The onslaught of questions gives him pause because he isn't entirely sure whether he has the answer to all of those questions. He feels nervous suddenly, uncertain as he meets her eyes. Maybe he shouldn't have come at all. A flush of warmth crawls up the back of his neck as he lowered his eyes, floundering about in his mind fora response.

"Rand. My name is Rand." He offered as he, by the nature of his upbringing, stuck his hand out to give a respectful greeting. "It's a pleasure to meet you." He meant it seeing as he hadn't meant anyone else who would have helped him.

"I have never seen her." He answered after a brief moment, clearing his throat as though he were embarrassed of the fact. "I'm looking for my birth mother. The last time she was seen was when she was giving birth to me. I thought that she was dead and yet...I've heard rumors that she might still be alive."

"Oh?" Vi replies, when he says that he needs a bit of help. "Of course. Cait and I are private detectives. It's what we do, help people out." At least, that's their goal. Whether or not they always succeed is another matter. But they definitely try. Oh, they try.

"Who are you trying to find? What do they look like? Do you have an image of them, or can you describe them to me?" Vi asks, opening a notebook she finds to a blank page. She's preparing to write down any information that the other person can give her. "Where were they last seen? Do you suspect they were taken or are they simply lost?" It's easy enough to find someone who is lost, but if the person was taken they might be harder to find. Of course, that won't stop Vi and Cait from looking. They are nothing if not stubborn. And they believe in their own abilities, and will use every one of them to find this missing person. So there really is nothing for the other person to worry about.

Vi smiles kindly at the stranger, realizing that she hasn't even introduced herself, yet. "I'm Vi, by the way." She says with a chuckle. "And you are?" She hasn't seen the stranger around before. Perhaps the other person is new to the area. As Vi herself once had been. That only makes her feel for the other person even more. And hope that she and Cait are able to find whoever they're looking for.

“I have a message and a warning,” Vi eventually said, her voice even and strong. It helped that she actually believed in what she was about to say.  Vander shifted his body and expression at his daughter’s tone. Vi blinked and suddenly before her was not her father, but the Hound of the Underground. She refused to let that intimidate her. “Sounds serious,” he said, pulling out his pipe and lighting it.  Vi met his gaze, unwavering. “Blisters and bedrock serious.” Vander stared at Vi for several moments. Blisters and bedrock. A phrase her mother and Vander would say to each other that went back to their mining days. They used it only when what they were discussing was as serious as it could possibly be. It was a plea for trust, a cry for understanding, and warning to be honest. It was never, ever meant to be used lightly, then or now. To do so would break Vi and Vander’s trust in each other and stain their shared memories of her mother and his best friend.

After a drunken hook up the first week of the semester, the two keep crossing paths, both intentionally and not.
