Jessica Biel for CosmoGirl October/November 1999 by Jodi Bryson
Find out why this 7th Heaven star is the coolest friend a girl could have!
"I'm definitely weird," Jessica Biel confesses as she digs through the knick-knacks in her bedroom. "I have some really wild stuff." She points out her collection of vintage sunglasses, a bunch of so-bright-they're-blinding wigs, dozens of phone numbers taped to the wall, and her favorite Abercrombie & Fitch ad. "He is the hottest Abercrombie model ever," she says.
The 17 year old star of 7th Heaven just finished her third season on the show and aced her junior year of high school. Now she's flinging clothes around her bedroom to prep for a European vacation with two of her closest friends. "I want to go someplace I've never been with people I really love hanging out with," she says. "I want to see some amazing things."
Jessie has that I'll-try-anything-once outlook down pat. She started her career as a model, but at 14 decided to give acting a whirl. Like in a Hollywood fairy tale, she flew to L.A. and had just a few auditions before scoring the primo role of Mary Camden.
Jessie works on 7th Heaven six days a week, nine months a year. But as soon as she steps off the set, straight-arrow Mary vanishes and the real Jessie charms everyone around her with warp-speed chitchat about her big plans for the future (a backpacking trip with her best friend, college, and maybe a second career as a photographer). Clearly, Jessie is ready to take on the world. First stop, Europe!
The Big Trip
"I have no idea what to expect," Jessie says of her European vacation, "but I just can't wait to eat that good food!" Is she worried about travelling to strange countries where she doesn't know a soul? "No, I'm very excited. My mom has a checklist of things for me to do before I go: Make copies of my passport, driver's license, and credit cards; pack these things close to my body but separate from my wallet. My mother has planed it all out -- I just gotta do it."
Jessie makes a surprisingly small pile of clothes at the bottom of her bed, then crams it into a backpack. "I'm honestly taking one pair of pants, a T-shirt, a couple pairs of shorts, a few tank tops, a sweatshirt, a bathing suit, and two pairs of underwear that I'll keep throwing in the sink. My camera is the most important thing."
In addition to taking tons of snaps, Jessie has dreamed up the coolest way to keep track of her European adventures. "Instead of a private diary, I'm going to take a big book, like a communal journal, and anyone can write in it," she says. "If someone says, 'Can I see your journal and write a little entry?' that's cool. It will be nice to look back and read what we all did and what we felt together." Bon voyage!
Best Friends
Her travelling companions are her friends Shane Nelson and Light Dreamer Eternity. "Light rocks so hard," Jessie says. And even though she lives in L.A. now, Jessie is still supertight with her best friend from her hometown of Boulder, Colorado, who's also named Jessie. "I have pictures of Jessie and me stuck all over my room," she says. What's her secret for maintaining such strong friendships? "There's never the silent treatment," Jessie explains. "If I was in a fight with a friend, I would just call and be like, What is the deal? What did I do? What do we need to talk about? How can we get it over with?" Jessie's the kind of friend who wouldn't let you stay mad at her.
A Special Guy
Will her absence make anyone's heart grow fonder? Jessie let it slip that she has a long-distance boyfriend, but then she wouldn't spill a single detail! (And believe us, we begged!) But she did share her sure-fire hook-up advice. "I'm pretty forward with guys," she says. "I'll just walk up to somebody and I'll be really blunt and say, 'What a great-looking person you are! Have an awesome day.'" Does that really work? "Well, I don't say that to a guy because I want him to be my boyfriend," she says. "I just want to tell him." What guy could resist?
Prom Night
Unfortunately, Jessie didn't get to take her secret boyfriend to her junior prom. "I promised Beverley Mitchell [who plays her younger sister Lucy on 7th Heaven] that I'd go to her friend's prom. And she made me promise that I wouldn't back out. I found out a week later that my prom was the exact same day! So I missed my prom to go to another prom with this kid who didn't have a date," she says. She didn't skimp on glamour for her first prom experience: She wore an elegant white cami-and-skirt combo with superhigh-heeled sandals. "It turned out that we had a good time, but Bev totally owes me!"
