WASHINGTON — For two years, Republicans hounded former President Joe Biden’s family for any evidence he participated in his son Hunter’s foreign business deals.
Lawmakers grilled witnesses about the Bidens’ phone habits, sifted through family bank records, hauled in Hunter Biden’s art dealer for questioning and even subpoenaed people who bought his paintings. Republicans swore they uncovered impeachable offenses, even if they uncovered no direct evidence of wrongdoing.
President Donald Trump, meanwhile, is openly inviting anyone to put money directly in his pockets by purchasing his crypto token. He’s rewarded the biggest spenders with direct access to himself personally.
By any reasonable standard, Trump’s self-enrichment is more contrary to ethical standards and norms of good governance than anything Joe Biden did. But House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) has a ready rationalization for why it’s OK.
“The difference, of course, is that President Trump does everything out in the open. He’s not trying to hide anything. There’s no shell companies or fake LLCs or fake family businesses. He’s putting it out there so everybody can evaluate for themselves,” Johnson said Sunday.
Scott Jennings, a CNN analyst who frequently defends the White House, offered a similar defense of Trump pardoning political allies, saying Thursday, “It’s being done out in the open. It’s being done in the light of day.”
It’s a variation of the frequent White House boast that Trump, by virtue of his frequent interactions with reporters, is the most transparent president in history, and especially so compared to the reclusive Biden.

The Lady and the Unicorn
This made the news a while ago, with the usual imbecile speculation on trademark infringement (that particular troll has no idea, of course, and I shall immediately explain what I think). Today, though, there seems to be some ironic reaction from S to the fact that Beyoncé's own white label bourbon, a supposed nod to her family's past, seems to closely mirror The Sassenach's bottle design:

People did not seem to have understood it at all, as they should have considered also the other story he immediately added to this one:

And of course, the Gay Troll went with her sad, tired, mendacious couplet about The Unicorn in the Room, heh. That particular cretin seems to have forgotten that a unicorn also means...

Or, for our beloved Spanish Mafia girls...

Of course, SS is still frolicking somewhere around the Minicorn Pasture (meaning that its market value would be, in my book, evaluated somewhere between 1 and 3 million USD - based on absolutely nothing else but common sense and my personal hunch), but his pun is just about S being confident that his business ventures will be successful, nothing more - as shown in the medals' story also featuring an unicorn, of course. And mark me, I see absolutely nothing hostile towards Beyoncé: it's just ironic and well, it has no legal implications whatsoever, as a design similarity does not qualify as a trademark or copyright infringement, except in very precise situations, such as when iconic brands are involved.
The above was not invented by me, but stated by the US Supreme Court, in its very recent (June 2023) decision in Jack Daniel’s Properties, Inc. v. VIP Products, LLC (you can read it all here, including Justice Kagan's very clear legal opinion on SCOTUS' interpretation: https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/22pdf/22-148_3e04.pdf). In a nutshell, the design of a product will always be protected by the provisions of the Lanham Act, only if unfair use (such as a parody of the product by a toy maker, as in Jack Daniel's decision, or a close copycat) could dilute a 'famous mark' (meaning by this either cause unjustified prejudice or cause confusion among the consumers). In all the other situations, the SCOTUS' legally binding precedent, in the Wal-Mart Stores, Inc v. Samara Brothers, Inc affair (2000), applies:

Or, in Justice Scalia's unanimous opinion: 'design, like color, is not inherently distinctive' . Neither that horse, nor that unicorn, are yet iconic and therefore the trademark infringement discussion is empty and void. As is the slanderous insinuation that SS copied a Japanese whisky brand's bottle design - Suntory's Hibiki being the brand quoted by the Mordorian experts.
If anything, Suntory's Hibiki eerily resembles that FMN gin bottle design - but why embarrass ourselves with facts, huh?

as compared to...

