Islands have always hosted some of the weirdest ecosystems: giants and dwarfs, flightless birds and relicts of almost gone lineages.
The European islands of the Epigene are no different and host ecosystems much more different than the mainland.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The biggest European archipelago, the British isles, have quite similar ecosystems to each other, being so close and so similar in climate.
Both have ungulates as their biggest animals, with Reeve’s muntjac’s descendants in Ireland, one of the last places where cervids still thrive, that became as heavy as cows (the Hibernian cow-elk Hibernelaphus canobarbus), and ox-like boars in Great Britain (like the London Ox-hog or Bosus londinii).
These islands also share other herbivores, such as big fully flightless pheasants (like the Piasunstruth or Pterolophus chlorus), big walking wallaby descendants (like the Ebdanian maned kangaroo or Hibernopus cervinus) and semiaquatic fur less boars (like Wallace loch-hog or Hyopotamus wallacei) that graze on the smaller island like the Isle of Man during the summer.
One of the biggest predators of toady’s isles are red foxes that survived as medium-sized mesocarnivores, like the Irish giant fox (Ebdanocyon murphyi), but the apex predator is the Devil stork (Diablociconia higginsi), that peck their prey in vital parts to bleed them out and grabs small prey from afar.
Tumblr media
In the Mediterranean Crete is quite different from the mainland too. The main herbivore on the island are the Cretan Dodos (Pseudodo ariadnae), flightless pigeons with a skull resembling that of the extinct dodo, hunted by the short-haired Minokatis (Minofelis cretensis), bobcat sized descendants of the endemic wildcats.
Tumblr media
The most different of all from the mainland, tho, is definitely Malta, already without any big wild mammal it was almost instantly colonised by birds, who now rule the island. The two biggest species are the almost flightless Valletta’s Cinju (Cygnarius guelii) and the flightless Ghotifalkun (Flacoraptor gabrielis), descended from swans and kestrels.

Tumblr media
Monster Stories Gundham/Korekiyo x G/N! Reader
Gundham Tanaka
Song Recommendation:
Teeth - 5 Seconds Of Summer
This has some suggestive content. Mostly making out but still.
It had been a super exhausting day. You had tests in almost every class, and you had to deal with Hiyoko throwing a temper tantrum, luckily Mahiru was there to calm her down.
Walking into your dorm room, you kicked off your shoes, grabbed your book, and plopped down on your bed.
After about 20 minutes, you heard a knock at the door.
"Come in!" you called out, not taking your eyes off the pages of the book.
The door opened and your boyfriend, Gundham walked in, his scarf and coat swaying behind him.
"What are you reading, my dark monarch?" he asked, sitting on your bed.
"Dracula, by Bram Stroker," you said, leaning into him. "You've probably heard of it."
"Indeed, I have," he said proudly, reading the words on the page. "How did you aquire this book of dark energy?"
"I wouldn't call it dark energy," you chuckled. "Shuichi let me borrow it."
"I didn't know that he had the same kind of 'dark power' as you and I."
"Shuchi's full of surprises, I guess," you said, distracted by the scene in the book. "Jonathan just met the brides,"
"Perhaps my favorite part in the whole book,"
You closed the book, smirking. "Why's that Gundham?"
Gundham blushed, pulling his scarf over his face. "Be-Because my dear, it shows the demon and seductive energy that Dracula's brides have," Gundham said, making you giggle.
"Excuses, excuses," you said, leaning in to kiss him.
Gundham didn't waste anytime kissing you back. Your lips molded perfectly together, his lips rough, but in a comforting way.
His tongue swiped over her your bottom lip, asking for entrance. Giggling, you parted your mouth, and he immediately invaded it with your tongue, exploring every inch. Your tongues intertwining together, you moved your hands to the back of his neck, forcing him closer to you. Gundham moved his hands to your hips, pressing your chest against him.
After a few minutes of making out, you both pulled away from each other, both breathing heavily, a string of saliva connecting the two of you.
"Maybe next time I should ask you about your favorite scene in Doctor Sleep," you joked, panting.
