wouldn't it be funny if pretty much everyone in Euros' city heard Sparrows talk using regional slangs and going "what the FUCK is she saying"
it Would, but unfortunately that got beaten out of her pretty hard back in the Desaevio school, so at this point Sparrows knows how to watch her language around high circles. it actually makes her kind of weird back home! her siblings got a good shock when she came back home and spoke to them for the first time in six years and it was with northern accent and very High Circle Like gjksljlcdskl
However Euros himself is NOT spared

I NEED HELP (DND Stuff, might be a dumb question idk-)
So genuine question for DND side of tumblr, but- I've been thinking recently...
And are the things next to the dragonborn colors in the player handbook, like, types of damage that are less effective, their magical girl power, or both?
Cuz I never really thought about that before and I have absolutely no idea-

so r u just against using the word "misandry" specifically or do u actually not think there's systemic issues that affect men (or any other privileged group)? cuz i can respect the first, id disagree i think its fine to call it misandry. but the second would be a very weird thing to think for a leftist feminist who seems to have generally pretty stellar sociological analysis. i thought u believed the second thing, but seeing other stuff you've written i can't quite tell?
Men can individually be oppressed for something other than their manhood, whether this be homophobia, transphobia, racism, economic classism, or any other form of oppression. But there is no oppression men face on the basis of being men.
Oppression is class-based and systemic. “Men” and “women” are social classes, and in patriarchal societies (most of the globe) men are the oppressor class, and women are the oppressed class. That is why misogyny is real and misandry is not.
There are men who face transphobia, or racism, or homophobia, but every woman who faces one of those also faces misogyny and these compound. This is the basis of intersectionality.
That isn’t to say patriarchy never also hurts men, but they are still the clear beneficiaries, in the same way that white supremacy sometimes also hurts white people but they still overwhelmingly benefit, and using yankeephobia or whatnot to discuss that would be ridiculous.
Hegel’s Master Slave Dialectic shows that slavery does also hurt the slave master in a way, but he’s still the obvious beneficiary and enforcer of that system. All oppression works this way

in-universe animals do not speak spanish/english natively, they must learn it. This is also supported by the fact everyone was surprised by a talking donkey in Shrek but i guess as soon as you dress them no one bats an eye
I.E. puss learned spanish/english as his first language probably because he spent a significant portion of his adolescence with his human mother
Perrito can speak English (and Spanish i think) and he probably learned it at a young age
His family *not* his littermates are the ones who made the attempts on his life
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Conclusion: ?!?!???!? Who went through the trouble of teaching spanish/english to a litter of dogs, picked Perrito out of them, went "ew not this one" and tried to drown him?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? did u not bond during the grammer lessons??!!!
alternatives to this include:
Perrito learned to talk after the Sock Incident
certain animals are gifted with speech unbeknownst to humans and the family who raised Perrito are still dirtbags but differentiated by the fact that they didnt know he could talk which kind of makes it different (but really not really)
all in-universe animals speak Spanish as their native tongue and Perrito was raised by an English speaking family (english which seems to be the dominant language with various dialects/accents) and they thought his Spanish was a weird AF bark or they were really xenophobic. this option starts off the funniest bc having spanish be the native language of animals is objectively wild, but it ends real sad :(
Big Jack Horner raised his litter
i like the funny cat movie cuz we get a lot of play dough to work with for this type of stuff etc etc that reaction pic of the guy from iasip with red string conspiracy map

I see many people saying (or mixed opinions) saying Aemond's High Valyrian was weak, the grammers not correct, the pronounciation all wrong and stuff. But how so exactly? The show creators might be complete assholes towards the writing, but one thing they ARE good at, is creating the world of ASOIAF. And in no way they would let a character's actor get in front of the camera without a proper knowledge of what is written in the script, or having been verified by experts. Plus , con lang english romanizations exists. The actors just get a brief idea of how to drag and pronounce certain drag and rolls on the letters, rest are just memorized from what is written in the script.
It is why actors, during games in interviews are not able to answer what is the meaning of basic valyrian words such as ''Zaldrizes'' or ''Perzys'' etc. Cuz they spend much time on perfecting their roles and getting thru to learn an entire diff language. Romanizations are always written in the script, they just need to take the time to memorize and perfect their accents.
Yet people are coming and saying Aemond's HV sounds horrible, or stuff is not correct. But Where? He said what he was supposed to say, with perfectly emotions laced to it. Sometimes it is difficult to get grip on the theme you want to interlace within the language u are speaking; esp languages u r def reading memorized from script. So one needs to focus on the language itself, AS WELL AS the emotions they want to convey. Aemond sounded mocking, sarcastic and definitely intended to get on Aegon's nerves; thus his HV adapts that way as well. You will notice when he speaks HV, he very much sounds like his own self; that is Aemond's own soft, almost evil-siren-smooth tone he goes for as in Common Tongue. So considering it, the HV came out really well, breaking off and chaining back to a gentle flow.
