Seth joined the party in Krovs Town much later than his claim Duncan. He'd sent Duncan off earlier since the witch had to take care of Circe to ensure she'd be settled for the night with her favorite blanket and toys in the castle's kennel. God forbid he drank too much and couldn't get back home and Seth didn't want to forcibly limit himself into having not as much fun as he could for his last Christmas alive. Besides, sobriety for an evening seemed impossible with Shade serving him drinks at Cannabites –– the benefits of being friends with the owner of his favorite restaurant.
He found Duncan at the bar after meeting up with Shade and swiftly stole the seat next to his claim. "Merry fucking Christmas, dude," he said. "How 'bout a drink on me?"

Here are finally the three drawings of the Christmas holidays at Hogwarts! 😍❤️😍
Even though Brick and Duncan have to spend the Christmas holidays at Hogwarts, they don’t get sad easily as they keep each other company, especially thanks to Duncan’s playful sweets in front of the fireplace in Gryffindor’s Common Room!
Even the teachers celebrate the holidays by having a little fun thanks to their great friendship.
However, not everyone in the castle is able to enjoy this joyful period, in fact little Jo is not in the mood to celebrate...
Ufff... I finally managed to finish them, these will be the last drawings of 2023! I wish you happy holidays and good rest everyone!❤️
Let me know what you think and above all if you like them!❤️

Traintober 2023: Day 15 - Maintenance
Duke's Hidden Fear:
Tumblr media
It all began when Rusty felt a cough in their engine one cold morning, not long after Duke returned to service. The old engine sidled up alongside, looking concerned. “Are you alright, youngster?” he asked. “It’s just a cough,” Rusty said, “but it might make me late with the maintenance train – we wanted to get a start on the trackwork before the frost grew too bad.” “Don’t worry about it,” Duke said. “I’ll take the workmen up on the back of my mineral train.” “That would be incredible!” exclaimed Rusty. “Thank you so much!”
Duke shunted the works train onto the back of his empty mineral trucks and hauled the lot away, bringing them up the line to their first works siding before completing his run. He brought them up to their next location while his trucks were being loaded, then brought the loaded trucks down, picking up the maintenance crew as he ran up the line with his first passenger train and bringing them to Glennock.
Rusty stayed in the shed that day and the little diesel’s driver checked their engine over. A bolt had rattled loose, and once it was tightened Rusty was ready to run again the next day.
The engines chalked Duke’s helpfulness up to just that: helpfulness; and continued on their usual schedules.
Then, it happened again. Rheneas was feeling short of steam at the end of his run, sitting at the Top Station with a full train of passengers visiting the little village by the lake for an ice-skating display. Duke sat nearby with his own coaches.
“Did you need a buffer?” offered Duke. “I can take your passengers home with mine,” he said. “We leave within ten minutes of each other, I’m sure they wouldn’t mind.” “I couldn’t do that,” huffed Rheneas. “I don’t want to let the passengers down.” “You wouldn’t be doing that,” Duke said. “I can look after them, but you don’t sound well. Have your pipes had a good cleaning recently?”
Rheneas had to admit it had been a while, and after a little more badgering from Duke, he relinquished his train and headed back down the line to have his pipes checked.
That afternoon, the engines were treated to the incredible sight of Duke gamely snorting down the line with almost every coach the line had, white smoke curling up into the crystal blue sky as he brought the heavy train into the Works Station. James and Bear were most impressed, as Duke brought the coaches into the platform and the passengers thanked him for bringing them safely home.
Rheneas’ pipes did need a clean – though the workmen all agreed Rheneas would have been fine for a few more days before really needing a thorough clean.
“It’s unusual,” Rheneas said to Skarloey that evening as the pair watched Duke shunt away a line of trucks. “Most engines don’t even notice their own pipes are blocked until it gets uncomfortable – but Duke could tell my pipes were getting clogged just by listening to my pistons. It doesn’t make any sense…”
Skarloey agreed, and the pair decided to keep watch over their railway’s ‘new’ engine.
