What are your favored scenes/moments in CMBYN ? ( the movie)

Look...... I'll be lying if I said it wasn't the crotch-grabbing scene. The way I giggled like a schoolgirl lol.

No but fr I really like the (whole) day after their first time sleeping together. How Luca managed to wrap all these overwhelming jumbles of emotions of Elio and Oliver in the span of 15 minutes, in a way that is delicate and, for lack of a better word.. vulgar, and delicate again and vulgar again over and over. Restrained and unleashed. It's such a long-stretched view into their whole dynamic, I love how it takes its time, as if patient while they're trying to figure things out, it isn't just summarised and compacted into one thing, but also... actually bare and nothing extravagant?

Their quiet swim in the river before the edging blowjob. Elio chasing Oliver with his bike, Oliver's "You're not sick of me yet?", Elio's "I just wanna be with you", ffffollowed by the peach scene... Oliver trying to eat the peach... Elio's breakdown "I don't want you to go". Then the 'Why didn't you give me a sign?! - I did!' scene as a somewhat bittersweet resolution. Aaaaaaahh!

It's light and fucking too much and light again and I'm gagging and sobbing and smiling like they absolutely have me in a chokehold. CHEF'S KISS it successfully makes me sick each time and always in the best way.

(and ofc Michael Stuhlbarg's monologue but I guess it goes without saying).. What's your favourite???

The acting range of this man is beyond measure. Sometimes it's subtle, blink and you'll miss it, but once you catch on... oh boy, you'll be blown away at how good he is. He delivers consistently, and he's a director's dream to work with.

The best current actors and the film/TV show that proved it to me

There are a lot of incredible actors out there, and more emerging every day. And it’s difficult to choose who my favourites are, however there are some actors that to me are just a little bit above everyone else. 

Florence Pugh  Florence Pugh is without a doubt an amazing actor, and is actually one of my favourites. She has starred in some of my favourite films, and is set to star in others that I’m unbelievably excited to see. 

There are a few reasons why I love Florence Pugh’s acting, but the big one is her ability to portray such deep emotional scenes. Her ability to act out: terror, love, anger, sadness, grief and so much more is masterful and really sets her apart. 

There are a lot of films that have showcased Florence Pugh’s abilities, one of my favourites being Midsommar. However the film that really to me displayed how incredible of an actor Pugh is, is the 2022 film; The Wonder. 

Florence’s ability to embody her character so beautifully was so enthralling and captivating and it kept me on the edge of my seat the entire way through. The way she is able to act out such deep and intricate emotional scenes with so many layers and nuances... I would not be suprised if there was an Oscar with her name on it in the near future. 

Tom Holland  I will admit I used to not be a big fan of Tom Holland’s work, I had only seen him in Spiderman and I found myself associating him with the character too much and struggled to separate the two. I was not a fan of the hype surrounding him and because of this I had a real unfair bias for him. 

However this has since changed. The reason why? The 2020 film; The Devil all the time. This film was incredible and Tom Holland’s acting was off the charts and it really changed my opinion on him. 

Holland has a real talent with accents, and it’s rare (at least for me) to be able to find an actor that can preform with a realistic accent at different volumes and with different tones and pitches. 

Sebastian Stan It’s no secret that I love Sebastian Stan, I’ve followed him and his projects for a while now and it’s rare for me to be disappointed. Sebastian Stan is the sort of actor that I love for so many reasons, but the main one? His ability to act and display emotion silently and without words. 

He can express and portray so much emotion and feeling through his eyes and his facial expression that he doesn’t even need to say a word. He is has the ability to do comedy, romance, horror and action, and he does it all well. 

The way he so seamlessly slips into his characters and really becomes them is so incredible to me. 

The project that shows this the most to me though is the 2012 drama series; Political Animals. His depiction of TJ Hammond was so heartbreaking, and so (no pun intended) addictive. 

Timothée Chalamet  Timothée Chalamet is another one of those rare talents that is just so much more. I don’t quite know how to describe it, but there is simply something about how he commands the screen, how he captures your attention. 

His ability to emotional connect with his co-stars and show that on screen is so beautiful, the chemistry he has with everyone in CMBYN is enthralling and makes the film so much more beautiful. 

However it isn’t CMBYN that really showed the extent of Timothée Chalamet’s skill, in my opinion. That goes to the 2018 film; Beautiful Boy. The acting in the film is incredible. Timothée was really able to capture all of the pain and hopelessness of addiction, as well as the hopeful and soulful moments of recovery. When I watched this film, I wasn’t watching Timothée acting out a character, I just saw his character living. There was no disconnect between the two. 