Besides, the construct of the sentences and hard words were DELIBERATE. Aemond was taunting Aegon, knowing his brother cannot for the life of him piece two HV words tgthr. This complex constructions, now smhw seemed like mistakes to yall.
HV's accent does not roam around one singular one. We saw Dany's one being clear and frankly, HONESTLY not rolled and flowy enough. It was like she was pronouncing english words. But it was expected. Targaryens were nearly extinct and Dany learned her Val mixed with Essosi and Lyseni dialects. She even says ''Dracarys'' in a way it LOOKS like it should sound, whereas it actually shud lean heavily on ''Thra-ka-ris'', The way she had said to that Slave Trader holding Drogon.
Then when HOTD came out, it is set in a time where Targaryen dynasty was flourishing and thus the Valyrian culture amongst them was heavy; all having Dragon Keepers and their own fam members to guide them thru. They all have different accents you will notice, Milly as young Rhaenyra has one that flows naturally and multiples words chain into the other which often cannot be understood when matching with the written romanizations. She pronounces her ''J''s like ''h'' or at times a mildly heavy ''g''. Daemon's one is, tbh one of the best and he rolls his accent perfectly, although still leaning on a heavier side. Emma's one is more similar to Matt's too. All actors are given even a small amount of freedom in how they speak HV in their terms; and the accent varies. It gives a look into the character they are playing. Everyone learns the language in the same way, but they adapt it to a form comfortable in their own mouth and goes with it. Bcz that is what Valyrians are supposed to be, they are not fixed to one single form; they are open to everything. It is at the end of the day the language sinking into your character, as a part of who you are.
So Aemond's HV was good. Not only that, but brilliant as he is supposed to be, as a person who trained to immaculacy all his life. He managed to not sound robotic in a language Ewan barely knows and tried to pour the theme aimed for and how Aemond would talk in Common Tongue in the HV. Besides, if u match it with romanizations in the script you will find that not a single one of his words are incorrect. His rolls on the ''Y'' and ''a''s are fascinating and somehow suits just right for character.
So do not come at him yall, he would not speak if it was not approved by the showrunners, or that he does not roll the accent or forms the sentences in ways that you feel it is incorrect. The showrunners are fools, but they are not THAT big of fools to not review the foreign language speaking with respectable experts.
Even if they ARE fools in this regard too and somehow overlooked certain things, do not blame aemond or Ewan. It is the producers own doing. But i doubt the latter will be the case knowing how concentrated Condal tends to be on small details.

Y’ALL.
I GOT TO WATCH DEADPOOL AND WOLVERINE.
also EPIC spoilers about the movie so here’s your warning and yes i will be ranting on for a very very long time
starting off THAT OPENING SCENE LMAOOOO
WHEN HE STARTED KILLING THE TVA AGENTS WITH LOGANS SPINE AND HEAD 😭 AND THEN HE WAS DANCING I ACTUALLY DIED.
then we got sent back in time and we met HAPPY HOGAN. I WAS TOTALLY NOT EXPECTING TO SEE HIM LIKE THAT WAS TOTALLY UNEXPECTED.
then we got all of those fourth wall jokes and the whole feige/cœcåinę jokes oml. then we got a whole tva thing (that was very inappropriate in more ways than one)
bros stapled hair falls out 😭 and we see a little fake hair stuck to his hair for the whole thing.
he wakes up in the tva and we meet Paradox (aka the worst person ever i absolutely hate him-)
ANYWAY he gives us the whole “matter and be something” spiel (AND WHY WAS THOR CRYING) but wade is like stfu imma go find another logan to be my anchor being
THEN WE GET A MONTAGE OF DIFFERENT LOGAN VARIENTS AND OMG HAHAHHAHAHAHA
first we get comic accurate wolverine BEING SO SHORT HE HAD TO JUMP OFF THE BAR CHAIR 😭
then i think we got the 80s afro wolverine (hilarious)
and then we got the wolverine hulk show down AND WADE GOT FLUNG I LAUGHED SO MUCH HAHA
and then AND THEN. WE GOT HENRY CAVILL WOLVERINE WHICH I NEVER THOUGHT ID SEE IN MY LIFE HAHAHAHHAHAHAHA
then we’re finally met (i think) with our “worst logan in the multiverse” (which is total bs) but we see him wearing his outfit (which i’m pretty sure we’ve never seen hugh jackman wear)
then they get pruned and i was so dam confuzzled. cuz i was like hold up im sorry what
but then we see them appear in the void with 20 CENTURY FOX STATUE AHHAHAHAHAH. THE ANOUNT OF MARVEL, FOX, AND DISNEY JOKES WE GET IN THIS. like when deadpool says “welcome to disney, mr. pg-13 except for one movie” LMAOOOO
we get an epic deadpool vs wolverine fight and we get like a lot of those because they’re not trying to really kill each other and both of them heal super fats so it’s jsut comedy at this point
and now
WE SEE
CHRIS EVANS CAMEO. AND WE FOR SURE THINK THAT ITS A CAPTAIN AMERICA VARIANT. AND WE ALLGET READY FOR AVENGERS ASSEMBLE
and then
and then
WE GET A FLAME ON
when my movie theatre watched this basically everyone was stunned. like we started absolutely going wild.
