Past Fights and Bloodlines

Pairing: Danny Williams x McGarrett!reader, Steve McGarrett x McGarrett!reader (Cousins)
Characters: McGarrett!reader (Cousin), Steve McGarrett, Danny Williams, Chin Ho Kelly, Kono Kalakaua
Warnings: Fluff, hehe I love this so much, Danny and reader met once years ago, I am hinting at the one wresting movie Scott Caan did in the early 2000′s, why was this so much fun to write?, this is purely Hawaii Five-0 crack, Steve acting more like an older brother than he does a cousin, reader wants Danny for herself and Steve can’t stop you, ignore Chin’s one semi cringey comment (no regrets)
Word Count: 1,382
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"There's a fight in town," Steve brings up out of nowhere as you mess with the items on his desk.
"And?"
He watches you, wondering why you’re not as enthused as him. "And? I'm asking if my favorite cousin wants to go."
You glance up at him with furrowed brows. "Steve, I'm you're only cousin."
He rolls his eyes. "So, you wanna go or not?"
"I never said no. Let's go." You push yourself out of your chair.
"It's not for another three hours."
You spin around to stare at him, holding the back of the chair. "Yeah, I know. You're treating me to dinner before we go."
"Oh, am I?"
"You dragged me here for a case, the least you can do is take me to dinner."
"I like her," Danny smiles, standing in the doorway of Steve's office.
"Shut up, Danno."
You take a step away from the chair and smile at your cousin's partner. "Thank you, Daniel."
"Danny," he corrects you.
"Daniel sounds better, I'll use Danny for when you're in trouble. Don't cross me."
He nods and looks away from you. "Don't cross you, got it."
"Now if you'll excuse us. Steven and I are going to dinner and then go to the fight."
"Ooh, where you guys going?"
"Don't know," you shrug. "You wanna come. He's paying."
Steve stands up, trying to chime in. "He doesn't-"
"I'd love to. Thank you for inviting me."
"We have much to talk about."
"Yes, yes we do." He holds his arm out, gesturing for you to go out first.
"Thank you."
"Of course, I'm not an animal."
"No, you are not. You're more polite than some people."
Danny smirks as you two walk by Chin and Kono.
Steve exits his office and mutters to himself. "I'm going to regret this, aren't I?"
"Not at all, boss," Kono pats his shoulder.
"It's going to be an entertaining night for you," Chin adds.
"I don't like you two right now."
"That's okay. We still love you, big Kuhuna."
Steve shakes his head and jogs out of the room, needing to catch up to you two before more bonding happens.
-
"I'll be back, do either of you want a beer or something?" You ask.
Steve nods, giving you, his order.
"No thank you. I'd like to be able to get through story time without any issues."
You nod. "I'll be back."
It takes you a few minutes before you make it to the seats. "Oh sorry. Excuse me. Coming through." You managed to get on the opposite side from where the others were and sigh, walking back towards them.
"Sorry, excuse me." You start walking down the aisle. "Excuse me."
You're three people away from your crew.
"I finally made- woah."
Danny places his hands on your waist, preventing you from bumping into him and him into you.
You smile at him, "thank you, Daniel."
"No problem."
"Steve, your drink."
Once you get situated, you begin to relax.
You scream and shout for the wrestler you want to win, which makes Danny raise a brow. Not entirely expecting you to be so into it.
You enjoy yourself until someone bumps into you, spilling your food. "Hey, jerkwad."
The guy turns around and shrugs you off.
"You spill my food; you pay for another."
"You're the one that was in my way."
"Are you serious?"
"Go bug someone else lady."
"Oh, you-"
Danny grabs you and pulls you back before you can attack the rude guy as Steve steps forward, taking care of the situation. "Let's not hurt the guy, no matter how rude he was and sit back down."
"I don't even care that he bumped into me, and I spilled my food. It's the price. I paid for Steve's beer and my small snack which is now on the floor-"
"I know. How about this, after the match. I take you out to get something to make up for his jerky behavior."
You spin around in his arms, staring at him for a few seconds. "I think we can arrange that, and I promise I won't keep you for long since you have story time tonight."
"I appreciate that."
"Then it's a date."
"A- a date?"
You think he doesn't want to go on a date with you, making you rethink your question. "Not a date?"
"No, no. I never said that."
"Good, I think we'll have a good time."
-
"Why're you so happy?" Steve asks you as you step inside.
"No reason. I'm going to bed. Night."
"No, no. Get back here and tell me why Danny just pulled out of my driveway."
"I was on a date."
"You are not allowed to date coworkers."
"I can date whoever I want. It's not like any of you have ever followed that rule."
"This is different-"
"Why? Because I'm your family and you don't want William’s blood to taint the McGarrett bloodline if we ever get that far."
"Oh, gross!"
"Grow up, Steven. He's going to be coming around a lot more, whether you like it or not."
-
Danny texted you saying he's here.
You walk down the stairs with a pep in your step as you stand in front of the door, fixing your hair (Danny does the same). "Hi, Daniel."
"How many times am I going to tell you to call me Danny."
"Every day, if you'd like."
"Oh, is that right?" He smirks.
"Come on in. I'm about to make coffee. You want some?"
"I would, thank you." He barely takes his eyes off you as you close the door.
“You’re really into the fight, when- uh- when that’d happen?”
You shrug, “I’ve always been into wrestling.”
“You reminded me of this one time; I went when I was a teenager, and I took this guy I knew years ago. We sat next to this girl who was basically like you were yesterday and then my friend came back and bumped into her, spilling everything she got all over the lap.”
“The same thing happened to me. My family and I just moved to this one town and my dad was working while mom was doing her thing in the navy. I was having a bad day and I- wrestling was my only out. I never participated in it but watching it was my escape. Anyway, this dumbass came around and bumped into me. His friend pulled him away before I could, well, do anything.”
“Oh, really?” He asks with interest. “The girl my friend ran into reached over me and socked him. I think-”
That reminds you of the scar on your hand. “Yeah, and I ripped my knuckle on his braces.”
“- She ripped her knuckle on his braces.”
Your eyes widen. “Holy.”
“Wow.”
You clap your hands together. "How about breakfast?"
"Are you cooking?"
"Steve's not back from his run yet, so it'll be me cooking."
"I'll accept."
You push him away, letting him settle on top of the counter on the side of the stove. "How about you make the coffee and I work on breakfast?"
"Deal."
"Do you know how the coffee machine works?"
"I think I can figure it out."
"Great, you get started on the coffee and I'll do my thing."
Steve locks the door behind him and opens his mouth to call out for you, only to hear laughter coming from the kitchen. He rolls his eyes and wanders to the kitchen. "I don't like this."
"Too bad. He's hot and I like him."
"Please don't ever say that again."
"No, please say it again. I'm what?" Danny smiles at you.
"You're hot and I like you."
"Thank you. You, yourself look phenomenal."
"You're such a charmer."
"I'm going to the office before I need to bleach my eyes."
"Okay, just hope we don't need to bleach the kitchen."
Danny's eyes widen and his jaw drops.
You cover his mouth and quietly shush him. "Go along with it," you whisper.
"If I smell even a drop of-"
"Go away, Steve." He shakes his head and walks out of his house, trying to erase any kind of traumatic vision you put in his mind.
"Did you figure out the coffee machine?"
"I think I broke it."
"I'll buy him a new one later."

[A/N: I DID IT! I finished my Steve x reader undercover op fic, and I kind of love it??? I hope those of you who were looking forward to it enjoy it too 😈🖤 Thank you to everyone who encouraged me to write this as a full blown fic! Over 5.7k words hehe whoops]
—————
When your former mentor had contacted you about an opening at her coral reef research lab, moving from Camden to Oahu had been a no brainer. You’d packed up your life in New Jersey and been on a plane to the Aloha State within a week. Your favorite cousin, who’s truthfully more like the big brother you always wanted, had been elated to hear the news, welcoming you at the airport with open arms and two simple rules.
“Always answer the phone when I call so you don’t worry me to death,” Danny had said, holding up one finger, “and two,” he added a second, “you’re an adult and you can date anyone on this island-”
“Thank… you?”
“-but stay away from this schmuck.”
The schmuck in question had simply rolled his eyes, draped a beautiful lei around your neck, and greeted you with a warm hug. “It’s nice to finally meet you. I’m Steve.”
Your confident promise to your cousin had been broken a whopping two months later- and no, you hadn’t ignored one of his phone calls.
“Did you get me a beer?” you ask with a teasing lilt to your voice, wringing out your wet hair before dropping down onto the bench beside your boyfriend. A quick glance around reveals that Danny’s over by the shrimp truck with Kamekona, and you lean forward to steal a kiss before putting some space between yourself and your favorite brunette.
“I surely did not,” Steve sasses back and takes a swig of his ice cold beverage. “Alcohol and diving do not mix. But I did happen to get a mango smoothie from that one place down the road this pretty girl I know really likes.”
“Oh yeah?”
“Mhm,” he responds, a goofy grin spreading across his handsome face. “But, uh, she didn’t show, so I guess you can have it.”
You laugh and give him a playful shove, then let out a content hum as you pop the straw through the lid and take a grateful sip. “So good,” you moan in delight, and Steve has to bite his lip to refrain from making a comment when he spots Danny approaching the table with your regular orders.
“Hey, you.” Your cousin greets you with a kiss on the cheek before taking up residence on the bench across from you and Steve. “Why’re you sitting all the way over there, huh? You like that clown better or somethin’?”
“This guy?” you snort, taking your lunch off the tray and rifling through the napkins in search of a fork.
“Ouch.” Steve winces as if burned by your comment, and you surreptitiously squeeze his thigh beneath the table.
“So tell me about this case you’ve got,” you coax your cousin to change the subject, spearing some grilled veggies on the plastic fork’s tines and scooping up a respectable mound of rice on top.
“So there’s a diamond smuggling ring-” Danny starts, and you immediately cut him off with, “Shut up, that doesn’t happen in real life.” You turn to Steve for confirmation, but there’s no provocative arch to his eyebrow or twitching of his lips to suggest this is a joke. “Are you serious right now? BFFR, Danno.”
“I don’t- I don’t know what that means. Why are you making me feel old?”
“Be fucking for real,” you and Steve supply in unison, and you smile proudly at him. “You’re learning!”
“Between you and Gracie, I keep up, okay?”
“Oh, between my baby cousin and my daughter, you- okay, that’s excellent,” Danny proclaims, his tone indicating it’s anything but. “Anyway, they’re using poker games as a cover to uh, collect their product, shall we say.”
“There’s enough rich people on Oahu with actual diamonds?” you ask, incredulous. “And here I am working like a pleb for paper currency.”
“Word,” Steve seconds your statement, raising his beer in a toast. You clink your smoothie against it before taking another refreshing sip and asking, “So how’re you gonna catch them?”
“Well, there’s a high roller tournament on Friday night that we’re betting they’ll hit. We wanted to go in undercover and flush them out but…” Steve trails off and gazes at you thoughtfully, but Danny’s shaking his head before the words have even formed on the brunette’s lips.
“No, absolutely not. Don’t even think about it, Steve.”
“What?” You turn to him, excitement coursing through your veins at the way his eyes have lit up. “Think about it! And tell me what you’re thinking about.”
“You could go undercover with me to the tournament, help me gather some intel. Maybe we get you to confirm the diamonds are actually in their possession and-”
“No!” Danny chimes in again. “What’s the matter with you, huh? These guys have killed two people, Steve. It’s too dangerous for her.”
“First off, fuck that-”
“Language.”
With an eye roll, you amend, “Forget that. More importantly, shouldn’t Danny go undercover? You kind of suck at poker, Steve.” You feel a sharp pinch at your side and you yelp in protest, slapping at the Navy SEAL. “It’s true, you little-”
“You’re not going,” Danny says definitively. “What about Tani?”
Steve shakes his head. “Tani and Junior have already questioned two of the men involved. They’ll be made before they even get to the table.”
You cross your arms and level your cousin with a smirk. “Sounds like you need me, Danno.”
“Then I’m going with you,” he declares.
“Yeah, no, hard pass,” you backpedal. “Even as a former thespian, there’s no way I can convincingly play arm candy for you without it being weird.”
“So, it’s settled then, little Williams,” Steve says with a grin. “You and me. Friday night. The high roller table at the Ilikai Hotel.”
__________
“This whole affair is giving very much Ocean’s Thirteen,” you remark as you lean into the mirror to line your puckered lips with Devil’s Den red. “The diamond heist, the poker game… it’s all so exciting.”
“Except this isn’t Hollywood and a bullet will actually hurt,” your cousin ever so graciously reminds you, trying to tug the slit ends of your dress together and then grunting in displeasure when the action reveals more of your bare back. “You’ve gotta be kidding me with this dress, babe,” he tuts. “Why’s it so expensive if it’s missing half the fabric, huh?”
You shrug and answer with a smile, “Don’t ask me! Your buddy picked it out.”
“Oh yeah, I bet he did,” Danny grumbles under his breath. “I mean, you’d be the most beautiful woman in the room if you were wearing a paper bag, but this- this dress-”
“Danno,” you laugh, completing the finishing touches on your makeup before turning around to squeeze his shoulder. “Remember one of the first things you said to me when I stepped off the plane?”
“Don’t date Steve?” he offers hopefully with a grimace.
That ship has sailed and it’s not docking anytime soon, you think wryly. “No, you goofball,” you respond instead, “that I’m an adult. Everything’s going to be fine!”
“Alright, okay, but just- just promise me you’ll be smart tonight and play it safe.”
With three fingers held aloft, you answer solemnly, “I promise.”
“And don’t let Steve talk you into doing something stupid, okay? No honeypot insanity or trying to sneak into rooms or anything, you got it?”
You press your lips to your cousin’s cheek and then wipe away the smudged lipstick. “Relax, Danny. The man’s a former SEAL. What could possibly go wrong?”
You open the door of the en-suite bathroom with a small smirk tugging at your lips as Danny splutters on behind you in answer to your incendiary question.
As soon as your stiletto touches down on the carpeted floor of the luxury hotel room, you’re hit with an enthusiastic, “Woah, baby!”
“You like?” you ask with a grin, holding your arms out at your sides and giving Tani a spin to show off the dress.
Tani laughs appreciatively and lets out a low whistle. “You are smokin’ hot. I am looking… disrespectfully,” she concludes after pretending to mull over her word choice. She sneaks a glance over at her boss who’s trying and failing to draw his gaze away from the high slit that’s showing off a majority of your leg, then steps closer to you and drops her voice. “And I’m not the only one.” You shush your friend quickly and she ducks away from your playful smack with another peal of laughter.
“Wow,” Steve breathes out, practically sporting heart-eyes as he drinks in the black silk hugging every curve of your body. His piercing blue eyes blaze a trail of heat from the stilettos on your feet to the low bun your hair is swept into, and you feel your skin grow warm under his attention.
“You look pretty wow yourself,” you remark, appreciating the smart tux he’s donned, the perfectly tailored suit accenting every defined muscle on his powerful body. The blush on your face deepens when your gaze meets his, catching a glimpse of a hungry predator on the prowl.
“No, but you, Y/N,” Steve counters, his voice a low growl, “you just- I mean- wow.” He looks ready to pounce, and you’re positive he would forego the event in lieu of spending the evening in bed if there wasn’t a case riding on your performance tonight- and your cousin who you’re keeping your relationship a secret from less than a foot away.
Danny snaps in his face, directing the brunette’s attention to him. “Don’t you gawk at her like that. Paws off my baby cousin, you hear me? Better use the right head tonight, Steven, I swear.”
You dart your eyes over to your boyfriend and make an intentionally obscene gesture with your hands, indicating which head you’re thinking about. He covers up his laugh with a cough, then hurries to reassure his partner. “Danno, c’mon. I’m a perfect gentleman. Aren’t I, Y/N?”
“You’re an animal, is what you are,” your beloved cousin continues his tirade, answering for you. “Just remember I’m watching, huh? I’ve got eyes on all the cameras.”
