Hello, I have a question about combat roleplaying. Is there anyway to counter someone trying to wipe your character from existence? I have a character whos high 1-A, just wondering.

I cannot tell you how wild of an ask this is because of how much of it must be entirely contextual to your current situation. A-1 means nothing to me, this isn't a universal term in RP, but after some looking around it seems to be a categorization used in the vsBattle fandom to allow people to rank character power stats against each other like classes of heavyweight versus lightweight. And it seems to have been very thought out by a bunch of people who are very very serious about it, so it's a well-thought out thing. So, I'm assuming if this is the right power ranking to go off, your character is an "High Outerverse level" character similar to God/Death in some series.

Whew, back in my day we just had Marvel Mutants being Omega class, or Naruto Ninjas being S-Rank... Looks like you're in somewhere with a lot more math and intensity than I'm used to considering I just had to read "structures with a number of dimensions equal to the cardinal aleph-2" with my own two delicate innocent baby boy eyes. This means whatever advice I am about to give you is unlikely to be useful, but fuck it, I'm game.

So, you're getting wiped out of existence...

Your character is, as far as I can tell, able to manipulate all of existence, including every multiverse, hyperverse, and whatever-the-fuck-have-you because they can fuck with but infinity times infinity, except they're a step below the ultimate Boundless, and one step above the guy who can mess with infinity times three. Really getting back to the playground "infinity plus one" argument. You must be going up against someone who is going a little faster than you or doing better than you to have them cockblock your entire existence. I think I have the scenario broken down for more feeble minds like me can figure out what the hell this means.

Logically, the answer is you can't do shit. Guy is faster/better/more tactically sound, so he wins. He's managed to outdo you on every level, and made your existence just stop, you can no longer be who you are, you're a never-was similar to Cul from the Thor comics. Absolutely buckshit wild stuff here. This suggests to survive, someone has to remember you, which may be a way through if there's space where you still exist while you don't exist. How does time work in your universe? What's the standards here for how to change existence? Is there a ripple effect, or is it impossible to change the timeline? Are you forced into an alternate universe where you DID exist, and how is the other guy handling the obvious issue that if you never existed, he would never have gone back to erase you, and shit— we've got either a figure eight loop forcing us to repeat these two states of 0 and 1 endlessly, or a paradox.

So go for the throat, make them explain the paradox. Make them fix the paradox, which can paradoxically never be fixed because that's what them boyes do. You might have to live one step ahead of them in only alternating universes for the rest of existence and be satisfied with that. Or, I suppose, find someone bigger and stronger than old Jokey-poo here who is putting you in the un-birth grave, and have them de-powered or something to end the rigamarole. Maybe you have a good trap for them set-up where the state of your birth is a fixed point, and them entering it makes time stop entirely so they can never reach the point at which they actually delete you.

But this is all just Watsonian fuckery, stuff from within the perspective of the story. If you go Doyalist, we can ask the question "What kills a vampire?" and come up with the answer "Whatever satisfies the narrative." because those blood thirsty bitches be fictional. This is all fictional. You are imagining a story. The only truth of a story is the satisfaction of those who write/read it.

Therefore, if you are happy with the end of your character, and you feel like it's been given weight and meaning, and you like the outcome. You win, you finished the story, they are gone.

If you are unhappy, you can make up whatever bullshit you want because it's all in your head anyways, and suddenly your character survived going over the falls due to some vague handwaved plot point far in the misty difference that is really an in-universe cover to 'they made me write Sherlock after the Reichenbach Falls was supposed to be the end of the damn serial'. It all comes down to what you're happy with as a player and a writer.

You think any Shonen writer had the good sense to end their series after the bad guy seemed all-powerful? Absolutely not, these other guys had trickery and even more power beyond the power that is infinite power to call on, and they sure did win because they said so. Same thing here. As long as no one is upset, you can do whatever you want. "Blue fairy said I could come back." "Some Boundless Character found me beyond the universes and pulled me back into this world." Seriously, make shit up, it's all you've been doing anyways.

I recognize at this point it's more of a thought experiment, kind of a highbrow push against the mundane realities of our existence. It's where philosophy meets story. Making something that really sticks to the bones of your story, and gives you something to work off can be a huge ask when it gets to these extremes. You're working with a framework outside our actual existence, a thing we can comprehend only because we've pushed so hard against the limitations of this world we've given concepts like infinity not only a limit, but a word for when that limit is breached and repeated.

Being able to truly understand what you're asking, and whether there's any rules to it is more than a simple roleplay help blog can give you. You're bending rules that aren't even confirmed to exist, that have been developed to create a framework by which people can enjoy fighting tiers to simplify things that are wildly imaginative and unusual. Certainly you are at the moment asking me if I can conceive of a situation in which literally Death themself, if they were a character, could be erased from existence by something just as powerful or even more powerful than themselves, and then get around that somehow. It's mythical. It's entirely a toy that you, yourself, are defining the rules for play with. I can simply say "this Roleplaying Blog is actually a Boundless level character and has rebuffed that attack" and it would be equally true because the canon of this blog now says so.

So you can do whatever works for you.

Just make sure it's satisfying, so you can do it again next week and relish it all over. The point of RP is to be fun. Keep having fun. You do you, in whatever style makes you happy. Even if it's a lot of math and now I know there's a term for approaching the infinity after Real numbers run out of integers because someone made their character so powerful they ran out of numbers for them and somehow this is the same power level as Those Who Sit Above In Shadow, which means Loki's punked their ass plenty of times in-comics by saying he's the Storyteller who tells them into existence anyways. God damn Beyonder ass...

But you're the Storyteller now, so write something true to your heart, and see how far you can take it. See if your character can manage to break reality one more time, and level up to becoming Boundless themselves. You have the power, because that power is imagination. The true Boundless power.

This came to me in a fever dream. It's the crossover one asked for but I needed and so here I proudly present: Naruto x Inglorious Basterds.

AU! Alternative Universe / Cannon Divergence - where Konoha decides to invade the Village of the Sound after Orochimaru's attack and murder of the Third Hokage. The new Hokage assigns Shikamaru Nara a vital mission: gather the rookies of his generation, infiltrate de Country of Rice and kill every soundling they can get their hands on.

It's my first time posting a fic and I'm not a native English speaker, so I'm sorry in advance if some typos eluded me jajaj

It came to me in a flash of shitposting inspiration. If there is interest - or if I'm once again hit with inspiration - I could continue this project.

After the attack on Honoha and the murder of the Third Hokage, a war council was summoned with the heads of Konohagakure’s Clans. They argued for a while before deciding that the best course of action was to unleash a massive shinobi attack on the Hidden Village of the Sound in a combined strike with the forces of the Hidden Village among the Sands - their clan heads were also pissed off by the former’s Kazekage's Souplantation. The objective was to destroy Orochimaru’s labs and headquarters when the former Sannin was still weak from his fight with the Third.

The Jonin forces received orders to begin the preparations for the incoming invasion but, after Konoha’s attack, the village was in need of ninja soldiers. A war - unfortunately - needs soldiers to fight it.

The newly elected Hokage had that in mind when she charged Shikamaru Nara, the only chunin of his generation, with a very delicate mission.

The “Rookie 11”, as one day they will be remembered, gathered a couple of minutes before the break of dawn. Team 10 was the first to arrive, followed closely by Team Guy. Team 8 came almost last, followed by Sakura - the only other member of Team 8 remaining. Kiba and Akamaru were yawning, seemingly having stepped out of his bed not very long ago. Others, meanwhile, looked like they hadn’t slept at all.

They line up in front of Shikamaru, whose flashy new chunin’s flak jacket is only overshadowed by his thousand yards stare. Behind him was the “No. 1 Unpredictable Ninja” himself, Naruto Uzumaki, who appeared weirdly cheered up.

ー I can’t believe I’m actually doing this ー Shikamaru confesses to his unofficial second-in-command.

ー Come on! It’s going to be great. Believe it!

Naruto’s confident smile somehow made Shikamaru feel worst. He knew that the orange ninja wasn’t excited about the message of his speech, but they needed to give it nonetheless. There were tough times ahead.

ー If it makes you feel better… ー Shikamaru sighed before marching towards the line.

He cleared his throat and the little murmur in the crow died. All eyes were on him.

ー My name is Chūnin Nara Shikamaru and I'm putting together a special team ー he began to say loudly. ー And I need me ten shinobi.

» Ten - Hot-Blooded - Leaf - Shinobi!

Among the young genin, Kiba couldn’t hold a laugh.

