Award season: Rotten Tomatoes wants to remind Oscar voters of 16 roles they shouldn’t forget- such as Rob’s performance as The Dauphin in #theking The Role: The brash and abusive French prince, the Dauphin. Why It’s Award-Worthy: Much was made of Robert Pattinson’s French accent when The King premiered at the Venice Film Festival, but if you get distracted by that, you may lose sight of how transformative he is in the role. Detestable and seductive, Pattinson’s Dauphin insults the stoic King Henry V (Timothée Chalamet) mercilessly. And according to Chalamet, it was so deeply insulting that he had no problem staying in character, i.e., hating him. A comedic but essential part of the narrative, the Dauphin is the (mostly) unseen but constant antagonist to every move Henry makes, and Pattinson runs away with every scene he’s in. We loved his work in The Lighthouse, but this role, campy and over-the-top in all the best of ways, is just as electrifying. “Abs two weeks a year” 😂😂😂 But it’s true, the media doesn’t really mess with Rob like that anymore. Idk if it’s just because he’s used to it now or because the whole Twilight craze has ended. // Posted @withrepost • @robertpattinsonau New Interview & Photos: Rob talks to Kyle Buchanan of NYTimes “Are you worried that by making big movies again, you may invite that scrutiny back into your life? People don’t really mess with me in the same way now that I’m older. When I was younger, the paparazzi would be crazy to me — I’d be leaving a place, and people would be screaming abuse — but I can’t imagine it going back to that. Do people really care anymore? The gossip magazines have all kind of gone away, and everyone just puts their stuff on Instagram anyway. Everyone but you. Well, I’m old and boring. And I only have abs, like, two weeks a year. David Michôd - The King (2019) A pretty loose adaptation of the three Shakespeare Henry plays, it focuses mainly on Henry V, and does a pretty good job of telling the story while kind of updating it for our times. It hard not to see parallels between Henry's invasion of France and more recent invasions in history. As you realize towards the end that much of the case for war was false and done to enrich English landowners, the parallels are pretty clear. As a film it's a pretty fine one, with a good cast, Timothée Chalamet as the titular King is young enough and talented enough for the part, particularly when compared to others who have played this, such as an already longish in the tooth Laurence Olivier in the 1940s, Robert Pattinson as the Dauphin provides much needed comic relief for what can be a sometimes ponderous film. Another highlight is Joel Edgerton's Falstaff, thinner than the usually rotund character, but played with some tragic gravitas as befits him. In the end it's an entertaining film, and being on Netflix an easily accessible one, so it's hard not to recommend it. There's a pretty excellent battle sequence, but still it can't beat what is for me the most succesful adaptation of the story, Kenneth Branagh's 1989 version, which even while keeping the original language, that this new version doesn't, manages to be supremely engaging, not an easy feat. Still, this isn't really the fairest of comparisons as there is clearly something different being done here, much more detached from the source material, so it is still worth it to watch The King. Got to see first LA screening of The King movie produced by Brad Pitt starring @tchalamet and @joeledgerton . Absolutely loved everything about this film! It seems to have been shot mostly with natural light and the epic battle scene was probably the most realistic that I have ever seen on screen. The question and answer segment at the end with the director, music composer and actors was a huge treat. Out on @netflix November 1st. #allhailtheking #timotheechalamet #joeledgerton #thekingnetflix #davidmichod #alexardenti #thekingmovie (at West Hollywood, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/B394FVIjCdf/?igshid=1wrq0x56i70yr
#MovieFact: #RobertPattinson’s #Dauphin's heavily French-accented English was intentional to better insult and disrespect #TimotheeChalamet's #KingHenry. The director casted Pattinson very early in the writing process because he needed the Dauphin to "pop out" stating: "I love how bold Rob is - I wanted him to go nuts with it. His whole purpose is to be a jerk and to just torment Hal. So I kind of needed him to be a larger-than-life jerk. He needed to be ridiculous” #TheKing (Dir. #DavidMichod, 2019) https://www.instagram.com/p/B4Z_YMEHdIl/?igshid=1gmkcqqweobv6