Bad Behavior
Jessie doesn't always play it so straight and narrow. There's a sneaky story about the pink flamingo hanging from her bedroom ceiling.
"We had just sold our house in Boulder, Colorado, and I loved that house," she says. "I wanted to see it one more time. When my best friend Jessie and I drove up to it, my eyes welled up -- there was a pink flamingo sticking out of my front yard! It was the chessiest thing I'd ever seen. I was not happy with that flamingo. I thought, This has to go. So I ran and ripped it out of the ground. I busted to the car and yelled, 'Go, Jessie, go!' and we just took off. I pulled out the stick and put the flamingo in my suitcase, and took it home with me," she says. "I don't think the family even knew it was missing." Um, Jessie...they do now.
BRIGHT FUTURE
Even though Jessie's a totally fearless adventurer, she still gets homesick for Boulder. "I miss the people, I miss the mountains. It is so laid-back there," she explains. Does she ever see herself going back to settle down in the Rocky Mountain foothills? "I have one more year of high school, which seems like it's going to take forever -- and then I'm on my own! I can be wherever I want to be!" Look out world -- here she comes!"

I wonder what their lives are like I love to see the fairly godparents and godkids duos, I wonder what kinda lives they live
Like there's this duo from the 1999 shorts that's a spoiled girl and his godfather just gives her money to like him ajsbchabs did he get that money through a human job since he can't use magic to get that
There's also this duo on Dog's Day Afternoon who wished to be a frog, she's apparently Wanda's friend and they hang out together while Timmy is with Cosmo
I really wish we saw more of Wanda's friends they're kinda...

I love writing.
I thought, “I’ll be a news writer.”
That was why I went to grad school.
This is why I quit grad school: I learned
that there are only four stories
and there’s only one way to tell each
but no matter what pen I used, new
stories came out, seditious and unwieldy, and I
still can’t stop finding
new ways to tell them.
This is why I
correct typos for a living while
others depict glorious international events in
black, white and read
Virginia Woolf the other day; she
said for a woman to write, she must first kill
the angel in the house.
The grad school chair was too alive
to be an angel, but given another chance
I’d fix that and drive a
red ball-point like a stake through
his shriveled black heart and watch
the ink run out then
wash my hands.
I still read. I read all the time. I read the newspaper.
On the bus. Over the shoulder. Of the person sitting in front of me.
Today, it’s Wednesday but the paper’s stuck on Sunday.
You’ve got to figure, though, with the speed of information
these days, it was out of date on Sunday
even for speed readers, outmoded even before the ink was dry and
here’s the headline: NIGHTMARE IN BAGHDAD:
A WOMAN SEARCHES FOR THE TRUTH
ABOUT THE GULF WAR.
Do you believe everything you read?
Do you believe anything you read in the newspaper?
Teen Pregnancy Up, Moral Decay in America Up,
Rate of Incarceration of Black Males Up,
Dear Beth, Why can’t he get it up?
So, there’s a NIGHTMARE in Baghdad.
Wake up and the nightmare’s gone
It’s not like it affects property values here in
Baghdad-by-the-Bay and
it’s about a woman anyway and it’s in the
newspaper and she’s looking for what
really happened to her son or
something like that I’m sure because it’s a woman and
women are only news when they have
sons or husbands or they’re dead and I’m sure he’s
not really dead since no one
ever really dies in press rhetoric and
anyway it’s only one
woman “searching” for the “truth” so she’s
obviously a kook or a martyr or
both and we can make her disappear by
turning a page we can make thousands of
deaths disappear by talking about collateral
damage we can make thousands of deaths disappear by
not writing about them at all; wasn’t Bosnia
last year?
