The brainrot took over and so here's a vat7k hadestown au!! Don't know if I'll develop it fully but I liked designing it at least!
More info under the cut:
- Varian, the Coronan royal alchemist, tasks himself with deciphering an incantation capable of bringing the world back into tune. Times are tough, and the royal family + Quirin are doing their best to cope with the meagre crop yields and desolate weather (Corona not really being the sunshine kingdom - hasn't been for a while). He wants to help and do good and I think he'd be a good Orpheus.
- Hugo, having moved about from place to place, still has his interest in alchemy and does what he can to get by. He plans on temporarily staying in Corona before looting, but he encounters a certain like-minded scientist at the Snuggly Duckling. I think him being selfish works especially well in Eurydice's role, having a more pessimistic view of the world. It also works with how he gets drawn to Donella's offer of working for her later on, leading him to his death.
- Ulla as Persephone! I was initially stuck on whether to have Rapunzel (and either Eugene/Cass) as her (and Hades) but I was drawn to the connection that Hugo has to Donella and the Donella/Ulla relationship in vat7k just works too well. In this case, Ulla won't be Varian's mother. She's still gonna be somewhat of an inspiration to him though, being the previous Coronan royal alchemist and for her intelligence. For half the year, she'll return to Corona with food, drinks, and alchemical compounds/inventions, bringing Spring and Summer to the world, if only for a bit.
- Donella would be such an interesting Hades, losing sight of her love for Ulla, heart filled with fear and hurt, leading to bitterness and cruelty. Ingvarr being Hadestown and how by being the esteemed Ingvarrian engineer, she'd be in charge of major technological advances across the kingdoms and so would wield a significant amount of power (like how Hades is literally the ruler of the underworld). Ingvarr essentially being a near death sentence for its workers while also displaying its technological prowess, all still shrouded in mystery and corruption - a place so otherworldly compared to the rest of the kingdoms.
I didn't want to modify the outfits too much nor the personalities,, if anything I imagine the general plot beats being the same as the original musical/story but with slight differences that'd you get inherently as a result of these characters. I wouldn't want it to be the case where it's just the show but the names are changed. I'd want this to still make reasonable sense in this AU, with the actions being understandable for this particular cast of characters.
For Hermes, I ended up picking Xavier, as he's most knowledgeable of old legends and stories, which would work in reference to the Hades and Persephone myth (and so Donella and Ulla)! He'd act as a mentor figure for V, someone who can guide him in uncovering the forgotten incantation. Quirin would still be the good supportive dad he is (even if he doesn't fully understand his son's project).
Last but not least, the fates!! often lurking in the background, I'm still a bit stuck on who it could be? I'm tempted to have it be Raps, Cass, and Nuru as they've had celestial connections at some point (and ya know how stars can represent fate), but I also love the freckled siblings dynamic so much. Also Team Radical... Maybe Raps and Cass can be their normal selves but their Sundrop/Moonstone counterparts are the manifested physical forms of the fates? They wouldn't be visible to the characters though, just voices in the wind.
Anyways yeah!! Those are my thoughts. Do let me know if you've got any cool ideas or questions. I'm really combining my interests at full force and there's nothing anyone, not even myself, can do about it quite frankly. 😮‍💨

also bats aren’t as dangerous to humans as people think. First of all they can’t physically hurt us more than a tiny mouse biting, which is unlikely anyway as bats generally avoid humans (and vampire bats don’t really drink human blood and if they do their bite is not very painful).
as for disease. Yes rabies are horrid, but you’re more likely to get those from a dog than a bat, and the rule of “just don’t go bothering and petting wildlife” generally applies. Growing up I was taught that stray dogs and deer or bunnies that act strange are the issue. Any wild animal that is too sick to run away or be bothered by a human could get you terribly sick. Every professional bat researcher I heard speak about this says they get appropriate vaccines but never had an issue with infections in general. and as for Covid and corona viruses in general? Yes bats do carry it, but so far the strains that were found first jumped to another animal, mutated, and only then got to humans. It’s actually a sign of humans encroaching on bat habitats, you get closer and closer to their caves, cut down forests, destroy sources of food, and the bats are forced in closer contact to human settlements. There was research in Australia showing how healthy bats are actually very good at keeping viruses in check. It’s only when their food sources dwindle and they get weaker that their immune system can no longer cope and they start infecting other species. And we need them! They’re extremely crucial to ecosystems all over the world! Entire agriculture systems would collapse without them!

Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Oh, don’t worry about Viren, everything will be fine.”
Did you notice the way Soren hesitated when addressing Viren by his name? gahhh this poor man deserves happiness why can’t he get a breakkkk—
I wonder if they’re gonna pull some “Father-Lord” shit like Zuko and reference atla
THE WAY HIS FACE FALLS THE MOMENT HE LEAVES THE ROOM 😭😭😭😭
*crying noises*
Tumblr media
“Oh, Soren, my son. Is that you?”