i love your taste in movies, do you have any recommendations for scary movies that are on streaming right now? i just moved and i'm planning to get a library card this weekend but until then i need something to tide me over :)
oh thank you!!! yes! this is just from taking a look around at some of the horror streaming guides i’ve seen online so hopefully these are accurate to which service they’re said to be on!
on netflix:
•train to busan (2016) is an all timer for me that i really think is just a masterpiece. even if you’re a little burned out on zombie media, i still say give train to busan a chance because it does zombies in a way that felt really refreshing and different. the characters in this movie are so well done and it makes me genuinely emotional every time i watch <3
•as above, so below (2014) is such a fun movie like omg….i simply was having the time of my life watching it. really leans into as many scares as it can possibly think of, doesn’t take itself or its subject matter too seriously, genuinely gives me sweaty palms sometimes with the claustrophobia of the paris catacombs. also has the rlly cute guy from cloverfield/super store who i have a big crush on
•some honorable mentions: zombieland (2009) is forever a comfort movie for me, scary stories to tell in the dark (2019) did a genuinely great job imo of adapting the book series, and pearl (2022) is just a great time
on HBO max:
•poltergeist (1982) is an underrated fav of mine <3 weirdly i think of it as like a family friendly horror movie? like i think you could sit down kids in front of poltergeist and they’d generally be okay, which i love and find so compelling in movies that genuinely are scary but also kinda work with younger viewers. feat. the iconic zelda rubinstein
•trick r treat (2007): THEEE halloween movie. its literally a movie ABOUT halloween and about the love of the holiday and the season. genuinely makes me feel so emotional about halloween and the beautiful lovely meaningful holiday it is for so many of us. just a fun campy time, everything ties together in such a clever way, and sam is a little baby. what more could you want?
•honorable mentions: of course the scream franchise (1-4) are classics and so worthy of rewatching, and i’ll recommend open water (2003) because to me it is absolutely terrifying and i find myself thinking about it very often
on hulu:
•the omen (1976) always hits for me. i love this movie and find it so effective in its horror. i LOVE a creepy kid. a bit of the omen trivia: in the final shot, damien wasn’t originally intended to be smiling. he was supposed to look dead ahead at the camera. but the actor was told to be serious and look stern, which made him giggle, so the smile at the end is genuine in that he was trying to suppress a laugh. they kept it because it came across so sinister and tonally perfect in the context of the movie :)
•sea fever (2020) listen no one EVER talks about this movie but i was blown away by it. ocean horror is one of my moms fav subgenres so if we can find a horror movie about the ocean you better believe we will be watching. i thought the concept of this movie and its monster (? if you can call it that) were so fresh and original. compared to its predecessors like leviathan or deep star six, i honestly think sea fever is more effective in its scares
•honorable mentions: hulu has so many good choices! alien (1979) and the fly (1986) are obviously beloved classics for a reason. also if you’re looking for a series, castle rock is near and dear to my heart and is very well done
on prime:
•hell house llc (2015) is another one of those classic Halloween movies to me like it truly is a love letter to the holiday…mwah. found footage is my fav subgenre and this movie does it very well. it has one of the most effective scares that truly took my breath away upon first watch and stuck with me ever since
•10 cloverfield lane (2016): ohhh the cloververse my beloved….i often speak highly of cloverfield (2008) because it’s one of my absolute favorite movies of all time, but i don’t as often talk about 10 cloverfield. not sure why tbh because i love it as well! holy FUCK john goodman is scary in this. it truly sets up a horrifying situation, does so much with a small limited environment, and again john goodman has me shakin in my boots. you don’t have to have seen cloverfield to watch this one! you can watch em out of order no problem
•honorable mentions: of course the thing (1982) is immaculate and gets me every single time. just getting reports right now that lisa frankenstein (2024) is already on prime, HIGHLY recommend, wish i could go back in time to the day i watched this in theaters alone in a new windbreaker i had just thrifted and felt so at peace
honorable streaming service mention: shudder is worth a subscription if you’re wanting to go all in on horror this halloween season. it’s got such a fun eclectic collection and amazing movies like late night with the devil (2024) and series like history of horror
#tried to do a little mix of the more classic recommendations with some that may not come up as often!#out of everything on this list i would honestly highlight sea fever and hell house llc if you’re wanting to branch out#i think watching these smaller and lower budget films is really what partaking in the genre is all about#watching how well people can scare you when you’re least expecting it!#answered#anon