It’s hard to turn the page of a
newspaper on the bus. You hit the elbow of whoever is
sitting next to you, jostle the hair of the
woman putting on eyeliner in
front of you. It’s messy, yes, and
difficult, but a search for a story, even
just one, is like that
keep turning those pages next page
Headline: 70 YEARS AFTER SUFFRAGE:
WHAT DO WOMEN WANT
Why don’t you go ask the angel in the house?
All she’s doing is reading Cosmo, which won’t cover AIDS
since women aren’t really at risk
no one really dies in the glossy pages with perfume strips
and why dwell on that when you could be talking about
seven ways to drive him wild in bed or six
ways to flatten your stomach or five ways to love your body
(as long as he loves it) or four ways to
dress for dinner or three new hairstyles or two
pages about knowing when it’s over or one story that the
angel knows as she lies on her bed, looking so pretty.
All stretched out, wearing her high, high ivory pedestal heels.
Look at her pretty painted mouth twist in an O as I pluck
her wings feather by feather—it’s painful, yes,
but I guess it’s going to be like that—
and I pull a feather and she’s saying there’s a story—
that one about the woman who bit an apple and ruined the world
and I pull a feather and she’s crying that in the beginning
there was the father, the son and
something invisible
and I yank a handful of feathers and she screams that in
the beginning there was the law, the father
and I shove the feathers in her mouth and tell her, quietly,
that here is the beginning and we have
a murder, a motive and a body of evidence
that here is the beginning and we have
blank walls to write on
that here is the beginning
and we have blood.

Madelyn Renee Cline, born Rachel Marchëtti-Beaulieu Vaart, came into the world in a magnificent sunrise. It was a calm Tuesday on March 02, 1999, under the morning sun and the soft scent of olive trees that dance in the sea breeze, blessed to have the stunning view of the golden vineyards on Sant’Erasmo, a peaceful Island in Venice, Italy.
Madelyn had an exceptionally privileged and extraordinary childhood. From a young age, she had been exposed to a world full of wonders and discoveries. Her parents, both successful in their careers, wealthy and intrepid, were always eager to explore the world and provide unique experiences for their daughter. At just five years old, Madelyn was taken on adventures across the globe when the family moved to Porto-Vecchio, on the sunny coast of Corsica, France. The move to Porto-Vecchio brought with it a stunning new setting for Cline’s adventures. The golden sand beaches and crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean have become her natural playground. The blonde grew up learning to speak several languages and absorbing the rich cultural tapestry that the world offered. Her parents invested not just in luxury hotels but also in authentic experiences, providing her with a broad and intercultural education.
Madelyn emerged as a singular figure, a synthesis of grace and intellect. Her journey began as a tale of ambition and talent, where at the tender age of ten, she dazzled the catwalk with a sophistication beyond her years, challenging the limits of conventional aesthetics. As a model, Cline has appeared in ad campaigns for American Girl, Toys “R” Us, American Eagle, Stella McCartney, Versace, Elle India, and Cosmo. Not content with just gracing fashion stages, she turned her sights to the performing arts, playing roles that echoed her versatility and passion. The blonde spent some of her early summers in New York City working on television commercials and print ads for T-Mobile, Flow Automotive, Next clothing and Sunny D. In 2023, she became a brand ambassador for Tommy Hilfiger and appeared on the “Summer Essentials” lifestyle campaign with Mason Gooding.
But her path wasn’t all glitz and glamour. At seventeen, in a move that echoed the footsteps of the great thinkers who preceded her, Madelyn left Porto-Vecchio, towards the intellectual horizons of New Haven, Connecticut. Her acceptance into the prestigious Yale University to study Law was not just an academic achievement, but rather the culmination of a journey marked by determination and excellence. At Yale, she was not just a student but an inspiring figure, a presence that radiated a commitment to excellence and the relentless pursuit of knowledge. Her days were filled not only with catwalks and film sets, but also with dense volumes of jurisprudence, where she unraveled the mysteries of the law with the same grace that parades on the catwalks.