"The scene where Rose The Hat and Snakebite Andy make love, my monarch," he growled, nipping at your neck.
"Fair enough," you breathed out, pulling him into another passionate kiss.

Korekiyo Shinguji
Song Recommendation:
All Of Me - John Legend
Being The Ultimate Mythologist, you absolutely loved studying myths in your free time. But by far your favorite mythology to study was monster mythology.
You were in the Hope's Peak Academy library, reading books about The Loch Ness Monster, The Minotaur, and other ancient monsters.
As you were reading, you heard footsteps behind you, but assumed it was the librarian. So, you were pretty surprised when someone sat in the chair next to you. You jumped up so suddenly that you almost knocked down one of the books.
"Sorry love," your boyfriend chuckled. "I didn't mean to scare you."
"It's fine Kiyo," you said, catching your breath. "I just didn't expect you to be here, that's all."
"What are you reading, dear?" he asked, looking over at the pages.
"Just some monster mythology stuff,"
"What creature are you reading about this time?" he grabbed onto your hand.
"The Minotaur, right now," you said, squeezing his hand.
"Ah, The Cretan Bull," Korekiyo said. "Very interesting, my dear."
"Mhmmm,"
The two of you sat there for the next few moments in silence, reading and enjoying each other's company.
After about ten minutes, you closed the book.
"Finished reading already?" he hummed.
"No, but we should leave," you said, getting up. "I have homework to do, and my textbook's in my dorm."
"Would you like me to accompany you?" Korekiyo asked, also getting up.
"I would like nothing better," you smiled, kissing his cheek.

Thinking today about The Summer Palace and why Pacat chose the name ‘Lentos’ for its environs...
Tumblr media
There’s something about a place of harmony and beauty, a sanctuary of flowers and shade in a place “wild” and “inhospitable”, that I am sure is meant to align with Damen and Laurent’s relationship. The harsh, tumultuous world of the conflict of Akielos and Vere surrounded them, and yet they carved out their own space with each other, of a true love, where they are in harmonious accord.
I was pondering why Lentos today, as we know that Pacat did enormous amounts of research and clearly thought carefully about names.
Lentos seems to encompass different layers of meaning. Perhaps from the Italian word ‘lento’ to mean slow (mirroring that chance to finally slow down and enjoy each other, and the gentle healing of the story).
Or more likely, perhaps, it is a riff on the real Cretan village of Lentas, whose name is possibly derived from the Phoenician word ‘lavi’ to mean lion, or the Greek word ‘leontas’ (Λέοντας) to also mean ‘leo’ or ‘lion’. This resonates with Damen whose symbol that is and the idea of courage- courage to confront the past and to heal.
Or perhaps, as is asserted here, it from the Phoenician word for ‘white’, a symbolic colour in the story, of purity and of the washing away of ‘sins’ and the past.
Incidentally, Lentas was also famous for a temple of Asclepius, the god of medicine, and had “magnificently equipped hot springs” with “healing waters”, another alignment with the healing through water that occurs in the story (which I wrote more about here), which again is key to the story.
I just love how these meanings combine and come together and how Pacat always has such enormous respect for us as readers, in doing her research and weaving together a narrative that wears its erudition so lightly. All of it works to show why Lentos was chosen as a name and how it becomes this locus for a meaningful healing between Damen and Laurent.

Tumblr media
It's been a few hours since my encounter with Jacaerys and I'll admit, I've missed those corny jokes. He's annoying at the moment, but I seek his company now. I walk to my brother, Cregan, who prepares dinner for me and my siblings.
"Hey Creg," I start sweetly, seeing him look at me and smirk slightly. He knows I'm about to ask for something, he always knows. I move up next to him and look at the meal he's preparing. "Looks good!" "Stop tryna' sweet talk me, what's up?" Cregan says, cocking a brow at me. I feel anxious, knowing he might say no.
"You know Jacaerys Velaryon…" I start, seeing his expression contort into something I can't place. He nods in response, increasing my anxiety. "Could I have his number?"