ー We all know who you are, Shikamaru. You don’t have to…

ー Now y'all might of heard rumors about the attack happening soon ー Nara continued once there was silence once again. ー Well, we'll be leaving a little earlier. We're gonna infiltrate the Country of Rice, dressed as civilians. And once we're in enemy territory, as a bushwacking, shinobi army, we’re gonna be doing one thing, and thing only…

A slight jab in his ribs by Shino got his attention. The shinobi of Clan Aburame slowly lift up his finger to his mouth, telling him to shut up. Annoyed at first, he soon looked around an noticed that all his former classmates were dead quiet. Even Naruto, the class clown, couldn’t hide his fear behind his smile.

» Killing Soundlings.

The word made echoes through the formation. ‘Soundlings’ was how the village had begun to call the ninjas of the sound after the battle. A deep hatred had invaded Konoha’s heart, a hatred that filled the war cries.

ー The Village Hidden in the Sound orchestrated an attack on our village and convinced one of our own to leave through murder, torture, intimidation, and terror ー Sakura couldn’t keep his eyes up as Shikamaru’s mentioned Sasuke. He abandoned the village just two days before this gathering and the chances of getting him back were really slim. Shikamaru felt her sadness and caught her gaze. ー And that's exactly why our job is to pay them in kind.

They couldn’t be surprised. This was what they were trained to do after all: fight as ninjas against the enemies of the Village.

ー Now, I don't know about y'all… But I sure as hell didn't survive the goddamn Chunin Exam, cross five thousand miles of deadly forest, fight my way through half the Land of Fire, and then infiltrate the snake’s den to teach the soundlings lessons in humanity.

» Soundlings ain't got no humanity! They’re the foot soldiers of a snake-faced, mass-murdering maniac, and they need to be destroyed.

The way he said it, so matter of fact, startled the genin. But at the same time, he was speaking out loud the feelings most of them kept in their heart.

ー That's why any and every son-of-a-bitch we find wearing a sound headband, they're gonna die. ー The headbands on their foreheads grew heavy. Wearing them was an oath: you became a shinobi of the Leaf; your priorities were placed first in the village, then your Clan, and finally in your friends.

» Now, I’m a member of Clan Nara. It means I have an affinity with shadows. And our battle plan will be that of an unseen shinobi.

Shikamaru’s voice dropped lower, his tone darker.

ー We will be cruel to the Soundlings, and through our cruelty, they will know who we are. They will find the evidence of our cruelty, in the disembowed, dismembered, and disfigured bodies of their brothers we leave behind us. And the Soundlings will not be able to help themselves from imagining the cruelty their brothers endured at our hands, and our boot heels, and the edge of our knives.

» And the Soundlings will be sickened by us.

» And the Soundlings will talk about us.

» And the Soundlings will fear us.

» And when the Soundlings close their eyes at night, and their subconscious tortures them for the evil they’ve done, it will be with thoughts of us, that it tortures them with.

Shikamaru stopped pacing and looked at everybody. The time of truth came.

ー Sound good?

There was only a brief moment of doubt before the place was filled with a roaring reply;

ー YES, SIR!

The truth was, they had reasons to be angry. Most of them lost people in the invasion or had encounters with them themselves. They saw the destruction, the cruelty of Orochimaru, and the corruption of their friend. It was too much even for a gentle heart.

ー That's what I like to hear ー Nara began to pace again, a small smile curled on his lipsー But I got a word of warning to all would-be shinobi. When you join my command, you take on debit. A debt you owe me, personally.

» Each and every man and woman under my command owes me one hundred soundlings headbands. And I want my headbands. And all y'all will get me one hundred soundlings headbands taken from the heads of one hundred dead soundlings…

Shikamaru stopped and briefly scanned the look of determination on their faces before finally adding;

» Or you will die trying.

Shikamaru finally understood his Sensei’s desire to smoke. It was a real bother to lead. But he was the only one that could. He understood his companions’ anger, maybe better than anyone else. Beyond their specific Team mission, most of them were inexperienced and untested on the battlefield. If they were going to war, they couldn’t view the enemy as a human being, but as less than.

It’s the only way to make sure most of them survive.

Oh thank you anon! This is a super cute request! Both of these are going to be written when they characters are in their early twenties so right before Naruto for Kakashi and right after Shippuden for Shikamaru

Kakashi gets it- he was protective over Rin (and eventually is protective of Sakura) so he understands it comes from a good place and he's actually happy his partner has so many people who love her

You would think being one of the Leaf's most elite ninjas would be enough to instill a little trust, though. Then again people do call him "Friend Killer Kakashi"

Definitely turns to Iruka for help, and Iruka tells him to de-ninjafy himself in front of them and be as non-threatening as possible. Look as little like a killer as possible.

Kakashi thought he was already pretty non-threatening but when he asked Kurenai for advice, she said the same thing. She also told him to lose the porn books.

So Kakashi goes home "de-ninjafys" himself, begrudgingly so. Reminding himself how much he loves his partner every two seconds

Replacing the headband with an eye patch wears a nice shirt and pants instead of his jonin uniform and decided to only keep one kunai and scroll on him.

The mask stays, though, obviously.

He has a couple of uncomfortable dinners with her family like this. Uncomfortable because he is not convinced that they're buying this act and because not being in uniform is weird for him.

But I think after a couple of visits, he starts to get more comfortable and casual. Maybe a few times he forgets to change his headband or has to rush from a mission and is still wearing his vest, so he feels a bit more in his element.

What ultimately happens is they just get to know Kakashi. It might take a while, but once people get to know Kakashi, it doesn't take long to realize he isn't some cold-blooded killer, he's just a guy.

Eventually, I think he'd win them over and even becomes friends with them. Kakashi would never admit this, but he's always wanted a family.

Shikamaru

What a drag

He's dating his girlfriend, not her brothers- why should he care what they think of him? Does he really have to win them over?

It would be moments like this where he really misses Asuma and his father, which just makes the situation harder.

I actually think it'd make him question if he was good enough for his partner.

But ultimately, he decides that's her call to make, not his, so with a big sigh, he gets up and tries to smooth things over.

Her brothers probably just think he's some lazy slacker whose only claim to fame was being in the same class as Naruto.

He isn't entirely sure how to disprove that, so he does the only thing that seems logical- show not tell.

Since the end of the war, he had been working under Kakashi with all the Leaf's non-military expansions, and he's actually pretty proud of his work. The train that connects the villages, trade deals, humanitarian projects who the areas affected by the war, and Sakura's mental hospital for orphans- so he invites his girl and her brothers to a fundraising event.

Usually, he hates these things, but he's gonna get all dressed up and show her brothers that he's just trying to make the world a better place for her to live in, and if that doesn't work, he isn't sure what will.

Kakashi definitely catches wind of this plan and makes sure everyone hypes Shikamaru up the entire evening in front of his girlfriend's family.

And sure- the brothers are impressed, they didn't realize the scope of Shikamaru's work, but ultimately that wasn't what won them over.

After dinner, there was dancing, and even though Shikamaru hates dancing, his girlfriend doesn't, so he very sweetly asked her to dance, and the brothers couldn't help but notice the giant smile on her face the entire time.

(I would die for this fic. I know the summary sounds doom and gloom but IT'S NOT. This fic made me fucking cry, I don't think I've ever read a fic that characterized Naruto so right. He's so full of hope and love and develops into the best version of himself and I'm so HERE FOR IT. And it's not just Naruto, Shikamaru is absolutely amazing here along with Kakashi and surprise surprise Ino, I can't BELIEVE it took me this long to stumble across this fic. (Same author as the one above, they are the gift that keeps on giving. Seriously, HOW did I NEVER FIND THESE FICS before now??? One of life's greatest mysteries. The author's sense of humor is so on point here along with the atmospheric writing that's so vivid in the mind. Their writing style is so recognizable to me now and makes me fall into the world they're creating, it's stunning. Sasuke here makes me want to hug him and the idea of him living like a feral ghibli character has me LIVING. Check the tags of the fic, all of it is true, hand to god. (Sasuke wanting to change the future out of complete and utter spite has me LIVING. Sasuke is such a Mess here and the twist on the time travel premise is so good and the kid is so Traumatized and Desperate and Not Having A Good Time. Naruto and Sakura developing as better ninjas and Kakashi trying his best makes me want to scream. Also, how Sasuke thinks about Itachi makes me want to cackle. I am 100% down for this. I am rooting for this kid, go get them! XD)

Oh, and he's already lived a previous life, in a world where quirks and heroes didn't even exist.

Not a big deal, though. It's not like you ever see the janitor playing a big part in action movies. He's here to get paid, and that's it.

On the opposite side of the equation, class 1-A has to wonder at the new UA cryptid that always seems to show up when things are on fire, and who keeps trying to convince them to let the adults handle the fire extinguisher.

(Katsuki broke him. Snapped him in half like a twig and now has to scramble to put Deku back together. “We can do this, Deku," he says slowly. "There are so many mysteries that never got put to bed. Criminals roaming around looking to hurt people and you and me, we can fix that.”

There’s a long pause. The comforter slips a little off Deku’s skinny shoulders and drowns him. “You mean like a team?”

