Operation: Eat Like Felix – DAY 3 A Boris the Wolf production of Suffering

[Camera fades in. Everyone looks like they’ve aged ten years. The vibe? “We've seen things.”]

BORIS (voiceover): “Day 3. We lost Mugman for an hour. He was curled under the sink whispering ‘candy corn’ like a spell. Bendy’s chewing on a shoe. Cuphead hasn’t blinked. Mickey’s, well, Mickey’s gone quiet. That’s worse.”

FELIX (off-screen, cheerful): “Okay! Today’s meal plan is light and refreshing!”

Celery-apple-ginger juice

Raw oat porridge with almond milk and chia

Fermented cabbage wraps

Dinner: blue meat with cold rice, raw pumpkin salad, and a wheatgrass shot

Dessert: a frozen grape

CUPHEAD (eyes wide): “That’s not food. That’s a dare.”

OSWALD (walking in with coffee and a donut): “Morning, losers! Who’s ready for sadness?”

BORIS (monotone): “Felix said no sugar, Oswald.”

OSWALD: “Yeah, well Felix also believes chewing is optional and happiness is illegal.”

Felix walks in behind Oswald, expression neutral, holding a plate of rainbow-colored veggie things that look suspiciously like punishment.

FELIX: “I spent an hour spiralizing zucchini into noodles. Where’s the gratitude?”

CUPHEAD (hoarse): “In my suffering.”

MUGMAN (crying): “I drank the green juice and my tongue tried to escape.”

MICKEY (flat): “This wrap smells like betrayal.”

[MIDDAY – MELTDOWN]

Oswald is full-on cackling in the corner, filming with his phone as Cuphead attempts to chew blue meat with a cold rice square.

OSWALD: “You guys said you wanted to support Felix’s lifestyle. This is support, right?”

CUPHEAD: “I’m going to support my fist into your snack cabinet.”

BENDY (panicked): “If I eat another chia seed I’m going to start floating.”

FELIX (arms crossed, deeply disappointed): “This is not that hard. My body is a temple.”

OSWALD (eating his donut): “Yeah, and we’re over here camping in a dumpster behind the temple.”

FELIX: “You begged me to help you get healthier—”

CUPHEAD: “WE LIED.”

[DINNER – FINAL STRAW]

Felix places wheatgrass shots on the table.

Everyone looks at them like they’re radioactive.

MICKEY: “That looks like melted Hulk.”

MUGMAN (sniffing it): “I smell… lawn.”

CUPHEAD (grabbing Oswald’s donut): “If I die, tell Bendy I love him and Felix’s food did this to me.”

OSWALD (laughing uncontrollably): “I can’t—Felix, they’re falling apart faster than wet tissue paper!”

FELIX (quietly offended): “You guys don’t even chew properly. No posture. No respect for phytonutrients.”

BORIS: “Felix, I had a vision of a cheeseburger whispering my name.”

BENDY: “I tried to eat a stick of deodorant.”

OSWALD (still laughing): “This is the best thing I’ve ever seen.”

[FINAL INTERVIEW – BROKEN SPIRITS]

BORIS: “I’m done filming. I’m done eating leaves. Oswald laughed so hard he nearly passed out. Felix said he was ‘deeply disappointed in our commitment to spirulina.’ We’ve lost every battle. The only winner…”

[Camera zooms in on Oswald, sipping coffee with a satisfied smirk.]

BORIS: “…is the guy who married the diet demon and knew better than to participate.”

FELIX (walking by, muttering): “Weaklings.”

MUGMAN: “He’s beautiful. But terrifying.”

So, I'm going to rank more of the cuphead bosses, but this time I'll make it shorter lol. I'll also put a compiled list down at the end.

24. Dr. Kahl's Robot - This is now on my top 10 favorite bosses of all time, but i have to say, this is, third stage. The chaos emeralds just coming at you and you can only get the pink ones by dodging the laser walls and crystals. Crazy. I love the aspect on how it builds up now, but you also have to hit his three weak points in a certain way on the first stage to even remotely get close to an S rank easier. Overall, the bombs killed me the most and if I don't have to play it, I may not.

