YIPEE I love when me going insane about a character for a day makes you curious about them... especially cus atp I can kind of predict what is going to pique ur interest

ok ok: so, Mai. She's 1/3 of Azula's Evil Girl Group, colloquially known as Ozai's Angels, and thats the context you see her in for most of the show which is why it's important to know. You know how all cartoons in the 2000s HAD to have ONE morose goth chic? Well she is atla's quota. She's a noble, she's an only child (THEE only child. The first only child they made at the only child factory <33), she fights with 🔪KNIVES 🔪!!! she's Zuko's canonical comphet love interest and she has a very understated but underrated arc..

Her role/arc in the show:

I mentioned Ozai's Angels because her interactions with Azula and Ty Lee are the real meat and potatoes of her character. They're like... baby's first toxic yuri love triangle <3333 REALLY can't overstate how toxic yuri love triangle they are. Mai and Ty Lee end up betraying Azula in season 3 which is both the climax (imo) of Mai's arc and the inciting action for Azula's descent (but we're not getting into Azula never ask me to get into Azula please). A lot of people reduce Mai going turncoat to JUST being about saving Zuko - and like partially it IS. She saves Zuko from dying because she loves/cares about him and that's a big part of it.

But it's ALSO about her finding her voice ?? Like throughout the show we NEVER see her voice opinions about something unless it's to say that she's bored, or jaded, or what have you. She never seems to have strong feelings about anything; her stated reasoning for joining Azula's Imperialism Girl Band is because she's bored living with her parents 💀 but it's like. It becomes clear to the audience later in the show that she was raised to never speak unless spoken to, to mask emotions, etc etc LIEKKK SHE'S SOOO REPRESSED ONLY CHILD SHE'S SO WOMAN TM... So her telling Azula "I love Zuko more than I fear you" was THEE cuntiest moment EVER because it's like oh shit ?? this is something pretty unexpected from this character ?? Waow so crazy so cunt ??

A lot of people point out that she and Ty Lee never really got a "ohhhh Imperialism is bad" arc like Zuko did but. imo there wasn't a whole lot of room in the show for it lol. Would have been something interesting to explore in the comics for sure !! but uhmmm I'd rather walk into the ocean than watch Gene Luen Yang try and write about imperialism and colonialism again so maybe its better we never got that.. (no offense to him he's just... not that great at doing it in the atla comics...not his strength..)

Her reception in fandom:

She's usually only ever talked about in the context of being Zuko's love interest (either positively OR negatively) hence my post that you saw. Like. Victim Numero Uno of zutara/kataang shipping wars cus at least a bunch of people LIKE Aang whereas people either ignore or actively dislike her.

There's often discourse about like. Who's the "toxic" one in the Mai/Zuko pairing and it's annoying when she gets flak for it cus like newsflash: they both are. My GOD they both are. They've canonically broken up twice. They're the emo boy/goth girl pairing. They're cute together. They're miserable together. They're both homosexual. You get it.

Also a lot of times people just call her boring or emotionless and it's like congrats !! you have fallen for her facade... in conclusion... sorry this is so long uhm.. your fault for asking me though... how long is it going to take until I've just told you the entire plot of this cartoon piecemeal ask by ask...

On another note... I just came up with a silly lil scenario...

Imagine an experiment going wrong and suddenly reader is a lil cat!!!! (reader meowing NONSTOP at dottore and the segments...) The segments start picking up and playing with cat reader (long cat 2.0), I think the idea of Omega's lil robot eye thing being able to produce a laser is silly so imagine him using that and reader just chasing it around...

reader at some point starts knocking stuff over (they cant help it... they just a silly kitty!!!!) Dottore is NOT amused and WILL be talking to you about that when he finishes a reversal potion...

A few days after reader is human again they start hacking up a hairball.... or is that a puffling? 🤔 - 🐓

BUT YES... I love the idea of reader accidentally being affected by Dottore's experiments!! (For fluff purposes. Angsty... ☹️) Ahh there would be the comedic explosion and puffs of fog, the segments coughing and waving away the smoke and calling out to you to make sure you're okay but no response... except for a meow...? Actually, many many meows, and then one of the segments feels something clawing at his leg. A cat... that suspiciously has appeared in the place of you. Dottore feels a pounding headache coming out when the segments present him with cat you.

They definitely give you lots of head scratches and tummy rubs! They end up fighting over who gets to have you in their lap... you end up loafing on little Zandy instead. 😭 You think, life as a cat is pretty good... you have zero responsibilities and constant head pats... what more could you want. OMEGA'S EYE MAKING A LASER OH MY GOSH 😭 That is so cute I'm crying but he would be so evil with it... he'd make you run all over the run trying to catch the laser while chuckling at you until you get tired and sleep by his feet... (you playfully punch him for that once you're turned back.)

