Just imagine these fanfic possibilities
Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble, during their weekend soak at the hot springs outside Bedrock, including some bonding-type frottage as part of the routine to make things feel livelier and release more of their inner tensions....
Given the almost-constant water temperatures close to 65 degrees of the nearby river, Maw Rugg and her son Shag are practically able to have their underwater breast-feeding bonding exercises and swimming lessons practically through the chill of the winter months....
Penelope Pitstop perhaps being rather right to sense that her Wacky Races rival Peter Perfect is nothing but a boorish jerk and a showoff, rivalled in sheer attention-seeking crudity only by Dick Dastardly....
Jane Jetson being the sort to deploy bluescreen to assist in computer-aided dress modelling as part of the space-age fondness for "fast fashion," and then more or less for fun when she senses such may really be a boorish waste....
Mr. Peebles collapsing spontaneously after yet another failed attempt to offer Magilla Gorilla as a housepet ends in buyer's remorse yet again, requiring Peebles to be in hospital for some time and Magilla to be even more adventurous in the brave new world out there....
Imagine the possibility of Mr. Peebles and Chief Winchley, the manager and emcee at Bubbleland, being Most Unlikely Cousins considering their common dread of certain animals in their charge (respectively, Magilla Gorilla and Squiddly Diddly), and the potential for Reputational Harm and Injury subsequently ensuing....
During one of Top Cat's clowder's first dive sessions off Catalina with the Catalina Diving Clowder, Brain couldn't help but sense some serious arousal underwater, which amused the diver queens of The Magic Isle all the more as much as fascinated Brain "himself"....

Computer-Aided Engineering, AI and the Bad News
Models are only models. Remember how many assumptions one must make to write a partial differential equation (PDE) describing the vibrations of a simple beam? The beam is long and slender, the constraints are perfect, the displacements are small, shear effects are neglected, rotational inertia is neglected, the material is homogenous, the material is elastic, sections remain plane, loads are…

Constructing Excellence: How 3D Engineering Applications Revolutionize Workflow Management
Tumblr media
In the realm of construction, efficiency, accuracy, and collaboration are key factors that determine the success of a project. Traditional methods of construction management often involve intricate paper-based plans, complex communication channels, and a higher probability of errors. However, with the advent of 3D engineering applications, the construction industry has witnessed a transformative shift towards more streamlined and effective workflow management.
The Evolution of Construction Workflow Management
Historically, construction projects were managed through manual processes that relied heavily on physical drawings, blueprints, and handwritten documents. This approach often led to miscommunications, discrepancies between design and execution, and delays in project completion. As technology progressed, Computer-Aided Design (CAD) systems revolutionized the way designs were created and shared, but the inherent two-dimensionality still posed limitations in visualizing complex structures accurately.
Enter 3D engineering applications. These sophisticated software solutions allow architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to create, collaborate on, and manage construction projects in a three-dimensional virtual environment. This technology leverages Building Information Modeling (BIM), a process that integrates 3D geometry, spatial relationships, geographic information, and building component data into a comprehensive digital representation of the project.
Benefits of 3D Engineering Applications in Construction Workflow Management
 1. Enhanced Visualization
3D models offer a more accurate and comprehensive visualization of the project, enabling stakeholders to understand the design intent more effectively. This visualization aids in identifying potential clashes, interferences, and design flaws before the construction phase, saving time and resources.
 2. Improved Collaboration
3D engineering applications facilitate enhanced collaboration among project stakeholders. Design teams, architects, engineers, contractors, and clients can access the same model, providing a shared platform for discussion, feedback, and decision-making. Real-time collaboration reduces errors and minimizes delays caused by miscommunications.
 3. Clash Detection and Conflict Resolution
One of the significant advantages of 3D engineering applications is automated clash detection. These applications identify clashes between different building systems (e.g., mechanical, electrical, plumbing) and structural elements early in the design phase, allowing teams to address conflicts before they manifest in the field.
