One question, do you already have an oc defined or have you already drawn your oc?

I have a backstory and a description ready for all my oc's but I just haven't written them down. Florence Meadowes is my main one but I cannot draw for the life of me so no, I haven't drawn her, or the other Flo. I have drawn Florian and it came out eh- and someone else drew him too and it came out really cool.

I think I've said in the past that she's still down in the Chamber...? 🤔 Riddle hasn't had much need for her, so he's been leaving her alone. Hadrian won't meet her in CS, but there's a potential that with Nagini gone, Riddle will crave another snake companion to ease the pain of her death, and Hadrian might be introduced to her later on.

I'm still workshopping that though, since the basilisk isn't a hugely relevant plot point.

So, I picked up The Nonary Games t'other day, and I have a few observations (from completing 999 and being ??% through Virtue's Last Reward):

1. Wow is it wild how many number base based puzzles are in 999. Like, I think part of the reason it took me comparitively little time to complete is my actual maths/CS degree.

2. Okay also mathematical/computational thinking more generally because "oh, this is isomorphic to a tile flip puzzle" is a thought I had at one point, in those words (I did cheat slightly on that one post-revelation, because I suck at tile flip puzzles. Also the magic square puzzle, though the hard part is recognising what it is)

3. Meanwhile my god VLR we do not need like 4 mini cutscenes between short text segments. Show one of: the door with the name opening and closing; the beeping map motion; the establishing shots of the new room; or the black screen with the name on! Heck maybe even 2 of them! Just don't do all four of them! Really! There are just constant 30+ second long unstoppable cutscenes and. Just. Why?!

4. Seriously, I took to timing the room transitions. One I encountered took around an entire minute because it included maps and doors for interstitial rooms too.

5. Honestly, I know the development timeline mean's it's not completely feasible, but I am still a bit surprised that Roko's Basilisk hasn't come up in VLR. It just feels like something that fits the pseudoscience (the steam store page literally uses the word "pseudoscience!") vibe.

6. Luna, my beloved. Okay this isn't really an"observation" but I really want to note it.

7. Okay, so, I think 999 works a lot better for me because seriously there are so many dead ends and story locks in VLR. Okay, so just going for what I vibed with lead to the story lock, singular, in 999 first route I tried, but that happened for the first several in VLR which is a bit "oh come on". I have since managed to get a few endings... And ran into several more story locks.

8. I appreciate that in one TL of VLR they do address the benefits of cooperating in the Prisoner's Dilemma explicitly pre-voting (as for post, see point 6), but I don't think the idea of the iterated Prisoner's Dilemma came up in any first round conversations, which is an actual odd miss.

9. Ngl, I do feel a wee bit awkward about the spicier costuming choices, given the probability of someone seeing the screen over my shoulder.

I probably have more to say, but that seems like a good number to leave it on.

Actually hang on, I'm not going to wreck the numbering for this, but: oh man VLR's camera controls are not working well for me rn. Talk about the the true final boss. Really, it speaks to the merits (that I have glossed over a bit here) of the game that I've still solved a bunch of rooms.

Surprised nobody went “when isn’t there something nefarious going on, like an attempted murder” by the time HPB rolled around. At some point, they’ve just gotta factor the chaos and murder plots into their plans for the year

Yeah. I know it's for the sake of the story, and there would be no books if none of that happened, right? But I feel like even taking into account all of that, HP is very unnecessarily dark and violent at times.

The entire theme of the series is violence and ambiguous morality, so it's so weird when people single out specific incidents or characters as "bad" when the entire series is just one violent act after another.

I love the dark side of HP, honestly.
