“I’m sorry, I’m just—I’m just really tired.” / for Emerson from Dallas !
“i have the space,” Emery tells him, “you can sleep on my couch or … i can. don’t feel like you have to leave. you did join me on my last minute gift buying for my siblings.” he smiles thinking about the chaotic day they had trying to fight through the crowds to find the perfect gifts.
“i’m exhausted too from wandering around the mall for 40 minutes after getting separated from you. which we will never discuss again.” emery chuckles, he feels embarrassed of being his age and getting lost.
“so…. I can make a makeshift bed on here,” his hand runs across the fabric of the couch. or you can join me in my bed.”

Storia Di Musica #372 - Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso, Canto Di Primavera, 1979
Seguono i fiati.
Buona Pasqua!

Tucker Carlson went to Moscow last week and had an absolute blast. He rode the subway and marveled at its clean cars, the fancy tilework in Kievskaya Station, and the lack of booze-drenched hobos. He went to a grocery store and was astonished by what ordinary people could apparently buy. He even managed to meet a local history buff and sit down for tea and conversation. Carlson, who had never previously visited Moscow, declared himself “radicalized” against America’s leaders by the experience. He didn’t want to live in Moscow, but he did want to know why we in America have to put up with street crime and crappy food when the supposedly bankrupt Russia provided such a nice life for its people, or at least those people not named Alexei Navalny.
My former Atlantic colleague Ralph Waldo Emerson called travel a “fool’s paradise,” but not all forms of foolishness are equal. Many commentators have guffawed at Carlson’s Russophilia and pointed out that Russia’s murder rate is roughly that of the United States, and that its citizens are dirt poor, about a fifth as wealthy per capita as the citizens of the United States overall. “I don’t care what some flagship supermarket in an imperial city looks like,” The Dispatch’s Jonah Goldberg tweeted. “Russia is far, far poorer than our poorest state, Mississippi.” Bloomberg’s Joe Weisenthal suggested that Carlson instead visit the grocery stores of the “10th or 50th” richest Russian cities, and see how they compare with America’s.
In 2019, I visited several large and small Russian cities, and I went grocery shopping at least once in each. Would you believe that Tucker Carlson is on to something? In Moscow (the largest) and St. Petersburg (No. 2), the flagship supermarkets are indeed spectacular. The Azbuka Vkusa branch next to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Moscow is more luxurious than any grocery store within 100 miles of Washington, D.C. Other branches in Moscow vary in quality, and they are usually smaller than American supermarkets. But to some extent that’s just a matter of culture: The U.S. has fewer supermarkets, but each one is big enough to feed the 82nd Airborne Division for a month; in Europe, supermarkets are more numerous but tiny.
Makhachkala (22), the capital of Dagestan, followed a similar pattern to Moscow. One supermarket downtown was amazing, the equal of an upscale supermarket in Washington or Dallas. On the outskirts the quality varied, but not drastically. Local residents were not eating soups made from grass clippings. In Murmansk (71), the cramped bodega near my rented flat had a good wine selection and enough fresh staple foods to prepare a different meal your mom would approve of every day of the week. Only in Derbent (134) did I start to wonder whether the bad old days of the Soviet Union were still in effect. But even that would be an exaggeration. In Derbent, for $15, you could get champagne and caviar with blini and velvety sour cream. If you want to flash back to Cold War communism, go to Havana. There the grocery stores stock only dust and mildew.
With apologies to Emerson, travel can disabuse you of foolish notions just as often as it plants them in your head. An idea ripe for dispelling among Americans at this particular moment is that life in Russia must suck because the frigid depression of the Cold War never ended. In those days ordinary citizens were spied upon and tortured and killed, and the shops were empty, save for substandard goods at prices few could afford. Now Russia is different. The state repression is much more limited, though no less brutal toward those who attract its attention. Until the Ukraine war added a huge category of forbidden topics, the main ones that you could get locked up for discussing were war in the Caucasus and the personal life and finances of President Vladimir Putin and his inner circle. Most other topics were broachable, and you could whine all you liked about them.