“Alright, people, focus now,” Lou admonishes gently, handing you and Steve small communications devices that you fit snugly into your ear, out of plain sight. “Y’all remember the plan?”
“Stand there and look pretty. Don’t get shot at,” you dutifully list off your objectives for the op with an exaggerated waggling of your eyebrows while Steve tests the microphone tucked away in his bow tie. “As an unofficial member of Five-0 now, do I get a gun?”
“Are you insane?” Danny cries as Steve asks, genuinely, “Where would you even hide a gun in that dress?”
Unable to resist, you shoot him a coy smile and challenge, “Wouldn’t you like to know, Commander?”
“Woah.” Your cousin holds his hands up between the two of you and declares, “Flag on the play. Don’t- Don’t do that. No flirting. Get in, entice Lee to steal your fake diamonds, get out. Deal?”
“We’ve got it, Detective,” Steve huffs, bending down to adjust his ankle holster.
Junior approaches then with a gorgeous looking diamond necklace and announces, “Got our bait here, boss.”
“Excellent,” Steve says, taking the jewelry from him and motioning for you to turn around. He gathers the necklace in one hand, his fingers drifting across your shoulder and collarbone to grasp one end before he fits it snugly around your neck. The simple touch has your veins flooding with heat, but you tamp down your reaction, keenly aware of the multiple sets of eyes on the two of you. “Tight enough?” he murmurs, and you nod in response, not yet trusting your voice.
“Oh, and one more thing!” Lou reaches into his pocket and pulls out a box, opening it with a flourish to reveal one simple silver band, the other studded with diamonds. “Little extra bling for good measure.” Your cheeks flush at the sight, and you turn your face away from Steve while you slide the wedding ring onto your finger.
One glance at its mate on your boyfriend’s hand has you weak in the knees, and Tani whispers, “Girl, you are down bad.”
“Shut up,” you hiss, fighting the blush threatening to give you away. Steve approaches with one eyebrow raised in curiosity, and you clear your throat before taking the arm he’s offered to you. You tuck your hand into the crook of his elbow, pressing yourself close to him and sending a sharp look to your older cousin when you feel his eyes boring holes into the two of you. “Knock it off, Danny.”
He cups your face between his hands and pulls you closer to press a kiss to your forehead with an apologetic smile. “Be smart. Be safe. I love you. You watch her back, okay?” He directs the last comment to his best friend with all the gruffness of a father sending his daughter off to prom.
“I will, Danny,” Steve answers solemnly, squeezing your hand.
“Alright, buddy. But not too close, okay? Remember, I’m always watch-”
You pull the door shut behind you with a sigh. Steve guides you down the hallway towards the elevators, and your grip on his arm tightens at the prospect of what you’re about to do.
Steve immediately intuits your nerves and offers a soothing, “Hey, you’re okay.” He takes your left hand in his, his right hand coming to rest on the small of your back so you feel completely enveloped by his steadying presence. He lets his thumb drift back and forth across your skin, just above where the fabric drapes at the base of your spine, and your comms come crackling to life. “Higher.”
Steve shifts his hand up with a chuckle, and your cousin begrudgingly remarks, “Better.”
The moment relieves some of your tension, and you shake your head before pressing the call button for the elevator. The lavish gold doors open to reveal an already sizable group dressed to the nines and clearly heading to the big casino-sponsored event downstairs. Steve applies gentle pressure on your back to guide you into the elevator, and as you descend each floor and the crowd grows, you’re forced closer together in the corner. “You’re wearing a new perfume,” Steve comments, his lips right by your ear to avoid your conversation being picked up by his mic.
“How observant,” you reply. “My boyfriend bought it for me.”
“He has excellent taste,” he continues the charade, and you resist the urge to roll your eyes at the compliment. With the crowd in the elevator blocking the camera’s view, Steve allows his fingers to glide down your spine until they reach their intended destination, and he sucks in a sharp breath when he realizes you’re not wearing anything under your dress. You smirk to yourself but quickly lose the upper hand, forced to swallow down a gasp when the elevator doors open into the lobby and Steve brazenly palms your ass while calmly stating, “Target acquired.”
“We see him, too,” Junior affirms. “East corner of the lobby, talking to the concierge.”
“Come on, darling,” Steve croons, settling into character- or rather dropping your usual act. “Let’s go win me some more money to spend on you.”
__________
“No entry without invitation, sir.”
You crane your neck to look up at the beefy bodyguard at the entrance to the high roller section. His biceps must be the size of your head, if not bigger, he’s got at least 6 inches on Steve, and his hulking form is completely blocking your view of the room behind him.
“Honey,” you murmur, “you brought it with you, didn’t you?”
Steve gives you an easy smile and pulls a gold-plated poker chip from the breast pocket of his tux. “Of course, my love.”
“Alright, enough with the cutesy nicknames,” Danny gripes, and you’re forced to stifle a laugh at Tani admonishing him in the background. The security guard pulls back the velvet rope to let you pass, and you duck behind the curtain to cross into the high roller area.
The room is a sea of expensive suits and sparkling cocktail dresses. A thick cloud of sweet-smelling smoke has settled in the air from the Cubans lit around the room, and the distinct symphony of ice clinking in glass tumblers joins the hum of dealers murmuring at their tables.
“Why don’t you go get us a drink and I’ll find a table to join?”
“The usual?” you purr in question, running your manicured fingers across the lapel of Steve’s suit.
“That’s perfect,” he assents, squeezing your hip before releasing you to do your own recon. Then you feel his fingers lace through yours and he murmurs, “Y/N, wait.” When you turn back to Steve, he tugs you closer by your connected hands and presses his lips to yours in a kiss that has your head buzzing before a drop of alcohol has even hit your tongue. “Lee’s watching,” he whispers against your mouth by way of explanation.
“Then let’s give him something to look at,” you respond with a glint in your eye, winding your arms around his neck and pulling him in for another kiss. Steve’s left hand comes up to rest on the nape of your neck as the other caresses the diamond fitted snuggly against the hollow of your throat, making sure that it catches the light just so as you lay the groundwork for your operation tonight.
“He’s practically suffocating her,” Danny cries in the hotel room upstairs, hands raised while he stares at the two of you in disbelief. “What’d I say about ‘not too close’, huh? Animal.”
“Okay, lovebirds, get some air,” Lou chuckles over your comms. “Seems like our man Lee has his eye on the prize now.”
Junior leans over to Tani as he watches the two of you part ways on screen, tracking your path to the bar with a skeptical brow. “Is it just me, or was that… intense?”
“C’mon, Junes,” she laughs breezily. “That is theater at its finest.”
“One scotch on the rocks, and one vodka tonic that’s light on the tonic,” you place your order at the bar, absentmindedly letting your fingers drift over the diamonds as you peruse the top shelf.
“Easy there, cowgirl,” Danny coaches in your ear. You look around for the nearest mounted dome camera and make a face at it. “Real mature, kid.”
You feel a heated gaze on your back, and you turn to flash a coy smile at Mister Jason Lee, the suspected brains behind the smuggling operation, before collecting your drinks and making your way back to Steve.
“He’s interested,” you murmur in his ear as you bend down to place the glass between his hands on the table. “But we need to really hook him. Better start throwing some money around, hotshot.”
“Go ahead, baby,” Steve says animatedly, attracting the attention of the other players around the table. He makes a big show of closing his eyes and letting you bet for him, clearly unaffected by winning or losing a few hundred on your blind faith. As you lean over to push a stack of chips towards the pot, you hear an appreciative titter around the table and turn to find Steve with one eye very obviously peeking- but definitely not at what your hands are doing.
“Naughty boy,” you scold playfully, and he offers his palms in an act of mock deference.
“Can you blame the man?” one of the other players barks out through a raucous laugh, and you smile politely even though their leering eyes make your skin crawl. When you bend to retrieve your drink, Steve moves closer with a grin and whispers in your ear, “If one of them so much as breathes in your direction, I’ll break off every one of their fingers and feed them to ‘em, okay, mama?”
Acutely aware that Danny and the rest of the team are watching your every interaction, you suppress a shiver and murmur back, “Sir, yes, sir.”
Steve has mixed luck on his first few hands, but you’re sure to make a big show of celebrating each win with a kiss that has the older women in the room clutching their proverbial pearls and Lee hanging onto your every move. You toy with the necklace as a nervous habit each time Steve places his bet and let your fingers trail across his broad shoulders as he studies each hand, squeezing affectionately every now and then.
“I hate this,” Danny declares, a dismayed frown tugging at his lips as he watches you on the live CCTV footage. On the small screen, you drape your arms around Steve’s neck and press a kiss to his cheek before murmuring something in his ear that’s too quiet for the hidden mic to pick up but has Steve grinning like a fool. “I hate this. Why did I let him talk me into this? Putz.”
“Relax, Danny,” Lou attempts to soothe his ruffled feathers. “They’re doing great.”
“Hey, hey, look!” Tani calls to garner their attention. “They’ve lured Lee in. He’s about to make contact.”
“Good evening,” he opens politely, pulling out the chair next to Steve.
“Evening,” your boyfriend offers in kind.
“Do you mind if I join you for the next hand?”
“Not at all,” you purr. “Perhaps you can help break my husband’s current losing streak.”
“With a good luck charm like you on his arm?” Lee counters smoothly. “Impossible.”
“From your mouth to the cards’ ears,” you laugh airily. “Let me go get you another drink, my love,” you say to excuse yourself, running your hand down Steve’s arm to collect his glass. “Can I get you anything, Mister…?”
“Good girl,” Tani praises you quietly over your comms.
“Lee,” he supplies. “But please, call me Jason.” He raises the remaining amber liquid in his glass with a smile then says, “Perhaps when I finish this drink, I’ll have what your husband’s having. Clearly he’s got excellent taste.” The way his eyes wander across your body isn’t lost on you.
“Arrogant son of a bitch,” Lou scoffs to his fellow team members upstairs. “Not even using an alias.”
Steve notices Lee’s hungry gaze straying from his cards to appreciate your form against the backdrop of the expansive bar and remarks, “Beautiful, isn’t she?”
“Indeed,” he agrees, swirling the expensive liquor in his glass before taking a sip. “Women like that are hard to find. As rare as that diamond around her neck.”
“Laying it on thick there, buddy,” Danny comments over your comms, and you steal a glance over to the table. “Take the bait, Steve.”
“Only the finest for my girl.”
When you return to the table with your and Steve’s drinks in hand, he hooks his ankle around the chair beside him and tugs it close for you to sit by him. “Slick move, double-oh-five-oh,” you murmur appreciatively in his ear before nipping at his earlobe. He seems extra possessive now, his hand either resting on your thigh, or your hip, or the back of your neck, always maintaining some form of skin to skin contact while the other holds his cards, and you can’t help but wonder what transpired between the two men.
Leaning over, Steve presses his lips to the point where your pulse thrums along your throat and asks, “What should we bet, beautiful girl?”
“Hm?” Your gaze is hazy, more so drunk on Steve’s touch than alcohol, and the unbidden thought that you can’t wait for this guy to be in cuffs so you can take your man home crosses your mind. You run your manicured fingers down his cheek and answer coyly, “I want you to go all in.”
The two of you dutifully ignore Danny’s protesting in your ears at your overt innuendo as Steve pushes his stack of chips to the center of the table.
“A bold move,” Lee declares with a whistle.
“What’s a few thousand when I have a million on my arm, hm?” your boyfriend counters with a sly glance in your direction.
“Let’s make this a real game. I’m all in, too.”
The dealer flips over the river card, and Steve’s arm tenses beneath your fingertips. The other few players around the table toss their cards aside with a sigh, but Lee looks over at the two of you with a grin, presenting his hand- a flush- with a flourish. He stands to collect the pot but Steve holds up one finger.
“Not so fast, my friend,” he laughs, his confidence making your body grow warm. Steve lays his hand out on the table with a smug smile. “Full house. Aces over eights.”
You let out an excited squeal, genuinely delighted at such a triumphant win, and pull Steve toward you by the lapels of his jacket to mold your lips to his. He makes an appreciative noise low in the back of his throat and his hand comes up to cup your neck in an overtly possessive manner that has you melting into his embrace. You feel his fingers playing with the clasp resting at the nape of your neck, and then the necklace falls into your lap, the next phase of your ruse in full effect now.
You pull back with a gasp and pout at Steve, your eyes wide. “It broke!”
“Then I’ll buy you ten more,” he answers easily, shrugging off your concern. “Go put it upstairs and don’t give it a second thought, okay?” He presses his lips to yours once more and gives you an affectionate pat below the dip of your dress when you stand that has you blushing. You can practically feel Danny’s laser eyes through the screen where he’s watching you.
You make sure to wobble the tiniest bit when you move, steadying yourself on Steve’s shoulder with a laugh. “What was our room number, honey?”
He shares a knowing look with your mark, then jokes, “How many vodka tonics have you had, hm? How many fingers am I holding up?” He has his fist raised and you smack at his chest with an eye roll. “217, my love,” Steve supplies before taking your hand and kissing the wedding band adorning your ring finger.
You head upstairs to the empty room the team had rented for this very purpose and place the necklace in the carefully concealed safe in the cupboard. When you return to the table, you find Steve alone.
“Where’s our friend?”
“Turned in for the night after that big loss,” your boyfriend supplies, winking at you. “Shall we?”
He offers you his arm, and after collecting his winnings, the two of you make your way to the lobby to lie in wait. “You’re going to be insufferable about that win forever now, aren’t you?”
“You said I was bad at poker,” Steve reminds you.
“You still are,” you fire back. “Dumb luck one time does not a skilled player make.”
“Jeez, boss,” Junior’s voice comes crackling in over your comms. “Want some ice for that burn?”
“Would you just- would you shut up and focus on the room, please?”
After a few minutes of waiting with no sighting of Lee, you lean into Steve’s chest and ask the team, “Anything?”
“Girl, hop off the mic,” Lou admonishes you, and you jump back from Steve. “We can hear you when you talk normally. Damn.”
Leaning back in, this time you whisper, “Sorry, guys.”
“Hey, McGarrett?” Tani speaks calmly but you can hear an edge of tension to her voice. “At your 4 o’clock, there’s two guys in suits who’ve had an eye on your table all night. I thought they were watching for potential card counting but they seem to have taken an interest in you and Y/N.”
“Copy,” Steve says quietly, pulling you closer to his body in a protective move in case all hell breaks loose.
“Let’s just show them we’re not a threat,” you offer.
“You want to go back in?”
“I was thinking of a more… hands on approach.” As the clicking of Italian leather shoes on the polished floor grows closer to you, you spin Steve around and push him against the wall, crashing into him for a heated kiss. His strong hands caress your bare back for a moment before one stays put to hold you against him while the other deftly undoes the knot holding your bun, your hair cascading down to its full length so Steve can use it for better leverage. You can’t help but moan into his mouth as he kisses you like a man starved until you’re shaken from your stupor by yelling approaching the lobby.
“Hey! Five-0! Stop running, dumbass!”
Without opening your eyes or breaking your kiss, you stick your foot out at the opportune time, making contact with the ankle of your diamond thief’s leg so he goes sprawling. There’s a faint splash to your right, and when you pull away for a breath, you can see your necklace winking at you from the lobby fountain.
Danny catches up to the scene and yells, “Hands- hey! Hands!”
Lee raises his hands above his head with a sigh, but your cousin continues on, “You two! Yeah, let me see your hands, too!” You turn to find Danny’s gun aimed at the diamond smuggler, but his fiery eyes are trained on you while Tani and Junior wrestle the other two lackeys to the floor nearby. You exchange a look with Steve, then feel the warmth of his palms leave your bare skin as the two of you slowly raise your hands as well. Clearing your throat, you offer meekly, “We’re really into method acting?”
“We’ll talk about this later,” Danny growls, slapping zip ties on a defiant Lee and ratcheting them tight before hauling him to his feet.