Woah Viren’s been in that cell for a while
There’s gonna be so much to unpack here watch
The way Soren absolutely refuses to look at Viren speaks volumes he’s so done taking Viren’s shit
And it’s the one time Viren isn’t giving Soren shit but he’s burned their bridge so badly Soren’s lost all faith and respect
Not to mention Viren took Claudia away from him too in a way
Tumblr media
Lmao why was stella trying to steal callum’s book—
I wonder if Rayla learned that lullaby she’s singing from her parents
OOH or even runaan or Ethari—
Nah my bet is her parents
Tumblr media
“Maybe I just want to see you suffering.”
Okay the repetition of the scene is totally intentional what are they trying to convey
Why does Soren keep going down there to see Viren when he knows all Viren has done is hurt him? What does he want?
Tumblr media
“But with my eyes open, I also see… you.”
NO CUZ it’s the way Soren IMMEDIATELY starts crying when Viren says “you”
Like all he ever wanted was some form of acknowledgement from Viren his WHOLE LIFE but now that he’s got it it’s too late
Soren desperately wants to believe Viren but he’s been hurt so many times he doesn’t allow himself to
Tumblr media
“Everything you’re telling me is… is some kind of lie!”
SEE THIS IS WHAT I MEAN
Viren has given Soren some serious trauma and self-worth issues, and even after two years of virtual peace, he’s still keeping it in
Everyone he trusted either didn’t care or isn’t even present in his life (lissa), so he always kept it in, using his “class clown himbo” facade as a coping mechanism
But now that his entire childhood trauma is literally sitting there staring at him he can’t take the idea of working through it all and that’s why he blew up
Tumblr media
SEE NOW HE DOESN’T WANNA TALK ANYMORE
I wanna say he’s just not ready to face Viren but at the same time I don’t think he’s ever gonna be ready he just has to take the plunge
Wait is that Fen—
I thought he was with amaya in xadia
Did he get demoted lmao—
Wait does the standing battalion outrank the crownguard or the other way around
Tumblr media
“On moonless nights you miss her the most.”
That is so sad omg—
Luna Tenebris disappeared centuries ago too so Esmeray’s been hurting for a really long time
Imagine that i could never 😭
Tumblr media
“It’s the Corona of the Heavens.”
WAIT I THOUGHT VIREN’S STAFF HAD A QUASAR DIAMOND—
If all 3 are in the crown wtf is the stone in his staff
Tumblr media
OH THE BLINDFOLD DESIGNS ARE LITTLE EYES I SEE IT NOW
OH WOW KOSMO’S CONNECTING TO THE STARS
Just like that huh
WOAH KOSMO PREDICTING FUTURES HERE
Tumblr media
“But your path is… darkness.”
Does that mean callum is still on the dark path aaravos was talking about in s4? Or is kosmo just reflecting callum’s soul from his past usage of dark magic like how sol regem sensed it
Tumblr media
Oh? Soren’s back
I wonder why he went back
“If you do not accept my words now, Soren, I want you to have them in the future… when you might need them.”
Okay nah this has got to be foreshadowing or something wtf is going to happen to soren—
Omg this was essentially a soren character study sorry lmaooo. I’m not too learned in trauma and all that stuff this is just my take on what’s going on with him I’m just really invested cuz he’s my bbg princess and i need him to be okay 💀
ANYWAYS considering that Rayla really connected with Esmeray in this season i wonder if she’s gonna have some plot relevance later on (i hope so esmeray is fuckin cool) especially cuz even kosmo commented on it and he can see the future. Soren BETTER BE OKAY by the end of this season i can’t take his pain 😭. And also i am SO EXCITED for rayla to see her parents again and for runaan to FINALLY go back to ethari like he DESERVES GAHH—
But yeah good episode good episode 👍

either cam or gideon for the character thing!!!
