Happy Feast Day Saint Toribio Romo Gonzalez 1900-1928 Feast Day: May 21 Patronage: Immigrants
Saint Toribio Romo Gonzalez was a young parish priest who died during the Cristero war and was canonized as one of the Martyrs of the Catholic Action Movement in Mexico. He courageously exercised his ministry even when religious persecution intensified and calmly accepted martyrdom, forgiving his persecutors. Today many people have encountered St. Toribio’s miraculous help while migrating on their journey. {website}

There’s a general consensus that above all else Jason should be homicidal again. However I think what’s also very important is that he should be a fucking hoot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There’s nothing not funny about this entire bit.
1. He couldn’t give less of a shit about explaining that he’s single-handedly trying to stop a terrorist attack. Obviously cause he’s short on time, but even if he had all the time in the world he would still be this indifferent towards explaining himself to cops.
2. This bomb is seconds away from exploding but he’s at most mildly annoyed like he’s in the office doing some menial task.
3. The perfectly timed British jokes.
4. Circling back to number 1 on the list. After he throws the bomb into the water he just dips. For all they know he’s the (weird) terrorist. (But as long as everyone’s okay he doesn’t care! The beauty of Jason Todd everybody).

This one is funny (but it’s also true)? Like yes … that is exactly what you are. (A sweet, kind-hearted goodboy learning how to effectively poison people, shoot guns, and blow shit up with all manner of explosives like a certified pro).

Red Hood: The Lost Days #4 (2010-)
“Not so irritating for an American” is a far more impressive title than “genius” if you ask me. Although I think Jason balances both pretty well.

WRT to Kai Winn I hold two opinions constantly at the same time
The writers and fans often position her in a way that is inconsistent with their world building by giving her more power than she actually has (thinking of her as a white catholic or evangelical when in universe she just isnt in that position) and the show occasionally gave her views that were "radical" in what felt like an attempt to delegitimize them
In 60 years Bajor will have its own version of the Hinduvta movement or some shit and they'll fucking love Kai Winn, because she has horrible politics and will have sown the seeds for their existence

The doctrine of discovery is one of the core concepts used to justify colonialism, especially of the settler variety. This is what the Canadian Museum of Human Rights says about it:
The Doctrine of Discovery is a legal and religious concept that has been used for centuries to justify Christian colonial conquest. It advanced the idea that European peoples, culture and religion were superior to all others.
The doctrine of discovery comes from a series of declarations from the pope in the 1400s that suggested christianity and christian cultures were superior to all other religions and cultures, and basically said that christian europeans had the right to invade and claim land and resources from non-christian people, and also had the right to subjugate and convert those populations. It's literally at the very core of colonial history and the myth of white supremacy and christian supremacy.
When the pope was visiting Indigenous communities in canada last summer, more than an apology for the catholic church's role in residential schools, what people were asking for was the overturning of the doctrine of discovery. An apology is meaningless as long as that doctrine stands.
Today, the vatican formally rejected the doctrine of discovery. It's a symbolic gesture, sure. But it's still a sign that things are changing. Space was held for Indigenous voices, and the vatican of all places listened to them.
Obviously, there's still work to be done, and colonization didn't just suddenly end because of this announcement, but this is still huge news, and it feels like we're a tiny step closer to Land Back.

For shits and giggles, I put OPLA on for my highly-critical-towards-odd-things mother to incite horror and confusion. Surprisingly, she actually enjoyed it thus far (we’re only an episode in).
But the most cursed thing she commented on was how Luffy, by way of eating an unfamiliar fruit, was “acting Adam-ish”. As in Adam of Adam & Eve and the Garden of Eden infamy.

@smallerthanzer0 reminded me of my love for Lie To Me as a teenager which is a good part of the reason why anytime I encounter the concept that lying will inevitably lead to a tangled web that spirals beyond your control and come back to bite you in the ass, I'm just like, lol. skill issue.

tunes talking about the same shit again etc etc but something i find really compelling about the 90s run, that you can feel sitting under the narrative even if Miguel the character (understandably) doesn't dig into it, is this awareness about the unsaid and deeply complicated relationship Miguel must have with physical retaliation given the fact he suffered a household with domestic violence, and he's a character terrified of becoming his father.
how he never fought back as a child because yes, he was a kid, but also he lived in the actively instilled fear that retaliation or rebellion would incur his father's abuse down upon Gabriel and Conchata.
how miguel doesn't strike his father as an adult because he thought he might accidentally kill him yes, and he didn't want an easy end for george o'hara, but just. the fact that miguel refuses to linger on any connection between his refusal to hit george, and the fact miguel's also so scared of becoming his father. he never connects those two concepts in his own introspection but given how deep that fear runs, i can't help but think on the connection between them.
vs again physical retaliation as spiderman but solely as a means to protect and defend. finally hitting back but it's against the oppressive forces that seek to grind you down to dust.

The priest at church today said the Holy Trinity is in us. He said he sees the creator God the Father in the creativity of people, Christ in the love of people, and the Holy Spirit in peoples faith, peace, and actions. He also said the unholy trinity which is me, myself, and I can get in the way of the Holy Trinity.
Lord, please work through us in all the ways you want to and don’t let us stop you

Went to the pro-life march yesterday, and I can’t believe I met TFP Student Action and befriended them! They were a strong force in the beginning of my conversion. And the march itself was really great!