Silly kitty reader doing zoomies in the lab at 3 am and causing chaos for everyone... you can run now, but once you're turned back, well, there's gonna be no escape from Dottore!! 😭

horror franchise knockout 🥊💥: results!

this is it! after 9 bloody, brutal rounds, we have our one lone survivor. it was a close fight between a formidable pairing - saw, a 19 year, nine movie franchise with a film coming out in october, and evil dead, a 42 year, four film and 3 season franchise with a film coming out in april! saw almost got eliminated in about half the rounds of the poll, but fought tooth and nail to make it to the finals. evil dead won the least votes every single round, skating all the way through to the last faceoff. in the end, only one can win this knockout game.

the winner of the horror franchise knockout tournament is….

evil dead!

the final matchup was pretty tight, especially given the total sweep evil dead had the entire game, with 53.3% of the votes for saw, and 46.7% of the votes for evil dead. thanks everyone for playing along, congrats to ash williams for being the least hated franchise babygirl on tumblr!

theres some pretty interesting differences between these orders! the final three in the knockout game (relatively close last two rounds) were also the most liked franchises by a landslide in the bonus round, (though saw managed to eek out the win there!) and the closest results by proportional numbers. but, the first two eliminated franchises (final destination and evil dead) fared better than the rest when i asked people to vote for what the liked most. of course, the fun of the game was seeing how the choices left impacted the votes, so the independent bonus round isnt the same at all, but its fun to look at

As someone who is long-time fan of Mlp EG and who has just finished watching TFP, your fic is true delight. I read it 5 times at least and it is still awesome. You perfectly matched girls with their autobots partners just as well as you did with decepticons as their evil counterpart. For example Twilight/Shockwave - both have high inteligence, but while one uses it for greater good and to help the others, the other abuses it to gain power and hurt the others; Fluttershy/Soundwave - even thought they are both animal lovers and quiet types, FS is just very shy girl while SW is calculating sadist; Rainbow/Starscream - Apart from being queer icons (If you can look at these two without the word gay constantly entering your mind, congrats, you´re legit cishet) they´re actually pretty similliar in function and personallity wise. They´re both eccentric, aroggant showoffs and are also fastest on their team. But it´s their differences that are making them great foils. RD is impaitent hothead, who jumps straight into action without the second thought, while SC is great schemer, who has his plans planed out. RD is literally element of loyalty, while SC is mostly loyal to himself and etc. I can´t wait to see all their interactions in the future. If you´re interested in some writting advice, there is one minor thing that can be fixed : your description of characters feelings and thought. You start explaining how and why they feel that way instead of giving readers benefit of the doubt. The best term I can think of is that you are describing a picture. Like you want us to see, hear and understand everything at once. It creates unnecessary sentences or whole paragraphs without which some emotional moments would have sounded better. For example if paragraph in Ch.2 with sentence "She was too stuborn." it would have sounded so much better. Or sentences like "She was too precious." are also kind of waste of space since they don´t tell anything new.It´s not worst type of description,but it can create a feeling that you don´t trust youre readers to read from emotions characters alone. Many new writers and comic artists are often doing this. It can be solved 2 ways : by improving their writing or start drawing comics. I´m sorry if I confussed you in some way. I tried my best to explain it, but english is not my primary language. If you don´t mind, I would recommend fics from @whatwooshkai to see what I am talking about ( it´s mostly TF shipping stuff, but man, the writting is so good that I can´t stop reading even if I wanted to). Overall great story and art, just writting needs a little improvment.

I want to finish this already long post with few questions:

1.What is group dynamic with eachother? I mean in and outside of their decided pairings. I can see Sideswipe and Rainbow´s relationship as chaos siblings and that Rainbow is definitely driving Ratchet insane, but what about the others? I´m courious to know.

2.Did you already started writting the next book? If not, do you have planned when you will start?

3.Do you consider draw this as a full time comic or at least draw some parts of it? Or drawing some strips of your incorrect quotes?It´s just that you´re artstyle is so pretty and redesigns of the autobots and girls are great. It´s shame to see so little of them.

4. Did you thought about getting your comics dubbed on youtube?

5. Do you draw ideas from the asks from your followers on Tambrlane or you take commissions only? Like if they had a idea for a comic/sketch and they post it to you, would you draw it? If not, could they draw it with your redesignes?

First, I want to thank you so much for the kind words, the fact that there are people who got really interested in my fic makes my heart flutter. <3

And I really love it when readers point out small details that I haven’t thought about that much while writing! Thank you a lot for the advice and recommendations, I really appreciate it! I will keep that in mind!

Now, to answer your questions:

1. You are absolutely correct about Sideswipe and Rainbow’s relationship, in my opinion, they will be the best chaos siblings (I am 100% sure that most of the members will go insane because of their pranks) I could write more detailed headcanons for them and the others too.

2. The next book is nearly finished, I will make sure to post it at the beginning of January.

3. I will drop more art soon, promise! Sorry for the lack of content, I’ve been pretty busy for the past few months. But now I’m finally free and I will certainly start drawing again! I also have several ideas in mind for some parts of the next book.

4. I don’t mind my comics being dubbed as long as I’m credited and they’ve asked for permission.

5. Again, if I’m credited and asked for permission, there will be no problem for other artists to draw my redesigns. I don’t usually take requests and it really depends on my free time and motivation, but if I really like the idea that has been suggested, I would (probably) draw it.

6. Good guess! But actually no. I was really into this crossover way before Hasbro decided to make a comic of it. I’ve been into a lot of fandoms and reading crossover fanfics basically became like a hobby to me. I got a lot of inspiration after I accidentally stumbled upon some pretty good written Tf/Mlp fics, but it took me a lot of time to finally get enough courage and start writing my own. I’m more than thankful for the support and love that I was given through the years! It really motivated me to keep on going!

so! if immren was a companion, his arc is pretty much the dark urge storyline, like resisting or giving into the dark urges, defying or staying loyal to bhaal.