GAH!!!! picking gideon because you already did cam also i want to talk about gideon nav my best friend gideon nav
favorite thing about them: how do i even begin.... i love that she isn't a hero and doesn't become one through the narrative, i love that she is so blatantly posturing all of the time and she builds herself up to be this big confident sexy funnyman because she needs that to keep herself afloat but what she is in reality isn't any lesser! she is funny and she's shy and nervous and she's so powerfully butch to the bone in a way that avoids all negative stereotypes but still manages to highlight the pitfalls butches find themselves in. she has so many layers and people reduce her to some kind of himbo when in reality she's objectively both too mean and too intelligent to be a himbo. i love that you can sense from the very beginning that she is sitting on a massive broiling lake of sadness and for all of her posturing she is both incredibly delicate and one of the strongest characters in the story. i love that she sucks so bad and died a virgin like christ jesus and even missing half her soul she remains consistent not in her outward personality but in her ability to shield her soft underbelly through some sort of performative attitude but EVERYONE can see right through her except gideon herself because everything she does is loud and annoying. she's impulsive and passionate and. incredibly annoying. i hate her and she's my favorite person ever
least favorite thing about them: probably the war crimes but it's not like she's passionate about war crimes she just doesn't gaf. this is just what a lesbian situationship will do to a guy
favorite line: literally all of them man everything she says makes me laugh.... here are some standouts though: - "If my heart had a dick you would kick it" - "I have lots of fealty in me. I fealt the Emperor with every bone in my body. I fealt hard" - "You've got two short minutes left before I punch you right in the butthole" - everything she says when talking to ianthe
brOTP: her and camilla ooooohhhh..... also her and pal. gideon works so well with the sixth house because they're just as annoying and generally peculiar as her they're just more lowkey about it
OTP: i'd have to say griddlehark because i have never stopped thinking about them ever but i do enjoy gideon x camilla (i forgot their ship name) because the cav4cav shit is so good godddd they're just two sides of the same coin, the same story with different upbringings they would help each other out
nOTP: not a huge fan of gideon and corona just because i think corona needs to chase someone who doesn't like her for enrichment purposes and gideon's schoolgirl crush on corona probably doesn't translate well into an actual relationship (let's be real though none of these relationships are going "well") but it is an interesting dynamic
random headcanon: i think she is really gross. genuinely. she picks her nose and doesn't wash her face and harrow gets on her ass about it which i guess is reasonable. also more intense but i definitely think both gideon and harrow have food issues but while harrow copes by being intensely picky gideon has some textual evidence of binge eating which makes sense to me character wise and also would explain why she developed muscle on planet malnutrition
unpopular opinion: i don't really have any once again?? i guess i like to imagine she isn't as attractive as she thinks she is but a lot of people write and draw her as a lesbian adonis which i understand because thats how she describes herself lmao. i think she's kind of cute in a weird way and tamsyn describes her as boyishly pretty so in my mind she's the kind of hot a straight man would never agree with. she is still the hottest person in the world to me
song i associate with them: I HAVE SO MANY. main ones are: father by the front bottoms, dance in room song by sipper, bodysnatchers by radiohead, suffering jukebox by silver jews, knife in the coffee by car seat headrest
favorite picture of them: this fanart: (this artist does such a delicious gideon ohhh i need her.) https://www.tumblr.com/bastardnoodle/741903153830723584/im-in-the-middle-of-reading-harrow-and-i-miss-her?source=share

Remember lockdown?
I mean REALLY remember.
-How at the beginning we had no clue how long it was going to last and if we had we wouldn’t have believed it?
-How the news from everywhere was so terrifying and uncertain?
-That insanely disturbing version of “Imagine”?
-That first mask you got?
-Losing all track of time?
The list gets long. So much confusion, so much illness and loss, cabin fever, introspection. Everyone just trying to cope and survive and help each other to do the same.
Well, I started a project right at the beginning of lockdown to help myself and whoever wanted to join in, to process some of these feelings and to find a way through together, not just the pandemic but as was revealed to us all, life itself.
The result was the Star & Crown Oracle. The name is a play on the word “Corona” which means both “Star” and “Crown.”
27 artists and myself collaborated to create an amazing 59-card Oracle deck.  This deck is an inspired expression of love and hope and survival that speaks not just to the time it was made, but to all the times we are faced with the strange and unknown and doing so with courage and spirit.
Star & Crown Oracle is on special offer right now directly from my website.
Greet the change of season with this one-of-a-kind, limited edition deck.
Order now and get free shipping worldwide.

i was going through my notes and found an old write-up from 2020 of modern au headcanons for "the charioteer" characters during covid-19 quarantine (back when "how would fandom X characters handle quarantine?" was a tumblr trend). apparently this was how i was coping with the stress of peak corona times, lol. anyway finally publishing this, three years later!
laurie: his introverted homebody ass is THRIVING in social isolation and wfh. no more awkwardly dodging party invites from people he hates, being dragged to nightclubs, or having to see his stepfather. he gets to stay home all day with ralph and their dog and finish all the books he meant to read, and he is LOVING it. receives a lot of requests to show off his dog during his work zoom meetings.
ralph: is Doing His Duty by staying home on furlough but also going completely stir-crazy. tries to stay sane by feverishly working on dozens of home improvement projects and cleaning the house several times. basically the epitome of that ben wyatt “do you think a depressed person could do THIS???” meme. has gotten into numerous arguments with people at the supermarket who refuse to wear masks or are hoarding enormous supplies of toilet paper (one of these ends up going viral).
andrew: is very sad about being separated from the rest of his religious community now that the churches are closed, but tries to keep a positive outlook on things. shares a lot of resources online about how to help out and staying in touch with one’s faith during “unprecedented times.”
alec: overworked and sleep-deprived nhs junior doctor directly taking care of covid-19 patients. hasn’t physically seen most of his friends or family in months. writes lengthy screeds on social media decrying the dearth of ppe for health care workers and ranting about politics. frequently gets into online fights with strangers who think coronavirus isn’t a big deal. sends ralph unsolicited articles about self-care and mental health tips during a pandemic that ralph pointedly ignores.
sandy: also overworked and sleep-deprived, but much better at concealing it online than alec. has a popular medical instagram where he posts selfies of him and alec with lots of hashtags. obsessively binge-watches cooking videos on youtube in his spare time.
bunny: an essential retail worker who brings this fact up constantly in conversation. secretly flouting social distancing guidelines on his off days to go to parties and hook-up with men on grindr. has the most aesthetically pleasing cloth masks but can’t bother to wear them properly.

