Kinkmeme-Verse - Series of prompt fills for 2024 Black Sails kinkmeme. I wrote the first two, saw the prompt for the third, and had a Vision of how they could all be connected, so here we are.

As a Boy - James Flint|McGraw/Admiral Hennessey, E, 5,121 words, complete. Young James McGraw is caught with a boy, and punished. Big content warning for CSA, which I tried to treat seriously.

Pressure - Silverflint, E, 4,504 words, complete. More watersports are we all shocked? This is kind of the ultimate expression of that, but really its an exploration of pain and grief and healing through BDSM.

Make Sail for the Dawn - Silverflint, E, 12,504 words, complete. Flint uses submission as catharsis amidst his grief and pain over Miranda, but Silver accidentally reminds him of past history, which he then has to confront. They work through it, because Silver really has to do everything on this ship, including being his captain's therapist. Also Flint gets fucked with his pistol. Just by the way. Written for the Beach Blanket Black Sails Ficfest, the prompt was 'Betsy has kittens and Silver wants to keep them on Maroon Island.' It's really about Silver and trauma and there are sad parts but nothing bad happens to any cats and there is a happy ending.

They’re stranded, stuck with Ais and a few of his Soulless in the Seaspring during Fogfall. Piercing screams and muddled gasps slice through the thick air; they can hear bones snapping and gurgling lungs even from this distance.

Peeking out from the arched entryway, they strain their eyes to search for a moment of reprieve. Maybe if they’re quick enough, they can avoid danger? If Ais would let Princess accompany them, then…

“Not a chance, sparrow.”

Ais appears like a shadow behind them, his breath hissing across the back of their neck and making their hair bristle.

They jump, scurrying back behind the entry before huffing and crossing their arms. “I wasn’t going to do anything,” they lie to his handsome face. If they could do anything, if they just had the balls to act on their feelings for that bastard, this Fogfall wouldn’t have been so bad. There was no telling how long it would last and how bored they’d get while waiting.

There had to be a way to better spend the time…

He smirks and mirrors their crossed arms. “Thought so,” he says. “Looked like you wanted to leave me lonely.”

“What’s that supposed to mean? It’s not like you’d be alone. You have Princess.”

“Guess so,” he says with a shrug. “Would’ve been a bitch following you to make sure you were safe though.”

They roll their eyes. “What do you care if I’m safe getting back to Eridia?”

His head rolls side to side as he thinks of a response. While they wait, their heart throbs through their chest. What’s taking so long? Why is he debating what to say? Does he just want to tease them—make them sweat for a minute or two?

Finally, he shrugs again. “Don’t want the Soulless getting you,” he replies. “Gotta keep them under a tight leash, a bit like I need to keep you.”

“You don’t have me on any leash. I can do what I want, whenever I want.” They glare, moving to shove his broad chest backward and get away from him.

Before they can pull away, he snatches their wrists. His hands are warm, and his crimson eyes glimmer with a sharp sense of danger…but an alluring one. They find their skin rolling with a heavy heat into their ears.

“Fogfall isn’t something to mess with,” he warns. “Stay here with me. I’ll make it worth your while.”

Mind swimming with thoughts of what he’s implying, they hold back a shudder of adrenaline. “And what are you thinking?”

He chuckles, squeezing their wrists tightly, though he doesn’t seem to need much power to do so. “Guess I can say it since you’re looking eager to hear it,” he says. Suddenly his fingers lace with theirs, and a shock bursts up their arms. “I like you hanging around here. Besides, like I said, you’re signing a death warrant if you leave now. Can’t control the Soulless all the time.”

They swallow, and their eyes dart down to his lips. They seemed to only look for a split second, but it’s long enough for Ais to lick his fangs and smirk.

“What’cha thinking?” he asks, inching his body forward until his hands release theirs and skim around their waist. He’s bold. He’s a bit much when their head is foggy with trying to keep up with what’s happening.

But from the negligible tremble in his fingertips, they can tell he’s got a minor hesitation as well. Is he nervous too? Maybe, but maybe it’s just their imagination, or maybe he’s playing up his interest.

Before they can reply, they’re swept into a kiss that consumes their soul entirely. Every inch of their body sears with smoke and fire. His lips are softer than they expected, and his breath is heavy against their cheeks. It’s hot. It’s yearning. It’s borderline desperate.

And suddenly, he’s gone, his smirk replaced by a slight frown as his eyes gaze upon their mouth.

“Been waiting for a chance to do that,” he breathes, lidded eyes blinking slowly. “Think it was worth it…?”

They bite their lower lip and release a shaky breath. “Yeah,” they mumble. “I wouldn’t mind a couple more, just to burn time.”

“Hm? That’s the only reason?” he asks, lifting his gaze to theirs with a curious look. “Like it rougher, little sparrow? Wouldn’t have pinned you as that kind of person.”

Scoffing, they slide their arms around his neck. “Shut up and kiss me,” they mutter. “I’ve wanted it forever. Don’t ruin the moment…”

Hermione-centric and HP World Building Expansion edition

A late entry from me. Beware that this list is based on my personal preference. If you don't like the ships, remember the rule - don't like don't read. Ship and let ship!

That being said, it has been a while since the last time I've come up with a rec list. But reccing great fanfics has remained one of my greatest passion. Having decided to fully integrated myself into the Harry Potter fandom again, I'm amazed at how creative and talented the authors of this fandom are. There are a plethora of interesting ideas and premises, with various themes and genres along with inquisitive, thoughtful observation regarding the characters and the world building of Harry Potter.