He pauses for a moment, considering, then sighs heavily. "Why? You don't like him, do you?" He takes the food off the stove, leaning his side against the counter and crossing his arms. "You've gotta be careful about guys like that. I know him better than anyone. He has girls flocking to him by the second. He'll play you like a pawn in some filthy game. I don't want that for you." He grabs his phone despite his words, letting me consider as he finds Jace's contact. Cregan and Jace are close friends from being on the hockey team together, so I trust his judgment. Being co-captains develops a bond that might let you discover some darker sides of each other.
"Trust me, I have no interest in him. It has to do with tutoring," I lied through my teeth, smiling uncomfortably. Now, it was a half-truth! I don't have an interest, but I also want to get closer. It has nothing to do with tutoring him since he won't give me the chance to teach him a damn thing. Cretan examines my expression before handing me his phone with Jace's contact open. I can't help but smile at the contact photo.
It was when Jace let his hair grow out, his curled hair down his shoulders. He posed all pretty with his leg up and batting his eyes with his jersey on. I quickly enter the contact and hand Cregan back his phone, moving over and giving him a gentle kiss on the cheek. "Thanks, Creg. It means a lot. You're the best!" I affirm, patting his shoulder as he rolls his eyes and chuckles. I scramble off, entering my bedroom and texting Jace.
(Y/N): hey it's (Y/N)! I was wondering if you were still up for a hangout? :)
I was shocked by the response time. My phone vibrates in a matter of minutes.
Jacaerys 😐: Yeah. I have a party I was invited to. Sound good?
(Y/N): who's gonna be there?
Jacaerys 😐: Idfk it's a high school party, do you really expect me to know everyone who's showing up?
Well damn, okay asshole.
(Y/N): yes, I do. I expect a list of first names, last names, parents' phone numbers, and their ages before you pick me up 🤨
Jacaerys 😐: Are you going or not.
(Y/N): what time?
I try to figure out when we'll be heading out, mostly because I want to look presentable. Maybe I'll find someone at the party who is interested in me, who knows? He told me he could pick me up in an hour or so. The sun has already set, so I can only assume we'll be out for a while. I text him the okay and get myself ready for a night that changed my whole perspective on Jacaerys Velaryon.
Tumblr media
He pulls up across the street in my neighbor's parking lot, not wanting to seem obvious. I'd never snuck out before, nor planned to. Surely my brother wouldn't mind, he parties all the time! But maybe he'd be hesitant to let me spend time with his best friend. He almost didn't give me his number. I could only imagine how he'd react if I told him I was actively seeking to hang out with him.
Without a second thought, I slip out of my window, closing it and glancing at Cregan's window. The light is off, I can only assume he called it a night early. I rush across the street, trying to keep my head ducked in case he looks out his window and sees me. I quickly open the car door, slip into the passenger side, and slam the door. Jace looks at me in surprise for a moment before bursting into laughter at my anxiety.
"Jeez, you're terrible at this!" He playfully nudged me, causing me to roll my eyes as he pulled out of the driveway and headed toward the party. I check my phone, my leg bouncing as I fumble loosely with my shirt. I feel his eyes glancing at me, worsening my frustrations. "You look beautiful," he suddenly says. I look at him, my brows furrowed. Looking ahead, he has a cheeky grin on his face. "I mean, seriously. You'll have guys all over you."
"Speaking from what you wanna do?" I suddenly say, trying to distract myself from my overwhelming fear that Cregan will message me at any moment. I notice his hesitance to answer and the growing color on his cheeks that I can barely see in the limited light. "Maybe? So what?" He replied, making me laugh. I didn't take him seriously. I know he wouldn't want that. Would he? I sigh heavily and comfortable silence falls over us. Jace turns on a song to fill the quiet space.
We park on the side of the street, music muffled from behind closed windows and doors. It's a Lannister party. I look up at the looming building. I swear it's four floors high. Jace gently takes my hand and walks me inside, obviously impatient and ready to have fun. A few people cheer as Jace walks in. He laughs and greets them, letting go of my hand and leaving me alone. I can't help but feel disappointed watching him talk to different girls and his friends. I sigh and head to the drink table, downing two shots.