May 25, 2025
Marc Elias
I’ve written about many difficult topics over the years, but none compare to this.
My loyal companion Bode passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, from canine lymphoma — just one month shy of his ninth birthday. I know everyone thinks their dog is the best but Bode truly was the best dog ever.
Bode bounded into my life in July 2016 and never left my side. During the final months of the 2016 campaign, he was my regular companion — from my office in Washington, D.C., to the Clinton headquarters in Brooklyn, where I would sneak him in by putting him in a bag, he was eager to go everywhere with me. I took him to meet Senators and presidential candidates.

Bode in 2016.
He was with me through the heartbreak of 2016 election loss and celebrated with me the victories in 2018 and 2020. The morning after the 2024 election, he was ready to face the world as if nothing had gone wrong. He helped me do the same.
When my children left for college, Bode stayed. When I prepared to argue before the Supreme Court, Bode was at my feet. When I founded Democracy Docket, Bode was more than present — he was part of its DNA, making regular appearances in our newsletters.
He was everywhere in my life: the first to greet me each morning and the last to say goodnight. He was happy when I came home and was stoic when I left. For my birthday one year, my wife gave me the perfect gift — a life-size sculpture of Bode.
As my public profile grew, so did his. He became my social media avatar and the wallpaper on my phone and computer. His photos filled the background when I appeared on cable news. Once, a producer asked me to remove them — I refused and never returned to that show. By the time the 2024 election came around, he was a democracy icon in his own right.

Bode on Election Night 2020.
Bode even had his own fans. They wanted to know how to say his name (BOH-dee), what breed he was (Portuguese Water Dog). But mostly, they just wanted to tell me how lucky I was that he was in my life. They were right.
I was hesitant to write this obituary. Struggle as I might, I don’t have a grand life lesson of his life; nor I any clear meaning to make of his death. I’m just heartbroken that he’s gone.
The one thing I’m grateful for is that his death wasn’t sudden. Bode was diagnosed with canine leukemia last November. He began chemotherapy right away. Thanks to the extraordinary care of his veterinarians, we had six high quality months together.
We took advantage of every moment of that time to spoil him shamelessly. Every small act earned a treat: waking up, going out, coming back in, bedtime — treat, treat, treat. Whatever Bode wanted to do, is what I wanted as well. If he wanted a walk, so did I. If he wanted to rest, that was fine too.

Bode meeting Senator Cory Booker in 2019.
As the months passed, it was clear that the cancer was taking a toll. He lost hair, weight, and eventually, energy. Then, in April, the cancer returned with force. We tried a new chemo protocol, but within weeks, it was obvious the end was near.
We continued to focus on making every moment count. Soon, however, those moments dwindled. He stopped eating. He was tired. It became clear: Bode had given us everything he could.
Last week, he let us know he was ready. On Wednesday night, he was back at the emergency vet. His body had given out. There were few options left and none that were good. After hearing from the vet, my wife and I made the hardest decision.
Bode died peacefully on May 20, 2025.
He was, quite simply, the best dog ever.

Bode in my office.

