The weirdest thing about watching Invincible is seeing Ollie still be a cute lil baby while knowing exactly what's gonna happen.

Like of course it's like that for everyone. Rex, Rudy (aka Rex as well itc). It's especially painful watching them drag out Amber and Mark's breakup and sitting there like that one Frank Castle meme.

But it's different for Ollie. Watching this cute baby coo while they try to think of a name for him just, idk it hits differently. It's like I receive flashes in my mind.

i also have a Lot to say about loki and sylvie's whole interaction on the train in episode 3. especially in regard to their chat about romance, when they both admit they've never had something real:

"well, people are quite willing in the face of certain doom."

"i'm sure they are."

"it was only ever just... to keep me going."

sylvie's little smile when she says it at first, but how it fades when she admits the reality. she cannot be truthful and treat that loneliness that raised her like a joke. and why is she honest at all? she wields vulnerability in such an unpredictable fashion that you almost wonder if it's part of her typical con but. i think it just starts breaking through around this point in the episode and it's almost like a dam. in the face of certain doom, she finds some to listen to her in loki, someone not initially motivated out of anything but self-preservation, but maybe it feels good to say the quiet parts out loud to someone who could sort of almost understand.

and then, of course, against all odds they live through Lamentis, and have to live with knowing what they said to each other.

whenever i think about wanderer, i can't help but conclude that that the bird in his demo is nahida. like beyond the recurring motif of nahida being a bird - first in a cage, now free of her restraints - i think that's just something she would do.

i can definitely see her accompanying wanderer on his travels even though he's like "i don't need your help" because she wants him to enjoy his new experiences and make friends. while also maybe annoying him a little.

like, wanderer's first reaction to the bird persistently following him in his demo -> "oh, not you again" energy -> "fine you can join me just don't bother me"...peak edgy younger brother going out the door + protective but teasing older sister dynamic. and guess who has the driver's license of the two of them, lmao...two guesses and the first doesn't count.

(also i find it interesting that his demo is titled "of solitude past and present" but...with nahida by his side, and in this case literally, wanderer isn't alone anymore. and he doesn't have to be, doesn't have to face his fears on his own, ever again.)

speaking about the fact that sozo seems the be the only one infected by the unnamed cordyceps-inspired fungus. irl, theres different splits (subgen) of cordyceps and each of them i think can only infect One Type of Host. like irl split subgen of cordyceps that seems to the inspo for sozo's parasite is Ophiocordyceps unilateralis, all of them in this subgen can only infect one tribe of ant called Camponotini, and cannot infect any others. i think?? (due to reproductive isolation yadayada) so i always sorta linked it in my head that "oh its only infecting sozo because it can only infect ants or something like that".

Yeah I sorta wondered that as well!! It could be that the type of cordyceps within game is just extremely specified to ant folk, in which case my theories get even more complicated because then anything could be going on there (the menticide itself causing the infection, a separate fungus causing the infection, the mutualistic stuff I mentioned,,,)

I just wasn't totally certain n didn't suggest it being super specialized since 1)

When I was taught very broadly about cordyceps, we were shown images of various insects getting infected from grasshoppers to beetles, so I wasn't certain how many generalized vs. specialized cordyceps were sporin around hdgKJSHG

Dee's the writer and director... stepping into the leader position she naturally gravitates towards... she's casting the roles. She cast wrong in dee day, but this will change.

She always wanted the lead role before, which got in-between mac and dennis, but if she steps back (behind the scenes), she won't be their buffer anymore and then...

I rewatched aluminum monster vs fatty magoo and noticed how bad mac is at being controlling and manipulative (he follows exactly what frank says, doing things that he's still trying to apply to this day, like announcing dennis' announcement), how dennis can only ever see himself as filling the role perfectly, and how dee naturally stages a strike and everyone listens to her.

I also rewatched gets held hostage and noticed how it heavily features frank's will and how his gun saves the day, both elements that are coming back in tandem in ep2 of s16... and hostage is a very interesting ep in analyzing the group dynamics and how they interact with each or betray each other. It's also like... its talk of stockholm syndrome, because due to dee's monologue I feel like "why are you doing this to me?" will be a theme, in s16. Because it's like... well ok, no only is it also in gets whacked p2, but it implies that you fell in love with the other person because they did something to you...

look, I'm being rambly (as usual), but what I'm saying is that I feel like s16 will pull a lot from s3 specifically... I guess we will see more clearly when it airs, but I wanted to put it out there. It's not just THAT season tho there's like, season 9 too. and 14.

god Merlin 1x04 is still peak. Merlin drinking poison instead of Arthur to save his life. Arthur disobeying his father to look for a cure no matter what. Merlin spending his whole suffering, dying, mumbling Arthur's name in his sleep begging for him to come back lest he falls into a trap. Arthur refusing to give up. Merlin casting magic to save Arthur and lead him away from the cure to save him instead. Arthur refusing to listen and endangering himself for the cure still. Arthur smuggling and hiding the cure, begging his father to give Merlin the cure even if Arthur had to be locked away for months as long as saving Merlin was possible. Arthur still smuggling the cure back to Merlin at all cost. episode 1x04 my beloved.
