WEBCOMIC DIRECTORY
Half the reason I created this tournament is so I could find new webcomics to read, and I know a bunch of you are following it for the same reason.
So: Here is a directory of every webcomic that was submitted!
Please note that this list is Very Long, so (1) I have not read most of these webcomics and can't vouch for their content, and (2) I have not tested any of these links, but I can fix any errors if you point them out.

I read 95 books this year. Here's some of what I enjoyed and what I didn't, in genre or arbitrary categories:
Fave SFF books
Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell (Susanna Clarke)
Spinning Silver (Naomi Novik)
All Systems Red (Martha Wells)
The Library at Mount Char (Scott Hawkins)
Mammoths at the gates (Nghi Vo)
Gideon the Ninth (Tamsyn Muir)
Amberlough (Lara Elena Donnelly)
Fab m/m romances
Seven Summer Nights (Harper Fox)
The Lodestar of Ys (Amy Rae Durreson)
The Scottish Boy (Alex de Campi)
Magician (KL Noone)
Heated Rivalry (Rachel Reid)
Also Role Model and The Long Game (Rachel Reid)
The Secret Lives of Country Gentlemen (KJ Charles)
The older ones
(recently published books can feel very samey after a while. The irony of these being old books but feeling like a breath of fresh air)
Tam Lin (Pamela Dean) (1991)
Swordspoint (Ellen Kushner) (1987)
Wise Children (Angela Carter) (1991)
Chronicle of a Death Foretold (Gabriel Garcia Marquez) (1981)
(more books under the cut)
Best atmosphere
The Likeness (Tana French)

Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation (MXTX)
The King of Attolia (Megan Whalen Turner)
Empress of Salt and Fortune (Nghi Vo)
The Ruin of a Rake (Cat Sebastian)
The unexpected delight
(it's a biography, and I never anticipated feeling so engrossed in one of them)
The invention of Angela Carter (Edmund Gordon)
The one that hurts so good
Checkmate (Dorothy Dunnett)
Didn't quite love the books but adored the characters
The Dreamer Trilogy by Maggie Stiefvater (my typical experience of her stories)
The meh
Bardugo's Nikolai duology
Schwab's Darker Shades of Magic
The dreadful and my only DNF
A Taste of Gold and Iron (Alexandra Rowland)
Most bitterly disappointing
The third installment of Hall's billionaire series How to Belong with a Billionaire.
Biggest book hangover
Seven Summer Nights and Heated Rivalry
Best book boyfriend
ILYA ROZANOV
Most bonkers book
The Library at Mount Char (Scott Hawkins)
The "not sure I liked it but it'll definitely stay with me"
Some Desperate Glory (Emily Tesh)
The writing craft book that actually offered a new insight
The Heroine's Journey (Gail Carriger)
Overall, a decent year. My goal of completing series I'd started in the past and hadn't finished meant I subjected myself to some less enjoyable books, but I also read some excellent romances and fantasy novels, and I really enjoyed reading some older books, a practice I plan to continue.

Recentish adventures in gay vampire movies:
THE VAMPIRE NEXT DOOR (2024): More properly a bisexual vampire movie (eventually, if you're patient), this is a dumb low-budget comedy about a 20-something dweeb, Cameron (Alex Matthews), who's persuaded to act as chauffeur/getaway driver for his hot new next-door neighbor Victoria (Jessica Ferguson) while she does some vampire murders around town. Meanwhile, Cameron is secretly in love with his hot blond bestie Diane (Bella Chadwick), for whom hot himbo Martin (Andrew Larkin) wants Cameron to do the Cyrano de Bergerac thing. An underwhelming throwback to the dopey (PG-rated) teen sex comedies of the '80s (with ONCE BITTEN an obvious comparison), the movie spends so much energy on the romcom stuff that it takes forever for the vampire stuff to come into focus, and, as in many bad '80s comedies, an awful lot of the plot hinges on Cameron being an "innocent" Peeping Tom. Sort of amiable despite having no real redeeming virtues, but it's weighed down by Alex Matthews, whose character is unsympathetic and whose head-lolling performance suggests that he's recently been hit with a tranquilizer dart.