Apologies if you've already answered it. I've been reading your metas today and linked posts and ngl I really love them and I feel like we're in full agreement with everything.
With season 2 of Loki merely 6 weeks away (idk, are you going to watch it? I think I will, regardless of my current feelings about it) what are your thoughts about the upcoming season? What do you expect we'll get in it? Do you have any hopes for it, or do you think it will be more of the same. The current promo does not give me a good feeling tbh. Also do you think Hiddleston could leave the mcu at the end of season 2? Or at least if this could be the last time we see TVA Loki. Sorry for lenghty ask 🙈 my season 2 anxiety is off the charts, I expect it will be more of the same with Sylvie leading the story and Loki following her and I'd love to hear your thoughts about s2
Awww, thank you!!! Season 1 was something I felt so deeply for! All my hopes and dreams were focused on it. And then it shattered me in a way I didn’t know was possible. Now, I see that it took me a full year to cope and decode what I was feeling. The metas I wrote during this time (including the survey) are more like an open diary of how I processed the show and stabilized my mental health. It means a lot to me that now those thoughts may help others, too. 💚
I’ll put the answers under a cut, because there are some triggers included.
what are your thoughts about the upcoming season? What do you expect we'll get in it?
Frankly, I expect the season to focus mainly on Sylvie and her character development. If I put my criticisms aside and try to see what the creators wanted to do with the series, it looks to me like their only goal for Larry was to morph him from a villain to a hero in a way that would be undeniable for the general audience. This was achieved by him watching the video and finally finding someone he cares for. So his arc was completed in season 1. His role now is probably to serve as a guide for her, and maybe to discover that his true power is only achievable through or with her. I don’t count this as “his” arc especially, but more the core of the general admiration Sylvie is supposed to get from everyone in-universe. It’s a part of being a Mary sue. As is excelling at everything, even stuff that is opposite to your characteristics and you have no former knowledge on that would make it seem believable you’d excel. Like this, you know?
Tumblr media
I‘m quite certain of this because Eric Martin is a huge fan of Sylvie and the ship. If you want to confirm I suggest looking at his Twitter. His tweets imply he intends to stay true to Waldron‘s and Harron‘s original ideas. This was confirmed by some people working on the set of season 2. I made the effort to find the original post, and it turned out that two people contributed to the post I experienced as thoughtful and reliable on Reddit. I personally believe those leaks.
Do you have any hopes for it, or do you think it will be more of the same. The current promo does not give me a good feeling tbh.
I think it will be more of the same. Sorry, I wish I could tell you something more to your taste. I absolutely share this feeling, and so do others.
Also do you think Hiddleston could leave the mcu at the end of season 2?
This article claims that Tom was supposed to leave the MCU at the end of season 1. Allegedly, season 1 was supposed to have 12 episodes and only was cut short because of Corona. This would mean that the original end of season 1 would be now the end of season 2. Does this mean he will leave? I can’t say. Disney‘s stock is progressively decreasing. Social media opinions on the MCU seem to grow more and more negative and depreciating. Perhaps Iger and Feige feel like Tom is one of the last strong pillars and try to keep him. At this point, I wouldn’t put it past them to try to keep the MCU afloat with Tom’s personal fandom. I don’t think that will work since Google stats show that his popularity decreased after season 1 to a point where it is now below the level it was after endgame. But they might attempt it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Or at least if this could be the last time we see TVA Loki.
Even if he leaves I assume cameos are always a possibility, especially now that the studios are utilizing AI. But Loki? I‘m heartbroken, but I am very sure we have seen the last of him in TDW (and Ao3). May his reign bring him all the joy he deserves.
So last but not least:
idk, are you going to watch it?
I honestly don’t know. I certainly won’t pay for it. The last time I always watched the episodes was the day they came out so I could write my thoughts down here. But ngl, I’m tired of the fighting, the anon hate, and the feeling that opinions online are getting more important than the love for Loki. Right now, I’m trying to focus more on my fanfics than on the canon. Season 1 made me unable to continue my fics for almost a year. I don’t want to repeat that with season 2.
I still think that the show has done great harm to the fandom, to (some) people with poor mental health who needed Loki as a focus point, (some) gender-fluid or non-binary people who got exposed to sexism because of it, and possibly Tom‘s reputation (based on the google trends Infos). But for season 2 we know what to expect. We know it’s not Loki but Larry who will appear. And in this case, I think it might be best to leave the season to those it was made for, so they can enjoy it and keep as far away from it as possible.
If you want to watch it and still want to give Disney some negative feedback, I recommend watching every episode more than 7 days after it aired. Afaik Disney only counts views in the first week as real interest. Alternatively, 🏴‍☠️.

