I didn't know this before but the error message gaster poem is actually split as three separate error messages; you'd have to piece them together yourself. The placements don't seem to have any connection to each other, either. The typer ID for the first two lines are 5, while the 'answer' part of the poem is 6! Supporting the idea that it's directed at Gaster even more!!!

My third point: I saw that you brought up the Tenna/Gaster parallels and i felt that it’d be crucial to also mention the Gerson/Gaster parallels. Really, a lot of what Gerson brings up can be *super* applicable to what Gaster is doing now.

Firstly, he talks about how in the Lord of Hammer books, the story only went up to ch.6 and how the author (himself) got swallowed up by the grandness and the pressure of the story. He also notes that he’s been waiting for someone to “pick up the pen” and write the next chapter…but no one ever did. This is relevant to Gaster as *he’s* trying to do just that. He’s trying to pick up the “pen” and create a NEW FUTURE for a narrative that already ended with Chapter 7. It’s also likely that he messed a bit with the Prophecy to make his “NEW FUTURE” easier to achieve but that’s getting into some deep speculation.

Secondly, Gerson notes that Dragon Blazers was based on Lord of the Hammer…which itself was based on the Prophecy. In his own words: “The book was already just an interpretation of something else. Stories can be retold. They can be changed... That's what I believe.” This isn’t *the* original iteration of DR, but this is Gaster’s take on the narrative and one that (i presume) he hopes will have a better ending with our help.

oh yes thank you for reminding me of this! it really is like gaster is trying to be his successor in a way. it's fascinating too because i remember when gerson is talking about all of this, you can see pages fluttering outside the window that look a lot like the scattered pages in the supply closet -- it seemingly (to me) suggests that someone might have literally used Lord of the Hammer as a type of seed for castle town.

also, i don't necessarily want to take this TOO literally, but that bit about dragon blazers during that interaction immediately made me think of tree man claiming that "ONCE UPON A TIME, THE WHOLE WORLD LOOKED JUST LIKE THIS." (referring to the NES styling of the island) -- almost evoking this idea that the original iteration of DR was more of this "dragon blazers" type RPG and it's only in this new iteration that it's become more of a high fidelity metamodernist thing. again i think that's probably best taken as sort of metaphorical more than anything else but it is interesting that DR is starting to more directly communicate this idea of iteration and "base games" and suggest that some previous instance of Prophesied Events did play out prior to gaster's meddling

i'm very open to the idea that gaster might have meddled with/"massaged" the prophecy -- i'm curious what you think he might have changed?