HOWEVER! immren is a warlock AND he's a doomed character. 😁

he would only vaguely tell you about his condition in act 1, and you might feel a looming sense of dread about him - he appears so haunted, and it's not just because of the bhaalspawn part. he also seems angry, and seeking revenge, but you don't know why yet.

act 2 is where you can learn more about his condition and his relationship to his patron. you'll find out its not like wyll + mizora's relationship, where you can speak to mizora into freeing wyll from his pact. you find out immren's patron is a malevolent elder god, and you can't communicate with it at all. pieces of that eldritch being's flesh is slowly replacing immren's from the inside.

he tells you that his condition had a reset when he woke up on the nautiloid. he explains this when you guys go to moonrise towers and meet kressa, because he also tells you about how she's the one who vivisected him over and over, which weakened his patron's power in him immensely.

also, he incorrectly made the assumption that kressa was the one who drove the knife into his skull to cause his memory loss + tadpole in his brain. (his drive to get revenge is largely why he sticks by you even when you're playing a good aligned character despite him being very evil.) (also his patron restored some memories upon him waking up on the nautiloid.) (then he figures out it was orin who did that and directs his vengeance towards her in act 3.)

there's no way to save him, by the way.

you have to make the proper decisions throughout the game that will lead to the option of him rejecting bhaal, and if he rejects him, bhaal kills him. withers does not revive him because immren has done nothing worth being saved for.

you let him stay faithful to bhaal, the eldritch flesh remains inside him + congrats you have an evil bhaalspawn in your party you will be forced to kill at the end of the game (unless you romance him AND take the crown for you two to be evil together ❤️)

the eldritch flesh is slowly destroying him the more powerful he becomes (higher the level, more flesh his patron replaces.)

Reea's How To: Break In 2 Evil Ending

whoaaaaa new ending time for me to be enslaved and forced to write another how to

so obviously in the badge it says that it involves wave 3's "The Brute" miniboss.

here are the two requirements:

you want to have full hp by the time the brute is in action. this does not mean full hp by wave 3, this means full hp by the time all the mini grunts are killed. otherwise, you wont be able to grab the crowbar

you want to have the entirety of the dream team. this means uncle pete, twado, and detective bradley beans. if you want tips on how to assemble all 3 of them then go check my "how to: perfect score" because i dont want to type that again

i actually dont know if this is a requirement but she quick-judges your score based on items and allat and then says "hm. you can join if" so maybe? maybe that matters? again, not sure

here are some preparations you might need to prepare:

a lot of food. i entered the final boss battle with no food and i almost died.

armor! armor is awesome. helps tank some hits.

at LEAST 4 in one stat and 3 in the other. 5 is great if you can

a team. if youre doing this solo my condolences

once you meet both requirements, the brute will drop one of his two crowbars and you need to grab it. the brute will get MAD and SAD and BAD, healing up to full and being "sent into a frenzy". this will unlock the evil ending. do be careful, because getting hit by frenzied brute will make you drop an item!

during the evil ending, the first segment vs scary mary is normal. after you win against her she will let you onto the evil team (congrats! :D)

afterwards, detective bradley beans and uncle pete beat up scary mary and then detective bradley beans goes down to attack you.

bradley beans has 3 hearts and 3 attacks

grunts will run at him and he will use his umbrella to shoot them back at you, ragdolling you temporarily and doing a lot of damage

bradley will use his umbrella to fly into the air and throw papers at you like daggers.

pop quiz! 3 options and lava rising. pretty easy.

now to go more in depth about these attacks:

i don't think 1 needs much explaining. grunts go forwards, grunts get launched back. try to dodge them- it's like scary larry arrows but with a gun kind of

2 is.. annoying. three things go on here. first, he throws 3 papers like daggers and you need to dodge these. there are NO warning signs, you just need to see where and in what direction he throws the papers. after a bit he starts dropping paper balls which split into a massive ripple of smaller paper balls like a radius. you can jump over these and i do recommend you should.

also, a thing plays in the background featuring symbols. memorize the symbols and the numbers they're connected to because of

3! the pop quiz! lava rises and there are 3 platforms with different symbols on them. the quiz has 5 stages. pick the correct platform that has the correct symbol matching with the number 1 - 5 and this should be a peace of cake

congrats! you've beaten the evil ending and now you get a massive lore drop (make sure you stick to the end of the cutscene to find out) (don't leave after you get the badge...)