“Hey, man, ease up,” he whines and Danny barks, “You shut up.” He continues lamenting his woes audibly as he leads the thief to the waiting squad car, grumbling, “Had enough of all of you. My baby cousin and my best friend. Christ. What am I gonna tell my aunt?”
Steve whistles low under his breath when Danny’s out of earshot, then mutters, “That could’ve gone better.”
“On the plus side,” you comment, “he still referred to you as his best friend.”
Tani shoots you a sympathetic smile when she passes by with the man she apprehended, but Junior wastes no time leaning in and playfully tutting, “Bus-ted.” Steve raises one eyebrow and he tacks on a hurried, “Sir.”
—————
With Lee and his crew stewing in interrogation and HPD clearing the scene, you’re left sitting on the couch in Steve’s office like kids who got sent to the principal for misbehaving in school. The three of you must look ridiculous from the rest of the team’s point of view- you clad in spare clothes from Steve’s wardrobe in his office that you’re positively swimming in, your 40-plus-year-old boyfriend in a full tux with his bow tie and top few buttons undone, hand pressed over his mouth to avoid saying something that will further incense your cousin, and said cousin still dressed in his shirt and tie pacing the floor in front of you with his hands flying to emphasize every point he makes.
“And you-” Danny pauses his pacing to point an accusatory finger at his best friend. “How old are you, huh?” The finger changes angles to point at you. “And how old is she?”
“Do you want me to actually answer the quest-”
“No, Steve, they’re rhetorical questions! I know how old you are, and I’ll tell you! Too old for my baby cousin, that’s how old, huh? What’s the matter with you?”
“Why don’t you let Y/N speak for herself, Danny? Gotta let her grow up, buddy, c’mon now.”
“Thank you!” you cry. “Can I say something?”
The blonde and brunette duo turns to look at you with the same infuriating, incredulous look before simultaneously deciding, “No.”
“Alright, y’know what?” You slap your hands against your thighs and stand with a huff. “You two-” You point back and forth between Steve and Danny before continuing, “You work out your little marital spat. Daniel, when you’re ready to talk to me like the adult I am, I’ll be with Tani. After I drink some water. Because I’m still buzzed.” With that, you attempt to walk out of your boyfriend’s office with your head held high but are thwarted by the door, pushing on it to no avail.
“It’s a pull-” Danny says quietly, and Steve jumps in at the same time, “Pull, babe, you gotta pull on the-”
“I got it,” you bark at them, tugging on the glass door with a grumble about architectural intuitiveness.
After a long conversation with Steve and a short interrogation with Lee and his associates, Danny finds you nursing a bottle of water in Tani’s office, as promised. She slips out as your cousin takes a seat next to you, pulling you into a hug that you allow yourself to melt into even though you mutter all the while under your breath about his overprotective nature.
“I’m sorry I made you feel like you couldn’t just tell me you were seeing Steve.”
Woah. What?
“What?” Danny laughs. “You were right. We should talk about this like adults.”
“Did I say that out loud?”
“The ‘Woah. What?’? Yeah, you did, babe, it was very much not an inside thought.”
“Excellent,” you laugh, nodding solemnly. “Well, um, thank you for that. And sorry for not coming out and just telling you.”
“Guess I made it pretty hard for you to tell me, huh? What with the two rules and-”
“Yup.”
“But everybody else knew or-”
“Tani knew, cause she’s my girl, y’know. Grace figured it out pretty quickly. Pretty sure Lou’s had a feeling since at least Thanksgiving, honestly.”
Danny sits back with a start, pulling away from your hug. “How long has this been going on?”
With a sigh, you realize it’s time to come clean. “You remember when I wanted to go on that dive with you, and you said I should take Steve since you don’t ‘do water’? Well, Steve took me to this really beautiful dive spot and we kind of made a day of it so…”
“That was like-”
“A while-”
“Like seven months ago!”
“I mean, we didn’t exactly start dating on that day- well, no, we kind of did,” you correct yourself quietly, biting your lip with a grimace, but Danny’s already halfway across the floor back to Steve’s office. Lou takes the opportunity to poke his head in to check on you and you draw out a slow, “So Lou…” He raises one eyebrow in question, and you dare to ask, “Would now be a bad time to tell Danny about Will and Grace?”

“What’s with the suit?” Danny asked.
“I was getting back from dinner when you called.”
“So who’d you take out?”
“What do we have on the vic so far?”
“Our vic is named………”
Tumblr media
“The other night, who’d you take out?”
“That’s your important question.”
“Yep, so what pretty lady you take out this time?”
“One I didn’t take anyone out. I was taken out. Two, it wasn’t a lady.”
“Steve McGarrett, the chick magnet, doesn’t just like women, but also men. So liking guys a new thing or something?”
“Wow, I feel so supported, Danny. Thank you.”
“I didn’t mean it any bad way.”
“Yeah, yeah, I know. Your shit at being supportive. But to answer your question I’ve always liked guys just haven’t been one in a while that I’ve wanted to have anything more than a random hookup. But I got a good feeling about him and life has been better since I started going out with him a couple of months ago.”
Tumblr media
“Before I die, I want to say I’m sorry I was a bit of an ass yesterday about the guy think.”
“Apologized accepted, but this isn’t the time. You're not going to die, med is a couple minutes out. You just got to hold on a little more, bud.”
Tumblr media
“Hey love, I brought you a change of clothes and some food. Hows he doing.”
“Doctors said he should wake today or tomorrow.”
Tumblr media
“Oh, you're awake. How are you feeling?”
“I feel like I’ve been shot for the hundredth time. Anyway, who are you?”
“Y/n. Steves boyfriend.”
“Oh.”
“Probably not what you expected, right?”
“I don’t know what I expected, but it’s nice to meet you.”
“Nice to meet you, too. Steve should be back soon sent him to go get lunch. He’s been here since you admitted.”
“That’s nice of him, least he could do for being the reason I got shot.”
“I guess.”

Are you wifi?
Author’s Note: As a celebration of the return of my creativity. And as this is one of my stories which still gets a lot of love, I wanted to give "Are you Cinderella?" a part 2.
Can’t believe this one is from 2018. Time flies.
Enjoy!
Love,
Lis
A couple days after your spontaneous Pick-up-Line challenge, you were all on a lookout. While you and Danny were in a car together and Chin and Kelly as well. Steve was with Lou. You were all just talking about Valentins Day, and how horrible they went for most of you.
“Maybe Danny could have used some of the pick-up lines that we heard a few days ago.” Chin chimed in, making everyone laugh, you even more when you not only heard Dannys groan but saw him through his head back against the seat.
“Please don’t remind them.” Danny said.
“Oh, I heard of the best ones.” Lou chimed in.
“I have some of my one, you know.” He adds, and all of you could hear the smirk in his voice.
“No, Lou. Now is not the time.” Danny retorts at the same time as you say “Oh please, tell us.” The other also encouraging him.
“My wifes favourite was `I'd like to take you to the movies, but they don't let you bring in your own snacks.’” Lou says, making everyone crack up.
“I like it a bit more smooth, so my favorite is ‘Is it OK if I follow you out of here? My parents always told me to follow my dreams.’” He continues, causing everyone to ohh and ahh.
“I heard a new one, from a friend the other night. ‘Your middle name must be Gillette. Because you're the best a man can get!’” Chin chims in.
“What? That’s really just awful.” Kelly replies, but laughs nonetheless.
“Hey Steve.” You say, making Danny groand already, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“Yeah?” Steves answers.
“Know what's on the menu tonight?”
“What?” he says, and you can hear the Kelly can barely hold it together.
“Me-N-U.”
Everyone burst out laughing.
“Hey baby?” Steve says.
“Yes.” You answer, smiling and looking at Danny.
“Don’t look at me like that. I don’t want to hear it.” He says.
“Are you wi-fi? Cause I'm totally feeling a connection.” Steve says anyway.
While everyone still chuckles, Danny looks at you.
“What? Smile Danno. It’ll do you good.” You say, nudging his shoulder.
“You think the one I have would have helped me with Melissa?” he asks you, making you gasp.
“Please Danno, let us hear it.” Steve says, everyone being completely silent, waiting on Danny’s line.
“If I had to rate you from 1 to 10, I'd give you a 9, because I'm the 1 you're missing.” He finally says.
Everyone whistles and Lou says “That’s even smoother than mine.” Followed by many “wow Danny.”’s by the others.
You take his hand and look him in the eyes. “Danny… That line?” you asks, making him hum, looking at you. “That would have been 100% better than what you gave her.” You say, bursting into a laugh, while Danny tries to tickle you.

Redemption
Shock to the System
Los Angeles, California
Monday, September 20th, 2010
The day had been long.  Inordinately long.  A hostage situation went sideways, SWAT was called in and LAPD’s finest had to do whatever was necessary to save the day.
And they did.  Just like always.
Now, as the sun began to set over the Los Angeles skyline, SWAT Lieutenant Samantha Devereaux was happy to be on her way home where she planned on curling up with her beloved pit bull, Red, and indulging in her guilty pleasure – reality TV.
Sam eased her Kawasaki Ninja into the driveway.  Waving across the street to Mrs. Miller, Sam removed her helmet, releasing her long, dark auburn ponytail.  She grabbed her mail and made her way up the front walk to her porch, where a package from Aunt Mae was waiting.  Sam smiled, wondering what Hawaiian goodies Mae had stuffed into the box this time.
Sam disengaged the security alarm as she was toppled sideways by her big baby, Red.  “How’s my big boy?  Did you behave today, huh?  Didn’t eat any more of my shoes, did you?”
Dropping her backpack by the front door, Sam began stripping the day off her 5’ 8” frame as she walked towards the kitchen to get Red his cookie.  Jacket thrown haphazardly on the coat rack, boots kicked off one by one by the couch, gun and badge deposited on the kitchen island.  As she reached up on top of the refrigerator to grab Red’s cookie jar, the house phone rang.
Sam furrowed her brow.  The only time the house phone rang was if her commander couldn’t wake her up at 2am with a SWAT call out.  Sam checked the caller ID and saw it was Mae.
“Hey, Mae!  I literally just walked in the door with your package.  I haven’t even had time to pop open my knife to open it,” Sam said jovially.
Silence.
“Mae?  You there?”  Butt dial, maybe, Sam thought.
Sobbing.  Sam could hear her aunt sobbing on the other end of the line and her blood ran cold.
“Mae!  What is it?  Are you alright?”
“Oh, Sam.  I can’t…I don’t know…I can’t under…. Mae choked.
“Aunt Mae, are you okay?  What’s going on?” Sam prodded.  “Talk to me.”
“Sweetie, it’s…. it’s John,” Mae blurted out.  “Sweetie, he’s, oh God, honey, he’s gone.  John’s dead.”
Sam’s knees buckled and as if in slow motion, she hit the floor, hard.  Time stopped.  No.  It couldn’t be John.  There had to be a mistake.
Struggling to find her voice, she asked, “How Mae?  When?”  She tried to will it to be a mistake but in her heart, she just…knew.  Too many years in the field taught her better.
“I don’t know the details, but from what the police officers who questioned me said, it sounds as though he may have surprised someone who broke into the house this afternoon.  They asked if I had heard or seen anything out of the ordinary over the past few days.  He was…he was shot.”  The last words came out in a whisper.
Sam fought to suppress the bile that rose in her throat when she heard the last word.
Shot.
John McGarrett was shot.
No.  That wasn’t possible.  How in the hell did John McGarrett, a decorated Vietnam veteran and cop, wind up shot and killed in his own home in broad day light?  This couldn’t be real.
And just like that, Sam went on autopilot and her training kicked in.  Not the SWAT training.  Her other training.  The training that told her that there was something far bigger going on than just a random break in.  The training that had her already running strategy and scenarios for Mae’s safety, intel to be gathered, calls to be made, favors to cash in.
“Mae?  I need you to listen to me, okay?”  Sam said, trying to keep the fear out of her voice.
“What?  That I need to pack a bag and go stay with Jim & Paula?  I know how your mind works, sweetie.”  Sam marveled at how in tune she and Mae remained, despite the miles between them.  “I already worked out what you would be thinking.  Sam, please, come home.  Be careful, but come home.”  The pleading in her aunt’s voice broke what was left of Sam’s heart.
“Don’t worry about me, Mae.  I’ll be fine, too.  I’ll send you my flight info as soon as I have it.  And Mae?”
“Yes, sweetie?”
“I love you.  You know that, right?” Sam asked.
“And I love you right back, my sweet girl,” Mae responded.
Sam hung up the phone and placed it on the floor.  Leaning against the refrigerator where she landed, dozens of thoughts and memories flooded Sam’s brain as she tried to process the fact that John McGarrett, her beloved mentor and surrogate father, was dead.
Despite sensing his person needed him, Red walked up to Sam and started to whimper to go outside.  She absently patted his head as she tried to work her way through what needed to be done.    Compartmentalization.  That was all Sam could focus on.
Shaking her head out of the fog, Sam got up, grabbed her gun and badge from the island and her phone and keys out of her backpack and hooked Red up to his leash.  She set the alarm and locked the door behind her as she took Red out for a quick walk.  As she did, she remained cognizant of her surroundings.  She kept an eye out for anything out of the ordinary.  For a day that seemed normal – as if a crazy day at LAPD SWAT was considered normal – Sam felt a shift of some sort.  She felt like, all of a sudden, she was back to her hypervigilant days as a CIA operative, constantly looking over her shoulder, assessing any impending threat, looking for strange cars or people between her house and the park down the street where Red liked to people watch.
As they completed their walk and made their way back to the house, Sam checked her phone for the first time since leaving headquarters.  There were several missed calls from Mae, two texts from Javi asking if she wanted company tonight, and one from Jazz, checking in before her date tonight.  Jazz.  That’s the priority call.  She typed out a quick response to Javi that she was tied up.  She didn’t feel like she owed him a full blown explanation.  Wickes would fill the team in tomorrow anyways.  She just couldn’t deal with him tonight.
After locking up and resetting her alarm, Sam made a beeline for the back of the house.  While her family room looked like any other family room, no one noticed that the room was shorter on the inside than it was on the outside.  A sliding bookshelf blocked off a small, secure space where Sam kept what could only be described as a small arsenal of weaponry, as well as multiple cell phones, laptops, tablets and boxes of paperwork – her own personal case notes that she kept on every CIA op, mission and case she ever worked on.  There was even a secure drawer full of passports, driver’s licenses and social security cards for a set of aliases she had set up for herself over the years, should the need to disappear ever arise.  She set herself up in her own personal SCIF – Secure Compartmented Information Facility.  And once Sam was comfortable, she pulled up a secure link and set up a video conference with her darling Jazz.
Within seconds the beautiful Amazonian was on her screen.
“Hey girl!”  Jazz’s larger than life personality filled the screen.  Barely paying attention to what was happening, Jazz started going on and on about her upcoming date for the evening.  Regaling Sam with information on her latest Mr. Possible Right, it took her a full minute to come up for air and really looked at Sam for the first time.  Jazz stopped dead in her tracks.
“Samantha?”
“Jasmine,” Sam said quietly, once again fighting the urge to break down.
“Honey girl, what happened?  What do you need?”  Jazz asked.
“I’m sorry to put you in this position, given that I’m no longer with the Company, but you and Matty are the only two people I can trust with this.” Sam said.
“Sam, you know I am here for you, no matter what.  Just hit me with it.”
Sam took a halting breath.  “John McGarrett was murdered in his home today.”
“Oh my God!” Jazz said quietly.  She knew how much John McGarrett meant to her dear friend.  The man had been a second father to her her entire life, especially after her parents died.  Jazz had always thought John saved Sam after her world crashed down on her in Munich.  This was going to tear Sam apart.  “I will get you everything, you know I will.”  Jazz began furiously working her technical magic.
“I know.  HPD would more than likely have had the scene.  Mae called me.  Jazz, you should have heard her.”  Sam rambled on for several minutes until…
“Fuck me sideways.”  Jazz mumbled.
