Fun question:

If Caladin (as well as daliah and her husband, if you wanna add them to this) was an animal- any animal, any singular normal animal you'd find irl, (no fantasy creatures or magically turning into one or being a half animal hybrid, just being a full regular animal) what would he be? 👀

I think both Caladin and Dahlia would be Persian Leopards!

They’re nocturnal hunters and fairly territorial. Typically, they’ll live in small groups of one male and one or two females- or on their own. They exhibit arboreal behavior (dragging prey into trees) and are native to Iran, Iraq, Turkey, and other middle eastern nations. They’re currently a threatened species due to poaching.

I picked this partially because of the arboreal behavior and ambush tactics used in hunting, something I think suits the Zahra siblings- but also because like most big cats, they do the thing where you can hold their teeth???? Dunno what it’s called. It’s very cute tho.

As for Dani??? He’s a red Fox. No questions asked.

So sorry for the absolute mess I’m about to spew but???

I’ve been spinning Raziel around in my head the past week or so and I’ve come to a very interesting realization about him and Daniyal???

(Not sure how accurate, but whewwww)

I think I’m a better world, a different time, (maybe the modern au), they are extremely similar people at their core???

It’s something about how for Daniyal, he has two people. That’s it. They’re just *his* people, and no one else has ever really mattered. He doesn’t emotionally attach to people in the “normal or correct” kind of way. Even as a doctor who is borderline murderous at the violation of patient consent, his reasoning lies less in helping others (even innocents) and more the satisfaction he gets- the pride, the puzzle.

At a base level, before everything else happened around them or to them, I think Daniyal and Raziel had a similar relationship with socialization and being alive??? Which is very odd for me to think about, because I think the main contrast in their lives that caused the divergence of fates away from being the same is:

Things happened *to* Raziel. And that shaped him.

Things happened *around* Daniyal. And that shaped him.

And it’s inherently different in a way I can’t quite explain???

Like two identical coloring sheets.

I dunno. Crazy Daniyal rambles because he’s giving me the feelings.

Daniyal is not the priority relationship for either Dahlia or Caladin. He’s aware of this. It doesn’t bother him. He knows that relationship is something he can’t replicate.

But as a result of things happening to them instead of him- and partially because of his influence, his relationship with both Zahra siblings has an air of “I miss her and I blame you.”

Both with how Daniyal’s pushing is what inevitably caused Dahlia to push over the edge and awaken as a resonator

And how Caladin is inherently enraged, distant, and mildly terrified of both Dahlia and Dani upon being set free??? Knowing he’s fundementally alienated from his family by choice because of what they’ve done: even when they think they’re right??

In a nutshell: Dani has a smaller emotional range than the average person. He’s a bit more “That’s mine” with his relationships, and tends to ruin things he touches. This doesn’t bother him because he never “ruins” something he can’t “fix.”

hohoh this is delicious lore i am eating up, but i definitely think you're right that they're similar and yet different.

i feel like if you put the same coloring page in front of both of them you'd get wildly different colors and interpretations of that page alone.

i like that dani's approach seems to be "even if you break i can fix it" where as raziel is more like "you'll break when i tell you to". they both seem to crave a level of control, but raziel's is definitely driven from more a internal factor from what was done to him and not really from the actions that happened around him.

i definitely think that if these two had a chance to meet long before the ThingsTM happened, they would have been extremely similar.

i like thinking about these two. how similar they are at their core, and how things could have been different for these two and how it seems like, even though they've veered off into different directions, at the core they still want some layer of control and understanding. dani in solving and playing with the puzzles, deriving satisfaction from it; and raziel who desires to direct the flow of the water and command where and when it flows, deriving satisfaction from it's obedience.

i feel like the best part is knowing that these two are probably 100% aware of what they're doing, and don't care what others think. the things they do are not for others' pleasure or acceptance; they're just doing what they think is the best course of action.

The original idea was just kind of a silly thing where is was the “wives” (Dahlia and Raziel) being at each others throats and one of the few reasons Daniyal and Asaro got along is because they both had roughly the same level of infatuation with their spouses???

