Li Grande Zombi is the major serpent spirit of worship among New Orleans Voodooists. In New Orleans Voodoo, snakes are not seen as symbols of evil, as in the story of Adam and Eve. Snakes are considered to be the holders of intuitive knowledge—knowing that which can not be spoken. Women often dance with serpents to represent the spiritual balance between the genders. Voodoo rituals in New Orleans almost always include a snake dance to celebrate the link to ancient knowledge. The origin of Li Grande Zombi can be traced to the serpent deity Nzambi from Whydah in Africa. According to the Bantu Creation story, Nzambi is the Creator God:
Nzambi exists in everything and controls the universe through his appointed spirits. In the beginning, only Nzambi existed. When he was ready to create, millions and millions of pieces of matter swirled around him counterclockwise until Ngombe was born. Ngombe is the universe, the planets, the stars, and all physical matters. Nzambi then created movement, and the matter that he had created began to change and drift apart. So, he decided to create a being that could traverse the universe and mediate between matter and space. Nzambi focused on a fixed point and gave life to a being who was simultaneously man and woman, a manifestation of the nature of Nzambi, called Exú-Aluvaiá.
In some groups of practices done in the south, he is also associated with the Haitian lwa known as Damballa. In others, he's associated with Blanc Dani (Dambarra Sutons for Ayida Weddo)

We Say, Bechet they say Bechet was the only man born whose solos could silence Louie Armstrong by simply the awesome strength of melodious song ringing resplendent in dulcet tones through the bell of Sidney's serpentine saxophone
they say Bechet was a Creole colored Black man who ventured forth to France land to get closer to Africa his beloved albeit estranged ancestral homeland
they say Bechet was an hombre of straight backed pride with a quick silver temper he seldom bottled inside and the swiftness of a pugilist in his ability to settle scores and, mano a mano, to batter open doors
they say Bechet was possessed by the gris gris of his grandfather who had impassionately danced beneath tall oak trees in the sunshine of Sunday breeze during weekly place de Congo gatherings and that this same Bechet directly inspired the afro-blue blowing of Coltrane's adoption of the gypsy drone that undulating high pitched moan articulated in spirit conjuring tongues & shot flickering hot out of the damballa tubing of a b-flat soprano saxophone
they say Bechet when they don't know what else to say Bechet when they speak admiringly of an exotic untamed noir beauty Bechet when they search diligently for lions within the aural jungles of the 20th century Bechet of the sweeping vibrato undammable as the torrential flow of the mighty Mississippi Bechet of amazingly graceful creativity fierce as the hand wrought iron filigrees of Black diasporan new world melodies
Bechet, Bechet, Bechet is what they say when they mean to mark the beginning, the genesis of the Black man's astonishing affair d'amour with the hybrid horn Adolph named the saxophone
Bechet they say oh how seriously huge this gigantic petite fleur played this majestic musicianeer Bechet whose mournfilled joy remains today the birth cry of Black music's jazz ascendency

Quote
“When I saw The Rite of Spring for the first time I was sitting in a theatre in Berlin, yet I was back home at the initiation ceremony. All the processes they do for the Chosen One is the same thing as when the loa [vodou spirits] decide to possess you.” The vodou initiation, called a kanzo ceremony, is the equivalent of a baptism, with song, dance and spirit possession that may send participants into a trance. Can you tell me about your own initiation? I ask Saintus. “Nooo,” he laughs warily. “This is something very personal.” In Saintus’s Rite, the loa appear: Damballa, the serpent and creator of life, Ogoun, the warrior and Marassa, the divine twins. I watch the dancers in the studio perform full-bodied choreography, with rippling port de bras, powerful poses and an exhausting climax of jolting bodies. Saintus wasn’t on board with the idea of a sacrifice, so his Rite ends with a man being possessed by a female spirit in a takeback of power. He created the work with the dancers, telling them stories about his religion, but he is insistent on not being prescriptive about what people should see. “If you don’t know vodou, you will see dance,” he says.

