DataCore Spotlights Paths to Content
DataCore Spotlights Paths to Content
As the amount of content being created by sports organizations grows, managing content for remonetization and preservation becomes increasingly more difficult. DataCore’s Alex Grossman details new options for taming the demands of the digital asset lifecycle. DataCore Software, the largest independent vendor of Software-Defined Storage solutions, is helping illuminate the opportunity to help…

ok so I found this link to a transcript that seems to contain every line of titanfall 2’s campaign and multiplayer dialogue, as well as a ton that may have been written and never included in the game. They’re extremely jumbled in order but naturally I went hunting for any extra little character moments between Cooper and BT
Highlights include: BT may be programmed to sleep, Jack “uwu I’m just a Rifleman u_u” Cooper and BT praising his later positive attitude, BT environmentalist king and Cooper calling him the “shy type.” Also, Barry.
Special shout-out to the “I thought we already said goodbye, BT/I detect joy” reunion after Cooper saves BT’s datacore, BT I Frew Up truthers vindication, and the fact that there was the possibility for BT to reassure Jack he would protect him from the same fate as the IMC scientists, but in the game they just went with BT going “It might lol ¯\_(ツ)_/¯”

Ezra's Gamble Notes Pt.1
Friends, I was not expecting the book 'Ezra's Gamble' to be such a goldmine of lore. 😭 I'm gonna need to talk about this in multiple posts.
What I've got so far:
-----SPOILERS------
First of all, the foreword: "For Alan Harris, who is a much nicer fellow than Bossk." Harris was Bossk's actor. ❤
The book takes place pre-Spark of Rebellion
We literally start the book with Ezra at the Lothal spaceport pickpocketing and finessing people out of their valuables.
He walks up to a rich-looking Chagrian wearing an Imperial pin and being followed by four blue Twi'leks and manages to sell him 5 tickets for a private booth at a gladiatorial cage match (that the Chagrian is implied to want to keep secret). Ezra finesses him out of 700 credits, then also steals his Imperial pin, his ring, wrist-comm and half his money pouch.
He winks at one of the Twi'leks and all of them giggle, one of them winks back at him. (He's 14)
He meets up with a Xexto named Ferpil Wallaway who is actually the one who taught Ezra how to steal!!
The cage-match ticket money gets sent to the commissioner, then Ferpil pays Ezra for his loot at the Pawn-shop he owns on Lothal.
Ezra gets flagged down by a red-haired friend (also 14) named Moreena Krai. Her family is leaving Lothal because Imperials condemned their farm and took it from them.
Y'all I was not ready when she said she was moving to Alderaan. 😭🥺
Moreena starts to get sad about Ezra being alone, Ezra cuts her off and says "Don't ever feel sad for me. I've always done just fine on my own, and I always will." BOY TELL THAT TO HERA. 💚
He briefly wonders if he'll ever get to steal a TIE pilot helmet. (Spoilers, he does lol)
Lore for Bossk: his ship 'Hound's Tooth' is a modified Corellian Engineering Corporation YV-666 freighter. He's employed by the Bounty Hunter Guild and his Imperial Peace-keeping Certificate number is #55946112.
Bossk was headed to Lothal searching for a Dug named Gronson "Shifty" Takkaro who was wanted for jumping bail in the Ahakista System.
Bossk picked up the bounty from the Imperial Enforcement DataCore.
Bossk's ship was scanned by the Imperial Spaceport and the official talking to him immediately transferred his call to ISB HQ. (He was on hold for 30 seconds.)
ISB Lieutenant Herdringer talks to him and tries to send Stormtroopers to arrest Shifty rather than let Bossk collect.
Bossk counters saying Herdringer would be interfering with the authorized acquisition of a government bounty. Herdringer realizes that would be bad for him.
Herdringer actually wants Bossk to not use firepower as Shifty is in a civilian sector. Bossk says okay, but still brings his Mortar gun. Bossk gets escorted to the spaceport by TIE fighters which Bossk thinks is WAY too conspicuous.
This random academy propaganda played on a speaker at the spaceport though: "You too can be a part of the Imperial family! Don't just dream about applying for the Academy, make it come true! You can find a career in space: Exploration, Starfleet, or Merchant Service. Choose from Navigation, Engineering, Space Medicine, Contact/Liason, and more! If you have the right stuff to take on the universe, and standardized examination scores that meet the requirements, dispatch your application to the Academy Screening Office, care of the Commandant (Aresko), and join the ranks of the proud!" ---(I wonder how Kallus felt about hearing that kind of stuff, I'm assuming his office was soundproofed, but he did still technically work in the same building as the school, and seemed used to having things delivered to him by cadets, im sure he heard it occasionally.)
Ezra knew what a Trandoshan was on sight. He tried sneaking up on Bossk's ship, but Bossk snuck up on him first.
Bossk appeared to be avoiding his stormtrooper escort and asked Ezra (who actually gave his real name!) Where the tavern he was looking for was.
He's very suspicious of Ezra and warns him against snooping in his ship and notices his weapon right away. "An energy slinghot. Cute."
Ezra tries to finagle 100 credits out of Bossk for information. Bossk says he doesn't have time to haggle and will give him 1000 credits for help. Ezra demands 500 up front and Bossk pays him. He also politely gives Ezra his name.
He only refers to Ezra as "Shorty" and insists that "to you, its MR. Bossk" lol.

