Hey don't mind me, just sharing possibly the cutest thing I've ever drawn! Two sleepy thief girls <3

Part of my end-of-last-year sketchdump on DA; I'm really happy with how it turned out, and I wanted to share it on here too. Both because of being relevant to Angry as a muse I have on this blog, and because I haven't seen as much art around of these two as I'd like.

Though she still scowled up at him, her guard dropped a tiny bit: and that was probably the closest that Eizen was going to get, right now, to an acceptance of his offer of a healing arte. She didn't trust him; no-one tried to help some random little kid, least of all one who'd tried to steal from them... but it wasn't like anything he did could get her into more trouble than she already was.

Besides, if he stopped looking at her to focus on casting whatever arte he had up his sleeve, that might allow her the chance to give him the slip.

Or at least, it would have if he didn't seem to be actually taking her question seriously. Of course Kiera knew that even if he did agree, this would quite possibly be a stupid idea: two little girls boarding a vessel full of bloodthirsty pirates could hardly not end badly... but at the same time? She was, firstly, desperate enough to consider it; and, secondly, confident that she and Catalina could handle themselves if (or when) it came down to it.

"Look, we don't care where, alright? We don't ask about your business, you don't ask about ours. We'll hop off at whatever your next safe port after Midgand is and you'll never see us again. That's all."

Eastgand or Southgand would be nice; but honestly they couldn't afford to be picky. She'd take the frozen wastes of Northgand - or, hell, even the remoteness of Endgand - if it meant getting away from the Baron's reach.

She was also aware that she'd just given the game away here... but honestly, Kiera didn't expect the pirate to have been fooled for a moment by her 'for a friend' pretence anyway: it had just been a way to put a momentary distance between herself and her question in expectation of a negative reaction. (As well as being technically true: she was asking for both herself and a friend.) Being taken seriously was... a change, but one that she could accept, even if it puzzled her.

Of course, in the end it all came down to the gald involved... Kiera honesty hadn't expected anything different. Still, this was the tricky part - because if they'd already had enough to afford passage on a normal ship, they'd already be far away from here. She chewed on her lip a moment.

"We've got some gald." She deliberately kept the number vague. "But it's not enough yet for one of the big merchant ships to take us anywhere."

She returned her gaze to Eizen. "You take us, you can have it all."

As a prelude to the thread I'm about to reply to, I'd just like to leave my headcanon thoughts on Angry and Red and their distinctive skills. As I see it, each of the girls brings a different skillset to their partnership: and while there's some overlap, especially where they've learned from each other, I think they still specialise in different areas.

Angry's main skills, as I see it, are in the infiltration and escape: at getting them in and out of places where they're not supposed to be. She's the expert lockpicker of the two, and the escape artist; she was the one who taught Red how to slip out of handcuffs easily as they repeatedly do in their episode. In her mind she's also the brains, although in actuality Red is smarter than Angry gives her credit for; Angry simply mistakes her quietness for not having any ideas of her own.

Red, in contrast, I see as primarily the thief; she's the one who's best at not drawing attention to herself, the one with the lightest fingers, and as such the more skilful pickpocket of the two. Angry can do these things too but she's clumsier at them: it was, after all, Red who was able to slip the handcuff out of Weasel's hands and lock him and his henchman up in them without either of them noticing until it was too late. Angry couldn't have done that half as neatly, and she knows it: they agreed on their roles in that rescue for just that reason. As such, Angry often acts as the decoy while Red sneaks behind the target and performs the actual theft.

So, this is what I’ve been working on this last week!

I had the idea a while ago, actually. Thought it would be fun to do a picture of all my muses interacting; and since they’re all kids anyway, having them all attend school together seemed a natural idea. I thought I might use it as my blog header in the future, in fact, though I dunno.

I wanted to get it finished in my end-of-year cleanup. I, heh, started the rough sketch when I had just eight muses, so when I decided to pick it back up, I had to extend the picture to add in the additional four puppies as well!

I was undecided for a while on whether to go for the uniforms or not; but I felt like it read more obviously as a school scene if they were all wearing them. Plus, it’s what I’m used to from my own experiences.