In that split second, Katsuki makes a decision he’s never even considered. He swallows his pride. “Yeah, Deku. We’d be a team.”)

(If there was any other way canon could've gone, this is the story I would've wanted. It's perfect.)

Billy laughs then, loud and long and unhinged. It's the only sound in the whole house, and it bounces off the walls like a fucked up echo, like the world is laughing with him.

“Jesus christ you’re insane…” It’s Max’s voice and it’s shaking. It only makes Billy laugh harder, because Max has it all wrong. Billy isn’t crazy, it’s the rest of the world that’s insane.

(Billy is stuck in a time loop and it's slowly driving him crazy. And the fic shows just how much influence Billy did have in the plot and how doomed the world is without him in it. Great character exploration with Billy's character and all the ways he's so messy and human. Definitely recommend it!)

(It's just!! So cute and wholesome!!! The Shiratorizawa volleyball team is so fleshed out along with the OC characters for the girl's soccer team and I swear, it's been a long while since I've laughed this much at the sheer shenanigans that happen in a fic. It's surprisingly hard to find good gen fics in this fandom so finding this gem made me so happy! If you want a fic that brings a smile to your face, read this!!)

And the fic does that thing, you know, the Thing where when two worlds collide, the characters struggle to acclimate and adapt to a completely another world with different rules and mindsets against their own. This fic is seriously one of the best when it comes to that aspect, it's incredible. I am going absolutely feral over here for this fic to update, I'm waiting in the wings, ready to pounce like a tiger, all the metaphors man. For the love of god, read this fic.)

(Before this fic, I only had a very vague idea of what Natsume's Book of Friends was, and honestly, I still don't know much about it. But I didn't really need to know to get into this fic. I love the worldbuilding and the relationships Kakashi forms, both supernatural and mortal. I love how Kakashi's inhumane ways affect others around him, whether to stress them out or become used to the strange. You can go straight into this fic without knowing anything and absolutely still have a fantastic time. I definitely recommend this so please read!)

Metal Lee and Rock Lee appreciation post  (things that i notice and things that i want to see)

because i'm so done that all in the anime and i'm saying All (including the writers) put them aside. And i'm gonna put some things that i think straight up. 

first i wanna start with Metal’s skills. I MEAN LOOK AT THIS!! Metal has more strength in one hand that Boruto has making the Boruto stream! that's what we can notice in the episode where he goes mad. and i’m just not gonna put him as the strongest child in the generation just for ONE and only ONE child that is Sarada, that come to thing on it, i hope that her strength is for training by herself and not for “she's the daughter of sakura” i swear i almost scream when in the anime they say so, Sarada deserves becoming stronger by her own hand equal as she opened the sharingan by her own.

another point of Metal is this! those were not just one kunai, he stopped eight ninja star on bare hand. that shows that he have the reflex, the speed and the coordination of a shinobi. Jus look at his face of “please bitch”. For this only scene that i saw i thought that Lee had a rivalry with sarada on the academy. Come to think of it...

i think that a lot of people forget but i don’t! LEE IS LEVELS ABOVE THE OTHER STUDENTS (that´s obvious) but i mean even from the other protagonist characters like Inojin, Chouchou, Sumire, Denki, Wasabi, for sometime of Shikadai (that this comes in) and i'm gonna include the sassy blondie here and the rest of the class, for some exceptions, as Mitsuki and competing with Sarada (again amazing me that this two aren’t rivals). But it appears that the writers forget always this: METAL HAS BEEN TRAINING FOR HIS WHOLE LIFE and yet he lost in 1 minute in the chunin exams at the teams fight and shikadai trains just WEEKS before the exams and gets to the finales and also put in another level his dad’s jutsu?!? WHAT?! 

I mean what was the fricking rush?! recycling the whole movie? They just lost a great opportunity, i mean it was a fight of Metal Lee, son of ROCK FRICKING LEE, and Shinki, son of SABAKU NO FUCKING GAARA, who i don´t know if you all know, but in their Chunnin Exams they had the most epic fight . ( I remember when i was in primary school and  i enter the Naruto anime when the Chunnnin individual fights were on the middle, and Gaara and Rock Lee fight on CN was starting, and when Lee take out his weights that was a moment that it is still print on my memory) AND NOBODY TALKS ABOUT THAT neither the public and the shinobis that were there! Didn’t Gaara mentioned to Shinki the boy he broke the arm and leg and almost ruins his ninja future? the one who forgive him and became one of his first friends?

the point that i like from this moments was when in boruto´s movie, shinki shocked face when Metal kick the hell out of his puppet and then again in the anime, in the 1 minute of the fight that we saw, Metal was the last standing and even with his knuckles bleeding he said that he's just starting, that was pretty great, but all ends when shinki took the flag without ending the fight (i just hope that he didn't think Metal is a waste of time). I think that lee could have done a great job in the finales but he´s team, that’s my net point.

What the hell with Metal´s team?! the writers just put extra weight on Metal´s shoulders, and i meant it, yes, Iwabe is a “good fighter” but he's a hot head: he has disobeyed orders 

(bonus that in that Metal´s ended up being hurt. EXTRA points to Metal that he ACTUALLY reacts in danger)

and in just one messed up in a mission he wants to give up in something that he has being searching for a long time (becoming a ninja) (EXTRA points to Lee that convince him of becoming literally a traitor). You can’t just put characters THAT DIDN'T EXIST IN THE MANGA with a principal a character that just make of that character just another extra, and even making them the worst team (at least in the team of Sumire the three actually do something).  And yes METAL HAS ANXIETY but in the serious moments he's always in place of act like a real shinobi and we´re seen him controlling it (on his own way). 

i would like to put a parenthesis here to talk about something that it's bothering me a lot. The way of all the other kids and the writers themselves use Metal´s anxiety as a joke or for making fail. That for me is not even nearly funny, i had anxiety, and thinking of someone reminding me every time they can something that i´m fighting against don´t make me laugh. I remember the episode we’re girls and boys were competing and in not once but TWO times someone use his anxiety to make an advantage. That was the worst. 

A theory that i have is that Metal´s has eyebacks for insomnia, not as deep as Gaara’s but he had they.

TURNING BACK TO THE POINT i was hoping to see Metal´s team from the movie were the other kids are using the iconic green spandex of YOUTH, because that made me thing that Metal was the leader and also that Rock Lee have become a Famous sensei. that let me to two other points.

1) When kakashi goes and interview all the class, in MY OPINION, Lee was the only boy who was ensure on the ninja’s path and really shows it. Yeah Boruto said that he wanted to become a shinobi better than his father, but then happens all of the cheating soo...  Lee for the contrary says that he wants to become strong as his dad, Metal knows what his that it's capable and know the effort that he needs to make it true and he’s already doin it. Kakashi had to put everyone on the same level for the exam’s objective. But from all i tell you, Metal is the one who truly is making a great ninja path: he shows strength, ability, skills, goals of being better and helping his team to being better (even if his team sucks), he shows determination and a passion of what Gai, his father and the generation before his had made. he’s the legacy that the Gai, Tenten, Neji and Tenten’s team left, he is just starting clearly, but it shows a bright path of youth.

2) Lee has a Doje that it's not specialise in just shinobis, it's for everyone, taijutsu is for everyone and lee has accomplished his goal of leading people for the path, making merch ang hopefully buying Tenten´s merch.

but something that i don't forgive is the situation with Metal´s mother, i mean WTFH?! what’s that stupid thing of “we haven't designed her yet”? You mean you design characters that didn't need to exist, but you don’t make the wife of one of the 12 of Konoha?! My Top Ten Anime, a chaotic list

This was so hecking difficult, I’m gonna have to do some ‘honourable mentions’ for ones I can’t bring myself to leave out. This list is based entirely on my personal feelings, not an objective assessment of what are logically the best anime. There also may be mild spoilers at points because I can’t control myself. Doing this in quarantine cause I looove ranting about things I like.

10) Attack On Titan

This was the first anime I ever watched, and it blew my mind a bit tbh. The music is iconic, and the animation is great as well. It might have been a bit harrowing for my first experience with anime, but I absolutely loved the story. It’s set in a world where titans (man eating giants) have driven the dregs of humanity to live within giant stone walls. There’s a group of humans trying to research titans, kill them, and protect humanity, and the main character decides to join them after a titan breaks through one of the walls and his mother is eaten. It’s one of those where you think you know everything and suddenly the world gets turned upside down by a new discovery. All the puzzle pieces start fitting together the longer you watch, and you find out that everything going on is much bigger than what it originally seemed (government conspiracy time lads). The plot twists are unpredictable (for me at least) and devastating, and the emotion this series evokes is awesome - you can FEEL the sheer desperation of the characters, their rage and despair as they fight again and again against a seemingly unending enemy. Despite almost every battle being a suicide mission and despite too many losses, the characters keep going out of the human need to survive and protect. 