Madelyn began her career as an actress with minor roles such as Chloe in Boy Erased (2018) and Taylor Watts in Vice Principals (2016–2017). She also had small recurring roles in The Originals (2017) and Stranger Things (2017).
In 2020, Cline began starring as Sarah Cameron in the Netflix teen adventure drama Outer Banks. The series has received positive reviews from critics, with her role considered a breakout. The acclaimed blonde next starred in Rian Johnson’s mystery comedy Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, released on Netflix on December 23, 2022, to critical acclaim.

Hey!! Welcome to my blog!
Here’s some stuff to know about us before following or anything!
-We are a traumagenic DID system! If you are here to fakeclaim us, please just move on. Fakeclaiming does more bad than good because most of the stuff used as “evidence” is stuff that can apply to actual system stuff!
(With that, I am also adding that we are Anti-Endo! It goes against everything known about DID/OSDD/UDD and it takes away from the fact it is a survival tactic that the brain has to resort to with trauma happening at such a young age.)
That being said, here’s some collective information about us!
Collective Name: Keziah
Collective Pronouns: They/It/Star/Cosmo
Collective Gender Identity: Transmasc Genderfluid
Collective Sexuality: AroAcespec Omnisexual
We also have a LOT of interests!!
The shows we like: Bungo Stray Dogs, Jujutsu Kaisen, Death Note, Heaven Official’s Blessing, Chainsaw Man, Attack on Titan, Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Sk8 the Infinity and My Hero Academia!
The games we like: Project Sekai, Reverse: 1999, Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, Dead by Daylight, Five Nights at Freddy’s and Minecraft!
Some musical artists we like: System of a Down, Mitski, Malice Mizer, Pierce the Veil, TV Girl, The Neighbourhood and Dadaroma!
Some videoseries we like: The Mandela Catalogue, The Walten Files and Alien Stage!
Some webtoons we like: Cherry Crush, Daybreak and Grand Ma!
Other Notes:
-We are fictive heavy! Please do not treat fictives like their source selves. Fictives are not their source!
-We often won’t tag our posts here with who is posting! If we do, it will be really rare.
-We often need tonetags cause we struggle with understanding tone in general, let alone over text!
-We are very passionate about our interests so please be respectful about them!
-We are open to questions about anything about us pretty much unless they make us uncomfortable or are asked rudely, so feel free to ask questions!
With that out of the way, thank you for reading! Bye bye!!

One of the many glitteringly clever quotes circulated in the wake of Hilary Mantel’s death last week was something she said about history. The longer version is wonderful (what did she ever say that wasn’t?), but we’ll clip this bit: “Facts are not truth, though they are part of it … And history is not the past – it is the method we have evolved of organising our ignorance of the past. It’s the record of what’s left on the record.” Yet using these fragments – “a few stones, scraps of writing, scraps of cloth” – Mantel could transport you so completely that you felt you were breathing the air of another century, feeling the emotions of other people, moving through other times.
This has an intense value. And yet, there is a certain type of historian who concerns themself – or himself, let’s face it – very little with emotion, even though that is all anyone ordinary who was forced to live through events was feeling at the time. Anger, shock, hope, bewilderment, laughter, exhaustion, betrayal – these are the trifling human offcuts of some loftier story, largely unmentionable byproducts of the grand machinations of greater men than them.
I’m glad this isn’t an affliction suffered by the documentary maker Adam Curtis, perhaps the BBC’s last great maverick, whose landmark series on Russia between 1985 and 1999 arrives on iPlayer in two weeks. Last year, Curtis was handed a treasure trove: every piece of raw footage shot by the BBC in Russia since the 1960s. Tens of thousands of hours, only the tiniest fraction of which had ever made it to air. Out of this hoard and other material lying in the BBC archive, he has created seven brilliant and deeply empathetic films that cover what happened to Russia between 1985 and 1999 (the year Vladimir Putin took power). It’s called TraumaZone: What It Felt Like to Live Through the Collapse of Communism and Democracy.