FREE No Effort Palestine Activism
(!!!Zionists hate this easy and simple trick!!!)
What you need
A device with a social media app (like YouTube)
A channel that uses ad revenue to fund Palastine donations and efforts such as Artistic Antics LLC on YouTube
Time
(Optional) A playlist of such videos

All you need to do for this is just to put on the video, mute it, and leave it in the background.
That's it.
You can literally help survive a genocide families while napping or taking a massive dump.
You might have to shake your cursor or tap the screen once in a while (or click the "Yes I'm still watching" button for platforms like YouTube) but that's literally it. (Though there may be extensions to remove that I'm not sure.)
Can be used for stuff like Ukraine, Yemen and other fundraising efforts as well!
Additional stuff you can do for good spoon days 👇👇
Additional ways to increase ad revenue for the video:
Liking
Commenting (you can literally just post quotes the bee movie script or talk about how your day was. Doesn't matter)
Sharing (most valued by algorithm)
For sharing, you can just click 'copy link' without actually sharing the video. You can also copy link on top of sharing the video with other friends or to those group chats that only contain you that you actually use as a grocery list or a place where you save cool videos.
Remember, viewer retention for YouTube is key. Not sure about other social platforms, though since I don't use them oops!
Ideas on what to do in the mean time:
Fixing phone a addiction (something I do). Do this while challenging yourself to not look at your phone for x number of minutes/hours. I've found that helping the Palestinian families while doing this actually motivates to keep to my goals!
Touching grass/going for a walk (I like setting up challenging myself by making myself walk for x amount of videos helps build up stamina/determination.)
Doing your homework on a separate device (stops from being tempted by doom scrolling 💀)
Using the videos as a timer/goal for exercises ("I'll stop planking after x number of videos finish" "I'll see how many crunches within the span of this video")
For laptop only users, doing something else on another tab. Don't mute the video using that speaker toggle thingy like a boomer. Just the tab itself. Mute the tab itself (left click the tab it's on and click "Mute Tab".)
Godtier Additional Help:
If you're able to, you can also set up your own YouTube channel, adopt a varified family or use funds to donate to reputable charities like Unicef. From your videos, others will be able to use your videos to generate ad revenue.
This post was entirely inspired by Artistic Antics LLC and not really my idea, so kudos to them. They're literally the best, please please please check their soap making YouTube Channel and their soap store out!
Rambing:
Now, as someone who regularly has really bad seasons when caused by various disabilities, circumstances and other mental health issues, keeping up activism can be a really challenging thing. Even thinking about the absolute codswallop going on in Palastine can be extremely risky on my worse days.
Outside of mental health and disabilty stuff, keeping up consistent and regular activism can easily lead to burn out.
Remember this: suffering is not moral. Even if whatever we may be experiencing may be a drop compared to what Palastinians may be experiencing but staying in suffering or 'muscling through' burnout is not the answer. In fact, it can actually make things worse. Using tools like this can help you to persevere so please use them.
Ignoring your own wounds won't make others' wounds disappear. Neglecting them will, in fact, get in the way of helping.
Please share with the class if you have more ideas or other easy activism ideas!