BIT (2020): MEAN GIRLS meets THE LOST BOYS, featuring a teenage trans girl from Oregon, Laurel (Nicole Maines), who comes to L.A. to spend the summer with her brother (James Paxton) and falls in with a clique of gay vampire girls led by the sardonic Duke (Diana Hopper). Funny and stylish, it suffers from trying to cram at least five hours' worth of plot into 90-ish minutes of screen time. Many of the component pieces are interesting and fun, but as a whole, the movie feels jumbled and unresolved: Various subplots and secondary characters go nowhere; the other vampires (Zolee Griggs, Char Diaz, and Friday Chamberlain) get hardly any character development — Griggs' character Izzy is there mostly as Laurel's love interest, and Diaz and Chamberlain barely have any lines; and Laurel remains curiously underdeveloped, reducing her to a fairly generic teen movie protagonist. Maines is an appealing screen presence, but she can't compete with Diana Hopper, whose commandingly bitchy performance as Duke is the centerpiece of the movie. There's a lot to like about BIT, but it might have worked better as a TV series, giving the characters and story more room to breathe.
THERESA & ALLISON (2019): Extremely low-budget cinema verité horror comedy-drama about gay college girl Theresa (Arielle Hope), transformed into a vampire after a disastrous one-night stand, as she struggles to navigate her new vampiric existence while nursing a crush on a somewhat older vampire, Allison (Sarah Schoofs) — who is totally, definitely (not) broken up with her obnoxious boyfriend Tony (Charles D. Lincoln, who also wrote the script), who now won't leave Theresa alone. The production values are modest and the acting is uneven, but this is a much more cohesive movie than the other two, with far and away the most intelligent script and many inventive ideas (like the fact that New York City has social services for vampires, although like most urban social services, they're underfunded and totally inadequate). Its biggest strength is the way the story builds its vampire-related elements around familiar real-world gay girl travails, which is sometimes very funny as well as horrifying. The caveat is that this is still definitely a horror movie, and goes some quite dark places (requiring CWs for suicide and sexual violence, beyond the usual for vampire stories), with an ambiguous but rather harrowing ending.

Armies Scorched the Land | Alex Keller x m!reader
@satan-incarnate-666 asked: iM NOT DONE
“Will our deeds be remembered?” - alex keller x m!reader
no mcd please 🥹🥹🥹
summary: war spreads like disease, and as far as you and Alex are aware, there isn’t a cure for it.
tws: death mention, graphic depictions of war, swearing, smoking
support your fanfic writers by reblogging what you read & enjoy
Sitting on the wall, you were painfully aware of the decaying corpse before you; how armies had scorched the land so terribly that it still had great weeping wounds, and how the air was still dense with smog from the constant fighting. You swallowed thickly, too hot even with just a shirt and your trousers on, and you turned to Alex as you took the bottle of water from him, taking a harsh and long swig that made you cough; for the first time in a long time, in far too long, there was now silence. Yet the brave black-backed shrikes did not sing.
Otters would not return to the rivers, all the fish had died or had been caught by soldiers and eaten. Long-tailed marmots would not scurry across the now broken and desolate wasteland. Flowers would never grow again, the soil too infected with blood. War had spread like disease, and everything infected with it, had died. Once beautiful landscapes filled with life and wonder were now barren and scarred; scorched and charred. Armies had killed everything. Soldiers had left a clear path of destruction everywhere they had gone. Yet when facing death, they were all alike in the end.