Winter continued to settle in, bringing with it icy rails, frigid snow and the upsurge in traffic that was the Christmas season. All through it, Duke worked hard. On the mornings when Rusty’s engine struggled to turn over, Duke would take out the little diesel’s first train, and when any one of the other engines felt unwell, somehow the Mid Sodor’s number one was always nearby and able to take their train as well as his own.
Sir Handel was sent down to the sheds by Duke after his piston began to jangle, Skarloey got the day off to be checked over after making a comment about a cramp in his springs (which turned out to be an ice patch which had moulded to the spring overnight) and Duncan managed to pawn several of his trains off onto the old engine. The engines were all kept very well-maintained due to this meddling, and yet the cold weather kept on producing more issues – including ones Duke hid from the others.
Still, he resolutely took on every job he could, doing far more than his fair share of the work.
And when the last trains of the Christmas and New Years’ rush were completed, all tickets punched and all parcels delivered, Duke volunteered to run the few vital trains the little heritage railway offered until the snow began to melt. Normally, the engines rotated this duty – but Duke was determined.
“I just came out of the works,” he said to the Thin Controller as he backed down onto a long line of coal trucks. “I can handle the work – and it’s a good chance for you to give them important maintenance, so we’re all at our best during the summer season.”
In the face of an argument that good, the Thin Controller had to agree.
Duke worked hard all through the winter, bringing supplies up to the towns and villages in the hills and bringing the locals down to Crovan’s Gate in return. The old engine was never out of steam, always having water in his tanks and a fire beating inside him.
“Always ready,” he vowed.
Even at night, when the icy winds howled and no sane man or machine would be out, Duke would be ready in case of emergencies – such as when an older woman broke her leg and needed to be brought to a hospital at once.
The other engines began to worry about their Granpuff. He was doing triple the work of an engine a fraction of his age, with more grit and determination than either Rusty or Duncan had ever seen.
Peter Sam, Sir Handel, Rheneas and Skarloey had though. Duke was doing exactly what he’d done on the Mid Sodor Railway; what Rheneas had done on the Skarloey Railway. He was running himself into the ground to give the other engines a break, to keep the railway open and ensure there was always an engine to run it.
It was not an unusual tactic from an older engine – especially one who had seen their railway go through hard times. But never to this extent. Duke was resolute and unmovable – he did all the work.
Peter Sam spoke up one evening, when Duke returned from bringing food up to the villagers.
“You’re running yourself into the ground,” he said. “You shouldn’t already be this tired, Granpuff – you just came out of the works.” “I’m not tired,” huffed Duke. “I’m fine! I’m just looking after things so you all can get routine maintenance.” “You said the same thing on our old line,” Sir Handel said. “We always got sent to be checked over the moment we began to show signs of feeling unwell, and you took everything on your wheels.” “I did it so you could run again the next day,” Duke hissed, his façade cracking. “On our old line, they wouldn’t have paid to give either of you an overhaul if you broke down. I made sure you were in top condition so they’d never be in that position… so you wouldn’t break down and be… be sold. I did it to keep you safe—” Duke’s eyes went wide.
The old engine suddenly let off steam and escaped out of the sheds. Sir Handel and Peter Sam winced.
“Ah, so that explains it,” Sir Handel eventually said. The others looked over curiously. “What do you mean?” asked Skarloey. “When we were sold. They bought Peter Sam and I ‘cause we were in good condition – surprisingly good condition for how poor our line was by the end. Duke took on everything because he knew what was coming. He knew we were going under – he must have, he’s too wily not to. He deliberately ran himself into the ground to keep us safe…”
“And then he spent twenty years not knowing if he’d succeeded,” Skarloey realised. “He never left that mindset.”
No one was really sure how to help Duke with that. Rheneas had only managed to overcome his worries due to the letters he was sent by Skarloey and the sheer fact he’d succeeded in saving his home, and Skarloey had been present for much of the turnaround of their railway. But Duke lost his home.
Duke had lost his home in spite of everything he’d done. He lost it all, and it had taken everything he had just to get his youngsters into a position where they might survive. He neglected his own maintenance to make sure they were in the best condition when the buyers came sniffing.
But to help Duke recover from this sense of worry... that was something the engines weren't sure how to tackle.

