This boy really tried to be a hero and save his friends, only for everything to backfire on him, huh?
Anyways, Yamato's design didn't really change all that much. Honestly, I thought it was good even if it didn't completely scream inventor or anything. He looks like teenager being inspired to dress up like his favorite Jojo character and I respect that, tbh. His design slays while turning it into his own. And it kinda fits since it's apparent that he likes anime or similar media at the start of Chapter 6 with the way he introduced himself, but he obviously only acts that way due to the brain damage (that is probably not written very well, I think). The most I changed was the colors and added a bit more detail to his coat or changing small details like the shoulder pads on his...well, shoulders. His button-up became a dark gray, he looks like he's wearing jeans instead of white dress-up pants which I feel like fits him more, white sneakers, and changed certain colors. Like, seriously. Why is the handkerchief in his pocket both blue AND red? The red doesn't even pop up anywhere else. And for some reason the top part of his coat collar is silver??? When it's probably suppose to be the same blue of his undercoat?? At least if you're gonna make it a different color, use the gold you're already using with his shoulder pads! Anyways, I gave him goggles which I have them hanging on his hat (which I just traced, tbh, hats are the bane of my existence next to hands). The goggles are to tie in his Ultimate Inventor status and I desaturated his eyes just a tiiiiny bit. And with his hatless sprite, he is done! Also, I ended up darkening his skin. Cause...why not.
Anyways, I've been struck with the idea of Yamato reuniting with the class at the end of Chapter 3 but still suffering from his brain damage so he struggles to communicate anything, let alone the whole Plot(TM) with amnesia in the mix, but also letting us spend more time with him and see his personality peak through more with flaws and all and actually being able to interact with the others more, especially Rei and Teruya, and maybe have his FTEs developed more by dropping hints about his family, especially about how he feels about the divorce he and his dad went through (which is canon in his concept art as LINUJ specifically wrote it like that), and his regrets in how he treated Mikako at first and how he rejected her at first, which is probably the same as his father cause divorce is not easy for everyone, especially the kids, and how getting older and becoming kinder as he matured fuels him to try and be a better person and protect others, in this essay, I will-
#DRA#Yamato Kisaragi#Danganronpa Another#DRA Spoilers#sprite edit#Star's Art#obviously if I ever sit down and write that au fic#it'd probably be a lot more polished#especially since Concept =/= Execution#you can have a good idea#but if you fail to stick the landing#it'll fall flat anyways

Danganronpa Fan Executions
These are pretty much ideas I came up with for some of my Danganronpa OCs. Criticism is greatly appreciated.
High School Level Ultimate Calligraphy - Bloody Red Ink: The student finds themselves in a dark room. When light brightens their surroundings, they can find 4 Monokumas dressed as judges. The student then is challenged to create the most intricate, most beautiful creation they can and are given a set time period. For them to escape the execution, they will need at least 1 approval from any of the Monokumas. They frantically wright with the ink and brushes in the room and, once they are done, all of the Monokumas stare blankly at the papers before ripping them apart, spitting on them and trashing every single one. The student then falls from a trap door into a glass container resembling an ink bottle. The bottle starts to slowly fill up to it’s maximum with ink, and the student tries their best to stay afloat but fail. As they are slowly losing air, a Monokuma appears and breaks the bottle, setting the student free. The student gasping for air then falls into what looks to be an assembling line. From behind them, thousands of hammers appear, and they start to slowly, yet strongly, fall into the student’s body, from their legs to their head. The student’s body is pulverized, and the bloody remains are sealed into a new ink bottle.
High School Level Ultimate Perfumer - Can you find the scent?: The student is put in a garden filled with different flowers and herbs. Monokumas dressed as celebrities and rich people start to demand diferente fragrances from the student, but for every Monokuma that they displease with their perfume a meter will slowly rise, indicating that a deadly toxin will start to enter the air as it becomes full. The student fails every time to give a perfect concoction to the Monokumas, for they will never be satisfied and eventually collapse, with blood leaking from their eyes, mouth, nose, and ears.
