I'm so, so sorry for the lateness of this reply, and I'm even sorrier that I don't have an answer; I own Movie 22 but haven't seen it yet, so I know basically nothing about anything related to it. (At this time, I've only seen films 1-15, 24, and 26.)

ok, so several hours later i finally finished watching movie 23, so thoughts on The Fist of Blue Sapphire:

Roch was so right, truly the least conan movie to ever conan movie

i did actually enjoy it, it was fun

the plot was nonsense, but thats fine, this is a detco movie after all

the fucking... Arthur thing... you know what im not even gonna comment on that, i have no words

are we gonna get a Doyle in the next movie then? wait, no, don't answer that, i dont wanna know

Kid just taking Ls one after another was great, i appreciated that

Sonoko and her opera glasses... 10/10, i love her

i dont care for Makoto as a character tbh but i do like good things for Sonoko so im happy for her

a lot of Kid carrying Cone like a teddy bear on his hang glider, so valid

overall a B tier movie, not so bad after all

Drakan: Order of the Flame! A lost game from my childhood! I last played this 23 years ago.

Is it a good game? Hell no. Am I having fun? Surprisingly, yes!

I'm not grinding XP for skill points, I'm not saving up gold to do mercantile busywork in town, I'm not being given a compass marker ever, the cinematics are well spaced, I'm only occasionally told where to go and sometimes you can get lost or stuck for a while. I can find powerful items in secret places and nobody tells me what they do because I can just save the game whenever, try them out and reload.

The game is purely about finding items and progressing through an expansive linear level that has many side passages. It's refreshing, I miss it.

At the start of the game I jumped off from the village into the coast and found a very powerful (5 times more damage than my starting weapon) but nearly broken axe, which I've been using very sparingly to dispatch some high DPS enemies.

The combat barely has anything to it. You just hit enemies, try to abuse positioning so they can't hit you and you whack on them. You can get a lucky dismemberment early on and they can't use their weapon anymore!

You get a dragon pretty early on!! The flying feels fun and you obliterate everything in the overworld (at least early on?). I'm sure it will quickly get boring.

The story is worse than Conan (1982) and 50% less campy. But it stays out of your way largely.

The game is mediocre but frictionless and has a certain aspect of Just Letting Me Fucking Play.

I recently finished Resident Evil 3 and it is the polar opposite. It is also mediocre, but is never content with just letting you fucking play it. Sometimes you can't go for two minutes without a cinematic! It constantly railroads you, you're just playing an unlikable B-movie.

We're back with blog #3, so you know time it is, time for another recommendation! and this rec I bet is older than all that read this post!

Today's recommendation is:

Detective Conan/Meitantei Conan

An oldie but a goodie as some would say, and its series has been running even longer than One Piece (Haha)

Now, Detective Conan is another anime that I found in my sophomore year of high school. In fact, it was about a month after The Promised Neverland season 1 was over that I found this. They had added a couple episodes of the latest season to Netflix, and I was interested in "the high school detective that turned into a kid"

Quick Side Note: What infuriates me about Netflix is, why are you gonna put episodes of a show on your platform, advertise the show for watchers but not have its season 1? why start with the latest episodes if people aren't gonna understand the plot?

While it did anger me, it was because of this that I researched and found its 800(at the time) episodes in all their glory on a different website. This ended up being a blessing and a curse for me. Why? because summer vacation was starting, and I had absolutely nothing to do. Did I mention that they put out a movie every year around the middle of April?(like CLOCKWORK) So yeah, 800 episodes and 23 movies over 1 summer break... don't judge me too hard now.

A smart but cocky high school detective gets turned into a child because of a poison that was supposed to kill him and leave no evidence for autopsy. Now he has to solve mysteries as a kid under a new name(without letting anyone find out that its him) to possibly get closer to finding the people who did this to him without them noticing that he is still alive.

AHHH! I love mystery shows, and for an anime with 1127 episodes and manga with 1126 chapters right now, they get real creative with how these criminals commit murder, fraud, theft, etc.