Without further ado, let's dive in to my submission for today's @hprecfest prompt: fics with over 100k+ words. All the fics below are Hermione-centric (one less than the other two but still), with amazing social commentaries on the HP world and impeccable observation on the magical world, which to me are the best aspect of HP fic.

When you can't change time, but you can't go forward, what is left? Hermione learns how to be the protagonist of her own story.

To quote one of the bookmarks: Hermione is more than she ever was. This story is a journey of Hermione to grow, to love and to explore magic and its beauty more than she could ever be. Don't let the pairing deter you, this is no doubt one of the most memorable fanfic reading experience I have in my years of being in fandoms. Hermione and Tom are both portrayed spectacularly and thoughtfully, and the prose are some of the most poetic I've ever seen.

To sum up the whole of my reading experience, I laid on my bed and stared at the ceiling for 30 mins after reading the last chapter, completely shell-shocked.

All I could say is, if you want an astounding character arc for Hermione, with in-depth magical system and immersive world building, plus interesting OCs and breathtaking writing, then this fic is definitely for you!

2. What's Past is Prologue by ABitofWit (E, 244,611, Hermione Granger/Lucius Malfoy)

It's eight years after the war and Hermione Granger has taken a break from her career at the Ministry of Magic to compile an oral history of the conflict. She's interviewed just about everyone she can get her hands on but she wants to be thorough. And that means getting in contact with a very unwilling Lucius Malfoy.

Listen, I know the pairing is weird as fuck. I know, I had my doubt too before reading it. But the raving bookmarks convinced me to give this a chance. And boy, it was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

This fic is more than just a ship fic, it's about love and what we would do for it, the greyness of life and choices, of redemption and finding one's self worth outside of pre-existing, archaic ideas and values. It's about change and how we're never too old to learn. WPIP is everything I've ever wanted in a fic, emotional, sincere, humorous, gorgeous, sexy, steamy and sweet. Full of heart and soul.

Most of all, the development of and between Hermione and Lucius is so natural and makes a lot of sense, without them being OOC. This fic reminds me that Hermione is not at all flawless (the opposite of the usual Mary-Sue, little-miss-perfect trope that Hermione tends to be portrayed in fics), while successfully humanizes and makes Lucius Malfoy one of the most interesting HP characters in my eyes. (Who would have thought that I've spent years not giving a jot about this guy, only to fall in love with such a mess of a man like him??)

Combine with sharp commentaries and observations on the British Wizarding World, Wizarding politics and a not-canon folder supporting cast, this is no doubt one of the best HP fic, and one of the best fanfic I've ever had the pleasure to read.

3. Six Pomegranate Seeds by Seselt (E, 185,965, no pairing but implied Theodore Nott/Hermione Granger)

At the end, something happened. Hermione clutches at one fraying thread, uncertain whether she is Arachne or Persephone. What she does know is that she will keep fighting to protect her friends even if she must walk a dark path.

Sooo, this is one very weird fic. One of the oddest fics I've ever encoutered, in fact. I've read it twice, one before I read the book series in full, one after I've finished the books. And let me tell you, SPS is a stunning work.

The odd, floating third-person POV, the dry and sharp, straightforward tone of Hermione. Her competency, her compassion despite all the pain and the emotional repression. This is definitely not your usual time travel fix-it fic.

Most of Hermione's work happened in tandem with the 7 books' main storyline. Hermione's soul is put into the body of a young orphan Pureblood heiress. This gives the fic one of the most interesting spin on the Hermione-is-a-pureblood trope.

Through Hermione, we have a closer look into the background and the context of the main events of the books, plus a deeper understanding of the Pureblood society and a much more sympathetic view into the students Slytherin house. All without whitewashing and offsetting the corruption and the effects of the Purebloods and the Slytherins' stuffy, archaic views on not only the young generation of students but also the British Wizarding world.

I lost count of the amount of time I slapped my knees while reading this work the second time whenever I encountered a particularly sharp line of thought/commentary from Hermione in this fic. I'm also amazed at how much work and research the author has put into SPS, particularly in terms of making up tons of new magical theories and the use of exotic and lesser known vocabulary (seriously, if you decide to read this one, prepare a dictionary next to you, or get ready to regularly stop mid reading in order to look up certain words 😆)

Ideas: Gotta Catch 'Em All!

(look, I know one whole Pokemon reference and I'm gonna use it.)

I was tossing around ideas with @calypsid about writing events and coming up with ideas and how to write for big events - in fandom, for the monthlong ones especially, but also if you're someone looking at submitting original fiction to a themed anthology or to a zine, or when you just want to WRITE dammit but the ideas won't come. When the idea hutch is empty and the plotbuns won't come, when the creative spring is trickling or you're at the bottom of the well of inspiration, hope is not lost. We put our heads together and came up with a baker's dozen ways to get ideas and look at prompts to get new inspiration when you need it. So if you want 'em, jump below the cut!

Stop looking at words.

Look at art! Listen to music! Maybe what you need is some song lyrics to get your brain going, or art. Play Sudoku. Go to a coffee shop and watch people. Change your mental or physical environment and see what happens.

Prompt lists

Don’t limit yourself to whatever event you’re writing for! If it’s for a fandom ship week, hit up a themed month prompt list (such as Fluffuary, AUgust, or Whumptober). If you’re trying to think of ideas for a zine pitch, trawl prompt lists from fandom or creative writing websites. Mash the TVTropes random trope button until something clicks.