High School Level Ultimate Archer - Pin Point the Monokuma!: The student is put in a carnival-like booth where a Monokuma dressed as a circus ringleader tasks them with finding the correct Monokuma doll hidden inside a tiny box after they are shuffled with many others boxes. For every wrong guess they take, a poisonous arrow will be shot at them. The student starts to shoot at every box they believe is the correct one, yet they miss every time. Finally, they shoot at the only box remaining, revealing it to be fake as well. Then, a Monokuma dressed as Robin Hood whistles behind the student, revealing hundreds of other Monokumas, all with bows and arrows leaking a toxic green liquid. As the student slowly looks back, all of the arrows are shot, killing the student slowly as they bleed from their wounds and the poison.
High School Level Ultimate Auctioneer - To the Highest Bidder!: The student appears chained to a luxurious chair, befitting of royalty, in front of an entire audience of sophisticated looking Monokumas. A Monokuma dressed in a copy of the student's uniform appears beside them with a microphone, announcing that the ultimate action has started and for the bears to give their bids. One of the Monokuma asks for the student's right leg for a bet of 1 million Mono Coins, then a second Monokuma offers 2 million Mono Coins, and it goes on and on until a final Monokuma offers 100 million Mono Coins. The student's leg is chopped off by 2 Monokumas dressed as doctors. Then the auction continues. All of the Monokumas proceed to offer millions of Coins in exchange of the student's extremities, but are always won over by a 100 million Mono Coin bet. Once the student is left with no arms or legs, the final bet of the night starts, their head. It becomes a fierce fight for the Monokumas but, as always, the highest offer of 100 million Mono Coins wins. The student watches in horror as a saw falls from the ceiling, chopping their head off. The final shot shown is the winner Monokumas carrying the legs, arms and head as trophies.

Mikan Tsumikis Execution: Bye Bye Ouchies!
TW!!! Gorey subject matter, syringes, needles, blood, surgery, and other hospital/medical related themes, and implied past trauma of a character
Mikan is one of my favorite characters in Danganronpa and has so much potential as a character besides fan-service or a punching bag for other characters.
Her trial and execution did her dirty, and that's not news to anyone here. It stands as one of the most unpopular trials in the franchise, and I have to agree. While I don't wanna get into the writing of the whole trial itself, I'd like to talk about her execution.
As an execution, it's lackluster, strange, and overall just disappointing (which is cruel to say, but Danganronpa is known for its executions) Some aspects of the execution make sense, such as her fear of large objects and her past trauma, but they didn't do anything creative with those concepts (Plus I'm still iffy on them including her trauma at all - it just seems to play into the over sexualization of her character, making many people believe her execution to be one last piece of fan-service before she's out of the game.) They threw a giant arm in there, then launched her into space with it. It just seemed lazy.
If you compare that to the two previous executions, it gets worse.
Teruteru was prepared and cooked alive in a volcano. It wasn't randomly thrown in there just for the sake of it - it made sense for the setting and played into his talent, then the creators turned a famous gag (tar + feathers = chicken) and implemented it into the execution (I presume it's buttermilk + flour + hot oil = fried chicken). It's all connected, it's unique, and it makes sense.
Peko willingly let herself die to the robot warriors thinking she accidentally hurt/killed Fuyuhiko. Once again, it played into her talent and made sense with her character. She was a "puppet", made to protect her young master by any means necessary. That own mentality is essentially what made her hurt/kill him in the end, filling her with despair and guilt before the very end. As a plus! It was the first execution in Danganronpa to show another student involved - Fuyuhiko had the balls to try and save her - to stop her. That made it one of the most devastating executions throughout the franchise, becoming beloved by many fans.
With Mikan...she's in a hospital bed, then thrown into an arm, and launched into space as the said arm is injected with some sort of drug. Fear of large objects? Check. Talent? Check. Played into her character? Not at all. It only came off as one last bit of fan service before she bit the dust, becoming an unforgettable execution when compared to the others in the entire series. But not for the best reasons.
Here's where I throw my ideas out there. First, addressing Mikans character.
She's a nurse and passionate about it. Likes knowing that other people's lives depend on her.
Had to learn to help herself, as no one else would.