10/10 for brutality and gore, but also theme of hope.

9) Naruto

A founding father of anime. Surprisingly not one of the first I watched, in fact it took me a few years to start. It’s set in a feudal Japan where ninjas are the defenders and servers of the people, and different villages have different ninja styles. Naruto is a young boy with a dangerous spirit sealed inside him which has caused him to be shunned by society (even though it’s not his fault??), and he wants to become a ninja. First off I’m a sucker for the Naruto archetype: dumbass, cocky, obnoxious, but kind and loyal too. Years of solitude and ostracisation as a child mean that Naruto desperately wants people to acknowledge him, and he intends to become the Hokage to prove himself. There’s a huge range of characters and villains, all with cool ninjutsus and different philosophies. Friendship, power, and determination are some of the main themes and it makes me so proud to see my son *COUGH* Naruto progressing and learning from his mistakes. It IS a long boi though and I haven’t even finished Shippuden yet, but I think Naruto captures the essence of shounen anime and is a great underdog story. Manga is lit too. 

10/10 for cool battles and great characters.

8) Psycho Pass

One of the earlier anime I watched, and it became an instant favourite for the way it makes you question morality. It’s set in a kinda dystopian future Japan, where a technology called the Sibyl System checks people’s mental state and determines their ‘crime coefficient’ - how likely they are to commit a crime. The main character is a young woman who joins the police and begins to realise that blindly following this system is perhaps not the best way to go about things. For example, they have special guns that automatically kill people whose crime coefficients are over a certain level, but she soon proves that you can easily lower someone’s coefficient by talking them down and negotiating instead of killing them off immediately. It’s got great drama, great government conspiracy, compelling villains, and some really badass characters. It pushes the question of what is right or wrong, and how far technology should go when it comes to justice. 

10/10 for sociological debate and horror elements.

7) One Punch Man

OPM is an anime that stands out for me, partially for mocking the tropes of battle anime, and partially for the uniqueness of the main character’s predicament. It’s set in Japan where heroes and villains exist, and the protagonist is a man called Saitama who gained superstrength after doing 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 squats, and a 10K run every day. However he’s become so strong that he can defeat every enemy with a single punch. Nothing is a challenge for him anymore so he becomes depressed and unfulfilled; he’s still a good man who helps people, but he feels he’s missing something from his life. A cyborg called Genos makes Saitama his master, determined to learn his ways and they become friends. It’s one of the first anime that made me laugh out loud; it’s funny and entertaining, but also shows us that power is not equal to happiness. 

10/10 for moral lessons and good jokes.

6) Tanaka-kun is Always Listless

The only slice of life anime on this list and not very well known, however it has a special place in my heart. The main character Tanaka is a boy who dozes off constantly and acts exhausted when awake; he loves expending as little energy as possible. His best friend Ohta looks out for him and essentially makes sure he doesn’t get lost/ be late/die on a daily basis, including carrying him when he just falls asleep sometimes. Although Tanaka seems uncaring, it’s shown that friendship isn’t a bother to him, and he realises that he actually relies on his friends despite saying he likes being left in peace. His friends all have great personalities, my personal faves are a tough gangster girl who’s rude to everyone EXCEPT her adorable loli girlfriend, and a popular girl who’s trying too hard to fit in and starts to become more herself after befriending Tanaka. All the characters share one brain cell, and it’s genuinely a funny anime - I’ve burst out laughing watching it a few times. Also Tanaka and Ohta are extremely shippable if you want to go down that route; it’s said several times in the series that they’re like an old married couple. 

10/10 for wholesomeness and comedy.

5) Ouran High School Host Club

Another lighthearted show, probably the anime that’s made me laugh the most out of any. It’s set at an academy for rich-as-heck kids, and there’s a ‘Host Club’ where all the girls go to drink tea with a group of handsome boys. There’s the cunning Kyouka, prankster identical twins Hikaru and Kaoru, stoic Mori, adorable Honey, and princely but obnoxious Tamaki. Haruhi, a working-class scholarship student who is mistaken for a boy, accidentally breaks a precious vase and is forced by the host club to join them to pay off her debt. The group of boys realise fairly quickly that haruhi is a girl, but she becomes a popular host amongst the girls (LOVE the secret lesbian vibes) so they keep up the charade. I think I have a weakness for groups that share one brain cell because aside from Kyouka, they’re all idiots. I also love how flexible the show is with ideas of gender and sexuality despite being a slightly older anime. The daily antics of the host club combined with their personalities is a recipe for comedy, and they’re all lovable in their own ways. 

10/10 for characters, drama, and comedy; it’s well-paced too.

4) Bungou Stray Dogs

Set in an alternate modern Japan where some people have secret abilities that can be activated, this anime became an obsession when I first watched it. The cast of characters is amazing and the villains are awesome too. Atsushi is an orphan who discovers he can turn into a powerful tiger, and is hired by the Armed Detective Agency, a small organisation of powerful individuals who fight crime. NEED I SAY ANY MORE?? Many of the main characters share names with famous Japanese authors such as Osamu Dazai and Ryūnosuke Akutagawa which is really cool and something that might add to the story more if I had an understanding of Japanese literature. Anyways the main character Atsushi is kind of a wimp at first (understandably because the world of ability-users is actually terrifying), but he learns to stand up for himself and use his ability to save people. The show’s mixing of dark and comedic tones is perfect to me; one moment a character is off his head on mushrooms and the next Atsushi’s leg is brutally sliced off in a back alley fight (it regenerates later no worries). The plot is really cool and full of intrigue, and eventually you get the whole ‘Usually we’re sworn enemies but we’re forced to become allies in the face of a greater evil’ thing and it’s great! Turns out our main guy and our main bad guy are actually a pretty powerful and efficient team, hoho?? 

10/10 for supernatural detectives being super cool.

3) Yuri!!! on Ice

Y’all already know what’s going on. Ice skating, emotional breakthroughs, gay shit, HIT ME WITH IT. The story follows Yuri Katsuki, an insecure figure skater trying to regain his confidence, and his self-appointed coach Viktor Nikiforov. Viktor is enthusiastic in helping Yuri train, and Yuri has been a big fan of Viktor since his childhood *throws pillow across the room*. Yuri becomes determined to, quote, “surpass Viktor’s wildest imagination”, and they end up agreeing - through a series of convoluted events - to get married if Yuri wins gold at the olympics (I think it’s the olympics??). Either fuckin way this series has angst, humour, cuteness, and god DAMN did I get invested. When Yuri was doing his free skate my own heart was beating harder than it did when I finished a 10K. Love the vibes and also it’s the closest to full healthy gay representation that I’ve seen in anime for a while. Not much more I can say, but do I really need to say more???

10/10 for GAY and MY HEART

2) Kimetsu No Yaiba (Demon Slayer)

Ok this one’s kind of a cheat cause I’ve read the manga as well which is way ahead of the anime, but FUCC. It takes place in the Taisho Era in Japan (begins 1912), where Demons exist who eat people. Tanjiro Kamado’s family is killed by a demon one night and his sister Nezuko is turned into a demon - but it is soon discovered she’s different to other demons, and can restrain herself. Tanjiro joins the Demon Slayer Corps to try and track down a cure for his sister, while proving that demons are not inherently evil. I LOVE Tanjiro as a main character because he values kindness over everything else, not forgiving demons for their sins but recognising they are tormented creatures, trying to give them peace before they die. All demons were once human - a fact that only Tanjiro seems to remember when fighting them. He’s patient, gentle, and determined - hotheaded and brash sometimes, but he has this vibe that just makes people become his friend/respect him even if they don’t intend to. He befriends two other slayers - Inosuke, an absolutely feral Best Boy who was raised by wild boars, and Zenitsu, a cowardly but ultimately loyal guy. This trio works really well together and Tanjiro is a great protagonist. Don’t even get me STARTED on the music and animation. Impeccable. Kamado Tanjiro No Uta makes me cry every time I hear it, and the water/fire effects used to show the metaphorical way the swords move like the elements takes my breath away.

10/10 for morals, music and animation.

1) Mob Psycho 100

Where the fuck do I start here. This anime is so unique in its style, story, and characters that I think it will always be my favourite. It follows Shigeo Kageyama (nicknamed Mob cause that’s what they call extras and background characters in Japan), a plain boy with incredible psychic powers that explode when his emotions are too high. Over time he’s learned to suppress his emotions, causing him to become socially inept and emotionally withdrawn. His (fake) psychic ‘master’, Reigen, uses him to make money exorcising spirits, making Mob believe that it’s for ‘training’. Mob appears naive at times, but he is so simply kind to people that it makes my heart hurt. Unlike many of the egomaniac psychics that Mob comes across, he recognises that without powers, he is just an ordinary boy. Mob’s greatest power isn’t his OP psychic abilities, but his power to show people they can change, that he can change. He forgives (and eventually befriends) people who have tried to kill him. Redemption and empathy are big themes here and they’re done really well.