 4. Efficient Construction Planning
3D models provide an accurate representation of the project, enabling construction teams to plan and sequence tasks more effectively. This leads to optimized construction workflows, reduced downtime, and increased efficiency on the job site.
 5. Resource Allocation and Budgeting
With 3D engineering applications, project managers can accurately estimate the quantity of materials required, which helps in budgeting and resource allocation. This reduces the likelihood of overruns and unforeseen expenses.
 6. Risk Mitigation
The ability to simulate construction processes and identify potential risks allows teams to develop strategies for risk mitigation. This proactive approach minimizes disruptions and ensures the safety of workers and the project itself.
 7. Progress Tracking and Reporting
3D models can be used to track the progress of construction against the original design and schedule. This visual tracking provides a clear understanding of project milestones and helps in generating accurate reports for stakeholders.
 8. Facility Management and Maintenance
After construction, the 3D model can be handed over to facility management teams. These teams can use the model to manage building operations, plan maintenance activities, and make informed decisions throughout the building's lifecycle.
 Challenges and Implementation
While the benefits of 3D engineering applications are evident, their successful implementation requires addressing certain challenges:
1. Learning Curve: Adapting to new software and workflows can be challenging for construction professionals accustomed to traditional methods. Training and support are crucial to ensuring a smooth transition.
2. Data Management: Managing the large volume of data associated with 3D models requires robust data management systems and practices.
3. Software Integration: Integrating 3D engineering applications with other construction management software (e.g., project management, scheduling) is essential for seamless workflow management.
4. Hardware and Software Requirements: Running sophisticated 3D applications requires powerful hardware and software, which might necessitate investments.
5. Collaboration and Communication: Effective collaboration relies on strong communication practices. Establishing clear communication channels and protocols is vital.
 Conclusion
3D engineering applications have revolutionized construction workflow management by providing accurate visualization, improved collaboration, clash detection, and enhanced planning capabilities. By embracing these technologies, the construction industry can significantly reduce errors, save time, optimize resource allocation, and mitigate risks. Despite challenges, the potential for increased efficiency, reduced costs, and improved project outcomes makes the integration of 3D engineering applications a compelling proposition for modern construction projects.

Hey spider, I’ve been by your tumblr several times in the last day to help keep myself grounded. I wanted to say thanks and pass along my own thoughts to others checking in.
This fucking sucks and I hate it. But this moment feels very different to me than 2016. Not that I feel *great* about weathering the next four+ years, but, I’m not collapsing in despair either.
Fact is we survived four years of this, we had four years of relative “peace,” and it’s back into the shitstorm. The situation is different, more dire, yes, but we’re also different, too. We survived and we have lessons to glean from that to apply to our future.
Your job, if that frame is helpful for you, is to look at what you can offer your community and start cultivating opportunities to help other people.
Are you strong? I helped an older gentleman recycle heavy boxes of papers (by heaving them into a dumpster for him) and that lit up my MONTH.
Can you do dishes? There is an elder in your community who could use the help (and the company!).
Do you not go to church, on Sundays or otherwise? There may be a hospice center that needs volunteers to stay with patients while their people are at Sunday services.
Do you have a car and some time? Maybe you can do pickups for food banks or other types of food rescue work.
Do you know spreadsheets? Hoo boy. Everybody needs somebody who can do spreadsheets.
These are ideas of where you might start. But the real work is to cultivate relationships of goodwill and good faith with others in your community. Start talking to organizations, look for people who are already embedded, doing good work. Look for role models, people who connect: people to other people, people to resources. Don’t be afraid to speak up when you need help, yourself – strong relationships are reciprocal. People need each other *so badly,* and in ways our culture does not equip us to understand.
Show up where and when you can and be ready to hold the hands of others. It’s going to be hard, but you can develop the skills and the relationships to make it through.
thanks again, spider.
This is good advice.