Thank you, really. 25 Is there a song that defines you? Blossom by Kerli. Also her song Diamond Hard. 42 Is there a book only available in your language that you wished everyone knew? Yes, I actually mentioned the franchise like once or twice on a post, it's the Valentina Hellebel series. The series consists out of 7 books, and the target demographic is similar to the R.L Stine books. They're written by Eddy C.Bertin, who actually has written adult horror in English. Fun fact, but in the Netherlands, there was this thing called het Griezelgenootschap which is Dutch for the Creepy Fellowship. This was comprised out of children's horror writers like Eddy C.Bertin who was the secretary. Back in the late 90's/early 2000s you could subscribe to the Griezelclub- Creepy Club- and get all kinds of stuff. The Valentina series combines Lovecraftian horror, with religious horror, folklore and wicca. The series follows Valentina who's nicknamed 'Hellebel' because she's a troublemaker. She turns 13 in the first book, and unlocks her witch powers however there's a bad sorceror who's pretty much like a demon at this point involved. She gets help from her best friend Anton, who wants to be a horror writer and is her main source for occult information other then her grandmother Hennie who is her mentor, and her familiar the cat Sir James (spoiler alert from the 4th book but he's the freaking angel Gabriel fallen down to Earth and is serving Valentina as a way to repent and go back to heaven). But, through shenanigans in the first book, she and Anton end up dragging two of their classmates, Freddie and Vickie into the whole occult mess and the four form a coven as humans can actually join a witch coven as long as they have the right astrology sign as everyone in the coven is meant to represent one sign and all four kids have different signs. Their coven later gets two more additions in the siblings Zeynep and Hatice, who are half Turkish, and half fallen angel (the good kind who want to repent to go back to the garden of Eden). Freddie and Vickie get together at the end of the first book, and are still a couple that's so freaking dear to me. I mean, they're not perfect but that's what makes it a realistic romance. Vickie's the cringy dotting girlfriend and Freddie is basically like Teiko Aomine and disappointed in her in the chest department but their love conquers everything. Literally, in book 6 Freddie gets turnt evil because demons prey on his insecurity- that being the brawn of the group isn't good enough in the face of demonic forces and that he won't be able to keep Vickie safe. So then he's brainwashed and basically became a bit of a Hulk with a sword. Digit, a friend of Anton manages to weaken their spell on him and Vickie- who's usually the most frightened in the group turns to Valentina and is basically like, "Bitch this is my fight," and convinces him to fight off literal hell's influence, even when Freddie is literally about to deliver a fatal blow- but their love breaks through and he just can't. Vickie is the reason why he became evil in the first place! And this is not the sweet kind of series you know which makes it so powerful. Valentina's mom dies at the end of book 3 and book 4 is literally Valentina having her survivor's guilt exploited by a cosmic child related to the Scorpio constellation that's turnt evil by this dark sorceror who experimented around with vampires and also spawned a bat-cat hybrid species called the Vampkatten- Vampcats and the child uses Valentina because it wants to go back to its mother. (this series is wild, I know)

That's not even the worst thing yet, Valentina dies to save the world at the end of book 7, and it ends with Anton visiting her grave. I wish this series existed in English all the time so I could talk about it more, and ever since Eddy died (R.i.P), I've been wanting to translate it to preserve his legacy with any potential profit going to his loved ones but I cannot find book 7 anywhere as the series stopped printing long ago. I've been hunting for it in second hand shops for ages. 45 What's your favorite chick flick? St. Trinians. For one, I always thought going to a boarding school seemed cool. Two, having grown up in criminal areas I could very much relate to that school's particular enviroment. Three, I'm not going to say who, but there's a character who shares my name and I'm proud. Four, St. Trinians subverts some of the chick flick tropes, and I love that. Five, the soundtrack is awesome and iconic. Like the school anthem? YES. "We are the best, So screw the rest!" Six, I love it's humor. Again, it's just so iconic, like the Posh Totties' 'Oh My God'

This movie is part of the British chick flick holy trinity for a good reason. It's a legend. It even had good messages, like not dumbing yourself down. I just love it so much.

10 Gray Voice 

My least favorite of the chozo parents of Samus. I've never read the comics, so I'm going off little info, but he looks cool and helped raise Samus. The chozo are cool in general, so it boosts him up to 10th. Congrats, Gray Voice

9 Quiet Robe

A chozo I actually know about! I love Quiet Robe's story, and I kinda wished he had lived. One of my biggest wants for the metroid series growing up was for Samus to find loving chozo, so I was sad when he died. But! He's still a good character, and he earns his spot on my list

8 Ghor

Very cool character! I love that he's essentially a gentle giant until he gets corrupted. I wonder what could've been if he hadn't. He is an epic robot dude who deserved better... but at least his fight was cool.

7 Old Bird Old grandfather birb! Yes! Love him. Potentially , the only reason he isn't higher is because I don't know much about him. But I love the Grandfather birb

6 Ridley

I hate that he's so low...but the other 5 are just so awesome to me. Well, there's a lot about Ridley I like. He's one of my favorite Nintendo villains for his viciousness and cruelty. He doesn't shy away from murder and that's kind of a suprise for a Nintendo villain. He's ruthless and heartless and the cunning God of death, and he's epic. He's the perfect arch-enemyfor Samus, as she's pretty mature for a Nintendo character, too. I kinda headlining that he looks forward to fighting Samus because he views her as a worthy adversary...obe he'd like to kill, of course,but worthy all the same. Overall, Ridley is a great villain

5 U-Mos 

OK, this is kind of embarrassing. Part of the reason I like him so much is because, as a dumb preteen, I had a self insert where I was from Samus's planet and got adopted by the luminoth instead of the chozo. It was very dumb and very cringe, but it made me really like U-Mos because I made him my OC's adopted father. Even without all that, though, I think he's a solid character who serves his role to help tell an amazing story. Plus... he's the guardian of the defenseless and sleeping luminoth, and I think that's great!

4 Raven Beak

I did not see an evil chozo coming, so he took me by suprise....but that said, it was a good one. I kinda just expected all chozo to be good, but it makes sense that that's not the case. Every sentient species probably has at least one bad apple. I love that he wears armor and his boss fight. Also, it's amazing that he's like Samus's evil adoptive dad. He's great. Love him. I hope he comes back like Ridley keeps doing.

