Bad dark joke but I feel like cultural representations of crown prince rudolf and the extreme overemphasis/influence of 1888-1889 in discussions of him are kind of like the internet meme thing with blobfish. Like that's his sad corpse you're parading around and showing to people,,,,,

tears of the kingdom could have been so good if it were built around like, its story or its characters instead of being a clunky shell to show off the mechanic no one asked for that it forces you to use
#*#text#totk#mechanics#i had fun scuttling around in the depths for a while but that got old eventually. for obvious reasons#what i liked about zelda games was always the atmosphere and character interactions#like. one of my favorite games is twilight princess. which is. deeply unserious in many ways#bit it COMMITTED to its setting and what the writers went ham making sure#that it was still full of whimsy and affection.#totk doesn't have that. the characters are all 1) instruction manuals or 2) vehicles for what small and disparate semblances of plot#survived whatever disaster must have happened in development that made them cannibalize several different ideas#and stick them into the shell for the fucking. arm#totk plays like a gallery or again just an engine for the building thing.#it's pretty. the music is good. the building thing is well made. but as a zelda game totk Fucking Tanks#i HATE overinvolved mechanics. i HATE having to stop and rely on a Whole Process that i have to keep stocked#to get anything done. i've always liked loz again bc of characters and whimsy but also bc it's always been mechanically vert streamlined#and accessible to someone like me who is disabled and finds fiddling EXTREMELY tedious#you have one required tool per dungeon and they're QUICK they're SIMPLE they're A GOOD TIME#totk. to me. is just clunky and has no redeeming qualities outside of again being pretty and still sort of nominally letting you run around#collecting things. some of the side quests were cute. but even then the characters were very.#THE THING ABOUT ZELDA GAMES IS THAT IM used TO THEM BEING ABOUT. NOT JUST THE FUNCTION!!!!!!#there were things— many of them! sometimes most of them even!!!— there just for fun. again almost especially The Characters#totk is so goddamn UTILITARIAN on all levels ITS. CLUNKY and BORING i don't WANT to have to do 30 things just so i can do something else.#hey nintendo. if you have to force people to play your game. like if you specifically have an ''open'' game and then subsequently have to#manufacturer MANY blocks and caveats to the idea of ''do whatever have fun!!'' so that it's''but only how WE want you to''. maybe thats bad.#maybe you've done a bad job. if again. you have to FORCE players to go about things in the way and order that you want. it's no fun.#like even zelda games where you have less options and linear progression feel less restrictive bc like. they don't fucking punish you.#for. playing the game. you just can't do things. totk really punishes you for going off script. which like. why even do that.#anyway. this is all probably incoherent. i'm right tho.#wow there are so many typos. pretend there are not <3

#Song Of Silver Flame like Night#aroaessidhe 2023 reads#with the caveat that i am clearly not the audience. i kinda hated this lol#for a few very specific reasons#i think there’s interesting concepts & worldbuilding#but i am just so burnt out on girl-and-boy-with-no-friends-and-instant-attraction-travelling-together as the centre of a story yknow#this random girl dies and then after she’s referring to her as her best friend but like….i didn’t get that from their single conversation.#it almost feels like shoved in last minute because of feedback of no other female friendships#when there’s finally another woman it’s the stereotype of a mean girl. and they are just calling each other bitches and whores….like jesus…#she is so one dimensional but also in concept she is 20x cooler than the mc sorry i’m rooting for her now#from the end seems like they’ll be forced to work together and probably become reluctant allies/friends in book 2 or something but like….#if that was intended from the beginning you have to make the initial hatred make sense in the first place#also boys getting all embarrassed by periods……it’s 2023. come on. it's not cute and endearing.#if ur looking for dragons bc of the cover. there are barely dragons. the one shows up in like the last chapter#also the audiobook narration is one of those where the normal narration is a normal voice but the dialogue is so cartoony?#like the girls have such high pitched voices.the boys have the deeper voice. except for like random side boys who have comical ones.#idk none of them sound like real people#things i did like: the magic i guess. though to be quite honest the colonisers metal based magic seemed more original and interesting asdhgf#i thought there were some interesting elements to the dudes backstory#oh another thing i disliked is theres a side character with a cleft lip and the MC brings it up EVERY TIME like like.....what.#every time she sees him shes like. ppl used to discriminate#against this and call them (a bunch of slurs) and say they're cursed but actually maybe it's just a scar. people used to call them slurs btw#. i am going to bring this up every time i look at them.

a short little compilation of some of my splats from the nov 2023 greetings splatfest!
#splatoon 3#lizz.mp4#splatfest??? was an actually decent experiece??? what???#i usually dont really care much for splatfests especially the regular turf war mode bc i find it kind of tedious#but turns out maybe it can be ok! i had some nice moments and squid parties with teams id be matched with IT WAS SO CUTE!!!#i still greatly prefer salmon run as a mode bc i find it more gratifying and easier to learn (and more of my friends are into it)#i think the caveat with splatfest is that i want like... several things out of the 'weapon' that i choose for it#i want a weapon that's forgiving when i fuck up so that it's not aim intensive. so i cant play my babygirl charger its too much effort#secondly i want like.. a weapon that.. doesnt make my hands want to shrivel up#inkbrush is a win button but goddamn is it a LOt to press just to slap real fast#so my alternatives are reeflux and the tri-sloshers.. which i LOVE but they have piss poor range#my issue would be easily solved if i could be assed playing a shooter but i've been playing no shooters this season#because i want no orange on that chart!! (i'll resume using shooters next season maybe)#anyway. the next time theres a splatfest i might stream it just bc i think itd be more entertaining for me to talk about nothing#as i fumble around through the silly little squid game#i think a lot about this game... i really enjoy 'mastery' of things and splatoon hits that Learning Hit for me#will probably going to shift my focus back onto other games though b4 december hits. i need to see yosk and mint NOW!!!

i really don’t miss being a teenager or even my early twenties. what i do kind of miss sometimes is strangers treating me like a completely nonthreatening little lost boy. i could walk up to anyone with my big eyes and that look of just general fear on my face, and they would be immediately willing to help me with whatever i needed. like you know the tbh creature? i kind of can’t stand that thing, but it was basically me. and i wasn’t even putting it on! i just looked like a teenage child until i was around 25. some people still think i’m a teenager, but i carry myself differently now that i have actual confidence, so people see more than the baby face.
the funny thing is, i eventually figured out what was happening and learned to lean into it a bit. i still wasn’t acting it up, but i would notice who treated me that way and go to them more than others. like i really was an anxious autistic young person, so i relied on whatever could help me survive, even if it meant letting people treat me like a kid. it doesn’t work that way for me anymore, and i wouldn’t want that again, but i think it’s all really funny when i look back on it.
#it might sound like i’m bragging about being cute#and i do think i’m cute/hot and love it#but having a baby face can be a detriment at times#being underestimated talked down to etc. can be really frustrating#and i get… all the creeps. like all of them.#important caveat: i am white. i understand that’s part of why things worked that way for me#i talked to my brother in law about it one time and he’s black and said people didn’t treat him that way even when he *was* a kid#which wasn’t something i’d considered at the time because i was still young#anyway#weirdly i rarely got carded even when i was under 21#i think i just went to shady places#i would go with older people though so maybe that helped