“What?” Sam said cautiously as Jazz stared back at her through the screen.  “Jazz, what?”
“According to a Naval intelligence report, John McGarrett was on the phone with his son when he was shot and killed.”  Jazz’s eyes were watering as she was reading whatever file she had tapped into.
“You’re telling me that Steve heard his father…?”  The bile once again began to rise in Sam’s throat.  Oh God.  Wait, if Steve and John were on the phone…Sam’s mind was spinning.  “Does that mean they know who shot and killed John?” Sam asked.
“Yes,” Jazz said, pausing a moment too long, as she once again gazed at her friend through the screen.  Sam prompted her.
“Jazz, who killed John?”  Sam demanded.
Visibly choking on the words as a tear rolled down her cheek, Jazz said the one name Sam never expected to hear fall from her lips.
“Victor Hesse.”

Coming for You! Masterlist
Tumblr media
(New Header! I like this one more than the old one!)
This is going to be a mini-series... I think...
Paring: Steve McGarrett X Reader Williams
Characters: Everyone... also various OMC & OFC
Warnings: Past Abusive Relationship, Angst, hidden pregnancy, Violence, Language, Kidnapping, Possible (almost) Harm to a Child, Scared Children, Upset/ Pissed off Steve, Upset/ Pissed off Danny, Asshole Ex
(There is more but once again my stupid brain is not working...)
A/n: This was going to originally be Reader X Danny but as I was writing it, it seemed to me that she would fit more with Steve. Or my brain subconsciously decided that this needed to be a Steve story? Who really knows?... So, I just made her a Williams instead.
Summary: After Danny helps his pregnant sister get away from her abusive ex five years ago, Y/n is finally able to have some peace. She has started over. Loving the life she has created for her and her son, that is, until the unthinkable happens.
(I suck at summaries... I will try to come up with something better later.)

Backseat Driver
[A/N: Don’t ask me how this turned into a nearly 7K fic, mmkay? When I finally hopped on the tumblr train I couldn’t find any Steve x reader x Danny smut so uh… I made it myself :) Sidenote: if you know of any/have suggestions, pls send ‘em my way
This is kind of a preemptive apology because I’m about to sacrifice myself to my Internal Med rotation, so who knows when I’ll be back next 🥲 Enjoy 😈]
—————
“All I’m saying is, once, just once, I would like to drive my own car, okay? That’s all.”
“Look,” Steve shrugs nonchalantly as he slips his key into the lock and eases the front door open, “I’m the better driver, so I drive. Just makes sense.”
“Are you- Are you serious right now?” Danny mutters a curse under his breath, following his partner into the dark house. “You’re not a better driver, you’re just a control fr-”
He’s cut off abruptly by a groan reverberating throughout the house, and his eyebrows knit together as he shares a look of concern with the brunette. Their playful banter ends immediately and weapons are drawn from holsters. Steve takes point up the staircase, muzzle aimed at your shared bedroom door as Danny covers his six, the two creeping upstairs in an easy rhythm from years of performing this dance.
“Oh, for fuck’s sake,” Steve rumbles out, holstering his weapon and running his fingers through his hair while he laughs softly to himself.
“What? Is she o…kay…” Danny’s words and any semblance of rational thought scramble when he catches up with his partner.
You’re sleeping peacefully in bed, mere feet away yet blissfully unaware of the duo, your hair fanned out over the pillow in gentle waves, the sheets twisted up around your legs, clad in one of Steve’s old Navy shirts and- they assume- little else. Soft whimpers fall past your parted lips, gradually increasing in volume until they match the frantic rutting of your hips against the pillow squeezed between your legs.
“Woah, hey now,” Steve shoots his hand up to cover Danny’s line of sight and the blonde slaps at him in retaliation.
“What are you, ten? I came up here as backup, but clearly she’s fine so I can le-”
“Oh fuck, Danny,” you keen, eyes squeezed shut in apparent ecstasy.
The two men’s voices, one laced in slight mortification, the other in poorly-concealed delight, join together to whisper a singular What the fuck? You release another breathy moan before your boyfriend comes to his senses and yanks the door closed, turning on his best friend and partner with a glare. “You saw nothing. And you heard nothing.”
“Nothing to see, nothing to hear,” Danny responds with a shrug, trying and failing to hide a smirk behind twitching lips and a clearing of his throat.
“She said ‘Daddy’,” Steve insists, accusatory finger pointed at the shorter man’s chest. “Just so we’re clear.”
The blonde is all tongue-in-cheek as he shoots back, “No idea what you’re talking about, babe. I heard nothing, remember?” He bounds down the stairs toward the front door, and Steve swears he’s got an extra spring to his already normally bouncy step when he walks out of the house.
“Right,” Steve grits out into the giddy air left in Danny’s wake, mind already whirring with potential ways he’s going to make you repent for this little slip up.
__________
“Good morning, handsome,” you call over your shoulder as you stir creamer into your morning brew, dropping the spoon and squealing in delight when you’re unceremoniously spun around and deposited on the kitchen counter next to the coffee maker. Your boyfriend’s mouth latches onto your neck immediately, muttering out a half-hearted greeting between heated kisses to your skin. You pull your bottom lip between your teeth and let out a whine, knocking your head back against the cabinet when he bites down on the sensitive divot between your neck and shoulder. His tongue darts out to soothe the area, and you instinctively wrap your legs around him and press your heels into his lower back, forcing his erection against your lace-covered center.
A sharp gasp punches out of you at the sheer weight of his cock pressing against you, your mind growing fuzzy as Steve cages you in with his hulking form. “Please,” you whine pathetically, tugging at the short strands of his sleep-mussed hair while he relentlessly lavishes your chest and neck with open-mouthed kisses. Then he redirects his attention to your mouth, pressing a few chaste kisses to your lips before devouring you from the inside out. His tongue slips past your parted lips with ease, effortlessly dancing with and dominating yours, pulling needy whimpers from the depths of your being.
“Steve,” you gasp, pulling back to catch your breath, chest flushed and heaving while you roll your hips against his with lust-driven abandon. “This case took way too long. I need you inside of me, like, yesterday.”
He tenderly brushes his thumb over your swollen bottom lip and you hungrily lap at the digit, drawing it into your mouth and sucking greedily as your eyes flutter closed.
“God,” Steve’s laugh is dark and throaty, and you feel another rush of wetness pooling between your thighs. “You’re fucking feral for my cock, aren’t you, baby?”
You nod frantically in response, sucking on his finger with renewed vigor while tears well in your eyes out of desperation.
“Daddy’s little cumslut, hm? Want it in you and on you all the time, don’t you?”
“Fuck yes, Commander,” you cry out, hoping your play on his authority kink will push him over the edge into giving you what you want. You let your nails rake over the trail of dark hair along his lower abdomen before slipping your hand into his shorts and stroking his hard length. “Just want to be a good girl for you.” Without breaking the steady rhythm of your hand working his cock, you guide his hand to the growing wet spot on your panties, pressing his fingers against where you want him, need him. “Please,” you beg again, damn near your breaking point, “please fuck me.”
Finally, mercifully, he obliges, curling two fingers around your lame excuse for underwear and tugging it aside, shoving his shorts down so that you can line the head of his cock up to your wet heat. Your ass is barely on the countertop now, your body magnetically drawn forward, desperate for connection. He pushes into you inch by inch until he bottoms out, and the sound that escapes your lips is nothing short of pornographic.
“Look at that,” he breathes out with a self-satisfied smile, “not even a single stroke and you’ve already got that dumb look on your face.”
“Feels-” You pause to lick your lips, trying to correct the sudden dryness in your mouth as your walls involuntarily squeeze around the delicious fullness, “so fucking good.”
“Yeah? Remember that.”
And then he’s pulling out and tucking himself back into his shorts, heading upstairs and leaving you high and dry on the kitchen counter, lips and legs parted in surprise.
__________
Seated at your desk at work, your fingers fly over the keyboard before you with a mind of their own, the steady clicking of your nails allowing you to zone out and replay the events of this morning for the hundredth time. You’ve already eliminated the possibility of it being a punishment, because Steve has nothing to punish you for. He’s been working a case tirelessly for nearly the past week, and you barely had time to interact with your super SEAL, let alone do something to warrant being punished. Maybe he missed you so much he wanted you all hot and bothered for mind blowing sex tonight- mission very much accomplished. Maybe he’d finally been hit in the head one too many times, and his amygdala was fucked up now.
Or maybe he was actually upset with you.
The last possibility has your lips curling into a frown. You’ve been steadily chipping away at Steve's hardened exterior and actively working on communicating. It’s become a game now, a pingpong match of Use your words, Steven, and You sound like my mother, and the reigning champion, Doris is the reason your emoting needs work.
You pull out your phone to call Steve and settle this once and for all, but a glance at the time offers a better option.
__________
“Future Mrs. McGarrett comin’ in hot!”
“Thank you for announcing my arrival,” you smile and wave at your boyfriend’s team in greeting, making a beeline for his office before the glass double doors of the Five-0 home base have even eased shut behind you.
“Somebody’s in trouble,” Chin jokes about the intensity of your pace. Danny’s gaze lingers on your passing form for longer than he’d like to admit before he responds with a simple, “Yeah.” And it’s not Steve.
“You,” you start, plucking the pen out of Steve’s large hand and tossing it into the nearby mug with its mates before daintily planting your body on the solid wooden desk, “owe me an explanation.”
He sits back in his chair, arms crossed and a provocative tilt to one eyebrow in a show of dominance, intentionally spreading his legs and arching his hips upward to draw your attention there. “For?”
You let out a wry chuckle, your arms repositioning in a reflection of his standoffish posture. “You know what for.”
He leans forward suddenly, his strong hands splaying over your thighs just below the hem of your skirt, and your breathing immediately picks up in response. He growls out, “Enlighten me,” and a shiver runs down your spine.
“Morning,” you rasp, trying and failing to hold onto the higher ground. “This morning.”
“Princess,” he tuts condescendingly, and a renewed rush of frustration floods your veins, “was that unfair?”
“Yeah, it was fucking unfair,” you huff back, fingers itching to scrape along his greying stubble and pull him in for a heated kiss. There’s a tenth circle in Hell for whoever designed this office space with glass walls.
“My poor baby,” he nuzzles his nose against yours before gingerly pressing a kiss to the corner of your mouth. “I’m sure Danny can fix that for you.”
You sit back, eyes wide, and scrutinize his features for signs of the alien life form that’s evidently taken possession of his body. “What did you just say?”
“I said,” he stands up and tosses his jacket over one arm, offering you his free hand to help you down from the desk, “that Daddy can fix that for you.”
“I could’ve sworn-”
“C’mon, baby,” he tucks you into his side as he leads you out of the office, hiding his smirk with a kiss to your hair. “Let’s go home.”
__________
Steve more than makes up for leaving you unfulfilled that night and in the several nights that follow. You’ve convinced yourself that you must’ve misheard him in the office days ago- your friends are always telling you that you listen to your music at hearing-loss-inducing decibels. The two of you have seamlessly fallen back into your usual routine, devoid of snarky commentary and withholding of pleasure. You’ve put that episode behind you, and things are good.
Until the following Saturday.
You’re sitting in your favorite chair on the beach outside of the McGarrett household, enjoying a gloriously trashy romance novel and the peals of laughter wafting up from the water where Steve and Danny are teaching Grace how to balance on a full-size surfboard. The sight warms your heart, but when your boyfriend steps out of the surf, beads of saltwater rolling down the hard planes of his body as he glistens in the Hawaii sun, the warmth takes an abrupt detour south.
“My, my, Commander,” you simper, lowering your sunglasses and making sure he can see the way your eyes hungrily rove his physique. “Aren’t you a sight for sore eyes?”
“Take me to dinner first,” he quips, leaning down to steal a kiss before falling into the chair beside you. “Gotta admit, Danno’s lookin’ good, too.”
You place your book down on your lap and rotate your body to face him, eyebrow cocked playfully. “Is this your way of coming out to me?”
“Nah, y’know, I’m just saying he’s a good looking guy,” Steve shrugs. “Man to man. Objectively.”
“Danny is very handsome,” you concede with a coy smile. “Objectively.”
You return your shades to their rightful position so Steve can’t track your gaze and hold your book back up in front of you, leaving a gap over the top so you can enjoy the view. Your eyes rake over the blonde’s solid build, lingering appreciatively on the curve of his ass in the tight, wet board shorts. The muscles in his arms ripple as he holds the surfboard steady for his daughter against the lapping waves, and your temperature ticks up another degree when you think about those strong arms holding you down while he-
“You ever think about him like that?”
“Danny?” Your voice rises in pitch and you resist the urge to wince, knowing that you’ve been caught red-cheeked rather than handed- and ogling his best friend, no less. “No, definitely not,” you lie through your teeth, trying to slow your erratic heart rate while calculating what size ladder you’ll need to climb out of this hole.
“Really?” Steve scrapes his nails along your scalp, a soothing pattern that lulls you into a false sense of security until the other shoe drops. “Could’ve sworn you moaned his name when you were humping my thigh like a bitch in heat last night.”
Your mouth drops open, dumbfounded, and you hurry to play damage control. “Steve, I-”
“And the night I came back from our case on Moloka’i.”
The world around you comes to a screaming halt as you put the pieces together: Steve’s uncharacteristic behavior the next morning, his overt possessiveness (even more so than usual), the offhand comment in his office. “Fuck me,” you groan softly, mistaking his comments for justified anger. “Baby, I’m sorry, it was just a dream, but-”
“Tell me about it.”
You raise your eyes to take in your boyfriend’s posture and facial expression. His body is angled toward you, leaning in, eyes bright, pupils dilated. You realize with a tinge of delight that he’s not upset- he’s excited.
You reach out timidly and trace a random pattern along his knee that’s pressed against yours. “So you’re… not mad?”
“Oh, don’t get me wrong, angel,” his laugh takes on a dark tone and he squeezes your hand on his knee, using it as leverage to pull you forward as his voice drops lower. “I was mad. I wanted to tie you to the bed and ravage your little body until you were a crying, screaming mess, until the only word you could remember was my name.”
An involuntary shiver runs down your spine and you lean forward even more, Grace’s presence the only thing keeping you from clambering into his inviting lap. “You can still do that,” you whisper.
His fingers brush through your hair and you let out a happy purr that morphs into a sharp gasp when he suddenly tightens his grip. “And then I thought about depriving you altogether. How frustrated and desperate you would get, on your knees with tears in your eyes, begging for my cock like the little slut you are.” He meets your gaze with a wolfish grin, slotting his knee between your legs so you can’t press your thighs together. “But eventually I realized that you can’t help it. That sweet little pussy has a mind of her own, and she just wants to be filled all the time, whether it’s by your Daddy or- Danny! Hey! How’s it going?”
You meekly tuck your legs under your body as you sit back in your chair, quietly trying to take deep breaths. Despite being outside in the fresh air, there’s suddenly no oxygen available to fill your lungs. You’re completely zoned out from the conversation beside you until two fingers make contact with your chin, angling your face upwards. “You okay, babe?”
Your mouth goes dry when you meet Danny’s piercing gaze, and you merely nod in response, not trusting your brain to string intelligible words together at the moment.
“She’s-” Steve pauses to make sure Grace is out of earshot before continuing, “a little preoccupied thinking about the other night.”
“Don’t,” you growl in warning, sparing him a withering glance before realizing Danny’s still holding your chin and abruptly pulling back like his fingers are on fire. “You know better than to listen to him,” you direct your comment to the blonde.
Danny turns to his best friend for clarification. “You mean that night we got home from our case-”
“Mhm.”
“And we thought someone was in the house-”
“Yup.”
“But she was in bed dreaming about-”
“O-kay!” You clap your hands together and stand up, gathering your towel and novel. “Let’s just agree to act like it never happened, and we can all move on with our lives, okay? Great. I’m gonna go make dinner.” You make your way up the beach to the house, and you can feel two sets of eyes watching your retreating form.