One thing I heard today that cracked me up - I was listening to Gianmarco Soresi's podcast today, and he has Brennan Lee Mulligan on this episode. Brennan was talking about how he ran a load of diapers over to Rekha at one point bc she was collecting stuff for LA wildfires aid, and when he got home, his wife, Izzy, was sitting at her computer and going through Zillow and researching rental listings and reporting listings to the authorities who are breaking CA rent control laws. (In CA, there are limits to how much you can raise the rent on a unit at one time/within a certain period of time.)
Like... that's a thing that she could do while she was sitting at her computer being at home with the baby while Brennan ran an errand that did measurable good in the world. Reporting predatory landlords does real, measurable good.
What's important is not that you're doing the most good or the most important good. What's important is that you Find Something To Do That Helps and you Do That Thing.

williams is a new territory. his co-head engineers is an interesting idea, until he meets you, and learns of why he needs someone else on the radio.
haring impaired!williams engineer reader x carlos sainz
Tumblr media
James was far too excited to have Carlos here so god damn early. But, as Carlos knew, the racing world didn't wait for anybody. Engineers dipped in and out of rooms, hands flicking as the spoke, heads nodding or shaking along with ideas or with procedures.
"And here," James grandly gestures to the small team that's working on installing Carlos' newly fitted seat into the shell of a car, "is team fifty-five."
A few heads pop up from his new mechanics, analysts, engineers, a few waves Carlos returns before James is bringing him to the side where a large computer is set up. Two people sitting at the screen. The man turns his head, smiling warmly in greeting as the person next to him--you, keeps her head down and scribbles some notes on a drawing of the car.
"This is YN, the one writing, and Luca. Both pulled in from Ferrari, from junior Engineers to senior. Figured a fresh start would be best for all of us until we can secure more full season contracts for your team." James explains and Carlos feels entrapped by you, watching the way your tongue darts out for a moment as you think, before your head goes right back down.
"Two head engineers?" Carlos asks softly, after shaking Luca's hand in greeting. James nods to Luca, and he turns and quickly taps the desk next to you, and you perk up and unplug your airbuds... or something similar.
"YN is hard of hearing, Luca's makes sure she doesn't miss anything. YN doesn't usually, and she'll understand you well as long as she can read your lips." James explains, and you nod.
"Don't be afraid to talk to me," You say, folding your hands in your lap, "Most people just ask Luca but he hates talking to people."
"I do." Luca nods, face red, "I'd rather be hiding. YN will speak to you on the pit wall. The board connects right to her hearing aids."
"Oh, thats really nice." He says and you nod, bursting into a explanation that has your face all bright and smiley and god damnit if it doesn't make his heart skip. After a moment, James pulls Carlos away, but your looks linger a little longer after that.
-
Two weeks in and Carlos knows some BSL. He practices to himself most nights in the hotel, signing over and over: drag, lift, broken, okay, the alphabet, basic letters, and the signs he's noticed you do for over and understeering. He doesn't need to know BSL to communicate with you, your hearing aids and lip reading have been working just fine for two weeks before testing days, but he figures it might be easier--and a nice little secret to have, on days where the garage is swimming with noise.
Alex has picked up more than he has, and while Carlos is a little envious at Alex's ability to just absorb, it's not like he's practicing sentences.
Which Carlos has been. Simple ones so far, but he finds it so enchanting when you and Luca go off on BSL tangents, the little secret code of your hand gestures and expressions so amazing to him.
Day one of testing is by far the longest day of your and Carlos' life. You both sit there pouring over data and models, running simulation after simulation while Carlos pokes at every level of information you have and questions it. Luca watches you both silently, noting the way Carlos hangs on your suggestions and you nod at his inputs.
Neither of you break for lunch, pushing aside the catered meals to look over more data from the rear wing. By the time the mechanics came back, you had a whole new wing plan. Same with dinner plans. But you're kicked out of the track by midnight, the last two people closing up shop, still talking about designs and new plans as you both stand next to each other from the second you leave to the second you get into the lobby of the hotel.
You bid Carlos goodnight, but read his lips as the batteries on your hearing aids are dangerously low.
Day two is the same. You and Carlos wake up excessively early, are the first ones there, but mid way through the day you notice something. Your hearing aids are fucking dead.