Weird obsession with blood/gore/horror/needles/syringes/injections
Timid, paranoid, self-deprecating, meek, and fragile.
Experienced mental and physical abuse from a very young age. Bullied and used by others throughout her life.
Has an obsessive personality.
A klutz.
We could incorporate a variety of these points, but it will be easier if I simply explain my idea for Mikans execution.
Mikan appears in one of the hospital rooms on a cot, apparently waiting for something. The door opens, revealing Monokuma with a large syringe.
Mikan runs past Monokuma in fear, running out of the room and into the hospital. Other Monokumas are working in the hospital, who all eventually join in the chase for Mikan instead of helping her.
It looks like Mikan is about to escape when the door she goes through (the sign above is a poorly made exit sign merely taped on, which would later drop to reveal it as the OR) leads to an operating room. The doors would shut behind her, trapping her. I'm thinking it's one of the operating rooms that has seats so people can observe as the surgery goes on, so the seats would be filled with multiple Monokumas to observe the execution.
Another Monokuma would already be on the operating floor, dressed in scrubs. The Monokumas that were previously chasing her would bust through the doors and force Mikan towards the OR table. That's when it's revealed they intend to do a heart transplant to "save" another Monokuma. Mikan would be forced onto the table and restrained, and then the "operation" would begin.
I can imagine this would warrant a shift in style change, merely showing the silhouettes or shadows of Mikan and the surgeon to imply what's happening. Absurd shadows and body movements would imply the surgeon has not applied any anesthesia and is merely torturing Mikan, presumably cutting and maiming her. The style would shift back to normal to reveal a cartoonish heart being picked up by the surgeon, already previously wounded to match with Mikans bandages.
Then one of two things can happen here- the surgeon can make a big show of tripping and dropping the heart, rendering it useless now that it's been contaminated, then disposes of it. Or the surgeon can place the heart in the wounded Monokuma and stitch it back up, only for it to flatline, rendering it dead.
Both would make Mikans death meaningless (I think it would be pretty fucked up if she was still alive and able to witness either of the previously mentioned outcomes, then shortly flatlining afterwards) and instill that last bit of despair before the execution ends.
Mikan would flatline as well, and then, after another shadow style change that shows the surgeon covering her body, we see her covered up by a cloth. The execution would end with her blood soaking through the cloth. Fade to black, and it goes back to the game.
I can imagine this is probably an extremely gorey and horrific execution, even for DR standards, but I think it would make sense and make for a final goodbye before Mikans out of the game for good.
Plus, it aligns with some of the previous ideas I mentioned earlier, such as her obsession with blood, gore and needles. While she's the one usually in control of a medical setting, it would be flipped for the execution, forcing her to be the patient, unable to help or save herself due to the Monokumas forcing her through it. She's not in control of any of it, forced to endure it all before she finally bleeds out from her injuries. And the twist of the knife would be making her death meaningless- either from her heart being discarded, or the injured Monokuma dying regardless of the new heart.
Overall, I think this execution would be a better fit for Mikan. It incorporates her talent, relates back to her past, and ultimately full of despair.
The execution would be called: Emergency Operation!

