Did you see this article? I am so devastated by the destruction that has happened in Dadia. It's so horrible a part of me cannot even process it :((
You know, I have stopped talking about this because it affects me. It gets to my well-being. On one hand the pain is so great, on the other hand I feel like we should be punished for all our political choices, all our problematic mindsets and indifference and chaotic selfish attitude and lack of organisation and foresight and poor system of justice that count decades at this point. We need the punishment until the lesson gets learned. At the same time, if I think about it, my eyes water about the forest and the animals and all the people living near it or holding it close to their hearts.
The national woodland of Dadia has been burning for 13 days now. The professor of forest studies in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki has warned that the forest will need 100-150 years to return to its original form, so none of us will live to see it. Some won't see it again like they once did and the rest won't ever see what it was like. Dadia was one of Europe's most important ecosystems, being home to many endangered bird species, especially super rare vultures. We have no idea what happened to them. Either they are dead or they will never return.
Dadia was the pride of the region of Evros. It's gone. Estimations are that 150,000 hectares are gone and we keep going. The fire has been characterised as officially the worst fire in the history of the European Union.
And we generally lose 75,000 hectares every year, most of the animals living in them and 9 people on average. Where is this gonna go? We're not a big country. Not that being a big country would make this better in any way but still. This is not an one time thing. This has become systemic at this point and nobody does anything about it. We can not afford it financially, environmentally, emotionally, mentally. We can't.
And again. 90% OF IT IS NOT DUE TO CLIMATE CHANGE. IT'S EITHER ORGANISED CRIME OR WIDE INDEPENDENT CRIMINAL ACTIVITY. It is getting confirmed and proved again and again. At this point it is even admitted by the Greek government. Dadia in particular was targeted last year as well. Climate change can't always happen in Dadia every year, the northernmost and thus a humid and cold region compared to the average of the country!!!!
And yet the Greek state sits and watches. We must always remember that the Greek state for some reason dismantled the Firefighting sector of the Forest Service in the 90s and has made the standard city firefighting service responsible for forest fires. We are the only country with flammable ecosystems like ours that does this globally. And despite what happens every year, we do not correct this.
And you know the most maddening stuff. We have a lot of personell and we also spend more money than the average for the firefighting expenditures!!!!!!!!!!!! About 1.5 billion every year and we are the worst at it in Europe. Like... I can't make coherent thoughts anymore.
I can't talk about this more right now, I am sorry. Nothing I can say will make any difference anyway. The only thing I can hope and pray for is that speculations and predictions will prove to be pessimistic as nature is always so much stronger and resourceful than we are.

The Scholomance Series
Fantasy series about a magic school that few students escape alive Since I started listening to audiobooks about four and a half years ago as motivation to go to the gym and go running, I’ve made it through almost 50 books – over 420 hours of listening! However, shortly before I started listening to this series, I found out that I’m having a baby, and even though I did a few more Parkruns, I got…

An excellent ending to The Scholomance Series. I'll miss you El Higgins, you and your sharp pointed exterior combined with such a (reluctantly) soft center. Naomi Novik does the good work again.