It didn’t matter who was wrong or right. It didn’t matter if they were rich or poor. It didn’t matter who they were serving. Foe and friend buried together amongst the rubble and the shit. There was no good or bad, no higher or lower moral ground. Only boys and men who had perished for the sake of nothing; only soldiers who had lost their lives for the sake of politicians. The one thing that the politicians did not want was commonplace; if one soldier found another from an opposing side, he would offer him water to drink. Something to eat if there was anything. A coat when it was cold. Mercy. Humanity.
As much as they had tried to beat it out of soldiers during training, humanity would still prevail. When fighting a pointless and vile war, humanity was just about the only good thing to be found anywhere. A country on fire, countless and irreplaceable lives lost. You looked at Alex, and you sighed as you prepared yourself to ask the one question that nobody ever wanted you to ask; the one question that could destroy a soldier’s will to fight within less than a few seconds.
“What was it all for?”
Alex wished that he had an answer, that he somehow knew more than you and that he could simply shrug and reassure you that it was all worth it for some reason or another; but he had seen what the war had done, he had seen the bodies and the beautiful landscapes turned to corpses. He ran a hand through his sweat soaked hair, and he shook his head. He didn’t know. He would never know, he wasn’t even sure if he wanted to anymore; the war had spread like disease, and there had been no cure.
“I don’t know,” he sighed. “I don’t think it was for anything.”
You turned your attention back to the landscape, looking at how once proud and glorious trees, so filled with life in the summer that they would sing with the breeze, had become little more than sticks of charcoal; black and burned as if mourning the death of the landscape. Broken and battered, unable to sing anymore, unable to so much as hum with the breeze. Their once long and thick arms would no longer hold up bird nests or squirrels, and would no longer be the envied home of caterpillars. Chaos at the front had turned to a crowded graveyard of any and all life that could have been had.
You lit a cigarette, and passed the water back to Alex. “How unlucky of us.”
“Huh?”
“We’re alive,” you pointed out with a cynical scoff. “We have to carry the burden of seeing… this. Knowing that every sacrifice is in vain, and every price paid of a mile is simply lost money.”
He nodded slowly. “But at least we’re still alive.”
“For now,” you sighed, shaking your head. “It’d be kinder if we’d been killed… the things we did… those boys who died… will our deeds be remembered? Will theirs?”
“Don’t,” Alex sighed, shaking his head. “I might love you, but if you keep talking like that, I’ll throw you off this wall.”
You dared to smile as you playfully shoved him. “You know I’d be happy if you did - means I won’t have to keep going through this bullshit.”
His tongue darted out to wet his lips, and he swallowed thickly as he put the water bottle aside for a moment. “You shouldn’t talk like that, no one knows how pointless and stupid this war is more than us, but please… don’t talk like that.”
You shook your head as you huffed. “Alex, you know me well, but…”
“But I also know that once your head’s in something it doesn’t come out of it,” he sighed, moving a little closer and daring to put his arm around you. “I know you don’t wanna fight anymore, I don’t either, but… we have to keep going, how else are we gonna make it home?”
“In body bags.”
“I mean alive,” he growled, shaking his head.
“I’m not much good for soldiering anymore,” you pointed out, swallowing thickly as you leaned into his side, your arm around his waist.
Alex shrugged. “You’re always good for me, though… c’mon, we should find the others, anyway, before they start sending out dogs to sniff us out.”
Reluctantly, you stood, but you didn’t let him go as you fell into step beside him; both jaded when it came to the war, neither of you realised that it had infected you, too. You didn’t want to continue fighting, you didn’t want to see more corpses on the battlefield, more scorched earth, more charred bodies of trees and flowers. You didn’t want to see more warfare, more of the country set ablaze by soldiers.

Alright Gravity Falls fandom, we need to talk.
MASSIVE tw for (not always particularly kind) fictional depictions of mental illness, psychosis and hallucinations. General unreality tw, also tw for heavy/realistic gore. This post goes into possible GF crossover/meta content within a fairly graphic live-action tv show.