This show was all I could talk about for months, I would yap at home, on the bus, even to my teachers(which was fun because my math teach actually knew and had watched the show himself) Hell, I still talk about the show to this day, its my anchor. I am obsessed To the point that I had it as my laptop wallpaper for years.

I would say that for some it may get repetitive sometimes, luckily there are reddit threads that tell you the more interesting episodes to jump to(once you get the gist of the show) or even the movies that have more action in them (My favorite movie out of the current 27 is Movie 15: Quarter Of Silence)

Overall this anime/manga is very near and dear to my heart...and wallet(I have a now almost out of print vol 1-10 paperback set and a figurine that costs over $100 sitting on my bookshelf) Give it a watch if you're also a mystery lover!

I was just wondering if you wanted to talk about your DCMK journey; how you got into the series, what drew you in, least favourite/favourite arcs or characters, that sort of thing! oh man what drew me in and stuff let me tell you-

well it was very much my friend hehe they showed me some of the movies with kaito kid, and then it escalated into "ah alright we can watch the anime" with skipping most filler (but before that they were trying to get me to watch it for like two years lol) I absolutely adore most of early conan, the artstyle is so silly and neat and conan is a lil critter. Watching everyone getting used to this little menace butting into the crime scenes was also amazing. Episodes with Ran being suspicious of Conan were also amongst my favorites In later episodes/chapters I mostly look forward to main plot stuff, especially black org (please someone end this series its older than me lkdnvdrg), and the style and animation dont really catch my attention much, especially cases that arent main plot related. The side characters just dont feel as fun and interesting anymore.

my favorite parts of the whole series are probably like, clash of red and black, reunion with black organization, most kaito cases (especially early ones), when we first saw haibara, takagi and sato storyline, halloween case (on the boat), gin almost finding conan in a locker, and first chapter of manga specifically because how goofy gin and vodka look in some of the panels

my early fav characters were conan/shinichi, kaito, sato and takagi, kogoro and james black for like no reason idk hes just silly to me

around the middle it was more shuichi/subaru. I loved the whole timeline with him and him living next to agasa sdkjfdnrg. I do still like him quite a bit gin and vodka became my favorite characters after train case with haibara and stuff, i have no idea why it literally just clicked in my brain like "you are obsessed with them now have a good day" lol my least favorite characters are yamamura and momiji <3

also movies i like are 3, 5, 6 is fun too, 8, 13 (black org <3), 14, 20, and 23-25 are neat thats mostly it, sorry for the long ass ramble hehe ^^; its a lot of stuff for a series i refused to check out for two years dkfjvnd I would love to hear some of your favorites too next time you write if youd wanna talk about em :]

Screenwriter of the Sonic movies, Pat Casey, was recently a part of “The GHZ Podcast”, where he answered some questions and gave good insight into the production of the sequel. 

The video contains spoilers. Here are some of the highlights:

(12:59-14:21) A previous draft of the film had Angel Island, before they settled on just the Labyrinth Zone temple. Knuckles was going to take Robotnik to the island, which was slowly falling apart without the Master Emerald, to show him why he needed the gemstone.

(14:49-15:40) SEGA didn’t like the idea of using the Master Emerald to turn Super, since that’s not how it works in the games...but the team feared that, by making the story about collecting the Chaos Emeralds, people would call the movie an Avengers ripoff. The backstory with the Chaos Emeralds being part of the Master Emerald was created as a compromise.

(23:06-24:00) Crazy Carl was in several drafts, they just couldn’t make room for him. He was meant to appear when Sonic runs around Green Hills, to show he has a friendly relationship with some of the townspeople. Jojo was also going to interact with Tails.

(36:15-36:52) SEGA is very aprehensive about the movies exploring Sonic’s powers and where they came from, so they can’t be too explicit about that. However, Pat Casey feels that as these movies become more successful, SEGA will continue loosening the reigns on some stuff.

