Currently Watching: Been making my way through One Piece with my bestie, although we're also making a detour for some Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works. I'm exposing him to all my favorite stuff.

Currently Reading: Not really reading any primarily text based stuff right now, but I have a huge list of manga that I'm reading on a weekly basis as new chapters come out. Gonna give a shout out to Marriage Toxin, a really cool shonen action series about an assassin trying to find a potential wife with the help of a marriage swindler.

Current Obsession: My Fate/franchise obsession is the current dominant hyper fixation. My TTRPG group is talking about rebooting my attempt to run a Fate tabletop game that everyone really liked, and thinking of ideas for it is kicking that hyper fixation into gear.

Update time

Hey there folks! Quick post here to update people on my situation and all that.

Some of you are probably already aware that I’ve been in the process of finding a place to live after some rather nasty dealings with an untrustworthy landlord. That’s the reason why posts here have been spotty at best; my internet connectivity has been pretty lacking over the past while. Well, I’m happy to announce that I’ve got a new place lined up and once the process is complete I’ll be able to get back into some more regular posting.

Meanwhile, I’ve been updating my decklist posts when I can, so they reflect recent changes. You can check out my decklist posts here, or click on the Decklists tab in my blog’s sidebar.

I’ve got a few things lined up for the future once I’m back online at a more regular rate. I’ve got a couple new decklists to post, and I’m working on a new article to expand on my previous ones about card selection. Hopefully I’ll be able to get everything sorted quickly, because I’m pretty excited to get back into the swing of it.

Thanks for hanging out, and expect to hear from me again soon.

Housekeeping

Some new backend changes have broken a bunch of formatting on my old decklists and article posts. I had it fixed previously but it looks like that fix no longer works, so I’m going over them again to try and get it back to my intention. Good thing it’s not too complicated, because I’m extremely out of practice with CSS. Hopefully things will be a little nicer for people checking the backlog once I can get everything taken care of again.

Again, unsolicited advice at random people I @ed, but I do read the notes on my post, and it has people announcing they are not going to upgrade windows, or use old versions. And that's a massive mistake, so big a mistake that I feel that it is my duty to give a word of warning. Admittedly at least one or two of the posts possibly are jokes, but for those who do mean it, ignore me at your own peril.

I have to drive home the point that using old unsupported versions of windows is not an option. It's a massive security risk, unless you never connect that machine to the internet. Windows because of its ubiquity is a prime target for malware, and it's full of security holes, and when you don't get updates, Microsoft is not going to plug those holes for you.

And using Windows 10 is fine for now, but is not going to be fine two years from now when Microsoft ends support. You have three options at that point that isn't a security nightmare: either unplug that computer from the internet forever, install a supported version of windows, or install linux.

This is a nightmarish dystopian future for windows. Glad i got off the Windows train.

nothing especially fancy honestly, just good old fashioned compounding layers of low odds that culminate in Great Frustration:

• Chansey can only be found in the Safari Zone and Cerulean Cave

• To be honest, I didn't know about the cave part until just now, since that's a post game cave and I don't generally bother with that kinda stuff, but the ability to encounter non-safari-zone chansey without bug abuse definitely makes it at least a smidge less obnoxious.

• but i didn't know about that until just now so we're going to talk about the safari zone instead

• the first problem comes from just finding the thing; from what I can tell you have anywhere from a 0-4% chance of encountering chansey in the safari zone, depending on which part of the zone you're in, so your odds of finding one in the first place are already difficult

• once you do find the thing you then have to catch it. because the safari zone is the safari zone you cannot lower its hp, and can only use Specific Safari Zone Pokeballs, which give you approximately a baseline 4% chance of catching it. whoop.

• "okay so just throw a lot of pokeballs or throw a rock at it to make it easier to catch" no, no. this is god's most terrified animal and will run away if you think ever so slightly too hard in its direction. Giving it food halves the likelihood that it flees (as well as that already low catch rate) but in my experience it usually just tends to leave after you give it food anyway because it hates you, specifically, or perhaps just me.

• frankly i've never been good at safari zone mechanics but given what i've read i cannot imagine your odds of catching the thing get all that much better if you play the intricate games of feeding the animal and hoping it doesn't run vs just throwing balls at the thing until you get lucky, which means throwing yourself at a wall until you win your two consecutive 4% chances in a row and catch the darn thing or run out of time in the safari zone

• also the safari zone is timed did i mention that. you could very easily pay for a ticket, spend all 500 steps just looking for the beast, and never find one and just get thrown out. Sorry!

• This is why i felt gen 1 chansey was Somewhat Egregious

• anyway the Cave Option: this is almost certainly much easier as you've a higher likelihood of encountering her in here apparently (5% or 10% dependant on floor and game version! oooh) and you can actually lower the thing's hp like a normal person, so hey! it'll probably still be a pain in the ass but at least it's actually somewhat practical. just don't physically attack it too hard or it will immediately deflate like the world's saddest egg

• but again, you cannot enter here until the post game (barring glitches but we're ignoring those for the moment) so if you want one before the Literal End Of The Game, it's safari time baybeee

• also i'm pretty sure it cannot flee in the wild so you've got that going for you but even still. 30 is not a kind catch rate to give a thing. you could certainly do worse: Mewtwo, the jerkass at the bottom of the aforementioned cave, has a catch rate of 3. but regardless of contextual rudeness 30 is still not especially nice. Feebas by comparison has the highest possible catch rate of 255, so literally the second you find one (which is, again, more a question of time than odds) you have an endless supply of the slippery bastards to draw from if you so desire.

like i feel like chansey in gen 1 is probably worse if not as bad, honestly, esp once you understand the mechanics involved with the fish it's mostly inevitable. vs chansey who is just Miserable

also if you rlly want to point to something exceedingly complicated to encounter the regis are like right there.