we see sabretooth, pyro (which i’m pretty sure is the same actor from X2), and toad like hello? i already thought this was crazy. anyway sabretooth gets his head sorta sliced off by wolverine (also why isn’t there a yellow font on tumblr?) anyway
we get a fight and they end up getting captured and get driven to CASSANDRA NOVA. LIKE WHAT. SINCE WHEN WAS CASSANDRA NOVA THE VILLAIN sorta OF THIS. BROIOOOOOOO
she brutally murders our beloved johnny storm after wade said he said a bunch of very odd things about her that was hilarious.
fast forward A LOT we were basically given a bunch of plot advancements and all of that stuff but i don’t want this to be super long so imma cut this short
we get four AWESOME CAMEOS.
ELEKTRA
BLADE
GAMBIT OMG GAMBIT WHOS CHANNING TATUM
AND X-23! LAURA YIPPEEEEEEEEEE
we get these awesome cameos and my movie theatre erupted into wild cheers bc we got the same actors from the original blade and x-23. WE GOT GAMBIT WHO IS LEGIT ONE OF MY FAV MUTANTS. WE GOT ELEKTRA LIKE BRO WHAT
AND WE GOT TBHS THING WITH GAMBIT SAYING ABSOLUTE NONSENSE AND DEADPOOL SAYS, “i’m sorry gorgeous, but i feel like we’re missing some critical exposition. who’s your dialect coach, the MINIONS?” AND I ABSOLUTELY LOST IT THAT WAS SO HILARIOUS AHJHAHHAHA
after this they make some plan about how to get logan and wade back to their (sorta) timeline and go ahead to carry it out. we get an epic “final boss” like fight and cassandra shows that she has a sling ring that seems to be from a dr strange variant with pieces of the reality and time stone (i think).
next we get this whole thing with the 100 or so deadpool’s with blake lively and ryan reynolds’ kids as different variants. and they also snuck in a little stan lee cameo there (miss the legend ❤️)
THEN WE SEE PETERPOOOOL WHO ABSOLUTELY SAVED DEADPOOL AND WOLVERINE A THOUSAND PERCENT.
we have that whole thing with the time ripper and how if a person goes to stop it the anti matter and matter absolutely would rip them apart. we see deadpool make the hero play after stalling for a bit but he couldn’t reach the other side. THEN WOLVERINE STEPS IN AND DOES IT TOO OML (also i’ve noticed i haven’t talked that much about wolverine BUT I PROMISE I LOVE HIM 😭) we get shirtless hugh jackman and everybody in my movie theatre went wild… again. it was SO FUNNY 🤣. we get a whole ending with b-15 as the tva leader sorta. and paradox getting reprimanded as he should and we for sure thought that they’re dead.
NO THEY ARE NOT. they walk in like the queens they are and then that’s basically the ending.
EXCEPT FOR THE EXTRA CREDIT SCENE. then we see that all the things that deadpool accused johnny of saying before he basically got his skin ripped off WERE ACTUALLY TRUE. WE ALL COLLECTIVELY SAID LANGUAGE BECAUSE OML IVE NEVER SEEN CHRIS EVANS SO DIRTY MOUTHER (not me not understanding half the things that he said-)
ANYWAY I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS MOVIE. IT WAS WORTH IT. i noticed cute little easter eggs and the cameos omg the cameos
GO WATCH IT IF YOU HAVENT
bye 👋
*hehe we saw gambit (if you can’t tell i love his character)

Hi!
