I love a great AU concept, and the concept in this week's Fic Back Friday rec is absolutely wonderful.

Meet You at the End of the World by Comicsohwhyohwhy is one of the first Pynch AUs I remember reading and absolutely loving. Adam goes on a meditation retreat. It's supposed to be quiet. Calm. The problem is... there's an anger management retreat right next door and the anger management retreat keeps getting kinda loud as the attendees work through their aggression.

And who's attending the anger management retreat?

Ronan Lynch.

This one is so well written and so funny. I really, really love it, and I think it might be time for a reread. 😌

The Chipmunk Adventure - It’s got everything! Amazing musical numbers! Some of the most iconic lines of dialogue that I still quote regularly, particularly when I’m around my siblings! A scene with a baby penguin that makes me cry without fail! What more could you ask for??

Hey there, thanks a lot :D! I do definitely think Adam will have a bigger role than in Call Down the Hawk, for many reasons - first and foremost that he’s clearly set up with an arc there already at the very beginning and that it’d be very odd writing if that weren’t treated, especially also with the space that Adam’s friends were given there. So I fully expect him to embark on his arc of ‘maybe I do not have to lie to people in order to have friends’, and for that, he needs a bigger role and also a POV, and I fully expect that the Crying Club will also have a role. Add to that that of course he’s then also set up with a magical arc on top, with the Lace seeing him and him apparently disapearing towards the end of Call Down the Hawk. I also think that there’s many other reasons for him to have a bigger role - for example Maggie clearly wants Ronan’s and his relationship to be important moving forward, and to generally be healthy and all, and I’m very sure she isn’t going to break them up. And if you set up one party in the relationship with a huge arc of self-discovery, like the one Ronan is given, and make them change a lot, then you also need to do something with the other party in the relationship, they have to somehow also change and be part of that, or things would feel very imbalanced at the end. I simply don’t see Ronan discovering who he is and developing his abilities as a dreamer and finding a new community and then returning to Adam at the very end, who was ‘only’ at college and missed everything going on with Ronan, all the struggles and discoveries and magical shennanigans, and have that be a convincing happy ending. So yes, I definitely think he’ll have a bigger role, because everything else would be very odd writing and composition. However, if it’ll be a properly ‘big’ role - hard to tell. Maggie has many characters to juggle, there’s many leads already (Ronan, Jordan, Hennessy, Declan, Carmen), plus we know Matthew is gonna become a lead in the second book too. I would definitely hope that Adam’s arc would get the same weight as that of the other leads, but I can only speculate and hope at this point!

Shortly after Declan Lynch had taken charge of the Dream, he’d fired half the staff for ‘unsatisfactory behavior’ (such as dealing coke on the casino floor or sleeping with guests) and the casino’s desperate, overworked manager hadn’t looked too hard at Adam’s (entirely fabricated) resume, which was the only reason he’d landed a bartending gig as opposed to the barback position he’d applied for.

(it's hard to feel actively scared when you're having to watch the same ad for ellipticals every seven minutes)

current obsession(s): peppermint bark. I don't know what it is, but I actively dislike 99% of things that are mint flavored, and even if I enjoy the occasional mint chocolate chip ice cream or Andes mint candy it's very occasional...and then December rolls around and I cannot get enough fucking peppermint bark. Not candy canes! Not mint hot chocolate! Not literally one other thing that's peppermint, just bark! idk man.