"Woah there, Tiger, watch yourself," a voice calls out, revealing Aegon Targaryen. I hadn't interacted with him since middle school when he was head over heels for me. He'd cheated on me, but I hadn't held a grudge. It was middle school. We were all imbeciles unaware of romance. He seems to be getting there, his words only slightly slurred as he smiles flirtatiously at me. I return the smile, except it's awkward. He doesn't seem to notice, offering me a drink which I take. "Aegon! How've you been?" I ask, trying to make a polite conversation. He sighs heavily, brows raised, then chugging his drink with a small laugh. That told me everything, and I felt pity for him. His home life has always been challenging, so I give him the benefit of the doubt in most situations.
I feel myself growing tipsy as Aegon continues idle chitchat. Mostly conversed about life and relationships, and even asked me if I'm interested in smoking some weed with him. I politely decline, scanning the crowd for Jace. The more I drink, the more I feel myself becoming scatterbrained and drunk, and the faces of those around me look all the same. The blaring music triggers a headache and I continue to drink.
Then, before I know it, Aegon has his hand in mine and says words I can't understand. I giggle at him, assuming he said something playful. Then, his hands are on my waist and pulling me close. I grow uncomfortable as he grinds his hips to mine. I push him away a little, but he grows aggressive and starts gripping me tighter. He whispers words that will stick with me forever.
"You love me, admit it. There's nothing I want more than you. You're mine tonight."
I feel sick, tears coming to my eyes. I plead with him to stop, but my words are slurred and incoherent. No one around us pays attention as he pulls me toward the bedroom.
Everything happens so fast. One moment I was wrestling with Aegon, crying and trying to beg him to let me go, the next he was on the floor and Jace was in front of me with his hands clenched into his fists.
I watch Aemond emerge from the crowd, looking at his brother's bloodied nose and bruising face on the floor. It blurs together. I watch as they crash to the floor, glass shattering. I see blood, a broken bottle in Jace's hand, and then Aemond bruised and bloodied on the floor. Jace looks at me, his gaze softening as he grabs my hand and pulls me out. He makes sure I have everything. I look at his face, his nose bleeding and cuts on his arms and hands. I feel my sickness surface, pulling me from Jace and vomiting in the front yard. I hear him say something, but I can't hear him over my vomiting. He pulls my hair back, waits until I finish, and then helps me to his car.
I have thrown up on my shirt. I can smell it. Jace gets in the front seat as I lay in the back, whining and curling up. He watches me through the rearview mirror.
We drive for only a bit before he stops his car. I look out the window, seeing we're at a nearby gas station. He turns around, looking at me then unzipping his backpack that's rested on the floorboard of the back seat.
"Jace..?" I whine, and he softly shushes me. I look at his bloodied hands, my eyebrows furrowed.
"You're okay, you're safe. I'm here," he whispers, pulling out his hockey jersey. He hands it to me. "Can you change into this for me?" I stare at him, shaken up and still scared from the party ordeal. "I won't look." He turns away, covering his eyes. Hesitantly, I strip off my shirt and throw his jersey over my torso. I softly murmur his name, and he looks back at me, smiling lovingly at me. The blood on his face has dried up, and I feel guilty. I feel responsible.
"Jace I'm sorry," I slur out, the brunette reaching for my hand and holding it tightly.
"You have no reason to apologize. Let's go back to your house and clean you up. Okay?" He whispers, making my heart clench as tears fall down my cheeks. "I won't let anything happen to you, ever. You're safe."

The Unsettled Plain defies the conventional framings of the region’s [”Middle East”] history. The protagonists of this book are the people often left out or relegated to a minor role: pastoralists, peasants, workers, and migrants who lived in Ottoman countryside. Many books adopt national or imperial geographies, but I have used a space that destabilizes such geographies. Call it Cilicia, Çukurova, or the Adana region -- the book is about a coherent, interconnected place that is hidden on the map today.
