I unexpectedly read this book in one sitting. It was such an interesting read!!
It added a couple of words to my vocabulary as well. It was also a humbling book to read when you're feeling like a slug or lost. Hihi

And if out of this turning-within, out of this immersion in your own world, poems come, then you will not think of asking anyone whether they are good or not. Nor will you try to interest magazines in these works: for you will see them as your dear natural possession, a piece of your life, a voice from it. A work of art is good if it has arisen out of necessity. That is the only way one can judge it #RainerMariaRilke #acceptance #self #takeupspace #madrid #sculpture #ritualsthatfeellikehome #clay #homestudio #necessity #choosemust https://www.instagram.com/p/CFFrz2es2xh/?igshid=1teb2l1nj5h27

All of these doubts ran through my mind at some point when I first wanted to open an Etsy store. But now, almost two years and nearly 40 sales later, it's been a blast and I have discovered my passion. If you want to start your own Etsy store, message me or comment on any of my posts! Etsy has changed a lot since I first started, but I'd love to help you get going on your own creative journey! 💙💙💙 Repost @themakerssession ・・・ Starting out doesn't have to be scary when you have the right support. <3 . #etsywholesale #etsywholesalesellers#makersgonnamake #creativebusiness#etsylife #etsysuccess #etsysales#smallbusinesslove #smallbizlove#entrepreneursunite #wholesalelove#wholesaleseller #sidehustlenation#solopreneurs #makersmarket#flashesofdelight #makersmovement#thatsdarling #letteringpractice#makemoments #thehappynow#choosemust #fromwhereistand#pursuepretty #livecolorfully #hustle#lovelydays #dowhatyoulove#makersvillage #beingboss

Day 8 of #100DaysOfCosmicConnections 🌌 "Technicolor Dreams" This day has been so #magical 🔮 I have been literally #painting the entire day, I have only stopped to eat and drink my #coffee ☕️ I guess that happens when you #love 💗 what you do. As the day went by, I started doing some #linedrawing 🖊I tried it a handful of times, but never let myself fully explore making #art with it because I can't seem to let go of using my #watercolors 🎨 I decided to let it go for today, or so I thought and just picked up my #micron #pen - After I started making some triangles, I started to connect them, and then made it into a pyramid and it turned into a super cool #geometric #triangle #pattern - Then I made #lines inside of them and I #watercolor them with different #blues 🖌 pinks and purples. I felt so great doing that type of art, and I remembered that by this time last year, I was reading The Crossroads of Should and Must by Elle Luna 🌙 and on one chapter said to go back to your childhood, what type of #creative activities you did, and those were the seeds of must, and I remembered that as a kid I loved #doodling and line drawing a.k.a stick figures. What a cosmic connection right? 1 year after reading the book and deciding to #choosemust and after who knows how many years since I #doodle like this, today as part of #The100DayProject I got to reconnect with myself and in a good way be a kid again who loved #coloring • #puertorico #creativity #instaart #illustration #illustrator #artstagram #artoftheday #picoftheday (at Puerto Rico)