Will continue to take notes, this is fun!!

Quick Quote:
“Who reprogrammed you to serve me?”
“Explanation:  A Hollis unit designated as C2-N2.  He was the steward of your ship,” HK said, but he made an inarticulate noise as Eva came to her feet.
“C2.  You saw C2.  He programmed you?”  Eva felt a flurry of wings inside her, like birds that were both startled and delighted by the appearance of bread crumbs.  …but excitement on the inside did not translate to stability on the outside..
HK had to grab her by both arms to cease her wobbling on her feet.  “Concern: Captain, your blood pressure is failing to recalibrate itself appropriately.  I suggest resuming your previous position.”
“But you saw him?  Talked to him?”  Eva even tried to give the HK droid a little shake.
At first, as he had before, he stared at her blankly.
And then…
She felt the slightest squeeze of his right hand on her left bicep, and she figured the right mirrored it (not that she felt it).  “Confirmation:  I did.  I did.  He utilized a damaged datacore of an HK-51 unit –”
“Ah ha!” Triumphantly, Eva let the dizziness force her back down, leaving HK-55 standing there, miffed.  “I’m not crazy.  You are like Huck.”
“Denial:  My personality board, affectation, and manner of speech synthesis are derivative of his coding, but C2-N2 did not make me an exact copy.  I do not have his memories, nor do I pretend at having any knowledge of you beyond the personnel files that have circulated,” HK answered her.  “Your childhood droid has not returned.”  A pause, as if calculating the odds of negative impact.  “Insistence: I will not answer to the name of ‘Huck,’ as it destabilizes your biosigns.”

new england winter: very cute and picturesque until you actually have to live here
listening
psycada by abstract, the opening track off the album hiking lung. a brief instrumental that sounds like a hazy-cicada-shimmer summer. it is a blisteringly hot day where you don't really have to do anything but even though you're out on the porch swing under the deck with a freezy pop it's not doing much. the vocals remind me very much of The Dandy Warhols once the rest of the album slides into more of a garage/psych rock vibe. a sort of understated fuzzy im-lying-down-right-now quality. i think these vocals would be background instead of lead in a more energetic track.
the album has several good tracks for the "datacore" playlist, which is full of mellow medium-paced instrumentals bc if i am alone with my thoughts while i clean addresses i will die

i have Bullet Train on hold at the library but tbqh this section is probably going to be me gloating over various crypto crashes for the forseeable future. Molly White of web3isgoinggreat.com reports on the Three Arrows Capital guys setting up a new venture to (checks notes):
Not only that [both partners currently on the run from their creditors], but the exchange plans to focus on claims trading — that is, the trading of claims held by creditors against debtors who are undergoing bankruptcy proceedings, like FTX, Celsius, BlockFi, or Mt. Gox (throwback!). The fact that 3AC was a major catalyst in kicking off the string of bankruptcies we saw throughout 2022 was not lost on observers, with Nic Carter of the Castle Island venture capital firm commenting that the endeavor "is akin to arsonists returning to the scene of the crime and offering to charge their victims for buckets of water".
mwah. very much glass houses since castle island is also on the verge of going under due to its almost total focus on blockchain infrastructure but GOD. what a sentence.
unpaywalled bloomberg article on the wayback machine here.
this is some of the dumbest fucking bullshit ive ever read and im so fucking happy i no longer have to care about this at a professional level.

