I can't help myself. I have to share. More Star Trek people today, plus Catherine Tate (who grabbed my badge and signed it bc the sutograph I got was for my sister and she though that was so sweet), and 3 of the 4 Hobbits (Frodo, Merry, and Pippin). Didn't get photos with all of them bc money, but they were all so nice and wonderful to talk to.

Most especially though was Michelle Hurd. I was so nervous and excited to meet her that I was literally shaking and she was never impatient as I rambled about how much I appreciate her work, on screen, yes (playing queer multiple times even when it could have been detrimental to her career) but also for all she did during the writers' strike and for all she does for women of color, women in general, the queer community, and combating the lies that orange cheeto guy and his cronies spread. She is an amazing woman and one of the kindest I have ever met at a con.

i'm thinking about when i saw pippin.

i'm thinking about how magical it felt, how easily i was swept into the show. thinking about how the audience for that show might as well be pippin. we are invited in, invited to waste an hour or two. they're all in our head, after all. we are invited to complete the finale. there is time to accept. do you?

you watch the leading player fall apart. slowly at first, in missed cues and wrong lines. then bigger. the show destroys itself before your eyes. you are pippin. you are still watching. does it feel wrong to watch? do you feel guilt, pity, something else? does it matter?

you watch pippin and catherine leave. you hope. your eyes drift to the leading player, still onstage, eerily silent. but everything is fine. this is a musical comedy. everything will be alright.

theo walks back onstage. the leading player looks up. your stomach sinks. you keep watching. you hear it. theo is singing corner of the sky. the notes of magic to do drift past you. the magic is returning, the stage resetting, the lights going back up. you look behind you. catherine and pippin are gone. they left. it's possible to leave. (how many pippins didn't?)

the leading player smiles. grips onto theo's shoulder, looks up at the audience, and grins. "see?" their smile seems to say. "we promised a good show. didn't we deliver?"

and didn't they? you enjoyed the show. you clap, and the cycle starts again. and you encourage it.

On June 20, 1974, the first Brazilian version of “Pippin” premiered at the Adolpho Bloch Theater in Rio, directed by Flávio Rangel, translated by Flávio Rangel and Paulo César Pinheiro; with set design by Gianni Ratto; costumes by Kalma Murtinho and Patrícia Zipprodt; and choreography by Gene Foot.

The show starred Marília Pêra (Leading Player), Marco Nanini (Pippin), Carlos Kroeber (Charlemagne), Tetê Medina (Fastrada), Maria Sampaio (Berthe) and Ariclê Perez (Catherine).

However, Marília discovered she was pregnant early in the season and had to leave the show, being replaced by Suely Franco.

Fun fact: Marília Pêra was the first woman to play the role of the Leading Player in the musical.

This is my busiest two weeks for this semester so my progress on my Tangled AU fic is kind of slow, so here's the start of a Henry family angst fic that I wrote out of rage on Princess Catherine (Middleton) getting ridiculed on a global scale while privately struggling with her cancer diagnosis. I mean it, I was so mad that when the announcement was made by the Prince and Princess of Wales at 6 am on a Saturday, I got up, half awake but full of anger at the world, and wrote the entire structure in 5 minutes

All five of them are in the music room, and Henry’s on edge. It’s not that it’s unusual for their family to spend time just sitting together. Aside from Philip who usually opts to return to his room and work on whatever he’s dealing with, he, Bea, Mum and Dad would spend weekend nights sitting in the music room: playing instruments while his parents waltz around the room, listening to Dad explain the movie’s he’s done or the new scripts he’s gotten, to just talk about any updates in their lives. It’s one of the very limited normalcies they have as a family. So the gathering isn’t what’s worrying him. No, it’s the fact that Philip was specifically called over to be here for this one, it’s the fact that he can tell there’s something, a secret that Mum and Dad have been keeping from them and it’s not a good one, it’s the fact that he can somehow tell Dad hasn’t been feeling well even if he brushes it off every time he asks about it. Henry has a guess on what’s happening, and God, he’s begging to be wrong.

Catherine’s famous speech from Wuthering Heights about her feelings for Heathcliff rings so many Samfro bells in my head that the whole thing might just as well be Sam talking to someone (maybe his Gaffer or Merry & Pippin or Rosie) about Frodo. It’s truly incredible.

Granted, Cathy & Heathcliff’s overall story is totally different from Sam & Frodo’s … one is about unhealthy psychotic obsession, the other is about genuine unconditional love …

But, both are about soulmates.

And taken by themselves outside of all other context, you can’t tell me that these couldn’t be Sam’s words about Frodo, albeit in a different dialect, of course:

(I’ll take out Heathcliff’s name and replace it with ‘Frodo’, for comparison’s sake.)

I can't help myself. I have to share. More Star Trek people today, plus Catherine Tate (who grabbed my badge and signed it bc the sutograph I got was for my sister and she though that was so sweet), and 3 of the 4 Hobbits (Frodo, Merry, and Pippin). Didn't get photos with all of them bc money, but they were all so nice and wonderful to talk to.

Most especially though was Michelle Hurd. I was so nervous and excited to meet her that I was literally shaking and she was never impatient as I rambled about how much I appreciate her work, on screen, yes (playing queer multiple times even when it could have been detrimental to her career) but also for all she did during the writers' strike and for all she does for women of color, women in general, the queer community, and combating the lies that orange cheeto guy and his cronies spread. She is an amazing woman and one of the kindest I have ever met at a con.
