daichi x sugawara

Suga was losing his smile recently.

The stress of simply existing was getting to him, and it was like the walls were closing in. 

Suga had made some bad decisions.

His wrists weren't bleeding. The stray cat he fed was just being grumpy. His smile wasn't getting faker and faker. He just hadn't slept well. His eyes weren't losing their sparkle. He was just concentrating on volleyball. He hadn't been himself lately. He was just focused on his studies.

Lies.

Sugawara Koushi was a fucking liar.

Every day, he felt like he was suffocating. He was drowning in the deep, black ocean, with no one to find him. His lungs were filling with water, he was screaming for help, but then he decided he didn't need to. Because he deserved this. He deserved to die alone, with nobody by his side. He deserved everything the world threw at him.

Or, at least that's what he thought.

Well, no matter. Nobody else's opinion was ever heard anyway, because Suga had been distancing himself from everybody in his life. 

"Koushi, are you okay?" Daichi asked, snapping Suga out of his thoughts.

"Huh? Yeah, yeah, totally fine." Suga said.

"No, you're not. And you're going to tell me what's bothering you." Daichi said sternly, and Suga knew it was over because he used his i-am-captain-and-dad-to-a-bunch-of-kids-my-age-and-i-have-to-keep-them-in-check voice, not his suga-is-my-friend-and-i-care-deeply-about-him-and-want-him-to-be-okay voice.

So Suga told him everything.

Including his twelve step plan to putting himself out of his misery.

"Oh my god, Koushi…I– why didn't you say something? Please don't end it. Ever. Please. Everybody would be crushed." Daichi's eyes welled up with tears, and his voice cracked.

"Well, there is one thing I wanted to say to you before it's all over, but I guess I won't ever have to tell you now."

"You can still tell me, if you want."

"I'm gay, Daichi."

"Oh," Daichi blinked in surprise. "Suga, you know almost everyone on our volleyball team is gay, right? There's nothing to be embarrassed about."

"Not to my parents." Suga's bottom lip quivered and he looked away, ashamed.

"Suga," Daichi said, sweetly, "we all care about you, no matter what, okay? You are amazing. You are kind. You are Sugawara Koushi, and that is the biggest complement anybody could give you. Who cares what they think? It's your life."

And then the dam broke.

Suga held onto Daichi and sobbed, letting all his frustration, anger, and pain out into the brunette's chest. Daichi immediately wrapped his arms around him, and rubbed circles gently on his back as he whispered sweet nothings.

After Suga had cried until there were no tears left, he pulled away sniffling. 

"Sorry." he muttered, embarrassed that he had probably got his tears and snot on Daichi's hoodie.

"Don't apologise. It's normal. You're human, Koushi," Daichi reassured him. Then, he leaned down slightly and kissed Suga on the forehead. "You can tell me anything. Anything at all, okay? I will never judge you."

"Well, there is one more thing I've been wanting to tell you." Suga blushed, biting his lip.

"What?"

"I'm in love with you, Daichi." Suga whispered.

Daichi's mouth fell open, as he confusedly stared at Suga. "Oh god, I knew I shouldn't have said that, I'm so sorry, uh, can we forget about—" Suga started rambling, but was interrupted by Daichi, kissing him softly. Delicately. As if he pressed his lips just a bit harder, Suga would break, would disappear, and it would all be over.

After a few seconds, Daichi pulled away.

Suga was crying again.

Tears dripped down his pink cheeks and rolled down to his chin as he bit his lip and cried softly.

"Shit, why are you crying? Should I have not done that?" Daichi gasped. "Am I a bad kisser?"

Suga slapped his arm gently. "No, these are happy tears. I've wanted that for so long now." Daichi sighed in relief. 

"And, for the record, you are a pretty great kisser." Suga teased.

"Shut up!" Daichi blushed, his tan skin now tinted with bright red.

"I love you."

"...I love you too."

Plant Problems

Just dredging up some old Haikyuu writings (like really dredging up I wrote this like 3-5 years ago).

Where Daichi comes home to find Suga has a new friend.

Daichi walked into the apartment he shared with Suga, dropping the few bags of toiletries he’d bought for his “Captain’s” vacation. Every year, Kuroo insisted that all the Captain’s from their former school years spend time together. Really it was mostly a work conference. Scouting out other members for volleyball teams and other things, but Kuroo liked to think that he planned it all and the conference part just “happened” to be at the same time. Oikawa would always complain every year about not wanting to go, but would show up and get the most trashed out of all of them. Daichi had made sure to buy an entire bottle of pain relievers for his inevitable hangovers. 

He expected Suga to greet him when he walked in. What he didn’t expect was for Suga to greet him from behind a three foot tall fern. Looking past him he saw an assortment of plants on the kitchen table as well, pots littering the floor around it.

“What’s all this?” Daichi asked.

“Nothing, I just picked up a few things. I thought it would give me something to do. Liven up the place.” He replied, struggling to turn the fern. 

“And you needed that one specifically?” Daich half laughed.

“I like it. It’s nice and green and bulky. Fills up the empty space.” Suga said, shrugging but not looking at Daichi.

At the mention of empty space something in Daichi’s head clicked. He made his way over to his boyfriend, making him turn to face him. 

“You don’t have to replace me with plants. I’m only going to be gone for a week.” He said with a small smile. 

Suga sighed, finally looking at him, “I know, but a week is a long time in an empty apartment. It always is.”

Daich placed a soft kiss on his lips, “I’ll be back before you know it.”

