Last year, a report from the European Committee of Social Rights of the Council of Europe concluded that Portugal continues to violate the right to decent housing for the Roma community residing in the country… According to the the country's High Commission for Migration, there were 37,000 Portuguese Roma in 2017, but the number is disputed by other sources and some estimate it to be at least three times higher.

*   Déjà vu
*   Dear MP, you’ve got a trap SMS
*   A little child just died from dehydration in 21st century Europe

The European Parliament conducted open hearings over the ‘Greek Watergate,’ while in Greece governmental cover-up efforts intensified to the point they became blatant.
New wiretapping revealed: SYRIZA lawmaker is the new victim of Predator. Coincidentally (not), he was involved in revealing EYP's wrong-doings.
A 4-year-old refugee child died from dehydration due to a delayed Malta-Greece SAR operation.
By reading the newsletter - and even better by subscribing or becoming a supporting member - you will also find a lot of links to other sources and to events and developments that you will not otherwise come across. And even if some of them are in Greek only, by using a Translator in your browser, it will be easy to read no matter how familiar you are with the Greek language.
It cannot be recommended strongly enough to read and share this week’s updates on the events and developments in Greece here:

Europe's top human rights body urges Britain to abandon its controversial plan to deport asylum seekers to Rwanda, citing concerns over their rights and the erosion of judicial independence. Europe's highest rights body on Tuesday called on Britain to scrap a controversial plan to deport asylum seekers to Rwanda, saying it raised "major issues" over their rights and the rule of law. Britain's parliament on Monday passed a bill under which asylum seekers would be deported to Rwanda to await a decision on their applications, in a bid by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to stop people making the dangerous sea crossing to the UK across the Channel. "The United Kingdom government should refrain from removing people under the Rwanda policy and reverse the bill's effective infringement of judicial independence," said the Council of Europe's (CoE) Commissioner for Human Rights, Michael O'Flaherty. O'Flaherty said the legislation "raises major issues about the human rights of asylum seekers and the rule of law more generally". -Britain is one of 46 members of the Council of Europe and a signatory to the European Convention on Human Rights.

Serbia’s former counter-intelligence chief urged to develop relations with non-EU countries
By promoting unrecognised Kosovo to the Council of Europe, the European Union proved that it does not care about Serbia, so Belgrade should prioritise the development of relations with its partners outside the association. This opinion was expressed on Thursday by the former head of the Serbian counter-intelligence service, Nacionalist reports.
Commenting on the decision of the Political Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) to approve the accession of self-proclaimed Kosovo to the Council of Europe, Aleksandar Vulin, former Serbian Interior Minister and founder of the Socialist Movement, said:
By admitting so-called Kosovo to the Council of Europe (CoE), the European Union above all demonstrated its attitude towards Serbia. Serbia is little Russia and big nuisance, and nothing we do will change that. The European Union has once again proven to us that it does not care about Serbia, so the time has come for us to show to the European Union that we care more about our friends outside the European Union than our enemies in the European Union.

PACE Committee on Equality and Non-Discrimination on combating racism and intolerance made the following statement
Tumblr media
“The International day for the elimination of racial discrimination is an opportunity to reflect on the progress achieved in countering racism at global level, and on how to tackle the challenges that people of African descent still face. This year, as the International Decade for People of African Descent 2015-2024, proclaimed by the General Assembly of the United Nations, draws to a close, the picture is far from satisfying.
In 2020, the violent death of George Floyd at the hand of the police and the widespread protests that followed on both sides of the Atlantic sparked awareness of the extent of Afrophobia and the need to tackle it. A window of opportunity seemed to be open for legislators, policy makers and the society at large to seize. The developments since then are not always positive. Deeply entrenched racism endures. New forms of prejudice targeting people of African descent emerge. The current political landscape is a reason for concern, with racist and xenophobic populist movements resisting progress and undermining the struggle for inclusiveness and respect.
As members of the Committee on equality and non-discrimination, we reaffirm on this occasion our commitment to counter all forms of racism. Referring to Resolution 2389 (2021) on Combating Afrophobia, or anti-Black racism, in Europe, we reiterate our call on fellow politicians and public authorities to counter racism in all its forms, including at institutional level, and multiple and intersectional discrimination; recognise the contribution of people of African descent to Europe’s development and culture; and to recognise the negative impact of colonialism, enslavement and the transatlantic slave trade.
Finally, we reiterate our support to the No Hate Parliamentary Alliance. We believe in the Charter of European political parties for a non-racist and inclusive society, based on political parties self-regulation power, as an important tool to prevent and counter racial discrimination.”