23. Mortimer Freeze - just annoying all around. RNG sucks with any projectile, including cards, Popsicles, and the lazers on the last phase. I think cool idea, but actually annoying as heck when this is a boss you really need a precise reaction time. The last phase truly sucks so much a**

22. Moonshine Mob - probably the most iconic fake out knock outs that killed everyone 😂 I truly love the second phase because bee girl 🥰 but, the first phase can be an RNG killer. What saves this from going lower is the third phase I kind of like, but the fake out with the tongue can get annoying to even try to dodge or parry.

21. Phear Lap - truly ironically killing everyone their first time playing the King Dice... Blue hood guy kills everyone I feel like. I actually like how they did the circles horse shoes coming at you, but I can't tell you how many lives I lost on this mini boss before continuing because of... Blue Hoody Guy. Though, super comes in clutch in this fight.

20. Baroness Von Bon Bon - Truly one of the first times I started to actually struggle in the game. First phase was alright, no matter who was the first to come out. But then, starting on the second and third phase, I swear cupcake dude made me so mad I reset everytime I got him. I think the only other dude with bad RNG that made me mad was candy corn. Other than that, I think the third phase was alright, but too long though. It takes like two supers to kill her last phase. But I remember being so frustrated with her 3rd and last phase that I started to dislike the game from her!

19. Chips Bettigan - just an annoying mini boss all around. Boring as hell. COOL TYPE OF BOSS! You can dash through him almost every time, and still end up possibly losing 1 health. Just boring, not worth exploring to come back, and annoying to die from (as a beginner mostly).

18. Mr. Chimes - the last mini boss who really tests your patience... on patience. I have some, but Jesus. Getting cards wrong in the wrong place could get bad RNG with him speeding up towards you. Monkey claps are pretty easy no lie, and I actually like the type of design where he has to be hit in phases. But, it's more like the patience you have to have in this mini boss.

17. Angel and Demon - basically one of the hardest fights in the game, and spent WAY TOO MUCH TIME trying to figure out the code to unlock it. The fight goes hard, but spending an hour on it just isn't worth it to not play again. The concept is great, flipping loved it. BUT! I think this was the hardest time I raged in cupheas (compared to Cow girl, maybe the same). Never got to boring though!

16. Goopy Le Grande - One of the best beginner bosses! Too easy though. Even for a beginner player. Thought it may got harder for S ranking, nope. Boring after 3 attempts. Good intro boss and a great concept for a beginner boss, but not challenging at all.

15. Wally Warbles - Ain't no way the second phase is just that easy in between a very hard first and third phase, like what!? First phase is fine until either you're not paying attention to his fingers and have a split second to dodge bullets, or the fact the egg bombs spread three hard dodging ways. This is the boss I feel like took the longest and I swear I was hating this boss so much, I left it 4 times until I HAD TO FINISH IT! Most of the times, when you're ready to use a super on the second phase, you may get unlucky and accidentally hit a feather. Though, I love the baby bird and last phase, the first three is what set me off to hate it the most. Though, this was a challenging level and I started to like it a lot afterwards because it makes you utilize techniques you can use!

I wrote less today, but ranking over 10 was so thought provoking, I lost my mind XD Hoenstly, the hardest ones to rank were these. I might even switch it afterwards.

Spooky season Cuphead Head cannons!

- cuphead downs his Halloween candy the night of, Mugman saves his (this is actually canon)

- Elder kettle makes the boys check their candy (if the wrappers opened they can’t eat it- if ykyk)

- cuphead tells Mugman scary stories after trick or treating, in the middle of the night Mugman sneaks into Cuphead’s room and they have a sibling sleep over (older sibling and younger sibling vibes Fr- cuphead is older canon)

-Chalice loves scary movies, Mugman doesn’t. Cuphead claims to like scary movies but only because he wants to impress chalice, in the end he’s the biggest cry baby.