I’m sure everyone has seen Jason Ritter’s recent monthlong, Book Of Bill -fueled twt roleplay stint where he acted, loudly, as though he was possessed by Bill Cipher.
Tumblr media
One problem: I already knew it was Jason Ritter that was possessed, NOT Alex Hirsch… since last fall. And I think y’all need to know why, because… well, you’ll see.
(Disclaimer: I have not seen 99.9% of Gravity Falls, and have never been in the fandom. I have only watched/read the necessary material to make this post.)
The relevant episode here is “Sock Opera”. First of all, this episode establishes that may have been another viable vessel for Bill left behind after the series finale, albeit a charred and torn one.
youtube
Puppet Dipper.
Why the fuck does this matter? Well, last fall (premiering on the night of the Harvest Moon no less), edgy meme fodder superhero show The Boys released a spinoff, Gen V, focusing on superheroes in college. One character, named Sam Riordan (don’t get me started on the Riordan thing. His brother’s name was Luke), suffers from vivid hallucinations, and that’s where things get really strange.
Final tw for live-action depiction of psychosis/hallucinations
youtube
So… yeah. Jason Ritter, on The Boys*, playing HIMSELF, playing a deranged puppet show host who appears in a boy’s mind to convince him to go on murder sprees.
*the puppets and larger in-universe puppet tv show associated with Jason Ritter’s character have since appeared in the mainstream The Boys universe, so it can be concluded that Jason Ritter exists there as well.
Oh, and when Sam does give into Jason Ritter’s influence (wtf am I even writing rn) this happens:
Realistic gore warning, especially at the end of the clip. Seriously.
youtube
THATS. CONCERNING
Making all this even weirder, this entire show predates the Book Of Bill’s announcement by two whole months, and Jason Ritter’s recent Hot Triangle Summer by almost nine months.
It also predates Matpat’s ICONIC penultimate theory video by seven months. In that video, Matpat (jokingly, mostly) lays out a “final theory” that Bill
1) Survived (confirmed by Book of Bill)
2) is looking for a way into “our” dimension (also confirmed)
3) has found a new human puppet in…. Alex Hirsch. Now, that’s where I don’t agree. Due to the above clips, I always assumed that if Bill was hiding among the GF crew, it was in Jason’s head.
Also in this video, Matpat attempts to explain the Bill Cipher Zodiac thing (??? as I said I don’t actually watch this show)
Tumblr media
…this thing. Matpat attempted to explain That Thing by linking each symbol to a project Alex has since worked on, saying that together, these easter eggs would spell out “the way to defeat Bill for good”. However, there is one symbol that Matpat couldn’t figure out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The “llama”. Except it’s not a llama. It’s an alpaca.
Tumblr media
A seemingly (ie, hopefully) sentient alpaca named Sloane, who just happens to be one of the most baffling, non-sequitor gags in Gen V.
So, this is as bizarre as it gets, right? All this goes down, Book of Bill comes out, Jason has his Bill roleplay month and we’re all done, can shut the proverbial and literal book on this specific vein of Cipher shenanigans. …Right?
Tumblr media
fUCK NO ITS NOT OVER.
On June 4th, 2024, Gen V’s official twt and insta pages announced their newest character, Cipher, with the show’s second season being confirmed for 2025 in a post dated July 26th.
That’s all the updates on this situation for now. A quick reality check to finish up: Obviously Bill Cipher isn’t real and these writers, actors etc aren’t actually possessed. However, I would take Matpat’s own thoughts one: Alex Hirsch absolutely being the type of person to build this bonkers metanarrative, and add that this is far from the only absolute gut punch of a late-2000s-fandom-specific easter egg to be found in Gen V. Other examples include the characters of Luke Riordan, Annabeth (yes seriously), and ofc the tragic/antihero psychic girl with mind control abilities whose eyes turn red with blood when she overuses her powers, and who loses her hand in a climactic season-ending battle…. If You Know, You Know. TLDR someone in Gen V’s writers’ room is both young enough, savvy enough and unhinged(complimentary) enough to 10000% do this on purpose.