I'm trying to learn arabic and one of the methods that I've heard works well is engaging in media for target languages. Do tou have any like music or movies or shows you'd recommend?
if you're learning arabic i recommend learning traditional arabic first, before learning specific dialects. cuz like if you learn iraqi dialect and try to talk to me, a palestinian, i'mma be a little lost ngl 😭😭
it's kinda silly but i recommend watching arabic dubbed cartoons!! the arabic cartoon network and other channels use traditional arabic when speaking, and it's really great to listen and learn how traditional arabic is spoken. watching cartoons as i grew up was how i learned to speak, and it helped me broaden my vocabulary. watching shows like the amazing world of gumball, powerpuff girls, etc etc that are dubbed in arabic WILL help you, genuinely. if you find any arabic dub of a show that you like then go ahead and watch it!! i've been trying to find an arabic dub of star wars rebels for months now but i think finding arabic dubs of shows is kinda hard, so i suggest you do some research and find out what shows have dubs or not!
as for music, i recommend looking at the lyrics while you listen. try to read the words as they're coming, even if you don't understand them. if you can properly point out which words go where in the sequence of the lyrics as you're listening, your reading comprehension will improve a lot. try listening to the classics, older arabic and stuff too. the newer stuff has a lot of accents and cultural stuff that you may not understand. listening to older songs is a good starting point.
once you've got a solid handle on arabic, then i'd suggest watching live action shows and movies. whichever dialect you think is most comfortable for you to listen to, pick a show with that one. for some reason a lot of mainstream arabic shows are egyptian, and they have a specific accent that might be a lil confusing to newer speakers, but whatever. just find whatever you're comfortable with and stick with it. i don't have any specific live action arabic shows that i like, just bc i don't watch them bc they're too dramatic for me.
but i hope this helps!

YOOOOO CAN I SLIDE IN A SECOND REQ (TUBMLR MIGHT HAVE EATEN MY FIRST)
So if you know zhongli, can you do yakuza characters from any series with an s/o whos like zhongli(personality wise)
and also they like 2 write poems!!
-ˋˏSINCERELY YOURS. . . ->
Tumblr media
oh, god this ask remind me of the time I was a zhongli simp😨*shudders* ~(>_<。)
Both you and Kiryu have the (not really) same personality and he likes drinking tea with you as the kids play outside, he likes the calm personality you have the the way you talk about history, and he uses the excuse about the "good tea" you blend so you can come and visit him or visit you. Your talent for making poems also makes him very fascinated by you, he can spend hours staring at you while you write the poem, and if you ever read your poem out loud especially if it is a love poem he can't help but imagine your sayings those rhythmic words of affection to him. A man can dream ya know.
You and Majima both contrast, while he speaks in a quick dialect sentence full of slang, you speak in a sophisticated voice, always careful with the words you say. He doesn't like listening to history cuz, why should he, all of them are dead anyway!? So as much as Majima loves (obsessed) with you, he cannot sit his ass down, but he does like it when you talk to him about random stuff like wine (osmanthus wine taste-). When Majima is in a much cooler persona, he would drink tea with you while you write poems even though he's always teasin ya' for being "too cheesy'" in this era, but don't let that stop you though if anyone disrespects his woman then get ready to get ass whopped by the mad dog.
Mine and Daigo would actually love this kind of Darling though. Because both Mine and Daigo's ideal darling is a very comforting one once they lie their eyes on you, you know your fate is shut.
Tbh (Y/N)'s personality reminds me of a "Yamato nadeshiko" aka the "personification of an idealized Japanese woman" and since the personality has been declining in Japan, many people will court or make a move to Y/N and will try to make them their bride…which is very bad if they care about their life… (Imagine a Zhongli-based darling in the Isshin era....+ her harem...(~ ̄▽ ̄)~)

Could u tell/show us more of ur hcs for Abby? She's always been one of my favs
YAH!! I really have to sit and think about this, because sometimes I have headcanons that I forget are Headcanons, you know what I mean?
(haha this turned out to be extremely long so I'm putting in a read more)
Okay- so I think her dad is originally Canadian and is half Cree. Since Cree is named after her voice actress, and her voice actress is named Cree because she is Cree, it makes perfect sense to me. Her dad was living in France for some kind of medical residency situation when he met her mom and they started their family. We know that Abby moved to the United States when she was a couple years old, like Nigel did. The only reason I can think that cree doesn't have a French accent would be that she tries really hard to fit in. But with one north American parent, she probably spent a decent amount of time in the states growing up too.
I think her family is a comfortable upper middle class. I haven't decided what I think her mom does for work. I have a very specific headcanon about her family having a nice finished basement that has gym equipment in it, cuz that's where Abby and wally work out together. Sector V will often have movie nights in Abby's basement too.
This is clear in canon, but she has a great relationship with her parents. Cree does too. Their family situation is complicated since the sisters have so much animosity towards each other but so much respect for their parents and their family in general
Abby IS fluent in French, the whole family is. They visit France to see family about once a year. Abby isn't close friends with Angeline, but because Angeline knows Creole French and has a girlfriend who lives in France, the two have kind of taught each other how to speak the others native dialect of French.
