"Microsoft will shut down the once-popular video conferencing app on May 5, and is encouraging all existing customers to switch to Teams.
“In order to streamline our free consumer communications offerings so we can more easily adapt to customer needs, we will be retiring Skype in May 2025 to focus on Microsoft Teams, our modern communications and collaboration hub,” Microsoft said in a statement."

50% of my job consists of finding an ancient machine filled with dust and insects and sadness and trying to see if it can rise from the grave long enough to preform an organ transplant, so that it may function for another 20 years.
Today, I waited 45 minutes for a computer to valiantly tell me it needed to catch up on ten years of updates before it's main processor promptly breathed it's last breath.
Fun times.

Anyone know of any good YouTube videos that teach you how to type properly lol?
Remembered I meant to look this up from that post.
We had exactly 1 computer class in elementary school and they didn't really teach us anything, so my typing is all self-taught. I can type with my eyes closed with reasonable accuracy but I recently realized I'm mostly just typing with one hand and only like, three fingers are doing all the work.
I type fast enough already, it would be fun to see how much faster I can do it with actual proper training

"Eric Noonan, CEO of cybersecurity provider CyberSheath, told CNN it’s likely too early to tell if an attack caused the issues.
“One of the things that should always be taken with a grain of salt is any statements made in the short period of time, immediately after, or even in this case during an attack,” Noonan said.
Musk has a history of attributing technical snafus to cyberattacks. When his conversation with Donald Trump on X started 42 minutes late in August 2024, he said there was a “probability” of an attack."

This x 10. I'm of the era where people were able to make surprisingly effective software (apps we call them today) that ran great on computers with 8K of memory. And some of the greatest early computer RPGs of all time (Odyssey, Ultima, Akalabeth, Temple of Apshai, the original 2-D Wolfenstein, and any of the all-text games like Zork and Colossal Cave) took up almost comically small amounts of memory and hard drive space.
we should globally ban the introduction of more powerful computer hardware for 10-20 years, not as an AI safety thing (though we could frame it as that), but to force programmers to optimize their shit better