Tarot spreads

Even if you don’t read tarot on your own, you can find websites where you can do tarot readings. Treat it as a story prompt generator: pick three cards, one that is your protagonist, one that is their goal, one that is their obstacle. Look up the meanings. Go wild! You can use the cards for protagonists, antagonists, story arcs…

Lists

Not prompt lists - but every idea you can think of adjacent to a prompt. Tropes, colors, sayings, characters, types (e.g. species of apple, types of wildflowers, names of cocktails)...

An alphabetical list with an idea for each letter of the alphabet.

A list of 20 ideas, as close or as absolutely wild as you want.

A timed list (write ideas for 5/10/15 minutes). The first chunk may be easy, the last few minutes impossibly hard, but right in the middle where your mind is starting to stretch? That may be perfect.

Once you have a list of any flavor, start looking for patterns: that’s a sign your brain is interested in SOMETHING. What ideas/symbols keep showing up?

Look for unexpected intersections

Ideas or prompts may have unexpected links. Randomize your list! Consider resonances between different prompts; they may seem different in a different order. Pick a not obvious combination of two prompts and follow it to the end - what if you put together “pirate” and “arranged marriage”? Use a wheel spinning picker and see what two things the computer matches up.

You can also take a pair of commonly-associated opposites, pick out their most common stereotypical traits. Now swap them. 

Play with other media

Take characters from one piece of media, the setting from a second (hey look, a fusion/AU!). What resonates between them? Grab a non-fiction book about a topic you’re interested in and read that. Ideas might percolate from a number of unrelated sources into one Super Cool Idea.

Change the setting

Turn a sci-fi show into a fantasy setting, or vice-versa. Add monsters. Add gods; add gods with reality-bending dice; add gods with reality-bending dice who are malicious. Flip your characters' genders. Remove the concept of gender entirely. Send your characters to the dimension next door, where only one thing has changed. Or many things. Or everything. Take the characters out of the plot of your fandom, or replace them with side characters; what changes?

Change your mind

Take the prompt at face value. Or, treat it sarcastically. Subvert the trope - or don't subvert the trope. Write the thing you've always wanted to see, even if you think it won't work. Turn everything about the prompt on its head and look underneath for spare ideas. Come at it from every angle you can think of.

Other people

Talk to people about the prompt. Read Reddit or Tumblr conversations, even ones only vaguely associated with the prompt. Let your mind go in new and interesting directions. 

Cool words

Have you run across an awesome word you wish you could use in a story, or a turn of phrase? Write a story around that. Or if you have a list of cool words you keep anyway, flip back to it, see if there are any that might come together in a story.

Titles

If you have a title you've always wanted to use, let the title inspire the fic instead of the other way around. 

First Sentences

Just start writing first sentences, whatever ones come to mind. Don’t be precious about them; the goal isn’t perfect sentences, the goal is something to get your brain moving. Don’t worry about continuing the story yet! Try and get a bunch down without writing any more of the story. If one speaks to you and demands to be written, go back to it after you’ve got your list down.

Deconstruct a story you love and then rebuild it!

Retell a favorite story (or a hated story you thought you could do better). How did they do X? Why did you love (or hate) something so much? Can you do that with some of your ideas? Take out the main character and their sidekick; how does the story read with just the secondary characters? What if you add someone new? How would the story look different as a documentary, a chatfic, an epistolary collection?

Some fanworks deconstruct these biases/beliefs and some fanworks can play into these biases/beliefs unwittingly. Some fanworks are just as racist and antisemetic as the source material.

Transphobia is real and has real harm on real people. Racism is real and has real harm on real people. Antisemitism is real and has real harm on real people. Zionism is also real and I support Palestine. (I post about all of these on my main blog more than here.)

However, what I like about drarry is redemption, remorse, & unlearning harm. I think that real people do have a chance at remorse and redemption and change. I think everyone has a chance to be better and unlearn racism and antisemitism and transphobia and homophobia.

But if they are not doing all that and are currently being bigoted, they deserve to get punched in the fucking throat. So, in essence, fuck JKR and do better.

Character: Leia Organa

Leia has been my absolute favorite character since childhood for so many, many reasons... I adore her bravery in the face of danger, her commitment to her cause, and the unique combination of strength and vulnerability which she portrays. There are so many, many things you can do with her through fic... I really could write and read about her forever!

Fic prompts/ideas: -I love pre-ANH Leia stories, where we see the young reckless senator standing up to the Empire and going on her first missions of espionage for the rebels. Maybe she almost gets caught-- how does she deal with that and manipulate her way out of capture or detection? There's a delicious potential for suspense and drama there! As well as great juicy interactions with Vader and Tarkin... -Leia's relationship to Alderaan-- fond childhood memories, cultural and familial traditions, her drive to protect them from the Empire, and even the tragedy when they are finally lost. This lends itself well to any bittersweet fluff with the Organas and Winter... as well as character studies or coming-of-age tales.

-Anything to do with her capture and torture aboard the Death Star-- I'd love some whump or hurt/comfort related to her interrogation scene, or confrontations with Tarkin and Vader... feel free to combine with the Leia ships listed below.

-Dark Leia AUs are also really fun, as are those where she is discovered by Vader and must deal with the fallout of her heritage. It's a great route for character study and angsty exploration; how does she get to this point and where does she go from there?