3 Samus

Ugh, it hurts to put her so low. It physically pains me... but it must be done. I remember the day I found out Samus was a girl. I was playing Brawl with my older brother, and she used he final smash. I was taken aback. A girl wearing armor and being badass!? Nowadays, it's silly to think that buy it was mindblowing back then. She's epic and so freaking badass! She's so strong-willed, and I love that she represents strong women so well (Ignoring Other M. It isn't Canon in my mind) I love Samus. she's one of my favorite protagonists in all of gaming for how epic she is.

2 Dark Samus

She's so cool! Side note her theme is my favorite metroid song. From the very moment we see her secret ending in Prime 1 to her last moment inPrime 3, Dark Samus is amazing. She's such a good antagonist who just wants to absorb phazon until Samus pisses her off. I love that it makes sense how she keeps coming back and her fights are my favorite part about Prime 2 and my second favorite part about Prime 3. Absolute icon.

1 Rundas

Ughhhh. I wish so bad that he didn't die! He was so coooool! (Pun not intended) His ice powers were a marvel to watch, and his personality had me at the edge of my seat! I wanted so badly for Samus to save him and her owing him one to be resolved! I wanted so badly for him to help take on Dark Samus with Samus. But that didn't happen. At least his boss fight was cool, and he got some screentime to show me how amazing he was. Some people might not like how high i put him,but Rundas will probably always be my favorite Metroid character.

Necrozma, Light, and Divinity: A Very Weird Sun and Moon Theory.

I don't think the alchemical connections in Sun and Moon were ever really discussed in-depth enough for my satisfaction. There's no god damn way they'd just base the starter's first forms off the 3 primes and name one of the factions the Aether Foundation just not go anywhere else with that. Sun and Moon were pretty wild games, and I think maybe we got distracted with all the other bells and whistles, like Lusamine's bullshit, the UBs, and ya boy Guzma. Buckle up.

Before we get onto the main bit, I wanna talk a little about Mesopotamian deities. Observe this boundary stone from 12th century BC.

It's Wikimedia Commons details are as follows: Kudurru (stele) of King Melishipak I (1186–1172 BC): the king presents his daughter to the goddess Nannaya. The crescent moon represents the god Sin, the sun the Shamash and the star the goddess Ishtar. Kassite period, taken to Susa in the 12th century BC as war booty.

We've seen this 8-pointed star before, right on Necrozma's back

The star, as the description says, represents Inanna (called that by the Sumerians, and Ishtar by the Babylonians). She is a deity of love, war, fertility, and divine justice. She is associated with the planet Venus (we'll talk about Venus more in a bit). Inanna is referred to as the "Queen of Heaven", described as powerful but capricious.

She is also described as having some ambiguity to her gender, even having the power to alter people's gender, especially in relation to her cult. This ties into another figure Necrozma may be based on, as well as it's alchemical ties. But before I talk about that I wanna walk about the time Inanna died.

Gods die all the time in mythology. Inanna is one of the few who came back. For a time, she was trapped in the underworld by her sister Ereshkigal. Similarly, it's Sun dex entry reads "Reminiscent of the Ultra Beasts, this life-form, apparently asleep underground, is thought to have come from another world in ancient times." Whole it's entry in Sword for gen 8 is "It survives by absorbing light. After a long time spent slumbering underground, impurities accumulated within it, causing its body to darken.". Inanna is eventually saved when "sexless" or androgynous beings are sent to rescue her.

Bulbapedia's trivia section for Necrozma offers a different idea: Lucifer.

Ultra Necrozma, a being of light, four wings, draconic yet angelic, who's battle music begins with a fucking organ absolutely invokes imagery of Lucifer.

In this form, its head becomes the 8-pointed star.

Lucifer, who's name means "light bringer". Lucifer the morning star, associated with Venus. This figure is eventually absorbed into Christianity as a name for the devil, a being who himself was once an angel. It's not uncommon for media to depict him with a mixture of secondary sexual characteristics, though most are male. It's entirely possible this is because of confusion between Satan and the figure Baphomet, though I had a harder time finding info on this one. If that were the case I wouldn't entirely fault Gamefreak for it. Even I have a hard time separating the two. Also probably worth noticing that dragons come up several times in the Bible, usually in relation to Satan. Ultra Necrozma does gain the dragon type after all.

Two figures, sometimes of ambiguous gender, both associated with the 3rd brightest object in the sky? Interesting. Very interesting.

If you're still reading, congrats, we're talking about alchemy now.

It was pretty hard to understand where they were going with this until we got USUM. USUM introduced Team Rainbow Rocket, Giovanni's attempt to gather past evil the leaders into a league of supervillains (who you demolish). Seemed simple enough. Haha, Necrozma is a light god. Z-Crystals are shards of its light because it's a prism. Cool.

But maybe not the whole story. I introduce to you: The Prima Materia.

In alchemy, Prima Materia is a substance that acts as the base form of all matter. It is similar to aether. a book called the Theatrum Chemicum contains the following passage about it.

"They have compared the "prima materia" to everything, to male and female, to the [redacted]*, to heaven and earth, to body and spirit, chaos, microcosm, and the confused mass; it contains in itself all colors and potentially all metals; there is nothing more wonderful in the world, for it begets itself, conceives itself, and gives birth to itself.

*the word used here is considered a slur against intersex people, so I excluded it

Furthermore, the Lexicon Alchemaie (which i would have checked more in depth but I don't speak Latin), lists names alchemists have used for the Prima Materia. Ones that stand out to me are: heaven, the dragon, heart of the sun, spittle of the moon, Venus, the rainbow. The Prima Materia is required in the creation of the Philosopher's Stone.

In USUM, instead of Nihilego, Lusamine beings forth Necrozma. The Aether Foundation's name comes full circle here. Aether as an alchemical element is frequently associated with light and gravity.

What I'm saying is, Necrozma isn't just light. it's alchemical light. it is the Prima Materia. The energy it emits becomes other things (in this case, the Pokemon types).

Now let's take this a step further, with Type: Null and Silvally. They don't directly relate to Necrozma, but I do believe they have an alchemical inspiration that ties them to Necrozma's mythological position in comparison to Arceus.

According to Bulbapedia, Type: Null was created using cells from all known pokemon types. It was supposed to be able to change types with RKS system, inspired by tales of Arceus. There were complications with them going berserk and the project was deemed a failure.

Type: Null is a failed Philosopher's Stone, until the power of love completed it.

With high friendship, Type: Null evolves into Silvally. It breaks free of the limiter attached to its head and regains use of the RKS system, this time without going berserk. Gladion, a kid, achieves what a bunch of detached adult scientists could not.

It seems love and light are very similar concepts, at least in the Pokemon world. The fairy types are heavily associated with light, super effective against dark types, and a certain pokemon repping them when they first got revealed evolves when it loves you (and has a fairy type move).

Now, it's still difficult to say where Necrozma stands in Pokemon's mythology. It's from another world entirely. The question is whether or not Arceus has influence in those worlds. It's God. It should, right? I think there's a few possibilities, but I don't have enough information to decide for sure

-Necrozma is equivalent to Arceus in its own world. Ultra Beasts may not be described as pokemon, but they have types and use moves like them, so they must be something similar but adapted to a different environment. This one's a bit of a stretch.

-Necrozma is a creation of Arceus like everything else and plays an important function, it just made a home in a different area of time and space, or much like Giratina (another Satan inspired pokemon who is dragon type) it was sent there for some reason.

-Less likely, Necrozma is above Arceus, not as a god but a primal energy gained beast-like sentience, the divine Chaos from which Arceus came

One potential hint at this relation may lie in Arceus' name. It's likely this is a coincidence, and they didn't intend this from the get-go, but it did just happen to fit the alchemy theme. There is another concept: Archeus. Archeus is, according to Wiktionary: "The vital principle or force believed by the Paracelsians to be responsible for alchemical reactions within living bodies, and hence for the growth and continuation of life." It is another name for Anima Mundi, the soul of the world. The divine spark. Archeus has four aspects: Life, Light, Chemical, and Reflective.

I haven't worked out yet what this means, unfortunately. I could be connecting a bunch of weird mythological coincidences. But it was very fun. I would like to discuss some less grand alchemical connections in Alola sometime. Those would require a bit more research and milling over however. I genuinely wish I could give you a more satisfying conclusion here.

Altogether, I hope this gives you food for thought.

UPDATE: more thoughts

there's something I wanted to talk about that I forgot when previously writing this, and I've had more time to mull over previous thoughts.

This next section will start with the elements of gender ambiguity with Inanna and Lucifer, and how that connects to alchemy. Rebis.

An end product of the Magnum Opus (creation of the Philosopher's Stone), the Rebis is a fusion of spirit and matter, imbued with male and female qualities. (Lot of the use of that word I omitted earlier here so be advised if you look into it more). While lacking in the two heads, that certainly lines up with the element of gender ambiguity. Ultra Necrozma is the being at its strongest, when it is full of the much needed light its body had been starving for.

Another interesting bit regarding the Rebis is it is considered the result of "reconciliation of opposites", and imagery around it is called a chemical wedding. This is symbolized by the coming together of a king and queen, the king in red and the queen in white, each symbolizing the sun and moon respectively.

While Solgaleo and Lunala do not fit so neatly into the references to mesopotamian myth (Shamash and Sin are both male, Shamash is Ishtar's brother and Sin their father), this might add some ideas for how Solgaleo and Lunala connect to Necrozma. They are all beings of light after all, and Necrozma is able to siphon it from them when fusing with them in USUM.

I believe Necrozma may be a possible evolution of Cosmog. Bear with me, please.

Obviously, this isn't reflected in gameplay. What Cosmog evolves into depends on your version of the game. But Solgaleo and Lunala are framed as mates. You can get a second Cosmog in both games, and when you do, the other game's legendary appears. They are also referred as appearing to be male and female respectively in their Pokedex entries despite having no gender in the actual game data.

But what is Cosmog and Cosmoem in this case then? Well besides being based on nebulas, I think it may be another concept called filius philosophorum, "Philosopher's Child". One of the Filius' ways of being represented is by the Rebis, as well as a direct child of the red king and white queen. Many sites mention an egg as a symbol but don't elaborate further (like baby name websites they often feed off each other indefinitely).

Now Cosmog's name is the same in all languages, but Cosmoem's is not. It's Japanese name is Cosmovum. Cosmos and ovum. Ovum as in egg. The -em in Cosmoem's name may also be for embryo. whoever wrote the trivia section for it's Bulbapedia stage thinks it has elements of both the sun and moon in its design, and I'm inclined to agree. It also mentions something called the world egg.

The world egg is a mythological concept that spans across multiple cosmologies, but because alchemy often takes from the Greek cosmology I'll stick to that. Within Greek myth we are given the Orphic Egg, from which the primordial deity Phanes is born. Phanes' name meaning "to light, or to shine". He is described bearing a helmet and golden wings, largely referred to as male but sometimes as androgynous. His parentage varies, with having no parents at all, to Chronos (time), to Chaos, to Nyx (night). He is described as creating all other gods, or creating the day depending on the telling.

Necrozma is also Phanes, a being of light, born from a divine egg. Necrozma is a more perfect path of evolution than it's parents, but this is likely triggered by something far beyond the control of the player.

(Addendum: If you think this also sounds similar to books about Arceus in the Canalave library, you'd be right. That myth was applied to Arceus first, which makes some interesting implications.)

Now you may be thinking "wow a lot of these concepts sound like ways to talk about the Philosopher's Stone", and you'd probably be right. The Magnum Opus had many names and many ways of representing it visually, mostly alchemists wanted to keep their trade secrets. But there is an interesting one.

The ouroboros. A symbol of unity, eternity, and endless cycles. The beginning and the end are intrinsically connected.

What is Necrozma doing when you meet it in USUM? it's desperately looking for light. It can't make it on its own anymore. It's base form dex entries describe it as craving light, going dormant when it can't find it.

Ultra Sun: It looks somehow pained as it rages around in search of light, which serves as its energy. It's apparently from another world.

Ultra Moon: Light is the source of its energy. If it isn't devouring light, impurities build up in it and on it, and Necrozma darkens and stops moving.

Necrozma is burning out like an old star. Necros, death.

The Philosopher's Stone is often visualized in modern media as a gem, much like it's body in this form. When the power is expended, Necrozma will be just another rock. It is a transient being. Much like the Great Work, perfection is not sustainable in practice.

But it's not all bad. Phanes, again, is also described as creating other gods. In time, it's body will break down and may become a new Cosmog. The end begets the beginning. The Prima Materia is after all, important in the Great Work's culmination.

There is another being described as creating all else though, in Pokemon. Once again it rolls back around to Arceus.

In Platinum and HGSS Pokedex entries, Arceus' goes as follows: It is said to have emerged from an egg in a place where there was nothing, then shaped the world.

These beings are connected somehow, but after more research from my first version of this I've come to the conclusion that while Necrozma and Arceus are similar (remember, Arceus can be any type, Necrozma's light becomes the differently typed Z-Crystals), Necrozma is inherently more flawed and impermanent.

It's important also to remember that the Philosopher's Stone is the work of humans. It's not divine but comes from a desire to come close to it. I can't say the same about Solgaleo and Lunala, but it's possible that Necrozma isn't natural. Necrozma was made. By whom? Who knows, but probably someone from the Ultra Recon Squad's dimension. This is merely a guess. It could just be a natural but rare occurrence. From what we've been given, this anyone's guess. Maybe were not even meant to know. Whatever the case, Necrozma is a transient being, Arceus-like but ultimately imperfect. The cycle continues eternally.

BONUS ROUND: tria prima

In the very introduction of this post I mentioned the 3 primes, and the starters's first forms having similarities to their symbols. I'm aware there are likely many alchemical connections in the story that I haven't noticed yet but I wanted to discuss something more with that.

Paracelsus described the primes (sulphur, mercury, and salt) as materials from which all things are made. This is not entirely literal. Alchemy wasn't just chemistry, it was spiritual. Each prime has a different quality.

Sulphur is combustibility, soul, the divine spark

Mercury is volatility, spirit (mind), consciousness

Salt is neither, it is the body that holds them

One of the biggest examples for this is that in say, burning a piece of wood. The fire was sulphur, the smoke was mercury, and the ash was salt.

The tria prima sound a lot like prima materia don't they? It's kind of poetic the way this is implemented in USUM. You begin your journey with a prime material and it's biggest climax is with another prime material. Just as the end begets the beginning, the beginning begets the end.

Note for potential future update: Two substances were added to this later on: phlegm and caput mortuum (Latin for "dead head"). Caput Mortuum was waste product in a reaction. Phlegm, in the alchemical sense is "A watery distillation, especially one obtained from plant matter; an aqueous solution.", to quote Wiktionary. Phlegm was also considered a waste product. CM was produced by sublimation, and Phlegm by distillation. Phlegm doesn't appear to have a symbol but CM does: a skull.

what are your opinions on your own country's hetalia character (if they exist)? if they don't, what's your ideal hetalia character/personality for your country? for me, i used to be a hetalia fan way back in 2012 and my country didn't have a character, so we just made OC interpretations which was pretty fun tbh. there was even a popular unofficial ship between my country's most popular OC version and another for historical ties. now i come back to hetalia and my country has a canon character and it feels surreal. he's nothing like the OC versions but i still like him <3

First of all, congrats on your country becoming a canon character, this is wonderful, especially if you’re enjoying him! It’s probably a bittersweet feeling, considering you had your OC version for so long, it’s probably very dear to you, so I’m glad the canon version still makes you happy <3

We’re from Russia, but I was born in Turkmenistan, so I guess I’ll answer about both.