favorite quote: there are a lot of bits and pieces from isadora duncan's autobiography that i could mention, but to be brief i'm gonna pick just one that really stuck with me:
"this was the first faint note of the prelude of the tragedy which presently was to end all hopes of any natural, joyous life for me— for ever after. i believe that although one may seem to go on living, there are some sorrows that kill. one's body may drag along its weary way on earth, but one's spirit is crushed— for ever crushed. i have heard people speak of the ennobling influence of sorrow. i can only say that those last few days of my life, before the blow fell, were actually the last days of my spiritual life. ever since then i have had only one desire— to fly— to fly— to fly from the horror of it, and my life has been but a series of weird flights from it all; and all life has been to me but as a phantom ship upon a phantom ocean."

last tuesday of 2023!
i thought about making this my Yearly Roundup for last tuesday of the year but i think instead i will make this a normal tuesdaypost, and do a big yearly reflection on friday or saturday for last shabbos of the year :)
listening: twilight mirage, still in that holiday special, episode 23. the way that there are eight fuckin episodes for that special........in part 1 or 2 they make a comment how they might have to do three parts and i was like. lol. lmao, even. i'm in the bit right now where they're doing an election and it's very funny. thisbe as the debate moderator made me laugh out loud.
reading: the best part of the game awards this year was the fashion, alyssa mercante: i looooved some of these looks. love the art corset on slide 4, jay-ann lopez on slide 15, the pleated dress on slide 17, the MATCHING BABY ON SLIDE 19, and the author's whole everything on slide 20.
sff's big fat problem, r. k. duncan: i was already aware of some of the stuff talked about here but i am definitely guilty of having less overt things - i.e. goblin emperor reference in there - totally fly by me. i feel like i saw a lot of people talking about rowling's fatphobia after she went mask-off but she is definitely on the more malicious end of the spectrum, it's a much much much more baked in problem than people give it credit for. thinking also about the locked tomb, which i love, but also makes some very weird comments about ortus that i did not clock at all until someone else pointed it out. just something i'm thinking about lately.
the world is hard, dinner doesn't need to be, julia turshen: what it says on the tin. some recipe ideas, cut down to mental bare essentials.
old growth, brawlite: saved the fanfic for last. obsessed with this. it's so so good. the format is a really neat idea that i don't know if i've seen done before. like, using the 'comment section' to point out 'things in the background of shots'? genius. i am eating it up. i should have signed up for this exchange. maybe next year.
playing: fallow. i might buy some games that are on sale tho lol, i've seen both pyre and ghostwire: tokyo recommended this week. latter is no longer on sale unfortunately but i am noting it down for later.
watching: the fashion industry hates older women, mina le
history of bathing, bernadette banner
aaaand a short film that a grad student in my department made as a project. it's. not good. like i'm happy that he's doing hobbies or whatever but this short film commits the cardinal sin of being neither good nor bad, Just Boring. 2/10.
making: the [redacted project] is almost done!! i have 10 rows left. each row takes me about 15 minutes. i will definitely finish it by the end of the week, fringe and all. no pictures yet for obvious reasons but it will be in the first tuesdaypost of the year for 2024! the biggest challenge now is the point of contact on my left hand where i rest the knitting needle against my middle finger is aggravating on a sensory standpoint from overuse, so i have been knitting with one glove on that hand which has helped a lot.
there was a preview of these last week, but i added finishing touches to my gavle goat holiday cards! i used a metallic sharpie to add some horn embellishments and wrote a little note on the back, and mailed out a bunch :)
Tumblr media
misc: the first christmas eve/day of my life where i didn't get chinese food!!! shock, horror, etc. i'm at my roommate's family's place so i experienced a real christmas situation. it was fine. her family & their home is like ... hallmark card vibes and idk how i feel about it. i want wonton soup :(

⚠️ Want all to be aware there is more to GA Family, née GAC, than G-rated Christmas movies. Though I’m including dates and details here in the spirit of being a completist, worth noting the funding and founding of this channel, which comes from the Donald Trump-aligned Hicks Equity Group, brings with it an explicit anti-diversity agenda, hiding under guise of harmless sounding words like “family-friendly” and “safe” programming. More detailed explanation here (bottom of page), and additional more recent thoughts, for those who want it. And if you’re looking for outside sources on GAF’s political affiliations and lack of inclusion, see these stories from The Daily Beast, Vulture, the L.A. Times and Bloomberg.