Leia Organa/Wilhuff Tarkin

Ah, my twisted little rarepair OTP. The things I would do for them! Leia is the perfect embodiment of the Rebellion's cause, just as Tarkin is the perfect embodiment of the Empire... where she is hope and light, he is tyranny and darkness. They have so much sass and resentment for one another, and I'm sure there were many opportunities for them to butt heads in the time before A New Hope. And then that moment in the Destruction of Alderaan scene where he touches her face. *shivers* Feel free to get dark and creepy with them and to emphasize the power dynamics and their hate for one another. There's a LOT of potential between these two!

Prompts:

-I like to imagine that, pre-ANH, Tarkin may have had a sort of obsession with outing Leia as a rebel. I want to see a game of cat and mouse between the daring spy princess and the wicked governor and how they work to thwart each other.

-Fake dating trope as a conduit for espionage and political intrigue: Leia pretends to be seeing the Grand Moff in order to get information on the Empire's plans... and perhaps deeper feelings begin to blossom. I think Leia could get something out of the push-and-pull dynamic and the challenge of a dangerous and hateful man as the enemy she's trying to take down.

-Tarkin tries to force Leia into a relationship with him so that he can use her as leverage/a hostage against the rebels and their sympathizers.

-Tarkin evacuates the Death Star in time and is determined to get revenge on Leia for the loss of his ultimate weapon... whump and tension ensue.

Honestly, I would be happy just to see these two locked in a room and arguing for hours; any interaction between them makes my heart happy!

Leia Organa & Darth Vader

Vader finding out Leia is his daughter is always a classic fic premise, and one which can be exploited in many ways. Both of these characters are so strong willed and a force to be reckoned with, and watching them play off one another is really entertaining. I love the parallels between them, the way that Leia is unafraid to stand up to this powerful figure, and the angst and drama which their shared bloodline causes.

Prompts:

-"You weren't on any mercy mission this time": something where Leia runs into Vader in the pre-ANH time and narrowly evades his capture.

-Vader kidnaps Leia to raise her as his daughter and Sith apprentice. She resists every step of the way.

-The two of them are forced to work together for a common goal-- perhaps the cause of overthrowing Palpatine. Maybe Vader is compelled to defect to the Rebellion and redeem herself, or maybe Leia finds herself seduced to the dark side of the Force.

Leia Organa/Darth Vader

If there weren't related, I do think that Vader and Leia would make a rather compelling couple, being almost compatible in a certain twisted manner. Both of them are deeply passionate and determined to protect the ones they love, with rather fiery spirits and a commanding presence. There's also the aesthetic of black vs white and the cute height difference, as well as the twisted take on the knight and the princess motif. I can see him getting really protective and possessive of her and being reminded painfully of his dear Padme.

Prompts:

-Through some strange pull of fate, the two are placed in a Force bond. Vader feels a connection to Leia but doesn't know the truth of why and draws entirely wrong conclusions as a result-- (romantic rather than paternal).

-Palpatine arranges that Leia be betrothed to Vader as a manner of subduing the rebels and spiting the Organas and his wayward apprentice in one fell swoop.

-Leia becomes the consort of newly crowned Emperor Vader, as well as his apprentice in the Force, and struggles to come to terms with her new position.

Leia Organa/Wilhuff Tarkin/Darth Vader

A mixture of the above ships... just Leia being caught between the attentions of two powerful Imperial enemies who have competing agendas to possess her, and her efforts to resist them in every way. They can be the worst most dysfunctional love triangle ever.

Leia Organa/Wilhuff Tarkin & Darth Vader

Same as above, but with Vader being aware of his fatherly role and taking a more platonic role in his protections of the Princess.

Prompts: -Leia is raised by Vader as the Imperial princess, and is given to Tarkin in marriage to secure the family bloodline. However she has other plans...

-Vader notices the Grand Moff creeping on the young Senator of Alderaan and, due to some unknown urging of the Force, is determined to protect her.

Jyn Erso/Orson Krennic

A forceful and obstinate rebel girl and an equally forceful and obstinate Imperial officer, both sharing a messy past and a connection to her father. They compel me and I think their sparring would be delicious to watch.

Prompts:

-Jyn and Krennic survive the Battle of Scarif and begin an enemies to lovers arc. Perhaps they are forced into close proximity in order to survive and must learn to rely upon one another.

-Galen takes his family with him back to the Empire, and Jyn grows close to the mysterious man in white.

-Forced marriage where the Ersos are desperate to protect themselves from the Empire and must offer up their daughter as a last resort.

Sabe/Darth Vader

Sabe is an intriguing side character-- the girl who grew up in Padme's shadow, devoting her life to the protection of her Queen. In the time of the Empire, she becomes a rebel spy, and meets Vader in the comics. I think they could make a very entertaining, tragic, and dysfunctional couple, with Vader looking for the shadow of the wife he had lost but eventually falling for someone new, and Sabe trying to come to an understanding of the man her Queen loved and see behind the mask.

Prompts:

-SPY x FAMILY-esque AU where, due to some strange political shenanigans they have to raise the twins together.

-Fake dating or forced marriage

-Sabe tries to assassinate Vader, but it doesn't go as planned.

Character: Winter Celchu

Winter has a lot of fascinating possibilities, being a child of Alderaan and so closely tied to House Organa, acting as the more subtle and gentle half of Leia's fiery spirit. She's also quite intellectual and a cunning rebel agent, which is really fun.

Prompts:

-Something to do with her spy missions for the Rebellion, her ability to slip so easily into different roles and maybe some angst about her true self disappearing because of that.

