Making an articulated Bruno doll!

⚠️ WARNING⚠️

You can potentially ruin your Bruno doll doing this! Follow the instructions carefully or practice on a doll you don’t care about first. It’s also potentially dangerous as you will have to use sharp tools. This is the sum of my knowledge after doing this twice and YEARS of doll customizing experience, but I’m always still learning. It’s also decently expensive and intensive for a doll project. You have been warned.

Step one, find a donor body:

Find a doll body that is as close of a skintone match as possible to Bruno or any other doll you are trying this with. I’ve found this brand MAFBODY master action figuarts in “sunburnt” to be nearly identical. The hands and feet are even compatible. Though there are ways to use the original hands and feet if you so choose.

Step two, dissection:

Now you must take apart both dolls. Easier said than done. First remove the head using your preferred method (I prefer the putting the doll in a plastic bag and dunking it in boiling water to remove the head), MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT DAMAGE OR LOSE THE NECK PEG.

Next, take a wood carving tool and insert it into the seam on the side of the doll, wedge it in there good so it creates a gap. Then you take some needle nose pliers and force the seam open. You can use hot water to help but please be careful about burning yourself. Repeat on the other side to ensure it doesn’t break in a weird spot. With enough brute force, it should open up into two pieces. Then remove the old limbs. For the donor doll I recommend opening it up with a dremmel tool to get at the insides as that doll is much more sturdy and you only really need the limbs. I also removed the entire lower half of the donor doll since it was easier than trying to get the legs out.

Adar's doll base came in the mail!!!

This is not the original doll I had chosen.But, it was the second best option I could find that still had damage and would fit for a living dead doll style. Adar's base is a 1976 Baby Come Back Doll. This doll is about 16 inches tall.

I was originally wanting a 1968 Catch a Ball Baby Doll because I love the face sculpt. That would have been perfect for living dead adar. But the damage was beyond my skill for the one I found in my prince range. I also can't justify obliterating a pristine vintage doll. There were several in very good condition.

He'll definitely be rather chibish. But, I'm in love with that idea! Cute and menacing is the look I will be shooting for!!

I am bit frustrated though because I just noticed that his shoes are molded to the body. That's very lazy in my opinion. Oh well! I am super excited to get started on this project!!!

Adar is gonna have some rockin hips though! And check out those thighs🤣😍🖤

Discovered you can completely and utterly turn the Shibajuku head inside out if you get it hot enough (and cut a large headcap).

I am super pleased because I can shave off the eyewells all the way! This has been a big problem inside Poochie's head, I could never angle the xacto well enough to get the vinyl remnants out to allow for better eye placement. I can't turn her inside out any more either lol. But this head might have better chances.

If she cools back down right, anyway. I've flipped her back out now and she looks ... funny. I don't know if the turning overstretched her, or if the interior vinyl removal is making her eyes sag a bit, but she looks strange around the bridge of her nose at the moment 😅

Some of my favorite in tape designs!!!!!! (That I designed.. lol)

They are all "stamp" type tape, i even paid the factory extra to get custom molds for these because I love the differing lengths and shapes of real stamps as well as amore delicate line of circles vs the default molds with huge circles.

There was a little drama at some point because the factory was letting people use my mold that I paid for but I cleared it up @_@;;

Anyway I don't go to cons anymore so I will probably have to stop selling washi tape cause they don't do so hot online especially for the price we have to sell them at to make it worth it for these complex designs + foil etc. No regretti tho, to see them in person is worth it.

All my washi tape (there's more than this too lol) are buy 4 get 1 free~
