whenever shippers compare shadowgast and beauyasha I usually see it with Essek and Yasha being paralleled, and I do love the gardening buddies and Yasha telling Essek not to wait too long for love, but Essek and Beau vs Yasha and Caleb is much more compelling to me.

Beau and Essek are both young, rebellious and resentful prodigies from wealthy backgrounds with bad relationships with their parents. They’re both naturally suspicious loners. Both of them experience friendship and family for the first time with the Nein. I think it’s meaningful when Beau says “fuck, I like him,” after Essek opens up at dinner in the Xhorhouse; I think she relates to him a bit.

Caleb and Yasha have both been manipulated and mind controlled; have both done things they consider unforgivable. They have both experienced, and then lost, family and romantic love. They both lost time and memories, and eventually were found and saved by an unexpected friendship. Both their stories involve learning to live and love again, to find second chances.

I truly just cannot get Zerxus Ilerez off my mind. Oath of Redemption paladin who will throw away everything for the chance to redeem Satan, but doesn’t hesitate to smite “traitors” into the dust and says nothing when his best friend murders prisoners who have surrendered. Who saw his friends bleeding out and knew he could help them, but turned away and went to pull the Lord of the Hells into the world instead, not even out of pity but out of desire for “answers”. Who lives in a world of teleportation circles and still didn’t visit his traumatized young son for seven years. Who asked to have his memory wiped rather than live with the understanding of failure. Character of all fucking time.

lullaby's and musical stories music is always his go-to for everything. need sleep or entertainment? need to calm down? hes got a song for ya! he does have to censor himself or else he'll get dirty looks from pike.

pike is your babysitter if scanlan cant be there grog is of course a sibby ! definitely treats you like his younger sibling.

accidentally makes you laugh will try recreating it to get you to laugh again he's happy being the comedic relief if it means his little one is giggly

braids your hair if its long enough usually while he's singing you a lullaby or humming something to help you relax

loves playing pretend with you will use his illusions for the games you come up with

if music fails he panics he honestly has no clue what to do and if music fails he defaults to humor but when that doesnt work either he stresses out and either says something stupid or gets really sappy and sweet but denys he does so in front of the others

how he first found out was a mess he completely misread things and made you uncomfortable he misunderstood what it was, age regression or pet regression but pike set him straight and he did his best to make it up to you

the first time you called him "papa" or any other term you use he just melted a tiny bit of panic over realizing his responsibility but it told him you trusted him and it honestly warmed his heart

loves you, will find every excuse to express it nicknames? hes got hundreds for you songs? poems? hes currently drafting the 1000'th new one hugs? you dont even need to ask gifts? you have your own seperate bag of holding for the amount of snacks, toys and other things he picked up for you

it takes him a minute to catch on when youre little leads to many moments of him saying something he shouldn't in front of you, pike quietly snapping at him and him buffering before he visibly has an "oh sh!t" moment.

he will catch on to some clues if your speech changes when you regress he'll notice immediately if your mood has some changes like you get really sleepy or super chatty and energetic and zoomie when you regress he'll tease you a little cuz he thinks its adorable and youre super cute when youre little

"awe, falling asleep already kiddo? should we ask grog for uppies?"

insists he has to be on grog's other shoulder if youre small enough to be lifted like him and pike.