Josh Hutcherson Now, on this one I am admittedly a little bias. I grew up on films starring actors like Josh Hutcherson, one of my favourite films growing up was Bridge to Terabithia. However I don’t think I’m being bias when I say this actor has some serious skill. 

The Hunger Games has long been one my favourite film series (and book series), so I obviously had quite the crush on Josh Hutcherson growing up. However his inclusion on this list is not because of that. 

It’s because of his portrayal of Peeta Mellark; more specifically in Mockingjay Pt1. The way Hutcherson acted out Peeta’s downward spiral while in the captivity of the Capital was mesmerizing. I remember being genuinely afraid for him when watching the film, even after multiple rewatches. The way he acted out Peeta’s fear, rage and hate after he had been hijacked was so unbelievable incredible I can’t even put it into words.

Bones and all spoilers?

Right so my brain is very much still processing the movie again so just a few (probably incoherent) wthoughts I had watching it for the second time:

1) the scene where they first meet and are standing facing each other is extremely reminiscent of animals circling each other in hostile interactions and I absolutely adore this type of animalistic and extremely instinctual images so this scene will definitely be on my mind 24/7 now. the way this moment captures the uncertainty yet undeniable curiosity and draw they feel to one another which occurs because of this experience they both share which isolates them from others !!!!

2) all the small references to cmbyn make me so incredibly happy and I love this timmy and Luca multiverse thing they have going on. My favourite one that would probably go mostly unnoticed is the one in the car that looks incredibly similar to-

I can’t find the bones and all scene but it happens!!!

3) THE SOUNDTRACK yeah that’s all for this one

4) I already really appreciated the ending the first time I watched it but I was able to do so even more this time. It’s currently nearly 2am here so I don’t have the energy to go too much into this but yeah I really like the ending

5) regarding the sequence where the three of them are struggling off the bed and on the floor (lol I currently have no better way of explaining this without going into insane detail) I’m obsessed with how it cuts from the absolute chaos inside to the calm that is right outside the house. Ugh the toying around with perspective and individual experience and isolation and so many other themes in the movie that this cut captures

Right I have any more thoughts but that’s going to have to be it from me tonight :))))

Some of my favourite moments from Call Me by Your Name (the film):

1. Elio sneaking into Oliver’s room to sniff his shorts. He puts the shorts on his head and inhales the crotch like he’s taking his last breath on this earth. You’d think this scene would be played for laughs but Timothée is dead serious. He gets on all fours and sticks his ass in the air and you know exactly what he’s thinking. IT’S SO HOT HELP

2. When Elio and Oliver change into their bathing suits and we see both their asses. Incredible.

3. Dancing to The Psychedelic Furs. Oliver is an 80s god on the dance floor. Just when you think this scene can’t get any better, Elio busts out his own little moves and completely steals the show! Bless.  

4. Elio shaving his non-existent mustache before dinner and then Oliver doesn’t bother to show up! AHAHAHAHAHAHAH

5. Mrs. Perlman saying Vimini’s line about Oliver liking Elio. Nice work, Mrs. P!

6. Elio licking Oliver’s mouth the very first time they kiss. TIMOTHÉE CHALAMET WHAT ARE YOU?

7. When Elio gets the nosebleed Oliver massages his feet to make him feel better. He’s pretty rough so Elio moans (!!!) and grabs his shoulder. Then he starts caressing Oliver’s neck. THEN OLIVER KISSES THE TOP OF ELIO’S FOOT. Play this at my funeral.  

8. Marzia laughing hysterically at Elio when they have sex and he comes too soon. DRAG HIM.

9. André Aciman and Peter Spears’ cameo as the gay couple from Chicago. I want to hug everyone in this scene!  

10. Elio and Oliver kissing before they have sex for the first time. Nothing could have prepared me for this. Elio throws his body at Oliver and climbs him like a fucking tree. OUR SON IS AN ANIMAL

11. When Elio cries during the peach scene and Oliver holds him. The purest thing I will ever know in this life.

12. Winter Elio wears a beret! Why wasn’t I told!?

13. When they speak on the phone during Christmas and Oliver tells him that he’s getting married. Elio calls Oliver by his name over and over until your heart aches, “Elio, Elio, Elio.” Oliver then calls Elio by his name once, “Oliver,” and it destroyed me.

Even after seeing it four times in the cinema, I shall now be watching and rewatching this movie in delightful HD and never tiring of it and I can't even say how pleased I am that those whose countries will not release the movie will get to see it but...