Actually i think this is a good time to let you guys know i never watched Sdra2 chapter 4 in full
#by the time it was getting translated i already hated Nikei so much that i couldn't stand watching the chapter#the trial much less. i haven't seen a second of the chapter 4 trial#which is a shame because i feel like my hate didn't affect by ability to enjoy the story this badly chapter 4 had the potential to be my#favorite case from Sdra2 because i think the concept/structure is really interesting and unique#i just can't say if it was executed well or not since i never watched it#the furthest I've ever gotten in chapter 4 was the scene Nikei makes ths reunion at Shinji's (?) room to talk to the rest of the cast#and then I THINK that's when Mikado shows up and that Cg of the two plays#i think that's how it went. it's been years#so yes. i never even saw the cast get to the babel tower#i mean. technically i did. but i didn't watch any of the scenes from it i was just skimming over everything to see if Ayame's statue#had special dialogue#that doesn't really count#i did watch the rest of the game tho. i watched ch5 once and ch6 a while after#but ch4? yeah. i genuinely doubt I'll ever watch it in full#maybe if some friend/mutual goes through it and drags me along to watch it I'd do it? still a huge maybe tho#on my own I'm definitely not taking time of my day to watch that. I'd genuinely have less of a problem watching the Ch3 trial again#so yeah. shout out to Nikei because i never had a character i hated so much that it affected how much i get out of a story#strangely enough I don't actually mind him when it comes to fandom content#but in canon or thinking of him in the context of Sdra2? my blood boils. this is no exaggeration#hyena ramblings#sdra2#super danganronpa another 2

Fucked up Danganronpa execution idea: someone is getting executed, and someone close to them (friend, love interest, whatever) is trying to save them. For simplicity's sake, let's call the one getting executed "A" and the one trying to save them "B." So, A is going through the execution, probably unable to fight back, and B is fighting their ass off to get into the execution. However, by some miracle, B actually manages to get in. A is absolutely getting their shit rocked while B is now sprinting towards A, fighting through literally anything that stands in their way. B somehow makes it to A, who is currently doing Not Very Well™️, and they proceed to carry A on their back all the way out of the execution and back to the rest of the cast! Without looking behind them, B passes A over to someone in the group so they can get A patched up. For a moment, B is ecstatic. They can't believe they just did that! They were actually able to save their friend! And then, B turns around...and they realize...A is dead.

There is danganronpa discourse on my dash rn so im gonna rant abt danganronpa real quick i apologize in advance
I think the one major thing that danganronpa fans fail to incorporate into their perception of the series, is that the danganronpa franchise is fundamentally An Offensive Game. It is partially a product of the time and culture it was made in, yes, but those are not accurate defenses of the series when the series was made to be shocking and obscene WITHIN that time and culture.
Danganronpa has the same sense of humor and style as your average 4chan user. This is by design--the core idea of the games is putting cute highschool kids in the most fucked up situations they can get away with selling. Their main antagonist being a sadomasochist who openly gets off on forcing perceived children to kill each other is perfectly in line with the brand, because it's shocking and taboo and edgy. Incest being a major contributing factor to the overarching lore is in line with the brand, because it's shocking and taboo and edgy. One of the main recurring characters being every ableist sterotype about DID systems they could roll into one character is in line with the brand, because it's shocking and taboo and edgy. Sexual predation, and especially such against children, is a major recurring theme through the entire series for exactly this reason. Absolutely nothing the series covers, from gender identity to graphic murder to child sex trafficking, was ever supposed to be a commentary--it was there to shock you for the sake of shocking you.
This isn't to say that danganronpa isn't a really well made murder mystery franchise in terms of gameplay and story progression and character writing. It's an objectively well put together game that (usually) does an excellent job making you think and letting you feel connected to the characters whos lives are on the line. However its status as a series that thrives on tasteless Edge was never revoked or toned down throughout it's run. It is not media that you can consume uncritically. There are elements in this series that, while they can be worth enjoying, are not worth DEFENDING, because they were included with the sole purpose of being indefensible.
#toko and syo? fucking love them. massively entertaining. the series would be less enjoyable without them.#they are so extremely offensive both as a concept and in execution it is neither funny nor overlookable.#angie? adorable design. extremely interesting to watch. great interactions.#she takes overwhelming inspiration from real groups of people and religions and is undeniably an offensive caricature of polynesian people#every third character has something like this about them#please for the love of fucking god be aware and be critical of the media you consume#i feel so insanely stupid pretending im smart with an ena pfp btw#danganronpa#rant#negativity#or something#anyway yeah udg has a neat story and (implications of imo) really compelling characters#but also REALLY really like not defensibly or deniably bad handling of the topic of csa and its victims

The thing about danganrompa is that it's genuinely a really interesting concept and has fun character designs and characters that could be interesting if they were explored well but it's just. Not that great. Like it's great that some people love it but eh. It's kind of cliche and not in a subversive way. And has some horrible representation of mentally ill people and constant assault. I like the idea a lot it's just. Kinda bad. Which is sad because I really wanted to enjoy because I enjoy those kind of stories.
