Hiii, what hanfu is suitable for high-tea event? The theme was black, white and gold. What words i need to type in taobao. please help me☹️
Hi, thanks for the question, and sorry for taking ages to reply!
There’s no concept of a “high-tea event” in Chinese culture, but from looking at photos of such events, I think a two-piece hanfu outfit with a flouncy skirt would be most suitable. Ming-style hanfu probably work best here. You can search on Taobao using the keywords 汉服/hanfu combined with the theme colors: 黑/hei (black), 白/bai (white), 金/jin (gold).
Here are a few hanfu from Taobao that I think would suit the event in question:
1. These two Ming-style outfits comprised of high-collar puff-sleeve shan & modified mamianqun, from 拟梦/Ni Meng:

2. More examples of the classy Ming-style high-collar shan & mamianqun combo, from 承前国风/Chengqian Guofeng:

3. Generally speaking, mamianqun are great for gold (and silver) details. You can’t go wrong by pairing a top with a gold-embellished mamianqun, like this one from 若兰兮/Ruo Lan Xi:
Tumblr media
4. For a non-Ming style, there’s this elegant Song-style outfit with black & white floral motifs from 织造司/Zhi Zao Si. You can pair it with gold accessories (hairpin, brooch, earrings, etc.):

5. For a more “hybrid” look, this super cute Ming-style hanyuansu outfit from 瞳莞/Tong Guan has elements of ruffles, lace, and ribbons. Again, you can accessorize with gold:

If anyone has more recs, please feel free to share!
Hope this helps! ^^

Not sure if you can answer this, but at what point did people like the Xiongnu, Xianbei, Qiang etc. stopped “existing” i.e., seen as Han Chinese or something like that
The Xiongnu still existed in the Eastern Turkic Khaganate in the 600's during Taizong's reign. I haven't looked into the Xiongnu during the Tang era much so I can only say that they existed in the Khaganate at that point.
The Xianbei established the Tuyuhun which lasted until Emperor Gaozong of Tang's reign.
The Qiang established the Later Qin, one of the 16 KIngdoms that was conquered by Liu Yu in 417. There is a modern ethnic group called the Qiang, but I'm unsure of their relation.
I can tell more about the Xianbei than the others.
Generally put, the Xianbei and other nomads had their own culture long into the Tang dynasty. It's what gives the Tang its reputation of a cosmopolitan empire. The Tang didn't force their own culture onto the population or the officials, unlike some regimes like Northern Zhou which forced Xianbei culture and Emperor Xiaowen's reforms forcing Han. Nomads kept nomadic culture and continued existence as a separate group.
Eventually Emperor Xiaowen decided to launch sinicisation. His intent was for the Xianbei to be seen as Han... but it didn't work as much as he had hoped. The Six Garrisons did not take well to the sinicisation, and they later formed the nobility in the Northern Qi dynasty. Although the nobles of Northern Zhou took better to sinicisation, they still Xianbeified again in that dynasty.
Eventually the Sui dynasty decided that everyone Han should present as Han and everyone Xianbei should present as Xianbei. His own name was changed to Puliuru under the Northern Zhou Xianbeification, but he changed his name back to Yang and became more Han.
The Tang tried to present themselves as Han Chinese; but at times the Xianbei lineage of the imperial family (Emperor Gaozu, Emperor Taizong and Emperor Gaozong's mothers were all Xianbei who were sinicised to differing degrees) showed through. For example, Li Shimin's crown prince Li Chengqian lived a very Turkic lifestyle, and Li Shimin was respected by the nomads (and he respected them in return), and he followed the Turkic custom of marrying one's brother's wife when he made Li Yuanji's wife Princess Yang his concubine.
By the Tang, the Xianbei were trying to present themselves as being Han Chinese (at least the elites were) but they also didn't forget their Xianbei culture either. I'm not well versed in that period but the Tang became more xenophobic after the An Lushan rebellion which was started by a non-Han Chinese.
If you were to ask, say, Tuoba Gui or Tuoba Si (the first two Northern Wei emperors) what ethnicity they were, they would say that they were Xianbei. If you asked Yuan Hong (Emperor Xiaowen) he would probably say that although his lineage was Xianbei, he thinks that he is Han. If you asked Li Shimin, he would say that he is Han (but he wouldn't think of himself as purely Han).