Carlos comes into the garage with a grin, chattering to you about something exciting, but his lips move so quickly and differently from British accented words you lose him.
Carlos blinks. Pause. And then nervously signs, 'fixed the understeer.'
You blink. Pause. And then break into a grin, whacking his arms.
"Good job." You say, though you aren't sure how loud, before holding up a finger for him to wait as you rush to your purse and dig out the back-up batteries. It takes a few seconds for you to find them in the bottom corner of the bag--but you pop them in and adjust the volume a bit before rushing back over.
"Sorry! They died!" You tap the hearing aids and Carlos nods, smiling to you with a little tilt of his head, "When did you learn to sign?"
Carlos' cheeks are a little red as he shrugs, "I don't know if I did it well, but I've been practicing for a bit. It's always so loud in here, I don't know how you hear everything."
You shrug, tilt your head, "You get used to picking out the important noises, it's not that much different from you."
Over the next few months, as you and Carlos adapt to the car and to the team, you find he's picked up more and more sign language. You idly teach him some in his spare time, words slowly drifting from racing notes to everyday phrases, to names for people across the tracks, to jokes. By Monaco, you've taught him enough for semi-fluency, and you don't know how he's managed to pick up a whole new language so quickly but you're not complaining.
It happens after Monaco quali. You're sitting on the floor of his drivers room while he's being stretched out post race, your hands moving idly along with your words as you speak, Carlos watching intently. There's been a shift, you note, and when Carlos' holds hand for you to pause, you do.
'Going to dinner tonight?' his signs are a little wobbly, but you get the gist.
'At the hotel, maybe.'
Carlos hesitates for probably a whole thirty seconds before, 'Want to go out? Only us two.'
'A date?'
'Yes.'
You blink. Then slap his hands with a loud laugh--Teto leaning his head back to look at you two from the other side of the room, the other various 55 members chuckling at the exchange.
'You learned sign just to ask that didn't you?' You keep the conversation silent, but the smirk on Carlos' face probably tells everyone what you're both conversing.
'Maybe.' His smirk doubles and you flush. Somehow, Carlos has done the most thoughtful thing, by doing the most basic thing at the same time.

Hobbies and sub-hobbies
I've been working on implementing a sub-hobby system in my game recently and really enjoying it! I took a look at the different activities available for different hobbies and came up with my list, which I thought I'd share here.
I do have some mods that change the hobby enthusiasm of some objects, or add new ones - I'll link where applicable.
I don't assign these based on any system, just vibes. I usually stick with whatever hobby the game assigns, but I do sometimes change them if it really feels like it doesn't fit to me. The sub-hobbies are intended to be a main focus, but Sims can and will still try other aspects of their overall hobby, and other hobbies altogether sometimes too!
The list is a work in progress but I'm basically happy with it now.
Edit: I found a version of the punching bag that gives fitness enthusiasm instead of sports, and that activity makes more sense to me as a fitness thing, so I moved that sub-hobby over.
Edit 2: Combined a couple gaming subhobbies into "Social Games" and added MyShuno to that category.
Edit 3: Combined sewing and knitting into Fibre Arts under Arts & Crafts hobbies.
Edit 4: Added candlemaking to the Arts & Crafts category.