As an adult, Abby is going to start wearing glasses full time. This is a headcanon I forget to implement when I'm drawing her though 😅
In middle school and high school, Abby is an expert at floating around different social circles. She's tight with the popular kids but still has no issues being best friends with the nerds and weirdos (sector v, basically)
Her and Rachel end up becoming close, but in a way that still feels vaguely like a professional relationship. This is because they were both soopreme leaders at certain points and they both deal with a lot of social pressure. As adults, they have a new kind of professional relationship because they both become the core of Nigel's support system when he's in prison. Rachel becomes his lawyer as soon as she's able to and she works closely with Abby, since she's his best friend and a social worker (not HIS social worker, but she still brings her knowledge to his case)
After turning 13, Abby and Nigel become teen operatives. When Abby is soopreme leader, she abolishes decommissioning. In my adult AU, the divergence point is the teen-kid treaty from operation TREATY. Basically, the treaty goes well instead of...going horribly. As a result, the GKND doesn't target earth in the same way, and decommissioning becomes unnecessary. The hard line between kid and adult was a huge reason that "adulthood" was such a problem on earth. Wally, hoagie and Kuki stop being field operatives as teenagers (they still do some stuff for the knd, but to a lesser extent), whereas Abby and Nigel become a hardcore undercover duo.
Abby is very busy during her teen years. Shes in the top of her class and does a few extra curriculars. She also tutors Wally and is the biggest support he has in terms of school. She gets into a good college and pursues social work. I don't think she stays in that career forever though, because she needs to chill out at some point.
There's eventually a huge scandal regarding Father's business practices which culminates in his arrest. When this happens, the DCFDTL enter the foster care system and Abby takes on their case personally, feeling a sense of obligation to help them. As I've said before, I headcanon that the DCFDTL cannot age. At this point however, I haven't worked out the kinks yet, but they're able to start aging again. For reasons.
Abby has a tumultuous relationship with Henrietta in middle and high school that ends with a very messy break up. While I'm grad school, Abby and Hoagie become each others biggest support and hang out all the time, which is how their romantic relationship develops. They get married and have two kids, Naomi and Hogarth (Garth) the Third.
I HAVE MORE TO SAY BUT Y'KNOW WHAT...this is getting out of hand so I'm going to stop. If anyone has more specific questions about Abby feel free to ask!

Magi: Judar + JuAli Rambles 🖤❤️💛🐈‍⬛☀️
Tumblr media
Hi! I’ll be writing my reaction rambles after reading a few Magi volumes in JP.
Thanks to Bas, the leader of the fan-scanlation group Project Vinland, and a mutual of mine who’s big in the scanlation community, I got access to Magi’s JP Raws.
Viz’s official English translation of Magi is fine for the most part, in terms of translation quality.
I’ll be putting Sense Scans’ EN fan-TL and Viz’s EN official TL here for reference.
Since I don’t see the need to re-translate lines that both the fan-TL and official TL already translated correctly.
I love the prose that Sense Scans uses in their Magi fan-scanlation.
For certain lines, though, I’ll also be putting the literal translation (from my head).
My beloved JuAli 🖤❤️💛🐈‍⬛☀️
Wanted to ramble about them!
Tumblr media
Judar’s pronouns
俺 (Ore, “I”) - Casual, informal, rude. Mainly used by men.
お前/おまえ (Omae, “You”) - Casual, informal, rude. Mainly used by men.
Notes:
Judar’s first-person pronoun is 俺 (Ore, “I”). Judar’s second-person pronouns is おまえ (Omae, “You”)
Judar uses the very casual and informal, rude, masculine pronouns 俺 (Ore, “I”) and おまえ (Omae, “You”). He uses the kanji version of 俺 (Ore, “I") as his first-person pronoun, and interchangeably uses the kanji and hiragana versions of お前/おまえ (Omae, “You”) as his second-person pronoun.
He speaks pretty casually and informally. He uses colloquial particles (shortens verb conjugation endings) sometimes.
Extra Notes:
In “Role Language” (役割語, Yakuwarigo), fictional characters’ dialects — the usage of pronouns, particles, etc., conveys character traits such as gender, age, class, and levels of formality, etc.
俺/おれ/オレ (Ore) is an informal first-person pronoun, and very rough version of “I” almost exclusively used by males in casual (informal) situations.
俺 (Ore) tends to be used by characters who are very rough, casual, vulgar, sleazy, in a position of power, and/or, just very manly/masculine.