The films bring that world right up against your eyeballs, and prove themselves essential to our understanding of the Russia we have now, of the Russia from which Putin emerged, and of the staggering human cost of it all. And, perhaps, of what it feels like on the ground when ideologues with a plan decide to jolt the people towards a new utopia. Anyway, more on the UK’s week in economic shock therapy in a minute.
We already know the historical facts of the Russia story: the hideous iniquities of communism, its tumultuous collapse, the grotesque corruption and betrayal that followed, the vast scale – both ideological and geographical – of the various cataclysms. These films take us from the Kremlin to the Siberian mining villages, from the Chechen frontline to people’s apartments, immersing us in every layer of Russian society. I showed Curtis the Mantel quote this week and he loved it. “I found this extraordinary material – tens of thousands of fragments of experience,” he explained. “What I’m doing is taking these fragments and I’m trying to create a world for you to get lost in, a sense of what it was like to live through that world. At the end of it, I hope you think and feel differently about what Russians went through – and understand how Putin could emerge from that strange cataclysm.”
This I can definitely confirm. I watched the films in early summer, yet seeing last weekend’s mostly female protest against Putin’s Ukraine mobilisation in Moscow, I was immediately transported back to Curtis’s agonising footage of the mothers whose sons are conscripted into the Chechen war. The women in TraumaZone are what will stay longest with me – the struggling babushkas, the sex workers in Moscow’s Cosmos hotel, the state toothbrush factory employees, the reformatory teens, the idealistic first Avon ladies, the extraordinarily charismatic young girl who begs at car windows in the Moscow traffic … the women break your heart.
TraumaZone is a definite departure from Curtis’s previous style. There is no “Adam Curtis voiceover”, no music unless it’s part of the original footage itself, no provocative central thesis. He feels the hot-take industry has swallowed up everything since 2016 – “and I’m one of the worst offenders!” – and what the series offers instead is much more compelling and unusual. You can hear the flies buzzing on the steppes. You are in the middle of riots brutally suppressed by state police. You are watching as gangsters loot cars straight off the production lines. You are in the queue to be told there are still no potatoes in all of Moscow. It’s difficult not to conclude that the hardline free marketeers had about as much empathy for the ordinary people as the Marxist intellectuals.
Which I accept might be starting to sound familiar closer to home. Don’t worry, this isn’t some glib bollocks about how we’re all the same underneath. Russians are not similar to us, because they have been through a totally different experience. In the 90s, they had the accelerated and frequently catastrophic collapse of not one but two of the dominant ideologies of the 20th century. We had Britpop.
Not that that stops some pointed jokes. A Russian journalist who recently fled Putin’s regime reflected sardonically to Curtis: “You in Britain are Moscow in about 1988. Everyone knows the system isn’t working. Everyone knows that the managers are completely looting it. They know that you know that they know, but no one has any concept of a possible alternative. The only difference is you’ve already tried democracy. You’ve got nothing else left.”
Ouch. It has certainly felt like a rather idiosyncratic form of democracy this week, watching a government without a mandate pursue radical economic shock policies on the basis of pure dogma, no matter the forecast human fallout. Over the course of TraumaZone we get to know Yegor Gaidar, the ultra-free marketeer architect of the shock therapy designed to radically remake Russia’s economy, who became despised by the Russians who bore the brunt of his malfunctioning ideals even as the oligarchs used them as cover to steal an entire country. There is an arresting closeup of Gaidar’s face at the funeral of Galina Starovoitova, the democratic reformer assassinated in her apartment building in 1998. What is his expression? Is it a flicker of an epic personal reckoning?
I kept wondering if I saw a flash of it on Kwasi Kwarteng’s face this week, when the cameras followed the chancellor on some no-comment walk out of the Treasury as the financial crisis he caused was playing out in real time. Or whether we’ll see it when Kwarteng or Liz Truss is forced to encounter an ordinary victim who experiences their ideology as a repossessed house or hungry child, rather than something that sounds good in a pamphlet.
