Soggy Bottom Boys - I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow 2000
"I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow" is a traditional American folk song first recorded by Dick Burnett, a partially blind fiddler from Kentucky. The song was originally titles "Farewell Song" when printed in a Richard Burnett songbook in 1913. Burnett recorded the song in 1927 but this version was unreleased and the master recording destroyed. The first commercially released record was by Emry Arthur in 1928, and which gave the song its current title.
It's been covered plenty of times during the years with lyrical tweaks, but the biggest impact worldwide happened with the release of the 2000 film O Brother, Where Art Thou?, where it plays a central role in the plot, earning the three runaway protagonists public recognition as the Soggy Bottom Boys. The song had lead vocals by Dan Tyminski, who also was the vocalist on Avicii's 2013 hit "Hey Brother". "I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow" received a CMA Award for "Single of the Year" in 2001 and a Grammy for "Best Country Collaboration with Vocals" in 2002, and also named Song of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association in 2001. It earned a total of 70,4% total yes votes here.
If you love great movies with amazing music, please do check this one out! :D <3

Dan Tyminski and Jerry Douglas performing "The Boy Who Wouldn't Hoe Corn". ________________________________ The Boy Who Wouldn't Hoe Corn Songwriters: Patrick Brayer, Jerry Douglas, Barry Bales, Dan Tyminski, Ron Block and Alison Krauss
Tell you a little story and it won't take long 'Bout a lazy farmer who wouldn't hoe his corn The reason why I never could tell For that young man was always well
He planted his corn in the month of June By July it was up to his eyes Come September, came a big frost And all the young man's corn was lost
His courtship had just begun Said, "Young man, have you hoed some corn?" "Well I tried and I tried, and I tried in vain "But I don't believe I raised one grain."
He went down town to his neighbour's door Where he had often been before Saying, "Pretty little miss, will you marry me?" "Little miss, what do you say?"
"Why do you come for me to wed? "You can't even make your own cornbread "Single I am, and will remain "A lazy man, I won't maintain."
He turned his back and walked away Saying, "Little miss, you'll rue the day "You'll rue the day that you were born "For giving me the devil 'cause I wouldn't hoe corn."

CMT Hot 20 Presents Let Freedom Sing!
So today on the MSR (Midnight Star Review), I would like to talk about the latest edition of Let freedom sing! The show was by CMT (Country Music Television) and hosted by Cody Alan. And the performer was Brad Paisley playing his hits. The show took place on CMT and was on Tuesday July 4th, 2023 and was on at 10pm EST (Eastern Standard Time). So let see what Brad played for us on this special night.
Set list. So many Summers. The love boat. Water. Jerry Douglas, & Dan Tyminski played "Man of constant sorrow". This is Country Music. American Saturday night. Celebrity Whiskey lullaby with Kelleigh Bannen. Let the good times roll (Tribute to B.B. King). Mud on tires. Alcohol.
And that's a wrap for this special performance. And on the MSR (Midnight Star Review), I would give this show a 3 out of 5 stars. My biggest complaint about these concerts are they only 1 hour long. Brad has a lot of hits, and he did deserve more time. It was good to go down memory lane with Brad's hits. Thanks for taking the time to read this review. See ya all next time.

Album Review: Michael Cleveland - Lovin’ of the Game
If respect can be measured by friendships, then Michael Cleveland is the Aretha Franklin of bluegrass.
The liner notes of Cleveland’s Lovin’ of the Game must’ve drained several ink jars for such bold-face names as the Travelin’ McCourys, Billy Strings, Vince Gill, Béla Fleck, Dan Tyminski, Charlie Starr, Tim O’ Brien and others who appear on various tracks when Cleveland isn’t jamming with his own band, Flame Keeper.
The guests are both the strength and relative weakness of the Game. For while the playing is beyond reproach, the diversity of players makes for a lack of cohesion as the album zigs across the jamgrass of “For Your Love” (Strings) before zagging to the country waltz of Gill’s “I Wish I Knew Now What I Knew Then” and the clichéd, new-country balladry of Starr’s re-recording of Blackberry Smoke’s “One Horse Town.”
On Lovin’ of the Game, the hottest tracks are instrumentals like “Thousand Dollar Holler” and “Contact,” with Fleck, Barry Bales and Cody Kilby.
At the center of it all is Cleveland, the blind, partially deaf fiddler who never fails to heat up any collaboration in which he’s involved.
Grade card: Michael Cleveland - Lovin’ of the Game - B