Equally in need of updating are American expectations about Russian economic misery. Those whose visits to Russia stopped 20 years ago tend to have outdated views of the best the country has to offer. My visits started 24 years ago. Back then, I spent days at a time on the Trans-Siberian, crammed into railway cabins with little to do but talk with Russians and see how they lived. Life was not beautiful. The men busied themselves with crosswords and sullenly browsed pornography. When not in motion, I stayed with Russian friends in single-room flats that looked straight out of a New York tenement building 100 years ago. No one I met was starving, but women sometimes approached me in train stations hoping to rent out their homes or bodies, or to sell me family heirlooms. That type of desperation seems to have subsided, although I would be shocked if any of those people are able to buy the jamón ibérico at the Smolenskaya branch of Azbuka Vkusa yet. On the roads between the big cities, there are still villages so ramshackle that they look like sets from The Little Rascals. Evidence suggests that the Russian military’s frontline troops tend to come from these depressed and benighted lands, the places that really are stuck in the 20th century.
Certain aspects of life remain dismal even in the cities. My flat in Murmansk had surly drunks tottering outside its entrance, and its stairwell smelled like every cat, dog, and human resident had marked its territory there regularly since the Brezhnev era. But the playgrounds were decent, and you could get a delicious smoked-reindeer pizza at a cozy restaurant for $7. Remember, this is in a small, depressed Russian city—not somewhere stocked with goodies just in case an American wanders out of the lobby of the Radisson and needs to be impressed. The “useful idiots” of yesteryear were treated to fake Moscows, which evanesced as soon as the next Aeroflot flights took off. The luxuries of Moscow that Carlson sees, and that I saw, are not evanescent, and they are not (as they are in North Korea, say) a curated experience available only to those on controlled visits.
The stubborn belief that all good things in Russia must be illusory can in turn warp one’s analysis of the country, and in particular of Putin’s durability in power. After all, why would anyone remain loyal to an autocrat who delivered only hunger, penury, and the reek of cat piss? Putin rules by fear but not only by fear. Most Russians will tell you that Russia today is better than it was before Putin. They compare it not with the Soviet era but with the anarchy and decline of the 1990s. Life expectancy has risen, public parks are better maintained, and certain fruits of capitalism can be tasted by Russians of all classes. Who would risk these gains? Like every autocrat, Putin has ensured that his downfall just might destroy every good thing Russia has experienced in the past two decades. This risk is, from the perspective of regime continuity, a positive feature, because it keeps all but the most principled and brave opposition quiet, and content to shut up and enjoy their cheap caviar. Those like Navalny who object do not object for long.
Carlson’s videos never quite say what precisely he thinks Russia gets right. Moscow is in many ways superior to New York. But Paris has a good subway system too. Japan and Thailand have fine grocery stores, and I wonder, when I enter them, why entering my neighborhood Stop & Shop in America is such a depressing experience by comparison. Carlson’s stated preference for Putin’s leadership over Joe Biden’s suggests that the affection is not for fine food or working public transit but for firm autocratic rule—which, as French, Thais, and Japanese will attest, is not a precondition for high-quality goods and services. And in an authoritarian state, those goods and services can serve to prolong the regime.
I confess I still enjoy watching Carlson post videos of Moscow, wide-eyed and credulous as he slowly learns to love a country that I love too. I hope he posts more of them. One goes through stages of love for Russia, often starting with the literature and music, then moving to its dark humor and the personalities of its people, which are always cycling between thaw and frost. Inevitably one reflects on the irony that this civilization, whose achievement is almost without equal in some respects, is utterly cursed in others—consigned to literally centuries of misgovernment, incompetence, and tyranny. The final stage is realizing that the greatness of Russia is part of the curse, a heightening of the irony, as if no matter how much goes right, something is deeply wrong. Maybe when things go right, the more deeply wrong it is. Carlson seems to still be in one of the early stages of this journey.

FEMSLASH FEBRUARY 2025 #15: In which Cameron and Donna, after meeting in a computer class at their high school, are now friends
[CN: food/meal/snack mentions] .