---
During the nineteenth century, this corner of the Mediterranean at the border of Syria and Turkey contained diversity that would surprise Anglophone readers accustomed to images of the Middle East painted with a broad brush. [...] Speakers of Turkish, Arabic, Armenian, Kurdish, and Greek lived side by side there for centuries, not just in cosmopolitan cities but also in the vast hinterland. With large-scale migration during the latter half of the nineteenth century, Tatar, Circassian, and Chechen refugees from the Russian Empire, as well as Cretan Muslims and various people from the Balkans built new settlements in the region [...]. An extraordinary array of communities that made up the population of the late Ottoman Empire shared this one small place.
Among rural inhabitants, there were many ways of life, ranging from long-distance, nomadic patterns of grazing sheep and goats to intensive, plantation-style cultivation of cotton for global export. And in a space only a little bigger than modern-day Lebanon, there was also intense environmental contrast. Foreigners used to remark that one could set out on foot from a lowland city like Adana, which might have felt just as hot as Egypt on a summer day, and in two or three days be in mountain spaces reminiscent of the Swiss Alps. That is in fact precisely how the local people lived, migrating between the highland and lowland micro-climates on a seasonal basis and spending the summer in those precious mountain spaces. So in all these ways, the world of The Unsettled Plain is more complex than what we get in Ottoman histories written from the vantage point of Istanbul or Cairo, or for that matter the histories of the modern Middle East written inside of nation-state containers. [...]
---
The central issue that runs throughout the book is malaria [...]. Malaria is associated with the tropics today, but it used to be very widespread not only in the former Ottoman Empire but also Europe and North America. I use malaria to show how the transformation of the Ottoman Empire from the Tanzimat reforms of the mid-nineteenth century onward impacted rural people. Settlement policies and the commercialization of agriculture disrupted malaria avoidance strategies that were rooted in an intimate understanding of the local environment, resulting in catastrophic malaria epidemics for resettled or displaced people and the gradual intertwining of malaria with agricultural labor and increasingly uneven relations between landowners and workers. Far from being unique to the Ottoman experience, this story harkens to the experiences of many spaces throughout nineteenth-century empires.
---
Each chapter of the book circles back to the question of malaria through different interlocking themes, and those themes are [...] ecology, the state, capitalism, war, and science. Chapter 1 is focused on aspects of Cilicia’s local ecology and politics before the Tanzimat period, and Chapter 2 studies the impacts of state reform and settlement policy during the high Tanzimat period of the mid-nineteenth century. Chapter 3 studies how a new form of capitalism centered on cotton export shaped this region during the last decades of the Ottoman period, and Chapter 4 studies how much of that new world was destroyed during the World War I period and the subsequent Franco-Turkish war. Chapter 5 traces continuities between the late Ottoman period and early Republican period in Turkey, focusing on the themes of science and technology and examining the role of medicine and public health in the remaking of the countryside. [...]
---
Between modern-day residents of Çukurova, those who have settled in Istanbul, Ankara, or other cities in Turkey, and those who have emigrated abroad to Germany or elsewhere, a sizeable percentage of people from modern Turkey either claim this region as home or have some personal connection to it. There is also a substantial portion of the Armenian diaspora in the United States, France, Lebanon, Armenia, and elsewhere who think of Cilicia as their ancestral homeland.

A somewhat comprehensive guide on my favourite greek islands:
written by me, a Peloponnesian girl who fucking loves islands and has a lot of opinions <3
1. Skopelos (Σκόπελος)
• mama mia island
• by visiting skopelos, you too can be the dancing queen
• the island where the best first mama mia movie was filmed
• i wanna go there so bad <33
2. Lesbos (Λέσβος)
• gay sex
• need i say more
• technically, evey woman living in Lesbos is a lesbian
3. Mykonos (Μύκονος)
• gay sex (mlm edition)
• tourist hell (derogatory)
• μυκονoοοοός 💅💅✨
4. Crete (Κρήτη)
• minoan crete was literally the first developed civilization to ever exist in Europe and also. unbelievably cool.
• one of my favourite phases of greek history actually
• old men with impressive mustaches WILL hunt you down and force you to drink raki. It's better if you don't fight it. 📿
• everyone has a funny accent here. Also everyone's last name ends in -aki
• my mother's last name ends in -aki. Apparently i am some part cretan and I didn't even know untill recently.