I’m honestly really happy with the end result here?

"I don't see what the big deal is. You've got tons of treasure in there. What difference does a few coins make to you, more or less?"

Maybe it had been a bad idea - or even downright stupid - to sneak aboard the foreign ship that had turned up in the local port, but she'd heard some of its crew murmuring amongst themselves about treasure and the girl's sticky fingers had got the better of her common sense. Slipping on board hadn't been so tough, and she'd struck lucky by finding her way to their treasure room on her first try. She'd stuffed her pockets with as much gold as she could fit--

And that had been where her luck had run out.

Still, despite the resentful look lurking in her eye, Kiera sullenly turned out her pockets, sending coins tumbling onto the deck. If the captain was no stranger to dispatching pests - and she got exactly what he meant by that -, she was no stranger to being threatened and wasn't about to let him think he intimidated her.

Still. Even if Kiera was reckless, she didn't have a death wish. Getting skewered by his blade wouldn't exactly do her or Catalina any good; and the captain had her pinned in a corner that not even she could easily slip away from.

"There. Happy now?"

She doubted it. The pout was evident in her tone... but maybe he'd at least be satisfied enough that he wouldn't notice that the gold she'd handed over was still two coins short.

Just wanted to share these! The ones in the first line are probably familiar, they've been decorating my 'primary muses' page for a while now; and I just today drew up the rest of the canon characters I play on here to make the 'secondary muses' page match!

...okay, the observant will notice that this is NOT all of my canon muses: Terra is missing. I tried to include her too, but just couldn't get her looking good today so I decided to just focus on getting everyone else's done instead; she'll be added in the future.

That means that, yeah, I'm going to be removing Terra from my muses page for the time being. She's not going anywhere, is still on this blog; but without a nice matching image for her I feel like it would make the page look messy xD; She's still available for RP and asks and everything; and she'll be back on the page as soon as I get up an image for her, too.

Send “📚” and I will flip to a random page in a book and use the first line of dialogue I see as a starter.

"Your third option, however, includes potential gain for both of us."

The first two options she'd laid out, of course, being that the slightly taller girl could either call the local guards down on her after her failed thievery attempt, or could otherwise simply let her go. One would inconvenience Kiera more than the other, although there was no doubt in the angry girl's mind that she'd get away in the end in either case... but neither of them gained anything from that.

Hence, the third option.

She'd seen the princess splashing around down by the sea earlier. And that had given Angry an idea. She wasn't looking for a permanent partner of course, she already had Red... but she sure wasn't above seizing a chance when it came her way.

Not that she was going to give away any details until the royal decided whether or not she was going to commit.

"Well?" She pressed impatiently. "What do you say?"

“Look, clearly I can’t appeal to your honor. But I have other ways of convincing you.” for Angry!

At first she didn't move; but even so, there was no hiding the way the small girl's eyes slid wider. This could be either really good or really bad for her - other ways of convincing could just as easily mean threats as the bribery she was hoping for - but either way, for the moment Luisa had her attention.

If she was honest, Kiera still hadn't figured the woman out. The child had expected to be in a world of trouble when she'd first been caught by her, and while Luisa had certainly made clear that she wouldn't tolerate any further stealing... she also seemed to be trying to...

Well, Kiera wasn't sure just what she was trying to do. Only that, Luisa at least hadn't immediately brushed her off as not my problem the way practically every other adult in Kiera's life had.

And that... confused her, more than anything.

"...okay. I'm listening."

She was no less sceptical. But it didn't hurt her to at least see what Luisa had in mind.

green depths watched as the shorter paced back and forth... agitation that they had somehow been snubbed, that they somehow had nothing... or at least, that was how it seemed. when angry finally stilled for long enough, red pulled out a single cupcake, presenting it to her friend, her sister. okay, so it wasn't money or anything big... but it was something. and if it made the other happy, she was happy to share.

She wasn't mad at Red, of course; still, with no-one else present, the redhead certainly had to feel as though she was on the receiving end of Angry's frustrated venting at just the world in general. A small part of the black-haired girl knew that she should just keep her frustrations to herself, that her sister hadn't ever asked to deal with this; but when the world continually stomped all over them both, was it any wonder that she got so pissed?

