I think it's interesting how the cardassian government evolved as a concept in the star trek mythos from the wounded to way of the warrior

in one of the tng episodes (I think chain of command or possibly a later tng cardassian episode) Picard says that the military holds the most power over affairs on Cardassia

however its later stated in DS9, the most specific occurance I can think of is defiant, that while the detapa consul is supposed to have power over the central command and Obsidian order, the two operate independently with the consul having very little influence in the grand scheme of things

in s4 there has been a successful revolution on Cardassia prime subsequent to the fall of the Obsidian order in the gamma quadrant in s3, in return to Grace it is revealed in gul Dukat's rant subsequent to his conversation with the civilian government that they are in fact the detapa consul

I just think it's interesting how the pre s4 ds9 cardassian government changed from a military government with a civilian puppet to the worst kept secret in the alpha quadrant

City Spirits awaken.

So! City Spirts are basically God's sustained by the people in their Cities. Some are Gods born from the belief and people of a City, others are God's who Bind themselves to Cities to sustain themselves in periods of low worship.

Almost all Major Population Centers have some kind of City Spirit bound to them.

The Personification of Los Angeles who slept with Constantine was born from her City, but she was young and weak compared to other City Spirits.

Lady Gotham is an Ancient Spirit who holds immense Power, but purposefully bound herself to the new and growing city of Gotham so she could sleep for a few millenia without worrying about sustaining Worship. She has been asleep for Centuries.

Actually, most City Spirits are Asleep.

Millenia Ago, the most powerful Gods and Spirits of the Infinite Realms fled the Rule of Pariah Dark. They didn't agree with his ambitions to conquer the Living Realm, and didn't want to let him use their Power against the Living Realm either.

So they Bound themselves to newly forming Cities and put themselves into Deep Sleep to avoid his Control. They have been asleep for Millenia now, waiting for the day Pariah would be overthrown so they could return to the Infinite Realms safely.

Then they day came. A New King was Crowned.

And the Cities began to wake up.

tactical droid vs clone culture

I was thinking about how General Kalani is one of the only droids with an actual (non-serial number-related) name, and I looked up the super tactical droid wookiepedia page:

and huh! of the four known ST droids, three of them have obviously individual names, and given that their serials would be ST-something, Aut-0 is probably a name too!

(Aut-0's name also seems to demonstrate that he has some sort of sense of humor, and Kraken's paint is suspiciously kraken-looking.)

not only do they all have individual names, they also seem to have unique paint!

now, basic tactical droids do have some distinguishing symbols, but these tend to be simple central lines or logos - just enough to be distinguished.

since ST droids are pretty easily distinguishable from tactical droids (and there'd only really be one on the battlefield anyways), and none of their units have anything similar design-wise, we can conclude that the ST droids' paint is an individual choice.

I doubt Dooku would be busy painting and naming his tactical droids either, so they most likely named and painted each other and themselves...

...much like a certain other batch of beings-not-formally-recognized-as-sentient.

kinda don't like it when people say that before recording technology, people could only hear music when it was performed live and after that it was gone forever.... like okay sure. i understand. many people can't play instruments and wouldn't be able to listen to like a string quartet or something, but people can very much sing to and with each other and have been doing so since forever. i very much get what people mean when they say that, but i feel like maybe its conveniently forgetting folk music and people singing together for fun. they didn't even have to be professionals dude. humans just sing for fun. together. very often. since forever. idk.