• godd i love crete so much
5. Santorini (Σαντορίνη)
• also known as Thera (Θήρα) which also means door in posh greek???
• Minoan civilization swag
• actually an inactive volcano? That's what killed the Minoans (it wasn't always inactive)
• the sudden destruction of the settlements of Santorini is probably what inspired the Atlantis myths
• fast forward four thousand years into the future: this island is now tourist hell volume 2 (electric bungalow)
• Mykonos and Santorini. What a duo.
• went there once when i was four. I don't really remember much.
• if you want to build a house in Santorini the government will force you to paint it blue and white. Gotta keep up with the theme.
• 🧿🧿
6. Ithaki (Ιθάκη)

• im literally so happy you guys have no idea
• 🎶 στην Πάρο και στην Νάξοοο, τον αέρα σου να αλλάξω 🎶💃
• I didn't really have an opinion on paros as an island before i booked tickets to go there but apparently it's the island that most mainland greeks prefer for summer vacation
• kyklades swag 💖💖🧿
And last, most controversial one but definitely not least:
8. Cyprus ( Κύπρος )
• you know em. You love em.
• Greece and Cyprus on Eurovision. A better love story than twilight.
• everyone fucking hates us for giving twelve points to each other every year but like. What did yall expect.
• you haven't truly laughed if you haven't watched a greek cypriot comedy.
• cypriot pitas. Where would i be without you.
• cretan greeks Cypriot greeks
having a funny accent
• not going to analyse the history of Cyprus too much because i would rather not get political but. Leukosia is the world's last divided capital and that probably won't change for a while.
• "trying to solve the cypriot problem" is an expression we use over here to describe someone trying really hard to solve what is basically an unsolvable situation so. Yeah.
• this is not an island I want to visit for tourist-y reasons. It's a bit more personal than that.

What sort of very very tiny colourful flowers and arangement can my character use for their garden. There is a pond as well so aquatic plants will work as well, and part of the garden is a steep slope.
This depends somewhat on how much shade or sun the garden is actually getting. It is something your character will have to consider when choosing their plants, especially aquatic plants are prone to sunburns in climates with harsher sunlight.
tiny plants for a pond
azolla or mosquito fern
Canadian pondweed
cardinal flower
creeping Jenny
pitcher plants
sensitive plant
water clover
water hyacinth
water lettuce
water sprite
tiny underwater pond plants
anacharis
cabomba
moneywort
tiny garden flowers
Angelina sedum
baby’s breath
bugleweed
brass buttons
common periwinkle
creeping phlox
Cretan oregano
dwarf lady fern
fairy foxglove
forget-me-not
ice plant
Kenilworth ivy
lobelia
rock cress
snow-in-summer
sweet alyssum
sweet woodruff
thyme
tufted pansy
slope plants
climbing hydrangea
creeping phlox
superstar creeper
verbena
wintercreeper
All of the above plants have tiny leaves and flowers, however some of them require a little maintenance to be actually kept short. There are also some neat foliage plants in here, but more so on the waterside of plants since those are limited to begin with.
Now there is nothing against a garden full of tiny colourful flowers, even short tiny colourful flowers, however the eye enjoys some rest with larger flowers or decorations that aren’t as intricate. When it comes to arrangements they are usually meant to form a complimentary contrast to their surroundings. A very bleak room with simple large shapes will benefit from an arrangement with lots of things going on it, and the other way around.
Furthermore, the arrangement depends on what it is. Is the entire garden the arrangement? Does your character have different containers they want to decorate with plants? Where is the arrangement located in the garden? Arrangements are planned based on available space, their placement, as well as how sun and shade the plants are getting.

For Edling Week 2022. Day 5: Myth | Heartache | Summer
AO3
The shocking thing wasn’t that he had apparently been kidnapped (rescued?) by a creature that was half-human, half-fish.
Ed had met his fair share of human chimeras. Once you had seen a guy turn his head into a bull’s, there wasn’t much else left that could surprise you.
However, they had been the result of alchemy, of experiments that, while breaking every possible ethical boundary, used the rules of chemistry that Ed understood and utilised as well as he knew how to speak. Even though he would never replicate it, he understood the theory to do it.