-Her relationship to Leia... it's said that when they were young the two would swap places and Winter would play as the princess so Leia could run away from her duties or play pranks. I think that could be a fun little story.

-Reunion with Leia after Alderaan's destruction.

Character: Rivoche Tarkin

Rivoche is an obscure character, but she intrigues me. She's the niece of the infamous Grand Moff Tarkin, but holds sympathies for the Rebellion-- even using her position as a socialite to spy for them. I think there are a lot of places she could be taken.

-Something dealing with her relationship to Uncle Wilhuff

-How she becomes involved with the rebels in the first place.

What counts as a bingo?

Summary: Every time Shuichi comes to the coffee shop near the college campus, he finds himself talking with the barista a lot. Little did he know that this constant interaction with the cute, purple-haired barista would start up some rumors...

After his last class of the day, Shuichi made his usual walk to the coffee shop on the edge of campus. It was his favorite place to go and get some good coffee and study in relative peace (as much as he loved his roommate and best friend Kaito, he could not tolerate Kaito’s boisterous behavior during his studying period).

Not to mention being able to see and talk with the cute barista there everyday, Kokichi Ouma.

They immediately hit it off from the moment they met and they chatted constantly as Kokichi made his drink for him. Shuichi had been there so many times that Kokichi had his order down pat and would get started on it before Shuichi could say a single word. In a way, they had a connection that Shuichi liked.

He arrived at the coffee shop, looking up at the rustic sign that read DICE Coffee and Sweets. He smiled, an image of the chirpy barista crossing his mind as he opened the door and stepped inside.

Immediately, he spotted Kokichi.

“Ah! Saihara-chan!” Kokichi exclaimed.

“Hey, Ouma-kun.” Shuichi greeted.

Seeing as there was no line, he went right up to the counter.

“So, how’s your day been so far?” Kokichi asked as he grabbed for a cup and began to write Shuichi’s name on it.

“It’s going fine, I guess. I need a place to study for my midterms, so I came here.” Shuichi explained.

“I see, I see. Is your roommate too noisy?”

“Yeah. Like, he’s my best friend and at all, but he’s a bit distracting.”

“Man, I hate rooming with people like that. I have to go to the library just so I could take my online classes and do my assignments because he refuses to turn off his creepy, occult-like music.”

“Ouch. That sounds rough.”

“It sure is.”

Kokichi got to work on his drink.

“You want a cream cheese danish, right?” he asked.

“Yeah.” Shuichi replied.

“Okay.” Kokichi looked at his coworker, who had green hair, matching green eyes, and multiple piercings lining his ears and one on his left eyebrow. “Hey, Amami-chan, can you grab a cream cheese danish for me?” he asked.

“Yeah, sure.” Rantaro looked over at Shuichi. “I see your boyfriend has come back to see you, Ouma-kun.” he noted.

“B-Boyfriend?!” Shuichi stammered out.

Kokichi nearly dropped the cup of piping hot coffee from shock.

“Boyfriend?! Saihara-chan and I are not dating!” he exclaimed.

“Hm? You two aren’t dating?” Rantaro questioned.

Shuichi shook his head.

“No...what makes you think that?” he asked.

“Everyone has noticed how close you two are, so they began to start spreading rumors that you two were dating. But if you aren’t, then I guess I’ll have to tell them that the rumor is false.” Rantaro explained.

“There’s a rumor like that?!” Kokichi squawked.

“Yeah? It’s all everyone’s been talking about.” Rantaro said.

“What the heck...” Kokichi trailed off.

“Well, if it’s not true, then it must not be true. Sorry about that.” Rantaro said as he handed Shuichi a small plate with the danish on it.

“It’s fine.” Shuichi said as he took the plate from him.

At that moment, Kokichi also finished making Shuichi’s coffee.

“Here’s your coffee...” Kokichi trailed off.

“Ah...thanks...” Shuichi said as he reached to take the cup from him.

As he did, their fingers brushed against each other. Sparks flew, which made Shuichi pull his hand back after securely grabbing the cup. Kokichi must have felt it too, for he was holding his hand.

“Then...I’ll go and sit down. I have to start studying.” Shuichi said.

“Oh, yeah, you can go ahead and do that! I’ll bring you a refill soon.” Kokichi told him.

Shuichi smiled.

“Thanks.” he said as he headed over and sat down by the window.

As he set his coffee and danish down and began to take out his laptop and school materials, he couldn’t ignore the way his heart was racing and the blush that would spread across his cheeks each time he locked eyes with Kokichi.

Two weeks passed since that awkward moment between them. During that time, Shuichi came to the conclusion that he had fallen for the barista at some point. He would wonder why he didn’t notice it before, but would tell himself that there was a reason behind everything and that there must’ve been a reason why he hadn’t realized it until now.

After completing his final midterm, Shuichi found himself back at DICE, craving the coffee that Kokichi would make for him.

Forget how awkward that day was, just act normal, he told himself.

He released a sigh before opening the door and walking in. He got in line behind a woman as he spotted Kokichi, who was busy spraying whipped cream on top of a cup of hot chocolate. His heart fluttered at the sight of him.

He looks as cute as he usually does, he thought to himself.

A blush crawled onto his cheeks as the woman went up and Rantaro proceeded to assist her.

“Next!” Kokichi called out.

Shuichi walked over, waving.

“Hey, Ouma-kun.” he greeted.

“Oh! Saihara-chan! I haven’t seen you in a while!” Kokichi exclaimed.