“So…” The blonde turns back to his partner once you’re out of sight. “Tonight?”
“Yeah,” Steve smirks in response. “We’ve made her wait long enough.”
__________
Later that night, Steve’s helping you load the dishwasher as he fills you in on the culmination of their last case when you startle at the sound of the front door. You instinctively reach for him and he shushes you with a kiss. “It’s just Danny, baby. Grace is back at Rachel’s so I told him to join us for a movie. That okay?”
“Of course.” Your previous worry melts into a smile when Danny graces you with his presence, and you greet him with a hug.
“Why don’t you go change and we’ll get set up, hm?” Steve sends you upstairs with a gentle pat on your ass that earns him a playful glare and an utterly non-threatening, “Watch it, mister.”
When you return in sleep shorts and one of Steve’s bootcamp shirts, the two have already taken up residence on their designated ends of the couch. You slot your smaller body in between theirs, tugging the blanket over your legs and smiling with glee when you spot the glass of red wine in your boyfriend’s hand. Wiggling your fingers, you instruct, “Gimme.” He holds the glass high out of your reach and raises one eyebrow, eliciting a sharp huff from you. Offering your best doe eyes and pouty lip, you amend, “Please?”
“Much better, little girl.” Steve gives you the glass and you happily accept it, not paying attention to his hand creeping up your thigh under the blanket until his fingers ghost over your center.
“Hey,” you hiss quietly, angling your head towards the blonde on your right. “Don’t.”
“If you two are quite finished,” Danny waves the remote accusingly in your direction, “I’m gonna start the movie now.”
Mumbling out an apology, you take Steve’s arm and sling it over your shoulders across the back of the couch so his hand is far away from its intended target. You settle back into the cushions to enjoy the psychological thriller, and as the film plays your single glass of wine turns steadily into a second, and then a third.
“No more of that for me,” you whisper to your boyfriend, reaching over him to place your glass on the side table. You snuggle into Steve’s side, humming contentedly when his arm comes down across your body, his hand splaying possessively over your stomach. You bring your legs up to drape over Danny’s lap, and his hands move to massage your calves. “This okay, babe?”
Maybe it’s the alcohol answering for you, or maybe you’re trying to fulfill that damned dream, but your head drops into a nod of its own volition. Your eyes flutter closed, thoroughly enjoying the feeling of two sets of strong hands on your body. The movie fades into a dull drone in the background as Steve’s hand dips below the hem of your shorts, and then beneath the band of your lace panties. You whimper at the contact, reaching up on instinct to scrape your nails across his stubble. His hot breath fans over your ear and he rumbles out, “Say 'no' right now and we’ll stop.”
Confused by his words, you open your eyes to find Danny hungrily watching Steve’s finger steadily pumping in and out of you beneath the blanket. He licks his lips and then raises his gaze to meet yours. “Do you want this?”
You open your mouth to answer, then look up to Steve for guidance. “Your body,” he presses a tender kiss to your forehead, “your decision, baby girl.”
You turn back to the blonde with a shuddering breath before finding your voice. “Yes. Please.”
__________
You’re sitting on the edge of the bed, nervous energy thrumming through your body as you play with the hem of your boyfriend’s shirt that dwarfs you in size. You’ve laid down the ground rules and discussed your limits, and now Steve and Danny are in the walk-in closet attempting to have a hushed conversation, but every syllable floats its way over to you in the bedroom.
“This isn’t what we talked about, Steve.”
“You’re always complaining about not getting to drive, well, here you go! It’s all you, buddy.”
“Your girlfriend,” you can practically see Danny’s hands moving to emphasize his point, “is not a car to be driven, you goddamn oaf. She is a beautiful, intelligent woman who should be loved, respected-”
“Hey, Danny?” you cut in. Their heads come into view around the corner and you offer, “That’s a really lovely sentiment, but I just want someone to fuck me.”
Steve turns to Danny with a smug smile that clearly reads I told you so. He crosses the room and grips your face tightly, fingers pressing into your cheeks as he kisses you deeply until your head is buzzing and your lungs are screaming for oxygen. “Don’t for a second forget that you belong to me. Am I clear?”
You look up at him with an adoring smile and nod, mumbling an audible affirmative to satisfy him. Then Steve moves to the loveseat in the corner of the room, getting himself situated and motioning for Danny to join you on the bed.
Excitement wins over confusion when the blonde sits next to you, tentatively strumming his fingers over your bare thigh. “You tell me to stop at anytime, got it?”
You beckon him closer and whisper in his ear, “You have no idea how long I’ve wanted this.” The magic words evidently spoken, Danny all but pounces on you while Steve looks on, one hand tangling in your hair as the other slips under your shirt and his mouth dominates yours. You moan unabashedly at the unfamiliar pace and feeling and taste, your body perfectly in tune with Steve’s after all this time together and thrilled by this fascinating newness.
You run your hands along his muscular arms as he latches onto your neck, meeting Steve’s gaze over his shoulder. “You don’t want to join?”
“Not yet, baby,” he shakes his head. You let out a sharp gasp when Danny finds the sensitive spot near the hollow of your throat, and your boyfriend smirks knowingly. “Danny,” he calls to get his friend’s attention. “Slide two fingers in her and bite that spot again. She’ll clench around you and it’s absolutely incredible.”
“I know how to make a woman feel good, Steven,” the blonde shoots back, tugging your shirt off and rolling your nipples between his fingers, causing you to cry out as proof.
“I’m sorry, did that sound like a request? Because it wasn’t.”
“Should’ve known you’d be a control freak about fucking your girlfriend, too.”
“Oh my god,” you pant, embarrassingly turned on by their banter being about your body. Steve trains his wolfish grin on you when he sees your gaze is locked on the prominent bulge in his shorts. He purposefully shifts his hips and you whimper, longing to feel the weight of his cock on your tongue. “Feeling empty, baby girl?”
“Yes, Daddy- oh!” Your eyes roll back and your mouth drops open when Danny spears you apart with two thick fingers. “Your focus should be on me, angel,” he chides softly. “He can’t touch you from over there.”
“Yes, sir,” you cry, using your leverage on your knees to meet his fingers thrust for thrust. “It won’t happen again.”
“That’s my good girl,” he croons, and you practically glow at the praise, swirling your hips as you feel your release building.
And then Steve is snatching your reward away with a simple command. “Don’t let her cum.” You whine at the loss of contact when Danny slips his fingers out of you, and you silently curse your boyfriend for being able to read you so well. “Got something to say, brat?”
“Yeah, actually, I-”
“Shut her up, Danny.”
Your sassy remark gets caught in your throat when Danny slides his fingers, completely coated in your wetness, between your lips. You moan around his fingers and suck greedily, grateful to finally have something in your mouth. You brazenly cup him through his pants, palming at his erection while you continue to suck on his fingers, eyes closed as you try to imagine enjoying the real thing.
“Is that what you want, my little slut?” Steve calls mockingly from his spot in the corner. You whimper pathetically in affirmation and he laughs. “That’s what you’ve been dreaming about, isn’t it? Danny’s cock filling your pathetic little holes, his cum in you and on you?”
A whine escapes your lips, morphing into a high-pitched keen as Danny eases your shorts and panties off and guides you to sit on his muscular thigh. You grind down on his leg, desperate for some friction, and take the opportunity to yank his shirt off so you can feel his bare chest. Danny replaces his fingers in your mouth with his tongue once again, letting the soaking wet digits trail down your naked body until they reach your throbbing clit. He circles the sensitive bundle of nerves over and over again and you dig your nails into his shoulders as your first orgasm rips through you, your head falling back and a strangled moan echoing throughout the room.
Danny’s thumbs rub soothing circles along your thighs as you recover, and you feel your boyfriend’s presence behind you moments before his arms wrap around your body. “Did so good, baby girl,” he murmurs, pressing kisses down the back of your neck. “Take a breather.” You nod weakly, still buzzing from the aftershocks of your orgasm, and Steve tilts your chin up so he can get a good look at you. “Tell me your color.”
Opening your bleary eyes to fix him with a smile, you offer, “Green, Steve. As green as you were when you heard me moan your best friend’s name.”
His eyes flash a shade darker and his mouth twists into a wry grin. Carding his fingers through your hair as Danny kisses along your neck, he remarks, “You really want that punishment, don’t you?”
Intent on pushing your boyfriend’s buttons, you respond, “Wow, Steve, you don’t miss a beat.”
Danny pulls his face back from the valley between your breasts long enough to kindly request that you both shut the fuck up. With a laugh, you turn away from Steve and direct your attention to the blonde, tangling your fingers in his hair and pulling him in for a heated kiss. Steve’s large hands on your hips draw you back against him so he can grind on your ass while you tug Danny closer and appreciate his length pressing insistently between your thighs. Danny’s tongue licks into your mouth, hot and hungry, and your brain goes fuzzy from being trapped between two walls of pure muscle.
Sliding your hands down the blonde’s toned back, you work your way past the band of his sweatpants until you reach your intended target and give a firm squeeze, an appreciative moan building low in your throat. “You have such a nice ass,” you confess, your filter evidently not present at the party thanks to alcohol and lust. “I wanna fucking bite it.”
With a warm chuckle, he comments, “You’re a little freak, huh? You like biting?”
“I love biting,” you emphasize, demonstrating just how much by sucking a harsh mark on the blonde’s chest that has him groaning in pleasure, “but I enjoy being bitten more.”
Steve’s knowing laugh rumbles against the back of your neck, then he drags his lips down the curve of your spine and his palm strikes your cheek before he sinks his teeth into your flesh. The exciting jolt of pain elicits a gasp from you, and Danny takes the opportunity to tug your bottom lip between his teeth until you cry out again.
Fumbling behind you, you manage to push your boyfriend’s shorts down enough to feel his cock spring free, and you guide him between your thighs, already slick from your previous orgasm and unrelenting desire. “You’re a greedy little thing,” Steve admonishes you, sliding his cock between your folds, the tip repeatedly nudging your clit but refusing to give in and fill you up. “Daddy, please,” you whine, tears springing to your eyes as you throw your head back against his shoulder. You pull Danny along with you, and the blonde hungrily latches onto one of your nipples, rolling the other bud between his fingers. Steve keeps up the torturous drag of his throbbing cock along your weeping cunt, his large hands pressing against the outside of your legs so he’s effectively fucking the tight space between your thighs. “Don’t be mean, Daddy,” you cry in earnest, pathetic tears rolling down your cheeks and your pussy aching with need.
“Poor baby,” Danny coos when you sniffle, cupping your cheeks and kissing away your tears. “Do you want me to fuck you?”
“Yes, oh yes, please,” you babble, absolutely desperate to be filled. You can see the blonde smirking at you through your tears, his soft touches and featherlight kisses in direct opposition to how rough and dismissive Steve’s being with your body right now. Your skin feels like it’s on fire, and you have a carnal desire for both of these men to use and abuse you. “I’ll do whatever you want, Danny, please!”
“Bribing the police is a felony offense, little girl,” he tuts, clearly enjoying mocking you.
“Then bring your cuffs next time,” you growl, fed up with their game. You shove Danny’s chest, forcing him to fall back on the bed, and he smiles at the predatory glint in your still teary eyes. “So fucking beautiful,” he breathes out, mesmerized by the sight. You tug his sweats down, then bend at the waist to take him in your mouth. The change in angle has your boyfriend’s cock finally sliding home where he belongs, and Steve lets out a strangled groan at how tightly you’re squeezing him. You moan around Danny’s length, and the blonde lets out an obscene sound at the sensation, a lewd symphony echoing around your bedroom. Steve draws his hips back until only the head of his cock remains inside you, and you mirror his motions with your mouth around Danny. “Oh, I see,” your boyfriend laughs when he notices. “You want me to drive, baby?”
You hum in assent, laving your tongue against the vein on the underside of Danny’s cock. He tangles his fingers in your hair and gives an experimental tug, causing your eyes to roll back from pleasure. “Not today, Steve,” Danny counters with a wicked grin. “She’s my little passenger princess now.”
You whimper at the thought, and your walls clench reflexively around Steve, his fingers digging even harder into your hips in a bruising grip that’s sure to leave marks for days to come. With one hand on your throat, Danny guides you up until you’re on your hands and knees between the two kneeling men.
Your skin flushes red hot and your breathing picks up at the recognizable position, excitement coursing through your veins. “Are you going to-”
“Why are you talking, huh?” Danny questions, tilting his head and pressing his fingers against the column of your throat. “Did I say you could speak?” You shake your head, his authoritative tone and the fact that your dominant boyfriend is relinquishing control to his best friend turning your legs to jelly and your brain to mush. “I asked you a question, Y/N,” Danny growls, and you’re quick to amend with, “No, sir.”
He runs his thumb over your swollen bottom lip and murmurs, “Good girl.” Then, “You both still okay with this?”
Steve answers with, “Yes, Danny,” while you blurt out, “This is so fucking hot.” Your sudden admission shatters the tension in the air, and the three of you can’t help but laugh. “I’m sorry,” you giggle, “it’s just that, well-” Feeling bashful, which in itself is a ridiculous feat with Danny’s cock mere inches from your lips and Steve’s pulsing inside you, you duck your head and murmur, “I’ve been dreaming about this.”
“I know, baby,” Steve admits, pressing a kiss to your back while he squeezes your hips. “You talk in your sleep.”
“You knew?” you hiss, Danny’s grip on your hair keeping you from glaring at your boyfriend. “This whole time? You mother- fuck,” your outrage morphs into a wanton cry, your mouth dropping open when Steve roughly slots himself back between your thighs. “Sorry, Danny,” he apologizes for momentarily taking the reins. “It’s all you now, buddy.”
The blonde shakes his head at his best friend, then guides you forward until the head of his cock slips past your lips. You moan at the taste of him, relaxing your throat and allowing him in further. “Such a good girl,” Danny says softly, his gentle praise going straight to your core and causing you to pulse around Steve who ruts against you in response. His voice rough with desire, he coerces, “Move, Danny.”
“What happened to me being in charge, huh? Two minutes, Steve, you couldn’t go two minutes without opening your big mouth.”
“I’m sorry, does my girlfriend’s pussy have your dick in a vice grip? No? Then shut up and move, for the love of God.”
“Y’know, I think this whole ‘Commander’ thing has really gone to your head.”
“Oh yeah? Which one, cause they’re both pretty big.”
You let out a frustrated grunt, as much as you can with the sizable obstacle in your mouth, and glare up at Danny. “You’re right, baby, I’m sorry,” he sighs, taking a moment to adjust his grip on your hair before fucking your mouth with a renewed fervor. You can’t tell if they’re working in tandem or trying to compete, but you can’t bring yourself to care as you bounce between their bodies in the most obscene version of tug of war you’ve ever played in your life. Steve’s fucking into you like an absolute animal, his low grunts and growls only serving to further spur you on as his hand presses against your belly to feel the bulge there with every flex of his hips. You want to tell him how turned on you are by the fact that you can feel him so deep inside you, how badly you want him to fill you up until he’s dripping down your thighs, how much you love him and love being his little plaything, but you can’t complain about not being able to talk when the reason why is so deliciously hedonistic.
Danny looks like a work of art as he uses your mouth, his head thrown back in pure ecstasy, chest heaving, a thin sheen of sweat coating his beautiful skin. His fingers are splayed across your throat just like his best friend’s lower on your body so he, too, can feel his cock pulsing inside of you with each thrust. Your limbs feel utterly useless right now, and you’re grateful that the two of them are holding you up as they wring out every drop of pleasure from your body. Drool slips from the corner of your lips with every pull of Danny’s cock, mirroring your essence dripping down Steve’s solid thighs, and you can feel the band in your core tightening with every stroke, threatening to snap at any moment. Steve can sense your impending orgasm and he tells his best friend as such, two sets of skilled fingers roaming your body to heighten your pleasure, one teasing your sensitive nipples, the other circling your pulsing clit.