But perhaps these are the fleeting emotions we wish ideologues to feel, and not the ones they do. The one thing we can say with a general election possibly more than two years away is that no one but a tiny selectorate of 81,000 voted for this radical experiment. Is that democracy? Is that what keeps people believing in politics? Or are we entering a trauma zone of our own?

A-T-4 075 Newcleus Dynamic Breakers
Newcleus were to come out of Jam-On Productions Crew who put on parties. Jam On Revenge was the name of their debut single and also their debut album that followed in 1984
Jam On Revenge the single was a massive hit but its follow up Jam On It takes it to the next phase and is a bonafide hip-hop classic. The Instrumental is a thing of beauty. It's something I heard older teenagers play when I was a kid, it wasn't until I was a little older I found out what it is
Newcleus - Jam On It (Instrumental)
Then lo and behold they do it again. The Instrumental of Automan is hard! It wasn't until I was in my early twenties and I was listening to electronica that I heard this Instrumental. I remember hearing Mantronix's Bassline when I was a kid which didn't come out until 1986 (a landmark record in the history of heavy electronic bass lines), Automan gives me the same light headed feeling
Newcleus - Automan (Instrumental)
Contrary to what you might have read Dynamic Breakers aren't Newcleus under a different name. Dynamic Breakers were a breakdance troop from Queens and a spin-off from the larger Dynamic Rockers crew. It was produced mixed and engineered by the same team as the above tracks including Cosmo D of Newcleus. In fact Dynamic was intended to be a duet between Newcleus and the Dynamic Breakers until a legal dispute led to this falling apart and the record going out with Cosmo D's involvement going uncredited
Dynamic Breakers - Dynamic (Total Control-Dub Version) with it's Nautilus inspired bass line
Nucleus release a few more singles in 1984 which all have versions on the Jam On Revenge album. Computer Age (Push The Button) I've posted here, the last single was Destination Earth (1999) which is a lovely mellow electro instrumental just not as sparse and edgy as the tracks above
No More Runnin' is a more disco track off the Jam On Revenge album with a nice vocal from the girls and a bass guitar (playing a baseline that sounds similar to Jam On Revenge... Jam On Jam-On!)
Newcleus - No More Runnin'

┌───── .˳·˖✶𓆩𓁺𓆪✶˖·˳. ─────┐
Hi, I am THE Fragile Cosmos. My real name is Evren. I am currently 16 years old and use any pronouns (usually They/He).
I am located in Argentina. I could definitely communicate in Spanish, but I write in English to make it less personal, and therefore less uncomfortable.
This is the most authentic social media account I have. It's basically a virtual diary where I write when something meaningful happenes in my uninteresting life. Expect an entry every night between 11PM and 12AM. And occasional crazy updates outside that time.
I'm basically Franz Kafka but instead of a 40-year-old man in the 1910s, you have a 16-year-old queer loser with a blog on Tumblr in the 2020s. He's literally me tho.
Contrary to unpopular belief, I am fully aware of the fact that nobody cares about my stupid, boring life. But I still make this public because I don't want to manually accept people (I'm just that lazy.)
Well, except for one person. Hi, dude!
He's the only reason I write daily because he's very interested in my life for some reason.
Thank you for being here anyway. I feel less alone on the Internet with this.

Yeah, my username is a lyric from a Mazzy Star song. Specifically "Sparrow", from the album "Seasons of Your Day" (2013). I'm a huge fan of Hope Sandoval.
Things I enjoy, because why not:
♱ Noodles and rice - I love carbs.
♱ Horror and all things weird and scary - even though I'm a fucking chicken.
♱ The Arts - I draw and read sometimes. I love movies and listen to music every day.
♱ Tomatoes - I'm a sucker for that shit.
♱ Ugly things and people - I don't know why.
♱ The 2000s, the 90s and before - I know I'll never experience those times ever, but at least I can see them through a screen in the 2020s.
♱ Sleeping - but I always have dark circles under my eyes. They're kind of a vibe tho
+ many more things, but there are some of them.