this is the glass onion of action movies. now i do like a perfect little puzzlebox of a movie made by people who really love movies, but this flavor of film is so fuckin smug about itself. this movie wants you to know it took AP Lit. this movie is a long variation of the whedon effect/"well THAT happened!” effect, where characters react to payoffs with the barest and briefest of setups an hour before in the movie.
the thing that made me have a good time is this movie was directed by the guy who directed Atomic Blonde, one of my top ten movies and one of the best action movies of the last decade. LOVE an ensemble of goons all introduced with their own setup/backstory scenes. this film is seventy percent tightly choreographed fights with improvised weapons in tight spaces.
i am a simple woman. i like a bloody, disheveled man.

alternating very fun and very unpleasant times with my big strong boy in wolfenstein: the new order. now, i am a little bit like "wow, you find the nazi prison camp level unpleasant? how shocking!" at myself. i was not really paying attention to the global rise of fascism in 2014 when this game came out bc i was busy dropping out of college and having a mental breakdown, but the nazis in shooters i have played or watched since 2014, especially call of duty: wwii, seem defanged compared to wolfenstein.
i will probably have more and more coherent things to say once i play more of this game, bc i am just about to bust out of prison at about ~9.5 hours of playtime. apparently this is the halfway point? after the first enigma code i looked up what the other ones do, decided i don't care about other game modes, and have not been trying especially hard to be a completionist about each level/unlock all the perks by doing different kills. i am talking to everyone and looking at everything and reading all the posters, and it is interesting how such a fast-paced shooter is adapting so well to me walking around and taking my sweet fucking time at whatever difficulty level is one below the recommended difficulty level.
a note on the plot-bearing moldy concrete. like yeah mold will grow on most things, including concrete, and yeah i guess the moldy concrete will kill you slower than the nazis will, but even though i love how lived in and cozy the kreisau circle hideout feels, it gives me the heebie jeebies. mold is quite bad for you. please prioritize another railing over another couch. also what the fuck math is tekla doing here??? i could not get a clearer shot even on max settings sorry

GOD i loved the london nautilus moon exhibit. yes i WOULD like to dual wield shotguns shooting nazis while running up and around a giant moon model. level perfectly tailored for me. HOWEVER! i would rather be shot in the head quickly and cleanly instead of trying to maneuver an EXPERIMENTAL HELICOPTER through a bunch of tunnels in creepy and wet conditions. being shot in the head would, again, be a much much cleaner and quicker death than any potential helicopter crash over the water. i hate planes to begin with but holy fuck helicopters no FUCKING thanks (ign screenshot)

for such a power fantasy of a game there sure are a hell of a lot of stealth sections. no stealth game is ever going to hold up to dishonored but boy did i really want these sections to feel more like dishonored.

fussing around with a f/allout: new vegas courier six/veronica/christine riff on classic noir film The Big Sleep for femslash feb. it's fun to write six even bitchier than usual
“Did you want to be the detective or the lady?” Six asked.
“Both of them were pretty cold fish.” It was very stupid to wait when she could have this immediately. Veronica flipped the covers back on her way over.
“Harsh words to throw at a woman, especially when she’s already in your bedroom.” Christine clutched at Six’s silk pajama lapels as she was tipped back up. Six’s other hand dropped to play with her dressing gown tie.
“Now, baby, a fish is–” They were never ever going to let Six live that one down.
“You know,” Six said with as much dignity as anyone groping her wife’s ass could have, “being shot in the head — twice! took all the memories of fish from my previous aquatic life as a Shi Town mermaid.”

Chapter five is here!!
"The point is, it’s all just lines of code, you know? That’s all any of us are. Just lines of code, running a program to think we’re people.”
“Greez, we need to find that datacore,” Cere says, voice low and shaking.
“Why are you doing all of this?” Merrin asks, and thanks her Sisters for the strength in her voice.
“Does there have to be a reason?”
“Everyone has a reason.”

“Listen up!” Briggs’ voice is loud. Cooper sits in the tone’s cockpit, silent, uncomfortable, but dead set on getting his titan back, no matter the cost. A MARVN finishes its diagnostic check of his temporary titan partner, and gives him a thumbs up. He doesn’t return it. “Our mission is to retrieve Vanguard titan BT-7274’s datacore, and make sure the Fold Weapon is truly inoperable so the IMC can’t try and pull what it did last time. You all know your orders.”
The briefing runs through Cooper’s head.
“Cooper, myself, the 6-4, rifleman teams S-7 and S-6 will be pushing towards where we tracked the Ark’s data signature. We do this as fast as we can, and we do this quietly. Cooper has a remake prototype of something we recovered from a previous mission that should protect him from the time distortions around the Ark and Fold Weapon fragments. The rest of us are his backline, and will be making sure no IMC get to Cooper. Cooper will be piloting a tone class titan in the meantime. Serial number XF-7104. Watch your fire out there, don’t hit him.”
An alarm sounds, warning everyone to get to their titans. They’re going in hot. Briggs looks up, and makes eye contact with Cooper through his helmet. A beat passes between them. Cooper nods shortly. Briggs speaks, turning to get to her titan.
“Standby for titanfall.”