Please try to see this movie in cinemas if you can. Not only is the experience wonderful but for such a low budget indie with sporadic release, it needs all the support it can get.

This breaking point is impossible to describe, you can only feel it with goosebumps on your skin. The power of desire. I would say "six thousand emotions" about this moment too.

Lemonade Lips - Finn Shelby (blurb)

“Honey and Lemon.”

Finn talked over Y/N, who was reading a book out loud.

“Pardon?”

Finn sighted and scratched his face.

“I mean...honey and lemon is my favourite flavor in the whole world. You asked me an hour ago.” he said, raising his arm to touch Y/N’s cheek with love.

They were having a date, the third one.

“And why would it be those two, exactly?” she asked, taking Finn’s hand in hers, and letting her fingers dance softly in his palm.

“You brought lemonade, and we had a piece of honey cake. And that’s how your lips taste.”

Y/N felt the butterflies in her stomach and smiled embarrassed.

“You know i hate coffee. But when you walk me to school and kiss me goodbye, your lips taste like coffee. And i think it’s addicting.”

Finn smiled.

“What’s addicting?” he said, pushing her.

She bit her lip, trying to hide a smile, but failing.

“Umh...the coffee?” Y/N tried tu brush it off. But Finn wasn’t going to let that happen any time soon. As quick as he could, he sat up, and started to tickle the girl.

“S-stop! Finn!” she laughed.

“Tell me what’s addicting!” he refused to stop until he heard her say it.

“Finn pl-please!” she could stop laughing.

The book now was on the floor, with its pages folding. He was over her stomach, while her back was on the grass.

“Say it!” he laughed, slowly stopping with the tickling.

Her laughter also stopped slowly, allowing her to open her eyes. So, she could see who Finn really was. His red hair was shining with the sun, and his smile was as hers.

“I...” started Y/N, while grabbing gently his head, getting him closer to her “am addicted to your lips and kisses, Finn Shelby.”

They kissed, tasting the lemonade they had a few moments ago and their smiles. It was the only kiss Finn had had, in which he felt his exploding soul.

When they stopped, their noses were touching, and their eyes met once again. And they felt the exact same connection from that rainy day.

“I...” started Finn, his lips were trembling.

“...have. a. butterfly. in. my. hair.” Y/N whispered, paying attention to the beautiful blue butterfly that was sitting in Finn’s hair.

“...what?” he asked, confused.

“You have a butterfly on your hair, Finn. Sit calmly, please don’t scare her away...” she kept whispering.

Finn sat slowly, trying to see the bug with his own eyes.

“I can’t see her...” he said, in a sad tone.

“Wait, let me...” Y/N raised her arm, trying to catch the butterfly or make her jump in her finger.

“You got it?” he asked with a smile, watching how focused she was.

Instead of a yes, he saw the most beautiful smile appear on her face. She had a big blue butterfly on her finger. Finn couldn’t care less about the butterfly, he was lost in the emotion portrayed in Y/N’s face. Once the little friend flew away, he kissed her.

“I love you, you little lemonade lips.”

(This was an attempt to balance the foodblogging with your original content. But since every ask seems to have to feature something food - related, let me tell you that I just bought fresh spinach, cream and eggs and plan to turn it into a spinach quiche tonight!)

Hi!! Firstly let me say thank you so much for this ask filled with so much things I love to talk about. Feels like it’s already my birthday (without the getting older part) 😍😍

I’m going to try to find a quote that is not overly famous so it’ll be a little bit more fun to (re)discover. Brb! (and by right back, I mean when I’ll have lost myself half an hour in the book).

..hi again! So I’ve flipped through Ghost spots only and I’ve picked two (bravo me) quotes. The first one is purely esthetics and for the style... Actually, I just checked the original version, and its less pretty than the french translation 😒Here it is:

“...I lived in the dark so as not to be blinded when darkness came.”

"...je vivais dans l’obscurité pour ne pas être aveugle quand la nuit viendrait” (in an absolute literal translation, I think it would be closer to something like “i lived in the darkness as not to be blind when the night came.” but i like the sound better in french for this one).

As pretentious as it sounds, I always thought that Aciman’s style (or the mix of his style and the style of the french translator) is kind of close to my style in French (obviously not my English, since I’m an illiterate in this one :D). Obviously, he and the translator are way better than I am (yet 😁😆) but in substance, our writing natures feel close. This is also a reason why cmbyn has become my favorite book ever. There’s so much in there that sounds like something I have written, I could have write, or I wish I’d written and the familiarity to somehow find my own voice in the pages is delicious. And that first quote feels a lot like that for me.