The dual sensations send you hurtling over the edge with a long, muffled moan, your mind going blank as Danny spills down your throat and Steve’s release paints your walls, still squeezing him in the wake of your own climax. They gently pull out of you and you cry out at the sudden shift, every single one of your nerve endings feeling like it's on fire. You barely register the warm washcloth caressing your skin as they murmur gentle praises and sweet nothings to you, then get you settled under the covers. Once you’ve had a moment to catch your breath, you recognize Steve’s solid form underneath you, and you beckon Danny closer before snuggling into your man with a sigh. “You’re welcome, by the way.”
Steve hooks your leg around his waist and presses his lips against your forehead. “I think you mispronounced ‘thank you’ by several syllables there.”
“I meant what I said,” you insist through the haze of sleep, placing your hand over Danny’s on your waist and interlocking your fingers. “I consider this team building. Much more effective than your mandated therapy. Ergo, you’re welcome.”
“Bet he still won’t let me drive, though,” Danny mumbles against your skin, and you can feel his lips quirk up in a cheeky grin.
Steve leans up on his elbow to look at his partner over your half-asleep form. “Are you serious right now?”
“Yes, I’m serious. Why would you ask me if I’m serious? Have you ever know me to be unserious when commenting on your neurotic ways?”
“I just- you’re unbelievable, Danny, y’know that? I share my bed with you, I share my girl with you, and you still say things like that. Where do you hide all that audacity in such a small stature, huh?”
“Oh, for the love of- will you two shut up?” you groan. Both men mumble apologies and shift closer to envelope you in their warmth which you happily accept. “It’s imperative I get my postcoital beauty sleep since you two will clearly need more team building sessions.”
“You wanna do this again?” Danny asks, quirking an eyebrow at Steve who shrugs as he awaits your answer.
“Of course,” you mumble through a yawn, already dozing off. “I’m sure dream Danny will be visiting again for inspiration sometime soon.”

Promises
A/N: I’m back….again, hopefully for good this time. I’m working on a few more one shots and there may or may not be a couple series in the making. I also wanted to thank @kati-1997 for all the amazing ideas and help she gives (most of my writing is inspired by her ideas or at least incorporate her ideas).
I sigh as I finish up the autopsy as Max walks in. “Is everything okay Dr. Y/L/N?” I hum and look at him, “What? Yeah, yeah I’m okay. Why do you ask?” He tilts his head as he throws his gloves into the trash can, “It’s just today you’ve seemed quite perturbed and slightly irritable at times.”
I sigh again as I set my clipboard on my desk, “I’m sorry Max I didn’t mean to seem rude. It’s just.” I sigh as I sink into my chair and run a hand down my face, “Oh Max I’m sorry I don’t want to dump my burdens onto you.” He pushes his glasses up his nose and protests, “It’s hardly a burden, I consider you a close friend and I would like to help if I can.” I brush some hair away from my face and lean forward in my chair, “Its just, this morning I got into a fight with my boyfriend and I said some things, mean and nasty things, that aren’t true and I don’t know why I said them and now I don’t know what to do.”
Max leans against my desk before nodding, “I did not know you were seeing someone but it appears to me that you simply have to apologize.” I shake my head and groan, “You don’t get it, I can’t just apologize. He-, we-, it’s just, god Max it’s not that simple. What if he calls it off even after I apologize?” Max looks at me with serious eyes before asking, “Do you love him?” My eyes widen and I nod, “Yes! Of course I love him.”
Max nods as if he already knew the answer, “Then you at least owe him an apology, even if he does end it if you truly love him you need to apologize.” I nod knowing he’s right before jumping as a familiar voice cuts in, “Apologizing is definitely something that you should do, especially if you mean it. Speaking from personal experience a little remorse goes a long way.”
I spin around to meet the ocean blue eyes that I had watched break from my words just this morning. I lick my lips and nod, “I am sorry, truly and genuinely sorry. I never meant the things I said and I don’t know why I did it but I regret doing it.” I watch a smile threaten to give away his cover before he nods, “Just tell him that and I think you’ll be okay.” A small smile graces my face and I nod, “I will, I promise I’ll find a way to make it up to him too.” Steve nods before him and Danny look at Max, “Alright Max, what was it you called about?”
Once Max was done telling them the autopsy report on their latest victim they bid their goodbyes and start leaving. I bite my lip trying to decide what to do when I take off down the hall after them. When I get close to them I call out, “Commander McGarrett! Can-can I borrow you for a second?” He spins around to look at me before hesitantly nodding, “Yeah, here we’ll go in here so we have privacy, unless you don’t mind Danny hearing anything you say.” I know the silent question he’s asking with those words, is it about our relationship or about something else?
I point towards an empty room, “Privacy, please.” He nods leading us to the door before turning back to Danny, “I’ll be out in a second.” I see Danny’s concerned face before he nods, “Yeah, it’s fine I’ll wait here.”
When we get in the room and the door’s closed I grab Steve’s cheeks as tears threaten to spill down mine, “I’m sorry, I’m so so sorry! I didn’t mean what I said, if I had a problem with you putting your life on the line I shouldn’t have ever went out with you. I don’t have a problem with it, well, I mean I do because I can’t imagine my life without you, but I’ve come to terms with it. I don’t know what got into me this morning but, i-if you feel that you need to go to North Korea, go. I just have this feeling that it’s a bad idea and I know that you’re a SEAL I know you’ve done stuff like this before but you’d be dealing with Wofat, and he wants to kill you. It’s just, I don’t know how to explain it. I guess, I guess I’m just scared.”
I sniffle as I watch Steve’s face soften before he cups my cheeks and wipes the tears that I didn’t even notice had fallen, “I know you’re scared, I see it every day, even before we got together you were always scared for the team. I promise you, I’ll be okay, I’ll come home to you.” I nod as I feel more tears threaten to fall as I bury my face in his neck and wrap my arms around his torso. His hands slide to hold me close and he rubs a hand up and down my back, “I’ll come home to you, I’ll always, come home to you.”
I pull back just enough to make eye contact with Steve and I nod, “S-Steve, there’s something else that makes me want you to stay.” He brushes a piece of hair from my face as his brows furrow, “What do you mean baby?” I snort at the irony of his words before sighing, “I’m pregnant Steve. At least I think I am, everything adds up and I’ve got a pregnancy test in my bathroom cabinet but I’m too scared to take it.” I step back a little more as his eyes widen and his mouth opens and closes, reminding me of a fish, “What? H-how?” I tilt my head with a small smile, “Stevie, you know how. There’s really only one way to get pregnant.”
I watch as he smiles and pulls me into him before leaving a quick kiss on my lips, “Take the test, before I go. I want to know before I leave.” I smile and nod, “Only if you’ll be there when I do it.” He nods and cups my face, “Do you have any idea how much I love you?” I blush and shrug my shoulders causing him to frown, “Y/N/N, sweetheart, light of my life, you are everything to me. I’ve thought about kids and I honestly never thought I would ever have the chance or meet the right woman but now. Fuck, now I’m standing in front of my secret girlfriend who just told me she’s pretty sure she’s pregnant and I honestly have never been happier.” My smile drops slightly as I ask, “What if I’m not?”
He runs his thumb across my bottom lip with an adorable pout on his face, “Well, if you aren’t, we have all the time in the world, there’s no need to rush. I mean no one except us knows we’re together because I’m worried Wofat will use you against me and I would never forgive myself if he hurt you, because of me. But I’d also be lying if I said a small part of me isn’t overjoyed at the thought of being a father and praying that the test says you are pregnant.”
I smile and grab the back of his head pulling him into a passionate kiss, “I’ll take lunch a little early and head home and you can meet me there before you leave. Just let me know when you’re about to leave.” He smiles his dazzling smile that swept me off my feet the first time we met before nodding, “Yes ma’am.”
When we exit the room I wipe the remainder of my tears off my cheeks as Danny looks between us confused and worried. “Steven what did you do to her?!” I chuckle a little as Steve’s eyes widen, “I didn’t do anything! We talked about what she needed to talk about and she got a little emotional she’s a woman Danny, an emotional one at that.”
I scoff at Steve, “Excuse me, did you just say all woman are emotional? Because that’s not true, my sister’s like a brick wall, in fact you’d be better off making a wall cry than her.” Steve and Danny both laugh before Steve pats Danny’s shoulder, “Alright Danno, we gotta go. See ya later Dr. Y/L/N!” I fake an annoyed growl before yelling after his retreating form, “How many times do I have to tell you?! Call me Y/N!”
The response I get in return is a sly wink and a, “Sure thing Doc.” I roll my eyes before heading back into the morgue.
————————————————-
I take a deep breath as I shakily grab the box that had been tucked away in my bathroom cabinet for a little over a week as a gentle yet firm hand rubs circles into the small of my back silently urging me on as I open the Clear Blue box and pull out the pregnancy test. As I hold the test in one hand I read the instructions. When I set the box and leaflet down I turn to Steve with anxiety bubbling in my stomach, “Are you sure about this? If I take it, and it says I am there’s no going back.”
He uses his thumbs to rub circles into my biceps before pecking my nose, “Babe, no matter what you do, whether you take the test now or not, if you’re pregnant, you’re pregnant there’s no going back.” I wet my lips as I nod, “O-okay, it says I can pee directly on the stick so uh, here we go? I guess.”
I put the cap on the test and set it on the counter before washing my hands. I dry my hands before grabbing onto Steve making sure I can see the test from where I’m resting against him, “Stevie?”
His hand continues rubbing up and down my back, “Yeah, sweetheart?” I nuzzle into the warmth of his chest before sighing, “I kind of hope it’s positive.” He places a kiss on my hair before whispering, “Me too.”
I suck in a breath as the last block fills the screen before gasping at the word on the screen. The one little world that just changed our life forever…pregnant. I turn to Steve with my mouth hanging open to see the same expression on his face before he blinks and looks at me. As soon as we make eye contact he pulls me into a hug that lifts my feet slightly off the ground, “You’re pregnant. We’re going to be parents.”
He sets me down and holds me at an arms distance with a huge smile, “You are going to be the best damn mother ever.” I blush and smile, “And I know you’ll be an amazing father.”
I grab the test off the counter and sigh, “I don’t want to throw it away. It feels like such an important thing now. Like I want to keep looking at it to make sure I’m not dreaming.” I lean into Steve as he wraps his arms around my torso and rests his head on my shoulder pressing kisses along my neck, “Keep it.” I roll my head to the side to give him more access as I choke back a moan, “What?” He chuckles as he runs his nose up my neck before nibbling on my earlobe, “Leave it in your purse or somethin’ that way when you think you’re dreaming you can whip it out and see the proof.”
I let out a laugh that quickly turns to a moan, “Whip it out? Are we talking about the pregnancy test or your dick?” He bit into the juncture of my neck causing me to release a whine, “Steve.”
He hummed before soothing the bite with his tongue. He pulls back slightly and groans when I grind into him, “Baby, I gotta go.” I growled and dig my nails into his forearms, “Steve I swear if you leave me all riled up.” He hisses slightly before chuckling, “Or what? Come on baby, tell me what you’re going to do?” I throw my head back on his shoulder and look up at him, “I’ll be mad at you.” He gasps dramatically before running his hands up my shirt, “We can’t have that now can we?”
—————————————————
I pant slightly, covered in sweat as I button my jeans up. I turn and lean against the counter as Steve zips up his pants and grabs my hairbrush and the pregnancy test off the floor that had been casualties of our escapade. He hands me the pregnancy test and kisses me on the cheek, “Here ya go momma, I do have to go now.” I bite my lip to hold back tears as I nod, “I know, just, promise you’ll be careful.” He smiles a sad smile before nodding, “I promise. I love you.” I pull him in for a kiss and when we pull away I brush his hair back, “I love you too.”
————————————————————
I glance up from my laptop on my desk when the door is thrown open and a disheveled Danny falls through it. He looks at me with wide worried eyes before asking, “Do you know where Max is?” I furrow my eyebrows and shake my head, “No, he said something about running an errand but he left like twenty minutes ago. Why?” Danny runs a hand through his hair as he anxiously paces. I jump up and grab his shoulders, “Danny! Snap out of it, you’re going to make me sick, what happened?”
He stops pacing and takes a deep breath, “It’s Steve.” I let go of Danny as if he burned me and I feel the anxiety that’s been in my stomach since he left turn into dread, “What do you mean? Danny, what’s wrong with Steve?” He sighs and shakes his head and I grab his arm and shake him slightly, “Danny! What the hell is wrong with Steve?!”
“He’s missing.” I step backwards slightly as Danny continues, “We found out that Jenna Kaye was lying to us and we’ve lost all contact with Steve. We think Jenna has been working with Wofat, which means Wofat has Steve.” I feel the blood drain from my face as I dart for the trash can. I retch as the last of my lunch leaves my body and Danny rushes towards me. “Y/N?! Are you okay?!”
At his words I fully process what he says and feel tears start to overflow no matter how hard I tried to hold them back. I try and fail to hold back a sob as I shake my head, “No, no, this isn’t happening. This can’t be happening. He promised.” Danny furrows his eyebrows before taking a step back, “What are you talking about?” My eyes search his face debating if I should tell him our secret and remember that Steve trusts him with his life, so I know he can be trusted. “We- Steve and I- we’re together. Like together together.”
Danny shakes his head confused, “What?” I wipe my tears as I run and grab my purse remembering that I took Steve’s advice and squirreled the pregnancy test in my purse. I willed the tears away as I dug through my purse before finding the little white and blue stick that I had tucked away in a pocket. I shakily hand it to Danny and watch as the confusion morphed into surprise, “You’re? And he’s?” I nod knowing what he’s trying and failing to say, “Yes, I'm pregnant and the baby is his.”
His eyes widen before his facial features soften, “How long have you two?” He trails off and I wipe the remaining tears from cheeks, “A little over a year.” His mouth drops and for a second I thought he was frozen but he snaps out of it and whisper shouts, “A year?! And neither of you said anything?!” I nod, “We were going to, and then Wofat started targeting people close to Steve and he got scared and made me promise to keep it a secret, at least until you guys caught Wofat.”
He nods following along before asking, “Are you going to tell the others?” My eyes widen and I shake my head frantically, “No! Absolutely not, I’m not going to tell anyone anything until Steve is back and we decide if we want to or not, it’s not just my life I’m considering, I’m thinking for three now because god knows Steve doesn’t do much of that.” Danny chuckles and I continue, “Danny, you have to promise me, you can’t tell anyone about this, about the pregnancy or me and Steve.” He nods but I want a verbal response, “Promise me.”
He hands me the pregnancy test before nodding, “I promise Y/N. It stays between us, but I better be the godfather.” I sniffle and nod as I put the test back in my purse, “Deal, now, I’m going with you, I want to know everything you do, he’s my boyfriend and my child’s father, I think I’ve earned that right.” He nods before gesturing me to follow, “Okay, I’ll drive.”
————————————————————
I tap my foot anxiously as the team decides what they want to do. When they finally come to a decision I breathe a sigh of relief knowing that if anyone can find Steve it’s this team (and Joe). As they’re leaving I run to grab Danny’s arm, “Promise you’ll keep me updated.” He squeezes my arm and nods, “I promise, stay here with Lori and I’ll call as soon as we touchdown.” I nod and silently thank him.
—————————————————-
I fiddle with a pen that had been laying on Steve’s desk before jumping when Lori speaks, “I wouldn’t mess with his stuff.” I spin around and nod putting his pen back where he had it, “Oh, yeah, sorry I’m a fiddler when I’m nervous.” She nods before sitting on the couch and putting her feet on the coffee table, “Mind me asking you why you’re so concerned about Steve.”