Dan would be completely happy if he never had to see a cardboard box ever again. They were all he saw, whether his eyes were open or not. Boxes full of clothes, boxes full of board games, boxes full of random crap he didn't even know they had. Stacks of boxes lined each room of their apartment, creating an obstacle at this point to get from one room to another.
They had been living like this for a while now after being met with delay after delay on construction of their new home. Initially, they were supposed to move around Christmas. Then New Years. Then mid January, February, March, and now April. He was so tired of being in limbo. Not only did he have no idea where anything was anymore, Dan was tired of wearing the same four shirts and having to wash plates and utensils after each use. He couldn't wait for it to be over.
“Phil,” Dan called from the bathroom.
“Yeah?”
“Where’s the paracetamol?”
“I think in one of the pockets of the suitcases.”
Between the upcoming book release and the upcoming move, or let’s face it… the ongoing move, Dan had been more stressed than he had been in a while, causing an awful headache. His head was throbbing in pain with each step he took in the direction of the bedroom.
There were a few suitcases that the pain killers could be in. Dan first checked the pockets in the suitcase he used most often, but did not find them there. He maneuvered around some boxes to get to Phil’s suitcase to check that next.
In the pocket at the front of Phil's suitcase wasn’t paracetamol, but there was a small, black, square box. There were only a couple of things that could be in a box like that. There was a voice in his head that told him to leave it there and not open it, but his curiosity was getting the better of him. When he took the box out of the pocket and opened it, Dan thought his heart had stopped. It was exactly what he thought it might be.
It was a ring. And it was beautiful. The silver ring had thin bands of ebony, gold, and what looked like meteorite. It was the perfect mix of luxe and minimalist. Dan wasn’t sure if he could pick out a nicer ring for himself if he tried. Phil did well.
As much as he wanted to just stare at the ring in awe, his mind started to race. Phil was going to propose. He should have felt excited. A proposal was an exciting thing, right? The next chapter of their relationship. Something that people dream about happening. But instead, all he felt was anxiety. How would he react if Phil popped the question? When was he going to do it? Was he ready for marriage? Should he—
“Did you find it?” Dan heard Phil call out before he heard him walk into the room behind him.
Dan froze with the box in hand. Yeah, he definitely found something, just not what he was looking for.
“Oh,” Phil paused for a few seconds. “I kind of forgot that was in there."
Dan turned to glance at him with furrowed brows.
“You forgot? How long was it in there for?" he asked, trying not to make the sadness apparent in his voice.
"Um, since... 2015?” Phil grimaced. “I was going to propose to you in Japan."
Dan felt his heart drop.
”But you didn’t,” he said quietly, as he turned his attention back to the ring. Their trip to Japan was six years ago. Something must have happened for Phil to change his mind.
"Well, yeah. I didn't. We were with Duncan and Mimei and they were talking about their engagement and their wedding, and you made a comment about not wanting to get married because of the commitment that required, so I didn't propose."
"Oh."
He couldn't take his eyes off of the ring.
Dan wasn’t sure how he would have reacted to a proposal back in 2015. He probably would have said no, and he would have hurt Phil more than he unintentially did. And who knows how that would have ended up. He didn’t want to think about that.
"Its alright, though, if you don't want to get married. It doesn't change the way I feel about you. And then we don't have to spend thousands on a wedding!"
Even though Dan mostly had his back to Phil, he could tell that he was still disappointed. The higher pitch of his voice gave it away. Phil was trying to make himself feel better. He was trying not to get upset.
"I didn't really know what to do with it when we got back,” Phil continued. “They wouldn't let me return it, since it was outside of the return window. So, I just... left it in there. And I know you really don't like wearing jewelry or I would just tell you to have it."
Dan didn't respond, even though he knew he should. He wanted to tell Phil what he was really feeling, but he didn't know what that was yet. Was it the disappointment of Dan crushing Phil's dreams without realizing it? Or maybe sadness because of the same reason? There might have also been a little bit of relief and gratitude mixed in because Phil truly listened to what Dan wanted back then, despite his own wants and desires. It was really hard for him to pinpoint.