My real answer to the quote question is this one :

“I wanted to ask him how he knew. But then how could he not have known? How could anyone not have known?”

It might be a naive/too optimistic/too idealistic way to see life, but i like to believe that, on rare occasions, when something is simply incredibly pure and genuine and beautiful, such as what Elio and Oliver had has (😭), there that magical moment when everybody knows. There is no doubts. And I like how Elio is expressing it here. He’s been trying to hide it all summer to realize at the end of it that he and they couldn’t hide anything to anyone. It was like trying to hide light with a net.

Ok, focus. Marzia. Outfit.

First honest answer is that summer is definitely not my favorite season for clothes, let alone for “””women””” clothes, let alone in the 80s. I was about to choose something I didn’t really like when this little gem appeared :

1. Favourite film of all time? (if you’re not sure then your current favourite film) So, you chose to begin with probably the most difficult question of them all! Alright, it could be The Red Shoes, Red River, The Fearless Vampire Killers, The Great Race, CMBYN, Superman, Frankenstein, Knife+Heart, but I say... Magnum Force (1973)! No surprise, but you know why: it’s the steel, the machinery, the leather, the heat, the tough guys smiling sweetly, and the CELLULOID film! 😎

2. Favourite scene from this film? When Harry Callahan meets the rookies for the first time at the shooting range. It's the first time for the spectator as well to get to know them. They all seem so nice boys. :>

20. Top 5 directors? Luchino Visconti, Alfred Hitchcock, Dario Argento, Michael Powell, Steven Spielberg, Peter Strickland 😃

28. Guilty pleasure film? Striptease (1996) 🙈

51. Best cinema experience? Wow, definitely when I saw Visconti's movies for the first time in an old movie theatre called Orion in Helsinki. You and me were studying in high school and looking forward to see those movies we had been reading about. Having grown up in a little village, those movies meant like a world - not to mention the moment when I finally saw Alain Delon and Helmut Berger on the big screen. They were absolutely ravishing! In Orion, the screen hangs quite high there, so people have to always lean back and look up to see those eternal godlike creatures. I thought then that The Leopard (1963) was the most beautiful film I had ever seen, and was shocked at the horrible story of The Damned (1969) however beautiful the cinematography or the actors were. Oooh!

what would you say in the book was the most painful moment like the moment that hit you the hardest. Also, what scene in the movie made you the most emotional?

At the end of The San Clemente Syndrome, we learn that this is the last time Elio and Oliver will ever make love and I thought, I will never know pain like this again. 

There were 36 pages left.

Though I was sobbing uncontrollably when they meet at the university and talk about the parallel life that never was, I think the moment that finally broke me was at the very end when Elio is imagining Oliver as he was 20 years earlier:

“You’re thousands of miles away but no sooner do I look at this window than I’ll think of a bathing suit, a shirt thrown on on the fly, arms resting on the banister, and you’re suddenly there, lighting up your first cigarette of the day—twenty years ago today.”

I’ve never felt such a strong sense of nostalgia for a past that wasn’t mine. This book is my parallel life.

In the film, I’m SO fucking soft for the peach scene. When Elio breaks down and Oliver holds his little face and kisses him, it’s pure.

Ciao, can I ask you your favourite Timmy's movie in this moment? I'm usually agree with you and I like your answers. I'd like to know your opinion about Call me by your name, a general point of view. My interest is for Timmy not A, please.

Hola, @michelarusco . My favorite Timmy movie? Oh nooo, that's like asking which kid is my favorite 😋 I'm not sure I have a favorite, because it depends on my mood? I think his best performance (tied with CMBYN) was Miss Stevens. His range in that film was just... amazing. I L-O-V-E-D him in The King. Such a showcase for his ability to defy the Hollywood standard in leading a film of that scope.

My thoughts on CMBYN? I love it. I do. I will always love it because it birthed the Tim we know now. For me, his portrayal of Elio is flawless. He really was robbed of that Oscar. There could have been no one else play Elio. I don't want a sequel and that's been true since the first time it was ever mentioned. For me, CMBYN told the whole story we needed to see. Even though we know there were those other 20 pages the film didn't cover, for the film, it felt like they didn't exist and so I don't need to see them. There is no way they could ever capture the magic of that film again and to even think of trying, is a waste of time. That film was perfect the way it stands (well) and I hope they leave well enough alone.