She'd run out of words a while ago, her tirade just sort of running out; but her irritation had not subsided, and she had taken to simply pacing in silence, small fists clenched as she stalked forward and back across their small hideout. Eventually, it would simply subside into quiet sulking for a while, but until then--

Oh, who was she kidding? She was still going to be mad a while yet.

Still, Angry allowed herself a brief pause. Still scowling at nothing in particular, she shoved her hands through her short hair, a motion that still adequately expressed her frustration at more or less everything in that moment.

And it was in that pause, brief though it was, that she noticed her friend's offering.

"Red..."

She was more surprised out of her anger, right then, than anything else. Though Kiera's gaze did dart to the cupcake for a moment, for longer it lingered on the other girl's face. Her friend...

Who, she was only just realising, she'd been neglecting in favour of giving vent to her (many) frustrations. A small amount of guilt curled in the angry child's gut; and even as she wanted to snatch the gifted cupcake right there and stuff her face with it, she was very much aware that Red, who had patiently endured an absolute earful of her ranting against the world at large, deserved it far more than she did.

And yet, Red was...

Greed and conscience warred with each other for long moments before she reached out to the cake. Wrapping one small hand around it, but not lifting it from Red's grasp, not yet. She still wasn't used to... just being given things. Not even by her closest companion in the world.

Nor to fully being considerate of her friend's feelings. But on that count, she was at least trying to learn.

"Are you... sure? I mean, I know I've been..."

She didn't even try to finish the sentence, just gesturing vaguely. Red surely knew that she was referring to the whole last half-hour.

“Boo. Trick or treat!”

Angry hadn’t exactly gone all-out with a costume; she had, however, painted her face to look like a stereotypical vampire, complete with fangs drawn onto her lower lip, and had even acquired a high-collared cape from somewhere.

She may have raided Lance’s wardrobe.

“And by ‘treat’ I mean, give me your gold, your jewels, your money. Basically, this is a hold-up.”

And, here they went... long night it was, then.

Kiera didn’t even bother to hide the eye-roll as she was scooped up. Being dragged around by adults, or even carried like this, wasn’t a new thing for her by this point; and even it's meaning that she was in big trouble didn’t faze her anymore. Whatever the woman would do with her once the necklace had been given back, it couldn’t be worse than what the kids back in the orphanage had used to put her through... or what the Baron would do to her and Catalina if he caught up to them.

Still, she wasn’t exactly going to be quiet about it, either.

“I didn’t forget anything; you can’t forget to pay when you don’t have any money. Why’d you think I took it in the first place?”

Not counting the rewards of previous thefts that she and Catalina had stashed away; but that was being saved up for one very specific purpose - namely buying passage to as far away as they could go - and so barely counted. In fact, the whole reason she’d nicked the expensive-looking necklace at all was to sell it off to add to those funds.

“But not like I get any choice in the matter, is it?”

It wasn’t like she could argue with muscles the size of this lady’s. So clearly, she was going to be apologising, whether she liked it or not... but that didn’t mean she was going to like it. Or be sincere about it.

“Tch.”

She was being made fun of, Kiera was certain.

It wasn’t exactly a difficult assumption to reach, granted. While the Malkuth officer was keeping a carefully neutral tone, the angry little girl was sure she could just see the mockery lurking behind his glasses; and it certainly didn’t improve her mood any, as evidenced by the irritated huff.

She hadn’t exactly been looking for a handout... while Kiera certainly wouldn’t turn down anything that was offered, she would do it with an ungracious attitude and the certainty that the person in question was just trying to get her off their back as quickly as possible. But she’d thought she’d caught a kind of ‘what are you up to?’ look from the military man, and had felt inclined to justify herself somewhat.

Besides. It wasn’t like she had anything better to do than banter with some smug adult.

“What, you’re implying you can even do that? There’s no fonic artes out there that make people taller just like that.”

Were there?

And even if there were, would it really help her? Resent it though she may, there was no denying that her short stature did make her a much more capable thief than she would be if she was twice her current height.