I manage to not blush before sitting in one of the chairs and turning to face Lori, “Well, we’ve known each other for over a year and he has a way of working his way into your life, even if you don’t want him to.” I narrow my eyes as she sighs wistfully, “Yeah, I understand that.” I clear my throat and stand up from the chair, “Um, I’m going to run to the bathroom really quick. Do you want anything from one of the vending machines?” She shakes her head with a small smile and I spin around on my heal and rush towards the bathroom.
It’s not surprising to know someone else likes Steve but it’s awkward when someone outwardly shows it and it fills me with jealousy knowing that Lori works with him all day everyday and I only get him a few hours every few days. I splash my face with cold water hoping to quell my nausea before pulling out my phone and smiling at the lock screen. It was a picture of Steve and I sharing a quick kiss that I had managed to get a selfie of. I tilt my head back and blink, willing the tears away knowing that if I start crying now I’m not going to stop.
Once I’ve calmed myself down I grabbed some M&M’s from the vending machine and head back to Steve’s office. When I step into the office Lori is on the phone and I rush forward, “Are they there?” She smiles and nods before pulling the phone away from her ear and putting it on speaker. I sit beside her on the couch and listen as Danny rants about the poor excuse of a helicopter they call Tangerine and that when they opened the door chickens jumped out. He continues relaying the plan before asking, “Hey, Lori, is Y/N there?” I lean forward before answering, “Yeah, Danny I’m here, you’re on speaker.”
“Can I talk to you privately for a minute?” I bite my lip and grab the phone before turning it off speaker and walking across the room, “Yeah Danny, it’s just me now.” I hear him clear his throat before he asks, “How are you holding up?” I let out a noise of discontent and he sighs, “Yeah I figured, probably still dealing with morning sickness. Has that bothered you anymore since our conversation yesterday?” I shrug as I answer, “Yes but no, mostly just nerves, that’s what yesterday was about too. It’s honestly not all that bad.”
I hear him chuckle before he seems to sense the underlying anxiety and stress because his voice gets a little quieter and worried, “Hey, Y/N, listen. I know you’re worried and I can only imagine how you must feel right now but it’s not good for you right now. Just, try and relax, drink a cup of tea or do sudoku.” I snort, “That’ll just stress me out more, I don’t have the patience for sudoku I don’t understand the fun of it either.” I can all but hear the eye roll before he sighs, “Okay but seriously babes, you have to calm down. You worrying and stressing isn’t going to change anything. Look we’re 98% sure we have a lock on his location and I will call you as soon as we get him and I have a chance. I’ll bring him home to you Y/N/N, I promise.”
I bite my lip to hold back tears as I nod, “Thank you, I’ll try and drink some tea, maybe it’ll help.” He lets out a sigh of relief as he says his goodbyes. When I hand Lori the phone she lifts an eyebrow, “What was that about?” I blush slightly before smiling sheepishly, “I’ve been a little sick lately and I threw up yesterday when Danny told me and he was just checking to make sure I was relaxing.” She nods before standing from the couch, “Here lay down, take a nap, I’ll even go get you some tea if you want.” I smile and sit on the couch as Lori leaves the office to presumably get tea.
————————————————————
I sip my eighth cup of tea as Lori and I walk to her car to go to the military airport that the team would be landing at before I groan when my phone hits the ground. Lori spins around as I bend down to pick it up and check to make sure the screen isn’t broken. “Y/N/N, that’s like the third time you’ve dropped that thing today.” I tuck my phone ‘securely’ in the waistband of my leggings again before responding to Lori, “Yeah I know, I have a love hate relationship with these leggings. They don’t have pockets so my phone is constantly falling out but they’re so comfy. Literally feels like I’m not wearing pants.” She chuckles before motioning me to continue, “Come on they should be landing soon.”
I quickly catch up as excitement pumps through my bloodstream. We got the call about thirteen hours ago that they have Steve and would be home in about thirteen hours. I lean my head against the window and close my eyes as my stomach churns. I take slow breaths before opening an eye to glance at Lori, “Do you have any gum, a mint flavor preferably?” She hums before shaking her head, “No sorry, why?” I sigh before closing my eyes again, “Helps with nausea.”
When we pull into the airport I jump out of the car before leaning on the hood waiting for the plane to come into sight. I gag slightly before taking another sip of my tea hoping it’ll calm my stomach but all it does is stir it up more. I heave as I double over and groan when all that comes out is spit since there was nothing in my stomach to come out. Lori rushes over and lays a hand on my back between my shoulder blades, “You okay?” I take a sip of my tea once my stomach has decided to calm down and nod my head, “Yeah, yeah I’m okay.” She looks at me skeptically before nodding and then pointing to the ground, “You dropped something again.” I furrow my eyebrows and look down to see my phone, on the ground, again. “For fucks sake!”
———————————————-——-
I all but shake as the plane lands and oh so slowly the team starts to exit and there he was. He seemed okay, a little beaten and bruised but other than that nothing life threatening. I go to run forward but I’m beaten to it when Lori takes off and embraces him in a hug that is far from a friendly hug. I scowl but blush when Danny comes over, “You’re girlfriendness is showing. How’s the baby SEAL?” I smile and shrug, “I guess okay, making me sick every now and then though.” He chuckles and nods, “I remember those days, Rachel was sicker than a dog for her first trimester.”
I grimace thinking about how she must have felt before purking up as Steve starts walking towards me again. Danny senses my excitement and excuses himself and goes to stand by Joe. When Steve gets about ten feet in front of me I take off running and slow down slightly when I get to him so I’m not colliding too hard into his obviously sore body. I wrap my arms around his upper torso and bury my face in his neck as tears I’ve been holding back for two days start to fall. “I was so scared, Stevie.” He pulls me close and buries his face in my hair as he rocks us slightly, “I know baby, I know. I’m so sorry. I never meant for this to happen.”
I sniffle and nod slightly as I smile, “But you still came home, just like you promised.” I feel him pull back when we hear Kono, “Oh. My. God.” I spin around to face her when I feel the blood drain from my face as I process what she’s holding…my phone. I look at Steve wide eyed and his eyes immediately widen when he realizes what my lock screen is. I scramble forward quickly before grabbing my phone from her hands and making eye contact with her silently begging her to not say anything.
She must not interpret my look or she completely ignored my silent pleas, “You two are dating?!” My mouth opens and closes looking for an answer and glancing at Steve who looks just as helpless as me. I look back at Kono and say the only thing I can think of, “It’s not what it looks like!” She crosses her arms and raises an eyebrow, “Really? And how exactly do you explain why you and boss are locking lips?” My eyes dart between everybody and notice the surprised look on everyone’s face, except Danny, even Joe looks surprised. I feel Steve’s hand on my lower back before he speaks, “Okay, you’re right, there’s really no explanation for that other than the obvious.”
This time Lori steps forward and has the decency to look guilty and slightly horrified, “So, you guys are dating?” I glance at Steve and he gives a subtle nod that says he’s okay that we tell them. I sigh before nodding, “Yes. We’ve been together for a little over a year.” Everyone gapes at us as I smile finally relieved that I can show up when he’s at work to visit and that I can show him affection without worrying if some is watching.
————————————————————
After explaining everything and why we kept it a secret Danny is driving Steve and I back to Steve’s place after I promised him I would stay with Steve and make sure he was okay…and to call if we needed anything. His words to be exact were, ‘Call me if you need anything, and I mean anything, even if you can’t find a toothpick, call me.’ I lean forward resting my head on the side of the passenger seat before grabbing Steve’s hand, “I missed you.” Before Steve can answer Danny gags, “Alright love birds no PDA in my car.” Even though Danny seems perturbed at our fingers being interlaced on the center console I can see the faint smile threatening to curl it’s way onto his lips.
I see Steve roll his eyes before holding my hand a little tighter as if he’s scared I’ll pull away. I hum slightly as Steve finally speaks, “I missed you too, baby. How are you doing?” I rub circles into the back of his hand with my thumb as I answer, “Pretty good, I get a little sick every now and then but it’s not as bad as it could be.” He nods before relaxing into the seat, “That’s good.” I nod and place a kiss to his shoulder before shifting to lean on the drivers seat but maintain a grip on Steve’s hand scared that if I let go he’ll be gone.
———————————————————
When Steve and I are curled up in his bed finally settling down to get some much needed sleep I curl myself around him and he runs a hand through my hair while placing a kiss on the palm of my hand. I glance up at him from my position knowing he wants to talk and smile as I meet clear blue eyes filled with love. “I thought about you the whole time. I remembered my promise to come home to you and it gave me the energy to keep going.” I smile and place a kiss on his chest before snuggling further into him, “I know baby, you kept your promise and I believe you will for the rest of our lives and I’m making a promise to you.” He raises an eyebrow as he glances down, “What’s that momma?” I chuckle and roll my eyes at the nickname before answering, “As long as you keep coming home to me, I promise to always be here waiting, no matter what.”
He squeezes me a little tighter, “Promise?” I push myself up on my forearm before brushing away some stray hairs that had fallen into his face as I study his features that are illuminated by the moon before leaning down and kissing him. When I pull away with my lips still brushing his I whisper, “I promise, you just keep coming home and you’ll see I’m telling the truth.”

Leaving Breadcrumbs behind Masterlist
“Hey Kono, did you find anything that needs a password?” Steve asks, after he hung up with Hawkeye.
“So far nothing. Why?“ she asks, double checking everything again, just to make sure.
“We just got a password from Hawkeye that (Y/N) left. If anything pops up, let me know.” Steve answers, as Kono nods. Steve turns around as he hears the other entering the HQ again.
“Anything new?” Steve asks them.
“No, nothing in the houses. No more clues.” Danny answers.
“Sorry, Steve.” Chin says, giving Steve a pat on the shoulder.
“Thanks. But I didn’t think there would be more.” Steve answers, giving Chin a forced smile. Before they can continue, Joe arrives and has two Navy Officers with him.
“Commander McGarrett, nice to see you alive and well.” One of the Officers says, making Steve clench his jaw.
“Yeah, well, let’s leave it at that.” Steve answers, standing straight.
“Steve, these are Lieutenant Rath and Lieutenant Wily.” Joe introduces them.
„They have reportedly been handling the case we are working on.” Joe continues, keeping it vague and giving Steve a specific look, making it clear to not give away too much information. Steve sends another look to Kono, who puts up the Screensaver on all the screens and putting the letters and everything else beneath it.
“Nice to meet you Lieutenants. We hope you can explain to us what has been going on with my fiancée, that made her shoot me in the first place.” Steve greets them with a tight smile, challenging them to lie to him. Everybody of the 5-0 team, gathered next to him, including Joe. Whereas the Lieutenants stood opposite of them.
“Commander McGarrett, we can assure you, that we didn’t know, that she would turn to such drastic measures.” Lieutenant Wily says, trying to calm the atmosphere.
“Really, then enlighten me and tell me what you did know or expect to happen?” Steve answers.
“Sorry to say this Commander, but we are not allowed to just give out this information to anyone.” Lieutenant Rath said sternly, making Joe and Steve scoff.
“We are not just anyone, are we? I am her father and he is her future husband.” Joe snaps, taking a step towards Rath, eyeing him up and down.
“Nonetheless, we are not allowed to give out classified information.” Rath responds, getting closer to Joe as well, being practically in his face.
“Oh well, if that is the case…” Steve starts as he takes step towards the Lieutenants and Joe takes a step back. “Take us to someone who can.” Steve says, both SEALs standing straight trying to intimidate the Lieutenants in front of them.
Somewhere in the jungle…
“What do you mean until yesterday?” JJ asks concerned at the phrase and your behavior.
“That what it cost me to get to you… I was engaged to Steve.” You answer, new tears flowing down your cheeks.
“What happened?” your brother asks, grabbing your shoulders and making you look at him.
“I shot him…” you answer, starting to sob and loosing the strength in you legs and falling to the floor. Thankfully not hard, as JJ catches you as much as he can with the strength that is left in him.
“…and he is dead.” You sob into his shoulders, as he puts one arm around your shoulders and grabs the back of your hand with his other hand, trying to sooth you.
“Oh, (Y/N/N).” he answers, giving you a kiss on your hair.
“I miscalculated my shot…” you hiccup, trying to gain composure. “I shot him with my eyes close, but I apparently miscalculated. I saw him clearly and I did shoot him with my closed eyes on purpose. But I practiced beforehand and never missed. And now… I killed Steve.” You sob and you brush away your tears with your sleeve.
“Are you really sure?” he asks, moving your chin up with his hand, to make you look at him.
“What do you mean?” you sniff. “That’s what Wo Fat told me and I saw Steve on the ground before I ran. I didn’t see where I hit him in that moment.”
“When I know one thing, then that you never miss. Or miscalculate your shot.” JJ answers, grabbing your head again.
„And the other thing I know is that from all people Wo Fat is not to be trusted. He might have lied, to break you.” He continues.
“You think I didn’t kill him?” you look into his eyes, your mind racing, that of course your brother is right and you can’t trust Wo Fat with anything he tells you.
“I think, that you are the best shot the Army ever had. And when I still know my sister after all these years, than yes, I think you didn’t miscalculate.” He answers, giving you a smile and pulling you into another hug. You hug him back and when you pull back, you both stand up again.
“Okay, but whatever the case. We need to think about how we can get out of here.” you say, making your brother grin.
“Now THAT is my sister talking.” He says and you grin back. With some littler glimmer of hope inside of you, you start discussing what JJ knows about the surroundings, that Wo Fat and his minions.

Christmas Surprise
A/N: @playbucky Xmas challenge
Summary: You and your boyfriend decorate a Christmas tree and have a couple of surprises
You and your boyfriend are currently decorating your guys Christmas tree. Normally his kids would be helping but Grace if off at college and Rachel took Charlie to England for Christmas.
Danny was bummed that he wouldn’t see either of the kids on Christmas, and that it wasn’t all of you guys decorating the tree. So while you guys have been decorating the house you have been trying to cheer him up.
You guys finally got done decorating everything but the tree, so you guys are going through boxes looking at stuff for the tree, that’s when you find the funniest thing that you have ever seen. It’s a photo ornament Danny at 14 or 15 wearing parachute pants and he has a Mohawk.
So you hold it up to your boyfriend who is not paying attention and say “babe how come I have never seen your parachute pants and Mohawk stage” and you are dying of laughter at that point.
Danny’s head whips around the fastest you have ever seen it whip around. He looks at the photo and says “where the hell did you find that” and he tries to grab it from but your to quick and you jump and grab your phone to take a picture. He sees what you are trying to do and says “babe don’t you dare take a picture of that” and he is trying to hold in his laughter and look upset.
You two struggle for it and at this point you are both dying of laughter but you manage to get it long enough to take a picture of it on your phone and send it to the Five-O group chat.
Danny pretends to be mad at you but you know that and made him happier than he had been all day. You guys are drinking spiked eggnog so you guys are also a bit tipsy but this is the most fun the two of have had in awhile.
After putting all the ornaments up including the one of Danny, which took a long time to convince him to let you put it on the tree, while your looking at the tree Danny comes up behind you and hugs you from behind and says “thank you for doing this with me babe I love you” You turn to him kiss him then say “of course, I love you too”
After you two just stood there hugging for a minute Danny looks at you and says “now will you do the honors of putting the star on the tree” you smile and say “I would love too”
After you put up the star Danny goes into the bedroom to get something and you are picking stuff up when you see a giant red bow in a box that has never been used, you then see your red headband you have and make a plan.
Danny walks out of the bedroom and the first thing he notices is that you’re on the floor then he sees a red bow on your head and he smiles and asks “Why is there a bow on your head?” you smile from where you are sitting next to the tree and say “because I’m your present”
He bursts out laughing and says “you are on hell of a gift to have” you smile at his sweetness and say “why thank you, you aren’t so bad yourself” he smiles and lifts you up effortlessly and kisses you.
You guys stay like that for awhile then he starts walking with you in his arms, he sets you down on the kitchen counter. He looks at you and hopes this is the right decision.