Avicii - Hey Brother 2013
"Hey Brother" is a dance song by Swedish DJ and record producer Avicii from his debut studio album, True (2013). American bluegrass singer Dan Tyminski provides vocals for the track. Tyminski did the vocals for "A Man of Constant Sorrow" (poll #26) from the 2000 film O Brother, Where Art Thou?.
"Hey Brother" was written by Avicii, Ash Pournouri, Salem Al Fakir, Vincent Pontare and Veronica Maggio. The song, which serves as the album's third single, was solicited to Australian radio on 9 October 2013 and later released on 28 October 2013 in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. In March 2014, a version of the track remixed by Avicii himself was released on his remix album True (Avicii by Avicii), this time featuring new vocals from singer Salem Al Fakir.
In the UK, after climbing for several weeks, "Hey Brother" peaked at number two on the UK Singles Chart on 15 December 2013. In addition, "Hey Brother" peaked at the top of the UK Dance Chart. Including previous releases "I Could Be the One", "Wake Me Up" and "You Make Me", Avicii therefore reached the summit of the UK Dance Chart four times in 2013 alone.
In the US, the song entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart at number 77 in December 2013, and rose to number 16 in March 2014. After Clear Channel personnel noticed the song's success at pop and adult pop radio, they asked Island Def Jam to craft a remix that showcases the song's instruments more prominently. Support for this remix enabled "Hey Brother" to debut, and peak, at number 59 on Billboard's Country Airplay chart in March 2014. The song would become Avicii's final song to hit the top 40 before his death in 2018.
"Hey Brother" received a total of 67% yes votes!

Skewers the superficial piety of Heaven's finest. Contrasts it with the raw grit of the real fight for what's right.

Dark & creepy, "Southern Gothic" is a fusion of grungy hip-hop beats & bluegrass twang that effortlessly channels the decrepit Americana of early Supernatural. Striking lyrics — paired with AngelDove's exquisite timing & breathtaking scene-matching — seal the deal.
A deeply satisfying, surprisingly catchy watch. One of my absolute favorite fan edits.

ALBUM REVIEW: DAN TYMINSKI "GOD FEARING HEATHEN"
Dan Tyminski of Alison Kraus' Union Station has been a committed and tenured contributor to the Bluegrass and traditional scene, and has gained recognition even beyond his genre. Dan and his bluegrass band are no stranger to success, and his latest release "God Fearing Heathen" lives up, with ease, to his past accomplishments. This album includes 10 tracks flush with tight arrangements, clever lyricism, and, of course, euphonious harmonies. Dan and his band do well in mixing a balanced piece, with a number of tracks exploring the space of lost love ("Never comin' Home") and others celebrating his immense love for bluegrass ("No Song to Sing") and Martin guitars("ode to Jimmy"). Dan performs his international cross genre collaborative piece "Hey Brother" however this time, it sits squarely in the traditional space. The album weaves a number of philosophical ideas together, but the take home message partly shares the albums namesake; There's a place in heaven for the God Fearing Heathen. Tracks such as "Silence in the Brandy" tell a somber tale of a battle hardened soldier accepting his troubled past but also simultaneously finding some value in himself and his role in this world. No album is complete without a story of an unlikely hero persevering against the odds and generally leading the hero to success yet in the track "G.O.A.T." Dan departs from the better known stories with the interesting angle of "The best flat picker no one knows". In this case we truly are left with an unsung hero and the song does well to imply one of life's greatest truisms: Sometimes the greatest among us receive no recognition, yet they continue to do what they love for the sake of it. Clever lyricism takes center stage in the tune "Occam's Razor" and showcases a true ability to wake up the listener with a mix of poignant philosophy mixed with a cautionary story about falling deeply in love with a dishonest and deceitful muse. The album in its entirety features everything that we've come to know and love from Dan and his contemporaries. If succinct and well placed harmonies are what you're looking for, look no further. All in All this album is an outstanding example of where modern bluegrass music is, was, and likely will be in foreseeable future, this album belongs in your library, for both its adept musical arrangements and also for its ability to communicate a meaningful spiritualism.

Dan Tyminski performing “God Fearing Heathen”. ______________________ God Fearing Heathen Songwriter: Dan Tyminski
Well I've cursed at Jesus with smoke on my breath      I gave Him every reason to leave me for dead Thank God He didn't, 'cause I swear I believe There's a place up in heaven for a God-fearing heathen like me
And I know those streets of gold Ain't just paved for the souls Of the straight-walking saints that don't swear, smoke, or drink It's for the losers and the winners And hard-living sinners And God-fearing heathens like me Heathens like me
Well I've danced with my demons when there's nowhere to run Could have stood in the darkness and loaded the gun But I've prayed holes in the knees of these old faded jeans For a place up in heaven for a  God-fearing heathen like me
And I know those streets of gold Ain't just paved for the souls Of the straight-walking saints that don't swear, smoke, or drink It's for the losers and the winners And hard-living sinners And God-fearing heathens like me Heathens like me
Well I've cursed at Jesus with smoke on my breath I gave Him every reason to leave me for dead