“Yeah...things have just been busy as of late and then there were midterms...” Shuichi trailed off.

“Ah, midterms. Yeah, that’s totally understandable.” Kokichi reached for a cup. “The usual, yes?” he asked.

“Yeah.” Shuichi replied.

“Okie dokie, then!” Kokichi chirped.

He wrote down Shuichi’s name along with something else before brewing his coffee and heading off to get his cream cheese danish. After receiving his danish and coffee, he went to sit down at his usual spot by the window.

As he took a sip, he noticed that there was more written on the cup this time around.

I wonder what Ouma-kun wrote, he wondered to himself.

He set the cup down and tilted it back a little, reading what it said.

Let’s go on a date, Saturday at 6:30pm.

Shuichi’s eyes widened in surprise.

A date?! Oh my god, he just asked me out on a date, he thought to himself.

He looked over and spotted Kokichi, who immediately looked away with a blush on his cheeks.

He feels the same way I do...he likes me, too, he thought to himself.

This realization made Shuichi feel giddy.

I don’t think I’ve ever felt this happy before, he thought to himself.

Finishing off his danish, he picked up his backpack along with his cup and he walked over to Kokichi.

“Saihara-chan, what’s up—“ Before Kokichi could finish his sentence, Shuichi leaned over the counter and pecked him on the cheek.

Kokichi’s cheeks flushed red as Rantaro dropped his permanent marker. Kokichi’s hand flew up to where Shuichi kissed him, watching Shuichi in stunned surprise.

“S-Saihara-chan! Why did you...?” Kokichi trailed off.

“It’s a date.” Shuichi smiled. “I’ll text you soon.” he said as he turned and left the coffee shop with a bounce in his step.

He couldn’t wait for Saturday to come.

52. Marriage of Convenience 94. Hair Brushing/Braiding 

Is it bad that my first thought is actually inspired by the Ob*kin fic Their fragrance came from you? There's a whole thing about Tatooine marriage braids that my mind immediately jumps to lmao

I think... let's say modern AU. Anakin is a single dad, has been for a few years. Padme died in childbirth, and while her will was made out in favor of Anakin and the kids, the executor of her will was her lawyer-mentor, Palpatine, who couldn't touch the trust funds set up for the twins (which are very large, and will become available when they turn 25, but can only be accessed for education costs before then), but did manage to somehow take almost all the liquid assets left for Anakin in bogus fees.

Anakin's still got the house, but as time passes, he's having more and more trouble with paying the property taxes. He's still managing, but the money Padme left for him is slowly dwindling, and the kids are going to start costing more as they get older, and he's already got Ahsoka living with him (she helps out with the kids so he can work, coding from home, since he's paying for her college tuition; she doesn't have to pay rent since she's a commuter student, and she's got a partial scholarship, but that's still a few thousand a year coming out of Anakin's pocket to put his little sister through underrad). Obi-Wan offered to help, but Obi-Wan lives on the other side of town and even tenured professors don't earn that much, compared to Coruscant's standard cost of living, especially since Obi-Wan adopted recently, a little girl called Reva, and--

Anakin's struggling financially, basically, which isn't a new circumstance, but he really doesn't want to lose Padme's house. Worst comes to worst, he can probably sell it back to Sola so it stays in the Naberrie family, and she'll let him keep living there, but... that's not a sure bet. The Naberries are comfortably wealthy, but it's still an entire house.

Rex, a college friend of Anakin's that went to the same aerospace program, comes back to town. He was on a military tour overseas, but got honorably discharged due to a head injury. Anakin offers to let hm sleep in the guest room, since Padme's house (it's still Padme's, in Anakin's mind), is a lot bigger than Cody's apartment, even if there are toddlers at large. Rex initially promises that he'll only stay long enough to find an apartment of his own, except he overhears Anakin on the phone with Obi-Wan about the finance stuff one day, and reaches out to a few people who have been in town more consistently for a better idea of what's going on without getting too deep into Anakin's business.

Rex manages to get a job locally; there's an airfield for hobbyists a few miles out of town, and the place is looking to hire a new engineer on staff to do repairs and checks on the small planes they keep on site. He starts making noises about moving out, and then, 'subtly,' suggests he just stay at Anakin's place and pay rent.

Anakin does not like the idea of Rex paying rent; friends don't do that! Anakin isn't going to make Rex pay rent in Anakin's home.

They don't talk about it for a few days, and then there's... IDK a night 'off,' where Obi-Wan or Sola or Aayla or Beru takes the twins for an evening, and Ahsoka goes out with friends, so Anakin can take some time off from being a Dad and just Relax.

He and Rex break out the wine, get tipsy not truly drunk, and Rex pokes at the 'just stay here' option again. The house is closer to the airfield than most apartments, and Rex can help take some of the weight off of Anakin and Ahsoka's shoulders with regards to childcare! Even if Anakin won't accept him paying rent!

Anakin argues this. Anakin's kids aren't Rex's responsibility, and Anakin doesn't need his charity (which is, of course, how he views Rex's suggestion). They go back and forth on the topic a few times, and then Rex throws out something about getting married 'for lower taxes' and 'it's not rent if it's my house too, right?' and it's. It's a joke.

Except they're both still thinking about it the next morning, with faint (but not faint enough) memories of a tipsy kiss before bed, and--

Months pass with the two of them circling around each other and Rex never quite moves out, and tax season rolls around, and Anakin is stretched so thin, even with all the cuts for children and covering a dependent's tuition and so on.

