The beautiful thing about Lost Ark, for me, is how vibrant the world is. From an island inspired by the Legend of Zelda Minish Cap and Pirates of the Carribean to a technocratic dystopia reminiscent of Final Fantasy. This game has it all, and it handles each and every instance with care.
My favorite so far is the martial arts tournament arc, which reminded me heavily of Jade Empire. From the folklore supernatural like the Yokai to the warring schools of competition. Throw in ambient setups like cherry blossoms, tea houses, and bamboo forests and it just feels so beautiful to play through.
Anyways I love this game.

Really enjoying Jungle Juice but there are some things about it that do irritate me:
Suchan is said to have compound eyes when no the fuck he don’t. He has visible pupils, which are for totally different eye structure! I’d probably sulk about this less if the compound eyes weren’t so important to both Suchan’s powerset and the visual traits of the dragonfly, and it would be so simple and would look fine to draw him with no (or even just green or white instead of black) pupils.
Changhun is called a “fire ant” when the disparate species carrying that name are called that because they have painful stings instead of using formic acid, which is his whole thing.
Gets even more confusing when there’s a reference to his “venom.” I’m pretty sure he’s not a stinging ant and this is just a translation error, because we see in his intro that he has pores on his hands that look like the pore that formicidae have on their abdomens specifically for spraying acid.
It acts like katydids being predatory is like, an obvious thing that’s broadly applicable to that family. That seems to be specific to saginae, and while it’s cool that this information narrows down what species Hyeseong is supposed to be… I felt like I had been dragged into the mirror world when the comic confidently stated that katydids are vicious predators.
They repeatedly show feed-trained hybrids that are based on bugs that aren’t predatory. Eating human meat is supposed to activate/reinforce their latent bug instincts, but that wouldn’t reasonably convert into hunting behavior when they’re the instincts of a bug that eats leaves or scavenges detritus.
Obviously I wish the characters had more visible bug traits, but Professor Ji and Daun are the most frustrating in this respect. I feel like Ji really should have something like the ant Predator, who has the features of his insect’s abdomen on his arm— it’s very clear that the bug traits do not have to appear on the corresponding body parts. It could even be hidden until the reveal! His arm is injured so much, just have it start out being bandaged. With Daun, it’s just super disappointing that, when we see other orbweavers in the background who have taur body plans, there’s an opportunity to have a bit more of a mix of humanoid and monstrous students in the main class that they just do not take.