Cameron was staring off toward the school’s football field, headphones on, “Bastards of Young” by The Replacements blaring into her ears, thinking about how the school year was nearly over, when Donna stepped into her field of vision. Standing in front of Cameron, only a few feet between them, Donna gave her a shy wave. She smiled, and she pointed at her ears, as if she was asking Cameron to take off her headphones. With a small but visible sigh, Cameron reached into the pocket of her parka and hit the play/stop button on her Walkman, and then carefully pulled her headphones down, resting them around her neck.
Now that she knew about Cameron’s hiding spot behind the school, Donna would join her out there regularly. It was the sort of thing that should have been annoying, But for some reason that Cameron couldn’t ascertain, Donna’s visits didn’t bother her. It was actually kind of nice, to be findable, to be known, to someone, to one of the few people at Franklin D. Roosevelt High School, one of the few people in all of Dallas, maybe, that didn’t make Cameron feel like an alien. But Cameron didn’t think it was necessary to let Donna know that it felt nice.
Cameron sometimes thought about how everything about Donna Emerson should have been annoying to her. Donna wore pressed blouses, lush, pill-free sweaters, and well-fitting yet modest above-the-knee length skirts, and her makeup was always subtle and tasteful. Her nails always looked well-kept, she always wore either clear or pale pink polish, and her hair was always perfectly feathered and teased. Everything about her was prim and kempt, and her house, which Cameron had visited so she and Donna could work on their midterm project, was the same way. The house was large, on one of the nicer blocks in Richardson, stylishly if somewhat blandly decorated, and Donna’s mother, whose hair and nails and sweaters were like Donna’s, had seemed proud of it, and confused as to what Cameron was doing there. She had looked at Cameron, scanning her clothes, and asked Donna, in a pleasant sounding but forced voice, “And who is this?” as if Cameron couldn’t be addressed directly.
But Donna had never said anything about Cameron’s bleached and slightly damaged hair, or her heavy black eyeliner, or her army store clothes. Donna’s mother seemed like she must spend whatever free time she had left after doing her nails and ironing her clothes and heat-styling her hair looking for messy people, people like Cameron, to ridicule. But Donna was unfazed by how Cameron looked, and interested solely in what Cameron thought: about the class, the assignments, computer science in general, and on occasion, other things that happened at school. She’d pointedly told her mother that Cameron was “only the best student in our computer class.”
Whenever Donna found Cameron in her headphones, she would always ask her about it. As if on cue, she asked, “So what are we listening to today?”
“Here,” Cameron said, reaching into her pocket. She pulled the cassette case of her copy of Tim out, and handed it over.
Donna took the tape from her and started to examine it closely, and then, she asked, “Hey, do you mind if I listen?”
This, too, had become apart of their outdoor hang outs. Donna had listened to and enjoyed The Slits, Talking Heads, Big Boys, and even Bad Brains.
“Sure,” Cameron said. She reached into her pocket again, and carefully extricated her walkman, while Donna dug her headphones out of her backpack. She was about to unplug her headphones but then she put them back on her ears, and hit the rewind button. She went back to the beginning of the song she’d been listening to, her favorite, and hoped that Donna would like it. When the song was properly cued, she tugged the plug out of the jack, and then gave Donna her walkman.
Headphones already on her ears, Donna took the walkman, plugged in, and hit play.
Cameron took a bag of sour coke bottles out of her pocket, opened it, and fished out a gummy. She looked at Donna, about to offer her some candy, but stopped when she saw the Donna was already smiling, and nodding along.
Donna hit the play/stop button, and said, “I like how the guitar sounds! You know, the texture?” She rubbed the pad of her thumb against the tips of her pointer and middle fingers, as if she was feeling soft fabric, and then hit the play/stop button again.
God, she is such a geek, Cameron thought, as she watched her enjoy the song. She was overwhelmed by horrifically confusing feelings of irritation and affection. Before she could stop herself, she suddenly blurted out, “Hey, do you wanna hang out, some time?”
Donna looked at her, eye brows scrunching, and the she stopped the song again. “Hey, did you say something?” she asked.
Cameron hesitated. “Uh, no, I didn’t say anything.” But then before Donna could turn the walkman back on she said, “That’s a lie, I did say something. I asked if you wanted to hang out some time.”