Sooo Vanya is our boy! And I don’t draw him very often, but it’s just because I get too preoccupied with drawing other characters whom I also adore. But still, we love him very much, both his cute and scary side. That’s probably expected of us, since we love yandere/yangire/sadodere type in general lol

Not to get too deep here, but I think Himaruya did a good job in capturing the contrast between two sides that are usually attributed to Russia: simplicity and scariness. I really don’t like it when Russia and Russians in media (and in general) are defaulted to being an absolute irrational evil, and despite being the scariest (almost satanic lol) character from the main cast, Ivan feels ehh more nuanced than that? At least he is more entertaining because of how weird his schemes are and how simple his actual desires are. It’s like… demonizing, but in a fun over-the-top way, not in a superhero movie villain type of way.

Now, Turkmenistan, who isn’t a character in Hetalia and honestly it’s a shame. If you’ve heard anything about this country, you know what I’m talking about: a rapping president? Horses and dogs everywhere? A rapping president on a horse? A fucking monument for a book that the president has written? Turkmenistan would be so over the top and obnoxious and I personally would love him to death.

I don’t have an OC of Turkmenistan, but I do have Ashgabat (the capital of Turkmenistan). This is a super old drawing though, from 2018, he needs redesigning...

He wears a white coat and has super white teeth, because the city of Ashgabat is like 85% white marble. He has a lot of money (coming from all the natural gas and oil), but wastes it on luxurious clothes, accessories and mobile phones. Without his expensive clothes, he looks kind of plain. He also manages to be very naive and cunning at the same time. He really wants to look cool, modern and tech-forward, but he’s too traditional and conservative to pull it off. But he’s very good with horses and dogs: Akhal-teke and alabay are his pride and joy. Oh, and he RAPS. Obviously, he raps…

1 this game is so fucking pretty

2 Ryu ga gotoku games are like. 1/3 fun weird do what you want slice of life 1/3 serious deadly angst crime drama 1/3 cutscenesssss (the movies so many movies and I'm used to kingdom hearts level cutscenes but damn rgg games feel like I'm Playing a yakuza TV show sometimes for both good and bad)

5 finally a return to form in the sense there's MULTIPLE CUTE MEN ON SCREEN. Yakuza 0, Kiwami 1, Kiwami 2 all basically gave u hot leads and hot bad guys. Basically if a fucker was hot and not ur best friend then he was gonna be the main villain. Then I played Yakuza 7 Like a Dragon and for the most part very few hotties (saeko, tianyou, the guy with white hair, and maybe ichiban if you happen to like that kinda guy but if u didn't think kiryu was eyecandy then ichiban isnt really either). I'm glad there's now like at least 1 cutie on screen again at all times. Cause I can be shallow sometimes. Djdjf also the pick for Yagamis coworker ex yakuza guy is like nishiki eye candy compared to the kiryu/ichiban variety (which I love with my whole heart but it's not oogle type). His coworker is like akiyama or Tachibana or majima design wise. It's <3 and with a flowery kiryu type shirt but long sleeved and silky

6 I am still reeling that ur basically playing Phoenix Wright if he fucked up and saved a serial killer. But still impressive u know, to win as a defense attorney in Japan with that 99.9 conviction rate (also kudos to the game saying it immediately). I wonder if Yagami has his own Edgeworth? 8 I actually love the detective portions which I imagine annoyed some people but I love being a little fucking detective figuring stuff out it's why I love Devil Summoner Raidou game and mystery shows and novels and its just fun to me puts a little spice on a murder mystery story shdhd in yakuza games kiryu just hears a bitch dies, now I get to go figure out if the fucker actually killed someone. It's fun to be in like a random outsiders shoes while functionally the same opening to Yakuza 0 happens where kiryu doesn't kill a guy but is suspected. Except instead of playing the suspect, u play the outsider trying to figure out who's actually dropping ppl dead in kamurocho. It's a nice fresh perspective shift on a pretty common plot occurrence in the yakuza games.

Ayup, that looks about right! especially with how ahit fics had quite the focus on worldbuilding, in BOTH the big aus.

Oh thats EASY, details obvs are the hyphenated descriptors, those are a staple of my writing style for quite a while now. Tropes.... lots of like, the nature-of-being stuff, body swap/sharing/possession tropes and especially how that feeds into the body-and-mind connection/weird brainshit (see: Beingverse both Snatcher and Hattie picking up instincts and thought patterns from each others' species AND life experiences, Theophagy Marcy killing the Core when it was still possessing her and, uh, getting a little of its mental blood in her mouth if u know what i mean). Uhhhh what else, brain-to-brain connections or conversations, blue and orange morality, the general practice of 'hey even ur narstiest villains should have multiple reasons/motivations for doing villainy things', etc etc etc

7. Any worldbuilding you’re particularly proud of?

literally so fucking much where do i Start. Hat game EVERYTHING to do with Subcon/Omnoc history and political onion, but mostly Subcon because the stuff that makes up Subcon worlduilding plays into the actual story, and the plot also plays into it. Pretty much everything about the Thirteenth Crusade for obvious reasons. the Bany Calamity Mechanics Cinematic Universe /j for amphibia stuff, since i use the same assembly of worldbuilding scaffolding for all my fics in that area. Also toad flirting.