I always hear so many Rapunzel fans (and the show narrative) saying “Cassandra shouldn’t bottle her emotions!” “None of this would have happened if she had just opened up to Rapunzel!” And yes, I agree that Cassandra shouldn’t bottle up her emotions, but I want to clear up some points first…
I like the Captain and think that he was avoid father to Cassandra. But similarly to how Fredric couldn’t “separate the father from the king”, I felt that the Captain struggled to separate the father from the Captain. He probably figured that parenting involved some form of discipline, but only knew how to do that as a Captain, not as a parent. And as such, Cassandra was raised as a soldier, rather than as a daughter. Keeping your emotions in check on the battlefield is important, but in real life, it’s important to be more open. We’ve seen that the Captain himself struggles in openly expressing his emotions, and as such, probably wasn’t able to teach Cassandra how to handle her emotions in a healthy way. Nor did Cassunzel ever have a parent that she could open up to, which would be a problem growing up.
But now, onto the part that I take the most issue with. According to the narrative, the one answer to all of Cassandra’s problems, is to open up to Rapunzel.
Why would Cassandra want to open up to somebody that has no respect for her personal boundaries? Much the less her privacy. There’s nothing wrong with Rapunzel wanting to help, but forcing Cassandra to open up and disrespecting her boundaries isn’t going to encourage her. It’s a violation of her privacy. You need to back down, while always letting your friend know that you will be there for them if they need you.
I am actually a very private person myself, and don’t spill my innermost thoughts and feelings out to just anyone. Including my closest friends. And if my friend just kept on pushing and demanding that I tell them about “whatever’s bothering me” all the time, it wouldn’t encourage me to open up to them at all. It would push me away.
I think it is also important to add, that Rapunzel is unempathetic and somewhat narcissistic. Rapunzel likes to open up to people, so she can’t understand that other people have different coping mechanisms and don’t like being as open with their feelings. After all, she feels comfortable opening up to everyone, so why wouldn’t Cassandra feel the same?
Does this sound like somebody that you would feel comfortable opening up to? Somebody who disrespects your boundaries and gives you no personal space? Rapunzel struggles in simply being annoyed with Calliope and bottles up negative emotions because she doesn’t know how to deal with them. And this is somebody qualified to help others with their emotions? When you’ve been traumatized, you usually don’t talk about them with the person that traumatized you in the first place. Leaving Corona was the best decision Cassandra ever made in the series.
So Rapunzel fans. Instead of whining about how Cassandra is to blame for not opening up to Rapunzel, consider that Rapunzel is an unhealthy person to open up to in the first place.

Hello! I adore your recent tangled the series au art with The Big Four!! It makes me so happy that fans are still creating art for this crossover! What are your headcanons for this au?
First of all thank you!! The fandom may be small but it's made of some very stubborn people like me lol
Now for the headcanons! (Long train of thought alert)
The story would follow the plot from Before Ever After and the first episode of the show
Until bam! Jack shows up from a portal and apparently he comes from the future?? Also this is Jack after the events of his movie
People can see him bc magic is a thing here (spoiler: his timeline is the same of Tangled, just a few centuries after) (Merida Raps and Hiccup's are from the exact same time period because Tangled said fuck historical accuracy and so do I)
Merida arrives after running away feom her marriage issue, basically instead of the witch she follows the wisps all the way to Corona
Hiccup is there for some dragon research, set between httyd 1 and 2
(yes I have conflicting feelings about The Hidden World and yes this is a way to cope with said feelings) (same for Brave)
Jack sticks around to find a way home since his apparition involved the black rocks and staying with Raps seems a good way to solve the thing
Hiccup stays to escape from his own chief problems for a while, Merida is just stocked about the adventure
Varian and Hiccup become close after they bond over their wanna-make-dad-proud-but-also-other-people situation and their interest for science. I think Hiccup would be the first to really Listen To Him you know?
Meanwhile Merida finds a mentor and a friend in Cass, they train a lot together and have fun
The Queen for a Day events happen and while Hiccup does follow Varian to his dad, Rapunzel isn't able to and Varian Doesn't Like That. The final episodes of s1 follow this
Except when the path of rocks shows up Cass immediatly goes "ok bye losers I'm gonna get myself some power and prove I matter". She isn't really mad at anyone in particular (ok maybe to her dad) but her actions escalate during s2 and s3
It doesn't help that she kidnaps Toothless to get a ride to the Dark Kingdom, needless to say Hiccup is emotionally destroyed after this (but it's a nice chance for a character arc so he can realize he's worthy even without a dragon!)
Which brings us to s2: this time the party is only made of The Four, Lance and Eugene. Sorry Hookfoot and Shorty
It becomes apparent that Jack has some connection to the rocks, but it's another mystery. Hiccup is Sad. Merida is having the time of her life
S2 finale: we get back Toothless but Merida gets convinced by Cass to get the moonstone shard that Rapunzel broke. Merida accepts to ~change her destiny~ (evil arc? evil arc.)
In all this Eugene is going through his personal Identity Crisis with the Dark Kingdom stuff
This is where I haven't thought about plot: at some point in s3 Merida gets a redemption,
Jack discovers that he owns the moonstone from the future (his present) and fixes his broken stuff (you should buy some glue for that thing Jack). He was sent to the past in case the Past!Moonstone gets destroyed or something. Not cool, Sun and Moon, not cool
After an emotional fight with the Four Cass finally regrets her recent life choices and helps Rapunzel defeat Zan Thiri
Character arcs get resolved, people are happy and can go home and they all lived happily ever after!

Cutting Payroll Taxes
President Trump has announced that he is going to pursue a stimulus to our economy in order to cope with its present decline resulting from the Corona Virus and the oil war between Russia and Saudi Arabia. As part of his stimulus, he proposes a cut in payroll taxes—an extremely shortsighted and unwise decision, to say the least. Just listening to this recalls to my mind the words of the great French economist, Frederic Bastiat (1801-1850) in his discussion of “That Which is Seen, and That Which is Not Seen”:
“In the department of economy, an act, a habit, an institution, a law, gives birth not only to an effect, but to a series of effects. Of these effects, the first only is immediate: it manifests itself simultaneously with its cause — it is seen. The others unfold in succession — they are not seen: it is well for us, if they are foreseen. Between a good and a bad economist this constitutes the whole difference — the one takes account of the visible effect; the other takes account both of the effects which are seen, and also of those which it is necessary to foresee. Now this difference is enormous, for it almost always happens that when the immediate consequence is favorable, the ultimate consequences are fatal, and the converse. Hence it follows that the bad economist pursues a small present good, which will be followed by a great evil to come, while the true economist pursues a great good to come, — at the risk of a small present evil.”
Reducing payroll taxes to stimulate the economy is easy. It is popular and readily acceptable to those on the receiving end; but, from whence does the money come to pay our Social Security and Medicare? Does it come out of the air? I don’t think so, and I suspect neither do you. How about when the time comes to reinstate these tax cuts? How popular and readily acceptable will that be then? How much harder will it be for our Representatives and Senators in the Congress to sell to the people?
Let us pursue this a little further. It is common knowledge that present payments into the fund are insufficient, and tax collections must be increased in order for the fund to remain solvent. How acceptable will that be? Now, when you add this increase to the reinstatement above, how much more difficult will that be to achieve? Are we just going to let our Social Security fund go broke?
But we are not only talking about Social Security. Also included in those payroll deductions are payments for Medicare. Although not frequently discussed, it too is common knowledge, i.e. everybody knows it or should, that Medicare is insufficiently funded. In fact, it is a major contributor to our annual government deficit and, therefore, national debt.
If our long range intent is to keep and improve these benefits for the good of our people, it would seem to me that cutting these payroll deductions to stimulate an already over-stimulated economy (One should note that the preponderance of spending by our country and our people is supported by borrowing, i.e. national debt, credit cards, mortgages, student loans, auto financing, payday loans at 100% interest plus, etc.) is, to say the least, very unwise and short-sighted.
On the other hand, if our plan is to eliminate Social Security and Medicare, this is the way to go. It’s a sure winner.
Hmm… This brings to mind the sayings of Forrest Gump. “You never know what you’re going to get when you open a box of chocolates” I think he also said, “Stupid is as stupid does”.
Also, I am compelled to quote the famous words of William Shakespeare in his play Julius Caesar, when Caesar is warned by the soothsayer to “beware the Ides of March”.
Respectfully,

The Bottom Line
The effectiveness of our actions cannot be measured in the same terms we measure the decline of our ecosystems. Life, and especially living resistance, is so much more than actions taken to influence a scientists’ interpretation of climate meta data and feedback loops. Measuring our efforts by their effectiveness on the scales of dominant society is falling for the same ‘return on investment’ paradigm that has allowed the looting of our habitats.
As long as we do not see our struggles as the continuation of an age-old fight against domination and state coercion [R.F. – see 23 Theses Concerning Revolt], we will be setting forth on half measures leaving the old powers alive underneath the surface, which has only led to an intensification of authoritarianism, ecological degradation and now climate crisis.
Decentralized organizing, non-hierarchical networks and joyful resistance have been and will be the most effective tools to fight the builders of this ecocidal world and to live a life free of oppression. We don’t need political parties or professional leaders to pacify these struggles. We need to support them, help them grow and connect, and show how they already contain the solutions to the interrelated problems of ecological collapse, poverty, and exploitation.
Situations of desperation and perceived emergency create opportunities for authoritarians to increase their power [R.F. – see ‘The Difference Between “Just Coping” & “Not Coping at All”’], and mislead efforts of decentralized movements towards tech-fixes that accelerate neo-colonial extractivism. If people have a desire to attempt to appropriate the state to create more favorable policy conditions for land defenders and ecosystems or become lawyers, this is understandable. The battle against ecological and climate catastrophe already exists, the problem is there are few actually fighting it and taking this battle seriously.
If you are reading this, you are the resistance to ecological catastrophe and the authoritarianism that put the world in this desperate situation.
...“Just as we
refuse to be ruled,
we refuse to rule
over anyone else”...

Lizard Reads Ward
Arc 2: Flare
Lizard Cry Counter: 2
TL;DR: Cool shit happening this arc with more fun worldbuilding around the state of Capes, Victoria’s coping mechanisms and hero complex, and some especially funky stuff exploring other Earths and how the shards/triggers are getting extra-special fucky after Gold Morning. We finally get to meet the rest of the PHO group and they are all wonderful, and Wildbow is flexing with the extended metaphor of powers as trauma. 8.75/10
Alrighty, let’s get wormin’!