Cuisine
Cooking
Baking
Wine & Cocktails
Foodie (restaurants, delivery)
Films & Literature
Reading
Writing (helpful but not necessary to also have this mod)
Movies
Tinkering
Restoring & Repairing (restorable car, general repairs, plus drafting blueprints thanks to a mod)
Woodworking (here and here)
Tinker Toys (RC cars, model trains, toy workbench)
Sports
Soccer
Basketball
Sports Fan (watching sports)
Golf (Execuputter reward object made buyable)
Baseball
Football
Music & Dance
Dancing
Ballet
Piano/Keyboard
Synthesizer
Violin
Singing
Guitar
Bass
Drums
Fitness
Swimming
Lifting & Cardio
Yoga
Boxing (with modded hanging bag from here - unlocked buyable punching bag still gives sports hobby, but it seems more like a fitness thing to me as a solo activity)
Arts & Crafts
Painting
Pottery
Photography (hugely aided by the buyable antique camera and Epi and PF's camera overhaul mod)
Fibre Arts (sewing, knitting with Eisbaer's edit of TonyVeis' 4t2 mod)
Candlemaking
Science
Stargazing/Aliens
Biotech (buyable Biotech station and microscopes with science enthusiasm added)
Robotics (this mod makes robotics science related which makes far more sense to me)
Games
Video Games (console, handheld, computer, arcade games)
Board Games (chess, Don't Wake the Llama, mahjong)
Social Games (darts, poker, pool, bowling, MyShuno)
Nature
Entomology (hunting bugs, catching fireflies and butterflies)
Animals (small pets like womrats, birds, koi fish, bird watching)
Gardening (harvestable crops, orchard trees - I play with perfect plants mod so they don't have to maintain flowers and shrubs)
Outdoorsy (fishing, hiking, camping, cloud watching)
Flower Arranging (this mod changes the enthusiasm on the flower bench to nature)

Streamer AU 6
Number 5 <-
Weiss:*rolls into view*….I’ve returned.
Yang:The bitch is back.
Weiss:Wow! Okay, rude. It’s not like I really left. I was in your streams all the time. I just don’t feel like doing my own after missions.
Yang:And yet somehow you still have more subscribers than me.
Photo Bunny gifted 30 subs
Weiss:Oh my gods! Velvet, thank you so much!
Yang:And the rich get richer!!!
Weiss:She says, knowing I’m not rich anymore.
Yang:And yet the money still pours in. Chat, make her play a horror game for being gone for so long.
“Yes!”
“PLEASE!”
“Alien Isolation.”
Weiss:Absolutely not. We have plans already. I’m just waiting for my co-host.
Yang:What am I then?
Weiss:A person who saw me hit the “live” button and immediately hopped into call to call me a bitch.
Yang:It’s in all in good love.
The Reaper: “Ayo! Look who’s back!”
Yang:Ruby, call Weiss a bitch.
Weiss:I’ll un-mod you. I’ve learned to do that recently.
Ruby: *enters call* Oh gods, chat, she’s learning computers. Tech savvy Weiss is dangerous. Who taught her such power?
Weiss:Your girlfriend.
Ruby:Oh, sorry chat. My girl can do no wrong.
Protector of Friendship: “💚”
Ruby:What’s the gameplan today? “Just chatting?” We can play Uno again.
Weiss:You hate teamwork. I swear you do.
Yang:Sends us on a life threatening mission where trust is needed, just to ruin it a day later.
Thunder Thighs: “How was mission? Everyone okay?”
Weiss:It was just bandits. Lots and lots of them. Unfortunately they ruined a village so most of the expenses went to rebuilding the town.
Yang:Chat, this woman is only on camera right now because her power bill is scaring her. This cute face has a price tag.
Weiss:Hey! I actually missed gaming. It’s oddly relaxing when I don’t listen to Ruby’s suggestions. Or Blake’s.
Ninja of Love: “League actually isn’t that bad.”
Ruby:That’s what I’m saaaaaying!
Yang:Don’t listen to them. They’re ill and can’t be cured.
Weiss:*looks at scroll*…Oh, I’ll be right back. Yang, you’re in charge. *gets up*
Ruby:Why not me?
Weiss:Because Yang doesn’t play League!
Ruby:You two lack vision. The four of us could be our own team! We could grab a few more friends and train for tournaments.
Ren: *enters call* Ruby, you are way too toxic for that. *leaves call*
Yang:Hahahahaha!
Ruby:You can’t just show up to say that!?
Weiss walks back into view rolling a second chair next to her. She’s then handed a coffee cup she gladly sips as she sits back down, all nice and cozy. Sitting next to her is Jaune, chilling in her merch hoodie as he waves.
