I have this AU that's been bouncing around in my head for weeks and I need opinions on it so. Yeah. Tell me what you think.

Also, for context, they're all about 17-20 in this AU. Details will come later if I decide to do anything with the idea.

Spock is a prince on Vulcan; their society is fairly similar to how it is in canon but certain elements of the pre-reform society remain, so it's more spiritual and there's a monarchy in place. Spock has accepted his role as heir to the throne after his brother's disappearance-- but he's always felt out of place. The monarchy carefully hides his half-human identity from the public, and every aspect of his life is intricately controlled. He's suffering, really, but in his mind it's for the good of his people.

Meanwhile, James Tiberius Kirk is a pirate living on a busted old space craft, having fun, sailing through the galaxy with his stressed best friend Leonard McCoy who regrets receiving military medical training every day of his life, their constantly high engineer buddy Montgomery Scott who keeps the ship from falling apart with duct tape and prayers, Hikaru Sulu who has hit on every person on the ship and slept with every alien they've come across, Pavel Chekov who is Sulu's very tired boyfriend who doesn't really do much but any suggestions that he should leave would be met with someone getting stabbed (they're in an open relationship for context dw Chekov is a manwhore too), and finally Nyota Uhura who was mostly just here to get a ride one time but she realized these stupid fucks needed a Lesbian with some braincells on board so she handles the logistics of their crimes.

The night before Spock is scheduled to marry a barely known noble girl named T'Pring, Kirk and his crew kidnap him for ransom, assuming it will just be another job. But, alas, Jim falls in love and won't let Spock go, not caring in the slightest that he has caused an interplanetary crisis mostly for his own amusement.

Tldr the dumbasses are dumb and I love them

This is for Day 16 of trektober 2023, Kid Fic. (Posted a day late due to my birthday being yesterday. Still playing catch up for day 17's story as well.)

Summary:

Chekov hasn't seen Sulu since his friend's extended family leave began. Now on shore leave himself, Pavel decides to pay his old friend a visit. No one would turn away a Russian bearing gifts.

Preview of story:

Sulu stretches out on the couch. He pulls one of the extra couch pillows under his head, and bends his legs at the knee, so his feet keep from touching Chekov. “Thanks Pavel.”

Chekov unfolds his legs, stretching them out over the carpet. He throws his head back against the couch, both arms stretched above him.

He turns his body to lean his left side against the couch. Sulu’s chest was already lifting and falling in a steady pattern. Demora is seemingly sleeping just as soundly in her swing. Fatigued eyes drift back to Sulu. Despite the helmsman’s obvious exhaustion, fatherhood suits him. He’s always worn a smile, but it’s larger now. Chekov still remembers the way Hikaru had lept up with joy on the bridge of the Enterprise when Uhura delivered the message. The adoption papers had been approved.

Even now, as he falls deeper into rest, there’s a grin on Sulu’s face. Fatherhood suits him indeed.

That’s such a strange thought.

Hikaru, a father. It’s reality and yet still doesn’t feel real. Chekov was sitting there, in Sulu’s living room, watching father and daughter nap, but it still hadn’t set in. It feels as if he could blink and they’d both be back on the Enterprise waiting for the news. Or even back here, sitting on the couch, drinking as they talk about their favorite moments of past missions.

I think it is very important for new Star Trek fans, especially new TOS fans to know that in 2008, George Takei, who played Sulu, got married to his partner of 23 years, Brad Altman, and at their wedding, Nichelle Nichols, who played Uhura, and Walter Koenig, who played Chekov, served as Best Lady and Best Man.

I'm begging everybody to send me some good sulu and/or cherkov fanfics. Like I get that Spock and Kirk is the main pairing but where is the rest of it? I don't even want them being gay and in love I just want friendship and maybe a couple sickfics??? They constantly get abandoned on some random planet and attacked, how come I haven't found a single fic in which sulu get's injured and cherkov just comes into the sickbay like "waddup bestie, work is boring without you"???

Summary:

Everyone needs space sometimes.

Preview of the story:

Chekov holds his tongue. Asking, ‘how do babies exercise’ had only earned him a laugh the first time. Personally, he thought the joke could run a little longer, but Sulu had lost his humor to the exhaustion. Instead he asks, “What’s the plan for today?”

With a slow sweep of his hanging head, Sulu silently answers. Black bangs catch in the light as they hang down, nearly brushing the tip of Demora’s bottle. He needs a haircut. Sulu always kept his bangs swept neatly to the side, and his hair short. Gently divided around his ears. Now the shaggy strands were falling over his ears, having grown beyond them. When was the last time he enjoyed a long sonic shower? Chekov hasn’t gone out since coming over two days ago. How often has Sulu been able to leave and take a walk around the city? Probably just for groceries, if he hasn’t just been getting them delivered.

“You should leave.”

Sulu raises his head with an amount of speed Chekov hasn’t seen him use since their last mission with Captain Kirk. A look of well-contained ire sends a shiver down Chekov’s spine. The younger man tries to swallow. The spit barely pushes past the lump in his throat. Chekov raises his right hand and circles it around his head. “You need a haircut.”

A silent, oh, forms on Sulu’s dry lips. What he truly needs is a break. Chekov yawns and leans back against the couch arm he’d been sleeping on earlier. That was the one thing Chekov hasn’t really been able to help provide despite all his assistance. “And I need rest.”

Despite being among humans for close to a decade, I still find their tendency to overcomplicate and avoid aspects of social situations to be confusing at best and infuriating at worst. So much time is wasted on tedious matters such as who gets to 'make the first move' or 'not come off too strong'.

For example, everyone aboard my vessel is keenly aware of Lt. Uhura and Engineer Scott's 'budding romance'. But their need to extend their oddly avoidant courtship ritual, rather than outright state their interest in one another, is pointless, as well as frustrating to witness.

Why do they do this? Why not 'get it over with', as they say?

I encourage answers from all cultures, human or otherwise.