Donna’s face softened. As if she’d never heard of such a thing, or had maybe never been asked, she said, “Hang out? As in….?”
“I don’t know,” Cameron said, her face starting to feel warm. “I mean, I guess, we’re hanging out right now, technically. But you know what I mean. Like, not at school. And not for school, not to do work but to just…hang. We could get tacos. Or something.”
Donna smiled brightly at her. “I would like that,” she said. “I’m free after marching band practice. Meet you back here at a little after 3?”
“Okay.” Cameron was about to smile back, but then she though, wait. 'I would like that?' Does she think I just asked her on a date? And then, it dawned on her, that she had, in fact, just asked Donna Emerson out. She hadn’t even known she was doing it.
And instead of feeling like she needed to clarify - ‘it’s not like a date or whatever’ - Cameron realized that she’d meant to ask her on a date. She had asked because she wanted to go on a date with Donna. Her eyes widened with panic over how she was not panicking that Donna might have misunderstood what she’d meant.
Donna saw the look on Cameron’s face. “Are you okay?” she asked.
“Yeah!” Cameron lied. “I’m great!”

individual showjumping final! this course was gorgeous in all respects (especially love the wall that looks like the notre dame rose windows) (and the curled-up lizard topiary thing. love that guy) and also tricky as all hell. only three riders went double clear (bc the oxers are massive and the striding is so so technical).
Canada: Mario Deslauriers on Emerson. i love watching the jumpers move - they’re so forward. two sets of reins. nicely in time, but two rails down.
Germany: Phillipp Weishaupt on Zineday. drop noseband. some gape between fences. one second over, one rail down.
Argentina: Jose Maria (jr) Larocca on Finn Lente. started rough with a knocked rail, and the combinations really got them. one second over, five rails down.
UK: Ben Maher on Dallas Vegas Batilly. mare! nose net. froth. i love watching this mare; she’s got so much scope and so much try. in time, one rail. Just caught the oxer in the double.
USA: Laura Kraut on Baloutinue. came in nice and quiet, and Baloutinue seems fairly settled. i think she’s my favorite rider in the field. fighting a little in the turns. he tries so hard to keeps his legs out of the way over the last fence but it doesn’t quite work. in time, one rail.
Austria: Max Kuehner on Elektric Blue P. drop noseband, froth. gape. also knocks the last fence - i think the riders are going to have to take that extra second to come at it perfectly straight. one rail, in time.
France: Simon Delestre on I Amelusina R 51. rough start, knocks the first fence. gape. coming in close to the red flag on most of these fences. god that’s so much gape. in time, two rails.
Germany: Christian Kukuk on Checker 47. i do love watching the jumpers move but so many of them are hyperflexed before the round starts and that i could do without. lots of gape -  there are so many stride adjustments in this course. rattles a rail on the double combination, but it stays. double clear!
Belgium: Gregory Wathelet on Bond Jamesbond de Hay. still love this name. hackamore! couldn’t quite clear the water. very fast round. two rails.
Netherlands: Maikel van der Vlueten on Beauville Z. little awkward over the double combination - think it was a long spot. making full use of the space. double clear.
UAE: Omar Abdul Aziz al Marzooqi on Enjoy de la Mure. little bit of froth. looked like a touch of sass in one of the lead changes (we've all ridden that). clever striding. in time, two rails. lots of pets for Enjoy as they leave.
Japan: Takashi Hasse Shibayama on Karamell M&M. rolls the first rail out of its cups, knocks fence two and both in the double combo. elects (smartly) to retire.
Saudi Arabia: Ramzy al Duhami on Untouchable 32. mare! gape - i can see her tongue in the close-ups. this mare is scopey as all hell - only knocks the oxer in the first double combination. in time, one rail.
Mexico: Andres Azcarraga on Contrendros 2. having trouble over the oxers. takes the turn to the water fast and just slides to a stop; Azcarraga comes off.
Brazil: Rodrigo Pessoa on Major Tom. Major Tom has braids in. starts a little under speed/behind the leg. knocks two rails, elects to retire.