Anyway yeah. Just coming over from The Boys fandom to let yall know that Bill has already made the jump to 3d, via puppets of all things. Hope this was helpful or just vaguely ominous.

Alex Miller Delivers Gritty, Guitar-Driven Rocker, “When God Made The South”
Tumblr media
American Idol alum Alex Miller’s fans have been eagerly awaiting new music, and he delivers with “When God Made The South.” An anthemic, guitar-driven ode to the glories of Southern living, the track is a great send off to summer. “WGMTS” is as gritty as a gravel road, as raw as moonshine and as slick as goose … well, you know. It’s a bit outside of what most might consider Miller’s “traditional Country” lane, but the move was intentional and offers a glimpse at another side of this talented Kentucky-born vocalist. The track is available for pre-save now. “Lyrically it’s just Country as dirt, but we rocked it pretty hard. I wanted it to sound like something between George Strait and KISS.” – Alex Miller “I really took the Idol judges’ advice to heart,” Alex admits. “I get that I have to challenge myself and keep growing to keep going in this business. This song was perfect for me. It screams ‘hit’ and the minute I heard it I knew we had to cut it. The lyrics are straight on Country. If you just read them, you’d never know this single was so edgy, but Jerry’s production takes things in a whole different direction – and I think it is just awesome.” “I really struggle to think of a young artist as self-assured of his style and brand as Alex Miller. This single gives a nod to modern Country radio without sacrificing identity.” – Billy Dukes, Taste of Country “A trailer load of grits ain’t got nothin’ on Alex’s latest.” – Duncan Warwick, Country Music People  “Alex shows off his jammin’ side with utmost perfection!” – Preshias Harris, Nashville Music Line “Best of all possible worlds – the past, present and future of Country – all wrapped up in one song.” – Char Richards, The Life Box Media Channel Produced by award-winning songwriter and industry veteran Jerry Salley for Billy Jam Records, “When God Made The South” is the first release from Miller’s second and upcoming album for the label. His debut CD, MILLER TIME, delivered three well-received singles: “I’m Over You, So Get Over Me,” “Don’t Let The Barn Door Hit Ya” and “Through With You” (which took Alex to the Top 35 of the Billboard Indicator Chart, and reached #2 on THE COUNTRY NETWORK with its companion music video). “We’ve been on a real journey together for the last 18 months,” says Salley of his relationship with Alex. “We’ve learned so much about each other on a musical – and personal level. What stands out the most to me is that he loves all kinds of music. As Country as Alex is, he can perform any type of music that moves him. He is not one dimensional. It is a blast to hear this kid stretch a bit outside of his natural zone and try something new. He is so young and can go so far, it should be fun for him.” Miller’s had a blast to date; he loves the road and the energy of the crowds and this year he has shared the stage with Brooks & Dunn (Iowa State Fair), Jamey Johnson (Wisconsin State Fair), Generation Radio (Ohio State Fair), Niko Moon (Kentucky State Fair) and King Calaway (Oklahoma State Fair). Additionally, he’s headlined at the New York State Fair, opened shows for Diamond Rio and Sawyer Brown, and debuted at the popular Wild Rose Casinos in Iowa. Fans can keep up with Alex on his website, TikTok, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. Read the full article

Who is most likely to have their heartbroken? Who is most likely to comfort someone? And who is most likely to do the heartbreaking?
Oh goodie. This is the kind of question I love contemplating when it comes to the righteous and divine.
Anna Marie really does give off that charming Southern mother energy, doesn’t she? If you got your heart all trampled over, she’d be there with some form of pie piecing it back together again – but the opposite might be true when it comes to Mr. LeBeau. Every time he looks at her it seems like his chest is cracking right in two. Talk about complications. Barry Allen and Steve Rogers seem to have developed quite the friendship, and they’re both nice guys. If I’m predicting, and I am, I’d say Barry will end up with a very wet shoulder when Agent 13 gets her way. Poor Cap doesn’t know what’s about to hit him.
