It’s Fossil Friday! Take a bite out of the weekend with Dilophosaurus wetherilli, a carnivorous dinosaur that lived some 194 million years ago during the Early Jurassic. This dino acquired its name, which means “double-crested reptile,” from the paired crests on its skull. They were possibly used for display. This specimen was found in 1942 at the Kayenta Formation in Tuba City, Arizona. You can see it in the Museum’s Hall of Saurischian Dinosaurs!

Uncharismatic Fact of the Day
The Arabian wolf is one of the smallest subspecies of wolf; in addition to its diminutive size, one of their most unique features is that the pads of its middle two toes are partially fused together, giving them a distinctive paw print!
This species was once widespread throughout the Arabian Peninsula, but is now only found in Yemen, Oman, and Southern Palestine and Israel.

Concept art of Parabradysaurus for Carnivores Phantasmagoria, a mod by Dawn:
https://www.moddb.com/mods/carnivores-phantasmagoria
This ambient dinocephalian lives in arid regions, its vibrant and aggressive reds and yellows allow this beast to lay in the rocks without being seen by predators. Though only reaching the hips of a man, this short reptile can hold its ground against most of the small predators that do get into confrontations with it.
I finally got around to doing some portfolio work involving creature designs, this design was inspired by some of Steve Kirk's paleoart, more specifically the moschops below!

Kit Fox (Vulpes macrotis)
Family: Dog Family (Canidae)
IUCN Conservation Status: Least Concern
A small species of fox native to warm, arid regions of northern Mexico and the southwestern USA, the Kit Fox has independently developed many characteristics also seen in its more famous desert-dwelling relative, the Fennec Fox; its body is small and slender to reduce heat retention, its ears are large and flattened (though not as disproportionally massive as the ears of Fennec Foxes) to increase heat loss through its extremities, and its feet are wide to help distribute its weight while walking on uneven sandy ground, with a light covering of fur on its paw pads to prevent them from being burned when exposed to hot rocks or sand. Like many desert-dwelling mammals Kit Foxes spend much of the day underground (either in burrows of their own creation or in the abandoned burrows of other animals such as American Badgers) and emerge at night (or occasionally early on cool mornings) to search for food, feeding primarily on small rodents but also targeting hares, lizards, insects, carrion and small amounts of fruit. Adult Kit Foxes generally live in pairs, mating once a year and working together to protect and provide for their young, which are born in litters of 4-5 and remain in or near their parents' burrow for much of their early lives, accompanying their parents on foraging trips once around 4 months old and becoming independent 1-2 months later.

Uncharismatic Fact of the Day
Most foxes spend their lives on the ground, but Blanford's fox is a remarkable exception. First discovered in Palestine in 1983, Vulpes cana spends almost all its time climbing steep cliffs. To navigate this terrain, this small fox (only 38.5 to 80 cm (15.2 to 31.5 in) long) can leap over 3 m (9.8 ft) high!

Just kind of curious and wondered if we have or could there have been any dinosaurs that were omnivores? We have fossils of true canivores that ate meat and herbivores that ate plants but were there any dinos that were sort of like the bears and raccoons of their time that ate both meat and plants and/or just whatever they came across?
tons were!!! first off, very few things are hypercarnivores or hyperherbivores - most animals are in the spectrum, and supplement their diets (this is why dogs can have a little plant matter as a treat but cats are a no go - cats are complete predators, dogs just a smidge less so). We see lots of herbivores today eating carcasses, for example. So we can assume most dinosaurs were omnivorous in some capacity
then, beyond that, we have some dinosaurs that make the most sense as omnivores - the Oviraptorosaurs and Troodontids, for one, but also possibly others like Ornithomimosaurs and Pachycephalosaurs! We're always learning new things. there's a whole growing field where we determine diet from isotopes, and that may yet reveal more omnivores!

The small carnivorous plants bog is going really well! 🌿
It has changed a bit since I set it up. In the set-up video, I had put in Empetrum nigrum and Calluna vulgaris. Unfortunately, both plants died after a while and I can't say what caused this.
I then planted the bottom completely with moss and added Utricularia sandersonii and Utricularia livida.
But the Drosera capensis alba in particular, which can be seen at the front right, has grown really big. In the meantime, it has formed some offshoots and is even flowering! 🌼

The Cockatrice, an Insectivore that uses its bottom jaw to break down anthills and termite mounds.
it doesn't fly as much as its relatives, but it still makes use of its wings while escaping predators, apparently the planet's ancient civilizations saw them as a delicacy.

Carnivores Allosaurus doodles
Wanted to add some little details on my own to this bizzare dinosaur, I noticed most vintage Allosaurus depictions had a rather bumpy skin texture, surprised not many people have tried to make a mod addon inspired by that.