Erzulie - the Loa of Love and Beauty
Erzulie Fréda Dahomey, the Rada aspect of Erzulie, is the Haitian African spirit of love, beauty, jewelry, dancing, luxury, and flowers. She wears three wedding rings, one for each husband - Damballa, Agwe and Ogoun. Her symbol is a heart, her colours are pink, blue, white and gold, and her favourite sacrifices include jewellery, perfume, sweet cakes and liqueurs. Coquettish and very fond of beauty and finery, Erzulie Freda is femininity and compassion embodied, yet she also has a darker side; she is seen as jealous and spoiled and within some Vodoun circles is considered to be lazy. During ritual possession, she may enter the body of either a man or a woman. She enjoys the game of flirtation and seduces people without distinguishing between sexes. She is conceived of as never able to attain her heart's most fervent desire. For this reason she always leaves a service in tears.

OJ - Bride of Thrax: Heartbroken & Reawakened, Pt. I
In this scenario, Aura Zurie has found the demonic remains of her long-time lover Thrax who has died so many times trying to regain his humanity through the form of another. And now she intends to resurrect him in order to be with him. But she will soon find that Thrax has other plans…
Thrax x Aura
Warning: Explicit Language/Violence
Aura Zurie belongs to me
Words: 1948
The young woman Aura Zurie had just retrieved the Ancient Jar of Astaroth from a scavenger (whom had just returned from a treasure hunt in a dig site) after slitting his throat with her trusty dagger. She gazed upon the jar with her scarlet red eyes with glee and delightful hope as the jar contained the remaining ashes of the demon serial killer Thrax. Soon enough, she would be reunited with her love after all these years. She was soon back at her home in a trailer park where she prepared for the ritual.
Aura finished stitching up all of Thrax’s body parts and mending his clothing for a diminutive version of his demon form that symbolizes his dark and bloodthirsty nature. She attempts to reanimate him with the Circle of Lucifer, spreading his demon ashes from the ancient jar while chanting the Awakening Spell of Damballa from the Spellbook of Mammon. When he doesn’t awaken, she denounces the spell to be a dud.
No sooner after she gave up, her bad-boy wannabe Thorn Brokes (real name is Sheldon Fitzgerald) shows up at her trailer hoping to impress her with photographic evidence of his dark nature as well as finally sealing the deal of their “relationship”. Unfortunately, she could easily see through his ruse, knowing he’s an absolute fake unable to do the deed. She grew tired of the occult nerd’s pathetic attempts to woo her since she only needed him to obtain the items for the ritual and to keep her dark needs satisfied. She never showed any true romantic interests in him, only what he could do for her as her personal lap dog. But that soon left her mind once she discovered her homemade vessel missing from the crafted Circle and suddenly pops up next to her, she screams at the sight. Thorn/Sheldon comes over to her openly mocking the handmade monstrosity and her obsession with it, believing he wasn’t scary. Just to prove a theory, she offers to “play” with Thorn/Sheldon to which he immediately agrees from gazing at her curvaceous body, her luscious rosy lips, and into her hypnotic crimson red eyes.
She strips him down to his underwear and handcuffs the goth poser to her bed. She later comes back wearing a dark red bra with black rose trim, garter belt lingerie to match, black knee-high boots covered in thorns and rose ensembles, cream-white gloves with gold wristbands, a black-feathered boa, amber-encrusted earrings and a choker, and a demon-horn motif adorn within her hair. Her long raven hair cascaded down her delicious body with part of it done up in a bun. Thorn/Sheldon was close to getting a hard-on from just drinking in every inch of her. After a few seconds of teasing him, she places the Thrax vessel on top of him telling them “both” to watch her as she does a sexy dance.
Aura: You know, Thorn. There’s something I never told you about Thrax.
Thorn/Sheldon: (scoffs) Don’t tell me “Quack’s” one of those dolls that pisses himself.
Aura: (in a warning tone) Ah ah ah ah, I wouldn’t talk that way about Thrax if I were you. He has a very bad temper. (remove her gloves)
Thorn/Sheldon: (mockingly) Oooooo
Aura: (smiles) You see, we lived together for years. Of course, that was before the cops killed him and that was before he sold his soul to Lucifer himself, so he would one day resurface in that demon vessel there.