I’d say Sandsmark and Kent are due for a cliff dive any time soon, but they’ve already hit the rocks all on their lonesome. Hope that misplaced anger won’t get anyone hurt, though I do have popcorn on hand just in case. Speaking of misplaced anger … let’s hope Alex Summers doesn’t get Magneto’s little girl all riled up. We know what happens when metallokinetics get testy in love – and damn, if Oliver Queen plays his usual part, I’ll be getting screamed out of every weapons deal for the next six months before I even get my hand on a gun. Black Canary is one woman even I would avoid pissing off.

Ship Song Tag Game
Thank you for the tag @the-void-writes :)
Rules: Tag the song you associate most with your ship.
Skai and Mike✨
Dancing With Your Ghost, Sasha Alex Sloan
Yelling at the sky
Screaming at the world
Baby, why'd you go away?
I'm still your girl
Holding on too tight
Head up in the clouds
Heaven only knows
Where you are now
How do I love
How do I love again?
How do I trust
How do I trust again?
I stay up all night
Tell myself I'm allright
Baby, you're just harder to see than most
I put the record on
Wait 'til I hear our song
Every night I'm dancing with your ghost
Enchanted, Taylor Swift
There I was again tonight
Forcing laughter, faking smiles
Same old tired, lonely place
Walls of insincerity, shifting eyes and vacancy
Vanished when I saw your face
All I can say is, it was enchanting to meet you
Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God), Kate Bush
And if I only could
I'd make a deal with God
And I'd get him to swap our places
Be running up that road
Be running up that hill
Be running up that building
If You Need Me, Julia Michaels
If you need me, I'll be right there
When you're happy and when you're scared
I can still be your shoulder
I'll be by your side even if I'm not next to you, to you
Finn and Erica🌙
Tornado Warnings, Sabrina Carpenter
We were never in the park
Talking on a seesaw, teetering with our feelings in the dark
Ignoring tornado warnings
He didn't hold me in his arms
We didn't stumble over the pages of our relationship arc
Ignoring tornado warnings
Don't understand how quickly we get
Right back in our rhytm without missing a step
And logically, the last thing I should have on my mind
But I want you there sometimes
I guess maybe that's why
I'm lying to my therapist
I keep saying things like
"I never saw him and we never kissed"
Now I think, somehow, in my mind
If I coud convince him if he doens't see it at all
Then maybe it doesn't exist
I think he's onto me every time I say
"I'm over that son of a bitch"
betty, Taylor Swift
The worst thing that I ever did
Was what I did to you
But if I just showed up at your party
Would you have me?
Would you want me?
Would you tell me to go fuck myself?
Or lead me to the garden?
In the garden would you trust me
If I told you it was just a summer thing
I'm tagging: @aloeverawrites, @char-writes @bardic-tales and anyone else who wants to do this (no pressure of course :))

Unrecorded Histories
Eret is a historian. The server changes so fast that events get forgotten in less than two months sometimes, so trying to preserve it was crucial. Historians are few and far between nowadays, griefing and abandonment and time decaying all documents.
They have only known one other, but he is highly specialized, knowing more about the wastelands of 2B2T than any has cared to know in decades, as the warzone was under constant change.
Recording history is hard on many servers, but it feels that the SMP is harder to record than most. Few people remember more than a decade back, and most information is lost faster than that with the amount of times old builds have been griefed. Eret has been around a long time, and they are still learning new things.
It’s ironic that the one dedicated to preserving history cannot remember their own.
They remember a city of four, they remember white eyes. They remember the smell of spruce wood, coal dust and ozone. They remember the squelch of netherrack, redstone particles, gold. They have always hidden their eyes. They didn’t use to hide their eyes. Conflicting accounts. They remember thunderstorms.