As this—boy?—had noticed that he couldn’t breathe, instead of bringing him back up to the surface, he had just slotted his mouth against Ed’s and a burst of air had expanded into his lungs. His chest felt like a bubble. He hadn’t needed to breathe after that.
It defied everything he knew about physics—he should have been dead ten minutes ago. And yet here he was, tied to a rock on an undersea mountain, perfectly alive.
“What the hell kind of chimera are you,” he finally said, underwater, his voice sounding exactly the same as it did on the surface.
What the fuck, what the ever-loving fuck.
“Hey! That’s not very nice,” the fish-guy pouted.
He spoke in something. It wasn’t Amestrian, or Cretan, or any other language that he knew. It wasn’t Xingese, definitely, which would have made sense geographically given that Ed had fallen out of the ship when it was getting near the Xingese coast. He hadn’t ever heard whatever he spoke, and yet he understood it—and even though it was impossible, Ed’s intuition told him that it had something to do with the breathing transfusion.
“I don’t know what a chimera is,” fish-guy continued. “I’m a merman.”
Ed frowned. What? “A chimera is the result of the transmutation of two or more animals into the same creature using alchemy. Or alkahestry, I guess,” he explained. “Which, yes, you are a chimera, you’re literally half-fish. Call it a merman, call it a triton, it’s still what it is.”
Fish-guy’s eyes shone with interest now. He swam slightly away, putting more distance between them, as if to showcase his body better. They weren’t that deep into the sea, but it was dim enough that the little light filtered through water gleaned on his large, yellow tail and made it the brightest thing Ed could see.
“I was just born like this, like all my ancestors before me,” he said jovially, as if he wasn’t taking a wrecking ball to Ed’s worldview. “But I knew there was something powerful to human magic if you’re able to do that. And that,” he started as he swam closer again, leaning his torso forward, “is what I need you for, my dear friend.”
“I’m not your friend,” Ed spat. He tested the green, seaweed-like fibre pinning his hands to the rock and away from each other, but they did not budge. “And the only thing you need me for is to untie me so I can kick your ass and get back to my ship.”
The merman cocked his head. His black bangs floated around his dark, thinking eyes. “Hm, no, I don’t think I can do that. I’ve seen you fight those men on board of your vessel and your magic. I need to inherit my father’s throne for the good of my people, and right now, your help is my best bet at achieving that.”
Ed clenched his teeth. He needed to find a way to get out of this bullshit right now. And then he’d have the freak-out about discovering that a mythological creature was an actual intelligent and apparently magical species later.
“By the way, I’m Ling Yao!” the merman said, goofy smile back in place. “I promise I’ll let you go soon, and I’m really sorry about the inconvenience, but in the meantime, you’ll see that we’ll become good friends.”

::Celebrating Liltha with a Catra x Reader::
Tumblr media
"C'mon, Catra! It's such a nice day out! Don't be boring~!"
Litha falls on the eve of the summer solstice and the longest day of the year. It celebrates the light while also prepares to welcome the dark.
This is another one of those sabbats that Catra just doesnt quite understand, but she's always willing to partake in your traditions, partially necause she kows how much it means to you, and partially because it makes her feel safe to start creating her own traditions.
You convincing Catra to spend the longest warm day with you outside. Both of you in flowy attire that niether of you could help but oggle the other in.
Taking Catra to pick fruits and bringing a cute little basket with you both. The stern, tough, cold force captain Catra looking incredibly foreign to everyone around Brightmoon's orchard, but judging by the criminal's warm smile, neither of you seemed to mind.
"Isn't that the women who ran the Horde?"
"I heard she used to be friends with Shera!"
"I can't believe they let them stay here..."
You two are having a picnic, underneath an oak tree. Catra loves sweets, so you have floral cookies, angel cake, and pomegranate juice.
Nothing is more festive for Litha than seeing Catra smile and laugh, her fangs showing, and you feel as though you fall for her a little more each time.
Her kissing you as you lay on the picnic blanket. Your face is warm as your skin glistens in the sun.