It was date night…well as close to date night as was possible of you and the King of the Devildom. You could feel yourself slipping a bit, but tried pushing it off for a while since you didn’t always get much time with your boyfriend. Sure, Lucifer and Barbados were there and they were well aware of your little space, but a meeting was going on. Now was not the time to be little!
You weren’t able to pay attention anymore, and played with your food with the fork in your hand. The colors of the food were so silly! The greens and browns making a funny color and the cream of the others…maybe now was the time for an art project. You were so focused on making a little drawing with your food you didn’t hear everyone stop talking to look and see what you were doing. Lucifer looked like he knew it was time to go, and nodded once Diavolo waved him away.
Lucifer stopped by you and patted your shoulder a couple times, and that got your attention. You looked up and saw Barbados trying to hide his laughter, and Dia was looking at you as if you were his whole world. It made you smile back, but then your small bit of big-brain was rearing its head. “I’m sorry daDIA!” You tried to catch yourself but it was too late. Instead it made a funny word, which made you and the two demons laugh. Even Barbados was laughing, which he didn’t do often.
“I’ll be taking my leave, then, young master. We can discuss the meeting in the morning.” He waved at you and left, leaving you and Diavolo alone in the dining room. His head rested in his hand as he idly swung his fork in his hand, not caring much about the food anymore. You always were his main priority, but Barbados usually made him focus and discuss his duties as the king.
“I sorry…I didn’t mean to…” You couldn’t think of the word, and started to feel bad for putting a halt to their meeting. You looked down at your masterpiece of food, and avoided eye contact with him. But it wouldn’t work for long, he always had a way to draw you to his eyes. Just as he did now.
As silent as could be, he strolled over to look over your shoulder at your artwork. “It’s beautiful! It’s…a cat? And a house?” He tilted his head and looked deep in thought, trying to figure it out. That look always made you giggle, and you leaned up to pull him down so his head was on your shoulder. Even little, you knew your strength was no match for him. But he’d play along every time.
“Nu uh! It us and the castle!” You pointed, and giggled even harder when he placed random kisses on your shoulder and neck. “Daddy! Stop it! It tickles!” But he did far from stop. Instead he picked you up with ease and cradled you to his side. You tried to get back at him, and place kisses where you could reach.
“You deserve all the kisses I have to offer ten fold!” He held you out in front of him, and looked serious which only made you giggle more after hearing such an affectionate declaration. “But…I have a request for you.” He leaned forward and booped your nose with his and held it there. “Can you…call me that again?”
Now you were just confused. “Daddy?” You pouted and said, “I calls you daddy all the time!” If you could cross your arms while he was holding you like this he would. Instead you pouted and waited for him to reply, mirroring his serious gaze to the best of your abilities with that pout still on your face.
“No, no. Your little mistake. It was cute, I just want to hear it again.” He hummed and looked at you, waiting for you to remember. If you even did. He would sit there and wait for as long as it took, but the slip up was so cute and did still sound like his “name”. Both of them. A name he’d want to hear you say time and time again.
“Uh…” You thought long and hard before making an “A-HAH!” Sound and smile as wide as you could “DaDia!” You laughed as he spun you around, laughing even louder than you somehow. It was so silly, but oh so cute. Just spinning around until you begin to feel dizzy.
“That’s it! That’s what you should call me!” He stopped when you looked a little paler. “Oh! Sorry dear!” He sat right on the floor where you had spun just prior. “I got a little excited there!” He sat you in his lap, holding you firmly in his grasp. “Say it…just one more time?” This time he pouted childishly, which was extremely funny in this situation to you, so you laughed of course. “Pleeeeeease?”
“DaDia! DaDia!” You laughed loudly, and he joined in as well. “I love my DaDia!” You reached for his face and made the smile he already had wider. Your laugh was like music to his ears and he reached for your face right back as you both made each other smile through the laughter.
After a while, you were feeling tired and let out a big yawn. “Oh? Getting tired from all the fun we’ve been having?” He laid down there, right on the floor and pulled you on top of him. He closed his eyes and you giggled at how silly and fun he could be. “Sleep well, dear.” He faked snoring and you laughed.
“Nooo! DaDia! Bed! Bed time!” Trying to tell him you wanna sleep in the bed as you laughed. You poked his face as he continued to “snore” and he opened one eye.
“Oh? Morning already? There’s a lot we have to do today!” He sat up and winked at you, only to continue when you pouted, “I know, I know dear. I wouldn’t dare make you sleep on the floor.” He stood with ease, carrying you in his arms to your bedroom. “I suppose a nap won’t hurt, but not for too long! Don’t want you to stay awake all night before bed!”
As you laid down, and he followed, he held you close. He was ready for a nap, himself. Even if he didn’t NEED to sleep, he wouldn’t miss cuddling with you for anything. Just as you liked it, he wrapped his wings around you to feel even closer to you. As he tended to do, he whispered a story to you until you fell asleep, and whispered your favorite words to hear from him as sleep overcame you.
“I love you so much baby.”