Thorn/Sheldon: (openly laughs) Hahahahahaa!!!
Aura: (becomes reminiscent and flashes her leg) And boy, was he ever jealous. Anybody who even so much as looked at me, Big Daddy Thrax would take care of them. Wouldn’t you, Big Daddy? We were gonna get married. God, was he an amazing lover!! (free hand roams her body) He was the best I ever had.
Thorn/Sheldon: Come on, babe. He ain’t big enough to care of a lovely creature like you.
Suddenly, the vessel starts to grow to full size becoming heavier on top of the nerd. It slowly turned its head to reveal the now live face of the killer Thrax. His eyes flashing yellow with hatred and jealousy blazing and his dreads were slightly longer than normal. He soon grew dark burgundy horns, a red tail, and sprouted a few small spikes through the shoulders of his trench coat. And everywhere his skin showed (including his face and chest) were covered in scars from his previous venture.
Thorn/Sheldon: (watches in horror and shock as this transpires, rendered speechless)
Aura: (watches in amazement as the scene before her unfolds)
Thrax: (glares with a sudden crooked grin, baring his fangs) Not that yours could ever compare to mine in a millennium, but it ain’t the size that counts, asshole. It’s whatcha do with it. (suddenly turns around facing Thorn/Sheldon)
Thorn/Sheldon: (panicked) Ah! ah!! aaahh!!!
Thrax: (rips out Thorn/Sheldon’s lip ring with his claw, then set his eyes on fire with his killer claw)
Thorn/Sheldon: (screams in agony as his lip bled out and his eyes burning horribly, completely helpless unable to move due the restraints) AAAAAAAAHHH!!!! AAAAH!! UUUUGH!!
Thrax: (cackles happy to be back in his prime once more) Haahahahahaha!!!!
Aura: (breaks into sinister laugh at the sight, giggling) Heehehehheheee
Thrax: (takes a pillow and begins smothering him death while he casually sat on top of the pillow for extra measure, continues to laugh maniacally) Ahahahahahaaaaa!!!!
Thorn/Sheldon: (muffled screams from under the pillow, struggling like crazy to break free, desperate for air) MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMGH!!!!
Thrax: (still sitting casually atop his victim screaming for mercy, soon lifts his head to gaze upon his human sweetheart) Hey, baby.
Aura: (gazes back in delight at her demon paramour) Hi.
Thrax: How ya’ been?
Aura: Okay. You?
Thrax: (confidently) Peachyyy. Actually to tell ya the truth, I’ve been kinda out it. What with my powers drifting in and out.
Aura: I know. It took me 10 years to find you.
Thrax: (notices and picks up the photo Thorn/Sheldon brought over, looking at it in disgust of such amateur skill then tosses it away) That is just sick. What are ya doin’ with this little piss-ant anyway?
Aura: (assuredly as she puts on a white satin robe) 10 years is a long time, Thrax. Besides, I was never actually with him. You know me. I’ll kill anyone, but I’ll only…sleep with someone I love.
Thrax: (looks her up and down from head to toe, taking how much more beautiful and ravishing she got in his absence, smiles going into that usual sultry tone) You look great, Aura.
Aura: (blushes) Thanks.
Thrax: I mean it, baby. I gotta be honest. I always thought you were gonna let yourself go.
Aura: (turns away in embarrassment at the compliment)
Thorn/Sheldon: (finally ceases from the screaming, dropping dead)
Thrax: (beckons Aura over with his killer claw, seductively) Come here, Beautiful.
Aura: (smiles alluringly, coming over to the bed and helps Thrax up)
Thrax takes her hand as he hovers off the bed to the floor and takes her in his arms. He leans in and kisses her passionately the first time in years. Aura wraps her arms around his strong body returning the kiss moaning, feeling that burning passion she hadn’t felt in over a decade. They soon pull from the kiss, smiling at each other. Aura then lead Thrax out of the bedroom with their arms around each other.
Thrax: (plays around grabbing her firm, round ass squeezing it pleasurably, chuckling)
Aura: (giggles from the squeeze) Hehehe stop it.