Rex quietly floats the idea of a convenience marriage again. It doesn't have to mean anything, if Anakin doesn't want it to. It's not an insult to Padme's memory, just a way of keeping her children in the house she chose for them. And it's not charity, because Rex will get tax cuts too, and better health insurance once Anakin can put him on the family plan he's got. It won't do anything for this year, but by the time the next year rolls around, Anakin will have less of a problem paying those taxes, even if that promotion he's been hoping for doesn't come through.

Anakin, eventually, agrees.

Just four months later, they tie the knot. It's a small ceremony, more than just a courthouse and a paper, just to... well, Anakin wants Rex to have this. Leia and Luke don't entirely understand what's going on, but Ahsoka told them that it means Rex is going to be staying for a lot longer than they originally planned, and they're pretty excited about that part. They're four, and 'Daddy's friend that we like a lot is staying' is pretty clear.

They don't have a 'traditional' wedding night, because they're still both looking at this as a platonic thing (it won't stay that way, but it still is for now). They do share a bed, because someone is sleeping in their guest room (IDK who, maybe a guest was too drunk post-wedding to get home and they just offered the room). Anakin's hair is long enough for an evening of people and, importantly, sticky toddler hands to have tangled it. He washes it out, comes to the bed, and looks so tired--because he had to wash the toddlers first--that Rex offers to brush it for him.

It's intimate. Gentlemanly, but intimate. They go to bed with warm cheeks and pounding hearts, and eventually, one of them rolls onto their side to cuddle.

Neither of them get much sleep that night.

What classifies as an AU?

AU stands for “Alternate Universe.” For the purposes of this fanweek, that means that the works created for this week will - for the most part - not take place within the events of MCU canon. Though you are welcome to still create works that take place within the MCU (think: Everybody Lives/Nobody Dies, Sam is the Winter Soldier instead of Bucky, etc), the prompts for fics like these will likely fall into Day One: Based in Canon. There may be some exceptions to this - for example, soulmate AUs that are MCU canon compliant are still acceptable since the soulmate schematics required for these kinds of fics classify them as AUs. However, it is important to remember that the point of this fanweek is to get creative and add more sambucky AUs to the world, so feel free to get inventive and fun with it!

As promised, this year I'll host it again: September is around the corner, and with it smutember, or at least the Sailor Moon fandom corner side of it, that is, if you're on-board here lol. It's open for all types of fanwork, and all ships within the fandom.

Just like the previous years, it runs alongside to the official daily word prompts on the official smutember blog: Smutember is an event that runs all throughout September for all fandoms. The following is meant as an addition, not a replacement. If you want to do daily prompts, please use the official word prompts (linked above). And while these prompts are amazing, for older fandoms such as ours, daily prompts can sometimes be a little intimidating. Because of this, and in now Sailor Moon fandom smutember tradition, I again customized an alternative weekly trope list that can still incorporate the official themes.

This year, since it's our anniversary year in the Sailor Moon fandom, I've added a few of the classic tropes, as well as a remix of some you've seen in the previous years. Obviously, they are very, very welcome to be explicit for this event, but you can also go T-rated and stay in lime or ‘blacked out’-territory if you’re uncomfortable with writing explicit scenes! Both is perfectly and absolutely welcome! This of course also goes for fanart - your fanart may depict sexy scenes, but does NOT have to be explicit! (It can, though! Be aware that for tumblr’s guidelines, when sharing your art first, you may have to clip your images as a sort of preview. The original can then be sent to me privately to include into the e-zine!) 2. Minimum Age of Characters: Since this is a community event, if you do go explicit M rated material: age them up where necessary! So that everyone can be comfortable writing and reading these, let them be 18 at the minimum if they’re going to openly and explicitly wohoo. Celebrate sexuality in an open, sex-positive way with us, try to be unapologetic about your likes while you write this, and appreciate the beauty that comes in the form of content with a largely female-gazing creator-base and audience! Smut in fanfiction has been beautifully put as the subjectification of sexuality (as opposed to  objectification). So let’s celebrate this art form together! 7. Reviews: No one is forced to review. It can be uncomfortable to review a fic that contains sexual acts for any number of always valid reasons. Keep in mind, however, that much like a Burlesque dancer on stage, putting out sexual content can also be very intimidating to an author, and nothing is more discouraging than silence when baring yourself to an audience like this. That being said: Both Ao3 and FF have the option to review in anon mode. That means you have the option to remain anonymous while cheering the author on all the same. Just like the Burlesque dancer, your resident smut authors prefer to go on stage to loud cheering - it makes it all less awkward for them, and feels a little more like a big celebration!

Florist!MC X Mhin + mutual pining?🥺

Florist MC, I am sobbing…! This is an adorable concept and I am in LOVE with it.

Little bit of an AU, but MC still has bandages on their hands to fit with canon. It ended up a little long, so I put a break.

Mhin was never the type to buy flowers. What for? They had no one left to give them to, and the only person they cared about was basically just their doctor. Plus, the crappy things died within a week, and they rotted like a smelly carcass, and they didn’t even look all that pretty.

At least, that was what they thought until they met the florist.

They were kind enough to offer Mhin a rose when they passed by, with nothing more than a simple, “You looked like you could use a cheering up. Here. On the house.”

Having not experienced that kind of appreciation for many, many long nights, they took it with a confused nod.

Now, they couldn’t hold themselves back from visiting the florist even on their busiest days. Instead of spending their free time looking for hunting jobs or relaxing (well, not relaxing per se, but biding their time) at home, they walked to the stupid flower shop to look at some stupid flowers and buy a stupid lily for no other reason than to talk to the stupid florist.