#danganronpa#video games#anime#i do love chihiro from what i remember#i mean#as a concept at least#i dont remember how i felt about the execution

Hey Past Me? What the Fuck.
Ouma Twins Execution Concept: “Twin Interrogation”
So this morning I came up with a joint execution where the twins die together.
The execution starts with Kurochi behind a glass wall with a bunch of consoles with buttons and dials in front of him. There is also a collar around his neck set to explode if Kokichi’s heart rate drops to zero, and Kokichi is on the other side of the glass tied down to an electic chair. Monokuma asks a question, and if Kokichi answers honestly, Kurochi must press a button to say so, and if he’s lying, he will get electrocuted.
Except all of the buttons are set to electrocute Kokichi, so no matter how he answers he gets shocked. Monokuma asks more and more questions, and Kokichi gets shocked over and over again as Kurochi frantically tries to find the button that won’t shock him, which doesn’t exist. Kokichi eventually dies from electrocution, and the collar on Kurochi’s neck explodes, killing him immediately.
Anyway Merry Christmas my gift to you all us angst.
Edit: Worse idea: the twins are given instructions that conflicted with each other on the opposite side of the walls where the other twin can’t see
For example, Kokichi is facing the glass wall and above the glass wall where Kokichi can see but Kurochi can’t, is a sign that says “If you lie, he will survive.” And on the wall behind Kokichi, which Kokichi can’t see but Kurochi can, it says “If he’s honest, he will survive.”
So the execution uses the twins love for each other to kill them.
#Kokichi Ouma#Kokichi Oma#Kurochi Ouma#Kurochi Oma#Danganronpa V3#New Danganropna V3#DRV3#Danganronpa#Execution Concept#Death TW#Electrocution TW#Exploding Head TW#???#TBH This was made before I really solidified the idea of “Executions are a character study” so#it reads more to me as a SAW trap than a DR Execution#I could probably do Better

"The pregames are the opposite of their ingames" hc is very good, but im very annoyed with how people carry it out! Do more than just making kokichi a soft crybaby, shuichi a yandere, and kaede a jerk!
Kokichi is guarded, calculated, and a (loveable sometimes, but still) asshole. So his reverse would not be an uwu soft boy, he'd probably lean more toward being kind though. Wouldnt it make more sense for this version to wear his heart on his sleeve? Not that he'd never ever lie, but he's definitely unfiltered, and couldnt plan or scheme to save his life. He's not flamboyant or loud, although maybe the reason he joins danganronpa is he *wants* to be, but instead the thing in game kokichi hates most. *Boring*. Predictable.
Shuichi being yandere makes me soooo mad. I hate it. BUT I do love him being a super fan of the games, and idolizing Kyoko. I dont think he'd be a junko fanboy, but like most fans of the game, agree that shes fun and iconic. My favorite hc I've given pregame Shuichi (or Kage i guess since thats the name people gave him for some reason?) Is that he is INSANELY confident. Did you see him in that tape!? He was so confident he was going to be a killer (but he also planned his own execution, so he knows that danganronpa would never let a killer go because that's not the point of the games, so hes got enough sense to realize that). If you havent noticed already, i reallyy like contrast and parallels, and pregame saihara being confident that he's the worlds best detective and most clever contestant is just amusing to me. I like this one a lot...<3 why does he have the hat in pregame? Uhhh idk, either he thinks it looks cool and mysterious (very likely), or he's just bad at eye contact (autism)
Kaede being Jecka from class of 09 coded is kinda funny to me tbh, but the whole "i have no faith in humanity!" line strikes me as she totally has a pinterest board of dark emo quotes and unironically believes them. You just know she tells people she has a dark and twisted sense of humor, and she loves danganronpa because shes soooo messed up. In game kaede is sweet, hopeful, and a leader, so this one is mean, doesnt believe in others, and girlfailure. I kinda love the all the same though, even if she couldnt inspire a plant to photosynthesize</3
"Wait wheres kaito" IDK WHAT TO SAY FOR KAITO. HES LIKE KAEDE BUT JOCK. IM DOING MAKI INSTEAD BECAUSE YOU LOT DID HER DIRTY.
