Saw this and immediately thought of your wholesome Superman rework. 🏳️‍⚧️
aaah I'm put in an awkward place when folks send other people's fanart and I...don't like it 😅 like traditionally it's fandom etiquette to just scroll away when you see fanon/fanart you don't like, but when I'm put on the spot like this and have my work directly compared to it...welp.
While it's nice to see more recognition to possible queer readings of marginalized supers, I'm wary of how mainstream queerness has been used to pinkwash adaptations of the more racialized aspects of the character in question. Superman is an allegorical analog for a white-passing Jewish immigrant, but in MAWS those themes are universalized to being just "different". There's a whole episode where Clark's marginalization is likened to that of a gay couple, and how he's forced out of the closet because having boundaries and privacy hurts his friends' feelings. Never once in the show is he likened to immigrants or people of color who experience xenophobia.
I haven't watched X-Men '97, but I do find it troubling that Sunspot- whose very origin involves him experiencing anti-Black violence- has his marginalization likened to just queer struggles. A non-Black actor has yet again been casted to portray him. Just another example of how Sunspot in particular has been gradually getting whitewashed in new takes. It's just with queerness now too.
I think this is why it kind of gets to me when people read my "wholesome" Superman-comic-about-losing-parts-of-yourself-to-xenophobia as a trans allegory. It's like whitewashing via pink kryptonite.

I've been sitting on my thoughts for a while when it comes to Volo's gender and the common headcanon to see him as nonbinary, and I don't think anyone needs to justify themselves w that because I think his motivation in seeing the world as a cruel place is elevated by a queer narrative, but what I'll say is that I kind of think gamefreak were onto something when they made all three villains whose motivation is some flavour of "the world is flawed and so I will cleanse it and reshape it to fit my ideals" as, y'know, men.
(I kind of think all the pokemon villains' motivations are very gendered with Lusamine's obvious controlling maternalism and Ghetsis and Rose's own takes on aggressive and coercive paternalism, and the only exceptions to this are Maxie and Archie whose passions are terraforming and the Professors whose passions are time travelling)

tex red vs blue is insanely transgender but im the only one who sees it that way because im crazy in the head.
what if there was a past version of yourself. a woman, a wife, a mother, with long hair and a sweet smile. and she died long ago. and you are her. but you are not her. you're nothing like her, but the people who knew her desperately want you to be her, want to preserve the memory they have in their minds of the woman they loved through you. but you never asked to be her, never asked to carry the burden of someone else's expectation of who or what you should be. you have a new name. you prefer to go by this one. people remark on how weird it is that it's a guy's name. sometimes the people who loved [the past version of] you call you by your old name. they are not referring to you when they say it. you live in the shadows of someone who's long gone, and you're something different now, but you don't feel like you're ever allowed to define yourself on your own terms, to be your own person, to control your own life, because you exist solely through the memories people had of you. and the longer she has been gone for, the more desperately people try to get her back, the less you resemble her and the less you know who you are, or if you ever even got to be anything at all. what i mean is that transition could have saved him

Fat bodies are not inherently sexual, guys. Neither is turning thin bodies in media into fat ones. We almost never get people who look like us unless they are reduced down to their fatness in some way and it sucks balls actually.
Sometimes there is fat NSFW/fetish and wanting to sexualize those bodies the same way we sexualize other body types, but it should be treated the exact same as thin NSFW. That is, it isn't wrong to sexualize fat body types in and of itself because fat bodies are sexy and hot the same way thinner or more muscular ones are.
I mean truly. When's the last time you got on someone's case for drawing a character more muscular or lean than what they're normally depicted as? Or even fetishizing that aspect of a character?
The truth is that you cannot advocate for body positivity and/or neutrality but not allow fat bodies to be seen as just as sexy and attractive as thin or muscular ones. You don't personally have to be into it, and no one's asking you to. But you do have to stop making assumptions and moral judgements about it.
Fat people should not only exist in media, but we should be given the same rights in fandom to freely express and represent ourselves with the same level of depth and passion given to others, whether it be sexual or not.

Wait wait wait, I saw in your tags that's Time and Time Again is ending soon? But I've only just found it! (through the animation you did, it and your comic are so well done)
Ah, yeah.
So by "soon" I really mean "sooner than I think I would like" and it feels much sooner to me as the writer than I think it will to you all as the readers.
But, Time and Time Again is pretty much exactly 2/3 of the way through right now. Webtoon gave me the end date before I even finished my first season, and I've been trying to fit in all the things I wanted to get into the story before it ends...
It's why my hiatus has been taking so long, I'm trying to write to get as many moments and as much development as I possibly can, with really limited time! And... also admittedly to prolong how much longer it's sort of "around" in my life.
Because I know once it is over, I'll move on to the next comic! and 3 years just doesn't feel long enough to have Adam and Steve in my life haha
But, yeah. it's getting "close" in a way that it's starting to make me sad. like this time next year it'll probably be over.
It's okay of course, it's the nature of stories that they will end. I'm working really hard to make it satisfying despite Everything, and I'm really proud of everything I've done so far.
And my next comic will be even better for what I've learned here!
So, sorry to everyone, but I promise I'm gonna make it worth it.

if you ship characters together, you're probably used to shipping characters who aren't "canon confirmed" to be together. you probably have gay ships. ask yourself why the stretch of your imagination doesn't include trans characters
because clearly the realm outside "canon confirmed" is possible for you. ask yourself why you're able to see beyond straight as default but not cis as default

Introducing "Lightning", my first novel - hitting shelves (hopefully) by early 2026!

Lightning is part 1 of a 4-novel series titled "Human Conditions."
If you're looking for a series with queer representation, South Asian/Indian main characters, nuance and a lot of dialogue on various topics - this is for you.

The PPG [Pretty Pink Girlies]
Tumblr media
Ooo mini redesigns of some adorable OCs I got recently!!! The lovely pink girlfriend trio <3 I call Carnage a variant but she's really from my own uh Swap&Fell AU; Swap&Fell Pink aka SwapFellTale. (Swap&Fell because it's not quite a Swap!Fell or Fell!Swap, it's more of a mix of Swap and Fell.) Her AU is also fairytale themed, fun fact!!
The 3 of them all work at Ccino's Cafe; the 'main' / OG Ccinos, since Milly doesn't have her own place. They live together in the OT! These are specifically the ShipKids verse versions of these OCs! Since some of them, mainly Carnage, exist in other verses too; having their own other paths ~!! (And yessssss, this means I may be giving them their own children at some point >:3 )
The 'AKAs' are their multiverse names, each usually going by their 'Or' sections. Milly & Rhell don't really have anyone to call them other names but Carnage's brother, Rosewood, does call her Neue.
I want to say 10 million more things about them but I also don't know what else to say.... I just know I love them <3 Maybe whenever I digitise them I'll say more ^^
Original designs are by @lovestuckstarz !!!!

its interesting to me that the common sentiment appears to be that han sooyoung intended for jang hayoung to be trans. I think there's room for multiple interpretations, but I view being trans in orv as being inherently tied to the themes of self-actualization, as well as the idea that a narrative is unable to be fully defined by either author or reader. put more simply, jang hayoung is trans regardless of either kim dokja OR han sooyoung's intentions in creating her, or in how they each interpreted her. maybe the version of her in the novel was meant to be something else, but in the reality of this world, she is a trans girl. han sooyoung's intentions kind of don't matter there because the text has moved beyond its author