I don’t think this would be enough to start a “friendship” (if you could call it that)

But I think it’s a silly little thing.

I’m not quite sure how this would work because I *do* remember reading Asaro’s backstory with the Fractsidus and I think that’d be a difficult hurdle to overcome- especially for Daniyal because he was a doctor first and I feel like he’d have his hands in every single experiment going on???

Say somehow what happened with Asaro wasn’t under his guidance or something- then I could see them meeting slightly less hostile???

I’m thinking they either meet the first time a full Fractsidus platoon is sent to the archipelago, *or* that’s already happened and now Dahlia and Raziel are meeting for the first time to negotiate.

Honestly, both are bad :’)

I often compare Daniyal to a weasel, a wet cat, or a kicked puppy- but not in the same way Asaro reminds me of a guard dog???

Daniyal is equally protective of his partner, but not of his people. He’d also willing to make decisions for his partner that she won’t like- because he’d do anything to further their goals and put their family back together. It’s all about foresight with him, so he’s not afraid to piss Dahlia off in the short term.

If Dani and Asaro met for the first time with their partners, honestly I’m sure someone would die. Probably a lot of underlings.

And I realized I nerve talked to you directly about it???

Anyways- Daniyal is one of my OCs who as of right now (because we don’t have in game lore on it yet) is one of the main Fractsidus founders.

And Cryptid and I have had a running gag that while Dahlia (his wife) and Raziel are at each others throats but will begrudgingly cooperate- Dani and Asaro probably get along fairly peacefully in comparison :3

i really like this! apologies for the late reply, i was at work :)

asaro does not like the fractsidus, and revels in being able to take the lives of lower-ranking fractsidus artificers when they step out of line when the fractsidus deal with the convent.

asaro is like an agitated lion … a hungry agitated lion. most days, he only needs half a reason to strike, but if you catch him on a bad day, just looking at him is reason enough. many agendas are behind his reasons—sure, protect raziel and loyal members of the convent come into play, but a valid reason to him can purely just be “i don’t like you”.

however! i like the juxtaposition that raziel and dahlia begrudgingly cooperate and daniyal and asaro get along quite peacefully.

… i’d love to discuss with you how asaro and daniyal came to get along with one another, as daniyal likely needed to perform some sort of grand placation first, as again, asaro does not like the fractsidus and just tolerates them.

I really love my spider ocs and the world they have cause like

I wanna make a joke that many of the adults are abnormally tall (due to radiation in the areas) so doc ock is 7'2 and sandman is 8'9 feet tall. Osborne is generally a normal height of 6'0.

And Miguel absolutely despises that cause he's now shorter than most of the adults in Nicky's universe. Daniyal is 7'4 and towers over most spider people.

Nicky at 17 is 6'0 tall and everyone is silently hoping she doesn't magically grow taller.

Another joke (or sad fact depending how you see it) is Nicky's universe is very VERY far from other universes, so for Miles a year can pass, and he can meet up with Nicky after said year...and she's MUCH older. Like she would be 17 after a year of Miles' not contacting her.

Which.. does happen in my head. He met her when she was 12 and when they meet again she's 17.

Miles was suddenly like a big brother, now she's his age? And so much taller than him?? Oh it definitely boggled Miles a bit.

(btw Miles could be in Nicky's universe for months and only two days pass in his universe so at least there is that)

Gave myself a mini heart attack

I opened my story I’ve been on a roll with, which I had just finished removing the 2010ish fanfic roots literally two hours before, and every all 8 new pages and every edit was gone.

A month or two of work just gone.

I started clt-z like crazy and that doesn’t work. This story is trapped on a 14 year old laptop that I’m locked out of the admin on so can’t get to the internet so it hasn’t been backed up on a third location in…ever

So I opened the folder with all the spy stories in it and pull up the file that has the same name as the one that’s already open

And when I tell you THAT WORKED

There where just two files with the same name *somehow*

So I took pictures of the fic so I’d have something to rewrite from if I ever did lose it and emailed them to myself