While re-watching Joy of Life, I noticed something I hadn't paid much attention to the first time around. Let me demonstrate with pictures.
This is the Crown Prince, Li Chengqian sits. Proper posture, erect back, and hands on his lap when not in use.
Tumblr media
How the Second Prince, Li Chengze, sits in that very scene.
Tumblr media
In fact, this is his favorite position.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's not like he's unable to sit properly, he can. As demonstrated by the scene of Fan Xian's trial.
Tumblr media
Yet, whenever possible, he will squat. @terribleteej, @arlothia and I have a few theories as to why he sits that way.
1. It's simply more comfortable.
2. Just to annoy his father and brother,
3. Some highly intelligent and/or neuro-divergent people say that sitting in a proper/restrictive posture interferes with their thinking. And Li Chengze is ALWAYS thinking.
4. He is perennially ready to run. More specifically, ready to outrun his brother. Afterall, being in pants, barefoot and on his tip-toes, he will have the upper hand over Li Chengqian who is always dressed in neat robes, sits properly, and is wearing shoes that are definitely not designed for running.
What do you think? Any other theories for why Li Chengze sits like this?

Headcanons for the crown prince in jol? I can't remember his name rn but I like him
Ooh Li Chengqian! I like him the most as a person in the royal family. He is not the most interesting or compelling character in the royal family, but he's the one least likely to kill/control/etc Fan Xian. (Which is not a high bar tbh). (I’m not counting the concubines bc we meet them for like 2 minutes and they don’t have the family name Li)
Headcanon A: Realistic: He liked Lin Wan’er when they were kids, but they grew apart after she moved out of the palace and he grew ‘closer’ to her mom than her. In that same vein, he used to be much closer to Li Chengze/the Second Prince when they were kids as well. (this is not soul-crushing and awful to my standards at least.)
Headcanon B: Not Realistic per se, but hilarious: When Ruoruo went and offered her services to spy on her brother for him (to do her double agent thing), he probably thought she was trying to get into his good graces so she could eventually proposition him. (Idk if anyone else will find that funny, but in my hc, Ruoruo’s a lesbian, so I find it hilarious.)
Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends: Poor dude just wants his dad’s approval, and if he can’t get that, his aunt’s approval. Honey, they’re both just using you. Li Yunrui is just using you as a shield, and your dad is obsessed with his bastard that he won’t even claim. You’re always going to be second fiddle to your brothers.
Headcanon D: unrealistic but I reject canon reality and inject my own: he’s the empress dowager’s favorite (aside from Lin Wan’er). I have no reason for this except that he deserves the approval of someone not his mom (which i don’t remember which concubine is his mum lol) and he sure ain’t gonna get it from Li Yunrui or the Emperor.
Thanks for the ask anon!

These bitches have a lot of homoerotic tension. However, it's probably one-sided (romantically anyways). Also they are a part of a gang. My beloved wifey wanted me to draw them because she simps for my boy Chengqian Li. She wanted a new phone wallpaper.
Also I wanted to try something new with my art. It stuck, so I decided to do this with my art from this point onwards.

I’m not sure how familiar you are with this, but what’s up with the weird hostility people online have regarding the Li clan’s ethnicty?
Basically, people think that the Li clan are ethnically Xianbei. This is because of archaeological evidence of an epitaph of one of the Longxi Li that says that they were descended from the Tuoba clan. They did show some signs of non-Han roots, for example Li Shimin engaged in the non-Han custom of marrying your brother's widow, while Li Chengqian acted like a Turkic Khan so much that people were considering replacing him with Li Tai.
Even if the paternal lineage of the Li clan was Han, the Tang rulers did have some Xianbei blood, as Li Yuan's mother Lady Dugu, Li Shimin's mother Lady Dou and Li Zhi's mother Lady Zhangsun were Xianbei sinicized to various degrees.
NOTE: Xianbei is not the same as Turkic. The Ashina clan were Turkic. The Northern Wei Tuoba clan were Xianbei. There is a difference.
In my opinion, it doesn't really matter. It really only matters to Han supremacists who don't want the Tang dynasty to be non-Han Chinese.