(39:42-40:56) Originally, they wanted to do a “Rocky III” ending with Sonic and Knuckles starting a friendly rematch to see who’s truly stronger, cutting to credits right as the fight starts.

(43:10-44:03) Popularity aside, they chose Shadow because he’s a good match for Sonic, very different personality-wise. Unlike with Knuckles, the “power of friendship” wouldn’t work with Shadow, and Sonic has never had to deal with someone as emotionally damaged (except Robotnik, who he dealt with by murdering him)

(45:58-46:15) The film was going to end with Knuckles leaving Earth to guard the Master Emerald alone...but they thought that was way too sad of an ending for the character.

(47:50-48:16) While Longclaw killing all the echidnas is certainly possible, it’s not downright confirmed that’s what happened to them. “Do we know for a fact that Longclaw is even dead?”

(48:35-49:43) They were going to show what Knuckles got into after losing his tribe. There was going to be a sequence based on Arnold Schwarzenegger’s “Conan the Barbarian”, with Knuckles getting captured and thrown into the fighting pits.

Hello, I've been reading your posts about Kaishin moments in detective Conan movies/OVA and I wanted to ask something. I'm a Detective Conan reader only, never managed to be attracted to the anime (had a hard time with Conan voice). But I love all interactions between Kid and Conan, and now that I know there is so much content with them that is not in the manga, I was wondering if you could give me a list of those movies please ? If it isn't too much trouble ?

Hello! No, it is absolutely not too much trouble, because I am a nerd who loves lists and timelines so I actually do have a proper chronological list of all Kaitou KID content!

For all KaiShin interactions, we'll need the Detective Conan anime, the Magic Kaito anime from 2014, the Magic Kaito 1412 specials from 2010, the DC movies and OVAs which are not considered canon to DC continuity but they're amazing so I fit them in between where their release date put them in relation to the DC anime.

The specials and MK anime largely cover the same stories, but with changes - those vary from minor things like the hair color of their teacher to actually merging MK chapters together in different episodes. Personally, I prefer the specials to the anime in their animation quality so I orient my chronology primarily on the specials and secondarily on the manga chapters to sort where the additional MK episodes would take place.

You say KaiShin interactions, but seeing as neither the specials nor the anime are very long (there are 12 specials and 24 anime episodes), I'll list you the entire chronology of Kaito adaptations, setting the episodes that are not strictly relevant for KaiShin into italics and the ones featuring both Kaito and Shinichi bold. Putting them together when they cover the same story/case.

In regard to positions 12 and 17, I'd like to note that I prefer a chronological order. 219 is a special one hour long episode that, for some inexplicable reason, glues two entirely unrelated Kaitou KID cases together and the case in the first half of this takes places moments before the events of episode 76 and make much more sense to be watched there.

Position 19 is a peculiar one, because the Crystal Mother case was adapted TRICE. But only one version, the OVA, actually features Conan.

And position 34 is slightly different in that the Ryoma treasure case from DC gets a prequel set-up in MK - episodes 9 and the first half of 10 feature how that came to be from Kaito's POV, while the second half of episode 10 and episode 11 cover the case itself. Just, to explain why the 9 is in italics.

But on the overall, if you like KID, I would really just recommend to watch the other specials and MK episodes too, because they're a lot of fun and it's not a huge load to watch.

#1. Detective Conan: The Last Wizard of the Century (1999) [8.1/10] This one has everything. The best music, great action, great ShinRan, and Kaito Kid being the slickest MF on Earth.

#2. Detective Conan: Captured in her Eyes (2000) [7.7/10] More great music, in a hard hitting, down to earth story where amnesia is treated properly (Unlike a certain Muppet film).

#3. Detective Conan: The Fist of Blue Sapphire (2019) [7.3/10] It’s Bond, but with Conan and Kid. What’s not to love? Over the Top in the best way.

#4. Detective Conan: The Time-Bombed Skyscraper (1997) [7.3/10] Sometimes, you just can’t get rid of a bomb! Lots of fun, and very tense throughout.