"You're beautiful, princess..."
"Hmm? What brought that up?"
Catra chuckled and gently placed her lips on yours, "Do I need a special occasion to compliment my girlfriend?"
You caressing her face in the soft moment, your hearts full and cozy within each other.
Making Catra a flower crown out of lavenders and violet's as you take turns reading poetry to each other.
You kiss her and giggle as you leave your lip gloss on her lips, and gently wipe it off of her, though you're both aware it's just an excuse for you to touch her more.
"And their feet move rhythmically, as tender feet of Cretan girls danced around an altar of love, crushing a circle in the soft, smooth flowering grass. Sappho."
"Always be a sucker for a good Sappho poem, huh?"
"Of course, though one day, I hope I can write one of my own, about the beautiful women in front of me..."
As the sun sets on the summer solstice's eve, you and Catra can be found kissing on the now wrinkled picnic blanket, laughing and giggling through, as you're both overwhelmed by your own happiness.

Autumn in Greece is a magical time of year. As the summer heat begins to fade, the country is transformed by the vibrant colors of fall foliage and the crisp, cool air. From the bustling streets of Athens to the serene islands of the Aegean Sea, Greece offers a unique and unforgettable experience for visitors during this season.
One of the best places to experience the beauty of autumn in Greece is in the Peloponnese region. This area is home to some of the country's most stunning landscapes, including the rugged mountains of the Taygetos range and the crystal-clear waters of the Ionian Sea. In the fall, the Peloponnese is ablaze with color as the leaves on the trees change from green to shades of red, orange, and yellow. Visitors can take scenic drives through the countryside, stopping to admire the views and sample local wines and olive oils at vineyards and olive groves along the way.
Another popular destination for autumn travelers in Greece is the island of Crete. This large island is known for its diverse landscapes, from sandy beaches to rugged mountains, and in the fall, it is a paradise for hikers and nature lovers. The Samaria Gorge, Europe's longest gorge, is a must-see attraction in Crete, and in the autumn, the cooler temperatures make it the perfect time to tackle this challenging hike. Visitors can also explore the ancient ruins of Knossos, the Minoan palace that dates back to the Bronze Age, and enjoy traditional Cretan cuisine at local tavernas.
For those looking for a more urban experience, the city of Thessaloniki is a great choice for an autumn getaway in Greece. This vibrant city is known for its rich history, lively nightlife, and delicious food, and in the fall, it comes alive with cultural events and festivals. The Thessaloniki International Film Festival takes place in November, showcasing the best in international cinema, while the Dimitria Festival celebrates the city's cultural heritage with music, dance, and theater performances. Visitors can also explore the city's many museums and galleries, sample local delicacies at the bustling Modiano Market, and take a leisurely stroll along the waterfront promenade.
Of course, no trip to Greece in the autumn would be complete without a visit to the capital city of Athens. This ancient city is a treasure trove of history and culture, with iconic landmarks such as the Acropolis, the Parthenon, and the Temple of Olympian Zeus. In the fall, the crowds of tourists that flock to Athens in the summer begin to thin out, making it the perfect time to explore the city's archaeological sites and museums at a more leisurely pace. Visitors can also take advantage of the cooler weather to hike up Mount Lycabettus for panoramic views of the city, or enjoy a leisurely stroll through the National Garden, a peaceful oasis in the heart of Athens.
For those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, the Greek islands offer a tranquil retreat in the autumn months. The islands of Santorini, Mykonos, and Rhodes are popular destinations for travelers seeking sun, sea, and relaxation, and in the fall, they are even more enchanting. The crowds of summer tourists have gone home, leaving the beaches and villages quiet and peaceful. Visitors can take leisurely walks along the cobblestone streets of the island towns, enjoy fresh seafood at seaside tavernas, and watch the sun set over the Aegean Sea in a blaze of colors.
Whether you're looking for a cultural experience in the city, a hiking adventure in the mountains, or a relaxing beach getaway, Greece has something to offer every traveler in the autumn. With its stunning landscapes, rich history, and warm hospitality, Greece is a destination that will capture your heart and leave you longing to return year after year.