Jaune:Hello…
“Whaaaat?”
“Oh it’s the guy.”
“Hi Jaaaaaaune!”
“Nerd alert”
“Co-host?”
Yang:I can’t believe you chose the other blonde over me. How cruel. What does he have I don’t?
Jaune:*holds up Kingdom Hearts*
Ninjas of Love: “FINALLY!”
Yang:..I would’ve bought it.
Ruby:Alright, maybe you chose better than Uno.
Weiss:Okay everyone, you can guess tonight’s game. It’s not like it hasn’t won several polls.
Ruby:Oh! Oh! Weiss, sub goal idea! 80 subs and you have to do a cover of the opening!
Weiss:I haven’t even heard it yet!
Jaune:You might like it more than the song from FFX.
Weiss:….
Yang:She’s setting you up for success.
Weiss:…We will circle back to that. Speaking of FFX, same rules apply. I don’t need back-seating from chat. My wonderful co-host here will help manage the stream and aid me with anything I ask.
Blake: *enters call* Jaune, what version is that?
Jaune:It’s from the 1.5 collection, so final mix. Post the patch.
Blake:You’re a good man.
Weiss:Do you want the camera on you or is that uncomfortable?
Jaune:I’m okay. This setup is nice.
Ruby:Questions like these wouldn’t be an issue if you got a VTube model. Penny could hook you up.
Weiss:I only recently learned how to fix normal PC problems. Don’t put that burden on me.
Yang:What does OBS stand for?
Weiss:I saved your life yesterday. What’s your damage with me?
Big Bags & Miniguns: “Is this the mystery boyfriend we’ve been searching for?”
Weiss:Cocoa, you’ve known Jaune forever. He’s always been around as a mod.
Thunder Thighs: “That wasn’t a no.”
Jaune:I literally showed my copy of the game. You all know why I’m here.
Cardinal Pride: “As if she’d date someone as lame as-
Message Deleted
Photo Bunny: “Please remember the chat guidelines before typing”
Ruby:I would’ve blocked him.
Weiss:He gets one more chance. I’m in a good mood.
Jaune:That’s the Kingdom Hearts spirit. *puts disc in*
Weiss:This won’t make me cry like Final Fantasy did, will it?
Blake:Oh….sweetie….
Weiss:*inhales* Great.
Yang:I already made a crude layout for the singing goal. I swear graphic designers should be thankful I like cars and fighting Grimm more.
Jaune:Don’t have any lower goals?
Weiss:I’m 20 away from having to cosplay a character from a game I’ve played. They also get to vote on an emote.
BB&MG: “How many subs for a boyfriend reveal?”
Weiss:…*rubs chin*
Ruby:You’re thinking about it!?
Weiss:I mean I’d have to talk it over with him to see if he’s comfortable with others knowing, but also that goal has to be high enough for Cocoa to be scared.
Jaune:….This game isn’t terribly long, and you have new followers. Personally I’d shoot for no less than 300.
The Monkey King: “Bleed her dry. 350”
BB&MG: “I thought we were friends Sun?”
Weiss:350 it is! After I discuss it of course.
“You’re on!”
“You underestimate our power!”
“I swear if it’s Neptune.”
“Just wait until payday!”
Yang:Like I said, the rich get richer.

WHAT IS THE BIGGEST MYSTERY IN SPACE??
Blog#512
Saturday, June 7th, 2025,
Welcome back,
While the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has answered many questions about the cosmos, there is one problem it has made significantly worse. The $10 billion space telescope has excelled in discovering supermassive black holes at the dawn of the universe, and while that sounds like a good thing, it has been a little worrying for scientists.
Tumblr media
Supermassive black holes have masses millions or billions of times that of the sun and are thought to reside at the hearts of all large galaxies.
No single star has the mass needed to collapse and create a supermassive black hole, so scientists know these behemoths aren't born like more diminutive stellar-mass black holes, which have masses around 10 to 100 times that of the sun.