They remember being loved, they remember dancing. They remember singing, and spinning, and laughing. They do not remember more from before the SMP.
They have no problem remembering the smp, the horrors, the hurt. They have no problem remembering the torment. They do not remember the life they led before.
They sit upon the pedestal in their castle, staring as the redstone particles dance. They and Foolish have been searching for weeks, to no avail. They don’t remember. The netherrack is warm beneath them, and it pulses every once in a while. They don’t remember. They don’t even know what they are.
Their glasses sit in front of them. They stare at their reflection, blank white eyes staring back at them. Nobody reacts well to their eyes, only Foolish. Decay creeps up their fingers again, the withering lingering as their hands, their cheekbones, their chest, burn. They have never died to a wither, but they have the lingering effects of one who’s withered a thousand times over. Their joints creak and they massage their hands.
They don’t even know what they are. A hybrid, certainly, but they don’t know what their other half is.
“Okay, now he’s just Herobrine,” echoes through their head, Philza’s first reaction upon seeing their eyes. They can’t shake that name.
They shove their glasses on their face with shaky hands, gloves hiding their ashen fingertips, and clip their cape on, gold clasp gleaming with the crest of their kingdom, a kingdom near dissolved. Their crown sits unworn. They don’t need it where they’re going.
“Eret! Old pal! What brings you to my temple?” Foolish drops the sandstone he was moving, turning to face them, rows of teeth betraying nothing but excitement, emerald eyes shining. The gold beacon on his pyramid spins, and Eret takes a deep breath.
“Hey Foolish.” Foolish’s face falls, and he shrinks down so they’re the same height,
“The withering bothering you again?” Eret nods. There was no point in denying it, the ash was creeping out from under their glasses. They massage their hands again, ignoring the burning in the middle of their chest, the pain where their glasses press on the withering skin, but that wasn’t why they’re here.
“That’s not why I’m here. I just-.” They flinch as another bolt of pain shoots through them, but this time it doesn’t fade. Their face burns and itches and screams in agony, and when it pulses again, they bite their tongue so hard it bleeds, the taste of iron filling their mouth. They’re blind with pain. Their eyes burn, their face burns, their hands burn. They try and speak and they start to cough, each cough sending more pain shooting through their body.
They are sitting down when they can think again. They don’t know when that happened. They can see again shortly after, unimpeded by sunglasses. Foolish is crouched in front of them.
“Old pal, that isn’t phantom pain! That’s active withering! Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Withering- usually isn’t that bad.”
“Withering- Withering has a lot of long term consequences! In most mortals, repeated withering can cause cataracts, loss of joint function, temporary paralysis, night terrors, insomnia- Eret, how many withers have you fought recently?”
“I don’t remember- twelve? Maybe? Twelve I’ve used for beacons.” Foolish’s jaw goes slack, and another, smaller, spasm of pain shoots through them.
“Have you properly- of course you haven’t. Foolish, foolish, of course they were gonna be rediscovered-”
“What are you talking about?” Eret looks up at him, trying to climb to their feet on shaking legs. Foolish offers them a hand and they take it, leaning on him.
“Remember when I mentioned the wither cult? We tried to stop it from happening again, destroyed all information we could get our hands on. We were young and stupid, and of course it’d be rediscovered in this area. Lets see if I have the stuff to take care of this-” Foolish’s hand hovers just over Eret’s ashy cheek, just under their eyes- “You just stay here, I have to look for my supplies.” Foolish helps them to sit on the tail of his snake statue, and starts to dig through his chests, muttering quietly.
“There’s not much I can do to keep it away until the withering retreats, but this should make it hurt less, and send it away faster.” Foolish pulls out a tube of what looks like homemade burn cream, but darker, and wipes it over their face, letting them massage it into their hands. “Is there any other decay I should know about?”
Eret nods, dropping their cape and gesturing towards their back. Foolish hisses.