USA: Karl Cook on Caracole de la Roque. mare! one of the hackamore girlies (and her noseband is fuzzy!). still don’t like her topline. they’re fighting about speed - Caracole has Opinions. the turn to the card suite jumps is awkward and the combination doesn’t go well. in time, two rails.
Belgium: Gilles Tomas on Ermitage Kalone. nose net. nice quiet feeling round. in time, two rails down.
Norway: Victoria Gulliksen on Mistral van de Vogelzang. having a Moment before the round starts. double combination literally trips them up - thought they were both going to fall trying to get over the oxer in the double combination. half a second over, two rails down.
Brazil: Stephan de Frietas Barcha on Primavera. mare! two sets of reins. fast around the turn to the water, some speed discussions in the ensuing fences. scrapes her way through the triple combination and the card suite fences, but she makes it! really using that fifth leg. if you click with a mare, she will do anything for you. in time, one rail.
UK: Scott Brash on Jefferson. his stripe and snip are so cool. drop noseband. knocks the oxer in the double combination. in time, one rail down.
Saudi Arabia: Abdulrahman Alrajhi on Ventago. red ribbon. lots of stride adjustments. tt’s a bit of a slog for them today and you can feel it. uses all of his space to the card suite jumps. one second over, one rail down.
Netherlands: Kim Emmen on Imagine. two sets of reins. first rail comes down. he’s tired - this is his fourth round this week. in time, three rails down.
Italy: Emanuele Camilli on Odense Odeveld. hackamore? i think? shadow roll. first rail down. handles the double combination nicely. in time, three rails.
Sweden: Henrik von Eckermann on King Edward. nose net. makes it through the water and following line by sheer force of will only for King Edward to make a wrong turn. little bit of discussion about it, then Eckermann comes off and takes the bridle with him. insists on leading King Edward back himself (we love to see it). Edward is still worked up - Eckermann is using the elbow in the neck trick to make space. yeah been there (regularly).
Switzerland: Steve Guerdat on Dynamix de Belheme. mare! gape. she is bound and determined to make this course her bitch. good for her! double clear.
Switzerland: Martin Fuchs on Leone Jei. drop noseband. looked like Fuchs almost came off in the double combination and he lost a stirrup. almost swings left (same as King Edward) but recovers. in time, one rail down. out of the medals, but that was some impressive riding.
Netherlands: Harrie Smolders on Uricas V/D Kattenvennen. froth. some gape. he’s trying but he’s tired. two time penalties, one rail.
Ireland: Daniel Coyle on Legacy. mare! love her. she’s ready to get it done. froth. stretching down in the turn to the card suite fences. i think the striding gets fucked up, they knock the next four fences (card suite combination and the two after it). Coyle elects to retire.
Ireland: Shane Sweetnam on James Kann Cruz. converter reins. knocks the oxer in the double combination, runs into trouble in the triple. in time, three rails down.
France: Julien Epaillard on Dubai du Cedre. mare! our other hackamore girlie 🎉 her blaze is fantastic. arguing about speed.sShe's scopey as hell and putting everything in. not quite steady enough to the second card suite fence. in time, one rail.

The Flat Earth PsyOp was created to hide two main things.
A. That the US Military Industrial Complex has developed state-of-the-art aircraft capable of interstellar travel, thanks to your tax dollars, here: https://www.bitchute.com/video/CAMMdMNn0sER/
and B. Inner Earth, known as Agartha.
A 1. Not only has the US MIC developed state of the art aircraft capable of interstellar travel, but these aircraft and "defense" corps are now arming "space" which is why NASA photoshops so much of their content.
A 2. The Flat Earth PsyOp is also used to hide human trafficking and use of human slave labor off planet. However, most people won't believe this because they have slept most of their lives and are trapped in mental constructs like Democrat vs Republican, Black vs White, Hollywood movies, religion, and other things that they are used to holding onto the people divided and in a state of low consciousness, unaware of the amazing information that can actually set us all free. This is the main war alongside the spiritual, the battle for your consciousness, which is why natural plants and remedies like cannabis and ayahuasca are illegal in the western world.
A 3. Last but not least, the flat earth disinfo also tries to hide that other governments have developed sophisticated aircraft, like Germany for example with their "Haunebu" saucer:
