Understanding the role of a coach means remembering what coaching is and what it isn’t. It is not ministry or therapy or healing. A minister’s role is to provide spiritual guidance; A therapist’s role is to explore, dissect, and work through emotions. It is not a coach’s role to do any of these. Coaching doesn’t focus on feelings; it doesn’t delve into them to try to understand and explore them. It does, however, acknowledge emotions, especially in a crisis situation.

A successful coach focuses on normalising and bringing into perspective the emotions that a person encounters as a result of stressful life events. Feelings emerge — we’re human, this is perfectly normal. It is important for the coach to first recognise and describe the emotions they are experiencing. Therefore, allowing the client to understand his or her responses and emotions in relation to the rest of the case.

Conversations that involve conversations about trauma are made when the coach knows what trauma is, how it presents in the coaching room, and how to respond. In compliance with predetermined rules and contracts, all of this was done.

Welcome to Day 2 of the 6-day year in review challenge. Follow me to see the Day 1 details for the challenge.

This has been a year where personal strength, courage, conviction and love for our neighbor was required as our world traveled through this time of seeming intolerance and cruelty. Perhaps there were moments when you were not at your best, when you struggled to love yourself our those around you, where you lost faith and therefore lost your way. How can you turn those moments of pain into powerful insights for growth and learning?

2018 Year In Review Question of the day: What caused you pain in 2018? What do you need to learn from the experience so that you can let go of the hurt and make peace with the experience. If you hold onto the pain the moment will keep hurting you over and over again. Only in reflecting on what you learned and letting go of the experience can you move forward and grow. Name your experiences, write down the learnings. Take a deep breath, inhale the learning for four seconds, hold the feeling for four seconds, exhale the pain for four seconds. Pause for four seconds. Repeat 5 times. Notice how you feel.

Philosophy is integrated in almost everything. We all have philosophies in which our reasons and what we do with our days are centred. Everyone has a philosophy of life that is their own; every organisation has a philosophy. There is a philosophy for either a president, another philosophy for a business owner, a philosophy for your next-door neighbour… but for most of us, those philosophies are unexamined and more or less unconscious and primal.

Philosophy has existed as the practise of questioning the automatic reasons of instincts and say, is this wise? Is the quest for the meaning of life important or is it just an endless effort, like why do we have to be born? Is it coherent here?

Philosophy, as obscure as it can sound, refers to daily practical life and not only deals with existential problems. The importance of philosophies to life can be seen in many ways, from our general daily comprehension, to the problems of right and wrong, and even to the entire system of society itself.