- cuphead and Mugman watch old Disney Halloween cartoons all October

- cuphead has def dressed up as Dirk Dangerous for Halloween

- chalice, Cuphead and Mugman play ding dong ditch

- the devil, king dice and henchmen actually love Halloween. And not just because they get to terrify mortals but they love dressing up and getting candy. (Devil has def convinced King dice to do a couple costume with him)

- Baroness gets really lonely on Halloween because before she was trapped in sugar land, millions of people would come to her house to trick or treat because she had the best candy

- briney beard and Cala Maria win all the couple costume contests (close call with devil and dice)

- cuphead and Mugman use chalice (in her ghost form) to cheat at corn mazes

- Cuphead screams back at scare actors at haunted hayrides (it’s his reflex)

- when cuphead, Mugman and chalice go apple picking they throw apples at each other over the trees. (Mugman ends up getting hit by an apple and cries)

Hi! These are Kat and M. M is the kitsune (fox) and Kat is… well, the nekomimi (cat). That one was probably obvious because her name (not her real name) is just “cat” with a k.

I did these with alcohol markers and honestly? I think this is the second or third time I’ve colored something successfully with alcohol markers. Oh, and this white paint(?) pen I got in a tube of colored pencils.

(Random rant stuff below)

So, Kat and M are twins. Not identical in any way except their skin tones. M wears a mask that says “Anxiety Sux”. Originally, M was this… chaotic character in terms of her original design(s) (there was two other ones before this).

To put it into words, M was a mix of different things that I liked. Whether it be fandoms, daggers, or pancakes, it was put into her first and second designs. Her “mask” used to be a piece of tape that said ANXIETY for the anime/manga Komi Can’t Communicate.

I kept the “covering her mouth” thing, but changed what exactly covers her mouth. She used to have part of her skull showing on her right side for Undertale. I gave her an animatronic cat ear (on her right, again) for FNaF, and a normal cat ear on the other side.

She used to have two fox tails (still does) but one was purple because I have a Sonic OC that is a purple fox. There was a Cuphead handle, Mike Wazowski’s horn (the other horn was the handle), magic sparkles, a snake tattoo, a book on her hoodie, candy corn on her hoodie, a bunny face on her hoodie, and more that I can’t remember.

Kat, however, was based off of a picture I found on Google + Wattpad roleplays in comments. Here’s the image:

Now she’s just my inner child with part of my personality. My eyes are mostly green and brown, so I split the two colors between the characters since they each have different parts of my personality.

Although not a prominent character, I’ve always been a fan of this candy corn character from Adventure Time, I love the idea of having a face on each segment, it almost looks like it could come apart and be 3 different characters. I do wonder if I could turn this candy corn shape into some kind of snail shell?

I really like each of the boss designs from Cuphead, and there are a few food related characters. The one that came immediately to mind for me though was the onion, and how it cries and using its tears to attack the player- I like that the develops have given it moves relating to the fact that onions make our eyes water. The design really reminds me of the food in Tom and Jerry. 

Chop Chop Master Onion is a character from Parappa the Rapper, he’s more of a humanoid with an onion head. I don’t really know why he’s an onion though? There might be a reason, but I can’t see it. This is the sort of character design I’m not a fan of as it just seems random, with not as much thought behind it. Good game though. 

Donut Head Homer is from a Halloween episode of the Simpsons when Homer is cursed to become a donut, as donuts are his favourite food, he can’t help but pick at bits and eat the crumbs. I think Homers face works really well on a donut, and love the fact the he eats himself. 

Wattam is a game where you take control of various different little items and work together to unite them all. There are a variety of food characters, and they mostly just look like real food but with simple arms, legs, and a face. I’m not a fan of these designs as they’re not creative enough for me, for example I think they could’ve done so much more with the sushi pictured, why does the salmon bit not have a face like the Adventure Time candy corn? Couldn’t they have done wore with the rice and have the arms and legs look like rice grains? I do appreciate that they wanted to go for a simple and consistent style, but I think it would’ve been better to experiment more with each food for more interesting results. 

Cake Bash, a party game starring an array of desserts does something similar to Wattam, but in my opinion it does it much better. Like Wattam the cakes just look like real food, but they have expressions and arms and legs that look as though they’ve just been scribbled on top of them, it’s simple but gives them a lot more personality. Look at that angry little chocolate cake on the right. Also everything in this game is cake themed, the mini games involve decorating cakes, collecting sprinkles, and fighting on the cafe desk.