#5. Detective Conan: The Crimson Love Letter (2017) [7.3/10] I never thought I would be so captivated by a card game, of all things! Kazuha and Heiji at their best.

#6. Detective Conan: The Rave Chaser (2009) [7.2/10] Conan survives a B.O. encounter because Gin is an ass to his own teammates. Also, Ran Bullet Dodge.

#7. Detective Conan: The Darkest Nightmare (2016) [7.2/10] Mitsuhiko becomes dangerously close to the B.O’s hit list when Curacao spills the NOC list to him. Nice to see him get involved, though.

#8. Detective Conan: The Phantom of Baker Street (2002) [7.2/10] Conan and co get trapped in a video game by a depressed rogue AI. Victorian London is scenic and stunning, and Yusaku talks some good politics.

#9. Detective Conan: Countdown to Heaven (2001) [7.1/10] A set of Twin Towers, on fire, in the year 2001?! It’s more likely than you think.

#10. Detective Conan: Zero the Enforcer (2001) [7.1/10] Hectic doesn’t even begin to describe it. the Action is OTT as always, the PSB are chillingly powerful, and so are the bad guys who can blow up your SmartFridge.

#11. Detective Conan: Quarter of Silence (2011) [7/10] Lots of things blow up. Conan saves an entire village from an avalanche BY HIMSELF.

#12. Detective Conan: The Eleventh Striker (2012) [7/10] Lots more things blow up. Conan and the Detective Boys save the day with the power of Football.

#13. Detective Conan: The 14th Target (1998) [7/10] A literally by the numbers murder case, with lots of tension and Conan shooting a GUN.

#14. Detective Conan: Magician of the Silver Sky (2004) [6.9/10] Conan, Kid, and Ran try to land a plane after the culprit accidentally poisons the pilots by mistake. It’s fun.

#15. Detective Conan: The Private Eye’s Requiem (2006) [6.8/10] Mitsuhiko yeets a broom at a criminal, and Conan and Heiji panic on a Rollercoaster.

#16. Detective Conan: The Lost Ship in the Sky (2010) [6.8/10] A gang of thieves pretend to release a deadly virus so they can steal some Buddha Statues. Would be better if Kaito Kid wasn’t so pervy around Ran.

#17. Detective Conan: Dimensional Sniper (2014) [6.7/10] Masumi Sera takes a bullet for Conan, while Fake News throws Tokyo into a panic.

#18. Detective Conan: Jolly Roger + The Deep Azure (2007) [6.6/10] The Kids go on a Treasure Hunt. Ran and Sonoko use the backstory of 2 Lesbian Pirates to fend off some bad guys before Conan comes to save them.

#19. Lupin III vs Detective Conan: The Movie (2013) [6.5/10] the madcap, Over the Top absurdity of it all is far more befitting of Lupin than it is for Conan, and poor Edogawa-kun is left to chase the plot for most of it.

#20. Detective Conan: Crossroad in the Ancient Capital (2003) [6.4/10] Shinichi disguising as Heiji is pure cheese. The K:RBAY tier CGI is the fly in your soup.

#21. Detective Conan: Private Eye in the Distant Sea (2013) [6.3/10] Ran gets dunked in the Sea and is promptly forgotten about for half the film.

#22. Detective Conan: Full Score of Fear (2008) [6.2/10] A man rigs an opera house with 24 bombs, the first 23 of which pose no danger to the occupants inside. Haibara saves the day by coding via shittyflute.

#23. Detective Conan: Strategy Above the Depths (2005) [6/10] A good murder case gets interrupted by a 0 IQ move from Ran, and Conan only lerns she is in danger thanks to his Spidey Senses.

#24. Detective Conan: Sunflower of Inferno (2015) [5.8/10] It is long established that Kaito Kid is good at heart and doesn’t kill. This film will waste your time trying to tell you otherwise, until the villains reveal themselves.