But they were so kind to Mhin, and they didn’t ask questions aside from the regular, “Are you from around here? What’s your name?” And suddenly, after a few weeks of visits, the more interesting question of, “So, do you mind if I ask who you’re buying flowers for?”

Mhin froze, thinking back to their one vase full of a range of decaying flowers on their kitchen counter and trying not to scowl. How weird was it to say that the flowers were for themself, not for a lover or a relative? “No one,” they admitted, averting their eyes.

“No one?” they asked, confused. “O-oh. You’re here so often that I thought maybe they were for…a partner.”

“No…No partner,” Mhin replied, feeling a flush of heat rise up their neck. No partner, they thought, not that they were looking for one anyway…but the florist was kind of cute, at least…and they were nice, so it wouldn’t be unheard of to ask politely in return… “And what about you?”

“N-no,” they stammered, turning their gaze toward a bouquet of the reddest roses Mhin might have ever seen. “I’ve been busy with the shop, really, so I haven’t…found anyone. It’s hard in places like this to find someone with the same goals as you have, you know?”

“Right. That’s important, having the same goals,” Mhin repeated, nodding in understanding. They agreed, hoping their face didn’t show the relief that they felt in hearing that the florist was single. It was their chance to try something they weren’t prone to doing; just, hopefully, they weren’t being too forward. “How much for the dozen roses?”

“Seven copper.”

They rooted through their pockets and passed over the coins, taking the huge, bright bouquet with both hands. To their shock, their fingers brushed the florist’s bandaged hands, and a simmer of heat bubbled in their stomach. Not even skin-to-skin, and they could feel how chilly and clammy their palms were.

Without thinking further or allowing their nerves to well in their stomach, Mhin didn’t let the roses touch their chest before jutting them back out to the florist. “Here,” they said, their voice muffled behind the fabric of their collar. “Take them.”

They looked at the flowers with a furrowed brow. “Take them?”

“They’re for you,” Mhin said, feeling that bastardized heat rush to their cheeks. Why wouldn’t they just grab the damn bouquet and let them sprint away in embarrassment? “Put it in your room or something, but don’t sell them again. It’s a gift, so take it.”

Eyes lighting with a beauty Mhin had never seen before, they hugged the large bouquet against their chest, ignoring the thorns pricking at their shirt. “Really? No one’s ever given me flowers before.”

Now was Mhin’s turn to be confused. “But you sell them.”

“But that’s the thing. No one gives them to me because I have so many.” They grinned, stuffing their nose into the flowers and taking a deep breath, then releasing it high into the air. “Mm, thank you, Mhin. This is the greatest gift anyone’s given me in years.”

They struggled not to roll their eyes. Why did the florist have to be so…adorable? “You should be more careful acting like this in Eridia,” they warned. “People like to take advantage of people like you who act soft.”

Waving off the concern, they embraced the flowers again. “You’re always here though,” they said with a smile. “I know you’re strong, and you check up on me almost every day.”

“I’m not going to watch over you like that forever. I have things to do outside of buying flowers.” It was half of a lie; they’d been watching over the florist for ages now, making sure they got home safely in the evenings and that no one ruined their little shop. Clearly they had noticed or they wouldn’t have said anything. Was Mhin really that obvious with their interests? Ugh…

“Well, if you have time, maybe you can walk me home tonight?” the florist asked, a lilt of shyness and interest in their voice.

Mhin’s body froze for a moment before a scoff sneaked from their throat. “I told you, I have things to do.” But the look on their face betrayed them, because the florist let a small pout cross their pretty little lips. Giving into the temptation, Mhin sighed. “Fine. Six o’clock sharp, I’ll come back for you. Be ready, or else I’m leaving.”

They straightened their posture and bent over the table of flowers to take Mhin’s hands firmly in their own. The old bandages scratched their calloused skin. “Thank you! I’m so excited to see you! I’ll be more than ready!” they promised with the happiest grin Mhin thought they’d ever seen on a person before.

Grumbling and embarrassed, Mhin felt their hands automatically squeeze the florists—their first touch, and Mhin’s first touch from anyone outside of medical care in a long, long time. It felt…welcoming and nerve-wracking simultaneously.

And Mhin’s heart hurt in a way they hadn’t felt for a decade at least.

When they released each other, they tucked their face into their hood and crossed their arms. It wasn’t exactly a date, but—

“So it’s a date!” the florist said, setting their new bouquet of roses into a gaudy vase behind the countertop. “I’ll see you at six.”

“It’s a date,” Mhin repeated, biting their lips to stop from smiling in excitement. They had to hide it, but they looked forward to the meeting later in the day. Besides, maybe they’d be able to show off their strength—get them to grab their hand in surprise or fear at a roaming Soulless or gang member, not that they wanted to scare their new company. They simply wanted to keep the florist safe on the shitty streets of Eridia. If that meant a little hand-holding, then so be it.

So help them God, they’d be the best damn guard anyone ever had.

Henry Fisher arrives in Melbourne three days later than in canon. It's not a long time, but long enough. Long enough for dinner, for a night that can't be forgotten. And the following weeks are not the auspicious beginning they had hoped, but they still hope.

And then she has to fly her father home. But it's okay. The last time Jack had a new relationship interrupted by a journey to Europe... well, it will be different the second time around. As he watches her fly away, he has to believe that.