お前/おまえ/オマエ (Omae) is a very rough second-person pronoun for “You” usually used by males in casual (informal) situations. Usually only used between close friends IRL. It has an aggressive and rude edge when not used between friends. Also used to speak down to others from a higher position.
Arrogant characters (including arrogant royals), tend to lean into using more rough, casual masc pronouns such as 俺 (Ore) and お前 (Omae), such as Xanxus (KHR), Kuroha/Saeru (KagePro), Judar (Magi), Edward (ROTRK), Vegeta (DBZ), Enzan (MMBN/EXE), etc., since they’re in positions of authority and/or high status, and look down on others.
Many of my favourite characters, such as Judar (Magi), Xanxus (KHR), Kuroha (KagePro), Enzan (MMBN/EXE), Edward (ROTRK), and many more, have very rough and masculine speech patterns in JP. All of the characters I listed here also use 俺 (Ore) and お前 (Omae) as their main pronouns.
It’s very typical of rude and arrogant masc characters to lean into using them. Characters who are casual/informal and masculine in general, also tend to lean into using them.
Whether a character uses the kanji or hiragana or katakana versions (or combination) as their pronouns could be used to give off a certain nuance. But it depends on the character and context.
(I actually copied these notes from my XanLena dialogue scripts cuz I don’t feel like writing all of that again. I’ll post more of my KHR AU stuff reventually!)
How he refers to others:
Alibaba:
アリババくん (Alibaba-kun, “Alibaba”)
アリババ (Alibaba, “Alibaba”)
ハニワ (Haniwa, “Clay doll”)
Sinbad:
シンドバッド (Shindobaddo, “Sinbad”)
バカ殿 (Baka tono, “Idiot king”)
Note: 殿 (tono, “feudal lord”)
Hakuryuu:
白龍 (Hakuryuu, “Hakuryuu”)
Aladdin:
アラジン (Arajin, “Aladdin”)
Judar's Usage of Particles:
の (no) - Sentence ending particle. Can be used to soften a sentence.
な/なあ (na/naa) - Sentence ending particle. Masculine, usually used by men.
ね/ねえ (ne/nee) - Sentence ending particle. Can be used to soften a sentence. [X]
よ (yo) - Sentence ending particle. Often used to soften a sentence.
ぜ (ze) - Sentence ending particle. Rude, rough, informal, masculine, used to add emphasis. Slightly softer than the sentence ending particle ぞ (zo). Usually used by men.
んだ (nda) - Sentence ending particle, used to add emphasis. Casual/informal version.
んだよ (nda yo) - See above, but it adds the nuance of trying to give a new perspective to the listener that they don’t have. [X]
だ (da) - Sentence ending particle. Masculine, forceful, used for emphasis.
だろ (daro) - Sentence ending particle. Masculine, forceful, used for emphasis.
じゃん (Jyan) - Casual colloquial of じゃない (Jyanai) → Has the nuance of “Isn’t it?” and “Actually.” Makes the sentence softer.
Ex. いるんだ (irunda)
んだ (nda) has a casual nuance. He uses colloquial particles.
Not a comprehensive list, but ones I’ve noticed so far. I’ll probably edit the section about his usage of particles later since I still need to check them
Judar often shortens verb conjugations in his casual/informal speech style.
Characters like Judar, Xanxus, (and Enzan occasionally) use shortened verb conjugations, colloquials (casual forms) of verbs. This is very typically masc. Rougher masc charas often do this
Ex.
いらない (Iranai, "Don't need/want [it]") (Plain negative form) → Iran or Iranee (いらん/いらねえ, “Don’t need/want [it]”) (Shortened casual/informal negative form)
いらない (Iranai) → いらん/いらねえ (Iran/Iranee)

Official TL (Viz)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I get both JuAli and AliHaku crumbs from Judar’s monologue about Alibaba. Isn’t that amazing? ^v^
I already talked about this scene plenty before, so I won't copy paste the same rambles from before.
Fan-TL is spot on with this ^^
Viz removes the first mention of "Charmed/Attracted" in the 1st page, but at least keeps it in the 2nd page.
I think the gist is kept, but the original and fan-TL are more explicit and obvious about it.
"That's right, what about Alibaba charmed them so much to make them so fixated with him?"
...
I noticed that in the last sentence, Judar's 何 (nani, "what") has a dot in place of furigana (characters that denote the pronunciation of a word, or add a certain nuance to the text).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is called 圏点 (kenten, "emphasis mark") or 傍点 (bouten, "emphasis mark").
This is used for emphasis, similar to how English uses underlines or italics or bold for emphasis.
It has an emphatic nuance. It's used to add emphasis on a word. Typical manga fonts used in official localizations have all words in capital letters, so Ig in this case, bold or italics could convey this kind of nuance.