They soon were in the kitchen at the front of the trailer where Aura had prepared all of Thrax’s favorite foods.
Aura: (joyfully) Look, Thrax. I made spicy Swedish meatballs in red chile sauce and double-layered vanilla cake with jalapeno jelly in the center. Your favorite.
Thrax: (delighted) Oh, baby. You shouldn’t have.
Aura: (smiles with glee) Well, I wanted everything tonight to be absolutely perfect. (soon opens the playpen next to Thrax)
Thrax: (confused) Babe, what the hell is that?
Aura: A playpen, Silly, for the nursery. (leans beside Thrax) You know, Thrax, I still have the ring.
Thrax: What ring?
Aura: The blood diamond ring. The one you left for me. I found it on the mantle the night you were killed. I’ve never taken it off.
Thrax: Oh that. The one I got from Dolora de Umbra.
Aura: Dolora who?
Thrax: (casually) Dolora de Umbra, that heiress bitch who always leeched off her ancestors’ fortunes and taxed the hell out of people for the sake of her own greed. I strung that bitch up by the neck, torched the hell out her listening to the sweet sound of her screams, and then I dumped her body in the river. Remember? That ring is worth $5 or $6 grand easy.
Aura: (shocked) You mean…you weren’t gonna ask me to marry you!?
Thrax: (grimaces at the thought) What are you? Fuckin’ nuts? (laughs uncontrollably) AHAHAHAAAAA!!!!! AHAHAHAAAA!!! You thought-AAAAHAHAHAAAA!!! WHOOOO!! Ooh man… (calms down)
Aura: (disappointed and heartbroken, seeing that all this time he never truly loved her) You haven’t changed, Thrax. You’ll never change. What the hell was I thinking?
Thrax: (insistent in his original goal) Now the first thing we gotta do is get me out of this body Once! And! For all!
Aura: (quickly mulls it over) No.
Thrax: (narrows his eyes curiously)
Aura: (stands in front of Thrax) I think I prefer you like this. You’re actually kind cute. You’re like a life-sized demon plush toy. Is the plushie ticklish? (tickles Thrax’s bare abs)
Thrax: (unable to contain himself) No. NO!! AHAHAHAA!!! BABE, STO-AHAHEEEHEHEE!! STOP IT–AHEHEE!!! (tries to get her to stop)
Aura: (soon stops) Okay mommy’s tired. (takes Thrax’s hand, leading him near the playpen) Time to go to sleep.
Without warning, she grabs a nearby shrink charm and angrily tosses it at Thrax. He began shrinking until he was about the size of a child and Aura wasted no time vengefully throwing him in the playpen, locking it, and casting an Incarceration Spell to prevent him from escaping. She could go in the barrier, but he can’t get out.
Thrax: (panicked at first, but then tries to play it cool to win her favor) Hey, hey, baby, I get it. You’re still hooked on the domestic thing. Don’t worry, sweetheart, we’ll get hitched.
Aura: (lights a cigarette, turning around to crouch down to his level, smugly) Sorry, I’m not into short guys. (takes a puff and blows it blatantly in Thrax’s face, cackling) Nehahaahaaa!!! Ahahahaa!! Ahahaaa!!!
Thrax: (cringes at the sudden blunt in his face, getting angry) *coughs*
Aura: (walks away to the back of the trailer then turns back, continuing her smoke) My mother always said love was supposed to set you free. But that’s not true, Thrax. I’ve been a prisoner of my love for you for a very long time. Now it’s payback time.
Thrax: (officially pissed off, banging against the barrier trying to slash it open) YOU LET ME OUTTA HERE RIGHT NOW!!!!
Aura: Sweet dreams, asshole. (turns and leaves)
Aura went straight to her room, heart shattered from knowing that the love between her and Thrax was only one-sided. He had used her all these years and she wasted her entire life believing he loved her so much that he would want to be with her for eternity. But it was never meant to be. She turned on the radio [playing Crazy by Kidneythieves] and took off the ring as she curled up on her bed next to Thorn/Sheldon’s corpse with tear in her eyes. She took the blood-soaked pillow and held it to her body as she cried herself to sleep over a love that was never real.
To be continued…