(From @lost-consular):
I heard you could assist me in transfering my data from litany of datapads to my datacore. I can compensate you fairly for your time.
Yes, I can. I am confident in my ability to complete this task. My rate is quite high - after all, I am exceptionally minded, and I will be able to get the job done most efficiently.

“Wait,” gasped the Doctor, choking. “I may be able to help with your computer. Buy more time, save those people-”
The Leader wasn't even watching him, staring instead at the technician as it connected the datacore to the central computer.
“Can the humanoid help?” inquired the Leader, scratching a talon down the Doctor's cheek, leaving a thin red stripe in its wake.
"The computer is beyond assistance. But the Prize was designed to download the information, bypassing the maenus chips, enabling-”
The Leader's voice broke over the technician's like a rock fall. “I believe we can dispense with your services, Doctor,” it announced, squeezing harder at the Time Lord's throat.

I feel like I have to discuss this before I forget? but I don't count name of the doctor as canon for my portrayal for three reasons. 1. Yes River would end up hating a lot of aspects of the library. The entire situation is bittersweet for her. I give her a time frame of 300 years in the datacore too & no one would wanna be stuck in a computer for that amount of time. But she would rather die again than to admit that to the Doctor's face. 2. The end of her appearance in that episode implies that she just fades away and for obvious reasons, that contradicts the post library verse. The other option is that she fades back INTO the library and I don't really like that either? 3. Doctor Moon is the Doctor. and if he is then lets be real she would NOT be over there crying to 11 about being left like a book on the shelf. What book, what shelf? Colin S.almon is her husband now. ( Listen I want you all to know I was so against this idea when C initially mentioned that M.offat and & R.TD have both stated this, but I have been won over. I'm cured. )
But all of this does not mean I do not acknowledge the episode as a whole. Clara still goes into the Doctor's timestream, ( unless this doesn't happen in your canon, we'll work out something else ) River's still there at the conference call, Clara can still see her bc they're psychically linked but the Doctor cannot.

It’s not reaching to read strong ass themes about autonomy and personhood into titanfall’s 5 hour campaign, and even if it were reaching I would still be having just as much fun jamming all my favourite themes into its gears. The neural link alone is ripe fodder. What does it mean to bond mentally to a synthetic consciousness, let alone one that is programmed to the point of destruction to protect you. To be kept inside its body but to have control of its body transferred to you at the robot’s decision. BT says “Cooper is my pilot,” so by extension this makes BT into Cooper’s titan.
BT’s first protocol is to link to the pilot - in essence, he cannot function unless he is possessed by a human, both in the physical and metaphorical sense. They’re inside each other’s minds and bodies and yet they retain distinct selfhood. Are a titan’s protocols and programming any different from having strong guiding morals? Is the electricity that comprises the consciousness of an organic brain any more significant than the electricity that makes up a datacore? If a robot can learn its decision-making principles through a direct link with its human’s neurons, would it not follow that the robot develops a decision-making matrix that resembles human free will. What if the human in question has grown up through war and has volunteered his own body and personhood to a war for freedom. Aren’t both of their bodies used for the same purpose? Aren’t their identities the same? Their morals?
Plus the entire story is about trust. BT says it over and over, trust me, trust me. To trust something is to have confidence that it will follow through on the promises it gives, like trusting a bridge won’t collapse because you have confidence in its strength. To love someone is to accept they have free will and to help them make the best decisions for themselves, because you can’t control them. When Cooper climbs into the injection mechanism with BT he has to know the dropship rendezvous isn’t coming, he isn’t stupid, and he tells BT he “isn’t going anywhere,” aka, without him. He understands the decision BT has made, and he goes along willingly. Cooper trusts him. He accepts the presence of BT’s free will, because he can’t control what BT does immediately after this. BT overrides the pilot control of his own body, of his own volition, his own free will, because he can’t let Cooper make the wrong decision for himself, even if it was a decision Cooper was making out of love and loyalty. Ergo he loves the robot and the robot loves him