Once again, splitting this into mini-arcs so I can keep track of it: 1. Job-Hunting, 2. Broken Trigger Shenanigans, and 3. Group Therapy(?).
Part 1: Job-Hunting
Oh, if this did not capture the soul-crushing nature of the job search so well lol. I really enjoy Victoria’s engagement with each of the big groups that have cropped up since GM, their ideologies, and the optics that each group focuses on. Because if Victoria Dallon understands anything, it’s Aesthetic (in both physical and ideological appearance, thank you Carol (derogatory)). I think the bit where the recruiter asks if Panacea can also be part of the package deal crushed my soul so hard cause mmmmmm. We all have that family member that is perceived very differently from how they actually act towards the people they ostensibly care about. Adding this to the list of times I wanted to hold Victoria gently in my hands.
Crystal continues to be a treat, I appreciate that she doesn’t own scissors. I find it so interesting that she wanted to be part of the Parahuman Paramilitary, but I guess stability has its allure in times of absolute chaos. Also gonna slide in here the bit about the people Victoria talked to about joining the totally-not-a-cult that comes back later in the arc, I appreciate the “if I can save even one person it will have been worth it” mentality.
The hospital scene was really nice, both with Tempera/Fume Hood and then taking the kids flying. I think a lot of people can be very cynical about how doing stuff for others can be very self-serving (esp someone as famously cynical as WB /affectionate), but I think that this came across very genuinely, and it’s actually something that can be very good for trauma recovery by just doing things to get yourself out of your own head. Especially when it came to the kid with the friend who had triggered, Victoria really didn’t have to go out her way to make sure that the kid was taken care of. I think that this once again shows her character. Taylor could never (shoutout to the kids that triggered in her territory).
Part 2: Broken Trigger Shenanigans
Oh man oh man oh man. I really did come into this part with a sigh because really, up until now Wildbow had not wowed me with the new stuff he was exploring with powers/shards, but this section grabbed me by the throat and threw me across the room into a brick wall. I appreciate that this is carving out Ward’s new identity as its own story with more to say outside of just Victoria, but also work as reflections of her and her unique experiences with her power/shard. It’s neat!
But aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa man this was downright tragic to read. Once again, WB hits with the suspense of “something is happening on a timeline, and all you can do it be there for when shit hits the fan.” The Parahuman Paramilitary was funky and off-putting as any type of military institution tends to be. Because ACAB, that’s why.
Corona Pollentia warfare was enacted here, and the fact that people were literally stopped in space was horrifying and distressing as all hell, Worm never really got to touch on when triggers went wrong because shit was already bad enough being, well, triggers. But the bit at the end with the last guy standing not wanting to be subsumed into a collective (shard/entity?) consciousness was haunting as hell and so, so cool. I can’t wait to see how the entities continue to fuck around and Victoria and the Gang continue to find out.
Part 3: Group Therapy(?)
Subsisting off of a comfort diet of brownie ice cream and shit TV, Victoria hangs out and Dr. Yamada pulls back the curtain on doctor-patient relationships. Therapists are people too! But it was nice that she thought of giving Victoria something therapy-related to do, even if it was ultimately a ploy to get Victoria to join her little group therapy team and (unsuccessfully) talk them out of doing the whole hero team thing.
But mmm, I do love me these guys now that we get to really meet them, so down the line we go again!
Kenzie: Still the love of my life, I would kill and die for her. She is so damn earnest and I can respect the hell out of that. Include her in things!!! Give her friends!!! Be nice to her!!! Let her make all the boxes!!!!!! Also I will be deeply upset when we figure out her whole backstory. Preparing to be devastated.
Sveta: I love that she and Weld are dating and that she is so happy but knowing Wildbow he’s gonna fuck it up somehow and it pisses me off so bad. But for now I will revel in her joy!!! Let her be happy goddammit!!! Also shoutout to her absolutely owning the disability label, I really was like “ah man this is gonna be implied subtext huh” but nope! And I’m really happy about that! But on god the fact that she has a body now??? And she gets to make it pretty and expressive how she wants it???? Kissing her on her forehead she is too good, great even. Unironically the best character.
Tristan/Byron: Knowing that I have to go back through the PHO chapter and check the timestamps to see which one was in control is simultaneously infuriating and exciting lol. I can’t remember if case 70s appeared in Worm cause if they did I do not remember them. But yet again adding to the weird shit shards do is a thing I will applaud because the specific scenario of “twins who were touching when they triggered” is just horrifying in concept and seems that way in practice as well. I’m placing my bets for the human trafficking being so that they can try to separate themselves. Or something like that IDK. I also wanna slap Tristan on his dumb jock head because sometimes he needs to shut up (tho I feel him. I, too, talk incessantly, see this post series lol). But he gets a pass because he’s nice and makes arms <3
Chris: Breaking out my trusty spray bottle to spritz him every time he’s an antisocial prick. Not necessarily an actual character flaw, I am interested to see what’s gonna happen with this exceptionally small lad, but mmm. He’s an interesting fellow who I think would benefit from touching some grass every now and again. But progress looks different for everyone I guess!