Words a state owned journalist said in state owned TV:
The only positive, is that we haven't mourned human life, apart from the poor 18 people that lost their lives in the Dadias forest.
If that sounds like immigrants' lives are being separated as less important than Greek ones is because that's literally what's happening.
Oh, it doesn't sound like that? I'm looking too deep into it?
Do add the fact that 13 immigrants were fucking locked up in a trailer by 3 civilians as a "retaliation" for the fires. Comments in that video included: "burn them", "drive the trailer in the sea", "close the camera and make them feel pain". Add the fact that the far right (accounting for over 10% of the parliament) is straight up saying that the fires were started by immigrants and "strangers" (<- basically how Greeks say "aliens") and that "we are at war (with immigrants)". Add the fact that there have been at least two recorded instances of Greek forces either straight up sinking or not helping sinking ships carrying immigrants throughout Greek waters.
Does it sound like that now?
Are we seeing the pattern yet? Are we seeing that this country is becoming more and more unapologetically racist and is placing ranks of importance on how they value human life?
Are we seeing that while it hasn't been as visible as Italy straight up electing a far right party, Greece is —politically and more importantly, culturally— going further and further to the extreme right?

With the last chapter that came out and Al the plushia content going around, I just had a thought of plushia trying to comfort corrupt copia. I don’t think Popia wouldnt take well to it though 💀
i love this one so much?? holy fuck
Corrupt Copia in my Luce Perduta AU with Plushia
Possible hurt but mostly comfort . Also surprise! as i invite @grace-the-writing-ace for this one . They will do their part later :3 be sure to check em out they're greater writer than i am lol
Dark
almost as if all the lights in the room dissipated, saved for only the stars in the sky through the window.
The King sized bed felt empty as Copia lays motionless on his side of the mattress, fingers intertwined within themselves on his stomach. A gleam of the wedding ring gem ,almost dull in the dark. Even it has lost its spark.
He did not take off his paint that night. Smudges of black  streamlined down his face , evidence of his sobbing earlier. Terzo, possibly gone. Ran off- no, he was possibly taken. Yes he was taken from him that night after dinner. His temple throbs thinking of what needs to be done to find him back. and he knows exactly where to find him .
But the idea that Terzo had left him , after all that he did. After all the sacrifices he made , he was hurting others including his own self as well. But he could have never ever  hurt Terzo. Not his amore.
The bed barely budges as a pair of plush legs moves across from the pillow towards Terzo’s side , he looks at the empty space as if puzzled, wondering where did his other father went. Slowly he climbs up on Terzo’s pillow, hugging it while looking at the grieving man. Copia turns to watch him with glassy eyes. The poor plushie didn’t know after all. It’s just confused, where is he? Where is his Dadia? Slowly Copia outstretch an arm towards it, beckoning it to come closer. Plushia did as so, sliding off the pillow and waddling towards him. The small thing places its hand on Copia's arm, squeaking lightly.
''My topolino...am I doing the right thing? all this time?'' Copia turns to him, his eyebrows furrowing.
Plushia didnt say a word, he watches back with glassy eyes as he continues to pat him. He knows that something is wrong. His Papa is crying, why is he sad?
Copia slowly brings him into his arms, hugging and sobbing into the plush toy.
''I just want us back...I just want him back Topo... I miss him already'' He curls himself on the bed, the silk sheen and the pillow besides him smelling of Terzo's musk only makes him sobs harder.
Plushia squeaks again in a reassuring coo. He hugs back with his small tiny arms. Nothing hurts the little one than seeing his Papa cry.
''You understand little one..I know you do...I'm so glad to have you..at least'' He sniffles for a moment before kissing the other's head.
Plushia looks solemnly at him before nodding. He leans in kissing away the stray tears before nuzzling into the others neck. Copia holds him protectively, curling up again tight as a ball.
''Papa will never let anybody take you away, topolino''