After about a minute or so, Dan heard Phil walk out of the room. He closed the lid softly and put the box back where he found it, continuing his search for the paracetamol.
Dan eventually found the paracetamol.
While the pain from his headache was now long gone, the thoughts about marriage and commitment were not. They swirled around his head all day, and continued through the night and into the early morning as Dan laid in bed at 2am staring at the ceiling.
When Dan imagined his life in ten, twenty, even thirty years, Phil was always there with him. There wasn’t a scenario where he wasn’t. He was just as much in love with him now as he was twelve years ago, if not more. He had no thoughts of leaving Phil. Ever. They were made for each other. Soulmates. Dan wasn't going anywhere. And the fact that Phil wanted to propose to him six whole years ago truly solidified the fact that Phil wasn't going anywhere either.
Yes, Dan was afraid of the concept of commitment. The idea that you needed to be absolutely sure about something before you moved forward, whether it was a relationship, or a tattoo, or a career, and that if you ended up being wrong, it would take a lot to undo that decision. That was a lot of pressure.
But, in a way, he was already committed. He and Phil had been together for over a decade. They worked together. They had joint bank accounts. They had just bought and designed a home together for fuck’s sake. Their forever home. Their lives were already so intertwined at this point, marriage no longer seemed as scary as it once did.
The only thing that still remained a little scary to Dan was the thought of divorce. Divorce seemed so final. So messy. So legal.
Divorce was a possibility with any marriage, though. He couldn’t let that hold him back. He and Phil had already been through so much together, he was sure they could get through whatever else life threw at them. All of the incredible experiences he and Phil had so far, and the things they had yet to experience, far outweighed the miniscule chance of them ever separating.
Sure, not getting married would be the easy thing to do. But, sometimes life wasn’t about doing what was easiest. It was about doing things that made you happy, right? (Dan still wasn’t sure what the meaning of life was, but it was probably something close to that.) And what made him happy was experiencing life with Phil by his side. What might make him even happier, though, is getting to experience life with Phil as his husband.
The idea alone made him feel giddy.
Dan knew then what he needed to do. He needed to marry Phil Lester.
“Phil?” Dan asked into the darkness. He felt Phil stir next to him.
“Hmm?”
“What if I changed my mind?”
“That’s fine,” Phil mumbled. “You don’t have to come with me.”
They were so in sync normally, that sometimes Dan forgot Phil wasn’t actually inside of his mind. Logically, Phil thought Dan was talking about the last conversation they had, which was about them going to visit Phil’s parents soon. When in reality, the thought of visiting Phil’s parents couldn’t have been further from Dan’s mind right now.
This probably wasn’t the time or place to talk about this, but he knew if he didn’t bring it up, it would keep him up all night.
“No, I mean… about marriage. What if I changed my mind? What if I do want to get married?”
Phil rolled over to face Dan, a little more alert now. “Are you sure?”
Dan turned his head to look at Phil. “Yeah. If you still want to.”
“Of course I do. I just want to make sure that you’re not agreeing to this because it’s something I want. I want to make sure this is something that you want just as much. I meant what I said earlier. If you don’t want to get married, that’s completely fine. Nothing will change between us.”
Dan felt like his heart was going to burst out of his chest. God, he loved this man so much.
“No, it is. I do want this. I thought about it a lot today, and marriage isn’t as scary of a thought as it used to be. I don’t know if it’s because I’m out now, or what. But, I’m ready.”
They shared a smile. Phil leaned forward slightly and kissed Dan on the nose before he grabbed his glasses and got out of bed. Dan sat up and turned on the bedside light, both to see what Phil was doing and to make sure he didn’t trip on anything, which was bound to happen in the dark.
“What are you doing?” Dan asked, squinting as his eyes adjusted to the light.
Phil walked over to the corner of the room where the boxes and suitcases were.
“Something that I didn’t do six years ago,” he said as he took the ring box from the suitcase.
Dan’s heart started to race as Phil sat next to him in bed. Phil gave him a reassuring smile.
“Dan, Daniel, Bear, Danis, Danny Fire…”
He was trying to look annoyed, but he couldn’t fight the smile on his face.