The other characters are so well rounded and are also given time to grow, including Reigen - at first he’s a seemingly manipulative sleazebag, but later you see that he is a genuinely good man who has taught Mob many lessons and helped him grow up. This is a core message - Mob’s ability to change is due to support from his friends, not purely his own desire - people need other people!

This is also one of the true rarities in anime where the second season is absolutely just as good (if not better!) than the first one. The music is unique to the show, the ops for both seasons get me litty, the animation is incredible, the jokes are great and although it’s not all about big-ass fights, when we do get a big-ass fight it’s so fucking cool. The fight sequences are beautifully animated and visually stunning. MP100 makes me laugh, cry like an actual baby, and want to become a better person. Idk I could literally write pages on it like the big nerd I am but that’s all I’ll do for now.

10/10 for literally everything.

Given : about a boy who joins a band which helps him work through his trauma. Lovely healthy gay representation and themes of healing.

Samurai Champloo : ragtag trio consisting of two samurai - one lowkey feral and does breakdancing, the other lofty and withdrawn - and a bold young girl. Themes of friendship and journeys. I simp for the lofty samurai.

Cowboy Bebop: jazzy music, bounty hunters in space, 90s anime WHAT MORE COULD U WANT. Yet another group of characters that share a single brain cell. Love it.

My take on a "good" self insert and recommendations.

I am looking for self-insert fanfiction. I felt like I read all of the good ones and there are thousands of them. The problem with self insert fanfiction is that it is riddled with crack, effortless powerups, mindless fix-it, and harems. Like it was almost designed to mainly have all those qualities, sigh. I want to read self-insert fanfiction that takes itself seriously and not for it to exist to troll canon characters. More like reading a cosmically kidnapped interdimensional survival guide and less like an OP god playing with everyone's fate.

Sure the self-insert fic can have comedy, fix-it arcs, powerups, and a harem but, only as long as it's moderate and it comes through to the readers logically. Here is a quote by my favorite self-insert fanfic author, "Every fanfic is wish-fulfillment. The best written ones just make you believe it isn't."-Sir lucifer morning star.

Here are my favorite self inserts. I would like to think I have good taste but some of these recs can make me seem like a hypocrite. Some fics have the SI to be OP(basically all gamer fics) but, I felt like the premises of the self inserts play out rationally and fairly given the situation. Note that I try to avoid stories with ROBs(random omnipotent beings) because they ruin all sense of narrative causality in a story. IE-Who cares if I die in this new world. There is a confirmed afterlife. ROB will bail me out. Let me just have a fun adventure.

Naruto Self-Inserts.

Sanitize- Female SI, professional doctor reincarnated in the ninja warring clans era. Has no knowledge of Naruto. Very Slow updates.

Kaleidoscope- Male SI, reincarnated as an Uchiha. He knows the culling is coming for him and his clan he must do everything to survive it. Complete.

Son of Gato- Male Villain SI, reincarnated with the gamer powers. It has NSFW harem/wish fulfillment but does a really good job showing power levels. I am rooting for the canon characters to shut the SI down in this fanfic. Slow updates.

Walk on Moon- Female SI, Reincarnated as the yamanaka heir. Mixed feelings with this one but I felt like it deserves a recommendation because it's one of the few SIs that strive to become a S class ninja. Hiatus.

Wilted Irises- Male SI, reincarnated as the hyuga heir. It is very new with only 20k words but so far it is well-written with a constant goal in mind. Reading this you feel like you yourself are a hyuga in the self-insert's shoes. Fast updates.

Sleight Advantage- Male SI, reincarnated as an average civilian. Joining the ninja academy he must make due with his below average chakra coils so he specializes in magic misdirection. Dead.

What doesn't Kill you- Female SI, reincarnated as Orichimaru's supposed daughter. Has one of the most realistic and amazing Root induction scenes out there. I highly recommend just for this arc. Dead.

Worm Self-Inserts.

Stealing Fire- Male SI, transmigrated into brockton bay and triggered as a human biology tinker. SI makes logical decisions given the circumstances. Hiatus.

Tyrant of the Bay- Reincarnated and later triggered as an overpowered alexandria. Has alot of wish fulfilment and fix-it but it builds up to it and doesn't come out of nowhere. Dead.

Going Native- Male SI, reincarnated and later triggered with the power to rewind time a couple of seconds. Very fun shard and makes a point to rationally avoid taylor to not butterfly the plot to earth bet's doom. Dead.

Young Justice/Dc comic self inserts.

With this Ring- Male SI, transmigrated to the moon orbiting earth with an orange power ring. He proceeds to munchkin and deconstruct the dc universe. Fast updates.

Blink and you'll miss it.- Male Villain SI, transmigrated to gotham with a teleportation powerset from the movie, Jumper. Makes a name for himself. Hiatus.

Game of Thrones Self-inserts.

A lion beyond death- Male SI, bodyswapped into Jaime Lannister during the day of Mad king Aerys death. The SI does everything he can as the heir to the westerlands to prepare for the long night. Dead.

A fish out of the water- Male SI, body swapped into Edmure Tully during king Jeoffry's Rule. Has no memories of Edmure so he has to improvise names of his closest friends not covered in the show. Truly a fish out of the water.Slow updates.

In Defense of Haruno Sakura:

Refuting Anti-Sakura Arguments

Ok. So these anti-Sakura arguments literally make me laugh. Read the manga! Guys seriously, this character is literally so misunderstood due to the anime studio’s disgusting misinterpretation and bias against her. I will be refuting the following using canon source material (ie the manga, databooks and hiden novels. The anime, I do not care for, it is mostly filler containing ooc moments so no, I won’t even be discussing anime only content)

I don’t understand why we’re still arguing this. It’s like the anti’s ignore all her feats because they know their fave can’t even compare. Well here are her feats

Gathered intel on Sasuke and Kabuto (Akatsuki spy)

Also, Sakura is a medic-nin. Are we forgetting the amount of lives that she saved? Are we forgetting that medics had a guideline they were meant to follow issued by Tsunade?

First clause (第一項, Daiikkō): “No medic ninja shall ever stop medical treatment until the lives of their party members have come to an end.” (「医療忍者は決して隊員の命尽きるまで治療を諦めてはならない」, “Iryō ninja wa kesshite taiin no inochi tsukeru made chiryō o akiramete wa naranai.”)

Second clause (第二項, Dainikō): “No medic ninja shall ever stand on the front lines.” (「医療忍者は決して最前線に立ってはならない」, “Iryō ninja wa kesshite saizensen ni tatte wa naranai.”)

Third clause (第三項, Daisankō): “No medic ninja shall ever die until they are the last of their platoon.” (「医療忍者は決して小隊の中で最後まで死んではならない」, “Iryō ninja wa kesshite shōtai no naka de saigo made shinde wa naranai.”)

Fourth clause (第四項, Daiyonkō): “Only those medic ninja who have mastered the Strength of a Hundred Technique of the ninja art Creation Rebirth are permitted to discard the above-mentioned laws.” (「忍法創造再生の百豪の術を極めし医療忍者のみ 上記の掟を破棄できる」, “Ninpō Sōzō Saisei no Byakugō no Jutsu o kiwameshi iryō ninja nomi, jōki no okite o haki dekiru.”)

It’s literally stated in the second clause that medic ninja were not supposed to be on the frontlines in battle, they could only disregard the system if they mastered the Strength of a Hundred Technique. It wasn’t until the war that Sakura unlocked the yin seal.

Compared to the other kunoichi in the Naruto series, Sakura has achieved so much more than the kunoichi in her generation, surpassing her own master in her teens.

“Sakura hasn’t shown anything different from her master? Hinata developed her own jutsu.” Well, put it this way. Sakura is a 17 year old in the middle of war, is she really going to be spending time developing new techniques or will she use techniques her master taught her, that she knows she can master and will work in combat. Also, when has Hinata’s lion fist ever done any serious damage? She defeated one juubi fodder? So have all the rookies in her gen. Sakura’s fist may not be anything new but it does work (multiple juubi fodder and Kaguya’s horn say hi), and in combat you have to be able to utilise your skill-set fully rather than have techniques that cannot be optimised.

“Sakura doesn’t have a tragic backstory/She’s too plain to be in the main cast.” Not everyone in this series needs a tragic backstory. Her lack of tragic backstory was evened out by her lack of skill in the beginning of the series.

Sakura was meant to be the girl who didn’t have a tragic backstory, didn’t come from a highly revered clan, or have any special circumstances. Her character is meant to show that just because you are ordinary, does not mean you can’t become extraordinary. She defied the odds and rose up to become a significant kunoichi. Sakura’s character was always about development throughout the story, she was meant to be someone who you watched grow despite her disadvantages.