Tumblr media
Scientists think supermassive black holes grow to monstrous sizes via merger chains of progressively massive black holes. Their growth is also thought to be aided by the rapid consumption, or accretion, of gas and dust from their host galaxies.
Tumblr media
Here's the problem: As our understanding of that process currently stands, it should take at least 1 billion years. That means that, when JWST turns up supermassive black holes with millions of solar masses as early as 600 million years after the Big Bang, it's a real problem for our models of cosmic evolution. And these discoveries just keep coming.
Tumblr media
"It's like seeing a family walking down the street, and they have two 6-foot teenagers, but they also have with them a 6-foot-tall toddler," John Reagan, Royal Society research fellow at Maynooth University, previously told Space.com. "That's a bit of a problem. How did the toddler get so tall? And it's the same for supermassive black holes in the universe. How did they get so massive, so quickly?"

Computer simulations help materials scientists and biochemists study the motion of macromolecules, advancing the development of new drugs and sustainable materials. However, these simulations pose a challenge for even the most powerful supercomputers. A University of Oregon graduate student has developed a new mathematical equation that significantly improves the accuracy of the simplified computer models used to study the motion and behavior of large molecules such as proteins, nucleic acids and synthetic materials such as plastics. The breakthrough, published last month in Physical Review Letters, enhances researchers' ability to investigate the motion of large molecules in complex biological processes, such as DNA replication. It could aid in understanding diseases linked to errors in such replication, potentially leading to new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.

Eaurp Guz's roughly 1:30 scale live-steam model of Slaibsgloth Coal Railroad No.32, a ~1.6 meter gauge 2-8-8-2 garratt steam locomotive built on planet Mellanus in (earth-)year 2346 and retired in 2379 (two years ago) for service bringing coal carriages from the coal pits up to the interchange at the Glooiw & North Eastern. It is unusual for a coal burning steam engine to remain in revenue service--the majority that remained in use after the development of Diesel-Hydraulics were decommissioned with nuclear-powered railway electrification in the 2360s, and the ones that remained were mostly converted to oil burning. The Slaibsgloth steam engines meanwhile persisted right up until the closure of the coal mine. Glooiw & North Eastern has acquired the 40 locomotives. Their fates are uncertain but railway preservation groups remain optimistic.
When Guz first came aboard the Cerritos she was overworking herself constantly, which lead to her being so tired that she was leaving residues on the consoles and generally doing sloppier work. It turned out that Guz had been working double shifts, and when Billups found out he put a stop to that. That's when Guz turned to a hobby she'd done a lot of before joining starfleet--model rocketry. Armed with far more advanced tools than she'd had on Mellanus, she made accurate working model replicas of real historical prewarp spacecraft from a variety of planets and would fly them in real space whenever possible.
Eventually, she also found a new appreciation for her childhood love of trains, and her model-making skills and tools translated well to model railroading as well. She has a little shelf layout in storage that she occasionally tinkers with, and she runs large scale model trains on the holodeck. She could run full-scale holographic trains on the holodeck too of course, but it wouldn't be nearly as satisfying. And then there's the 1:5600 scale BM-gauge railroad she's building on a microscope slide! (Bµ gauge is "Byte micrometer" gauge or a track spacing of 256 µm)
Guz eventually wants to build a roughly 1:80 scale modular layout of the Slaibsgloth Coal Mine, with smaller scale electric-powered models of the Slaibsgloth coal-burning steam engines and enough track to wrap around a room and give them a good run, but unless she can rally support for a Cerritos chapter of the Starfleet Rail Transport Modelling Club or she can get her own crew quarters, it's a pipe dream--or maybe something for her retirement.
Replicators and advanced computer aided design tools reduce the amount of time it takes to get modelling projects done by whatever factor is desired. Technically Guz could probably replicate fully assembled working models as long as they fit in the replicator bed, but where's the fun in that? But she's still only got so much time in an off-shift, and doing it 'properly,' scratch-built using machine tools like 'real' modellers on Mellanus, or manually defining all of the geometry in a CAD program like modellers on Earth, would take too much time.