“How long?”
“I don’t remember.”
“Drink this.” He hands them an instant health potion, and then a glass of milk. “Can I help you with this?”
“Yeah.”
“Wow, you really outdid yourself old pal. I thought you might’ve learned your lesson, but you really haven’t changed that much.”
Eret smiles, and Foolish stands up and steps back, handing them back their cape. “I have another potion after this, but until the decay decreases, I don’t think there’s much more we can do. So let’s get to the bottom of this memory loss then.”

Herobrine is a god. He is a god with empty eyes. He is a god who floats. He is a god who builds. He is a god of fear. He is older than the nether. He saw wither skeletons with their flesh still tied to their charred bones. He saw the river that flowed through the soulsand valleys. He saw the nether in its prime. He is older than Prime. He is older than XD.
He strips trees of their leaves, leaving them twisting, skeletal husks in the dead of summer. He is a mischievous god, a vindictive god, an evil god, a god of chaos. He saw the monuments when they still saw the sun, unflooded and unguarded, still worshipped at. He saw the temples worshipped at, he saw the mine shafts dug. He saw the fortresses built, the strongholds the last ditch effort to avoid the devastation.
He is older than the end.
He is old, and he got bored. And boredom makes gods antsy, makes them stressed, makes them bored. Bored gods are dangerous gods. And Herobrine had been bored for centuries. So it was to be expected that upon his first contact with another being, he caused mischief. He was a bit vindictive, perhaps.
But Steve grew used to him, and Alex grew exasperated, and he grew fond of the adventurers. He couldn’t scare them any longer, and eventually they grew fond of him as well.
Eventually, in their travels, they set up a base. And he built. Alex and Steve would hunt, farm, explore, mine, but he would build. He built cities, villages. And sometimes, sometimes he would strip forests of their leaves, but only if he was extremely, extremely bored.
Finding a child in the nether was the strangest event in a few centuries, but that didn’t say much. Finding a godling was.
He named it Eret. Alex was confused, Steve was adoring, Herobrine would die for them.
Eret grew slowly, as godlings tend to do. They were smart, and fast, and at some point they set out, exploring new areas of the world, and they returned, a totem of death in tow. Eret and Foolish, as he had been named, were close. They were ever so close, and ever so chaotic. Herobrine laughed, when the angel of Death visited to tell him that his kid was interfering with the Blood God’s business.
Alex was less amused. Steve found the whole thing rather endearing.
Eret was home for a while, telling them about a time traveller they met, when they were summoned. They were there, and then they were not, and he had no idea where they went. Steve said they’d be fine, Alex sent out letters to everyone they could think of, and Herobrine sent a letter to Foolish.
Foolish sent him back a letter, saying they were fine, saying they were alive, in a land of XD’s making, a land where he had no power. He didn’t know it would affect their memory.
--
Eret shakes their head, the sand hot against their skin, in shock.
“I- I don’t remember. I’m so sorry, Foolish.”
“You will. In time, you will, I promise. We will figure this out together, old pal, on my word, I will help you. And if you don’t remember, we’ll make new ones. Now,” Foolish slides a disc into his jukebox and bows to them, extending one hand. “Let’s start here. May I have this dance?”

Alex Summers is back in town! And it looks like he's going on a date with an old flame?
If by ‘back in town’ you mean ‘unfairly released from prison,’ I suppose. Why is it that ‘heroes’ can get out of jail for batting their eyes while my people are trapped behind bars for life? It’s discriminatory if you ask me.
As for the younger Summers and his relationship status, it’s just as doomed to fail as his brother’s. Ms. Dane has already slipped towards the direction of her father, and while that’s a much more interesting line of thinking than anything Xavier spouts, it won’t end well. If he’s lucky, they’ll end up in adjourning cells in the Raft. If he’s not, then...
Well, the X-Men have plenty of open funeral plots, I’m sure.
