Why I was furious about the Buck and Lucy kiss, but Eddie's weird Vertigo-esque cheating storyline with Kim makes sense and, while upsetting to see, doesn't fill me with rage.

It comes down to intent. After Lucy and Buck kissed KR/AK talked about how over the rest of the season we would see them poking/flirting with eachother and "build tension." They marketed as something fun and sexy we were supposed to enjoy. THAT was disgusting. It was done for sex appeal/drama and to eventually break up the boringass disaster that was bucktaylor, which is probably why KR was so sure the storyline would be a big hit and we'd enjoy watching Buck be slowly tempted away from Tkelly all season by the sexy allure of someone more "exciting." It never occurred to her that we actually care how women are treated in relationships whether we like them or not, full stop.

In contrast to the presentation of that (thankfully discarded) "isn't this fun and sexy?" storyline, Eddie's cheating plot is being presented as a genuinely troubling mental health issue, not as some soapy/sexy romp. It's weird and uncomfortable. It's supposed to be weird and uncomfortable. But it fits in with Eddie's larger story arc(s) of unresolved trauma, idealizing what he had with Shannon and the future he imagined, and guilt over what he sees as his failure to provide Christopher with a "mother figure." This storyline isn't trying to tell us that him cheating is sexy or excusable. It's troubling, and his choices are setting him on a crash-course path to finally confront his issues.

In other words KR's creative choices were cheap and unintelligent, whereas Tim's creative choices were nuanced and carefully placed.

one little situation I'd love to see would be nothing really happening between Buck & Eddie through the bachelor party sequence, sure handsy as what we've seen in promos, but that can be platonic affection.

BUT after the wedding, Buck is in bed going through the camera roll on his phone from the night before. random blurry photos, videos of karaoke, towards the end they're doing little video shout outs to Maddie and Chimney.

the night goes later and later until it's only Buck and Eddie left. at the end of a recording, Buck says he has to go to the bathroom & hands Eddie the phone. they're both drunk as all get out, so Eddie says something to the bride and groom, but once Buck shuts the door Eddie then hits the stop and start button, starting a new video.

Buck swipes to the next one.

"Buck, this one is for you, you handsome man. you are my best friend, my partner in crime, and I'm so proud of you for coming out. I love you man."

and Eddie keeps rambling, singing praises, referencing key events in their friendship, how much Christopher loves him, and then says way too casually, "seriously Buck, I'm so in love with you."

then Eddie's face drops, because he said not just I love you in a friend way but I'm so in love with you. committed. romantic.

"gotta delete that one," Eddie says looking obviously flustered.

But then Buck re-enters the room, yelling in jubilation "Eddieeeeeeee!". Buck slams down next to him on the hotel couch, his body weight causing Eddie to shift against him, and Eddie has the faintest smile, as if just their shoulders brushing causes him to blush.

Eddie hits the end record button, and the video stops. he forgot to delete it.

and then there is Buck, just staring at his phone, what the fuck? was that some drunken pointless rant, or did his best friend just admit he's in love with him?

Tommy steps into the room from the bathroom, shirtless looking sexy as hell, but Buck's guts twist. not from the beautiful man in front of him though, but being told he's loved by someone who he never knew could love him like that.

they were so evil for cutting this. this man has not had a single moment of true peace from the first episode. he's never ever taken seriously by his siblings the whole show. and the one scene where he finally gets himself help, and is fully supported by his loved ones and they TOOK IT FROM USSS!

Look at the hope in his eyes for the first time in his life!! he has a support system that loves him and he has hopes of a future where he can love himself!!! this is character development and a satisfying arc!

like they knew they were gonna take it all away from him anyway why couldn't they at least give him this.

“Do you love Eddie?”

“Of course I love Eddie.” Buck huffs. It’s the most obvious thing in the world. Eddie and Christopher are his world. The only thing is… “I’m just not sure if I’m in love with him.” 

“Then why the hell did you cheat?” she asks, exasperated, and so done with Buck. If Buck was her, he’d just kick himself out, to be honest. “You and Eddie clearly have something, and you felt enough for him to cheat on your girlfriend. Don’t kid yourself that you can just go on after this like nothing happened, with either of them. The best thing you can do now is to come clean to Taylor, and probably break up.” 

“Well, you cheated too, and you and Karen figured it out.” he blurts out, and immediately regrets it when Hen’s eyes darken dangerously. Okay, this is when he’d kick himself out. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean-”

“No offense,” Hen says slowly, quietly, through clenched teeth, tone icy, and it’s almost worse than if she’d yell at him, “but you and Taylor are nowhere near me and Karen. You don’t even love her, and clearly you don’t regret cheating that much, since you did it twice. It’s an entirely different situation, so do not bring me and my wife into this.” 

“I know, sorry, that was out of line.” Buck says quietly, feeling small under Hen’s gaze.

I think the funniest thing they can do for Eddie in season 8 is have him realize he's in love with Buck, think he can't have it because Buck is a) too entwined with Chris b) doesn't feel the same c) is in a relationship and in trying to stop himself feeling feelings for his best friend, he tries seeing other men (because on top of his feelings for Buck he realizes he's gay, of course) and ends up starting a relationship with another man and it's another doppelganger -

Specifically Oliver Stark in a bad wig, wearing glasses, and speaking in his British accent.

And Eddie doesn't see it. And Buck doesn't see it.

Everyone else does of course.

So this might be an unpopular opinion (or maybe not), but as a bi woman, I would be fucking PISSED if Buck and Eddie ended up kissing or hooking up during the bachelor party.

eddie diaz has ALWAYS been emotionally messy. his whole thing since we met him has been that he's not an efficient problem solver when it comes to his issues, because he wasn't raised that way. the reasons have all been listed before. absent father leaving a household where eddie had to fill his place in many aspects. catholic latin family living in texas. emotional repression for breakfast lunch and dinner every day of his LIFE up until his girlfriend got pregnant and he knew he could do nothing but marry her and immediately do what he learned was easiest: running away from his problems. it took a physical bullet wound to bring him back to them, with a mile of extra baggage so heavy it all imploded, and he was not the only casualty. and even after all of that he keeps running away. he's in LA, miles away from texas and even further from afghanistan, and yet his old habits don't die because he never actually dealt with them. he keeps fighting tooth and nail against therapy because he's never thought it would change anything for him. trying so goddamn hard to PLEASE every single person in his life and avoiding confrontation until it plants its feet in front of him and forces him to put things out in the open. this thing with kim isn't "out of character". it's the right kind of wrong because it's something he WOULD do without stopping to consider that he doesn't have to destroy something so he can leave it behind. the only way out for him has ALWAYS been through the most jaded path. and maybe one day he can learn that it doesn't always have to be like that, that there are easier roads. but that's not gonna be any time soon and that's okay, too.

Someone in that interview is lying out their ass bc there’s no way a sudden break up like that is amicable. This would’ve been easier if they’d actually shown us that Tommy and David were actually having problems or falling out of love, but no!!! Once again it’s off panel!

Something messy happened and that interview proves they don’t want to attempt writing messy when that’s probably the pinnacle of x men related and adjacent characters (which Tommy IS bc his bf is x men and his chosen mother (Wanda) and uncle (Pietro) (idk if chosen is entirely the right word but they’re not biologically related bc of the reincarnation thing but I don’t think that’d matter to Tommy of all people) are mutants!! The only reason he isn’t involved more is bc writers refuse to use him!!!) writing and story arcs.

If they gathered the balls to actually say it was messy, I could see options for either one being the messy one, maybe even both.