The Prosecutor of the Greek Supreme Court, Georgia Adeilini, has ordered a probe into the wildfires in Alexandroupolis, Evros and also into suspected racist violence against 25 migrants from Syria and Pakistan who were illegally detained in a car trailer.
For the fifth day, the operations of the Fire Department continue in Evros on two fronts, in Alexandroupolis and the forest of Dadia, where on Tuesday, 18 people were found dead and burned. Fires are also ongoing in other areas of the country, in Aspropyrgos, Rodopi, Fthiotida, Boeotia, as well as in the Parnitha forest mountain range north of Athens.
The 18 dead bodies were found charred near the village of Avantas, in the forest of Dadia. Among them were two children. The coroner of Alexandroupolis, Pavlos Pavlidis, who examined the bodies, told Athens-Macedonia News Agency that the police had told him that the area is a known passageway for illegal migrants. Meanwhile, no local residents were reported missing, reinforcing authorities suspicion that the dead bodies belong to migrants.
“It causes unspeakable sadness that many people were found charred in the forest of Dadia, probably, according to electronic press reports, migrants, usually victims of illegal traffickers,” said Adeilini, who called for a probe into a possible racist violent incident.
A video released Tuesday on Greek social networks meanwhile showed a man opening his car trailer and showing people locked inside there. He disparagingly calls them “pieces”, accuses them of starting the fires in Evros, and calls for a pogrom.
Greek police announced that they had arrested a foreign national and his two Greek associates. They noted that during August, on average, on the Evros, they prevented around 900 illegal entries into Greece per day and arrested hundreds of traffickers, stressing that “Greece is a state of law, with a strong democratic acquis and humanitarian tradition. Self-righteousness is not tolerated in any form”.
The Supreme Court’s investigation into the fire in Alexadroupoli concerns a series of serious offenses, such as the possible formation, membership, and management of a criminal organization, violence and exposure to danger.
The wildfires in Greece from August 19-21 have already burned over 400,000 acres, reported media outlet Kathimerini. Analysis of satellite data of the National Observatory of Athens shows that 380,000 acres in Evros, 30,000 acres in Rhodope, 12,000 acres in Boeotia, 8,000 acres in Kythnos island, and 5,000 acres in Psachna, Evoia island were burned.

This week's newsletter from AthensLive is out:
Our heart mourns the country’s lost beauty
The PM vanishes
Will we finally face the elephant in the room?
We had hoped we wouldn’t need to write another newsletter about wildfires—at least not this year. Yet, here we are, with (the other) half of Greece burning, including critical protected areas like Dadia and Parnitha Forests National Parks. Some 21 people died from the fires, and many properties were destroyed.
Like this was not enough, there has been an orchestrated effort for the wildfires to attribute the tragedy to migrants, even if the wildfires killed them.
Consequently, we witnessed groups of ‘vigilantes’ in the Evros region, bordering Turkey, organizing ‘headhunters’ patrols for migrants/refugees and capturing them like animals in a closed wagon.
Aren’t the above news cornerstones of fascism?
It cannot be recommended strongly enough to read and share this week's updates on the events and developments in Greece here: https://steadyhq.com/en/athenslivegr/posts/017dfa04-fa19-4d98-a671-72149d9a0318
For anyone with a wish or need to follow and to gain an insight into recent events in Greece and to read and support independent and investigative journalism in English, the weekly newsletter from AthensLive should be a core element in the reading flow.
If you want the best overview of the events and developments in Greece right now, this is the place to go. Not the mainstream Greek news, but independent journalism with sharp analysis and links to interesting and important topics from a variety of sources.
