day 46 - 2/15/24 - teeth missiles

i wanted to give it some particularly shiny scales in some spots, but i couldn't figure out how to mane it look good. you can still see remnants of it on the tail though

honestly even the regular patches of scales don't look all that good that's gonna be something i have to work on. i'm still very happy with this guy though. look at those smoke trails on the missiles! so cool! i figured that out by myself! who needs art tutorials!

the man below him has spattered blood, and teeth in the dirt, and he was still laughing. he was still sputtering out taunts, wild eyes hateful, unnatural among all the red, ( ' you know your little friend? she cried when i killed her. she begged me to put her out of her misery. it's something distant, at first. a voice calling his name in spite of clapped, tinnitus-pierced hearing. ' leland, leland! that's enough ' suddenly julie is right there; ❝ told you to run — ❞ he says, low and far-away, and not for one second taking his eyes off the man choking out insults below him. her hand is on his shoulder, and he feels like he swallows ice water at once, forced to be present in this moment. her arms around his middle, white-knuckle grip around his arm, trying to pull him back, trying to pull him off the monster that had just terrorized his friends.

❝ he deserves to die — ❞ he snarls between his teeth, fist reeling back again — and this time she catches his wrist, before he can swing again. and this time he stills. could break out of julie's grip easily, if he wanted to. and he can't feel it, how bad he's hurt himself throwing punch after punch at this jackal-smile son-of-a-bitch, the singular object of his wrath. he hadn't noticed how much red soaked the dirt.

❝ julie... he deserves — ❞ suddenly his vision is swooping — eyes closing against the pulsing return of that concussive ache in his skull. he doesn't drop his fist, he doesn't take his hand off johnny slaughter's throat. his rage is like a lifeline, all he can see, all he wants to see, in that moment. ❝ l-look at what he did to maria! look at what he tried to do to you, to connie! ❞ his grip tightens, shoving johnny into the dirt harder, and hearing him gurgle a horrible laugh. leland still can't look at julie; ❝ he deserves to die. ❞

You spend the rest of the night running around a strange town desperately trying to find someone to put your teeth back while your teeth keep falling out and you're holding them in your hands and trying not to lose them. You're trapped inside your body behind bare bloody gums, afraid to open your mouth when you talk to people. Nobody can help. Instead of horror you feel resigned to this fate. Your best hope is to get dentures and now your grandma is disappointed in you because she hates her own dentures.

i had a dream that one of my molars fell out unprompted and i felt another tooth loosening. i started to panic and put it in a bag full of water because i heard that doing so could help preserve it and allow it to be re-attached. i tried to call my dentist but it was after hours so they wouldnt pick up

Scheduling a needed dentist appointment despite having hangups from that time I got my wisdom teeth out with insufficient local anesthetic (bad).

Update: I actually did this AND told them about my prior issues with anesthetic. Advocating for self good.

my mom can spend close to $1000 for my brother and i to have universal passes without batting an eye, she can spend definitely over $3000 for my brother to get an old miata that he took apart and left undrivable in the driveway, but i need just under $800 for a root canal i definitely DON’T want to get and suddenly it’s too much money, she won’t have anything left, etc. suddenly i’m seemingly an asshole for needing a painful procedure at a place that has genuinely traumatized me.

So I Had A Traumatic Medical Experience Today

I had a small cavity on my wisdom tooth and they asked if I wanted a filling or an extraction, and I picked filling. And today when I came back for a filling, they were like "it's gonna be really hard to get back there for a filling, why don't we just extract it?" And like...

They did not reschedule this procedure for another day, which is the MINIMUM they should have done, rather than springing a non-urgent dental surgery on me

They barely gave me any counseling on post-op care. Like, just handed me a generic sheet of info (which references things like post-op follow up and prescription mouth rinse, which they didn't schedule me for or give me so does this apply to me?). Didn't even TELL ME basic shit about not using straws, I asked about that bc I've heard about it and she was like "oh yeah don't do that for a couple days"

Didn't even give me anything for the extraction? They just numbed the gum area and pulled the tooth while I cried and squeezed the hygienist's hand??

Afterwards, to make me ""feel better"" the dentist joked "congrats, it's a girl, what are you gonna name it!!" while I was actively crying, and like As A Queer Person Who Hates the Thought of Pregnancy, joking about me giving birth was not comforting or appropriate

Jotted the OTC instructions on a post-it and I don't even understand the instructions because I was in a daze. And like, I was clearly just clocked out and not absorbing, and they should absolutely be able to notice those signs in a patient, but they just shuffled me out the door like that

I was so not prepared, like I didn't even HAVE soft foods at home because I didn't know this was happening and couldn't prepare

They also had the front desk person bring over the consent form while I was already sitting back in the dentist chair, with my mouth already numb, which is so not the appropriate setting for a patient to review and sign paperwork

It was also fucking expensive, so like great I had to shell out for this awful non-urgent experience too

I'm fortunate that I work in the medical sphere and have the language to even identify what they did wrong and could reach out to colleagues for advice and have excellent friends who'll get me soft food and let me cry at them. I WILL be emailing them, from my work email address, about all the ways this is NOT acceptable practice (NO shared decision making, minimal counseling on post-op care).

When I compare it to the level of support and guidance and help and resources that I was given for top surgery, I'm genuinely appalled. Top surgery was AMAZING and I had no fear before the procedure and felt safe and cared for after. Currently the doctors who gave me that excellent gender-affirming care are getting barraged with death threats from right-wing nutjobs who think providing care to trans people is a horrible crime and tragedy. Meanwhile here's a dentist offering no support, guidance, or agency and traumatizing a patient in the process.

like. what the fuck. I should not have had dental surgery sprung on me like this.