Im so mad at peoples pregame maki. Why doesnt she get the swap treatment too, huh?! She deserves it! Maki is cold, calculated, strong, etc. So this ones my favorite. Shes a dork, she's still strong but very silly. She has a super loud laugh that she tries to cover, and i love her so so much. She definitely made her assassinsona though and showed it to tsmugi like shuichi did with his own detectivesona. Not because shes a dangan superfan! But because shes played assasins creed 5 times and can tell you how historically accurate it is with alarming detail. Shes clumsy and dorky but she is NOT weak or stupid, shes still like slightly intimidating just by sitting there (as is oma) but she wouldnt ever do anything! Shes just a lil gal!!<3 a little gal who has every historically significant posion memorized, but nevertheless!
(she listens to murder mystery podcasts with shuichi and she and kokichi are friends dont @ me.)
Ok ok, thats the end of my rant, i also kinda want to write a oneshot about shuichi and kokichis relationship because i have a super cool concept in my head. But we will see..
#Thanks for reading<33#tell me if u think i should do the others... i kinda wanna... i have Ideas for keebo specifically#Feel free to send an ask about any of this! I loveee the pregames#peyton rants#Danganronpa#Pregame#ouma kokichi#killing harmony#kaede akamatsu#Shuichi saihara#maki harukawa#Pregame drv3#Pregame kokichi#pregame shuichi#Pregame maki#pregame kaede#Pregame kaito#Kage saihara#Bonkichi#Bonkichi drv3

Lemmie ramble for a sec...
i HATE HATEHATEHATE HAAATTTEE how characters in the offical danganronpa game react to death and dead bodies! like, in danganronpa trigger happy havoc, the third execution, a MINOR (well as far as they know) is BURNED at the STAKE, ALIVE. INFRONT OF THEM... and they just yell and cry a bit..... ARE YOU KIDDING ME! LIKE, if you someone get burned alive, someone you've known for a few weeks, how you YOU react. because id be SCREAMING, SOBBING, HAVING A FUCKING MENTAL BREAKDOWN, VOMITING. like even when someone is killed there reaction last for a sold what 7 munities (in the games time, irl like 2 or smth) then they just say 'oh welp lets investiage' BRO. BRO BRO BRO. my homobrothern. NO ONE THAT AGES, acts like THAT around a deadbody, i get if you've seen one or many before but if your like fucking sonia or aoi (just a random example) who has an ultimate nowhere RELATED to bodies, and act like THAT..... id have some questions
AND THE GREAVING PROSSESS. OMG. they only remember a character when its plot relevant, or helps a character complete an arc... likeee NO that's not how that works, everyone's gonna be affected. that's a dead person they ALL knew. like, in danganronpa goodbye despair, the MOMENT chapter two started they couldn't give to flying FUCKS about imposter or teruteru, they weren't even MENTIONED unless it was related to the plot. and with ALMOST every other death!
and i bet YOUR thinking 'but its just a game they cant do EVERYTHING-' WRONG BUZZER SOUND. lets take for an example, Tetro danganronpa pink, a NON-PROFIT, PODFIC FANGAME. (not like that's a bad thing) tackles the concept of grieving better then MULTIPUL PROFESSIONAL WRITERS!! LIKE...AUGH. i love danganronpa i really do, but once i took off the autism colored glasses and played the WAY BETTER fangames... THE MAIN SORCE SUCK OMG, no hate to anyone who likes it i just had to rant about it.