Ashley: She also gets the spray bottle but for being an edgelord. Shadow the Hedgehog called and said tone it down. Once again, very much the Bitch-type of “I have a singular trajectory and will do what I want fuck you all” but in like, a friendship way? Idk, I know everyone loves her (and ships her with Victoria- *cough*) and I also love her, but I would also like to punch her sometimes and I think that is ok! She’s getting better! Maybe! I hope!
Rain: I can smell the little-meow-meow coming off of this guy. This man is a protagonist of another story but got shoved into Ward instead. He is scientifically crafted to be pocket-sized, and if he’s not dead or beat to shit by the end of this story I will eat a shoe. I can tell a sopping wet whipping boy when I see one lol. But in all seriousness, I know that everyone has a lot of shit going on, but Rain’s “it’s complicated” catchphrase is like “Yes, Wildbow, I know he’s your special little guy. It’s ok, you don’t have to be coy about it.” Kinda the way that Amy was in Worm tbh, Wildbow just has favorites he likes to torture sometimes and I have to respect the honesty lol. But yeah, he is genuinely interesting and has some nifty stuff going on w/ his cluster. Very intrigued that Snag is his clustermate, and how their power-exchange works. Again- cool shit!  But oh my god someone’s gonna step on him. Too small lol.
But all that being said, I appreciated the actual group therapy going on here, and that Victoria is getting some buddies to talk stuff through with, even though this really does seem like a setup for failure. The talk about logistics triggered the “gotta schedule D&D” part of my brain and whoo boy that was some anxiety lol. But I am intrigued to see where this lil team goes and what they do in the story moving forward! Also, a very strong end to the Arc with “This is the way things are now” “...Fuck that.” Stuck that landing, let’s get some change rolling!
(Also the interlude was funky, love seeing Weld and Crystalclear again. The theocracy seems like it mayyyy be an issue tho moving forward. Maybe lol)
Final Thoughts
I think that this arc had a lot to offer, and really started to solidify the direction that Ward is gonna try to go in. I can already feel the length of the story though, that 2 arcs have felt like 6, but ya know. It’s the format! But there’s a part of my brain that really wants to go in and cull a lot of stuff that I know people love but is just like...this is so long. But other than that- I think that finally getting around to the new group is good, and I think the biggest takeaway from this arc is the diversity of Shard Shenanigans. Looking forward to that making shit go sideways lol.
But yeah! That’s all I got, not as insightful perhaps as the last couple entries but I hope y’all like the more first-impressions type rambling. As always, would love to hear what y’all think of this arc!
Until next time- Ward out ✨

So I’m catching up on Corona after Dark and they just pointed out some INSANE foreshadowing.
I’m not super well versed in tarot cards but apparently the Moon, the Tower, and the Wheel of Fortune as seen here are real life tarot cards. And this actually foreshadows the future of everyone in the main trio, but also Angry and Catalina’s future in this episode. Cause get this-
First off, as we can see the tower looks like Rapunzel’s old tower. And of course, Cassandra builds her own tower here too. So the sun and moon on the card could be a reference to both the sundrop and the moonstone (Rapunzel and Cassandra) being in their tower. It could also be a connection to the tower getting destroyed in season 1. And even the Dark Kingdom, Eugene’s old home, is a very tower-like structure. However it goes deeper than that. See, in tarot readings the Tower is a sign of great unforseen change, to the level where it seems like your entire world is falling down around you.
And next, the Moon. Of course, they’re looking for the moonstone so this makes perfect sense. But the Moon supposedly means that something is not as it appears to be. There’s an unseen illusion and a hidden enemy.
And the Wheel of Fortune does make the gang realize they have to go to Fortuna to find answers about Angry’s family, but once again it goes deeper. See, the Wheel of Fortune suggests an element of change usually in one’s station or fortune. A poor person will become rich and vice versa.
And what happens in Vigor the Visionary and Destinies Collide??
Moon, hidden enemy. Someone is not as they seem. Angry and Catalina think the Daylight Thieves are their parents and then nearly get attacked by them. Rapunzel thinks no one will betray her and then Cassandra betrays her. Cassandra thinks she could never betray Rapunzel and then Zhan Tiri pretends to be her friend and manipulates her into doing so. Eugene is so certain that Rapunzel’s destiny is the Moonstone but then he himself becomes the hidden enemy by stopping her.
Wheel of Fortune, change in position. Cassandra goes from disgraced lady in waiting to an exiled person now free to make her own choices. Catalina goes from Angry’s close partner in crime to her sister. Eugene goes from thieving orphan/trophy boyfriend to prince and heir to a throne. Rapunzel goes from being adventure hungry to being stationary.
And of course, Tower. The unforseen change. Eugene finds out he’s a prince and his father is alive and has an identity crisis over it because now his entire life has been an unnecessary lie. Rapunzel gets betrayed by her closest friend and literally cannot cope or even acknowledge it for a while. Angry and Catalina thought they found a home but they were betrayed and Angry is left to rethink her entire day. And Cassandra finds out in the worst way possible that pretty much her entire life was also a lie.