Suga went in for another kiss, deepening it until Daichi wrapped his arms around him. When they broke apart Suga was grinning. 

“At least I can get behind the plants, seeing as last year it was a tank full of goldfish.” Daichi said. 

“At least they seemed like they were listening.” 

“Then you cried when they died.”

“Hey, we said we weren’t bringing that back up. Besides, Leafy is growing on me.” Suga said, touching the leaves lovingly.

“Leafy? You named it already?” 

“Well yes, I have to have someone to address while you’re at smelly bros camp.” Suga joked. 

“Don’t let Oikawa hear you say that. He’d be offended.” 

“Good thing only you and Leafy heard me then.”

“You’re ridiculous.”

“Watch it, or you’ll find your side of the bed covered with those cute daisies when you get back.”

Daichi grinned mischievously, “Well then I guess I’d better get some use out of it before I go.”

He quickly grabbed Suga and lifted him over his shoulder, Suga letting out a surprised gasp, followed by laughter. Daichi headed into their room, noting the two plants already sitting on the nightstand, before dumping Suga on the bed. Suga knew he’d seen the plants and smirked. 

“Let’s see what you’ve got, Captain, and I’ll consider putting the daisies on the windowsill instead.” Suga teased. 

Daichi lowered himself onto his boyfriend, kissing his neck slowly, “Good thing I  have till tomorrow morning to prove I’m better than some plants.”

A few hours later, Daichi had a promise that his side of the bed would still be there and the apartment wouldn’t be taken over by foliage. Not that he minded much by the time he left. In fact, Leafy was sort of growing on him too. Maybe having a few plants around to liven up the place wouldn’t be such a bad thing to come back to after all.

It was just about time for volleyball practice after school, and Daichi was not feeling good. He hadn’t eaten properly all day because of stress for the upcoming tournament, and he was dizzy and disoriented. The bell rang, and most of the class left. Suga got up from his desk and walked up to Daichi’s. “Hey,” he said, “you ready to leave?”.  “Yeah.” Daichi replied, pushing himself up with the support of the desk. “Let’s go.” “Are you sure you’re okay? You don’t look too good and, come to think of it, I didn’t see you at lunch either.” asked Suga, concern lacing his voice. “Yes, Suga, don’t mother me. Save that for the ten grown children we have on the team.” 

Suga smiled a bit, and they continued walking to the courts. 

The corners of Daichi’s mouth twitched upward, and he knew he had made Suga worry a bit less. No matter how shitty he felt, he loved knowing he was responsible for Suga’s beautiful smile.

“Shit! We’re late!” Suga realised, and he broke into a run, turning to make sure Daichi was following him. Daichi ran after him, and suddenly his dizziness turned into spots in his vision. He stopped and leaned against a rail. “Just give me a minute. You go.” he said. Suga turned as he realised Daichi was no longer running behind him. He jogged back to him. “No way,” he said, patting Daichi’s head and ruffling his already messy brown hair. “I’m not leaving you like this.” He took out his water bottle from his bag, and made Daichi drink some.

Daichi smiled weakly at Suga’s concerned but loving eyes, and thought, “God, he's beautiful.”.  “Hey, look at me.” Suga said. Daichi did, and before he could comprehend anything, Suga’s lips were on his. It was a quick peck, but he still smiled widely. How was he still so weak for this man? It had only been a few weeks (if you don't count the pining for him when they met), and he had fallen so in love with his motherly concern, the glitter in his eyes, and the way his smile lit up the room. And how he was a lot less innocent than he got credit for. God, he loved Suga.

Then, they walked back to practice, Suga holding both their bags. He made sure Daichi wouldn’t play by threatening no kisses for a week, but they both knew he wouldn’t last that long. Daichi still agreed though, suddenly loving the princess treatment. 

After practice, Suga walked Daichi home, just like they always did. He was leaning in to hug him, but Daichi shifted away uncomfortably. “Don’t, I’m really sweaty. I think I might have a fever.” he said. “And I think I don’t care.” Suga replied, shaking his head. He hugged Daichi tightly, his arms wrapped around his body in an embrace that made Daichi feel safe and warm. “I love you,” muttered Suga, “take care of yourself, okay?”.

“What did I do to deserve him?” Daichi thought as Suga walked away.

Okay, I know that you are probably super busy being amazing and all, but you should really take the time and read this daichixsuga fic I found. It’s called Finally by MoraMew and it’s really cute. It’s omegaverse fanfic and idk if you like those id put the link in here but I can’t...on a side note, does Opentab daichi throw birthday parties for his friends where they just get really drunk and share funny stories? Hey sorry for the late late late late reply to this ask. I set it aside because I was going to try to actually write a little birthday scene or something but I don’t think I’ll ever actually get around to it so Imma just answer real short like the loser I am.

Thanks for the rec! Omegaverse isn’t typically something I seek out but there are some elements of it that I find interesting so I’m not against it. I’ll be sure to check it out later. I’ve been really wanting to get back into reading lately so it’ll be a good step into actually accomplishing that.

And yes, OT!Daichi definitely throws birthday parties for all the brats. (whether he wants to or not) and they probably get really out of hand and stuff probably gets hella broken and maybe a couple fires get started and Daichi is Done™ with all of them and is never ever ever going to throw a party ever again and there’s no way that anyone can make him-----

And then he does it again the next time one rolls around and he’s a fool. A damn fool. But he loves his friends (reluctantly) and he just can’t help but spoil the bastards.

Maybe one day he will actually learn his lesson.

But I doubt it.