He gets down on one knee, you gasp and he starts talking “y/n McGarrett I never thought I would want to get married again but then you came into my guns blazing just like your brother only this time I fell in love instantly. You are the light at the end of my tunnel you complete me my kids love you. You are the best thing that ever happened to me y/n I love you so much will you marry me?”
Your silently crying and you’re so shocked you can’t talk so just nod your head and then finally manage to say “yes yes yes I’ll marry you. God Danny I love you so much” he kisses slips the ring on your finger and you guys are just hugging and crying happy tears and just enjoying the moment.
Then the moment is ruined when your brother walks into the house and looks at you guys in disgust and says “pda much” you and Danny look each other and at the same time you guys say “it’s our house!”
Your brother rolls his eyes then sees the ring on your finger and then looks at the two you and smirks and says “I guess you finally popped the question” you look at Danny with wide eyes and ask “he knew?” Steve rolls his eyes and says “everyone at Five-O except you knew” you look at Danny and he shrugs and says “I’ve never been good at keeping a secret” you smile and look at your brother and your now fiance and know you are blessed to have this life.

Redemption | Chapter 5
BACK IN BLACK
As they started the drive back to the house, Sam finally felt herself starting to calm down, finally compartmentalizing as she had been taught.  Her breathing under control, her heart rate slower, Sam took a deep breath and watched the beautiful scenery of the island go by.  She also started formulating a plan on what she needed to do moving forward.
Mae glanced over at her passenger.  She knew Sam was up to something in that brain of hers.  Hoping to distract her a little longer, hoping she could stop ‘crazy’ from happening the minute they stepped over the threshold, Mae pondered what she could say to catch Sam off guard.  Throw her a little.  So, she went for the jugular.
“He looked damn good,” Mae said, with a little growl in her voice.
Sam barked out a laugh that ended up in a snort, causing both women to bust out laughing.  “Yeah.  Yeah, he did,” Sam conceded, quietly.  “He definitely filled out those dress blues nicely.”
“I noticed you guys didn’t talk much,” she fished.
“Nah.  It’s okay.  I did what I came to do,” Sam replied.  The hint of sadness in her voice was different than Mae had heard the past few days.  This sadness had nothing to do with John and everything to do with Steve.  Mae had been there for the four years between the deaths of the Devereauxs and Doris McGarrett.  She had seen what an utter handful Sam and Steve had been together, but they were also so loyal to each other, always looking out for each other, always there when the other needed it.  Mae knew how heartbroken Sam had been when Steve left, when John sent him away.  To Mae, it seemed as if it was a loss Sam never truly got over.
Seeing Sam slip back into a melancholy she was scared would start to consume her, Mae went for another distraction.  “How about we stop at Kimo’s for lunch?  I think we could use the sustenance,” Mae said.
“Sure, Mae, that sounds good,” Sam responded with a small smile.
After lunch at their favorite little café, Mae suggested taking a walk along the beach, once again stalling for time to get Sam’s frame of mind straight.   “Mae, do I really look like I’m in beach walking attire?” Sam asked with a lopsided grin, gesturing to the rather warm dress uniform she was still wearing.  Mae acquiesced.
“Ah, you’re right.  Sorry.  I imagine you’re a little itchy and probably about to keel over from the heat stroke,” Mae joked.
“Um, yep, pretty accurate,” Sam chuckled as she looped her left arm through Mae’s right.  They made their way to the car and headed for home.
Sam once again couldn’t keep her eyes off the house next door as they passed.  She had come up with a few ideas while at lunch, in between Mae’s constant barrage of stories of old family friends.  Sam knew Mae was trying to distract her.  Sam also knew that Mae knew it wasn’t going to work but she was going to try anyway.  Just another reason Sam loved and revered her Aunt Mae.  The woman didn’t know when to quit, when to take no for an answer and she absolutely refused to give up, no matter what.  I guess that’s where I get it from, Sam thought with a smile.
Once inside the house, Sam made her way upstairs, making excuses about wanting to get changed and rest.  Mae knew better but she was also keenly aware of the fact that not one single thing she said or did was going to change Sam’s mind.  Mae just hoped she didn’t have to arrange to have bail money at the ready before the afternoon was over.
“Well sweetie, if you’re going to lie down for a bit, I think I’m going to make some tea and follow suit, if you don’t mind.  I’m sure if you can’t rest, you’ll find something…constructive to do.”
Sam snickered.  Mae Devereaux would have made a good agent.  Hmm, maybe she had been at some point, given all the traveling she did when Sam was young. I never thought of running her through any databases, Sam thought, only half-jokingly.  But, for the moment, she simply said, “I understand.  It’s been a rough morning.  Get some rest.”
Mae smiled at her and went into the kitchen, shaking her head and sighing.
Sam climbed the stairs to her room and peeled off the blazing hot uniform.  Pulling her hair out of the tight, headache-inducing French twist, she put it back into a ponytail.  After throwing on a black ensemble of a t-shirt and a pair of jeans, she changed into her favorite pair of matching boots.  Back in black, Sam thought as she looked in the mirror.  After running an inventory of what she needed through her head, she changed her mind and stripped off the jeans for a more practical pair of cargo pants.  She loaded them up with her lock picks, phone for photos, a small flashlight, and she grabbed her badge just to be safe.  Sliding her Glock into the back of her waistband, pulling her t-shirt over the outline of the gun, she waited until she heard Mae close her door before she left her own room.  Sam quietly went downstairs and walked into the oversized pantry, pulling out a few pairs of gloves.  Mae loved to cook and ate her steak as bloody as the next guy, but she was completely grossed out by actually having to touch raw meat.  Sam said a silent thanks that she always had a bulk supply of food grade, nitrile gloves stashed away.  They were nearly identical to the black latex gloves she had used at crime scenes over the years.
Sam walked out the back French doors, making a beeline for the edge of the fence that separated the Devereaux property from the McGarrett’s.  Sam stuck her head around and made sure the yard was empty and quietly made her way along the fence line, ducking under the police tape on the lanai and knelt at the back door, pulling on the gloves.  She made quick work of picking the lock, silently stepping into the home she knew like the back of her hand.  After all, she had basically grown up in this house, spending just as much time there as her own.
Taking a deep breath, Sam advanced into the den.  A sob stuck in her throat as she stood in the space where John, the man who had saved her life, had lost his in one of the ugliest, most violent of ways.  She felt cold standing there, as if with his death, the warmth that had always wrapped itself around her had died, too.  What had once been her safe space, now, wasn’t.  Victor Hesse took that away.  It was no more evident than the moment Sam’s eyes settled on the wall.  Like a punch to the gut, a wave of nausea swept over Sam as she stared at the blood.  John’s blood.  Before any further invasive thoughts sprung to mind, she was spared by a noise coming from the garage.  Like a flip of a switch, Sam was back in complete control of her faculties.  She yanked off her gloves, stuffed them in her pocket and grabbed her Glock out of her waistband.
Sam quietly released the safety on the gun and stealthily made her way to the garage door.  Listening carefully, it sounded as though whoever was in the garage was around the Marquis.  She heard the rustle of the car cover being removed.  Man, John loved that car.  She had spent hours with him in the garage after Munich.  John had dragged her into the project, believing that somehow, some way, it would help Sam’s healing begin.  And as usual, John had been right.  They continued to work on the car when Sam would come home for holidays or vacations from LA, hoping they would be able to take it out at some point.
Shaking the newest flood of memories from her mind to focus on the intruder on the other side of the door, Sam carefully turned the knob.  Praying the door wouldn’t squeak and give away the element of surprise, she slowly swept her eyes over the space.  While the afternoon sunlight poured through the small window on the opposite wall, the garage was still dimly lit.  It took a second for her eyes to focus and once they did, she located the figure of a man crouching down by the work bench. He had his back to her.  Moving in on the target, she was taken by surprise when he swung around, grabbed her and in one swift move, pinned her face first against the Marquis.  Sam countered just as fast and reversed the pin, sticking the muzzle of her gun between the intruder’s eyes before recognition set in.
“Steve! You ass!”  Sam growled.
The surprise was evident on Steve’s face.  But then, for a second, it looked as though…he was having fun.  And sure enough, he gave her his best Cheshire cat grin.
“Good way to get yourself shot, you idiot,” Sam said haughtily as she placed her gun back in her waistband.
“Um, this is my father’s house, so a good way to get yourself shot,” Steve said as he showed her the gun in his hand.  “How the hell did you get in here?”
Sam bit the corner of her lip, as she always did when she got caught with her hand in the proverbial cookie jar.  Pondering how he would react, she just stuck her right hand into her pocket and held up her lock picks.  Steve’s eyebrow shot up.  Sam rolled her eyes.  “As I was planning on technically breaking and entering an active crime scene, I figured why implicate Mae by asking for her keys.”  Steve looked at her strangely for a brief instant when she said Mae had keys to his father’s house.  Then the SEAL mask was back in place.
The pair just stared at each other for a minute.  It wasn’t awkward, as Sam predicted it would be.  More, bittersweet, she thought.  Sam’s gaze softened and without thinking, grabbed the front of Steve’s shirt and pulled him into a hug, wrapping her arms around his neck.  She was slightly surprised when, without hesitation, Steve wrapped his muscular arms around her torso and hugged her back.  Tightly.
“I’m so sorry.”  Sam whispered, stroking the back of his head.
“Me too.”
They held on for another moment before breaking the embrace, but remaining in each other’s personal space.  They just looked at each other for another moment before Sam broke the silence and said, “We need to talk.”
“I know it’s been a long time, and with the way we left things…I wanted to reach out, Sam, really I did.  It’s just…” Steve struggled to find the right words.
“Steve,” she interrupted, placing her fingers on his lips.  It was an innocent gesture that turned into an intimate moment between them neither had been expecting.  Sam swallowed hard before removing her hand from his mouth, continuing.  “Yeah, I want to talk about that, too, but there are way more pressing matters we need to address.  First…”
“Sam, I swear to you, Mae is safe here.”  Steve knew Mae was the only family Sam had left and he would protect that with his life.  In hopes of reassuring her, he continued.  “I will personally see to it that she is watched and protected.  But I promise you, this will not touch her.”
Sam smiled sadly at Steve.  He really had no idea, did he?  Better than anyone, Sam knew he couldn’t promise that.  “So, you’re looking me in the eyes and telling me that Mae is safe?”
“Yes.”
“From Victor Hesse?”  Steve’s eyes widened slightly at Sam’s question, particularly the emphasis on Hesse’s name.  She continued, softly.  “Yeah, I know it was Victor Hesse.”  Tears threatened yet again but these were not tears of grief.  They were tears of fear, of rage.
Sam could see in his eyes that he was fighting an internal war.  What was it, she wondered as he started to speak.  “You know about Hesse?”
“Yeah, Mac, I know it was Hesse,” Sam confessed.  Steve’s reaction to her childhood nickname for him quickly transformed from playful into one of surprise and something she didn’t quite recognize.  Perhaps it was fear.
“And Anton?” Steve cautiously asked.  “You know…”
“That he’s burning in the deepest layers of hell?  Yeah, I know,” Sam stopped short of saying the sick bastard’s name.  And that was all it took for a tear to escape.  Before either knew it, Steve lifted his hand to cup the side of her face, catching the tear as it slid down her cheek. Before she could stop herself, Sam allowed herself to melt a little into Steve.  Falling completely would not end well, she knew.  He’s a SEAL.  He was only here for a few days to wrap up John’s affairs and then he would go back to traipsing around the world, hunting bad guys while she got on a flight back to LA where she would do the same.  Taking a deep breath, hoping to diffuse the situation before it got to awkward, she spoke, breaking the spell with a silly, flippant question.
“So, didja miss me?”  Sam chuckled, pulling back slightly.  But it was also a sad query – had he ever thought about her?  About them?  Had he missed her, had he tried to contact her, had he even wanted to?  Sam would have settled for anything at this point, which if she was honest, made her feel like a silly little girl.  So, she was taken by complete surprise at his answer.
“Every day, Sam.  Every damn day.”   The two briefly got lost in each other’s eyes.  Sam’s were full of surprise and bittersweet pain at Steve’s confession while Steve’s were filled with sorrow.  They had lost so much at such a young age, most of all they had lost each other.  He ran his thumb over her bottom lip as he leaned down…
“Hands up, don’t move!”
Within the blink of an eye, Steve, Sam and some blonde ha’ole had drawn their weapons on each other and the two men engaged in a shouting match.  Sam just stared at Steve when she realized he had flipped her around behind him, in protection mode.
“Boys.”  More yelling.
“Boys!” Sam said, slightly louder.
Enough.  “HEY!!”  Sam yelled.  Silence.  “Hmm, ooh, thought. Why don’t we all show each other our badges and clear this right up?”  The two men looked at her with a look that was a cross between ‘she’s grown a 2nd head’ and ‘that makes sense’.  Sam loudly whispered in Steve’s ear.  “And if you ever pull the soccer mom arm, slash women & children behind the big bad SEAL move on me again, I will throat punch you.”  Steve gave her a dirty look and rolled his eyes.
The two men went on to argue that neither were putting their guns down.  Sam rolled her eyes, but the truth was, she wasn’t putting her gun down either.
Finally agreeing to pull out IDs on the count of three, everyone reached for their credentials.  “One.  Two.  Three.”  The blonde was Detective Daniel Williams, Honolulu Police Department.  Aha, Sam thought.  So, this was the guy she planned on giving a hard time after his refusal to give into her request for some interagency cooperation.  Huh, she thought.  Not bad.
“Lieutenant Devereaux?  We spoke the other day, right?”  Danny asked.  Steve shot her a look, which she ignored.
“Yes, Detective Williams.  You were less than inclined to, how shall I say, throw me a bone,” Sam replied playfully.  Danny turned his attention to Steve.
“Listen, I’m really sorry about your father, but you can’t be here right now,” Danny said to Steve.  While they exchanged a few barbs, Sam studied Detective Williams.  Jersey accent.  Tie.  Too much hair product.  She smiled inwardly, thinking how fun he would be to tease and mess with.  He seemed like the kind of cop she would want on her side.  She got a good vibe from him, despite their initial interaction and the current state of affairs.  And he was pretty cute, too.  Before she could get any further with her assessment of the cute cop, Steve grabbed John’s red tool box from the work bench with one hand and Sam’s hand with his other.
“Leave the box or get arrested,” Danny said.
“All right,” Steve said.  “Gonna call for backup?”
“An ambulance,” Danny replied.  Sam had to duck her head to hide her snicker.  She was surprised when Steve put the box down on the back of the Marquis and looked at her.  She couldn’t read the look on his face.  The way he was staring into her eyes, it was as though he was trying to read her, figure out what she was thinking.  There was a brief moment that passed between them before he spoke.
“Wanna find some trouble, Red?” Steve asked her with a twinkle in his eyes and an incredibly sexy lopsided grin on his face.
“With you, Mac?  Hell yeah,” Sam instantly replied.  She couldn’t help but smirk.  They were settling into their old verbal back-and-forth in less than five minutes, despite being separated for nearly two decades.  How was that possible, Sam wondered.  Yet, it felt good.  It felt right.  It also felt like, all of a sudden, Sam knew her world was going to turn upside down.  Again.  She resumed chewing on the left corner of her lip, unsure of what direction this was going to take her.
Before Sam or Danny knew what was happening, Steve was on the phone with Governor Pat Jameson.  Looking into Sam’s eyes, Steve said, “Governor, I’ll take the job.  No, let’s just say I found some things that changed my mind.”
“Take the job?” Sam mouthed at him, which simply elicited a wink.  Next thing she knows, she’s listening to him take an oath.  What the hell is going on, she thought.  Steve didn’t break eye contact with her until he hung up the phone and once again grabbed the tool box.  And Sam’s hand.
“Now it’s my crime scene.”  And with that, Steve pulled Sam through the door.  She had the courtesy to at least shrug in empathy and throw a look of apology at Danny, who was standing there with his jaw wide open.  Sam simply stared at the back of Steve’s head as he dragged her out of his father’s house.