I’ve never been a fan of the art style used in Aqua Teen Hunger Force, the characters and overall animation quality just isn’t there for me. I don’t know, maybe it’s intentional- but something just looks washed out here, when I think of food I think of bright colourful characters and these don’t have that. I appreciate that it is something different, but to me the designs don’t stand out, and it’s not something I want to replicate. 

This was a character I found when researching food mascots, I don’t think it’s actually from anything, I think someone just designed it as a little burger character, but this is way more in line with the sort of look I want to implement in my game, very bright and colourful with lots of energy. This is the complete opposite to Aqua Teen Hunger Force, the colours here are so much more inviting and it has a lot of movement to it, even as a static image.

Research 6: More food characters

Here is a bunch of food characters from games, movies and tv shows. First, I have the root pack from cupheads (Potato, carrot and an onion). These are basic designs as they just have a face and arms, all three showing differnet emotions. Secondly, there is Peely and the brat from fortnite. These are more well thought out characters, with arms and legs and other human like features. The brat (hot dog person) has sausage strings around his neck (cannibal!?) plus human items of clothing. The next is the true form of the summerween trickster from Gravity falls. This is basically a giant heap of thrown away sweets. What’s interesting is that the character design uses pieces of sweets as facial features (e.g. peppermint as eyes and candy corns as fangs). Next are the adorable cakes from cake bash, these may look basic and adorable but also it’s funny how they have sort of realistic bodies and then basic drawn arms and legs. Finally, the marshmallow giant from ghostbusters. This huge monster is made entirely out of marshmallow with a scarf and hat, to make him look innocent when he is not.

Food Character Designs

Next I’ve decided to look at some food characters from shows and games.

Although not a prominent character, I’ve always been a fan of this candy corn character from Adventure Time, I love the idea of having a face on each segment, it almost looks like it could come apart and be 3 different characters. This is something that I could do with a lolly for one of my characters.

I love all of the bosses in Cuphead, and there are a few food related characters. One that came straight to mind for mev though was the onion, and how it cries and uses its tears to attack the player- again this is the sort of character design and moveset I like to see, as onions make people cry. The design really reminds me of the food in Tom and Jerry. 

Chop Chop Master Onion is a character from Parappa the Rapper, he’s more of a humanoid with an onion head. I don’t really know why he’s an onion though? There might be a reason, but I can’t see it. This is the sort of character design I’m not a fan of as it just seems random, with not as much thought behind it. Good game though. 

Donut Head Homer is from a Halloween episode of the Simpsons when Homer is cursed to become a donut, as donuts are his favourite food, he can’t help but pick at bits and eat the crumbs. I think Homers face works really well on a donut, and love the fact the he eats himself. 

Wattam is a game where you take control of various different little items and work together to unite them all. There are a variety of food characters, and they mostly just look like real food but with simple arms, legs, and a face. I’m not a fan of these designs as they’re not creative enough for me, for example I think they could’ve done so much more with the sushi pictured, why does the salmon bit not have a face like the Adventure Time candy corn? Couldn’t they have done wore with the rice and have the arms and legs look like rice grains? I do appreciate that they wanted to go for a simple and consistent style, but I think it would’ve been better to experiment more with each food for more interesting results. 

Cake Bash, a party game starring an array of desserts does something similar to Wattam, but in my opinion it does it much better. Like Wattam the cakes just look like real food, but they have expressions and arms and legs that look as though they’ve just been scribbled on top of them, it’s simple but gives them a lot more personality. Look at that angry little chocolate cake on the right. Also everything in this game is cake themed, the mini games involve decorating cakes, collecting sprinkles, and fighting on the cafe desk. 

I’ve never been a fan of the art style used in Aqua Teen Hunger Force, the characters and overall animation quality just isn’t there for me. I don’t know, maybe it’s intentional- but something just looks washed out here, when I think of food I think of bright colourful characters and these don’t have that. I appreciate that it is something different, but to me the designs don’t stand out, and it’s not something I want to replicate. 

This was a character I found when researching food mascots, I don’t think it’s actually from anything, I think someone just designed it as a little burger character, but this is way more in line with the sort of look I want to implement in my game, very bright and colourful with lots of energy. This is the complete opposite to Aqua Teen Hunger Force, the colours here are so much more inviting and it has a lot of movement to it, even as a static image.