 “Sakura is selfish”

When has this ever been shown in the manga? Sakura’s motivations throughout the manga are never shown to be selfish. She has always been shown with good intentions.

“Sakura broke her friendship off with Ino for Sasuke” No. If you read the manga and have basic comprehension skills, Sakura broke off her friendship with Ino in order to step out of Ino’s shadow and become her own person. Ino literally degraded her own friend by calling her a bud after she revealed her insecurities. Sakura breaking off her friendship with Ino sparked a rivalry to become the better kunoichi which Ino agreed was a good idea. Sakura putting her forehead protector in the ribbon’s spot should tell you that.

 Her confession to Naruto? Her trying to kill Sasuke? Do not forget that the entire Rookie 9 guilt-tripped her. They straight up ganged up on her, Shikamaru told her that a war may start in Sasuke’s name. Add on top of that, Sai, told her, to her face that she was hurting Naruto with her promise. Her wanting to kill Sasuke herself was to prevent Kakashi from killing his own beloved student. So excuse her for trying to prevent conflict as quick as possible. Although her actions weren’t the greatest, her intention was to prevent Naruto from getting hurt, and to prevent the war from happening because of Sasuke.

Her hugging Naruto in front of Hinata even though she knew she loved him? Sakura doesn’t owe Hinata anything. Let’s keep in mind that the two have barely interacted and that Naruto and Sakura have been through thick and thin together at this point in Part II. Her close friend just saved the village whose inhabitants include their friends, her mentor, her parents, her colleagues so it’s easy to see why she was thankful. Also, she called him rash before she hugged him, meaning that he had worried her and she was relieved he was okay from his fight. Why should she feel sorry for a platonic hug she gave to her close friend in front of someone she barely even interacted with.

 “Sakura gets too emotional”

So we’re gonna hate on a character for expressing genuine human emotions. They may be strong 2D characters who can kick anyone in this world’s ass any day, these characters are meant to be representations of actual human beings. To me, Sakura being emotional makes her relatable. Her emotion in each situation is understandable. Let’s also not forget that throughout most of Part II, her and Naruto were under immense pain and stress from Sasuke’s defection and actions. Also, many other Naruto characters such as Naruto, Sasuke, Ino, Shikamaru and Hinata have cried on the battlefield. Are we hating on those characters too for crying?

 “Sakura is abusive”

What the heck. Seriously. Her punching Naruto? It only happened like what? Two times. Her punching him in the anime is part of filler, therefore non-canon. The times in the manga, he literally said something stupid. Most friends tend to playfully hit each other. And this is a manga series, anything that happens in real life, is exaggerated upon. Honestly though, have you ever considered that if Naruto felt as if he were being abused he would’ve said/done something about it ages ago? He literally has no problem calling her out. They’re friends. Let’s also not forget that Naruto has been punched by other females including his own mother.

 “Sakura is a fangirl”

Ok. But this was when she was twelve years old. Everyone in her class was a fangirl. One of them was even a stalker. So I don’t see how this argument is a valid one when literally every single girl introduced in the beginning of the series had fangirl tendencies.

 Also, Sakura grew out of her “fangirl phase” in the Chunin Exams/Forest of Death arc, where she was willing to allow her team to get eliminated so that Naruto could retake the exams because she believed in his dream of becoming hokage. She also called Sasuke out for being a coward for not doing anything while Naruto had risked his life.

 “Sakura guilt-tripped Sasuke into a relationship”

It’s been stated in the manga by Kakashi twice that Sakura’s love for Sasuke was pure and she didn’t even need him to reciprocate her feelings. She only wanted to save him from the darkness and for the real Sasuke to come back. Also, this is Sasuke we are talking about. It would be out of character for him to be guilt-tripped much less a relationship/marriage with someone he doesn’t love. Sasuke literally calls her his wife and states that Sarada is a child born out of their love.

 “Sakura is a bad parent”

Sakura was a single mother for majority of Sarada’s life. She was balancing being a mother while also working so she can financially support her daughter. Parenting skills are often reflected on the child, and so far Sarada has been shown to be kind, polite, ambitious and mature. Things that would have to be taught by the parent. Compared to majority of those in her generation, it is clear that Sarada has been well raised by her mother as the others have been shown to be bratty, lazy or rude. In flashbacks during Gaiden, we saw a loving and affectionate Sakura as a mother, nurturing Sarada and looking after her while sick, while keeping a joyful atmosphere in their home.

 “Sakura covered up Karin/Taka.” Given that Sasuke left for his mission early, they either did not get the chance to take a family photo at the time, or, they are all with Sasuke. Sakura obviously wanted to show her daughter her father and so she had to make do with the photo from the Bingo book. Sakura probably covered up Taka as seeing them may lead Sarada to questioning her about Sasuke’s past, something that should be told by Sasuke, not Sakura.

“Sakura is a doormat”

This, to me is hilarious. Where? Sakura has been known to not take anyone’s crap. Whether it be from Naruto, Sai or Sasuke. “Sasuke you say, when has she ever-”

As previously stated during the Chunin Exams arc, she literally called Sasuke a coward for freezing up, and refusing to fight, while Naruto had taken the enemy head on, risking his life. In Chapter 699, while healing the boys, Sakura gets Sasuke to be quiet so she can concentrate as well as, contrary to what anti’s believe, got him to specify his apology.

 “Sakura is flat-chested/ugly”

Now this, is ridiculous. Are we reading the same manga? Sakura is meant to embody feminine qualities as her namesake is the cherry blossom which in Chinese culture is meant to represent female dominance and power. As well as this, Sakura has been called beautiful by multiple male characters throughout the series.

 Also, first of all, Sakura is not flat-chested. She has repeatedly been shown to have curves in multiple drawings by Kishimoto, her being flat-chested is something the anime studio made up and cannot let go of.

 Second, what does a flat chest have anything to do with a character’s beauty? On the other side of the spectrum, for comparison’s sake, we have Hinata. She has a chest, but canonically she is not beautiful. Kishimoto has stated in the databooks that Hinata is meant to be “frumpy-looking” or plain in every sense. So obviously in the Naruto world, chest size does not correlate with beauty.

 Conclusion

So as you can see, many anti-Sakura arguments are heavily flawed and can be voided just by doing some research. Please guys, be like your faves who have good eyes or glasses (not too much though, don’t want you guys going to jail)

Kakashi Hatake Personalidade Desde sua infância, Kakashi era muito independente e auto-confiante, às vezes até parecendo ser arrogante e condescendente; Apesar disso, Kakashi era muito perceptivo e intuitivo, percebendo rapidamente a situação em que se encontrava. “Alright,looks like the field is clear… !” You and Tetora quickly shushed the boisterousRyuseitai leader, worried he’d attract attention on you. He did seemintent on wanting to hide, after all. “I guess noone told you, but it’s Sengoku’s birthday soon !” Oh. That certainly explainedwhy he wasn’t there with you.

“And by‘soon’, he means tomorrow”, Midori added with a sigh. That wasn’t evensurprising to you. Chiaki’s pretty bad at planning things through, after all.

“So, what’sthe plan ? Did you guys want to do something in particular ?” They all noddedto your question, although Chiaki was the one to engage in a lengthy (anduseless) speech again.

“Of course! What allies of justice wouldn’t celebrate their dear comrade’s birthday ?There’s nothing like a powerful symbol of friendship to revive everyone’sburning spirits ! A friendship forged in fire such as ours deserves to be—“Chiaki kept getting excited in the background, but your focus shifted on Kanatainstead.

You dutifully waited until he was done with his little speech,already thinking about how you should prepare the birthday party.

“Alright, Iguess we’re going to need to work in teams. Since it’s tomorrow, we don’t havethat much time, right ?” They nodded with varying degrees of enthusiasm. Midoristill got closer to you to whisper in your ear.

“I don’twant to be with Leader…” You laughed awkwardly as Chiaki looked at the two ofyou with a big smile, as oblivious as ever.

“Uh, I’lldo my best so that you’re not together.” You added a bit louder, for everyoneto hear : “Okay, we’re going to need, um…” Their suggestions were pretty quick.

“A cake !” “ ‘gifts’…”“People, I guess… ?” Well, they weren’t wrong.

“How aboutjust holding the party in an empty classroom ? Wouldn’t it be better, since wedon’t have to go to someone’s house ?” Tetora suggested, throwing a hesitantlook your way. He seemed relieved when you nodded.

“Yes, let’sjust do that. It’s simpler for everyone that way. Alright, we need people tofind, um… Shinobu’s friends ?” You stopped a moment. Did he even have friends ? You quickly brushed thethought away, as everyone was listening intently to you. “And also a cake, anda gift, as you suggested.” Phew. So far so good. Everyone was nodding eagerly.