Thinking About Doing #The100DayProject
Last year on Instagram I participated in a phenomenon called the #The100DayProject, started by Elle Luna. I did a project that I actually enjoyed a great deal, which was #100DaysofMerFolk, in which I drew a mermaid every day. I only got up to day 25 though, because it turned out I was drawing 4 hours a day on this project-- which were 4 very joyous hours, but still, I ran out of bandwidth to carry on for more than a month of that before my other projects needed that kind of time.
Now it’s that time of year again, the next 100 Day Project starts April 3, and I have to choose a project. There’ve been a few emails on the topic of how to choose a project, and there are 3 suggested guidelines:
1. something that makes you excited to think about,
2. something you can achieve in 5 minutes without alot of equipment,
3. something you’ll feel proud of by the end of 100 days
They’re a good rubric, really- they prevent you from doing something that’s too hard (in which case you won’t complete it) or too easy (in which case it mightn’t be meaningful) or too serious (in which case the project would have no impact on your life / is no different than what you’d do anyway for the next 100 days).
So the MerFolk project was awesome, but it was too hard to do every day for 100 days. Maybe sometime I’ll have the ability to do the remaining 75 of those Mer-People (I just recently realized that the 100DayProject isn’t based on a deadline, it’s based on the number-- you can finish anytime, and finishing that project might, sometime, have value) So this time, whatever I choose, it has to be achievable. Something I can do anywhere.
I’m thinking about blogging for my project.
Now here’s the thing- I never blog, and it feels really alien and awkward and I don’t know where to start- no idea what to say. I go through my life with so many thoughts in my head but when I try to blog, nothing comes out. What’s weird is, I’m very into journaling-- as in, writing in pen into a paper book that I then keep and store forever in some vault in central Cali. I’ve attempted to blog before, and I fail every time. Why is journaling so easy for me, and blogging is so hard? Is it a matter of the physicality, pen to paper, something that the digital space of the blogging window just doesn’t replicate? Perhaps that’s part of it. I think also, the goals of journaling and blogging aren’t the same-- in a paper journal, you’re free. Free to ramble, free to talk shit- maybe no one will ever see it, maybe archeologists in the year 2489 or your grandchildren emptying your attic will read it, either way you’re safe to detach, safe to be whoever you want, safe to let that real person you never show anyone out. Paper leaves no digital footprints, doesn’t appear in a google search, it doesn’t have to make sense, it doesn’t have to be good, it doesn’t have to hide from your boss or mother or the dating pool, it’s just you against your mind, plunging through different layers of it- the goal of journaling is largely personal. At least the way I go about it. Blogging though, blogging is public. Blogging is page-counts and marketing and adwords and key search terms and reputation management and a whole lot of other things that, next to journaling, seem artificial. Blogging feels like being on a stage, it’s like I get tongue-tied and don’t know what to say. Do I have anything worth saying?
There’s alot of power in what you do every day. It’s not only a matter of regular practice, there’s arcs and trends that happen when you expose yourself to something every day over a course of time. I actually started doing a certain practice every day already, back in November 2016. I started doing 30 minutes of writing every day, specifically to work on the many novel-ideas I have going. I had heard Srinivas Rao talk about how he writes 1000 words a day and the impact it’s had on his life, and I was very drawn to that idea. But in my case, I decided not to measure my writing goal in terms of words, but in terms of time. That felt more easy to me-- more manageable to block of 30 minutes a day to devote to writing, surely I can do that no matter what is going on. Plus it’d allow for days when I only work on thinking through outlines, or just thinking about a book- 30 minutes a day meant there was a regular block of time every day to devote to working on a book. It was great- in fact, it was better than I thought. Even at just a base minimum of 30 minutes a day, the work moved forward. It was because I was exposing myself to the problem every day, keeping it fresh, keeping my mind on it. Like a job you go to every day, gradually starting to see yourself as that job and the world around you through its eyes, working on some project of your choosing every day, especially if no one is yet rewarding you for it, is a huge take-back of power over your own mind. You redirect some of your own mental real estate away from all the other things pulling at it, towards some target you have chosen. It’s like willpower acting the sorcerer over the mental goop it is itself made of. There is so much self-alchemy that a person can do with a daily project. So yes, I know from experience that there is huge, huge power in doing something daily, even for a short time.
Now the thing with my current daily writing practice is, it’s kind of blown up. For the first few weeks, it was 30 minutes minimum with more being ok. Soon, I found that I was writing an hour a day. Then, it became 2 hours. Fast forward, now I’m writing 4 hours a day (what is it with me and 4 hours?) I guess I must like writing... But do I really need another daily project about writing? I thought about doing a drawing-based daily project, for that reason (was test-driving that one too) but here’s another idea I’m testing out-- what’s been keeping me from blogging successfully, is there something in it for me that I can find in 100 days, and also can I frikkin keep myself from letting a 5-10 minute project exploding to consume hours (I can get carried away-- this entry was only supposed to be a small paragraph). So in any case, I wanted to test drive. I’ll probably try test-driving this thing another day or so, see how it feels, before the 3rd rolls around.
Also, if I do choose blogging, I have to choose a name for the project. #100DaysofBlogging is no good, a zillion others will have chosen it already, I have to figure out a name that’ll denote just my take. So we’ll see.
Peace