#shitpost#danganronpa fangames over offical games#NOT TO EVEN MENTION THE FANSERVICE OF MINORS#danganronpa#danganronpa fangan#not to be dramatic#danganronpa rant#im jst autism#ranting#writing rant#ramblings

everyone has that one show/game/book/etc they really wish they weren't into. an interest that at the same time makes you irrationally angry. whether it be because it was a good concept with a horrible execution or something else i'm pretty sure we all have That interest. i wanna know what yours is, i'll start: mine is danganronpa
#danganronpa induces angry rants in me but it had. SO MUCH POTENTIAL#oh and also harry potter doesn't count. that's the only wrong answer i better not see it#okay have fun

like none of it was intentional bc kodaka can't write women for shit but death of the author yadda yadda it's more interesting in my opinion to portray her this way your view is valid either way whatever whatever. but like. shirogane DOES have a personality under all that, however marginal it was.
shirogane is quick to downplay stuff she's passionate about, but incredibly insecure whenever anyone believes her comments disparaging her skill. she's an incredibly lonely person who dedicates herself to her fandom as a way to entertain herself. she claims that someone like her wouldn't be motivated enough for any other aspirations. and in believing that, she's sealed her fate to confirm it.
despite supposedly volunteering for the "do weird shit until ppl to kill each other" game, she refuses to go into the neo world program, fight monokuma, go through the death road of despair, etc, until everyone else pressures her into it. when reflecting on tojo and hoshi's actions in chapter 2, she concludes that it would be easier to not think about anything that seems too hard to fix.
she obviously didn't start off v3 trying to make friends with the other players. she shrugs off akamatsu's flirting when they meet and react angrily to amami's attempt to join in on their nail art party. she's aloof with gonta at the start of chapter 3 and tells him that he's not a gentleman to his face.
but then angie makes her join the student council and in future chapters she's constantly hanging out with yumeno, gonta, or kiibo in daily life. she recognizes gonta as a gentleman at the end of chapter 3 and defends him in the third and fourth class trials. she and yumeno have a constant back-and-forth in later chapters that break up dramatic tension sometimes but show their friendship nonetheless.
she had no reason to be suspicious of ouma before the chapter 4 trial. if anything, she and monokuma both would have believed he was helping them by inciting a murder. but she still calls him out whenever he mistreats gonta, despite otherwise being proud of her ability to not attract any attention.
in chapter 5, you actively have to seek her out one night by going to the opposite side of the school to where your story-relevant event is. there, here, shirogane is stargazing because gonta mentioned it in chapter 2. and she reflects that she's grateful to him because before, she never out of her comfort zone because failure was painful. but now she's remembered that taking that risk can be rewarding. that's my interpretation of the dialogue anyway. it's kind of allegorical.
and again, i doubt that most, if any of this, was intentional on kodaka's part. the point of shirogane's character as relevant to the themes was that she's supposed to be a nothing character because she's a representation of the wider corporatized fandom culture that the writers wanted to critique. she's supposed to have nothing going on for her other than fandom, and i think that point was clear, even if you do read into her character like i do.
and like you can also make the claim that everything shirogane did in the game was a character she made up and that she's actually a Completely Different Person And Didn't Care About The Cast At All but that's. just a lot less interesting to me? it's a common problem in betrayal plots. shirogane's at least pleasant enough for the characters, if not the audience, to have an emotional attachment to her at the end. if you just shrug and say she was playing a bit all along, i think it undercuts the feeling of betrayal the cast was supposed to feel. there's a reason they had her stick around and make friends with everyone the whole game instead of faking her death like junko enoshima.
ppl portray tsumugi shirogane as a sadist who hates the rest of the v3 cast and treats them as disposable and its like. ok i get the knee-jerk reaction to flatten a meanspirited representation of the average dr fan into a cartoon villain. and i'm not denying that she's at least like. kind of sadistic to be doing what shes doing. but i feel like that sandpapers away a lot of the nuance you COULD get out of her character you know?
#shut up pandora#ndrv3#danganronpa#tsumugi shirogane#v3's funny like that bc it has so many things it wanted to do#and it actually accomplished almost none of it#like i see your concepts! your ideas are very interesting!#the execution (haha) was shit tho sorry man#man shirogane could have been such a good character if only she were a good character#like 50% of her character is fleshed out through bonus dialogue you only get by scouring the whole school every time youre able#and the other 40% is through her free time events#and bc shes so boring in the actual plot most ppl only play her ftes in salmon mode after they find out about the mastermind thing#and almost no one gets all the bonus dialogue#and even when you get all the dialogue she's only fleshed out to the consistency of like#room temperature salami
