I've been watching the Dana Terrece (and Alex Hirsch) Charity Streams, and have been trying to along with them. Specifically, with the same prompts and around the same time. The first ones, I drew on my computer, because I didn't realise that it would be on a drawing tablet . . .

animators I used to look up to—dana terrace, rebecca sugar, alex hirsch, and more—all silent about palestine.

idk. I can't even look at the owl house stuff the same way anymore. why are ppl in these fandoms just ok with this?

they used to be so loud about social issues, would do live streams to raise money for causes and charities, even went against their actual employer, disney, to lift up voices of marginalized groups.

now they're quiet af. all they do is post doodles. sugar has never once addressed any of this and has even managed to drop an album in the middle it all—as if she didnt have steven universe fans in palestine who are dying.

all three of these animators have used their platforms to speak up several times before, all this tells me is now, they're CHOOSING not to.

disappointment isn't a strong enough word.

It feels eerily familiar to the censorship and cancellation The Owl House is going through right now, which is really frustrating.

I've made that exact comparison, and you are so right. Dana Terrace has cited Steven Universe as a precursor, and she and Rebecca Sugar have even teamed up for charity streams before! These things are connected! Aaaa!!!

...but an afro-latina bisexual girl in a cute relationship with a lesbian witch, and a dark-skinned and actually humanoid non-binary character aren't?

Obviously, I realized I could draw better, or color better, if I drew through a tablet. I like my McGucket, but the Shapshifter could have been better. :(

I think my problem with modern cartoons is that, I follow all the artists on twitter. And I see them excitedly post about the sequences they storyboarded and the characters they desnged and the episodes they wrote/directed, or I tune into charity streams where they talk about what it’s like to work on the show..........

So then when I finally actually *watch* the show I’m like “yay, my Parasocial Twitter Pals worked on this show! They wrote so many interesting twitter posts about it and talked so excitedly about it on their charity streams! And I understand why they love it so much! And they worked so very hard on it!  So I like it automatically :)”

The charity stream inspired me to get off my ass and start writing the pilot to my project series... It's absolutely terrible but I saw a screenshot on Pinterest that said "you can edit a bad text but not a blank page" so I can't just stop now

Dana confirmed that Hunter hasn’t been around kids his age for a while... Which was obvious but nice to have confirmation! Also King is a canon Grom fashionista nice! He has an eye for swag but doesn’t wear clothes because he doesn’t need ‘em. He’s stylish as is.
