it genuinely haunts me that joshua came to jeremy for help with noah and he TRIED. like he didn’t brush it off or say it wasn’t that serious he went to their mother and pleaded his case for months but she still just wouldn’t do anything. and then noah dies and his entire family blames him solely despite knowing that he Tried. he rlly tried :( he knew his brother was in trouble and he was battling his own demons but he tried :( he got saddled with noah the night it happened but what else could he have realistically done for him besides be clairvoyant and know that That was going to be the night :(

neil josten and jean moreau, the misplaced forever partners who need to be reassured that they are not to blame when shit hits the fan
on the one hand we have jeremy and xavier with jean:
"look at me. look at me, jean, because I need to know you're listening. if this was retaliatory, that's still on the people who chose to cross the line. it is not your fault. it never will be. maybe they did it to hurt you but that doesn't mean you're responsible. you had nothing to do with the erc's ruling. you're a victim as much as cat and laila are, so don't take on a burden that isn't yours. it won't help any of you. do you understand?"
"listen to him, jean, don't go down that road"
and on the other hand we have wymack with neil:
"I don't care what kevin thinks. if - and that's a big if - if riko really was behind it somehow, the blame is all on him. he chose to take out his petty rage on seth. he chose to cross the line. you didn't. you hear me? you didn't. don't ever blame yourself for seth's death. that is too dangerous a road to walk down. you keep your eyes on your own path and keep moving forward."
like this parallel genuinely made me lose my shit

This is what I mean when I say that Kevin and Thea deserve each other (derogatory).
If Riko had not broken his hand, Kevin would be an unrepentant, enthusiastic Raven apologist and supporter through and through, just like Thea is.
Kevin knew Jean was being raped and tortured. He knew every Raven was being beaten up for the smallest mistake.
But he didn't care. Because the Raven kept winning, and Kevin Day deserves to win.
He didn't care.
Until his ability to play was put at risk.
KevJean shippers don't give a fuck about Jean. If they did, they'd want to keep that pretentious asshole as far away from Jean as possible. They only care about Kevin and hate Thea. They sacrifice Jean so that everyone is happy (except Jean...)
You ship Jean with a man that still worships Evermore and shrugs off the reality of Jean being raped, dismisses it as just being "part of the Raven training" (despite the fact that it only applied to Jean)
Jean wants to see Kevin dead. And I can't blame him.
The Trojans, the floozies, Rhemann, Adi, Laila, Cat, Jab, Jeremy are the only chance Jean has to heal enough to live a fulfilling life.
He will never heal with Kevin.
Kevin represents only misery, and pain, and fear.
To the point that just seeing him face to face and being reminded of what had happened because of the fleeting attraction he felt for him at the Nest, is enough to send Jean into a panic.
Tumblr media
People who ship Jean with a man who knows of his abuse and to some level believes it is justified don't give a damn about Jean.
(yes, this post was inspired by some nasty KevJean shippers in my inbox, I said it once and I'll say it again: for every ask y'all send I will hate Kevin even more out of spite 🫰❤️‍🔥)

It is actually extremely sad that Jean made himself believe the other Ravens didn't know what was happening to him. (Which he obviously did because the alternative is too cruel for him to accept and keep his sanity)
A 16 year old "sleeping around" with college-aged students and almost certainly looking distressed about it
A backliner that's "so fragile" he has broken and fractured bones all the time
The moment he goes from being able to shower to having a panic attack over doing so
Being so covered in blood it ruined the pads in his gear by soaking into them
Whatever conversation took place that resulted in Zane agreeing to stand between Jean and Grayson and then Zane knowing enough to decide to hurt Jean by leaving the door unlocked for Grayson
His attempt to take his own life
----
It does seem that Jeremy, Cat, and Laila aren't buying that, at least. So maybe Jean will get to have a moment where he fully admits he hates the Ravens for how they treated him and actually blames them for either participating or being complicit in what happened to him.

I finally finished The Golden Raven over the weekend, and oh my god I still can’t stop thinking about it. And, something I’ve noticed not that many people have been talking about, at least that I’ve found, is Jeremy’s past. Like I’m all for Jerejean content or Laila and Cat or the secondhand Foxes moments or the Trojans in general. But, I can’t stop thinking about how fucked Jeremy’s life was. Like he was a closeted gay kid with absentee parents, then his mother remarried a probably openly homophobic and controlling man. To add another layer of hurt, his brother got addicted to pills only to give him the same addiction, plus the escalation to cocaine. And to top it all off, his little brother commits suicide on a night they were supposed to be spending together. Not only does Jeremy blame himself, but his entire family does too. They don’t even question why Jeremy was high out of his mind or where his addiction came from. So Bryson simply gets away with ruining Jeremy’s life. It honestly seems like Mathilda and his step-dad didn’t even care that much that Noah killed himself, just that Jeremy ruined their image. I’m sure that’s not the case but holy shit. Jeremy wasn’t at fault in anyway and yet all the blame was put on a grieving and traumatized 18/19 year old’s shoulders. Like it’s insane that he’s able to so consistently keep that bright personality going even after four years. Like is Bryson’s discretion and heterosexuality why he was left so free? Give me enough time once I graduate college in a few months and I might do a full deep dive tbh because I’m sure I’m missing some details. Anyways, I think Jean should get a second go at Bryson. I wanna see how many bones he can break. You know, as a little treat.

“i’m sorry that you think i’ll never understand” keeps me up at night. nora. what do you have planned for captain sunshine.
Tumblr media
(this is right after jeremy, laila, and cat find out that the ravens weren’t responsible for the “hazing” injuries, and then jeremy calls kevin and finds out that riko broke his hand).
what do you mean “i’m sorry you think i’ll never understand” ???
and there’s been so many other people on here that have gathered evidence for jeremy’s backstory that i have done it much better than i can, so i think it’s obvious that we all know jeremy has been through some sort of trauma/s. but hello, this line makes me wonder about specific abuse, and to what extent. given nora’s history with horrific ml backstory reveals, i don’t have hopes that jeremy’s backstory is something…”normal” i guess? in comparison to what other aftg characters have going on. i don’t think it will be just that jeremy’s family is fucked up and they blame him for something happening at the banquet.
there’s something more happening with the mysterious missing knox sibling and the estranged relationship between jeremy and his existing siblings. jean has experienced maliciously targeted physical, sexual, and mental abuse, and the specific language of the line, “i’m sorry that you think i’ll never understand,” reveals something (at least to me) in its obstruction, which is, “i would understand better than most.”
i don’t want to immediately jump to sexual abuse—but to me, this is where it’s leading to. i don’t want to automatically mirror jeremy’s character with andrew’s, but at this point, the extent of jean’s abuse has culminated into something undeniable.
and now i’m like ok nora what the Fuck do you have planned … i’m putting 2 and 2 together and idk if it equals 4 but i’m scared that jeremy’s missing sibling isn’t in the picture because there was some sort of abuse inflicted by them onto jeremy. and jeremy reported it, and maybe the sibling was arrested at the banquet, or there was a big fight at the banquet because of it. step-grandpa is a congressman, so it was either covered up or it’s a “shame” thing that jeremy “allowed” the abuse to happen… guys idk. then there’s the exy conflict in there somehow and how shameful it is that he still plays??? anywho

tgr predications because being unable to read that damn book is making me lose it:
public andreil kiss (maybe they win a game or smt idk)
the media begins speculating that kevin’s queer (is it cuz of how he interacts with andrew? neil? jean? take your pick, honestly)
neil and jeremy rivalry (jeremy has a genuine reason for distrusting neil and neil’s just petty/naturally suspicious of nice people)
renee debuts a new hair color
erik finally makes an irl appearance (again, maybe at a game or smt idk)
cat and renee interaction
renee randomly converts someone to christianity
andrew hates jean’s guts and jean can’t figure out why (he doesn’t think neil’s experience at the nest is relevant)
jean gets a therapy dog and he offers to let jeremy name their dorm’s new addition, but jeremy politely declines with the excuse that he’s “bad at naming dogs” (he actually wants to let jean have something truly his own)
jeremy backstory reveal??? please?? my best guess is that he had a brother who committed suicide and, for some unknown reason, jeremy’s family blames him (maybe he was too involved in exy to notice his brother struggling? OR maybe his brother was also an exy player and jeremy pushed him too much, which ultimately led to a change in jeremy’s approach to captaining)
jean gets a motorcycle and he goes on long rides with cat
jeremy and laila get a little red wagon and they take turns lugging each other around in it

Wip snip ✂️✂️✂️✂️✂️✂️✂️
Tagged by @300foxholecourtt . While I am not a kerejeaner I do love mean Dom Jean LMAO . 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️🙌 and will be seated 🪑🪑🪑
Also I’m so bad at picking snippets especially since this is chapter two & im moving at the pace of a SNAIL. but I will supply this:
Cat’s hands go to her face, brushing off tears, but Laila’s go right to cupping Jeremy’s. He lets her look her fill, and then watches, with a pit in his stomach, as her expression crumples.
“I’m okay,” Jeremy tells her, and reaches up to squeeze her wrist. “I’m alright.”
“You almost weren’t,” Laila says, and it comes out like a growl. Jeremy tries not to wince, but he does it anyway.
“You’re mad,” he says.
“Not at you,” Cat promises.
She says it so quickly, so earnestly, that Jeremy has no choice but to believe her. He wants to nod at her in thanks, but Laila’s still holding his face, so he presses onto the missing third member of their party.
“Jean?” He asks.
At this, Cat and Laila share a look. Jeremy wonders, in the heartbeat that it takes them to decide how to answer, if Jean is mad enough to not want to see him. Jeremy wouldn’t even blame him—couldn’t even blame him. Jean had been there the first time this happened, and Jeremy had made him promise that he would keep it to himself; Jeremy had promised him that he’d be okay. And then—

I think people in this fandom need to remember that the Foxes are an anomaly. the amount of trauma the fandom holds is not normal, same with the Foxes. it just seems normal to most fans because they're entire worldview is shrouded by it due to the spaces and people they surround themselves with.
that being said, it isnt fair to hold the trojans to the same candle we do the Foxes and other traumatised individuals. cat and laila (presumably) haven't gone through anything as significantly traumatic as the Foxes. same with jeremy, though his is slightly different.
you can't be all "boundaries, boundaries, boundaries!" about the girls and Jeremy because this is new. they don't know how to handle the situation with jean and blaming them for taking solace in one another is unfair. also, humans by nature are pushy. it makes sense that they might push jean once in a while because he NEEDS that push. if he won't see a therapist or talk about his feelings, he needs a slight push. it is healthy. they aren't committing murder, they're simply trying to help him in the only way they know how. it's a character flaw, it doesn't make them evil or horrible friends. jean needs people who will help him and push him out of his comfort zone (a literal cult mindset) so that he can learn to heal and separate himself from his trauma

time to rant about jean moreau cause he’s my favorite aftg character :)
it makes me so unbelievably sad to think about how he never got to be a child and live his life for himself. because before the Nest, he was Elodie’s only protector. a child protecting a child. and then—against his will—he was ripped away from her, left feeling like he failed her, even though he had no choice. he was thrown into a place where he barely knew the language and punished for it. punished for something he couldn’t control.
and then again—for being bi? punished.
for neil not staying? punished.
for not wanting to live? punished.
he was constantly being taught that no matter what he does or doesn’t do—even if it’s completely out of his control—he will be punished. even being taken from the Nest, while it was the best thing that could’ve happened for him (even though he didn’t want it), he was still punished.
for trying to heal.
finally, with the Trojans, he starts to feel safe. he’s healing. he’s trying. but the Ravens and the press come for him again. he gets punished again. and so do the people around him—Cat, Laila, Jeremy—for things the Ravens do. they got disqualified (the ravens), and so Jean, cat, laila, and jermey loose the only place that felt like home to them. and Jean genuinely thought he was going to lose the people he cared about too. because of course he thought they’d blame him. everyone always has.
and that’s why i think he and jeremy work so well together. because jeremy is so similar, even though he hides it better.
He’s punished by his own family just for being who he is. instead of helping him with his drug problem—they ignored it. Instead of listening to him beg them to help his brother—they ignored that too. And he was punished for it. they took exy away from him. they forced him into law school. they punished him for being gay by calling him slurs and literally convincing his boyfriend to leave him.
they’re both such severely hurt characters. and their healing looks so different.
jean is slowly, carefully starting to heal.
jeremy is still trapped.
and idk. that’s just why i love the new trilogy so much. It gives these characters so much depth and complexity—it lets them exist with all their pain and softness and fear.
and i just find jean especially so tragic, because he wants to heal. but he’s scared. so instead, he pushes everything down and endures it, because if it all crumbles again, at least he’ll be ready. at least it won’t catch him off guard.
and god, that just hurts so bad.

Sometimes I wish that Kevin or someone gave Jeremy more of a head’s up than the “he will submit” line. I understand the other side of the argument that he is still traumatized and what goes on in the Nest is unspeakable, so I do not blame him for being as vague as he was about it, and it makes sense to his character to be vague when it comes to the Nest.
I just wish there was slightly more to the going ons without it being so blantant. Maybe along the lines of “Hey. Just know that he might work different than the Trojans because the ravens have an entirely different culture, so just be prepared for differences. He might be aggressive at first but talk with him.” just so Jeremy and the coaches know beforehand how to approach Jean. Even Cat and Laila. That “he will submit” line was way too vague and so clearly taken out of context on Jeremy’s side, which understandably so because how else was he suppose to take that? He doesn’t know what the Raven culture is like unlike Kevin, Jean, Neil, and is as the reader.
I don’t blame Kevin though. I know even saying that line might have been hard for him and what I’m suggesting would be even harder to admit to Jeremy, a person he idolizes. This is more of a “I wish” moment to see how the Trojans would approach him with a bit more warning from Kevin.

Knowing that Jeremy feels responsible for his brother's suicide (and how could he not, since his whole horrible family blames him?), imagine what he must feel like any time Jean talks about wanting to die, even asking Jeremy if he'd be willing to kill him
Yes, anyone would be shocked by Jean's words, but Jeremy decided to be 100% responsible for the life of a total stranger. And that is not a normal reaction
My first instinct would be to reach out to a therapist or coach and entrust Jean to them directly, not because I don't want to deal with him, but because I'd be afraid of being too ill-equipped to handle the situation appropriately (especially as an individual with my own issues, as Jeremy is)
But Jeremy saw Jean and decided to take care of him, without even knowing him, without expecting anything in return*
He already let Noah die, he is never letting Jean go, ever
.
.
*jokes on him, because in return he gets Jean's undying loyalty and affection. We all talk about Jean learning to be loved by the Trojans, but wait until Jeremy discovers kind romantic love thanks to Jean
Cat and especially Laila play a huge role in showing him love, but Jeremy still refuses to be in a romantic relationship because he doesn't think he deserves it. Despite having incredible friends, he's still incredibly insecure when it comes to romantic affection
Jeremy, who only hooks up with people that don't care for him because he thinks that's all he deserves. Jeremy, who is worth less than a car. Jeremy, who is ashamed of his past. Jeremy, who is never good enough for his family.
Wait until he discovers he is not only enough, but everything.

jeremy knox
ik this fandom has long been split between "jeremy knox is so perfectly normal it's unnerving. sunshine incarnate." and "jeremy knox is secretely fucked up, could've made the fox lineup, his sunshine persona is a complete façade" but i could not be happier with the secret third option we got in canon
it's not a complete façade. jeremy knox cares deeply about other people and he would do almost anything to make them smile. obviously he puts on a show for the cameras, he's a fucking human being, but he genuinely believes in what he preaches.
he has some baggage. this might turn out to be even darker than what we've seen so far, but i highly doubt it would be something that could potentially qualify him for the fox lineup. his family isn't perfect, he'd rather live with his friends. his sister clearly blames him for "ruining their family" and he avoids his older brother and the police like the plague.
jeremy carries these secrets and keeps them from jean, but he clearly has been open about them with cat and laila. even coach rehmann sknows about his trouble with the police (whatever that is about..) and assumed jean knew about it too !* he's clearly not carrying whatever it is completely on his own
he's not the kind of sunshine character that buries everything and secretely kinda loathes everyone and feels trapped in this cage they've made for themselves, while simultaneously not being all rainbow and sunshine 100% of the time.
he's human.
*post-grayson when they go back to the house, rhemann says he would call the police for jean if he wanted and says "i'll send jeremy away first", thinking jean is saying no because of jeremy

Less than a week until The Golden Raven comes out so I’m doing my own predictions and will revisit this post when I finish it (and will ofc tag any spoilers)
1.) Idk why but I feel like Ichirou is going to hear about Neil’s hit on Grayson and try to intercept it. Not really to protect Neil or anything, but just to see what happens if Neil’s forced to do it himself. And I do think he would do it himself if it came down to it, and Jean would be an absolute wreck if he found out. This is solely based in headcanon land and the likelihood of this happening is extremely slim but I wanna put it out there just in case.
2.) Jeremy backstory my beloved. It’s going to happen in this book, but it’s definitely not going to get resolved and we’re going to be sad about it. Also if we’re following the og series timeframes, the fall banquet will happen towards the middle/end of the book, so we’re bound to get some lore about what happened there. I stand by my recovering addict theory so I personally think Jeremy may have had a nonlethal od or something of that nature at the fall banquet, but I think it’s just as likely that it’s something completely unrelated.
3.) Going off the theme of Jeremy trauma, I’m 99.9% sure we’ll get Bryson lore and figure out why Jeremy is so afraid of him. Now that Jean has acknowledged that the Trojans are his friends and he cares about them, there will be almost nothing holding him back from asking about the stuff with Jeremy’s family and I think he will be…not happy, but proud that he can be a support system for Jeremy after everything he’s already done for Jean.
4.) I do unfortunately believe the Knox’s and the Moriyama’s are linked. I don’t think Jeremy knows about it at all, but I feel like he’s going to invite Jean over at one point and Ichirou’s just going to be sitting in the living room with Jeremy’s (not) grandfather.
5.) BEGGING ON MY HANDS AND KNEES FOR MORE ANDREW CONTENT PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE-
6.) I don’t think the interview is going to go all that bad!!! I think it’s definitely going to be hard for both Kevin and Jean, but I don’t think it’s going to be a disaster for them either. Obviously people are going to use it to slander both the Trojans and the Foxes for the part they played in the Raven’s destruction, but I don’t think it’s going to be like a looming threat that colors the whole book yknow??? If anything I think it’s going to be what Jean and Kevin need to finally let go of the versions of each other that hurt them and allow them each to see how the other has grown. (and maybe they kiss once idk)
7.) I want a scene where the Trojan’s find out about Andrew and Neil. I want it so bad. In my head I feel like it would go like this:
Jeremy: Jean…I’m so sorry, but I just heard from Kevin that…Renee has a date for the fall banquet :(((
Jean: oh yeah she goes with the other goalkeeper every year, she told me.
Jeremy: ??? Jean you’re allowed to be upset about this ???
Jean: why would I be???
And just generally that vibe because Jean thinks it’s obvious but then remembers the Trojans have barely ever met the two of them.
8.) CAT AND LAILA LORE. SPECIFICALLY MORE LAILA LORE BECAUSE WE DON’T KNOW ENOUGH ABOUT HER. BUT ALSO CAT BC SHE’S THE LOVE OF MY LIFE. MY FAVORITE LESBIANS YOUR HONOR. (I also want my “Laila having one-sided beef with Andrew” headcanon to be real but realistically I don’t think that’ll happen)
9.) Lucas is going to blame Jean for Grayson’s death. And Jean is going to feel awful because he does in fact think it’s his fault and he never actually wanted to hurt Lucas. Also…Lucas transfer to the Ravens perhaps??? I think it’s just as likely that they’ll sort of make up but tbh I think it’s also possible that it just pushes Lucas farther onto the Raven’s side.
10.) I want an update on the Cody/Pat/Ananya situation. That’s not a prediction that’s a threat. If I don’t get one I’m rioting.
That’s it for now. Can’t promise I won’t update this later if I come up with something new but for now it be what it do.

The Golden Raven: Here Be Spoilers 11 (Once More With Feeling)(Chapter 23-24)
Let's dive right in!
Laila is apparently not built for the bike life, which is a shame but kinda funny.
Jean once again showing depthless compassion... 😐 I don't blame him, mind you lol. It's a shame that his being friends with anyone would have made their life even more dangerous than simply being a Raven.
Cat and Laila both have points - they should never have been sent back, and perhaps there was some way out of the Raven contract when things were clearly bad enough to warrant it, but at the same time those contracts had to be something else to literally steal these people away for five entire years, so there probably wasn't.
How many Ravens have to die? My personal number is 18, and I will not elaborate 😂
Jean's lack of legal savvy is 100% going to lead to these three reading all legal documents to him in future 🤣
Edgar Allan learning nothing by bringing back a former Raven captain. Hopefully his seven years with another team and life away from the Nest in general will give him a way to bridge what was the Raven way, and something more sustainable.
Also! That gives us a little more timeframe context for NCAA Exy. If Coer was the first captain then it definitely existed 12 years ago. It doesn't say how long he "dropped off the face of the planet" but assume 2-3 years for it to be obvious enough, and so we could say 15 years? Roughly half the time it existed at all iirc? Would love to get officially sanctioned timeframes but this'll do lol.
It's always so sad that as much as he wants to not care about his former teammates, he does. They don't care about him at all but it still matters to him that they're hurting, that they're dying. There is nothing he can do about it, but he cares.
Poor yo-yo, still a tangled mess.
Sergio you were doing so well and then you ruined it you bellend.
Honestly the "Johnny" thing is just lazy. Disrespectful, but fucking lazy. (By which I mean the characters lmao)
Poor Jean, you won't be a sub forever, I'm sure.
I love you William 😭
She's never going to trust you, Jeremy. You're just lucky she doesn't have cameras in the house to try and catch you out.
Jean's reaction to money is just how we all live now. He must be so pissed at current prices of everything 😂
Jean drifting towards blue because Jeremy likes it is adorable tbh.
Linger on that thought, you're allowed to!
Take it from someone who knows: people determined to get a dog will find a way to get a dog. And yes, they really will have an answer for everything.
The daffodils 😭
And how they affected Laila. Reminded that there's hope. That there will be more daffodils.
This gentle moment, heavy with grief, is somehow so beautiful.
DO NOT GROW BLACKBERRY BUSHES UNLESS YOU KNOW HOW TO CONTAIN THEM - sincerely, someone whose entire garden got overrun to the point of needing professional help.
Jean you folded on this dog thing SO FAST!
No, you're right, he needs to lie more often BUT I also think that he doesn't is how he gets away with it on occasion. Buuuut with a dog in the mix... I think he's gonna lie more 😂
I love that the girls have a healthy sex life.
"Beasts"... I mean... Not totally wrong lol.
Jean coming across the "babies and animals" voice and being over it immediately 🤣
A string of missed messages from a Fox and a Trojan means something has happened. But Jean is in his personal hell and isn't dealing with it XD
"Your parents threw you away, too" 😭 (That was also the exact moment they were going home with this one XD)
Rex. King. I don't usually like renaming pets, but I'm making an exception.
Turning away from the full sensory assault of a properly happy Jeremy.
He probably has never really been around dogs which makes it funnier 🤣
Jeremy just creeping on up, scaring the daylights out of him.
Honestly so freaking glad his Latin sucks and his immediate thought is dinosaur.
Never gonna hold him, huh?
Honestly having trouble reading and typing because fucking Audrey is making me cry over a fictional dog.
Jean is right to hate and mistrust everything about Jeremy's family.
He is going to go full dog dad, I just know it. "I don't want that thing" to constantly talking with it and doing things with it...
"Monsieur Bowwow" 🤣
Yeah, I'm in for Kevin swinging first. Jack is such a little cunt. Though if he said "Neil is the one that fought for you, I didn't want you" it might crush him just enough.
Renee 😂 And the fact it's Andrew that clocked Jeremy. His confirmed gaydar is a delight.
See! These rules aren't there any more!!
The lack of brainpower between Jeremy's ears when he does these things truly is something to behold.
The dog is definitely a Moreau and he'll prove to be a wonderful son. You and Jeremy are going to be wonderful parents.
The rules have changed, even for you, Jean my sweet. And it's a good thing 💝
Aaah! It's over again! I can't lie, I think there's a third round in me 😂
The last thing I want to say is this:
The choice of name has spurred theories I'm sure. All I have to say is that chess is part of Alice in Wonderland, and chess was a vital undercurrent in the original trilogy. The game was played, the king fell and the Queen rules. But the poem is nonsense, the entire book was only a dream - so now we have more questions.
After all, who is to say that Jean ever left the Monsters' dorm room alive to begin with?