“I can takecare of the food !” Tetora was bouncing happily next to you, but you were quickto shake your head.

“Literally anyonebut you.” He hanged his head dejectedly, mumbling about how he greatlyimproved his cooking skills recently.

“Well, Ican go and find a gift for Sengoku-kun !” Chiaki suggested, and you noddedafter a moment’s reflexion. It didn’t seem like he’d break anything or cause anaccident, so you were fine with it.

“Alright,we trust you with the gift then ! Do you need someone to come with you ?” Youweren’t even done with your question when Chiaki turned to Midori, giving himhis brightest smile. Midori’s eyes were throwing daggers at him.

“No way.I’m staying here… it’s less troublesome this way…” You nodded again, lost in your thoughts. It was going to be hard to get Midori to move…

“i willmake the ‘decorations’…. an ‘empty classroom’ is too ‘bare’…” Kanata washumming happily again, already looking in his bag for fabrics and a sewing kit.You just looked at him confusedly before getting a hang of yourself.

“Oh, um, ifyou want, yeah. That’s a good idea !”

Midori waslooking at Kanata with bright eyes, especially when he got a paper covered insea animals’ drawings from his bag. “Kanata-senpai, are you going to sew these…?”

He justnodded in response, smiling faintly to his junior. “you can ‘watch’ if youwant…”

Midorididn’t really need more to throw an imploring look your way .“Can I stay withKanata-senpai… ? His plushies really heal me…” Well, you didn’t really have achoice, did you.

“Yeah, ofcourse. So the two of you will work on decorations. What about you, Tetora ?”He was still pouting from before but quickly forgot it as you looked his way.

“Since youwon’t let me cook, I guess I’m going with Leader to find a gift ! I’m friendswith Sengoku so I might find something he likes.”

“It’s notthat I won’t let you cook, it’s just that…” Although you were quick to answer,you couldn’t bring yourself to tell him you wouldn’t ever let him alone in akitchen for the rest of his life under threat of putting everyone in thesurroundings in danger. Fortunately, Chiaki patted your shoulder vigorously,offering you an easy way out.

“What aboutyou ?” he asked. Now that you thought about it, there was still the cake to buyor make from scratch, but finding Sengoku’s other friends seemed even moreimportant. Nothing would make him happier than celebrating with his friends,right ?

“I’m goingto tell his other friends about this ! Let’s meet up once everyone is done,alright ?” You quickly checked the time before getting up. Classes had stoppednot so long ago, so you still had most of the afternoon.

“Let’s dothis ! Good luck, everyone… ✰” And with those words of wisdom from Chiaki, you and the boys each wenton your way.

As you wandered down the school’s hallways, you wonderedif you’d ever seen Sengoku hanging out with someone other than the Ryuseitaimembers. You were about to head to his club, the Ninja Association, when yousuddenly remembered he was the only member in it. Dammit. Fortunately, hewas also a part of the broadcasting committee, which you decided was a goodplace to start. Only Makoto and Nazuna were inside the school radio’s studio,which was definitely a good thing.

“Oh, that’s you. Did you have business with us ?”Nazuna smiled at you amicably and invited you to sit with them, as Makoto evengot some tea ready for you. You didn’t even have time to refuse : there was asteaming hot cup right in front of you and Makoto looked very pleased withhimself. You quickly explained the whole surprise birthday party thing,mentioning that you’d like to invite Shinobu’s other friends too.

“I see, that’s really kind of you ! Good kid.” Nazunagrinned and started petting your head reflexively.

“Sengoku-kun and I are not exactly the closestfriends, but he’s a nice kid ! I’ll come tomorrow, if you don’t mind me… ?”Makoto asked, visibly relieved when you shook your head.

“It’d be nice if the two of you could come ! I’m surehe’d be happy”, you answered, looking at the two of them. They shared a glance,then smiled at you.

“No problem,I’m coming too ! It’s the job of a senpai to make his cute kouhai happy, afterall~” You smiled in your turn, feeling a bit relieved. It wasn’t going to be ashard as you thought, actually…

“Oh, by the way, do you know if he’s especially closeto anyone ? Maybe someone in his class ?” Makoto shrugged at your question, whileNazuna looked deep in thought.

“Well, I can tell the kids from his class about theparty. Makoto-chin will help me too, right ?” Makoto nodded happily, which madeNazuna grin again. “Don’t worry about that, I’ll tell everyone he knows ! Iguess you must be busy with other stuff you need to prepare, after all.Nii-chan will do that for you~” You could only thank them and hastily drink thetea Makoto poured for you, before you quickly went to the cafeteria’s kitchens.There was still the matter of the cake left, and it certainly wasn’t going tobake itself.

Honestly, you didn’t know what you were expecting tofind in the kitchens, but it was certainly not Souma cutting fresh fish. Thesmell had invaded the entire room, and you struggled to keep concentrating onthe flour you were trying to measure.

“What are you doing exactly, Souma ?” You eventually gave in to curiosity and turned your head his way, all while whisking theingredients in a bowl. He did the same, a little smile on his lips.

“I thought I would prepare fresh sashimi forHasumi-dono and Kiryu-dono. They have been working very hard for my sake lately.Fresh fish is quite delicious, and is excellent for your body too. Do you wantto try some ?” He handed a piece of raw fish your way, and you shook your headas politely as you could.

“I’m good, don’t worry. Besides, I’m cooking too.” Henodded, taking a break in his own cooking to come and look at you for a moment.

“If that isn’t too rude, may I ask what you are bakingthis cake for ?” You smiled at his question, adding melted chocolate to thedough.

“It’s for Shinobu’s birthday. We’re having a surpriseparty for him tomorrow.” You suddenly thought he might want to be invited too,and quickly added “You can come too, if you want.”

Souma was looking at you mixing the ingredientstogether, seemingly deep-in-thought. “I am ashamed I didn’t know about thisearlier. I would be delighted to join you on your celebration. Let me preparesomething as a gift for him.” You happily grinned, glad you found one morefriend of Shinobu’s.

“Do you get along with him ?” Souma nodded, back tocutting his sashimi.

“He is a promising ‘aidoru’. He even taught me theninja run. I am forever grateful to him.” You tried to picture the ever-dignifiedSouma running like Shinobu often does and couldn’t stifle a little laugh. Thefishy smell quickly brought you back to Earth though.

“By the way, what are you preparing for tomorrow ?”

Souma’s answer was as quick as his knife on the board.“Sashimi, obviously.”

Once the cake (and sashimi) were taken care of, youwent back to the school’s main building to join with everyone else. It wasalready getting pretty late, and you still didn’t have news from the otherboys. You were checking your phone to see if no one tried to call you while youwere busy when you heard someone running your way.

“Ah, here you are ! I’ve been looking for you,actually.” You quickly looked up : it was Yuta, not even out of breath. Youwere slightly surprised to see him running in the hallways, as he seemed moreprone to respect rules than his brother, but as he got closer you noticed helooked unusually excited.

“A senpai from the broadcasting committee told me youwere planning a surprise birthday party for Shinobu-kun, so I came to let youknow I’m coming too.” You found yourself smiling. The “guests” part of the planwas going great, so far !

“That’s good ! You’re friends, aren’t you ?” Now thatyou thought about it, you did often see them hanging out with each other. Yutahappily nodded, and you added : “Then I think he’d love to see you there too !Thanks for coming, Yuta.” He fidgeted a bit when you smiled to him, looking bothhappy and embarrassed.

“I can also tell Sora-kun and Mitsuru-kun from ourclass to come, since they’re good friends with Shinobu-kun too. Besides, Ialready bought a gift for him, so I’ll be giving it to him there.” You wereabout to answer when your phone rang, and you quickly took the call. Tetora’spanicked voice was so loud you had to put the phone away from your ear a bit.

“We’rehaving trouble~ ! I made the mistake to bring Leader in the DVD aisle and nowhe won’t move from the tokusatsu section ! What should I doooo~ ?! ” Yeah, you figured these two would mean trouble at some point.

“Tetora, did you find a gift yet ?” You could barelyhear him, as Chiaki was blabbering happily in the background.

“Uh,actually, I also wanted to ask if you had an idea, because Leader’s really sucks.”Dammit. An idea suddenly came to mind and you put thephone away to ask Yuta :

“If you don’t mind telling me, what did you buy forShinobu ? You mentioned buying a gift for him, didn’t you ?” He nodded, lookinga bit confused at how Tetora was still shouting in the phone.

“Yeah, I bought him a keychain of his favoritecharacter from that famous ninja anime he likes.” Great. You smiled at him tothank him and put the phone back to your ear, wincing when you realized howloud Tetora was really being.

“How about buying him a DVD ? Yuta just told me helikes this famous ninja anime.” Tetora’s answer was pretty quick.