“We’re not even married and I already want a divorce,” he joked.
Phil threw his head back and laughed, his tongue peeking out between his teeth. It took him a few seconds to compose himself again.
“Remember when we went to Portugal and we walked along the beach on our first night there? It was dark, and the moon was almost full, and we were the only ones there.”
Dan remembered that trip vividly. They had been together for about seven months at that point, and it was the first time the two of them went on vacation. Their few days there were spent at the beach, walking around the town, and in the hotel pool. He thought back on that trip with a lot of fondness. They were so young and so incredibly in love.
“There wasn’t anything particularly special about that, except that’s when I knew that you were it for me. That was the moment I realized I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you.
“Being with you has been my greatest adventure. Between first seeing you at the train station, to moving to London, to doing two tours, I wouldn’t want to do this with anyone else, and I can’t wait to see what other adventures the rest of our lives will bring.” Phil reached to his side and picked up the ring box, presenting the ring to Dan. “Will you marry me?”
“Yes,” Dan nodded, before leaning forward and kissing him. “Yes, I’ll marry you.”
Phil took the ring out of the box and slid the ring onto Dan’s finger. After all of these years, Dan was shocked that it fit perfectly. He looked down at his hand with a huge smile on his face.
He was going to marry Phil Lester. And he couldn’t wait.

Good morning! I hope you slept well and feel rested? Currently sitting at my desk, in my study, attired only in my blue towelling robe, enjoying my first cuppa of the day. Welcome to the working week although, for those of you in the NHS, welcome to just another day!
The weekend did NOT get off to a good start. As I was going to the recycling centre, The Trouble suggested I take the Christmas tree. It was difficult to argue with her. As she begin to remove her elaborate, 2022 Christmas tree design, I shed a few tears. My Christmas holiday is over. Back to life; back to reality. I’m sure those lyrics are meant to be positive words but, at that moment, I was like, “F*ck reality! Gimme Christmas all over again.” With hindsight, we REALLY got it right this year! The Christmas holiday ended-up being an action-packed and truly memorable four weeks. Getting the holiday right makes the new year even more promising!
Now comes the new, healthy regime! The Trouble, my son and I have changed a few things. People love coming to our house because it’s always full of goodies. Sorry, folks, no more! From now on, my weekly shop will NOT contain crisps, snacks, biscuits, chocolate and bread. That fact alone is BIG! And we will NOT be buying any more chips to accompany our evening meal. I’ve told them, “Salad, vegetables and fruit!” However, we’re not stupid. We’re not going to starve ourselves. We work hard and we need fuel, so we’ll be eating meals, just much healthier meals.
The next paragraph is a bit graphic so, if you’ve got a queasy stomach, skip it!
I don’t know if this refers to YOU or the person you live with but, when you pass wind, how does it smell? Is there someone in your abode that sits down for a Number Two and literally stinks out the house? With a healthy diet, you should NOT have to live in a toxic environment. If you do, your household is eating too much fast food, too much junk food and too much processed food. As you may or may not know, I’ve started substituting cups of coffee with Green Tea. It tastes horrible but one of the big benefits of Green Tea is that it cleans your gut! I’m sure you catch my drift.
On Sunday, The Trouble cooked-up a delicious, traditional Sunday dinner (salt fish fritters for starters, followed by rice & peas, stewed chicken, jerk chicken, macaroni cheese, plantain and roast potatoes) and we broke open two bottles of bubbly. And, yes, this was a CHEAT DAY! Despite the appalling weather conditions, our brilliant and beautiful guests enjoyed their meal and 2023 Dinner Party No. 2 went off well!
Social Media Update: Instagram is still overflowing with the most blatant scammers and hackers. No, I will NOT be following you. And it looks like Tumblr has contracted the same disease. Countless bogus accounts following me (literally) every day. No, I will NOT be following you. Go away!
Many thanks to everyone that listened to the show on Saturday afternoon, and many thanks to those that will listen to any part of it on Mixcloud. Della Duncan did a great job, didn’t she? This coming Saturday is The Letter L (Pt. 2). Executive Producer: pint-sized, power-packed Sharon Newton.
Have a marvellous and momentous Monday. I love you all.