...
The equivalent in English would be something like this:
Judar: That's right, just WHAT about Alibaba charmed Aladdin and Hakuryuu enough to make them so fixated with him?
Or this
Judar: That's right, just what about Alibaba charmed Aladdin and Hakuryuu enough to make them so fixated with him?
Or this
Judar: That's right, just what about Alibaba charmed Aladdin and Hakuryuu enough to make them so fixated with him?
Or this
Judar: That's right, just what about Alibaba charmed Aladdin and Hakuryuu enough to make them so fixated with him?
...
Oooooh you're stumped by it!!!
Alibaba's charm points of what drew others to him...
You wanna know so bad, huh?
I think I got more to say in general about this scene, but I wrote enough for now ^^
You already get the point
Other Notes
Me: Some of Viz’s spellings are just weird to me, like them translating Magnostadt as a direct romanization → Magnoshutatt
Magnostadt (マグノシュタット, Magunoshutatto)
For some reason???
...
Friend: God bless you Sen 😭💓💓 This is all really fascinating to read
Me: You're welcome! English is so BORING to me as a language when it comes to things like this, because everyone sounds the same. You're either normal or you're cowboy. Yeehaw /lh
I love how languages like Vietnamese and Japanese can express things like character traits and personality, etc., in speech. How it can convey the "vibes" that a character gives off right away, just from their speech style/patterns.
Vietnam has a lot of dialects and speech quirks! The main ones are the North, South, and Central Vietnamese dialects. And they have many variants depending on the area
Yakuwarigo ("Role Language"), fictional characters' dialects/speech styles in Japanese, is SOOO interesting, and English doesn't have a proper equivalent for it.
This is part of why I wanted to learn Japanese. THIS conveys things like character traits and different speech styles SO MUCH more.
Also keep in mind that I’m doing these quick literal TLs quickly based on my interpretation of the text, and that I’m still learning JP so I can make mistakes 🙏
If you notice any, feel free to correct me!

Japanese particles
Do note that Role Language in fiction can differ partially and/or a lot from usage in IRL contexts.
In fictional characters’ dialects, 貴方/あなた (Anata, “You”) is considered a neutral or polite/formal pronoun (depending on the context)
IRL, it’s rude to call someone with 貴方/あなた (Anata, “You”) because “it sounds accusatory to pound the listener with ‘You’ every sentence”

hi 👀
i havent decided yet what culture i want the genie dca to come from but if you would like to infodump about arabian or persian clothing (both royal and commoner wear) i am all ears
hmmmm
Okay, I don't really know too much abt clothing (unfortunately not much of a historical expert), but here's what I can tell you:
as said before, clothing typically depends on the region and the culture/ religon of the place, as well as the place in society
So, as said before, higher class is gonna wear brighter colors (ex: purples, greens, blues, bright yellows) with complex designs, while commoners wear duller colors (browns, creams, whites, some dull greens or yellows, a few blues) with more plain fabrics
I think I mentioned fabric type earlier, but here it is again: silks and satin were reserved for the more wealthy, while commoners typically just stuck to cotton
Richer people wore LOTS of jewelry. Gold chains with patterns of stones, large necklaces with jewels hanging off of them, bracelets that jingle with every movement...style depends on the place. A lot of places like to incorporate eyes into jewelry and decor, so that's a place to start. Simple bead bracelets can have engravings with arabic text. Beads can be huge or small and simple. Kohl ( an eyeliner) is pretty popular, as is henna in a a lot of places. Henna art can usually be done on the hands and arms.
If you're trying to find a country to base it in, I'd recommend doing your own additional research in case. I'd suggest going with somewhere further out from the heart of the Middle East. So think more northwest: Turkey or Syria or maybe Iran (Persia in the olden days), as opposed to Saudi Arabia or Iraq or Egypt. Based on your genie design, I'd assume it'd probably be largely influenced by Indian culture, though you'd have to ask someone more knowledgeable about that. So maybe around or closer to those regions?
If you're wondering about hijabs and veils, not everyone necessarily wore a hijab, though it really depends on the era. If you're asking for religious sides, Islam claims that hijabs were a must from the beginning. History (which I've found some Islamic scholars do in fact agree with on this) says that hijab was actually later introduced as a cultural thing, and started out more as, again, an upper class thing. Women of high standing wore thin veils of silk and satin. This was around 62o-630 CE, I'd say, though, again, I'm not too sure.