“Ah, yeah, I liked it too as a kid ! Yeah, they havethe latest volume here. It even comes with a rare poster, apparently… Do youthink he’d like that ?”

“I’m pretty sure he’s gonna love it.” You and Yutashared a grin. So far, so good.

Everyone seemed pretty pleased at the recentdevelopment of events. Thanks to Makoto’s help, Mao had agreed to come too andeven managed to secure a classroom for the party. He somehow was Shinobu’s idolafter all, so everyone agreed he’d be happy to see him there. The cake wassitting in the cafeteria’s fridge, Chiaki and Tetora had brought back the giftin cute wrapping, Nazuna had bought little party hats and party crackers, andKanata made a lot of sea animal plushies, which everyone was kind of puzzledabout. Oh well. As long as he had fun. Yuta, Sora and Mitsuru even made a cutebanner, which read “Happy Birthday Sengoku-kun”. Really, everything was readyfor the D-day.

The next day finally came, but went by at an agonizinglyslow pace. So naturally you found yourself being pretty excited once the bellrang. Souma and Makoto gave you a little smile as you got up, taking your bagwith you and hurrying to the classroom Mao had reserved for the party. You weresurprised to find Tetora and Midori already there, busy plastering Ryuseitaiposters on the walls. When Tetora saw you, he waved so enthusiastically healmost fell from the chair he’d climbed on.

“ ‘Sup ! We’re finishing up the deco ! It looks nice,right ?”

“Yeah, you could say that ? Was that Chiaki’s idea ?”You were fairly sure he was the one to come up with it, but you still asked,hoping for a miracle.

“Yep ! He said it would brighten things up a bit !”Right. Someone had also put cute little sea animals plushies here and there,making you suspect a certain sea-loving senpai was also somewhere in the room.

“Is Kanata here too ?” you asked with a smile, pickingup a cute octopus plushie. Midori turned to nod faintly, even smiling a bit.

“He’s just over there.” And indeed, Kanata came backfrom under a desk, hair a bit disheveled and holding several more plushies,including one covered in wrapping.

“Hello everyone~” When Yuta entered the room, alongwith Sora and Mitsuru, you smiled and waved at them.

“We brought candy !” Mitsuru happily exclaimed, whileSora was busy emptying a bag full of candy on a desk. Yuta was already busyhanging their hand-made banner with Midori and Tetora’s help.

“Hey~ Is everything going well ?” Mao came in the roomin his turn, Makoto hot on his trails. You nodded, busy helping Kanata findingthe best place to put his plushies.

“Yeah, we’ve got the gift, the, uh… plushies, andSouma went to the kitchens to get the cake and the… uh, the sashimi.”

“Sashimi ?” Makoto laughed, shaking his head. “Hey,that’s not surprising at all actually ! As expected from Kanzaki-kun !” SaidKanzaki-kun promptly came as well, holding a plate in each of his hands. Nazunawas with him and opened the door as well as he could, considering he wascarrying a bunch of cans of juice and soda.

“Hi guys ! I suddenly thought we were going to bethirsty, so I ran to the vending machine and got juice for everyone.” Hegrinned as Mitsuru rushed to jump on him, threatening to make him drop all thecans.

“Nii-chan came too ! Waah, this is like a real party !”Mitsuru shouted, as Nazuna was trying to put the cans on a desk withoutdropping either them or Mitsuru. Souma was busy cutting the cake with a knifehe thoughtfully got from the kitchen, as Midori was watching over his shoulder,shooting you a little smile.

“You baked it, right… ? I didn’t know you could cook, senpai…♪” You justsmiled proudly at him, trying your best to look cool. Of course, he didn’t knowyou struggled and worried that you might have ruined the entire thing becauseyou put too much milk, but it seemed to have turned out pretty good. Andtasty-looking, judging by the expression on everyone’s face. You couldpractically hear stomachs growling already.

“Hey, the party’sway better than I thought it would be !” Tetora was smiling widely as Kanatawas putting a party hat on his head, and you couldn’t help but find his enthusiasmcontagious. It did feel pretty nice. Maybe because there was cake. Yeah, onsecond thought, cake seemed to make everything better. Your thoughts quicklycame back to the party, though, and especially its missing organizer.

“By the way,where’s Chiaki ?” you asked, looking at everyone assembled in the room. He didn’tseem to be there… Kanata beamed at you, waving a lobster’s plushie right infront of your face. It did strangely seem to evoke Chiaki’s image to your mind.

“he went to get‘shinobu’… they should be ‘back’ soon…” You were about to answer when you heard Ryuseitai leader’s boisterous voice in the hallway, and everyonequickly hid wherever they could. You felt a hand grip your sleeve and tug it,making you hide under a desk. The culprit seemed to be Mao, who sent a grinyour way before to put his index in front of his lips in a meaningful gesture.The room was now eerily quiet, even though you could feel everyone’sexcitement. The atmosphere was almost electric.

“… and I don’tmean to make you afraid, but there’s something extremely important waiting for you in this room !” Yep, that wasChiaki’s voice alright, and you were pretty sure he was speaking extra loudlyto make sure everyone heard. You saw Midori roll his eyes, hiding under thedesk next to yours, and you stifled a laugh. Mao shushed you, but you could seethe corners of his lips tugging into a smile too.

“I-Is that so ?Did I perhaps do something wrong de gozaru ?” Oh no, poor Shinobu was gettinganxious…

“I can’t tellyou, you have to open that door by yourself.” Chiaki’s voice sounded graverthan usual, and everyone was holding their breaths. You were getting ready toget out of under that desk yourself, making sure your legs weren’t numb. You werestuck in a pretty weird position, after all.

“I-It is as yousay, Leader-dono… I should be a proud man and face every danger de gozaru !”The door suddenly opened, revealing a livid Shinobu, and you suddenly felt Maodragging you upwards again. You think you accidentally stepped on his foot, butit didn’t really matter since all the party crackers in the room were beingpopped and everyone suddenly started shouting.

“Happy birthdayShinobu !” His eyes (well, more like the only eye you could see) fell on thebanner, and he stayed silent for a moment, eyes (eye ?) wide and mouth hangingopen. It took Chiaki violently clasping his shoulder (and probably leaving abruise, again) for him to start remembering how to talk.

“Everyone…” Heabruptly stopped, sniffling loudly and looking away. Chiaki didn’t really needmore to lock him in a bear hug, laughing brightly.

“Don’t cry,Sengoku ! Laugh with us, just like me… ✰” Surprisingly, Tetora rushed to jointhe group hug, then Kanata, and even a not-so-reluctant Midori. The others werequick to join them, and Nazuna even took your hand with a smile.

“Aren’t you theone who made all that possible ? Come on, you deserve it too ♪” Before you knewit, you were stuck in an ocean of arms, hugging whoever was in front of youtight and laughing along with everyone else, as Shinobu’s face peeked fromunder Chiaki’s form.

“Thank you somuch, everyone…”

The party wasas successful as an improvised birthday party could have been, everyone loving thecake and showering Shinobu in affection. He got, as planned, a keychain fromYuta, the DVD set from everyone and a cute frog plushie from Kanata. Once thecandy and soda stock had been thoroughly depleted and the sugar rush started tokick in, Shinobu even gave ninja running lessons to enthusiastic Tetora andMitsuru, and a not-so-willing Midori. They even sang “happy birthday” in unisonas loud as they could, and obviously Keito came to scold everyone for making aruckus. Eventually, it was time to call it a day and everyone helped clean up the room.As you were slowly going out of the school, with the boys still laughingloudly, you found yourself with the Ryuseitai members, surrounding a veryhappy-looking Shinobu.

“Really, youall have my sincere thanks… ! I truly enjoyed myself, de gozaru… ♪” Chiaki pathis shoulder again, probably leaving even more bruises in his wake, as Kanatasmiled happily.

“it’s ‘nothing’,really… we’re ‘glad’ we did it too…” Chiaki nodded firmly at Kanata’s words,now clasping Midori’s shoulder for some reason. Midori obviously wasn’t pleasedwith this.

“He’s right !It’s what friends do for each other, you know !”

You saw Shinobu’seye widen a bit, before he shyly murmured : “Friends…”

Tetora grinnedin response, throwing an arm around the self-proclaimed ninja’s shoulders. “Yup,that’s right ! Friends ! Right, Midori-kun ?”

Now that Chiakihad removed his hand from Midori, he looked a lot happier and even gracedeveryone with a little smile. “Right.”

Shinobu didn’tanswer at first, instead looking down at his feet, smiling bashfully. Hischeeks were getting pinker and pinker with each passing second, and youexchanged a smile with Chiaki. This whole birthday party plan seemed to be ahuge success, and Shinobu was quick to confirm it by himself, wiping a straytear from under his eye.

“Right now, I’mthe happiest ninja on this Earth, de gozaru… ♪”