Blog #4 Under the Northern Lights: Interpreting Nature's Gift of Beauty
When thinking about the idea of interpreting nature through art, the Northern Lights come to mind. The way their colours dance across the black sky feels like nature's perfect painting but in motion. When asked “who am I to interpret nature through art?” It genuinely got me stuck thinking of how to write about such a breathtaking phenomenon. The Northern Lights speak for themselves, how can one even possibly enhance its beauty that's already perfect? Through this week's readings, I've discovered that nature interpretation is just about enhancing nature's beauties; it's about creating deep connections for yourself and others. As stated in the textbook, interpretation is about creating new emotional connections and engagement with nature (Beck et al., 2017). My experience with the Northern Lights was more than a visual experience, it was emotional. I was starstruck and to this day still, something about the colours dancing across the sky kept me mesmerized. Therefore, it's the personal connection I have with this amazing phenomenon that makes me capable of sharing this moment with others.
The first time I ever saw the Northern Lights was in Timmins, visiting my grandpapa. I remember it was freezing outside and the sky was completely clear when I saw the green, purple and blue lights dancing along the sky. I was so mesmerized, feeling calm and sane. Additionally, not only did I form a new connection but in that moment I felt how small I am compared to the universe, which was such a humbling experience. To this day I wish I was able to capture a photo of it but my memorie of it is so clear that I don’t need one. So, who am I to interpret nature through art? I am someone who has a deep connection to the impact that nature gives from my own experiences. I believe this connection can allow me to guide others into the same space I feel when looking at the Northern Lights. Furthermore, it's not about putting my perspective on others, but it's about creating their own moment where they feel drawn. As an interpreter, I am not aiming to speak for nature but to help the audience hear and see what it has to offer. For example the Northern lights cannot be reinterpreted, but as the role of an interpreter I would love to create that space for others to form their own connection to it and be able to witness it.
How I interpret “the gift of beauty” is its ability to invite us to slow down, reflect and feel what nature has to offer. It's more than to see but to feel the world around us. When I see the Northern Lights, it was more than just the colours dancing in the sky; it was the unexpectedness of the emotional wave I felt and wanted to share with others. Therefore, as a role of interpreter, I would help others feel the beauty of nature, creating a safe space for them to connect and feel in awe, just as I did under the Northern Lights.

When you’re a novelist bargaining with five publishing houses, or a filmmaker bargaining with four studios, or a musician bargaining with three labels, or a games author bargaining with two mobile app stores, or an audiobook creator bargaining with one audiobook store, then getting more copyright doesn’t make you any better off.
Giving more copyright to a creative worker under those circumstances is like giving your bullied schoolkid extra lunch money. It doesn’t matter how much lunch money you give your kid — the bullies are just going to take it.
In those circumstances, giving your kid extra lunch money is just an indirect way of giving the bullies more money. Give the bullies enough money and they’ll be able to afford an international ad campaign:
Think of the hungry children!
Give them more lunch money!
The idea of protecting creators with individual, bargainable rights reframes us not as workers but as businesses: LLCs with MFAs. Our negotiations with our bosses are B2B: just two artificial persons, each with its own EIN, facing each other down across a board-room table.
But the individual creative worker who bargains with Disney-ABC-Muppets-Pixar-Marvel-Lucasfilm-Fox is not in a situation comparable to, say, Coca-Cola renewing its sponsorship deal for Disneyland.
For an individual worker, the bargain goes like this: “We’ll take everything we can, and give you as little as we can get away with, and maybe we won’t even pay you that.”

The ignorant will stay ignorant and envious (& attempt to grow envy).
I don’t have a yacht, BUT I could use my single owner LLC to buy a boat (business expense), and then use that boat (even if it’s a hole-ridden, scuzzy paddle boat or John boat) to go fishing with clients (business expense…travel incl mileage, gas, food, time, expenses, boat gas, boat and car maintenance) and talk business and anything else. There are SO many business deductions and tax incentives compared to just personal income and living. So, USE THE SYSTEM and level up your finances and your game.
The envious are Have Not by choice. Because they’re lacking, they want everyone else to be lacking.
Don’t join that crowd. Put in the work and level up. Do more with more. Help your family and help others.

Arthur Delaney at HuffPost:
In the final report of their impeachment inquiry last year, Republicans said “overwhelming evidence demonstrates that President Biden participated in a conspiracy to monetize his office of public trust to enrich his family.” Biden allegedly participated by “attending dinners with his family’s foreign business partners and speaking to them by phone, often when being placed on speakerphone by Hunter Biden.” Last week, Trump hosted a dinner at his Virginia golf club for the 225 top purchasers of his $TRUMP meme coin, including several who told reporters they hoped to influence the president. One attendee had already seen fraud charges dismissed after he invested in a separate crypto venture backed by the Trump family.
Republicans when Joe Biden is “corrupt”: The sky is falling.
Republicans when Donald Trump is corrupt: look the other way or excuse it.