Main language would probably be Arabic, although really it was a mix. To be on the safer side, you should probably just stick to English, cuz even among Arabs we struggle to figure out what different people are saying. The language depends on the region and dialect (Ex: people from Egypt and Lebanon are said to be softer with their pronunciation of things, while Iraqis and Kuwaitis are a bit rougher with pronunciation). A single word can have multiple meanings depending on the place you're at, and some dialects have words that technically don't even exist. (Ex: Iraqis refer to tissues as specifically 'Kleenex' because that's the most well known company. Then again, this could just be among my extended relatives, so take this with a grain of salt.)
In terms of clothing styles and choices:
For women, it's gonna be a biiit more modest in some regions as opposed to others. Some places refuse to show a singular inch of skin, while others are pretty lenient. It again, really depends on where you're at. If you're not exactly sure where you wanna place it and want to do what the movie did and make up a place, I'd suggest covering up most stuff, arms, legs, shoulders, etc. Pants and dresses are pretty much interchangeable.
For men...I wouldn't really know, actually. Modern day they don't really care and tend to just wear the typical t-shirts and jeans in some parts, or something a bit more traditional. I guess it was pretty long robe, if you want to think of it like that? They covered up, too, though for a different reason (prob the heat).
If you want to add in a Jasmine, I could give you a small bit of info on rights of the time. Women could hold positions in financing (it is pretty well known that the first wife of Muhammad [Islamic prophet] was a businesswoman and a merchant herself), as well as own and sell property. I'm not too sure if they could hold high positions in government in some places, though in others there were females who did go into battle or become sultanas. In history it is known that many people were ashamed to have daughters and sometimes buried them alive, though this supposedly changed after Islam was spread (whether or not this is true I'm not sure). Slaves were still a thing and continued to be a thing, although during the khalifa it was said that you couldn't enslave a Muslim. Most people don't believe this to be true and say that slavery was completely wiped out after the introduction of Islam, so I'd just be careful about this topic because it kinda depends on who you ask.
In terms of clothing patterns, vines and flowers were pretty popular, as well as this one textile thing I dunno how to describe...if you've seen Persian rugs than it looks similar to those. It's very geometric based, too. Here's a picture to get the idea tho:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
....Okay just look up Persian rug and you'll get the idea, I dunno how else to explain it.
Sorry if this wasn't very helpful, I kinda had to rush it cuz I have a lot of stuff to catch up on. Hope this did something, tho!

🫁👛🦇🪱🐞🪓
FOR EVERETT
-alsoaskingforafriendishesingle-
🫁 yuri or yaoi?
yaoi. have you SEEN the size of his hands
👛 what is always with this character?
his latest-model iphone, his extremely expensive sunglasses, his little vial that's chock full of human souls,
🦇 biggest material fear (ie heights, bugs etc)
holy water (demon hurting juice) (he got hit with a super soaker full of the stuff once)
🪱 would this character move a worm off the pavement or save it?
i genuinely don't know if he's ever thought twice about seeing a worm on the pavement. he wouldn't save a human being from a meat grinder either
🐞 does this character have any notable accent or dialect? what about other languages?
he originally had a really thick chicagoan accent, but that's not an accent that i can do with any sort of consistency, so... i guess not really??? he probably knows a fair number of languages, but to what extent i dunno!
🪓 would they make it to the end in a horror movie?
depends entirely what kind of horror movie, because he's 100% the monster/killer lmao
is he single: yeah but he'll make you sign a contract relinquishing your soul over to him first. so if that's not a dealbreaker, go for it

hi niki :) I love your translations, thank you so much for sharing them with us ❤
I was wondering which of the three (ikevil, ikegen, and koibaku) you find the easiest/hardest to translate? Because I'm practising to read Japanese and so far I'm finding koibaku to be the easiest to read and ikevil a bit difficult.. I've been meaning to start ikegen but I'm worried if I'll have a hard time reading through..
hi anon :D
i can't speak for everyone but this is my personal experience – as of now i also find koibaku the easiest to read but that could be because i haven't read beyond the prologue 🤧
ikevil and ikegen are on the same "level" for me. while i can read and understand most words and phrases on my own, i'll encounter new stuff or unfamiliar ones (aka i've seen before but forgot or still don't get it) so i have to search it up a lot to learn the meaning, how it's used in different contexts etc. then try to commit them to memory.
i think the only tricky parts of ikegen for me were the terms from japanese mythology because it's not an area i'm familiar with. tho i had a lot of fun learning about those, spending hours looking at the different mythologies they have and being distracted from the story AHEM ; and for ikevil i struggle with jude's dialect ... a lot
anyway imo if you can read ikevil then ikegen shouldn't be tooooooo big of a problem. it's ok to need a dictionary by your side or do some / lotsa googling to learn and understand new things cuz that's what makes learning fun 🤭
